Hey Countless,
I played a few games against you running that build and it was def hard to kill. I am playing something similar but with Marauders ammy. Dueling/Chaos/Chrono, dampening and alacrity equal close to perma chaos armor if you do it right. Really good stuff!

Unless I know I can count on my team to cleanse me than I will take power cleanse. I see way too many mesmers in soloq take portal only to die to burning or other various aids. Soloq or duoq means that no one is really going to be looking out for me and I have to take the utilities that give me the most sustain. If I ever start up another team I will def take portal though, it really just depends on if you can count on your allies to watch out for you.
Right now shatter mesmers mostly take GS/Staff or GS and S/T. Staff is used to stay max range and torch is used for stealth disengage. Both are good, just depends on your playstyle.
I am sure the devs are going to take you seriously when you continually post neckbeardy troll posts. Say what you mean without the rest of the bs.
Have to agree with the mesmer assessment, all the mesmer streamers are usually the most entertaining!

The problem is that you never really get a 1vs1. If the person you are fighting is losing they will just call for back up and you cannot sustain in a 2v2/ 3v3 as long as other classes(esp if you are running portal). Plus, why take the fragile mesmer as a 1v1er when you have engi,ele,war that could 1v1 and skirmish with really good sustain?
The lack of restrictions on engi concern me. I am imagining a cele engi, turret engi, and some other cheese. Other than that it looks interesting.

Be hard or easy to play also is not a good argument. The balance should be done based on how the best players perform with the class not how the normal or bad player perform. No class should be broken and king of 1v1 just because it is “harder” to play.

Dude, a shatter mesmer should not really be 1v1ing. Also, with that logic then every class should be nerfed because there is at least one person for each class who is incredible at what they do. Sounds like you need to roll a mesmer and learn how to play it so you can better understand how to counter it. Or you could just roll a thief and gg.
IMO the devs should lead the class balance towards the NA meta. After 2 years people still keep running thief+mesmer. They need to make comp without this 2 classes more viable too. Either nerfing mesmer and thief or buffing everything else. This game is an mmorpg, the fights should focus more in people fighting at points and not in just run fast force numerical advantage in one point kill enemy in 5s and keep moving around. If people wanted a game with everyone 1shoting everyone killing the enemy in 3seconds we would be playing a FPS like cod or bf.
Long fights with combo field, finishers, group support and class sinergy are much for fun than watch enemys that drop in less than 10s to a thief or shatter mesmer.

The current mesmer meta has an immune every 46 seconds with the double bounce being taken now. Very few of the top mesmers run sword, but run staff for the ability to kite.
These meta builds literally have zero condi clear, and can be killed by one condi burst. The changes you suggest would destroy mesmer, as immune is one of the few defenses we have from burst, as we are usually a priority target. Also, mesmer is not considered viable on its own, but only with a thief. So that means that taking a mesmer reduces the flexibility of a team.
You may see lots of mesmers in EU, but in NA they are not in the majority at all due to the sustain specs that are preferred. If anything, fire and air sigils need to be nerfed, but please leave shatter alone.

I main mesmer, and S/D has made it hell for a good while now. Don’t get me wrong, I dislike all of you equally as a class, but acro S/D was the worst. I briefly learned thief and played it for my team, and when I did it was S/D acro. I was quite surprised to hear that instead of nerfing the main culprit (acrobatics), they were nerfing the weapon set instead.
I would not want GS or staff for mesmer to be gutted, and I am sorry your weaponset was hurt. But S/D as it used to be was plain awful ,and it felt dirty to play, and felt even worse to play against. Unfortunately the problems are still there, acro is still way too many dodges, and fire and air are still bs. Hopefully they eventually see that and make some decent changes.
But I would like to tip my fedora to good guy Marvin and agree to what he said. Basically yall are going to have to adapt! Last time I watched sizer, he still claimed S/D was op. Maybe it it still is, and you just have to play it differently?

I mean personally I think the downed state is the worst feature to have in a pvp game and I personally think it attributes to this game not being taken seriously in the esport scene, but I’ve given up on hoping it would get disabled. However at least balance it or attempt to. Right now it’s just this horrific mess where some classes are HUGELY situational and some classes are not.
Downed state (DS) has been complained about since beta. My highly unscientific guesstimation of those that PVP based on forum responses would be that roughly 25% hate it, 25% like it, and 50% don’t like it but have learned to live with it. I certainly know of PVPing friends of mine who don’t play this game because of how much downed state turned them off.
For me personally, i’m in the hate category. I would otherwise describe myself as a hardcore PVPer but I don’t PVP in this game at all (only WVW) because I hate downed state so much I can’t stand PVP in this game.
I hate how it plays, hate how it looks, hate how it breaks the flow of the action, and especially hate how it totally ruins 1v2s and heavily favours the side with the greater numbers (the opposite of what well-designed game mechanics should be aiming for).
How anyone thought that being forced into a 4-skill mini-game when you die would be more fun/engaging than the main combat is beyond me. From my perspective it’s one of the clear reasons why competitive PVP has bombed hard in this game over the past 2 years and a core reason of why it will never be good, because DS is just not fun.
IMO instead of kittening around and essentially bribing players to play PVP with handouts (and I note, PVP is still very unpopular), Anet should seriously consider making DS optional (eg: in custom arenas) and seeing how players react.
Are you serious? Every time there is a downstate thread the op is essentially told to stop. DS is amazing and an integral part of this game. Esports is not a thing because anet has not put much effort into it. The idea of being 1shot by a thief does not fun at all, please dun give anet bad ideas.

Notice Us Sempai [Sama] is looking for two experienced players. We originally were known as AyB All Our Base Belonggs to US, but have reformed with a different roster. We have participated in both ToL’s, and made it past the first round on each (made it to the third round this time around). We have many games of teamq experience and have all made it into the top 150. We are all Central Standard Time and live in the USA.
The only class we are not excepting is guardian, otherwise we are willing to try you out. We expect you to be able to have a mic and be able to communicate effectively . We are all very chill individuals, and will not tolerate raging or constant fedora tipping. You must be able to play with us at least three times a week, and be willing to experiment with comps and strategies.
I would hope you know how to play your class and know how and when to dodge. Having a good amount of teamq experience is a definite plus.

Phase retreat blinks are probably my favorite tricks. Whether its targeting the enemy and blinking forward to run away, or spots like blinking into mid on khylo. I do not think I will ever be able to drop staff because of the amazing utility that one skill has.

According to the last ToL it is a sustained damage meta. People could just bring a staff Ele and cleanse all the codis
Let me be the 1st to say and certainly not the last, IF I may say so myself, Ender you are the epitome of an excellent Shatter Mesmer worth being called a Champion Illusionist. You excel above and beyond many others, BUT after your performance in that tourney , it was sub par to say the least. You want to call yourself an illusionist, you have so many utility skills and traits at your disposal. For starters; null field, staff instead of GS, mantra of resolve, mantra of concentration, mirror of anguish trait, healing phantasms, healing mantras, time warp, feedback. But instead You chose the glassiest spec possible. Playing shatter is fun and it deals great bursts.
I know off hand not being able to just burst someone can be frustrating but that doesn’t mean your enemy is cheesing because they chose more survivability than you did. They played it smart as you didn’t. You took blink decoy and portal and moa(which when you did use your elite[which seemed out of panic], your team failed to capitalize on that skill) which is, lets face it, extremely standard. The spec you ran allows you be hard to catch while still maintaining consistent damage, but when that damage is mitigated how did that work for you?
Being a champion (anything) means soo much more than just being able to play high skill cap (blank), you could’ve easily Retraited/Respec’d between matches or even before the match itself to allow yourself more survivability. Granit the match might not be as “Fun” because you didn’t 80-0 someone…. But rewards/stakes were high and some people chose a much safer approach. AND nothing is wrong with that.
Being a tpvp player yourself, you should’ve picked up on what others were doing, playing it safe. You lacked personal condition clear for 1 and you basically brought nothing to team fights, other than boonstrips because people were a bit tankier than you had anticipated.
Oh Lawd, I agree that he should have maybe brought nullfield instead, but everything else you just said there was kitten. 20/20/0/0/30 is the only viable mesmer spec in tpvp at this time (20/20/30 is debatable). If he was not going to run glass, what would he run? Condi mesmer lololol? Shatter Mesmer burst is the only thing we can run.
Perhaps they could have coordinated burst more, who knows. But please dun act like mesmers can really run anything else.
Damage was buffed slighly thanks to runes and sigils, otherwise shatter damage is the same from pre-patch. Aka it is still lackluster.
Since I have beaten the majority of the teams on the list with pug grps I feel like the teams I dont know will win.

Mesmer is not in the best spot right now, but the top 3 teams all had a mesmer. That still says something.
From a tpvp perspective I would Say GS/Staff is the most viable for shatter mesmer. I also use Staff/GS when I roam in wvw. GS is an offensive weapon, while staff is defensive.
if you are looking for interrupts I would def take both of those.
Down state is fine, and pvp is better for it. Please dun give the devs any more bad ideas. Just go play another mmo.
I am gonna be honest and say my morale is at 0. What did we really get from this feature patch again? Nerfs. Thieves still rip me apart, I have only one condi clear (null field) at the expense of decoy. I am not sure if it would even be worth it for me to stay mesmer for the ToL. I could run engi and be far more useful. This is my favorite class, but it kind of sucks.

There is currently a bug with all NPC damage in PvP being higher than intended. We are shooting to get this fixed before the Tournament of Legends.
Any chance mesmer will get any bug fixes before the ToL? Seeing as power block was nerfed and our damage will go back to pre patch.

After the unfortunate departure of power block, and the extreme amount of condis from necros and engis, I have been struggling to figure out a reliable condi clear. Before the patch I used lyssa, and since I have dropped those for strength.

My biggest concern is the loss of ip in illusions, but the potential removal of 6 condis and not having to stand in a field sounds really nice. What do yall think? So far it has worked well. If in a future patch the condi spam became less, I would def go back to normal shatter.

How is every class hitting harder? Some skills took a specific damage nerf. Some skills got a buff. To state that every profession is generally hitting harder is extremely poorly thought out.
The question is, is there a reason some or all phantasms are hitting harder?
Have you been playing the game? The damage is pvp is insane from everyone right now. It seems it has something to do with the ferocity change. You are complaining about mesmers when a thief can take another glass to 0 with one backstab.
It is not just mesmers.
I play mesmer in pvp and I too noticed a damage increase… from everything. Since the feature patch there seems to be an increased amount of damage from everyone, and that is fine by me. kittentanky meta)
I am not sure why people keep saying it is just mesmer phantasms when every class is noticeably hitting harder.
Currently the two meta mesmer builds in tpvp are:
20/20/30
-immob on interrupt
-boon strip
-okay burst
-more sustain
-blinks
-low condi clear
-portal
20/20/0/0/30
-high burst
-high amounts of boon stripping(due too lower shatter cooldowns)
-less sustain
-blinks
-low condi clear
-portal
Both are good, but both will get shredded by thieves. It is imo that if eles are abundant with the next patch the boon strip will be very valuable.
It’s pvp centric because that is where you really get to see the difference between good and bad mesmers. PvE is essentially Phantasm mesmer with reflects. So boring :/

Yea its not looking too good for mesmers. With the lyssa nerf (which is def needed) and the vigor nerf, our survivability is really getting hit. I am really hoping the new sigils and runes make a difference, but I am pretty sure I am going to have to stick with lyssa. Though I do look forward to knights and buffed celestial.
If they would tone down thieves just a tad, I think the shatter mesmer would be in a good spot.
There is a difference between peasants and kings. Lord Helseth is the best mesmer multiverse.
We hope our bunk cleanses us, or waste mass invis for the lyssa proc. Its going to be even worse after the patch. Hopefully sigils will be able to make up for the lyssa Nerf.

With the ready up today we found that lyssa has been nerfed to removing up to 5 condis on a 45 sec cool down.
In tpvp I regularly have more than 5 condis on me if I get into a bad spot. So with that in mind, what do yall think will be the best way to remove condis while still running shatter? I am a little worried seeing as perplexity is being added, along with alot of other skills being tacked on with condis.
Any Thoughts?

lol are you serious Cynz? The only viable tpvp spec mesmer has relies on shatters, not ai. Our Phantasms do initial damage, and then we shatter them. Learn something about other classes for once.

It is a huge issue. For example, if I am dueling a thief and he stealths, my clones which I was going to use to shatter him are now gone. It even furthers the disadvantage of mesmers against thieves.
