I was hoping they would be able to fix PVE culling soon, but from what I read from Devs I don’t think it will happen until later in the year. Unfortunately my guild will be moving on to something else and giving GW2 time to fix the issues. The culling issue in PVE seems to just get worse for all of us. We can’t see enemies or each other most of the time. I feel like I am walking around in an empty world. I can see no one and every town is a ghost town.

If there is a small chance anyone saw me and was dying 10 feet from me and wondered why I didn’t help them… I am deeply sorry I was not able to see you to help you out. I was not ignoring you. :<

We really love gw2 but it is getting very frustrating not knowing what is killing you and not being able to see the enemies. I will check back to see if anything has been done about the culling but at this point we aren’t able to do very much in game other then chat and hang out.

I really enjoyed this game before the problems started, and had so much fun. I am not sorry I played it, and I hope this issue gets resolved as soon as possible. All the stealth creatures sharing secrets with the other mobs of the world is making for a very dangerous place. XD

I kinda wandered around looking for people wondering why I was in an overflow server when I saw no one around. It is pretty lame, and I miss seeing other people running around. It is pretty boring all around the world thinking you are totally alone. It is so bad some days that I feel like i am doing a group event by myself, and literally can’t see anyone other then my party members. I know it was not like this when the game launched. It was an amazing experience seeing people fighting all over and all the different abilities going off. I enjoyed saving people in trouble and helping others fight multiple enemies, but I can’t see anyone now. The community has vanished, and we are all ghosts in the game. If one person talks to me, I will be really surprised, because I honestly think no one can see me anymore… T_T

My guild members and I are all getting this problem as well.
The skill lag is so bad sometimes I am dead before the skill will fire. I still see the mob moving, and everyone else is moving normal, and I see them all using abilities, but my abilities take forever. I didn’t start having issues until the latest patch. Neither did anyone in my guild…

We like this game so much… but none of us will spent a cent on gems unless we know we can actually play the game we are putting money into… This happens after EVERY patch where something is messed up one way or the other. I hope they can fix this issue soon before it starts discouraging more people. Three people from my guild already gave up and left the game due to not being able to play anymore. We can’t do anything but hang out and talk in the game. Fighting anything is pretty much impossible…

The lag is so bad after the “new version” that I cannot play anymore… every time I see “new version available” I should just shut the game off and come back in a few days, because it is broken afterwards every single time… it’s getting pretty frustrating. I can’t even switch weapons now without huge delays so bad I am dead before the weapon changes.

Was fine until the new version… I’ve been playing for the past 6 hours with my guild and with no issues… ALL members in my guild report the same issues and have logged out…

Update: I got both connection errors twice in a row within a few minutes, and now it seems to be getting less frequent and lag in spikes, with skills occasionally not going off at all. Just blinks on the bar and never goes off. Isn’t happening as often as a few mins ago, and the error codes are no longer showing up so far, so I am hoping it gets back to normal soon. 9.9

I have been monitoring our bandwidth every day… it’s terrible with the satellite internet. They have a limit of 10GB per month and we can barely do anything. I have found a way of monitoring how much data usage GW2 takes per day running it on 2 computers for about 6-8 hours. It isn’t very much at all, but the data cap basically makes it where gw2 is about all I can do with it besides youtube.

They told us that we had 10gb during day hours per month, and 10gb off peak time between the hours of 2-8am. Even having said this, it is showing unlimited at night… so I am not sure what the deal is, but so far the service is pretty unsatisfying for gaming. I am completely unable to dodge things in the game, and it happens so often where I keep warping back to the position i was in a second ago after I move. It keeps getting me killed.

I am starting to think that EVDO would be the better option. I saw on the website they had unlimited bandwidth for a bit more money. I am going to get more information on EVDO.

The installation fee is large, so this choice hasn’t been easy. I appreciate all the advice. ^^

I already mentioned the ping of both providers. I don’t think running another ping test will help me decide. There isn’t even anything online that tells me which one is better. No one will give me an opinion. I have already done all the testing, I just don’t know which one is better.

I wasn’t sure which section this belongs in so I hope I guessed right. _

I live in an area that is very far outside the reach of DSL and cable internet providers. I searched everywhere and ended up settling on hughesnet. The problem with this is my ping is about 700-900 due to the fact satellite internet obviously sucks for online gaming.
I have been looking for better options and have found only one. The EVDO from the wireless tower nearby, which offers the 3G network. I have a few days left to cancel my contract with hughes before they charge me a $300 disconnection fee… -.-

I am unfamiliar with much of this so I wasn’t sure which one would be better for gw2, and make the game more enjoyable with the ping.

Hughesnet = download: 10mbps —--upload: 0.5mbps — Ping: 700-800
EVDO = download: 1mbps ---upload: .5-1mbps—- Ping: 100-300

So my question is, if it was your choice, what would be the best option to go with for gw2? It takes about 2-4 seconds for my abilities to go off right now. Any help or advice is appreciated.

This event is a disaster. I really hope there are no more one time events after this. They don’t work well at all and I doubt I will be able to do this event due to all the problems I am having…

Do you guys even have a test server? If this is a one time event, and people cannot do it because of bugs, then it’s just nothing but frustrating… PLEASE don’t do this anymore, Anet. It’s not fun, it stresses people out trying to make it on time, and it’s not fair. This event is terrible. I missed the Halloween event due to one time drizzle as well. I might as well not attend any if this is how they are all going to end up. No one I know in the game was able to do this event either.

I was trying to do the event. I got near the end and it kept crashing. I couldn’t get any credit and I was unable to do the event because of this. A few friends are also saying they are crashing often when they hadn’t before. :<

I made a post about this issue 2 hours ago. I haven’t been able to do anything. I just keep crashing while in Lion’s Arch. T_T I have been looking forward to this event all month. Pretty frustrating.

I tried about 5 times to do this event, and every single time I tried I crashed. I have been playing since launch and have had no crashing until today.

I spent a really long time, on multiple overflow servers, and did the entire event, to have the game crash, and force me onto a different server to try again, and crash again.

Is this just me or is anyone else crashing constantly today? I am unable and unwilling to keep doing the event when I can’t get credit for anything.
I am giving up for today. T_T

I haven’t had time to do the first event because of work being so busy. I just wanted to know if not participating in act one means that I am locked out of the Halloween event and cannot continue with any of them??

This would be such a huge disappointment. I was wondering if anyone knew.

Thank you, Juutas. _ I forgot to add that. Also if you think there may be an issue with the cpu I used this tool as well. I think it only works if you have an Intel, but it will tell you if there are issues with it.

I was able to solve the issue with the help of the Arenanet staff, and troubleshooting the CPU. Those of you that are experiencing similar issues I urge you to download a program called speccy, and make sure your cpu temps stay around 80 or lower. I am not positive of the exact thing that helped and I am not guaranteeing this will fix the problem, but this is what may have fixed it for me. (Note: No I did not buy new hardware other than a new fan for the cpu.)
Please try these out, and I hope it can at least help a few people.

1. Download Speccy and make sure your temps are safe. For my computer it would not run the game well until I got my cpu temps under 80 c. I am not sure why. I am not a genius with computers. _ I know my pc a lot better now though due to troubleshooting so much while trying to fix this issue.
2. Change the thermal grease on the CPU if it has been neglected. This lowered temps for me by 15 c and helped a great deal. My computer runs better overall.
3. Run a tool called Intel Processor Diagnostic tool to make sure there is no problems with the cpu.
4. I unhooked and reseated everything in my computer.
5. I followed instructions on the arenanet ticket. They had me alter some settings and it improved my fps by 10-15. If you have sent a ticket I am sure you got something similar. I’m not sure if I am allowed to post the ticket or not but I don’t want to risk it. I changed the power settings on my card to max performance as well as switched to single display performance. Setting the in game settings for refresh rate and fps to 60 also helped.

After doing all this and starting the game I am getting 40-60 fps. There is quite a few more fps drops then I had before, and I am sure that the cpu was able to get above 80c without issues before as well. Something may have changed to make the game a bit harder on the cpu, which made it slow down on my machine to an unplayable level.
This game heats up the cpu more then any other game I have ever had, and the game seems to not function or go above 20 fps unless the temps were under 80 c. Again, I do not know if this will work for any of you, but I wish all of you the best of luck with this issue.
My GPU usage was 10% before and is now at about 50-65%. Everything seems normal again, but with a few more sudden fps drops.

T_T My gpu % while running the game all the time is 10-15% and it won’t go any higher. Nor will my fps go up above a max of 20… I’ve been posting here often for a few days about it, and provided as much info as I could. I just really hope they find out what happened. The game was running great for me until a few days ago. I’ve been seeing quite a few of these threads coming up lately as well about bad fps. A few people I know have no issues but there are others unable to play at all.

I have tried that, and also tried every single resolution available. It doesn’t change anything. I also tried a different graphics card, but there is no change at all with that either. Still the same fps no matter what setting.

@Crawen – I totally agree. They always seemed to have great responses that make me feel as if they really cared about the player base. The complete lack of response on this is disheartening. ;_;

Actually I had been walking all over the area outside, and porting around to different places to see if it changed anything. I got the same results with fps everywhere else I went, in all zones. So the area didn’t make a difference. I just tested it with Vsync off and there was no change. No graphic settings changes the fps anywhere. I appreciate the suggestion though.

I would be more convinced if the game was not running perfectly since launch, and as of a few days ago (after they “fixed” billing) refuses to go over 20 fps. My computer was fine, the game ran great. I could be around tons of people and get 40-50 fps without my pc breaking a sweat. No matter what options I chose for graphics, nothing changes now. Load screens that before literally took 5 seconds to load, now take a full two minutes. I have tested every piece of hardware, and nothing changed. The GAME changed.

I’m not asking for max graphics and 90-120 fps. I just want a normal 30+ fps on any setting that doesn’t do

Whenever I try to play…. This isn’t a hardware issue for a lot of us. People with better computers then you are still having issues, and don’t have the option to upgrade any further.

It’s not a fix… you just got lucky getting a setup that didn’t have the same problems.

I do not… need to upgrade my pc to fix this. -_- I’m happy for you that the issue was actually your computer, but for many of us that isn’t the case. My friend actually went out and bought a new one despite my telling him not to… and is having the SAME problem on his new one now that the older one got. This is the game, and it started after that billing stuff they did.
I tried two different graphics cards. My husband is sitting here running it really well on a machine that is WAY under my specs. His fps is twice what mine is.

A new pc and upgrade won’t fix this for everyone. I got higher fps when the marketplace went down. It was up at 50… then it went down again to 15. The only time I don’t get below 10 fps is when that marketplace is under maint and shut off.
It is a game related issue, but I am glad at least one person having issues gets to play now.

I am getting 15 fps standing still. When I move it goes down to 1-5 fps and jumps around between those. I was playing the game flawlessly since around launch until they did the maint with the billing issue. I am starting to think that it is related to the marketplace. I heard it was down, logged in to test, got 50 fps for a few minutes, and then it died again and went back to the low fps. Changing graphic options has no effect on fps at all.

I have been trying everything I can find to fix it… I’m pretty sure this is on their end.

I have tried logging in 80 times in the last 3 days and never got above 15. When I logged in just now to test what he said I got up to 50. This stayed there for 5 minutes and then went back down to 15 again.

Check your FPS… those of you having issues. Before that thing goes back up. See if you get anything similar maybe. It’s back down to 15 again but that’s the first time in days it’s gone up for even a second.

It’s the game. All we can do is wait to see if they fix it. If you didn’t check what was required to run the game that’s a different story, but right now there is an issue with the game and low fps. There is a pretty active thread up to 20 pages now about this. Wasn’t sure if you saw it yet:

If you meet the requirements, I don’t think there is anything you can do. I have spent 2 days testing everything on my computer, reinstalling windows, and a lot more. Nothing helps.

@ZaxanRazor: Would you mind posting links or directly quoting those posts from A.net? I would like to see them, and I am sure it would help more then just mentioning you saw them somewhere. One of my main issues is that I feel like they are ignoring this, and that they do not intend to fix it. I haven’t been able to play because of 5-15 fps hitting me out of nowhere….
Sorry for the trouble, I just think it might help others as well to see they weren’t ignoring it the entire time. I have to post a public blog I promised about the game soon. I have been putting it off. I loved the game when I could play. Instead of talking about how amazing it is, I have to say I can no longer play, don’t know why, and cannot find any official word from A.net that says they even acknowledge it at all. If they said anything, it’s not easy to find.

I logged in this morning and was getting 20-30 fps. I was going to try to play it since all I really want.. is to be able to be in game without getting the 5-15 fps issues. When I turned the camera it went down to 2 fps, and then 5-15 all over again.

No improvements for me, or my guild member. In my opinion this is one of the more unprofessional, lamest things I have seen a company do since FFXIV.. to not even say anything about the hottest thread that is ALWAYS constantly on the front page, and should stay there. Many people are spreading the word about this, and my friends will not touch this game now because of my experience with this. They are afraid the same thing will happen to them, because they have better or equal machines to mine.
I will keep updating… I don’t want to ask for a refund. I want to play the game.

What I don’t get is why this suddenly started happening after flawless fps since I started playing. It was so sudden. I had literally shut the game down, and turned my pc off that night and it was 100% fine. I couldn’t sleep and got back on in the morning 4-5 hours later, and this started the second I logged in. I haven’t been able to do anything to even alter the fps at all. Literally nothing changed on my computer. I did a system restore just in case, but it didn’t help.
I can’t think of anything besides it was the latest patch. I didn’t get to see if it downloaded anything the morning I started having issues, but I normally see small patches every day. Wish I could roll back the patch and see if it changes anything.
I want it to be the pc, because at least I could work on fixing that… I’m out of options at this point.

@rebalnz – Yeah that sounds pretty close to my experience so far. I have reinstalled the game about 5 times, and tried anything I could find, including the voltage increase. With the game running it was using 10% of my GPU and not even half of my cpu was busy.
I tried everything… so all I can do is be a forum ghost and keep encouraging people to report it in case they find anything new that will help or draw the attention it needs to get fixed sometime soon. As a guild leader, my guild depends on my return. o.o

Getting a new computer most likely won’t change anything. This was totally random for me. I was playing the game so well with amazing fps. I was making appreciation videos to post thanking anet for the game. I was enjoying it a lot. It had become my favorite game, and I had been looking for one like this for the past decade with no result until now. It is completely heartbreaking for me that this suddenly out of nowhere attacked my pc. My husband is sitting next to me running the game perfectly fine on his laptop with HIGHER fps and less then half the specs my pc has.
He did report that he is getting much less then fps he used to, starting the same day mine messed up, but his is still playable.
It doesn’t seem to matter how good your computer is… and I for sure don’t need a new one. This computer has never let me down with anything. My guild members with higher end pcs are having more issues then the ones with lower specs.

I really miss the game… I will keep trying until it’s fixed prolly. I won’t find another game I enjoy as much. I just want more people with this problem to not stay quiet. We don’t need 100 different threads for the issue, but the more people come out and saya YES this is an issue I am having too… the more likely it is for them to pay attention to it.

I have found 16 people so far this is affecting that want nothing to do with any forums. I also found many older forums going back to april that showed having these same issues. I can’t tell if it’s getting worse, but it needs to at least be addressed somehow.. I am starting to see reviews and blogs online with complaints about this. >.<

Dj…. this game is only using 9-10% of my gpu. Your post isn’t helpful at all, nor is anything that the “computer savvy” people have suggested.
This is a problem. Please do not throw to the computers. Just because you are not having this problem, doesn’t make it any easier on the OBVIOUS thousands of people this problem is affecting with VERY high end machines that were playing the game like a dream literally the day before this happened…

I was thrilled to see a response to my ticket today. I am glad they are taking the time to send me something other then an auto reply. Gave me a tiny bit of hope.
Unfortunately following the directions in this new ticket did nothing to change my fps. It is still 5-15 today.
My guild members fps is also worse today. It was still barely playable yesterday with huge drops in fps all over. Today he can’t play. I wish I could help with this… it bugs me to see so many people leave the game because they can’t play.

Changing any/all the graphical options has absolutely no change in fps with this issue.

Waiting for the game to update.

Completely wiped all traces of GW2 off my pc, and I am trying another reinstall with a fresh GW2 download. I will update if I get the corrupted dats again, or if it makes any difference.

Temps are completely normal. I already spent the last 2 days troubleshooting and making sure it wasn’t the computer. The fps is like this anywhere in the game I go. I already said multiple times that changing graphics options in game does not change anything with fps. It’s exactly the same.

This is a huge change directly after the latest patch, and I don’t think I am the only one experiencing it. This is also when those corrupt files showed up in my folder.

No system crashes. No other problems. Nothing else is broken besides this game. I bought the digital download shortly after release, from the GW2 website, which is what I used to install it. I was playing error free, amazing fps for a week, have 3 chars past lvl 20. Was around so many people it was insane and got NO lag, and then one morning it just quit working and won’t run above 15 fps. It does not matter what I tried. There was no change. Max graphics, and low graphics did not change the fps of the game. There is nothing wrong with anything after a fresh windows install, and troubleshooting of everything concerning hardware. I have never had this problem with a game in the 3 years I have been gaming with it.

It really has to be the game.

Of course. I sent a ticket to them and got the auto response to try that. I repaired it 4 times. I wiped my entire pc and reinstalled everything and it still didn’t do anything.
I’m seeing more threads that seem to be about this problem showing up. I think they have to fix this or tell me how along with everyone else getting this. >.<

The game itself when you can play is amazing. 10/10 <3. I had enough time to get hooked, and get attached to my character, and then this came out of nowhere. I really miss playing and would love a solution to this problem. What is 0/10 right now is my total inability to play the game at all, and lack of response on the issue until it gets out of hand with too many people might not be the best way to deal with it… They seemed to care about the game so much. I really hope that was true, and not just an advertisement.

Still have the same problems. My guild member also reported having the same thing happen to him when he logged in today.

One of my guild members logged in a bit ago and is experiencing “lag like never seen before in this game.” He has played since around the day I started. It suddenly attacked him too. He has been troubleshooting his computer. No problems either. Other games work great. No problems until today for him. He says he is getting between 7-30 fps when it used to be much higher.

Here is the Game advisor txt document. I made sure I did a clean install of the new graphics drivers.

I also included an attachment showing the content in my GW2 Documents folder. I was curious to see if anyone else experiencing this issue has similar files. They don’t look like a good sign.

This is true… unless it stops people telling me it’s my hardware. <.< I am kinda hoping this is an issue that won’t be ignored anymore, seeing as I found it was there back in beta when I read older forums about it.
I honestly wonder if it’s going to be fixed at all at this point. Can’t help but worry. I really liked the game quite a bit.

I actually tried 100% reformatting my hard drive, and reinstalling literally everything. That did nothing to change the state of the game either.

The game doesn’t seem to be architected for keeping more than 2 cores completely busy in many situations. It does spawn a lot of threads, but as in many games one of them does much more work than the others, so the engine’s running speed is largely limited by that. The other threads’ tasks are not heavy enough to completely occupy other cores, so the CPU doesn’t look very busy overall.
And when that one thread is running slowly enough on the CPU, the GPU becomes starved for instructions and ends up idling part of the time.
I think this is what’s happening in your screenshot; your FPS is similar to what others have been reporting as well.

This man knows what he’s talking about. What we’re looking at is a waiting game – waiting for A.Net to optimize the game/load across more CPU cores, ways to offload CPU tasks to the GPU, etc. Plain and simple – it just isn’t optimized. And that’s unfortunate. Hopefully A.Net will take the time to really optimize this game soon, as MANY people (even with very high end systems) are suffering from lackluster performance right now.

I found this when I was searching. I thought it might be useful information to people that are having the problem. It seems like a reasonable explanation. I can’t even tell by looking at my GPU that I am running the game. I have to play the waiting game it seems… I hate waiting. Maybe I should start a club for people with this problem.

After hours of research I honestly think this is a problem with the game. Is your GPU being used at all?

Looking at my GPU you can’t even tell when the game is running. There are a few threads about it so far. Hoping to see more so AN will stop letting people waste time and money on upgrades when they don’t need to.

There IS something wrong with the game. I played it perfectly until yesterday morning and now I can’t get over 15 fps. Which is painfully the start of the first day of my vacation I took to play the game.. because I was enjoying it so much.
Now I have my entire vacation to spend wasting my time with this instead of enjoying it. -.-

I have sent tickets, and posted on the forums here about it. I am encouraging anyone else experiencing it to make sure AN knows they are having a problem and that this isn’t the pc. I have spoken to a few people that completely upgraded the machine with the same results. 10-20 FPS in all areas.

I will try your idea and see if it helps because I have literally tried everything else. Thank you for sharing your results.
