PvE gets huge patchs with storylines, instances, new maps and raids every 3 months. PvP gets new seasons, exclusive rewards and the most careful, extensive and well thought balance changes. WvW gets one small balance change, a new UI element, three bug fixes, a tap in the back and the promise that you guys are working on something.

I know that WvW has some sandbox nature and requires a bit less maintenance than PvE. But of this is not neglect, I don’the know what it is.

They still give bags and score. They still lost. They relog dead. And shamed. So nope.

When someone disconnects to not get stomped by me, instead of feeling frustrated like OP, I actually feel better and chuckle.
If the person choose to Alt+F4, reopen the client, relog, choose character, get booted out of WvW and go thought a extra loading screen instead of just respawning, it’s because I really gave him a good beating while my rewards are still the same.

One good thing about a marauder/zerker set (or zerk+valk trinkets) is that with the same gear you can play different playstyles. You can just roam or play kinda ganky with a similar build to the sPvP build. Swap a few things and you can go full glassy hammer, running all the damage modifiers and doing huge damage. Swap some traits and legends and you can play this frontline meta build that I recommended you. Swap again a few traits and you can run a frontline more pirateshippy, with more damage and less damage reduction/stability uptime. Changing traits/legends is way easier and cheaper than having a bunch of different armor sets on yout bag.

If you’re talking about frontline sustain, I’m gonna suppose you’re talking about WvW, right?
So…

Sword/Axe is worse than Staff when playing frontline in zergs. Of course, it has more damage, but you’re missing a block, a heal, a blast, a condi clear, a non-targeted fake leap and a evade. All of them way more important to frontlining than the extra damage from sword. You can have your damage and AoE CC from your hammer instead.

About legend choices. Glint is 100% fine, but Dwarf will give you much more on a organized group. I’d go Jarlis/Mallyx.

About traits. On herald, running Radiant Revival is much more important than Hardening Persistance, because people will eventually go down and rev is a good resser. And also Enhanced Bulwark is better than Elder’s Force when playing frontline, even more when your damage sucks (I’ll get there).

Devastation can be good if you’re glassier, what is not the case. Invocation will give you as much damage (Roiling Mists, Equilibrium, Ferocious Aggression) while also giving you utility like a heal and a stunbreak.

Corruption is just a waste, IMO. You’re wasting the minor traits condi-focused while you also don’t need Demonic Defiance to keep your resistance uptime. Durability runes, herald and boon duration food are enough. Also, running Manical Persistance for the crit chance instead of running Invocation with Roiling Mists is just a terrible choice. Just go Invocation instead of Corruption and make a decision if you wanna run Retribution or Devastation, if you’re playing more pirateshippy or not.

About the stats, this is a mess. 18% crit chance, 3k armor, you REALLY don’t need it as a rev. What I understood from this build is that the person build the stats tankier and tried to get damage from the traits, when the opposite is WAY more effective. Go marauders with zerker, pick Mallyx/Dwarf, pick Invocation/Retribution/Herald, get a staff (aka the meta build) and if you play smart, you’ll have both more damage and a better survivability.

Also, get Mussels Gnashblade as a food. It’s straight up OP. This is my two cents, I hope it’s helpful.

As other people have said, it seems that all the stars aligned for him to be able to do this damage. Rev is able to have a bunch of damage modifiers (Targeted Destruction, Swift Termination, Cruel Repercussion, Ferocious Aggression, Elder’s Force, a bunch of vulnerability application, runes, food and such) and when everything is activated, you can get hits like this playing glassy rev.
Isn’t common for this to happen, but I guess every player that plays glassy hammer rev hit like this once in their lifetime.

But if you give necros this, you would counter the weakness that the class has, that is focus fire.
More HP do give you more survivability. Otherwise thieves, with tons of evades and mobility, would be immortal. But they’re the squishiest class in the game. Necros doesn’t feel squishy in 1v1 or 2v2. They feel squishy against 3+ people focusing them. Because unlike evades/block/invul that mitigates damage from multiple sources simultaneously, HP does not. With more people attacking, the less effective HP is. But again, this is by design. Necros are by far the best offensive class in teamfights, with tons of AoE, damage and debilitating condis. A buch of weakness, cripple and chill. If you don’t focus them, you lose. If you give the class that has the best offense in teamfights, the highest base hp in the game, a second hp pool that recharges, and give it also more options to mitigate damage, what you’re taking out to balance this?
Because, again, necros are weak against focus fire by design. As revs and mesmers are weak against condis, and thieves are against random cleave, and rangers and eles are against hard CC, and guardians are against unblockables, and the list goes on.
And again I point out that necros feel weak right now (for some people) because of the meta. During season 2 or 3 you had a bunch of bruisers around and healbot eles. Because of this, you had A TON on necros around. At least 3 per match. Because in a heavy sustain bruiser meta, necros shine. The attrition gameplay countered the sustain and the bruiser meta didn’t do much damage to necros when focus firing. Necros were more than fine with the same weaknesses they have right now.
That’s why I think that if ANet will give more survivability to necros, it should still be in line with the class design. Give it more effective HP. More lifeforce sustain, more DS when respawning, the F2 spectral walk and such. But do not give it active mitigation, or necro will become in the next hour the most OP class in the game.

If you give evades/blocks to necro, I’d also ask for condi clear on meta rev builds, range for engis, tankiness and teamfight potential for thieves, AoE damage for druids and so go on.
Necros were fine (and actually super strong) in the bruiser meta, but are weaker in a bursty meta. It’s the design and not the balance in numbers the problem in this case.

If you’re against a power build, you can duel.
If you’re against a condi build, you may be able or not to duel. And in most of the situations you gonna take a long time to win, by kiting and such. But is still doable. Just straight up avoid condi chronos though.

WvW has never been fair to begin with.
Number of servers doesn’t represent the overall population. And sometimes your server do fight servers with more people. And sometimes you lose.
This is not a blownout match. Looks fine. Check MOS for the total PPT scoreboard and you’ll see that T2 is actually the most balanced tier right now in EU

Welcome to the class that is still in beta.
Only thing I can do for you is this tip: if you’re not in a flat terrain, don’t trust in the range of your skills. Most rev skills calculates the range as a straight line following the ground intead of a straight line from you to your target. That’s kinda why small bumbs kittens them over. So if the skill needs to cross more ground than a straight line from you to your target, it might not reach and miss.

SMC always paper would be great. But maybe removing doors would be too much. But I would like too see how it would work.
Without doors there would be people inside SMC all the time. While blobs are around it would be pretty much the same. But when there’s no blobs, roamers would be all around the place. Small fights in SMC are amazing. Could be super fun. But also a risky change. I’m not sure about it but I would love to test.

Yak’s Bend might be a good choice if it is between your choices. From the matchup predictions, it is expected for YB to bounce between T1 and T2 unless something changes. The same applies for TC. TC and YB have some difference in server cultures so you might check this out for which one suits you more.
FA could also be a good choice. Unlike TC/YB, they’re stable in T2 and you would have both zergs and smaller groups to play with.
I can’t say much about T3 and T4 but the last time I was there, some months ago, it also looked healthy and fine.

I really, really enjoy the thief in heavy armor vibe. So I enjoy running Shiro/Glint most of the time. Unless I’m in a serious PvE raid, or a serious WvW raid playing frontline, I’ll have Shiro slotted. Gladly this is actually meta most of the time.
I also swap shield for sword and axe sometimes just for fun. And I also sometimes bring hammer to sPvP and roaming because while is not ideal, it is still pretty strong and fun.

Something else that I also love on revenant besides gameplay is the visual identity. From promo material to animations, icons and effects, I find everything amazing.
Except Glint ground effect. They could have done better.

I don’t know if it was designed to be camped, as camping a single legend is super counter productive, because you can have twice as much energy per second if you swap on cooldown. But I see the reasons to think that and in both ways it also shows how it doesn’ work.

Something else that someone else briefly mentioned is that there’s even fewer reasons to take Jarlis when you have the retribution traitline, that already gives you stability, taunt and damage reductions passively. Both the Retribution traitline and Jarlis legend were supposed to make you feel tankier. But one of them does it passivelly without effort and acomplishes it, while the other doesn’t acomplishes it, while needing active input and spending energy.

I can see how Jarlis spread what Retribution does not only to yourself but also to your allies, but Jarlis not only feels bad but also redundant if you take Retribution too.

If you merge servers, over time you will have exactly the same problems as before. People will keep transfering in and out, but you will have no way to manually adjust populations to balance them again. It will be exactly as before, but with 4 tiers instead of 8.

1 up 1 down sounds great on paper but will be a disaster ingame. Servers are not perfectly balanced between tiers. Get ready to stomp other servers in one week and be stomped in the next one, without having a balanced match in between, and second place servers being stuck in second place forever.

Glicko also sucks, btw. And it’s sad that it can’t adjust itself in one month.

Pretty much. One month is a reasonable timeframe for people to just hang on and see what happens in the next server linkings.

The linking system is so broken it literally traverse space and time as the main fault for servers failing, since servers bouncing up and down the last 4 years has been standard practice.

I can’t say about EU, but this is exactly the opposite in NA. NA never had this much matchup variance as before. Servers going up and down tiers, ex-link server becoming hosts, ex-link servers becoming enemy servers in the next link and so go on. Before the links, what happened in NA was that most of the tiers were locked by glicko walls and population size differences, while the bottom tiers were just dead. Server linkings are a good thing. They create more matchup changes and actually promote more balanced servers when the links are made. The problem is that a lot of things can happen in two months, and what was balanced at the start of the link can not be balanced anymore as time goes on. So a decrease of the time in between new links to make the system catch up faster to the players activity would be much better.

If you lost 8 guilds with the unlink, it just means that your server never had these guilds in the first place. And if more people left in the process, well, we can’t create a glicko-supported system that accounts for server drama.

To make it better, server linkings need to be quicker. One month would be better, rather the two month period we have right now. The system will never be quick enough to consider mass bandwagons and implosions instantly because the numbers behind it are much more complex than “8 guilds in/out”, but reducing to a one month period would fix it a bit.

The problem about Jarlis is that it was supposed to feel tanky and brawly, but it simply isn’t.
I really can’t see myself using it in any situation. The heal cleanses you after the healing, so poison can affect it. The brick road is slow and clunky, and just not very effective because you will already have stab on dodge (I’m gonna suppose that you play Jarlis with retri) and just one stack for your allies is easy to break. The taunt is only useful in 1v1 and quite expensive. The hammers are super buggy and doesn’t deal enough damage to be a dangerous. The elite is great, but 50% of energy is too much for spvp.

I really don’t know how to change Jarlis to be more useful in spvp. Maybe the road being faster, more responsive and giving AoE protection? Or the hammers not being counted as projectiles, so they’re not destroyed/reflected. And fixing the heal cleanse.

On paper, with AoE stability, taunt and damage reductions, Jarlis was supposed o feel like a tank. But it just doesn’t. I only use it for frontline in WvW (where you can focus in only spam your elite and nothing else) and PvE raids.

People can grind to legend and we are at the end of the season.
Divisions doesn’t meant player skill. Personal MMR does. And we can’t see our personal MMR, just have a very vague idea based on the team MMR.

Because we have less cooldowns overall in comparsion to classes that only relies on cooldown and we have a second set of skills to use. You said that you’re new to rev, so you’ll need some time to learn how to manage energy.
If you’re complaining about keeping all the upkeeps up all the time, I believe you’re talking more about PvE, right? PvE revs are used to sit on a single legend all the time, just like some eles like to sit on fire attunement. And this is a problem. If you change legends on cooldown, you’ll make TWICE as much energy per second than just the regular energy recovery in combat.
So my tip is for you in PvE is: swap to a legend, spend everything in 9 seconds and swap again.

I really don’t think that the links or the lack of them are the problem. The problem is that in two months, so much can happen and the servers status be completely different from what they were when they were made/unmade. DB is the best example right now, in two weeks it went from Tier 1 to dead. The votes for the links in the poll were divided between 1 month and 3 month links, and ANet decided to 2 months to make both options close. But from what we have seen now with the links in the game, one month seems even more than before a better timeframe for the linking changes. Maybe another poll could change it.

Damage is out of control. Back then, you actually had to consider which skills to use and how to manage cooldowns. Now it’s just all spam. Elite specs are just too low-risk and high-reward.

Back then you could play one of the many brainless easymode bunker specs, sit in a point and just contest it for the whole game. Wow, so much skill.
People have nostalgia glasses. They don’t remember hambow, d/d cele ele, turret engi, bunker guardian, spirit ranger and many others. It took almost a year with a pretty bad balance, but the balance we have right now is just as good as it was just before HoT hit. Of course there’s adjustments that are needed (mostly DH and druid a bit) because the game will never be perfectly balanced, but the balance we have right now never have been this good.

Yet you don’t even mention league season 1. That was the textbook definition of brainless easymode bunker specs.

Hammer/bow, d/d ele, turret engi don’t even come close to bunker chrono, bunker druid, bunker/heal tempest, DH. The old builds were beatable. When HoT came out, those elite specs ate the core specs for LUNCH. They still do, but back then it was much worse. There’s a reason ANet panicked at HoT release and took out Minstrel Amulet. Elite bunker specs were that rampant.

But I did mention that at the beginning of HoT the balance was pretty bad.

And hambow, d/d ele, turret engi and the others were totally on pair with HoT op specs. D/D ele could 1v3 on point. Hambow and it’s variations plagued the game for almost a year. Turret engi was the easiest and most efficient decapper that this game ever had.

After 3 years the game found balance (with the patch that nerfed Blinding Ashes) but HoT came and obviously threw everything out of the window. And of course elite > core, because meta is meta. Off meta builds before HoT were also trash. But again, after one year, the game is finding a good balance again and actually is the best the game ever had post-HoT. There’s still plenty of stuff to work and balance, but coming here and saying that the game balancr before HoT was clearly better than our actual meta is just nostalgia glasses.

I like this topic. Constructive and reasonable criticism. The community needs not only to remember ANet about what they did wrong, but also what they did right, so they stay on track.

I hope they still keep reworking weapons that no on uses too. And the balance, while flawed, made at least every profession viable. That’s a step up. But they need to keep improving the balance (mostly to do something about AoE damage and AoE CC spam when you have stacked classes that does it) and matchmaking. Also a forfeit vote would do wonders.

But you do have to stick around. When you join a game, you’re joining for the full game, not for just when you feel like playing. Trolls are the ones who gave up or go afk without the entire team agreeing. Unless everybody agrees to forfeit, everybody is supposed to keep playing normaly.
