I don’t know about the sage amulet, but I find hybrid rev really really fun. I had a blast with Viper Mallyx rev while it was meta. I might do some experiments with this again.

But night capping is totally related to imbalanced populations. Fixing one you’re fixing the other. There’s night capping because one side has way more people than the other one. If there’s people to stop them, there’s fights instead of PvD.

The new skirmish system makes populations that are not even spread out matter less. It they matter less, they will start to lose and go down (and others go up) until they find a tier who have similar population spread, where evevybody can find numbers close to their own and have fun.

And this is the secret. Fun doesn’t come with close scores. It comes with close populations in each timezone. Not overall, but each timezone. Is not about JQ having a lot os SEA and no NA while Mag having a lot of NA and no SEA and both having close scores because each can PvD in their own timezone. Slicing the timezones into skirmishes make each individual timezone matter less because you can only get so much VP no matter the PPT, indirectly asking for people to spread into a full coverge (making it easier to match the numbers) instead of stacking a timezone (and making it harder to match the numbers).

Scoring is a way to balance the game, because it eventually end up balancing populations. This is just the first step of the scoring changes, they said that more will come. Just remember about the leaked WvW document, were a bunch of stuff came out to be true. I have no idea if this will work or not, if it will be better or worse, but is something. We weren’t even able to see how this will affect the game in the long run. I’ll be waiting and watching.

I also wish we had more utility skills options for each legend and even suggested the same during the beta. They didn’t bother.
Now it’s too late. Revenant is done by their eyes. Even when the class still looks like it is still in beta.

I wish we got daggers. Main hand dagger as condi/hybrid ranged (being our condi ranged option as many people want) and offhand as something similar, but maybe even more hybrid. We have a ranged hammer, we could also have ranged daggers.
So we could go with these new weapon combinations:

Sword/dagger as power
Mace/dagger as condi
Dagger/dagger or any other OH thar we have as condi, hybrid or power.

But actually I would like any weapon that could go both in the main hand as the offhand, to increase the lack of weapon options that we have. Sword, mace and axe we already have in both hands or one, so I would choose dagger so we could have both of them new.

Greatsword could be cool too just for the looks. And about the theme, one more dervish-y I would enjoy. But one more ritualist with summon AI I would hate. kitten AI.

I like this suggestion. I also like the more PPK while outnumbered too, similar to the bloodlust ruins buff.
Both are small chances that doesn’t create a toxic behaviour and doesn’t require huge mechanical or system changes.
Outnumbered buff could have a bunch of interesting effects but as it looks like we are not getting anything, these small changes at least are something.

I can’t say much about the numbers themselves but I’d suggest two armor sets: one close to what your regular melee players will be using, and another one pretty tanky.

The first one is just for regular commanding. Having your stats being close to your frontline will give you a better understanding of your frontline damage, defense and sustain. Because if you have very different stats you might have 80% of your hp up and ask people to push but your frontline could have only 30% and the push be a disaster.

The second tankier set is just because you eventually will be pinsniped. It will happen. And if you’re not experienced, being tankier will help you to deal with it.

I see your point and that there’s some good points on it. But something else came to my mind: creating equality in scores against servers that are not equal in populations are actually worse for the game. Playing unfair matches are not fun, and if you make the scores closer, you will perpetuate unfair matches because it will be harder for servers to go up and down. Making unfair matches staying longer. So weaker servers scoring more might sound good but will do more harm than good.

That’s why I would like more new systems where you could balance the actual gameplay itself (ie: less zerging so smaller groups could face better fights) than just the scoring itself. It would be just makeup. The score would not represent fairly what is happening in game, and would make the tier systems fail because they use the scoring systems as their measurement.

How would you define a population? Numbers of accounts on a server? Number of people logged in the server? Number of people in WvW? Number of people on the map? Number of people in the event?
Just this definition already would be a mess, because none of those measurements are enough to say how much “WvW worthy” a server is.

Also, one of GW2 guidelines is that playing with more people is not a problem but a blessing, and this is reflected in a huge number of mechanics, like node resources, dynamic party system, shared loot and such.

Creating a system where less people is better goes against it and would be extremely toxic. Depending on how you define how you measure a servers population, you would have people yelling at each other to log out, to get out of the map, get out of the fight, get out of the capture zone and such so they can score more. And this would be followed by a increase of elitism, where only the top players would feel worthy of being the ones to play so they can score more with less. The pve casuals, newbies and such would be even more excluded because they would only dilute the score.

I do think that comeback score mechanics or mechanics that reduce the sizes of the zergs would be amazing and very healthy for the game overall, but glueing it to such an arbitrary number as pure population is not only very complicated and delicated, but would end up being super toxic, killing even more of what is left of population and new blood into WvW.

Dragonbrand will be okay and it’s not “imploding”. Before they went t1 they had a certain amount of guilds and a strong community. Some guild left yeah, but they’ll be okay. They still have their community. They don’t want to be t1 anymore and I don’t blame them. Being in T1 takes a lot of hard work and it can wear on you. Db will go T2 and it’ll be nicer for them.

By “community” you mean asians right? And by “not imploding” you mean like DB totally not imploded 3 times before?

What is it good for?

Absolutely nothing!

Without knowing how they were killed it means nothing.
For all you know the Maguuma zerg could have been hiding in their towers filled with ACs whilst the enemy zergs kept on attacking and players dying to ACs until they finally took the tower.

Doesnt mean Maguuma are skilled players or anything else really.

If you compare the KDR from servers like Maguuma and BG, that have a old and strong fight culture, and compare to the KDR of a server like Yak’s Bend, that have a old and strong siege culture, its crystal clear that positive KDR is WAY more impacted by people fighting (and winning) than siegehumping.

When a T3 server consistently has the highest KDR between both NA and EU servers since KDR started to be tracked, while playing against servers from different tiers, sizes and coverages, you know that they must do something right.

I’d give the #1 to druid. Trooper runes, soldier druid.
Amazing kiting and good disengage with stealths and stability without sacrifices, all really, really good for roaming. Great sustain too, with heals, protection to go against power builds and good condi cleanses to go against condi classes. The damage and the burst isn’t the greatest, but you do have them with your pets and some combos.
Really, really strong in 1v1 and outnumbered. Isn’t as great in groups because almost all of your damage in single target, so you can’t pressure many enemies at the same time, but makes up for it with some group support and still does good. It’s also pretty simple to pick up and learn.

And its not just BG. Every server you have faced hates everything about YB.

This over here. Other servers have been the top dogs of PPT before in different tiers and didn’t spark this kind of reaction. This isn’t about winning or losing, its about YB. Everybody else outside YB would love to see the server that sucks the fun out of WvW out of their tier.

They might not do something as simple as lowering points in various time zones. There are more elegant ways to approach the problem and they’ve had years to think about it…I think they’ll do better.

The system was detailed in the leaked notes and it was exactly that.

This. The leaked system is great. People who complain that one timezone will be less valuable than the other should go and read the leaked system. Simplifying, is somewhat like this: your PPT is only as valuable as there enough enemy activity to compete against for it. If people are just fighting doors at off prime hours, the PPT scores for less, what is totally fine and fair because no matter what timezone youre playing, fighting enemies should be more valuable than fighting empty doors. But if they’re fighting about the same amount of enemies, the PPT scores for pretty much the same or even more. The PPT value changes with the activity on the map. It’s a pretty smart take on the problem.

It changes. In small fights, starting with Shiro for the jump and offensive ED is good. But in teamfights, starting in Glint for the AoE vulnerability and Elemental Blast in groups is also good. I usually go for prebuff on Glint outside combat and when I see that I’ll get a fight soon (like walking to mid in sPvP), I already swap for Shiro and stay on it for the cd on Glint to run down while I’m still able to jump on someone if a good opportunity shows up.

Rev is fine. There’s a bunch of small problems, like underwater, bad traits, bugged skills and such. But the only big problem right now is the lack of diversity.

If you’re running the meta builds (power Shiro/Glint, frontline Mallyx in WvW) you’re not only fine but you’re pretty good. Now, if you try to run something else you’re crap. If you try to run baseline revenant then, wow, you’re totally crap. The fact that we have so few weapons and they’re all way too one dimensional, and our utilities are tied to the legends make this lack of diversity to be even worse.

If it is a feature, why does it arbitrarily scales with condition damage when the sieges are balanced around their base damage, that doesn’t scale with power?

How exactly it doesn’t fit the theme? It promotes offense, does damage, has jades and life steals. It doesn’t need to be a copy of other skill to be thematic. This is not what a theme is.

And if you other heal is on cooldown, it’s your fault, not Shiro’s lol. And just look what you just said. Our heals are indeed weaker because we have two of them. Shiro heal is not supposed to be amazing in every situation.

I play WvW as zerk rev against T1 blobs all the time. I also play spvp as marauder. In both situations, I find that Shiro heal its just fine, because its more than a heal. If it was the only heal available, yeah, it would suck because its situational. But thats the reason why rev has two heals: they complement each other. I have no issues with Shiro heal at all. I actually find that its pretty good into the context of the profession and fits the legend thematic perfectly.

I just wanna reinforce the idea that roaming in T1 NA is more like skirmishes with 5 ~ 8 people than duels. And when you find a solo roamer, it’s a condi mesmer.

Not really! The design of the class indeed asks for swapping the legend every few seconds. Sitting in one legend during the entire fight is a no no. What sounds a problem to you, it’s fun to others. I love playing revenant, elementalist and engineer. A lot of buttons to press and skills to manage, giving me a lot of options. Playing a warrior, for example, is super boring to me.

The idea is to go into a legend, burn everything using all the energy on it until it reaches zero and swap. You will get 50% energy back. And then you burn it too and swap back after the cooldown is over and the energy is depleted.

Sitting in one legend is counter productive. You’re not getting the maximum amount of energy possible. Of course, if the enemy is super weak and dies in a few hits, there’s no need to swap because you gonna kill him in a few instants. But if the fight takes a bit more, you’re indeed supposed to stance dance. Is the most optimal way to have the higher amount of energy available (swapping and getting 50% back), meaning that you will be using skills way more, and it also will keep proccing your on swap weapon sigils and traits. So with more energy and swaps you will have more damage, more healing, more mobility, more defense and so go on.

PS: You can notice that Jarlis, Mallyx, Glint and Shiro have ways to burn the energy that might be left on your bar before swapping. Jarlis hammers, Mallyx ult, Glint upkeeps and Shiro quickness. If the swap cooldown is coming closer to be ready and you have nothing to spend the energy that you already have, use these skills to not waste them by swapping with energy left in your bar (if you don’t think you might need a stunbreak, for example). Revenant is all about burning the most energy possible in the most effective way.

You may have read old content. Before the Cristal Hibernation nerf, revenant indeed had a good sustain with Shield 5 healing for around 4k and the trait proc for another 4k, plus the Glint heal and traits like lifesteal on Devastation.

But yeah, now revenant is about dodges/evades/blinds/blocks. It’s a thief in a heavy armor. If you’re looking for passive defenses, it’s the wrong class for you. Also because if you wanna be a good revenant, you will need to micromanage two weapons and two stances in every single build.

It’s quite the opposite. The longer the season, the longer the time you have to be placed where you really belong to because you can play enough games for the system gather more data and place you in the right place. Many people can’t play all day every single day, so the longer the season, more time for the person to be able to play enough matches do place where the truly belongs. And people actually can improve as they play, so if they didn’t start playing PvP being a player worth of a diamond, for example, with more matches he can actually improve his skill and also improve his placement.

The problem only comes in the GW2 system, where there’s a bunch of safety nets for pips. But in any MMR system, the longer the season (and the bigger the amount of games played), the more accurate the system gets.

1 v 1 I have no problems shutting down a Tempest with Invocation revenant. They can bunk the point for maybe 10 seconds.

This. In my own experience, in a 1v1 scenario they can buy time but eventually die. Even so, I hardly think that Invocation Marauder rev or any other spec mentioned here is a true counter just because they can kill a tempest. Is not what a condi mesmer is to a rev, or a necro is to a engi, for example.

Shiro is freaking amazing.
Gap closer that makes attacks unblockable. Gap creator that is a dodge and a stunbreak. Heal that does damage. Quickness on demand. AoE stun.
It’s so mobile, so slippery and makes you hit like a truck. I feel totally crippled when I’m playing revenant whitout Shiro. The other legends (besides Glint) have some huge problems, but even if those were fixed, I still believe that Shiro would still stand on it’s own.

Your take on thief matchup

By my own experience as a rev, I believe that an average rev has the advantage against an average thief with both playing zerkers just because of the damage output that a zerker rev has against a zerker thief if the thief misses the opening. But unlike against most power matchups, against thief (and DH) you need to be a bit more cautious.

My tricks are pretty simple: using Staff 3 and Shield 5 when he gonna open on you (both skills last for a while, if you know the timing on the stealth you can predict with some good degree of certain when the thief is about to open you) so you can block/blind the opener and he will be revealed by the timer.
Using sword 2 to hit them in stealth is super strong, because it tracks the enemy position in stealth (so you can cleave or predict an opening) and many thieves don’t dodge while out of melee range and in stealth. They just forget about it.
And last, bursting while he’s CC’d (what is pretty basic against everyone) otherwise he will just kite, disengage and reset. It’s cool to do stuff like a hard CC and Unrelenting Assault afterwards, because you might follow him if he’s slow and tries to stunbreak with Shadow Step to his next position. One well placed Staff 5 can kit for 2/3 of his HP too.

In the end, dodge the steal item, don’t let them kite you using Shiro dash and CCs, don’t let them open on you, remember to use Shield 4 and Staff 4 while he’s chilling on stealth without pressuring you and you have nothing to do, and just play super aggressive

That said, we’ll be increasing the cooldowns on all tactics by 5-10 minutes. Also, once the scribing costs come down, as part of the april build, we can start looking at rebalancing their actual effects as well.

What about Cloaking Waters, that have no cooldown at all and are easily abused? They will have a cooldown now?
