I just don’t think that they’re healthy to the WvW population overall. At least for the hardcore one.
People getting burned out, servers breaking, huge population shifts (more server stacked and more servers empty), drama everywhere and more.
And in the end, the rewards are, uhh, not great. Seriously, mist runner? Really?

I’d love to see ANet implementing GvGs. Really.
But how could they implement it without hurting the PvP and WvW population? They would just farm those new currencies without playing it seriously, and going to GvG. And A LOT of people would complain that they need to farm things to play a complete new feature of the game. It goes against the “play how you want, when you want” philosophy of GW2. A lot of guilds from WvW would focus in the GvG gamemode, and groups from PvP would do the same (even more now that PvE and PvP are more attached).

This is one of the biggest issues. A lot of the WvW veterans are not happy with the state of WvW and are just playing for fights, because playing WvW how it is supposed to be played is not fair or rewarding. And ANet blindly believes that sPvP is how small scale organized combat should be done. Even if anyone who played GvG and sPvP knows that they’re very different.

How implementing a new game mode that is essentially the mix of two ones and not hurting them both is the tricky question.

Not only do we need a 25% movement option or better access to swiftness that doesn’t require runes and healing, we also need some leaps/charges. Part of the reason I really want Mesmer’s underwater weapons usable on land.

Our mobility in combat is totally fine. We are slippery enough already, and not having chasing power is one of our characteristics.

Can you give me a example of a leap/charge that only works outside combat? I looked in the wiki and I couldn’t find any.

That’s exactly why a signet is the best option. Passive for movespeed while outside combat, active for inside combat that burns the passive. And even if you keep the passive inside combat, your total movespeed is still decreased because you’re in combat. Leaps/charges ignore the movespeed debuff from being in combat. And while I love mesmers I understand that we are not supposed to be good at everything.

The problem wasn’t the bug on Power Lock, it’s the thieve’s mechanics. I know we’re all hardcore Mesmer fanboys (me included) but it’s a bug that should have been eventualy fixed.

That being said, I find it disheartening how quick they are to hotfix this bug when there are certain skills that have been bugged for MONTHS. Decisions like this make me rethink their priorities when it comes to to Mesmer.

Chill affect elementalist’s mechanic and Anet doesn’t fix it. If thieves are immune to cooldowns from interrupts, elementalists should not get their attunement cooldown increased when chilled. And yet Anet never changed it, even the community asking a lot for it.
I agree about the other changes about Power Block, but a class simply being immune is not right. Is not fair. And is not even a technical problem to Power Block make thief skills have a cooldown, because it worked. It’s just a simple decision that Anet made without a good reasoning.

Passive signet is not the way to go IMO. A movement speed bonus that goes away when you enter combat is only good for covering large distances in WvW.
I think eveyrone should be able to trait for +25% movement speed to put everyone on a (theoretical) level playing field when it comes to movement.

I humbly disagree. Signets its something that you have a lot more control, and you don’t lose them in combat if you don’t activate them. There’s a trade that you must do, you need to make a choice between the passive and the active. It’s more intelligent. You can switch to it or remove it a lot more easily. And you don’t need to invest in a traitline that you don’t like just for the movement speed.

They will not make a playable villain race because GW2 doesn’t have world pvp.
And because while GW1 theme was the struggle of the humans against other humans, races and monsters, GW2 theme is Tyria united against the dragons. The only thing like a villain race that we have besides dragons are the antagonist factions from each race. Like sylvari an the Nightmare Court, norns and the Sons of Svanir, asura and the Inquest and so go on.

My main issue is that the bugged Power Block just highlighted the fact that thieves are basically immune to an offensive mechanic that everyone else is subject to. I don’t care if they don’t have CDs normally, the interrupt CD is a separate mechanic from normal skill CDs.

In all fairness that is a flaw in the thief class/interrupt mechanic rather than in mesmers themselves.

And something I have been wondering since April 15, does a thief still use the initiative cost of a skill that gets interrupted?

The thief mechanic is a problem, but the trait didn’t need to be limited by it. It worked ingame, it’s not a technical problem. It’s a problem from the design of the trait. They wanted it to not work against thieves.
And no. They don’t lose the initiative. Heh.

Very solid map, quite fun to play however as a ranger I have one complaint about it. ITS TOO kitten SMALL.

This. Is fun, the structure is good, is really beautiful but is really, really small. And this kinda breaks the map for me. I think that a bigger TDM map can really shake how PvP is played in this game.

Some tricks in addition to focus swiftness. 6 centaur superior runes with like mantra of recovery will give u near perma swiftness. u can get swift moa feathers from tigg npc or trading post, but that may be costly in the long run(buy order of 18s right now for 30 min).

Centaur runes, focus and Ether feast works too. You can use focus and stack swiftness with Ether Feast after, and when it’s done you can do it again.

But yeah, mesmers need a +25% move speed signet, as does other professions. We have signets with worthless passives already, just need to change them.

If moa was good, a lot more people would use. Just a few people use, and mostly for trolling purposes. It’s really annoying, but no, moa is not OP, as already a lot of people have stated the causes.

And about the lich form/tornado, mesmer is a class that one of the designs is the counterplay of the enemy skills. Like all the interrupts that we have. Moa is how we counterplay other’s elites.

If another EU powerhouse comes over to NA it is JQ’s time to implode. RG made SoS implode, ZDs made SoR implode and JQ has been in t1 for far too long anyway.

Unless of course, such a group wanted good fights and came over to JQ to balance T1’s EU?

last time i checked on the prediction thread before season 2 was majority was saying JQ was gonna destroy BG, TC and all due to their numbers and coverage, same thing like season 1, it was like 1.JQ 2. TC. and 3. BG. now your saying JQ needs EU guild to balance eu? LOL.

You’re kidding, right? Everybody, in this forum and in the GW2WvW said that BG would win season 2 before the season started, and that they were just hibernating. Not just because “lol bribegate playing underdogs to get guilds” but because BG rested and now can play overtime with all the dedication that is possible to win.

This will never happen.
GW2 is centered around the idea where another player near playing with you is always something good, not a bad thing. And the idea of play how do you want, and don’t be punished by it. The reward system, event system, party system, xp system, everything in this game is made around it. It’s a great idea and one of the best things in the game. What you’re suggesting is to punish players who want to play together, even if it is in great numbers.

As a hardcore WvW player, I totally agree with you that the blobiness takes away some of the fun of the game. And is actually a shame that they will not create something to punish players in blobs. But what they can do is instead of punishing the blob, is to reward with more power the smaller numbers, with new siege, new WvW skills who works while outnumbered and such. I still think that is something that will be hard to see someday (the outnumbered buff is worthless, for example), but at least is a more natural approach to the core of the game.

So..

Mesmers are better in WvW/SPvP in my opinion, Time Warp, reflects and portal are really useful. I’d say they do much more damage aswell.

Elementalists are definitely a lot harder to play.

Mesmers are probably the most tedious to level though, phantasms are most of your damage and they don’t really get good to higher levels. Great at 80 though.

Excuse me! But I need to disagree. About WvW large scale (by the examples you gave), elementalists are not only better than mesmers, but they are at the same time the main source of burst damage, burst heals and CC in entire zerg groups. A zerg can live without a mesmer, but is really hard to live without elementalists. In groups with less than seven people, I believe that mesmers are better tho.
But I do agree with you in sPvP, mesmers aren’t really in a good spot but at least before the last patch, elementalists were even worse. Poor eles. But things are still settling down for a bit, and with all those changes, just time will tell.

And about burst, I believe that eles are better at it than mesmers. But while mesmers are good at bursting people too, mesmers can also do some nice sustain damage, what is harder for elementalists.

To play mesmer, you need to have a tough skin. From the hard time while leveling (even harder now post-patch) to being an expert and realize that no matter how good you are, we mesmers have our hands tied (bugs/mechanics, utilitybot etc).

Even so, here in this forum you can see how many people love this class. From the concept, archetype, playstyle, animations and such. We may have a lot of problems, but mesmers still are a good and fun class to play. If you have any curiosity, you should give a try.

I really don’t understand why they announced in the patch notes that Portal would gain a range indicator when it was just a tooltip information. A range indicator, like the red bar when you’re out of range, would be immensible helpful to lay down portals. Just a 5000 range tooltip doesn’t help much, it’s not a range that people are used to and always have in mind how far they can go.

From my experience, it seems that the bug happens to me when I’m on a loading screen when the queue popped.

The bug might occurs from more than one thing, because I got the bug without loading any map.

I guess is too early to say what is the new meta. At least for PvP. We need to see how Power Block will work after the fixes, and if Maim the Disillusioned will be popular in the long run.
And the meta is not just about us mesmers. It revolves around the other professions too. We need to see how the other professions will evolve to see how mesmers will fit in it.

But seems like everybody is having a blast with Power Block right now, as it works well against most of the profession/builds. Both 6/2/6 and 6/4/4 builds seems solid. And even with mesmers receiving a overall nerf, the other previous builds didn’t really change in terms of traits, equips and viability.

I can’t say much about the devs, but I think we can all agree of how much the QA of this game is bad (and is getting even worse) and how little attention we get in those forums.

I mean, we have some bugs since beta, like Illusionary Leap. Is not a bug hard to reproduce. It’s not a bug that the chance of bugging is low. It doesn’t work how it was supposed half of the time. In some situations, you have 100% chance that it will not work. It’s a bug that seriously affect the quality of the game for sword mesmer players. We never got any change about it on live servers. This skill clearly doesn’t work how it was supposed to work, and they never tried to change it with something else on live servers, since they can’t fix the skill in a way to work how it was supposed to. They just let it the way it is. Almost two years, just letting it go.

This is disheartening as a player. Even more when it’s about the mesmer community. When a new bug shows up in the game, it just take some minutes to show up here. People does a lot of tests. Take prints. Videos. Compile every information about the bug that a player is possible to and post it here. We get no answer. Not even a “we are aware of the bug” from Anet.

So yeah, our community seems to take the game and the ways to communicate with the devs a lot more serious than the devs itself. And of course, I don’t know if this is true because I can’t see the other side of the situation, but what I know is that not even about it they are worried.

First I just want that they fix the bug with mesmers clones not wearing the outfits. You can clearly see who is the real mesmer.

But yeah, now that you can use the outfits in combat, I’d love to see more of them. More thematic outfits (like a clown outfit) would be very welcome!

I believe that if mesmers have a chance of getting something good in large groups in WvW it’s when we get new weapons. Our utility skills are good, but that’s it. All our utilities are for full support, none for damage, that is what give you personal rewards. All of our weapons suck in large scale. As does our profession mechanic, too. We need our illusions to do damage, control and self defense and no illusion can stay alive with AoEs and cleaves everywhere.

Mesmers were made with the duelist concept in mind. What is fine for me. But large scale combat is a huge deal in this game, and I personally wouldn’t mind losing a bit of our dueling power for a bit more of large scale power. Well, once upon a time, warriors were supposed to be weak against conditions, so things can change.

Would be awesome if we could get a trait that gave our illusions 2s, 3s of invulnerability when summoned, or something like that. I don’t know how good or OP it would might be, it’s just something that came up to my mind while writing this.

Things being said, you can run pretty much any build in raids. Just focus in staying in the periphery of the engagement so your clones don’t die in the same instant that you summon them and you can hit the enemy squishies. I’ve ran shatter, phantasm, reflecter and I’m having fun now with 10/20/30/10/0, with Chaotic Interruption. It works just fine and you can switch to PU and roam just changing the major traits. It was before the patch, now that you can change your traits any place, anytime, this is not a issue anymore.

I just strongly suggest that you run with a GS (great AoE damage/cripple when you can cast a lucky iZerker that survives until the end, and a really good 1200 range AA that is not a projectile) and a sword (Blurred Frenzy can save you a lot when you don’t see that melee train coming after you).

Wearing this in sPVP and WvW severly breaks the balance of clones, i can be auto targeted almost instantly based on visuals.

Yup, it breaks the mesmer mechanic pretty hard. We can’t be deceptive and gain one second over the enemy if they can spot the true mesmer immediately. And we wanna enjoy the outfits too, I don’t wanna be excluded from this feature.

Mesmer is all about active defense. Shatter F3, shatter F4, stealth, sword #2, blink, lot’s of dodges with vigor and such.
We do have plenty ways to not get caught. But once caught, yeah, we are screwed. Is how the class is supposed to be.

Well, the balance change sucks, but I can adapt and live with it. It happens.
But I’m still mad about the new bugs (especially the AA GS and the outfit one, that are both so obvious) and the bugfixes and traits that where promissed but didn’t make it.
