Voice Over Options?

Pyriel.4370

Upon playing the demo I made an Elonian/Africa/Egyptian looking character to fit the theme and experiment with new looks etc.

While all good, the voice over is now extremely jarring. Like REALLY jarring. I know it would be expensive voice over wise but couldn’t there be a new voice over option for those who pick Human with Elonian Descent? One that suits a more African character?

Ok, why oh why were they not balanced? constant dodging, that is all there is to it…..cant a simple internal cooldown on lotus training, escapist absolution and uncatchable be applied?

I thought traps were braindead. This is almost as bad as that turret engi fiasco a cpl years ago :/

Do Guardians even like traps?

Guard since pre-launch. Hate traps but have to use them to stay viable in raids, dungeons and PvP to some extend. Ex-bunker guard here where shouts were able to sustain indefinately with enough skill. Traps feel too forced like we HAVE to play DH. Should have gone for channeled shouts ala Paragon from GW1 but maybe next time.

SPOILERS!!!!:

Blighted Canach seems bugged. Canach himself does not rez during grenade phases and his shield is shoddy activation wise making the fight choppy and extremely longer than it feels it should have been.

Canach himself does not revive once he takes enough damage and just stands there, leaving you to deal with an invulnerable blighted canach with no way of reflecting the nades.

“3. “Masteries are only there for grind and personal stories shouldn’t need these to continue.”
We have to compare this to the core game personal story which is gated every 10 levels. You only need to unlock each basic masteries to continue the personal story (for now at least). This actually seems fair when compared to the core game personal story.”

At stage 14, you need Itzel 4, right out of the bat.

As in it pretty much goes 1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 4. That is WAY too much for story grind.

That’s actually isn’t a lot compared to levelling from level1-80 in the core story

Yes it is.

I’ve been at it about 12 hours playing the game without hardcore grinding. (both long sessions though) and I have pipped HALF WAY to level 3 itzel mastery (already had level 1 from before the 12 hour start).

By this point I would have easily hit 50-60 without tomes or boosts of any sort.

It is simply too much to gate a story behind.

You have to do the math. From level60 – level70 total exp is much more than from mastery 2-3 in terms of number wise…Everything else is opinion oriented.

Please refrain from rudeness.

Total exp is not really the main issue here. It is the METHOD of exp gaining. It is making you grind events that nudge it forward. In core GW2 exp is thrown at you, in HoT the amount of ways to earn exp is scarce, you are reduced to meta event farming for story progression. Simply add that to the total exp from mastery 2-3 itzel (1.7mil) equaling leveling to 1-61 (1.7mil) and extremely low exp gains in events (story wise it is asking you do go from level 1 itzel to level 4 itzel, not 2-3 btw).

Let’s throw into the mix the basic event exp for gold rating is 19k-ish

For level 2-3 itzel I would have to do 90 events. But remember, I am leveling from 1 – 4 for a new story chapter, so that would make it exp wise; 1 million + 1.7million + 2.5 million = 5.2 million (the numbers I use are rounded DOWN http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Heart_of_Maguuma_mastery_track#Itzel_Lore)

5.2 million / 19k Means I will have to do 273 events before I can continue the personal story.

You are talking to someone who has leveled every class from 1-80 (not including rev), I have a lot of experience and a good feel for slow or fast progression in general also. Leveling your mastery to the first level for the story felt fine, not too pushy and enough to make me explore without too much of a grind at all.

So all in all tell me, is 273 events for 1 story chapter NOT grinding?

To clarify, level 1 masteries = fair enough, they don’t take too long.

Level 4 mastery? Hell naw. I’ve played a full 10 hours today by doing some hero points, adventures, events, map completion (as much as I can), a guild hall capture etc and I have pushed my Itzel mastery to just over half way to the 3rd level.

Level 4 is just going to take too kitten long for me to enjoy ANY continuity with the story. I would probably have to play the previous episode again to remember what exactly has gone on -.-

Like wdf I had to level from 70 to level80 to unlock personal story and that was like 2m exp.. How dare they do that back in the days and kept doing for 3 years…

Please see my reply to your other post.

For that particular reply of yours;

70 to 80 isn’t that hard with crafting, hearts, event chains, dungeons, hero points, vistas, etc. There are tons of ways to get there that don’t take more than perhaps a day or two if done properly and you can take your time IF YOU WISH.

What can you do to advance mastery bars in a meaningful way? Meta events that nudge it slightly, hero points (the ones that aren’t gated) and mapping (the points that aren’t gated), adventures that nudge it and that’s about it.

I am not talking about the level 1 mastery gates, that’s whatever cus they are generally at the start of a new area and makes you go explore the area for a somewhat easy experience. My issue is with them expecting you to grind further past that, WAY past that to get to the next stage of personal story.

All in all it sounds like you haven’t even got to the part where you are required to farm lvl 4 itzel.

Did Anet REALLY have to gate story behind hours and hours of grind?

The point I am at requires lvl 4 Itzel Mastery…..it’s taking forever to get level 3 gliding, been at it for about 3/4 hours (events are sluggish with exp etc) and I’m only half way…half way to gaining an ability to LEAN when I glide.

So you are telling me I cannot access the story because you want me to further grind?

If mastery points/exp was fun and not repetitive to get then yeh, fair enough, but you have made it necessary to zerg about with a commander (yet again), to equip my lootstick (yet again) and mindlessly follow a crowd because;

1. The events are far from soloable.

2. Only so many hero points are doable without grinding mastery and many you need a grp for.

3. Exp trickles into mastery bars. I get you want to make certain stuff ‘hard to get’ but GRINDING ISN’T DIFFICULT, IT IS BORING, A POOR MAN’S ‘INVESTMENT’.

I seriously feel like I grind less in wow compared to this game.

You should probably sort it Anet, cus if my memory serves, during the PAX announcement this came up about the mastery system;

“You do it once, this is all part of our no-grind philosophy for Guild Wars 2.”

Sheesh ONCE is enough and that still feels like a grind.

^ this is a link to a transcript of the PAX announcement.

Mastery does not feel like progression, it feels like another layer of grind that is in the way of me enjoying the game.

Don’t these Quaggan seem fishy to you?

Dragonhunter updates, post BWE3 (launch)

in Guardian

Pyriel.4370

So we get a spear pull (great) and a trait buff that boosts damage at range.

That is basically representative of why Dragonhunter isn’t going to work well once balanced after the launch shiney.

Anet needs to make up it’s mind as currently the problems are blatantly as follows;

- Traps in general, we cannot even throw them so we need to get in close to use them anyway.
– Virtue 2 is a leap into allies, healing them (likely melee) but you want to be ranged for the dps trait buff.
– Virtue 1 will pull enemies close but the longbow needs to be at range for dps buff.
– Shouts range is 600 but 13% dmg buff is when beyond 600 range.

The synergy is terrible a Dragonhunter can not be at peak at any time as a Guardian as it will be constantly be competing with either close or far range. Traps should be exchanged for chants (shouts with a cast time and/or pulsating effect?) with at least 900 range.

Simply put, make Story Mode have a Hard Mode.

Not dps sponges but hard mode with meaningful encounters. Where Adelbern is a threat, or Zhaitan has the fight that he deserved rather than a glitchy camera with fireworks, meaningful encounters that are mechanically challenging and engaging while pulling people more towards the main storyline.

Make Story Mode have a new Hard Mode system in which a new ‘tier’ of skins can be earned via tokens, incidentally another way to recycle old legacy armors like Templar? Might be too much fan service though in regards to legacy armor and weps.

For the love of God don’t switch to fractals at the cost of dungeons as they are WAY more interesting story wise and are not as mind numbing and repetitive as fractals. They also avoid the gear treadmill cus obtaining more agony resist is a gear treadmill whether you like it or not.

The dungeons were one of the main selling points (same as the world encounters) and only ended up like they are now due to no TLC (same as world encounters). So don’t leave them in the dust (like world encounters) and be creative rather than lazy.

PvP wise hammer is dead ever since the JI nerf.

well, glacial heart in virtue trait line does need to be addressed ; please address a solution rather then a complaint. thanks

Hammer is extremely telegraphed and being able to combo either banish or mighty blow with Judge’s Intervention was key to a viable hammer build in PvP (where that trait choice is usually conflicted). Now that you cannot cast JI in midair, the hammer for guardian is just not going to work well in PvP and moving glacial heart won’t fix that, as the hammer is too telegraphed.

Solution? Make JI castable in midair and switch glacial heart’s place with honorable staff.

Dragonhunter just felt meh in pvp. Longbow feels clunky, JI nerf ruined hambow (T.T) and the virtues are still just not worth giving up over the standard ones.
I just feel like dragonhunter will always just be a polished poop compared to the original guard , fluctuating between op and useless :/

All in all still feels too gimmicky, synergy of the longbow compared to the other ranged options is still low. Scepter/Focus or Staff are just superior for PvP, PvE? Well I’d still go Scepter/Focus for blind/regen and blocks, I’ll keep staff also for on-demand might, swiftness and CC.

I still refuse to use traps as to me they are a failed concept in something like GW2 considering they are shruggable compared to other utilities like say any guard shout (even rangers/thieves don’t take em). feel free to just ignore that as you clearly aren’t gonna remove them but it had to be said

The traits still feel like they don’t do much. e.g. Monk’s Focus, Pure of Voice, Altruistic Healing, Shattered Aegis, Amplified Wrath…. those all feel like dynamic changers, Big Game Hunter? meh, Hunter’s Fortification? meh, Heavy Light? RNG knockback that will either be pointless or op depending on which patch.

All in all not that impressed at all.

someone should tell lypion, alkore and rom that war isnt good in pvp and ranger is op because for reason no top team seems to know that..

First read what i write then start rage. Where did you find that i said ranger is op, its similar to warrior difrents is ranger is range class so stay near his team so can be fast revived and make big damage power ranger or condi ranger what ever you want. And any one who said that warrior is op need to prove that but not in videos where he have all time team where all are top players vs random solo regular players.

Hang on, guy! Interpretation! You said in the title that warrior is the worst class, implying that ranger is better. He simply responded that top players don’t seem to know since they are running warrior and never ranger.

He said to some one need to tell Lypion, Alkore and Rom that warrior is not good and that ranger is op, becouse you are his lawyer tell me where i said that ranger is op. According to that logic mesmer is second worst class, because after ranger mesmer is less played.

By the far worst class in pvp warrior?

in PvP

Posted by: Pyriel.4370

Pyriel.4370

It is a legitimate judgement to make, most warriors actually have no trouble in non-high end esports with ham/gs (what he seems to run).

I run that build fine, plenty of my guildies run that build fine, it is most likely that he has lack of pvp ‘awareness’, ‘tactics’ and isn’t working well with warrior mechanics.

To deny that is really not going to get us anywhere.

What Ghoust here needs to do most likely is watch some twitch streamers like ROM for general warrior usage and more specialised guides on youtube and teh interwebs, then practice.

The warrior just simply isn’t stifled as a class as much as the ranger or engi is for example. It isn’t hidden behind a gigantic skillwall for ‘good’ usage unlike the engi (for example) and isn’t poorly designed and consta-nerfed like the ranger.

I would like to add to this that Ghoust seems like a new player, his original post showed a vast lack of understanding of certain warr moves, e.g.

“7.Hammer – all hammer skills are to slow(evade, teleport, chill, fear,… wins)”

The hammer hasn’t had many changes and warriors have been happily using hammer successfully for over a year now. If you remember the Ham/Bow build you will know what I mean.

He also has no other forum posts prior to this, it does sound like he is still getting used to GW2, didn’t do so well with Warrior and has come on the forums to complain about it when it is likely the problem is on his end based on his description of the problems.

E.g. A player who knows how to play PvP well (not amazingly but just well) will know about LoS abuse to avoid being kited while holding a point.

This game is not, despite what many think, one where you can play any build and expect the same results. If something is too hard, find what you are lacking and work on it like any other game, or read a guide, change your build, or do all 3.

Plenty of people have solo’d Hidden Arcana multiple times (myself included), it is more a mechanic exercise and the mechanics are really simple.

Afaik the hardest bosses are easily damaged (including the last one) by concentrating on the vortexes, technically for the last boss you need no real dps power.

Hello and welcome to the GW2 PvP community!

In sPvP your actual gear level does not matter. All you need is in the PvP build tab (the helmet icon at the top of your screen when you enter The Heart of the Mists).

A good site with some builds is metabattle.com (this site also has build guides to the most popular ‘meta’ builds as well as links twitch accounts to those who play said build for you to watch and learn from).

Thieves typically are not a class in which to fight in the open with. You have many evades, blinds and stealth skills which are there to aid a thief.

A thief’s job will consist of quickly entering a fight, quickly getting off a powerful spike or burst of damage, stomp other downed opponents discreetly and roam around capturing easy to grab points.

If you wish to wade into battle and wreak havoc or rely less on sneaky glassy builds, or are having trouble winning 1v1 fights due to inexperience, try Warrior or other ‘tankier’ classes at first for a general awareness and experience.

Here are some vids for you;

Guide to Thief in general.

Guide to Dagger Pistol Thief, most popular Thief build in GW2 PvP atm.

I would also suggest to watch some battles on youtube from previous PvP tournaments, especially with thieves like Sizer (from the pvp group TCG). There is a lot to learn from them that can not be underestimated.

The main problem with dragonhunter.

Traps.

Whoever thought that Guard’s should have traps or be a ‘big game hunter’ should really take a look at themselves.

The likely lore link is Braham and Eir -.- Of all the things a guardian would take from a ranger, who the hell would take traps? Not even rangers take traps!

Would have worked if there were maybe a new type of shouty moves similar to bard/paragon stuff. Channeled Shouts maybe. Whoever made the Dragonhunter fumbled it imho.

Effectively they have made the invisible specialisation as not many will take it after the initial shiny has worn off unless there are big changes.

1. The spreading won’t work well for hitting only 1 target if you can as the guard inherently burns, so you would effectively be shutting off the guardian from EVER being able to do single target dps for encounters that rely on you ONLY hitting 1 target.

2. Burning isn’t that strong, proper cleansing and appropriate tactics deal with it nicely, if anything maybe it needs a tad tweak to the duration to stop astronomical stacks lasting too long but that is it.

Do something with this insane burning!!!

Funny thing. Last night I came up against a premade team of 5 guards, all burn guards, TWICE.

Ya know what happened? I went bunker guard, cleansed the team when appropriate and completely shut them down by doing that.

Yes burn does a lot of dmg if you aren’t smart, but most who cry about 10+ stacks after a cleanse typically are standing in the fire.

3 Stacks burning cap

When a thief can’t burst down most people within a second or 2, then I will listen about OP burns.

Too many flush their condi clears immediately when they get low burn stacks, it’s about understanding when to clear and other stuff. E.g. DON’T STAND IN THE KITTEN FIRE.

E.g. for guard; the torch burn skill is telegraphed and easy to dodge, judges intervention is predictable, purging flames is noticeable and a fire field, after those there isn’t really much threat from a burn guard. Also for the love of god DON’T CLEANSE AT 1-3 STACKS

Ele is basically a mobility game, don’t stand in the fire and you won’t get burned. Though an ele’s main abilities rely on it’s sustain, and has some decent damage, that will be nerfed soon so just bear with it for now.

Seriously, so many react to a load of condi’s with a “must clear!” reflex without a single thought for what skill they used (they may just reapply a load after you wasted all your cleanses) and what the duration is, as well as what the condi is. Typically skills that layer loads and loads of different condi’s have a low duration.

E.g. why waste a cleanse on 3 vuln stacks and a short duration cripple? People do though, and likely come onto the forums when a burn guard saunters in burning them to death after someone has blown all their CD’s over a staff kitten ing necro.

Dragonhunter Changes for Next BWE!

I would trade any of those changes for a fixed shield that isn’t a weak, buggy version of what Revenants are getting.

Abjured dominates EU in WTS gratz bois!!!!

Lol the amount of people who have posted on here taking this one WTS win as an example of US dominance….tbf it’s not like it is unexpected, it was only a matter of time.

Also I kinda agree the Ele needs to be toned down, it hasn’t been toned down properly for a long time, it’s likely to get worse when Tempest hits so Anet should get on that tout suite.

Current Class Tier List

Pyriel.4370

The relationship between classes is more symbiotic like the pokemon elemental system where one class may be weak in certain areas but exceed expectations in others. E.g. A well played d/p thief will lose to a well played medi guard. A well played Ele may lose to a well played Ranger.

Tiers would never work for this type of system, even 1v1. It would be more like a Chart.

Kits and Spear

Kits = ‘Chants’ where a new skill set is given depending on the chant (watered down tomes).

Spear/Lance because it suits the guard nicely.

Not likely to be fist weps purely because of it REALLY not suiting guard. Longbow works well in the sense of Paladins in other fantasy settings being able to use Longbows.

Also likely longbow is the viable ranged option that seems to suit and armored fighter over a pistol or rifle, that and the name Dragonhunter implies a hunter style aspect, of which the bow and arrow are iconic hunting weapons.

TL:DR

Paragon style.

Thief would be best for kits as I can imagine a warrior would get survival skills from ranger or maybe tricks/venoms from thief.

Seeing that the name is berserker, I would say daggers as they would fit the ‘barbarian’ style berserker aesthetic quite nicely.

Why don't sword and scepter have symbols?

in Guardian

Pyriel.4370

Smite should be a symbol though I suspect it would be a little OP as then it would also potentially have heals, increased size, increased dmg and burning application, vuln application and extra 10% dmg (once the trait comes back) when traited..not to mention unlike other offensive symols, you can place smite almost anywhere, as well as it having a 6 second cooldown.

I think smite is good where it is at the moment.

Renewed Focus Getting Interrupted?

Renewed Focus gets interrupted with wep swap too. Tested and confirmed this too.

Is that intentional?
