You can buy the original core game anywhere from 10-20 bucks which grants 5 character slots while on the other hand 5 character slots from the gem store will cost you 50 bucks.
Character slot sales also seem to be something of a rarity.
Am I crazy, or does it seem wrong that it’s massively cheaper to buy an alt account than it is to get the same additional character slots on an existing account?
bracing for incoming hate
I’ve always found that the gem store items are overpriced, don’t get why they can’t lower the items just a bit and will make it more enjoyable for people to buy even more things…
800 Gems ==> 10 Euro
That price is almost a full month game time in other MMORPG’s.
I find that you can’t do much with 800 gems to be honest.never change a winning team or working system
I don’t know if you’ve been following GW2 news lately…but they did recently make some massive “changes” to the game.
What’s better, 1 person buys something at full price or 10 people buy something at half price? Just saying.
Not that I think that’s going to happen.
It’s not as convenient having two accounts. I have a second account and it is more of a nuisance than anything.
I agree! I’m not advocating or recommending people buy a new account for character slots, I just think 10 bucks for one character slot, which is 1/5th the price of the new expansion (standard edition) is crazy.
And at 800 gems, if you want to try currency trading that will cost you 230 gold and if you’ve got that kind of money you’ve probably sunk a lot of time and money into the game in the first place.
I remember people dismissing gold/gem inflation as not being a thing in 2013. Uh…yeah. Anybody here got a time machine?
All in all, I suppose it’s moot to complain about since with the influx of F2P players it’s certainly not going to get any better. In fact, probably the reverse.
But I sincerely think Anet should consider lowering the price, or at least making character slot sales more common.

I’ve heard some players complain because Anet increasing drop rates on certain items cut into their precious profits and instead of making like 1001g they only made like 1000g. How dare anyone else have a 0.1% chance of getting anything good!
But seriously, GW2 isn’t one of those “me, me, me, me, me!” type MMOs.
And yes to the previous posters, there is no such thing as too much loot. And if you think there is you can always just vendor it or MF it if you’re feeling lucky.
This unit is now designated Herotron!
Happiness Mode…engaged!

I just told him to keep it. I’m not waiting a year for him to send me 10 silver at a time or whatever the stupid cap is.
This is not a NPE thing, it’s been in place since launch.
You can’t send more money than you have looted at a time. (Not TP, not vender, not dungeons, straight up looted a few copper at a time)
So I can’t send another player hundreds of gold unless I have gotten hundreds of gold from basic loot drops? That doesn’t sound quite right.
For the record restrictions on such a small amount does seem a bit extreme, so your rant may be justified. But the vanity guild thing might be a good solution between family members.
No vanity guild, and I’d rather not set one up. Although, if new players are allowed to transfer said amounts between guilds it makes you wonder why they can’t do the same player to player. And yes, a 10g transfer should not be some sort of indicator of a gold seller, especially when hundreds and thousands of G legitimately change hands on a daily basis.
How is this an NPE issue? That safe guard has been in since the beginning to help stop RMT. After he plays for a while he’ll be able to send the gold back.
Well, I never had any problems in the past personally. It seems to me like this is related to the NPE changes. I just came back to the game recently and while I like a lot of the changes, some of them also seem like total bullcrap.
If this isn’t NPE, then I still think it’s bullcrap. I mean…c’mon…10 gold…c’mon.
I know it’s asking too much but…just had to get this off my chest. :P
So, I loaned my son 10g for lucky envelopes. He made the money back plus some but can’t pay me back because he gets a message saying his account is restricted. He’s been playing for about a month.
What gives?
Is ANet aware of some gold sellers raking in massive amounts of money by selling a measly 10g at a time…uh…and then asking for it back?
Of course the official GW2 wiki only states that “The amount of items and coin transferable is capped for newer accounts. The cap is gradually alleviated as you progress in the game.”
A month doesn’t seem very “gradual” to me. And for some reason however the vague cap works, it’s shrouded in secrecy because why…I don’t know why. How the hell does this crap work? Is it tied to something stupid like 100% map completion or complete Personal Story Chapter X, which smart people save for later levels anyway?
I’m not loan sharking my own offspring but I would like my money back. Can anyone give me some sort of indication of when that might be able to happen assuming that’s not a bannable offense for some oddball reason?
Rabble Rabbble Rabble!
But seriously.
/rant
The actual dragonball matches seem to be bugged too. I’ve won 4 and only been credited with 2? Great stuff.
The firecrackers are still bugged. I did all five in the WvW Citadel, but the game only registered four of them for the achievement, so I had to find another one in Divinity’s Reach.
Also, they are crackers but make no sound.
Same thing happened to me. No credit for the 5th firecracker I set off in WvW.
I was gonna go storm one of the other citadels but…I guess I can settle for Divinity’s Reach.
Cynical me says: I can’t wait to have the privilege of mind-numbing grinding for what I already have!
Optimistic me hopes that isn’t the case.
I think a simple 1v1 /duel option in PVE would be nice. If the other player accepted the duel then you would simply become hostile to each other until one (or both) player was downed.
Here’s pretty much all you need to know about Nexon…Combat Arms. Terribad.
Want even more bad? Counterstrike Zombies. Badbadbad.
Nexon’s games are utter crap. They’re all sub-par cookie cutter clones where 99.9% of their development budget goes towards the cash shop. It could possibly be excused if Nexon’s game weren’t complete trash but…they are…complete trash.
I miss the 55hp monk in GW1. :P
Berserker stat’d gear is overrated IMO. It provides a slight increase in DPS for a huge lack of survivability. You’re not going to lose the dungeon or PVP simply because you have slightly less power.
Personally, I prefer to do a little mixing and matching. Valkyrie is a decent substitute for zerker with decent power and a lot more vitality.
I would pay no mind to the groups who insist you have to be level 99 with mandatory full legendary/ascended/zerker gear and a quaggan backpack to be cool enough to play with them.
Surely, someone knows the guild leader on Steam or Instagram or whatever it is you kids use these days. But seriously, just ask anyone else who is still in the guild or was in the guild, if they know how to contact him.
The reason people went to Fort Mariner are the same reasons people go to it now. Because that is where Anet decided to put almost all of the Lions Arch personal story nodes, all the guild stuff in Lions Arch, the ONLY guild commendation vendor in the game, the WvW Mist Gates, The laurel vendor and so on. Its for these reasons that people are having to hoof it to Fort Mariner now. They simply disabled the waypoint but did not remove the reasons why people went there in the first place. Its not game breaking. Its just in your face obnoxious.
Yeah, I just came back to the game after a long break and I don’t get it. Anet doesn’t want a whole bunch of people at the Fort Mariner WP? For…uh…what reason? There’s a whole bunch of people at the Mystic Dump, so why not disable that WP? Why disable any WP? Sigh.
Um…you don’t know your own email?
LFG trading is a recent development? I just came back after not playing for about a year and a half. LFG trading/advertising isn’t new or shocking. I’m not advocating it…just saying.
Nobody gets in to Blackgate! Not nobody! Not no how!
I would personally like to see some rewards for original GW1 players who didn’t purchase EOTN. My GW1 character is overloaded with swag and loot but gets nothing because no expack. Sniff.
From what I’ve heard Anet has already stated there will be no “rebirths” as you put it, e.g. changing race because…reasons.
The only RPG I know of that’s more casual than GW2 is Progress Quest:
http://progressquest.com/
I am getting a little tired of LA looking like a complete dump to be perfectly honest.
That’s a little weird. I did have some trouble last week borrowing some gold from a friend who had just started playing when GW2 was on sale. 1 gold. A gold. And it was restricted. As if goldsellers were going to sell 1 gold at a time. Holy bejeezus Anet. Stopping goldsellers is great but give us a kitten break.
This is annoying as hell. It would be nice to see an official confirmation of this.
Well, it’s a bug or the remnants of one at least. And it annoys the crap out of me. And I know I’m not the only one.
And I’m pretty sure that no one would accuse Anet of over-prioritizing fixing a TP bug that’s over 2 years old.
Technically, all they would have to do is iterate through their old TP listings or simpler yet, simply remove any buy orders that were placed on or before the bug fix date.
I’m sorry if this sounds just beyond crazy. Just a thought.
John Smith
“You shouldn’t be able to place buy orders below vendor price, that is the bug. We’re aware of it and will have a fix soon.”And they did. Those orders still there are old ones from before they stopped people from placing buy orders below vendor price.
Okay…so if that’s fixed then the problem is that Anet is leaving 2+ year old buy orders on the market. I’m pretty sure this has been suggested before but couldn’t they just remove them?
It wouldn’t be too crazy for orders to have an expiration date either.
According to this:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/bltc/Unit-price-must-be-higher-than-vender-on-lowest-buyer
The devs are aware of this problem and are fixing it. That was according to a redtag. That was posted…over two years ago. :/
There are more threads about this in the archive.
How is something requiring such a seemingly simple fix still a constant annoyance years after the fact?
By immersive story I take it you mean auto-attacking for over 2 hours straight while watching season 6 of Psych on Netflix.
The event only started 2 hours ago.
You have not been doing it for 4 hours.
I think Paul Ryan is playing this game!
Like Paul Ryan…what I meant was it “felt” like 4 hours, in the same way Paul Ryan stated his “feelings” and things he completely made up were factual statement during their campaign.
So…uh…yeah. :P
Unless you’re with a group of at least 100 players, you’re screwed. And then if you do find a group…I hope you’ve set aside the next 6 hours of your day.
Just watched a Veteran Karka kill 50 players at once. FUN!
4 hours into this event and at Stage 2 of pushing back the Ancient Karka, I can only imagine the dev team had this much fun too, playtesting their event to maximize player enjoyability.
Uh…yep. So good luck fighting hordes of champions, vets and a bazillion karkas…with a handful of people.
The zone and the loot will always be there. This is a content addition, unlike the Halloween which was a holiday event.
What you’re missing out on if you miss this weekend is a couple of one-time Dynamic Events that introduce the new zone.
Well, I suppose my outrage would then depend on exactly what that one time DE will entail. If there are unique items you can only obtain during that DE, unless they’re soulbound/account bound, it creates a massive corner for the market on those items, effectively boning everyone else.
Are you seriously going to QQ about Anet giving us more content?!
Wow…more content?!?!?!! FOR THREE WHOLE DAYS!!!!! ZOMG! O_O
But seriously…yeah…3 days? Seriously? Jesus.
I heard some rumors about 1000+ fractals to make an item, and the fractal drop is 5 per run?
Guild Wars 2 isn’t a game…it’s a 9-to-5 job. O_O
So, Lost Shores is only going to be 3 days long, ensuring half the population or possibly more completely misses it or doesn’t have enough time to finish it and the end result is the trading post gets flooded with insanely over-inflated event items.
Stuff like this with such a ridiculous time table doesn’t make the game fun. It makes it a 9-to-5 job.
I thought Mad King being scheduled as only 11 days long was bad enough, given many similar games I’ve played have holiday events that run most of the month if not the entire month but 3 days is just plain obnoxious and borderline evil and seemingly intentionally so.
So,I was bored and looking what to do and Bingo. (I will give my kid to play GW2).
We create character for 2 hours, selecting haircut, paint, eyes etc etc.
And she step into the Queensdale with her Mesmer.
She is 4 years old, never play it MMO before but she manage to learn mechanics little bit.

I was interested at first but after looking thoroughly at the specs, sorry…not enough fans.
they didn´t skyrocket, just set back to the level they had before they mistakenly increased the drop rate a lot for a few days. They have been around 4 silver most of the time pre-mistake.
They didn’t set the dye drop rate back to what it was, they actually LOWERED the —-- dye drop rate even more.
But continually nerfing drop rates and drops isn’t anything we haven’t been seeing every patch anyway is it?
As part of the heart quest: Help Historian Garrod investigate Godslost Swamp, you’re supposed to help Tortured Spirits. They’re NPC ghosts. You talk to them, ask what troubles you. Then they point, and one of those floating black blob monsters appear as they cower. You kill the monster, you get credit for helping Garrod.
The problem is I’ve encountered numerous Tortured Spirits, who will simply cower and nothing appears to “torture” them, so you can get no credit for helping them and Garrod.
Key drop rates seem like they keep being reduced. During headstart, I was actually looting more keys than chests from random mob drops.
A few days after headstart, I would get a key maybe once or twice a week. Lately, I have seen zero keys drop in the past month.
Across the board, Anet continues to decrease drops, loot and drop rates for no reason whatsoever. I predict in a few months you’ll have to grind a good 3 hours just to get one white. Dye drops will become non-existent and unidentified dye should skyrocket to 1g per.
Yes the answer to this is simple:
They accidentally increased the drop rate of Dyes with a update few weeks ago. Which substantially lowered dye prices.
So with another patch they fixed that mistake and decreased the drop rate of dyes.
Only this time, since all ANet patches so far fix something but also break something else, they lowered the drop rates far too much. And hence, dye prices have sky rocketed since not many are dropping anymore.
Yeah, but since ANet in it’s infinite wisdom “FIXED” the dye drop rates, they drop even LESS now. Great fix guys! They truly never miss an opportunity to nerf players, drops and loot for no reason whatsoever.
