Runes options

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Pokecenter.3548

Pokecenter.3548

I have a few questions regarding this. First of all, anyone can tell me the formula to calculate damage so i can be able to compare different stats? Like to know how much power would be equivalent to a certain amount of precision, or what would be equivalent to ‘’+X% damage’’ or similar modifiers when trying to compare them to stats, since often different runes will raise different attributes and i know that usually power>precision>ferocity but i don’t know how to compare the stats with rigor or how the damage% fits in the equation for that matter.

Scholar runes are still the main choice i assume? But what if, for whatever reason, i can’t keep my 90% hp+, which runes are then the best option, strength? What if i can’t rely on my group for might stacking, would there be a better option other than strength, maybe Ranger runes? What if they ’’fix’’ them and other than Mes and R the other professions can’t benefit from them as they used to, would Pack runes be the choice? Im assuming that other options such as Ogre and Mesmer runes, or Ruby orbs, would be slightly worse than Pack. Any other runes that can be good for a specific profession like Rangers (i heard that Guardians have that one burning rune set on their own), anything else?

I know its alot of Ifs, i just want to be aware of the possible scenarios. Im not a dungeon runner but that could change in the future and regardless i want to have my characters ‘ready’ in case i decide to do a couple runs.

I’m going out on a limb here but I suspect were going to get a two week SAB (Super Adventure Box) redux – worlds 1&2.

Is the guy who made SAB even working at ArenaNet right now? I thought he had left.

Yes, Josh Foreman made the recent Silverwastes jumping puzzle, still with ArenaNet to my knowledge.

That was made by only one guy?

Underwater combat is garbage, the camera is terrible, a lot of skills dont work and a lot work different than on land (auto aim grenades… like…seriously?).

If anything I wish underwater combat was completely removed from the story and all fractals and instances, as well as removing all underwater points that are required for map completion.

Oh boy, you probably will have alot of problems when anet gets around and decides to introduce the deep sea dragon in detail, with matching underwater content.

Underwater environment needs some polishing, but it got alot of potential in this game.

It was mentioned some time ago by Anet that they would almost certainly let other professions use some of the already avaliable weapons, rather than create new ones, tho they should create new ones at some point. So that’s it, if they keep faithfull to that thought, they are giving the first step..give them some time until they really start thinking about new weaps.

Ok, tyvm!

With this said, make sure that you pass everything you have to your bank, and stuff like armors and such, if soulbound, just salvage them and deposit the materials. Also don’t forget about bags if you got nice ones, other than the starter 20slots one, should not be soulbound.

Thanks for the replies guys. Unfortanely looks like the link that Aaron Ansari posted is broken? Didn’t work for me at least.

I really like about some anologies you guys came up (chimps, heavy and light weights and such), didn’t agree with some of those things but theres no need to argue about it, was enjoyable regardless.

Again about the size talk, did Arah a couple times and Zhaitan seems way bigger than Tequatl. Tequatl seems to be about the same size of your average big guy (height wise, maybe larger), like Wurm and Behemot. Speaking of that, is Behemot a singular being, or there are more like him? Because as World Bosses theres Wurm but also those 3more wurms in Bloodtide Coast, and then we have Dragon Minions, but aside that (from what comes to my mind right now) all seems to be creations like Inquest Golem or accidents like Fire Ele. Behemot is the only that seems like an actual creature, but i’ve never see more of his kind.

Selling dungeon paths/gambling legal?

in Players Helping Players

You can sell (or buy) dungeon paths, it will be legal as long as the run wasn’t done with exploits. If you get scammed (lets say you bought a path and then you got kicked) you can report that so that anet takes action regarding the scammer.

You don’t need to Friend them so you can whisper them back, and if they really kick you i suspect it won’t help in anyway whispering them, you will want to go directly for the report option. Certainly an issue, for those of you who run dungeons often i really advice either joining a huge guild where you could easily find people up for it (being guildies, less likely to happen) or a dungeon specific guild. Doing with ‘friends’ surely solves the problem, but not everyone has such an option. They shoulda at least increase the votes needed for a kick to 3 at least, this kind of scenario would happen less often, it would be a start.

I think it’s pretty boring to see greatswords. Sunrise, Twilight and Eternity… you see those three everywhere. I don’t really hate then, but it feels so ’’meh’’ to see them, and I actually kind of feel sorry for those who crafted them.

I don’t really hate any weapon, and i do not take a particular liking to any Legendary; but i agree with this. People complain about the pres drop rate and lack of ways of obtaining them, but that ‘unique’, ‘rare’ feeling probably already fades away rather quickly nowadays.

Re: changing weapons in combat as Pokecenter suggested, I did not get the out of combat state at any time during my initial attempt, despite running all the way back to the front door to see if I could leave the instance that way (apparently not – had to log out and log back in again to abort that attempt). Which makes the NPC comment about switching to ranged weapons very frustrating since it happens after the last point at which one could do so if one doesn’t normally carry a ranged weapon in the secondary weapon slot.

But it’s possible to run your way back to change weapons, so probably what happened was that you damaged some mob but didn’t kill him (one of the couriers for example) and in that case since they keep always the same hp your combat status was never updated and you would be permanently in battle, until at least you kill those couriers and then quietly trying to go back again to get ooc – although this is just my guess, but sometimes the combat status is annoying because it seems no matter what you do it looks it won’t go away even when you are not fighting, almost seeming buggy, and that often is one of the reasons.

I only know that you could do that for sure even if it didn’t work for you, because ironically 1hour earlier i had finished that mission :p And i should say that out of my 3attempts it was the hardest one by far -.- And the first one (lb camping Ranger) was the easiest.

Gladly if you managed to finish it you should manage to solo all the others (like 8more steps i think?) other than the final one which is supposed to be done in a full group : )

There is no “normal path” as far as I’m aware – since everything you do pretty much can give you XP, people have different ways of leveling.

Completing a zone gives you rewards (two zone level appropriate pieces of gear, a transmutation charge OR a black lion chest key and some crafting mats), which is nice. It’s also fine if you get tired of the place and go wander around the other races’ starting zones instead, sometimes a change of scenery is fun.

For dungeons you can try running story mode – it’s easier than explorable (which is what most people run for gold/tokens) but a bump above open world so you’ll start getting an idea how it goes. Just be careful to either join a group that says “all welcome” or make your own and say you’re under level 80, as some people prefer running with 80s only to make it faster. That way you’ll weed out impatient people/jerks and be able to have a nice time.

If that helps, this is what i did. Exploring the map. Wanted to do Dungeons but i didn’t feel comfortable with that idea being a newbie, so decided to get some experience on my own. Later on tried the story modes of each one and eventually at some point i went for the explorable paths, and then with the practice you end up getting used to it. Try to join to a friendly guild who can show you some of the teamwork content, it always helps

The couriers don’t spawn that quickly, and you can outdamage the amount of healing without much effort. You can also requip the weapons, you only have to go back until you get ooc. Also the npc’s hang on pretty nicely, and they get revived once you get rid off the mobs that are around the boss if im not mistaken. A ranged weapon helps to avoid getting knocked down and lure them towards you. Remember that until spawning new ones, the couriers are the same ones, so even if you fail to kill them before they deliver the items you can still damage and kill them the next time they show up. Again, having a ranged weap helps so you can keep some distance and notice them coming earlier, or just attack the boss in a position where you can keep an eye open so you can intercept them rather than waiting them to arrive near you and the boss. Cripple/immobilize skills may help you some. If you really think its hopeless find someone to do it with you, all you have to do is enter in your story instance as usual, and if the other person is in the same map he will receive a notification asking if he wants whether or not to join you. Also avoid the shockwaves because of the confusion stacks.

tl;dr the other answers.
Valkyrie is the main choice for a Thief who focus on backstabs in WvW, dagger/dagger as main weapons, because they have a trait that allows them to always have 100% critical chance while in stealth; so even without any precision (critical chance) they can still make up for it. Not sure if any other profession can use Valkyrie as the main optimal choice. Don’t know about Carrion’s either.

Keep in mind that for open world content pretty much everything works; Dungeons may be slightly different but 1single weapon won’t break the balance of your whole set, so there isn’t much to worry about. Personally i would go for the skin i like the most.

You have to soulbind them, lets say that you have a Ranger Charr lv60. You get medium tier1 and medium tier2 sets. It counts towards the achievement. Now if you get tier1 heavy and tier 1 light sets (or tier 2 for that matter) it will not count towards the achievement since a Ranger can only use medium gear.

The only way to avoid the tier 3 gear for being expensive, is having more than 1character from the same Race who happens to use another weight of gear (in this case, for example a Warrior Charr and Necro Charr) and level them high enough so you could get tier1/2 heavy/light sets for them.

False.

You need 1 of head/shoulders/chest/legs/boots armor from each tier, does not matter which weight class. For example I got the Charr fashion achievement by buying:
T1: light head, shoulders & heavy everything else
T2: medium chest and boots, heavy gloves and helm, light legs and shoulders
T3: light head, heavy everything else
all on the same (medium armor) character, so the soulbinding-to-your-char argument is null.

Really? I was told otherwise back then when i asked about this. I thought it was weird because all the items are soulbind so it shouldn’t matter your weight armor; having 1 character of each Race to get The Emperor would already be troublesome enough for some people.

Thanks for the information, i apologize for that.

Size matters

in Lore

Pokecenter.3548

or maybe not. Regardless, i have two questions. The first would be if size is related with raw strength. For example, Norn are supposed to possess superhuman strength, but how strong are they compared with other beings of equal or superior size, such as the Jotun, Kodan or Giants themselves? The only article i happened to read talking about the Norn strength, was one where they mention that one Norn could take on one Charr’s warband by himself, or something along those lines.

Now my second question is how tall are certain races compared with each other. Let’s start with the Humans as being like 6’1" on average perhaps? I know that Norn are slightly taller than Charr, but Charr would be slightly taller than Norn if they happened to stand up straight, and i read that they are about 9ft although im unsure if that would be a small, average or tall size Norn. Im referring to size as height, focusing on the big guys and ignoring that there will be a difference between the male and female gender for each of the races. What i would like to know is how do Kodan, Jotun, Giants, Lupicus and Dragons compare with the big Norn? Is there any way (mentioned in the lore, or someone who tried to calculate it with game footage) we could know that? I suppose that the order goes like that, Norn – Kodan – Jotun – Giants – Lupicus – Dragons, but what’s roughly the gap between them? Also are Dragon Lieutenants (such as The Shatterer and Claw) smaller than the Elder Dragons (and if so, how much smaller) ?

On other note, for curiosity, which race would be smaller? Maybe the Asura, Dwarves, Quaggan or Skritt? And any small or medium size race that possesses an incredible amount of strength when compared with their actual size?

Leveling in EotM is very effective if you just want levels/karma/bags, yet equally as effective in killing your leveling experience. I advise against that.
I suggest that you start 100% exploring the map, from your starting areas to midgame to Orr/Frostgorge, depending on your preferences. This is the best way to see everything the devs made for you. In my opinion, it would be a waste of money to have a world full of landscapes, activities and people and run around the same map as a part of a mindless blob instead of exploring everything

I totally agree with this.

I’ll avoid picking an answer for a little time so more people can reply (especially about my gold amount, to know if it’s enough).

If the gold amount is enough for what, full exotic set? Its more than enough. You can get one for like 6g from WvW i believe. At the same time, could happen that 40g isn’t even enough for the runes and or/sigils, again it will depend on which ones you want.

You might want to check Dulfy, you will find alot of useful information.
http://dulfy.net/2012/09/16/gw2-jumping-puzzles-guides-guild-wars-2/
Like JPs. I suggest you if you wanna try them start with Easy ones, and to make it more fun find their location (Dulfy indicates it) but don’t look at the way they are done, rather try to find it by yourself

I wouldn’t do Dungeons until like level 70, only then i would start with the story modes and then progressively get into the explorable paths and later try the most difficult paths such as Arah’s p1-4 and Twilight’s AE. That’s how you Iit, but you could perfectly start them once you get lvl high enough (tho other than the story mode it could be too hard for you). You can find all the basic information you need regarding Dungeons here: http://gw2dungeons.net/

Also a good way to check on builds and a description about how to use them, be them for Dungeons or any other part of the game, would be here:
http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki
Tho i would suggest you to try your own combinations of traits/utilities/weapons and learn by yourself what works the best and why, and what lacks in performance for some reason.

Also i wouldn’t rush to 80, just take your time and enjoy the game, before you notice it you will be 80. Save the tomes for later when you decide to lvl a new character or something : )

As for the lv80 exotic set, it isn’t expensive. Well trinkets could be, for Berserker at least. Im saying it isn’t expensive but im not really sure how much it would be and i can’t check since im not in game atm, but you could get them for karma/dungeon tokens too, or from drops. When buying them with gold, usually Berserker will be more expensive than condi (well, would depend on which kind of condi set you are looking for). As for sigils and runes it all depends which ones you want, you would need 6runes and at least 4sigils, its easy to check on tp.

Regarding if you should keep lvlng with PvP or try something else, its entirely up to you, but could be smart to try new things, get to know them decently enough, and then choose the one that you like the most, or alternate between them according with what you feel like doing that day : )

Q1: None. Although personally I’d use Boost Enchantment Powders to convert the XP and Karma boosters to Magic Find or Crafting Boosters.

Q3: Average cost of ’Forging 4 medallions is 4s 44c, whereas crests are typically sold around 3s 30c, with Crest of the Assassin as the outlier. Therefore you are more likely to lose money forging the crests. On the other hand, average price of superior runes and sigils are 1g 82s and 3g 86s, respectively, with major runes and sigils selling for approximately 4s each.

Q5: Using 4 rare Foci will guarantee a Focus, rare or exotic. Adding a second type of weapon into the mix will result in a random weapon, rare or exotic.

Can i still get Boost Enchantment Powders ? I thought they were only available temporarily because i tried a BL weapon specialist recently and didn’t find an option for those (that’s where i thought i could trade them). I will have to check again.

Oh, those average numbers are quite useful. Thanks, shoulda have done that right from the beginning.

Alright, i would have to use only focus then. By the way, if i used lv80+lv80+lv80+lv78 focus, would the outcome be a focus lv80 or lv79?

I was thinking about Necro or Warrior, certainly not Elementalist or Engineer.

Then you mentioned 1) Dungeons 2) She took a liking to Necro, Guardian and specially Mesmer.

I would say Necro is a no-go, just because they often aren’t welcome in Dungeons. They lack support. They can still be good on the other aspects of the game, but when it comes to team play in Dungeons they are the less useful profession.

Since i believe that it’s important to have fun and that people shouldn’t do something they don’t fully enjoy, i won’t recommend Warrior (who happens to be easy to play decently and good for Dungeons), let’s rather focus on the other two.

Mesmers are good for Dungeons and in certain open world activities such as Tequatl or Evolved Wurm (mega-events), more than good, they are desirable due to their reflects and secondly condi cleaning (which ironically Guardians are the other one profession that is good at this well), and then they are the best boon stripping choice and can do Time Warp, which is quite handy. There’s also Portal and Mass Invisibilty which are quite interesting tho i find them the most fun to use in WvW rather than Dungeons. Now the problem might be the learning curve. It takes sometime to master Mesmer (for Dungeons, open world content is always relatively easy), specially because they are squishy (light armor) and you have to be mindful of your illusions and play accordingly (for best dps performance).

Now there’s the Guardian. I never played one so i can’t give much insight about it, but i can tell you the following: I’m pretty confident that they are easier to master than Mesmers; they can rival the Mesmer when it comes to reflects and condition cleaning; they do lack some of the fancy skills like Portal, Time Warp, Invisibility ones or boon stripping but in Dungeons these aren’t really required and Guardian can do higher dps, survive without as much effort and will share boons with their team mates more easily.

I didn’t do Dungeons in a while, but both Mesmer and Guardian should be wanted about the same, tho back then i did see alot more people asking for Guard for certain Dungeons (which often was just due to their lack of knowledge that Mesmer could be as efficient in those instances). Let her play what she wants the most and have fun both of you : )

Some questions, just found out that i can get a booster multipack with 3different boosters (and 1 leather bag), which would allow me to save one more slot in the bank. Is there any downside if i decide to do this?

Is the chance to get a higher quality item always 20%, no matter if its gear or runes?

I got like 35×4 medallions, should i just forge them? What about runes/sigils, i have in the bank quite a few major ones, maybe 800 in total. If i was to sell them maybe i could get ~7g, not sure, but should i rather try my luck and hope that they would give me some good, expensive superior runes from the mf or it would be just a waste? Everyone seems to dislike the mf’s results.

I also have 1Queen Jena mini (got 2 for bday characters), can she be only forged with minis, and if so do they have to be of the same quality (rare)? And im assuming i could do that with it, else i would have to destroy it.

And regarding gear, i know that using rares attempting exotic as a result takes more tries, but is less expensive. But what if i want a lv80 exotic focus (i believe theres 2 or 3 of those for collections and that one of them can only be acquired from there). Do i have to use 4x lv80 focus, or i could use 1piece of another type of weapon (with 3 focus) without lowering the chances of my end result being both a focus and lv80 ?

I know there is a Sentinel Ascended amulet, and you can also get full armor and weapons, why not the backpiece? And while we’re at it, why no Rings and Accessories either?

Same reason why you don’t have some trinkets with some other stat combos. They will be added eventually. You could try and store it somewhere without picking the stats hoping it changes someday, but honestly..i would rather pick some other stat combo for the meantime.

Yeah Seal, that was my concern, the collection would surely stay but the items to complete it probably will be removed.

Unfortunately he isn’t Donari, he doesn’t play everyday. I got a thief too, i would feel bad if you had to help him and i would just sit at WvW defending towers or something xD I told him about it before, that i would give him a ride, i was just hoping that instead being now he could be higher level so he could survive easier (and possibly having 1 or 2 explored maps already on the way), that Orr environment is pretty aggressive. I did that with him in Harathi Hinterlands to get the pan for the Chef/Grawl, and right on the start of the map he was getting easily killed, in a matter of a few secs, being just ~6lvls below the zone or something, so im imagining that at his currently level he couldn’t get hit without going down. But really thanks, good to know that we still can find that kind of people around in the community =)

The gift of exploration is just something extra though. You forgot about all the individual map completion rewards.

I didn’t, i get what you talking about but im referring to final rewards only for both map and story cases. I would at least expect another extra reward similar to the one you get per map but better, maybe one rare random exotic and couple t6 mats, for example. I suppose that for those who really need those Gifts they haven’t much to complain about tho; but unless they change the way that pres are available i don’t have much use for 10Gifts of Exploration :<

Main and lesser races

Forgotten, i was thinking about ‘Naga’ as their name but i knew it was something else. The little lore i know regarding gw1 is from wiki.

Im surprised that Jotun seem to have so low of a role, when the Norn have a main one; even if they seem more primitive (ancient) from what i’ve seen from gw2 they seem to be more closer as a race (might be to their low numbers tho) compared with the Norn and i believe they have understanding about magic too? They just lack technology, but so the Norn don’t seem to be that brilliant either. I know that not everyone can have the same importance, i just find these 2 – for someone who doesn’t know much about lore like me – very similar yet we barely see Jotun even as enemies. What makes the Norn that much more eligible than the Jotun (or Kodan for that matter) to be a main race, even their background story is similar right? And they used to be a dominating race at some point, is it their lack of numbers (Norn seem to be few as well), or are their communicating skills just lacking or something else?

What about Giants, i imagine them to be very very few, but if that wasn’t the case, where would they fit, a major race, a ‘tribal’ one like Ogres and Grawl, or more on the Ettin, Harpy level?

What about Lupicus before their extinction, if they were still present (ignoring how that could affect nowadays gw events) where could they fit?

Question to might stacking

I think its exactly as you described, unless the last stacks replace the first ones (i believe its like that for conditions), in which scenario for the first case (3stacks 20secs) it would still be as you said but for the second one (3stacks 8secs) it would make it worse since it would replace those 3 initial stacks of 15secs (but given we are talking about boons, which are benefits for your character, i don’t think it would work this way).

Im not ingame to check but i believe that’s the name of the achievement you unlock after ‘killing’ the Grawl.

A buddy of mine bought the game 1month ago and is now level 41. He got the collection at 5/6 missing the JP from Cursed Shores. I read somewhere that the event will be gone by ~13th of this month, he should be 50 by then if lucky.

Can he finish the achievement at anytime now that the collection is unlocked, or he must do it until the end of the event?

Im not even sure if he would mind alot in case he couldn’t finish it, but im sure that if he gets to play this for a while he would regret it later on.

The star is per character. The title is for the account.

The title i know, since its from one achievement. Didn’t know about the star since i can’t see my own character’s star ._. or can I..? Didn’t play with the ones i have at 100% for a while; thanks for the info.

They added extra rewards to all parts of the personal story back in September. Victory or Death (the final mission) has two new items: the Hero’s Chest and Mentor’s Kit. The 10 bags of loot might be new as well, I don’t remember. (They also simplified the process for getting Pact weapons, you used to be given a token which had to be traded to a Pact Quartermaster for your weapon.)

I think it’s highly unlikely they’ll change it again so soon after that. Especially since it seems to be one of the few parts of the NPE that’s not getting constant complaints.

I have no idea about map completion. Although it already awards 2 Gifts of Exploration, a title, a star next to your name and a medal on the character select screen on top of all the individual map rewards so I’m not sure what they could add to it. They could add some loot bags I suppose but I wouldn’t call that an upgrade.

Yeah i read about it on wiki and since i only finished the story twice quite some time ago i wasn’t sure, but the rewards did seem different. I went to check because i noticed the story rewards were different, so probably the last one would be too. With this said the final reward still seems far from great and having been updated recently probably won’t be again, at least in the next year i suppose

Regarding the map completion it just feels short to receive just 2 Gifts of Exploration since i don’t use them, well i guess there’s the star to show off too..

I guess ill just finish the maps and probably hold on the story’s final mission, at least until i start and finish the season 2, and since i have 5chars it can take me a while.

You think that these will ever be revamped and be more rewarding?
I got 2characters sitting at 99% map, and 3chars one mission away from finishing the season 1 story, i was wondering if it would be smart to leave them like that hoping the rewards would get better someday, since right now they are kinda meh to me :x

Also, that yellow star you get for completing the map, is it account bound or only characters at 100% get it ?

Indeed, if only i had the gems for it.. I didn’t even know you had packs like this available, is this the first time? And to think one of those is the watchwork pick..i would snatch it for sure.

On other note, i wonder if they are about to introduce better tools in a few months, with this good of a price i can’t think of it being another way.

What is a lesser race? Is it anything other than the main races, or you have certain requirements (be it regarding their organization, prowess, accomplishments or others)? For example, Hyleks and Ogres are lesser races, but what about spiders and drakes?

And, aside from Sylvari, were all of the main races, main races during gw1 as well? Namely the Asura and Norn. And did we had any other main races back then?

Any races that were available in gw1’s lore but that we didn’t get to see in gw2? I know that there were the dwarves (tho you get to see 1) and Mursaat, some kind of snakes i believe that i don’t remember the name, but anything else?
