Yes, I think evade was always intended to trigger the 40s cd though? Not sure about blind, others need to be fixed for sure!!
So to keep our out-of-combat mobility up to scratch of a ranger or warrior, say, how about if we are not in combat, both when we start and when we finish RTL, the recharge is still going to be at 20 seconds, this would make running across large areas of the map a bit more balanced.
Any thoughts?
Now repeat the race with chill or cripple and lets see what happens!
What about all of the staff eles in wvw who are fighting with the main group, providing big water fields, and big AoE damage??
For me, when I think of a staff ele, I think of a good team player, who knows about combo fields and finishers.
When I use my staff in dungeons, I really like to go for maximum AoE damage and plenty of support options. I run 0/0/20/20/30. Air trait line focuses on glyphs(inscription and 20% faster cd), which I think are pretty handy.
Water I take the condition removal on water attune, and spells recharge 20% faster in water attune, this is so I can provide my team with water fields, which they can finish with, faster.
Arcana, elemental attunement is a great asset to you and the team! I take large AoE fields on the staff, and finally evasive arcana for the extra blast finisher, which of course you should always use in one of your combo fields!
Utility skills, I always take glyph heal, glyph of storms, arcane blast (blast finisher), elite glyph. The 3rd utility spot is situational, either a stun breaker, maybe a racial skill or conjure frost bow if the situation requires it. If none of these seem to fit then I use the glyph of lesser elementals.
For gear, I have all clerics with dolyak runes, this gives you lots of toughness, and the ability to really make your heals effective, also then power gives good enough damage, of course. Sigil on my staff I take sigil of battle, which will proc when you swap attunement. Between the sigil, traits and blast finishers in laval font can give you and your team some nice stacks of might!
So all in all, a team-oriented build, and if you probably don’t need more than one of these guys on your team, but with coordinated teams they can be really effective at stacking might and other buffs.
Well my big, bumbling norn warrior is called Brb Lost My Sword
And I saw a player called Logan Thackery once too!
So I noticed the level 0 ambient crabs counted for the shell slayer, and I thought it might be a bug considering they take next to no time to kill.
Don’t forget the burst skill. Blowing a dangerous torrent of bubbles
So I was killing Vidius Castrum in fireheart rise, and he sort of teleports around. I was quite far away from him, because you can dodge his fireballs just by waking from left to right, he teleported a few times, not too far away, but a few times he teleported right to the other end of the camp, and his health started to reset. Thankfully it only restored by about 1/4, but it did this twice meaning the kill lasted much longer than usual.
Is this intended a bug or an oversight? Anyone else had the same problem?
For me to make spvp better I wish some visual effects were toned down on abilities, (this applies to pve in large groups too, but that isn’t much of an issue for me), because half of the time I am staring at the other player and I have no clue what they are doing, this is worst ofc with asuras.
Maybe this is down to me being bad, but maybe some others agree with me.
Frost bow #5 never gets old, why not build around that?
This is all pretty good, but anyone have any images where the underdogs flatten the high-rankers?
Is it the guy who runs around and caps all the points on his own? Stays with his team? Defending points? Is it the best person? Is it the person with the best build/profession in the fight?
Note: This is just hot join stuff.
Well here is my build: http://www.gw2builds.org/create/bwe_1/elementalist#0.0-2.0.4.16.3-0.20.0.20.30-8.6.4.1.6.5.8
So spam all your fields, and roll around in them. Always put a field over eruption, and enjoy giving your friends plenty of boons. If you are really good at putting fields down maybe swap out blasting staff for something you prefer.
The blank utility slot, I can’t decide, glyph of elemental power gives you more boons than summoning a lesser elemental, because of the extra cd having the elemental out causes. Other times I slot frost bow (e.g in AC, or for long ranged fights I take arcane blast, e.g final boss in the dredge fractal) .
Downside is a lack of stunbreakers, but I get along alright.
So I am fond of playing staff ele in dungeons or fractals with my guildies. We usually end up with one guardian who is most of the time whacking the boss with his hammer, 2 rangers with longbows, a thief who likes to stay at range and me who tries to buff up the guardian because the poor guy usually ends up soaking a lot of damage, so I started taking arcane wave to blast a heal if he is getting hit too much, which has lead me to stand at a closer range too. Because we have a split in our party, I feel that the guardians hammer, and my combo field synergies are sort of wasted because they can only really buff us two, leaving the ranged classes out
My question is, do you think it is reasonable to ask them to stand closer to us, so our combos can affect the entire party, even if they do less dps at close range (longbow #1 -.-), and if it means they might take some more damage?
If yes, how should you ask? If no, are there any clever ways to buff up the whole team scattered around?
Stack toughness, and pro-actively get some might stacks and fury!
A nerf was needed to ride the lightning itself, or to ele, or to just some ele builds? This rtl nerf is hitting any build with an offhand dagger remember!
If you are going to increase the cooldown on RTL, then why was the damage on it not touched? Would this not make it more balanced?
What ^ those guys have said sums it up very well, but take into account that other people can finish in your combo fields, which is why staff is nice in group, especially an organised one.
Example, yesterday doing fractals with some guild friends, we were on team speak and were discussing this, and our guardian said: “Yes its fun playing hammer with puff around, because of all the combo fields”.. He then listed them all, so don’t think your efforts putting them up are wasted!!
Yes that option exists, but it is pants, because closing unimportant windows that you only want to open for a second with esc (e.g checking trading posts profit) is ace! But a bug report is usually a more serious thing, and something to take time over. This causes a dilemma, disable closing all windows with escape (as you suggested), or you keep the fantastic method of closing UI windows. Personally I close with escape more times than I send bug reports, so its a no-brainer for me, but if you have typed out a paragraph (with perfect speeling and grammar), and accidentally close it with escape key, its a bit of a pain-in-the-quaggans!
Stealth: pants – you can get stealth really easily as some classes, and unless people know you are there, then you are basically invulnerable.
Quickness, stability: Intelligent use of buffs/boons, good job. You can still be damaged while you have these, and its not as if you can get the as easily as stealth
invuln stomping (e.g: mistform): Depends, if it is invuln where you normally cant attack, then it is massive bs, otherwise, if it is like the warrior stance (which I forgot the name of) fantastic, and enjoy the cooldown!
Ele is a little op in pvp because you can move so far, e.g jumping off the keep in Forest of Niflhel, and ressing up in the bushes (I do this often), but in pve it kinda sucks, especially solo, because you mist form away, and then just get pecked to death, also you cant use your skills as soon as you come out of mistform, which sucks when you have a big downed penalty, mistform is just a losing battle most of the time, unless you have chums!
Vengence I find is very good on my warrior, when 100b and frenzy are on cd, but any good player can avoid that.
Ranger is really good in pve, but it is kind okittenward being licked by my ice drake, thankfully I don’t choose a spider pet because that would be really scary.
Vayne, if people are abusing it then we can just put up the cost of buying the insurance!
I was joking about the 9 copper, (though I did ask for it on the bug report), but if you get stuck on a level 80 its what? 1 or 2 silver not much, but it still sux!
Glad to hear someone agrees about the bug report window!
So I got stuck in a rock from using illusionary leap > swap (I guess my clone was attack a hylek near said rock) and I swapped into the rock. But that wasn’t the worst of it, when I went to send a bug report, I accidentally closed the bug report window twice; I was asking for a refund of 9 copper in my report because I had to use the nearest waypoint, (i opened the map to check this cost) then closed it using escape key.. but oh no! Closing the bug report window seemed to be a priority. I think there should be some sort of confirmation when you try and close a bug report with escape, because it is a real pain to type it all out again.
Back on the issue of getting stuck, can we buy insurance against it, and claim back any waypoint charges incurred because we got stuck due to a bug, because I have spent at least 5 silver from getting out of places where I am stuck via a waypoint.
Thanks for reading.
Can you get this in sPvP? I can’t for the life of me find it at the guy, and am feeling all signet of rage atm :@
Cantrips are our skills to get away from a bad situation, and you can trait them to give vital regeneration and vigour, they really help an ele survive!
Looks good, you clearly put in lots of thought and there seems to be lots of synergy between spells, even if there is a lack of mobility which I really like about the dagger weapon sets.
Water fields with a torch seem a bit random though, what if it goes out? ^^
Well from my screenshots of my levelling, I can see that I used arcane blast, wave and signet of fire, with the staff. I didn’t even know about combo fields/finishers then, but I seemed to do alright.
And d/d has great AoE, it just isn’t ground targeted, and is quite short range, but if you use, say drake’s breath or cone of cold on mobs that are close together in range, then you’ll hit more than 1.
You might benefit from a few things, maybe swapping your pyromancer’s puissance out for evasive arcana, because you have lots of combo fields with staff, and you can get some really things from rolling in earth with them. Also, if your heal is on CD, or it gets interrupted, you can’t remove conditions (apart from water skill 5, which is a long cd/cast time), so you might want to swap out icy mist for cleansing wave, I find cleansing wave really good for just quickly removing a chilled or crippled while running away from stuff too.
Hey, not sure if this is the right section, but I couldn’t see anywhere better.
I need to grab a new mouse, and I was hoping for one with a few extra buttons (not sure how many) compared to a conventional mouse, and I am leaning towards wireless, but I dunno why, can anyone suggest a mouse, or suggest amount of buttons/wires, or any advice at all would be welcome!
DG:
WEAPON: Dual daggers for the easy boss fights and between bosses, staff for the harder bosses or those you need range for.
UTILITY SKILLS: Glyph of Storms (great in earth), Conjure frost bow (great when team use it too), radiation field (asura racial, nice long poisons combo field)
ELITE SKILL: Glyph of elementals, and I always forget to use it.
PVP:
WEAPON: Dual Daggers
UTILITY SKILLS: bunker spec: 3 cantrips , More dps focused: arcane blast, wave, (with arcana trait XII)
ELITE SKILL: Glyph of elementals, and I still forget to use it.
WvW:
WEAPON: When travelling with a small group of guildies, dual daggers, when zerging to defend a tower or keep, staff.
UTILITY SKILLS: 3 cantrips, great for running away!
ELITE SKILL: Take a guess ^^
Ele clicked for me after I was level 80. I levelled to 80 with a staff, and using arcane blast/wave with signet of fire, and did most of orr solo with it. When I had a root around on the forums, and saw that dual daggers were pretty good, so I tried them out… and they clicked almost straight away and I was able to take on 3 or 4 risen mobs, without dying, which I wasn’t so good at staffing
Hope it clicks earlier for you, because ele is really fun to play!
Lots of eles have substantial amounts of might, and lots of fury, are these factored in?
Also is it really fair to compare berserker’s (which offers minimal defensive stats) to rampagers or knights armour which actually have a bit more defence!
I really enjoy the staff, with all the support (combo fields etc) it gives for dungeons with my friends, but whenever I try it out (often when I feel optimistic) in PvP, I just can’t help but feel like it has nothing to actually kill anyone because it feels like really passive play. D/D and S/D have much less casting time, and there is much less placing of AoEs with other weapon sets.
There are 10 staff skills which deal alright damage, compared to the 15 damaging skills on a D/D weapon set, where the d/d has much more mobility, I just can’t seem to get a good rhythm going with the staff in PvP, do you ever find this?
Why not just divide all of the prices/amount of tokens you get by 10?
Although I dunno how DR would deal with that
At a glance, I dunno if I would have the patience for the slow attunement recharge rate, and I would miss the free boons with no points traited into arcana, I can imagine you’ll find yourself stuck in your last attunement for a few seconds just using the autoattack.
Also with only one defensive stat and no stun breakers, you’re going to have a hard time with mobs that will stun you!
Maybe he should put in a claim to Anet for waypoint costs, assuming he ressed up using them.
After a few goes I managed to get up, but only because I saw someone run up there first.
Oh no! While trying to get the vista near the pact rally waypoint in the straits of devastation, the sort of brown fungus things that are meant to grow out of this cliff seems to be invisible!
This makes getting up to the vista kinda hard :(
^ That is very interesting! Does the sigil of nullification work in a similar manor? If so that might be a good combo!

YES! Bunkers are great in 1v1, especially against glass cannons, if aren’t dead by the time they have used their initial burst, you can heal up most of the damage takes anyway, assuming you have adequate healing power:
water attunement + healing ripple, cone of cold, cleansing wave, regen from any cantrips used + water-3 trait, all while putting out some sustained, even if it isn’t on par with with a more offensive class, we have so many skills to sustain constant damage we can wear them down, and use one of our awesome gap-closers when they start to get all chicken!
Just make sure you know when to ride the lightning away, and make sure you have lots of condition removals if you are stacking toughness and healing power.
TLDR; sustained damage and survivability > quick spike of damage!
A sigil with the same stacking mechanic of bloodlust, then switch out for 5% damage or crit chance!
I’m tempted to guess the bunker ele, because bunker ele’s often have lots of power anyway, and without the critical damage an ele’s burst isn’t going to be that great anyway, infact (coming from a D/D perspective) once the initial burst is over, if you have survived you can probably heal up pretty quickly in time for the next burst, all while applying the odd condition, and gaining plenty of boons to wear down the more offensive ele with sustained damage.
Staff eles, I have no idea who would win though!
So do you think it is an appropriate range?
Yeah but start the bidding at 800 first!
800?
Best I can do is 300.
(Seriously though, in my experiences, it feels like 300 but most of the time, I’m in the middle of a firefight so I don’t really notice too much. I just know that it affects 2, sometimes 3 allies on my team.)
Sorry, I didn’t mean I think it has an 800 range, that is the range i’d like it to be!
I’m not really sure why you have chosen the hammer, as I have only ever used that in jumping puzzles for the big knockback, have I been overlooking its auto attack? Is it better than an extra cantrip and 10 extra trait points to put into another trait line? The extra 10 in air might help your arcana-25 trait proc a bit more!
Yeah but start the bidding at 800 first!
Yeah it annoys me too, especially how in the kill feed thing it says
Puff Pure <mist form> Puff Pure
..which happens maybe more often than Puff Pure would like
Wiki says it is around 400, but I was just interested if people (like me) thought it was a bit small, it is alright for one person, but I find it tricky to give an aura to the whole team, when some can attack from 1200 range and others need to be right next to the mobs!
