8v8 would be sweet.
Would bring some interesting team compositions.
Though that would likely mean a separate queue for Stronghold.
I think as 5v5 it can still work, though they should add in build templates and put courtyard and stronghold in the rotation for ranked but that is just my thing.
If they were going to increase the size for Stronghold though, I’m with the 8v8.

Turret engis are not easily killed as condi either, the turrets still ‘do their thing’ and it is situational for you to get out of their LoS while being able to still attack that engi. E.g. the rocket turret will still hit you unless you dodge every 4 seconds, never mind what else comes your way, you only have so many blocks etc before you are unable to condi down the engineer.
If there is a turret engi in the other pug you can kiss your match goodbye as they will likely camp mid and force you to play around it (which someone will always try and take the engi on thus lowering your numbers). If there is 2 engi turrets, don’t even bother in a pug -.- unless they are terrible, which usually isn’t the case when the AI carries them.
There are new problems too with stronghold. Engi turret builds are just camping the middle, as there is nowhere to ‘rotate’ out to when you need that resource. Any one build that can lockdown a point like that without breaking a sweat is too strong.
It is pointless saying ‘l2p’ as it is a problem that purely rewards sloppy play and punishes anyone who isn’t expert or specifically built to counter them and this has been a problem for a while for a lot of classes.
My english sucks.
A friend is translating for me at the moment.
Guys i’m here because i can’t understeand how this could have happened, i’m not playing Guild Wars 2 since 2 years ago and i don’t care if Arenanet added or not italian subtitles.
In Guild Wars 1 we had both subtitles and ubbing, they created a huge fanbase just to cut them off a little later (when GW2 was released) I’m also referring to the other countries who received the same treatment.
I mean guys ,how much could cost a full game translation?
Even if the cost was high, there were a lot of people who decided to translate the game for FREE…
At the beginning the work might be quite a lot, but once done i think just a single translator could be enough to tranlate the upcoming patches.
Ok they decided to not translate the game, but why in the world should you block independent translation? (an italian group did almost translate the full game)
Somebody said that the italian players are a few,and it’s probably true but somebody of you truly knows how many italians tried to play?
In italy there are 60 milions of citizens, we can’t talk about italian players because just Arenanet knows the true number.
Is it possible that the italian players are so an ignificant number that they can’t afford a translation? No game company develops for all languages, yet it seems a.net should be the one to do this, entitled much ! I would rather they put that extra effort into things that actually matter for the game, like builds templates…..
Guild wars is going on pretty good, but if you think you need to stare at 3D-models while the servers are getting empty, then i think that you better start paying for gems because after all the graphics are worth everything, right?
I’m sure this expansion will bring fantastic news, but i still believe that adding translations couldn’t hurt anyone, rather it would help players to reconsider the game.
I was waiting for an answer from somebody of the team, i really hope that some day someone will reopen this topic again and meditate about what’s happening.
English is surely important but it doesn’t have to be a requirment to play.
I will learn the english language ,even tough almost EVERY mmo that comes in europe gets an italian translation ,and this is another point to why I don’t have any reason anymore to play a game which doesn’t care about things like this. This is my last post, good game, i’m out.
Italian has 125 million speakers roughly. Spanish has over 540 million speakers. German has over 180 million speakers, French having over 390 million speakers and finally English having 1.2 billion speakers.
Italy simply doesn’t have a large enough player base that only speak Italian to cover the costs of translating the entire text to conversational Italian then inputting it into the code etc, especially if you are talking about hiring new voice actors and going down that process of scripting and recording.
Please also consider that Anet has around 270 employees atm, that is quite small for a company running a large MMO, especially when you include that most of those will be administration, secretarial, management, financial and non-creation related, thus they rely on outsourcing somewhat. Let’s not get into regional offices in Europe and China.
This would be possible with a larger company like Blizzard but Anet are still small. Bear that in mind.

It’s not broken. While it is incredibly quick with the event chain active, flame legion do spawn periodically which you can kill for credit.
It is broken, the respawn timers on those flame legion you mention is incredibly slow, no fire turrets or anything to make the event finish-able in a reasonable amount of time, i.e. if you relied on those respawns it would take half an hour to an hour, maybe more.
Favorite unlocked title: Veteran, simple, time gated by 2 years so not everyone has it.
If I could have any title: Flameseeker, ever since Prophecies I’ve always loved that title/name.
When I see the title: GWAMM I respect the player to a degree, it was difficult, not as difficult as people put across (you had plenty of guilds who were basically existing to grind it out). It is kinda like the same amount of work as building 3-4 Legendaries.
I dislike seeing the title Ultimate Chaperone because of how much work it needs and what the title ends up being so the person who earnt it is unfortunate to me….I mean…..c’mon…..all that to be called a Chaperone? Suppose it is better than Ultimate Escort…..
If I could make up a title: Category Mastery Titles -
“All things bright and beautiful” for maxing the Slayer achievement category.
“Well Rounded Educator” for maxing Weapon Master category.
“I’ll take your one Moby and raise you..” for maxing Bosses category.
“THAT guy/gal” for maxing Community category.
Can they not just re-enable it and up the token requirements to purchase certain things?
Or the searing cauldron that we could easily have used during the arah dungeon to basically clear a gigantic smoking path or even after against Scarlet, Nightmare Court, Inquest, Sons of Svanir, Flame Legion (oh the irony)….
Or even….god forbid…..maybe using that cauldron (or the other two just lying around in the world) against Mordremoth rather than doing a Com. Gordon and sending your entire army when you know literally NOTHING about the enemy apart from it makes a lot of plant monsters.
I think the design a weapon contest worked extremely well last time and it did foster some sort of community involvement. The weapons designed were amazing and some are still used in GW2 while others are sorely missed and should return in their own right (Check out Emerald Blade from Guild Wars 1).
If it ever was put in, I would love for these skins to be obtainable as weapons in game, the ticket sets are probably holding weapons back because you have to wait for an entire set to be signed off before one weapon gets released, the Chaos set is a prime example of where originally the Chaos Axe became a set, thus we probably waited longer because we had to wait for the set to be designed etc. It would also truly suck if unique weapon skins ended up only released on the gem store or via tickets (which is primarily gemstore).
What would be good in general for implementing any skins from such a contest is not waiting for a set and maybe putting them in world boss chests or crafting etc. We don’t have to have an entire set.
(edited by Pyriel.4370)
Bump, this deserves attention!
If the old design-a-weapon contest was anything to go by, oversized greatswords would be rare, the previous designs were amazingly detailed and thoughtful. Seriously, check them out on the GW1 wiki.

These are the current GW2 skins based off some of the winning contest entries.
There are plenty more designs used in GW1 that would be amazing if they were brought into GW2 though, I want my Emerald Blade back!

This post made my day ^^
Simply put, Anet cannot be expected to know every tragedy that happens in regards to small local accidents but this one was blatantly in the news and it is insensitive to Europeans.
Is it so hard to admit the plane thing is a bit in bad taste or a little too soon?
Would this have happened after 9/11? Probably not. It would have been insensitive.
In other words, it’s only insensitive if it gets a lot of publicity and it’s in the first world? Those deaths in “the small local accidents” which killed as many people but were only briefly mentioned because they were further away from the big new media don’t need to be considered? Why shouldn’t ANet have people keeping tabs on all disasters around the globe, no matter how remote, to make sure their prank doesn’t have a small aspect to it that reminds someone about it?
I am not measuring on toll or anything like that.
I am just stating that it isn’t something that was just in the local papers and it is still a ‘touchy’ subject regarding the fallout in Europe.
A little more responsibility could be shown that is all I am saying.
I edited my comment and added something to this effect:
Would this have happened a few days after 9/11? Probably not. It would have been insensitive.
Or would it have been fine because people die everyday? :/
I am rather certain that they would still have gone ahead with it. Seeing as the prank have a grand total of nothing at all to do with planes crashing into buildings.
You probably don’t remember much about just after it, nothing even remotely related to plane jokes would be in good taste for a few years after it media wise.
It seems you and I just disagree, which is fine.
Simply put, Anet cannot be expected to know every tragedy that happens in regards to small local accidents but this one was blatantly in the news and it is insensitive to Europeans.
So suddenly because car accidents happen it is fine to be insensitive towards Europeans who might be affected by the plane crash and subsequent witch hunt over depressed people.
Is it so hard to admit the plane thing is a bit in bad taste or a little too soon?
But what about those people getting shot at basically EVERY SINGLE DAY? Isn’t it in that case also bad taste to have guns in the game?
Or the cities being bombed around the time Scarlet destroyed Lion’s Arch?
A tragedy is a tragedy no matter how much or how little it is talked about on the news. The fact that the news care more about certain type of tragedies than others doesn’t mean those tragedies are worse.

Could they not have changed the headgear to goggles and made everyone look like they are driving a car? the sound effects would have made sense still and they would have avoided a sensitive issue in the news.
Oh, but what about all those people that have died on car-crashes the last few weeks then?
There was a rather large one here in Sweden quite recently. Wouldn’t that also be unfitting in that case?
I know it sounds bad but car crashes are no way near as sensitive to the international public. All I said was it is in bad taste and offered a simple alternative anyway.
Easiest way to put it is ‘too soon Anet’.
It was funny but in bad taste considering Germany’s recent crash.
C’mon Anet, you shoulda known better.
This event was planned and developed for months. It is not something they decided to do a week ago.
There are always things that happens around the globe. Does that mean they should never be allowed to release anything?

Bare in mind that they have a ton of story material that can facilitate many classes, going way past even the Elder Dragons, they originally were going to have angels/demons as the antagonists (according to the Making of Guild Wars 2 book). So there is plenty of scope for more professions, races etc.
I would prefer they don’t constantly add new professions for the sake of it. I wouldn’t mind a race next to flesh out more story. Though a new profession if we ever go to cantha/elona would be nice.
Seriously? Again? This topic has been beaten to death over and over.

Either way, the problem with WvW isn’t to do with legendary scavenger mechanics, it’s to do with the attention it requires to function effectively, like actual new content similar to what PvE gets. Though PvP has been largely neglected content wise over all.
Nonsense. Talk like that got us Edge of the Mists.
WvW is fine ’cept for the transferring.
The map completion was great ‘cause it got PvE folk to integrate somewhat with the WvW folk. It got you a more sense of community rather than pretend you’re in your own world apart from your server (though after megaserver, who in PvE even cares about what WvW server you’re on? What sense of community is there that PvE folk on Server A have any community with the WvW folk on server A?)
People on maps not zergin with the commander but doin jump puzzles or completin PvE objectives are great. They’re not killin WvW, empty maps are killing WvW (now emptier still!).
I didn’t mean more content in terms of maps, I meant more WvW content to draw people to it, like new siege weps, new aspects, refining of the current aspects, rather than force PvErs to play WvW for world completion. In regards to ‘similar to what PvE gets’, I meant in terms of the attention that PvE gets.
Map completion wasn’t all sunshine and daisies, plenty of PvE players hated having to do it in WvW while getting ganked.
There is one thing for sure in the WvW forum, for some people you are kitten ed if you do, kitten ed if you don’t.
I usually play PvE and sPvP but I did dabble a lot in WvW. The problems that steer me away are more to do with the map being full of people not intending to actually play WvW as they are just there mapping.
Tbf there is already an aspect of legendaries that are WvW based, the Gift of Battle, and no doubt the new legendaries will likely have another WvW based Gift. So why world completion was part of it anyway was beyond me, considering it is also 2 different maps but you have to do one map 3 times over and most of the time wait for your server to rotate to that borderland.
The WvW community also complained about “PvEers” mapping and not actually contributing in WvW.
Either way, the problem with WvW isn’t to do with legendary scavenger mechanics, it’s to do with the attention it requires to function effectively, like actual new content similar to what PvE gets. Though PvP has been largely neglected content wise over all.
The problem is, especially with the Europe, is the large amount of legal differences within said continent due to states or countries. There are so many variances in law regarding age in regards to parental responsibility, wages, legal rights, drinking, driving, travelling, health and safety, insurance, courts, age of consent etc etc etc
The only real constant is the age of 18 being seen as pretty much an adult where you get a majority of legal restrictions on your life lifted.
So to open up the WTS for u18s, it would be a legal and logistical nightmare.

Seems like the revenant and the new boon, resistance, is the hard counter to rangers and condi builds in pvp.
no his post legit. please dont accuse ppl pyriel. lets keep civil okays?
I am, don’t worry.
I was confused as banning ‘casual players’ from halls of the mists seemed so over the top, so I could not tell if it was sarcasm or honesty.
like you knowalot of the class skills are easy to pull off and do lotsa dmg
like if it involved more set up n timing would that anger the average frat boy?
pls give good feedback
Yes it does.
What i suggest is to prevent casual players entering hotm altogether. Only if you have 10k+ ranked/team arena games and play a full zerker non-meta spec should you be allowed to pvp in this game. Otherwise the balance is all kittened up and it ruins the gaming pleasure from true hardcore elite players who can actually play.
I totally agree with you bro!
Sarcasm? Poe’s law seems to apply here.
AH builds more for a group where ultimate deepz isn’t a big thing or more than comfortably surviving the dungeon with a friendly run (usually non-hardcore guilds). So they are not quite ‘out of favour’.
The most successful ‘hybrid’ at the moment is the following;
(edited by Pyriel.4370)
so a topic about map selection has been hijacked into what is pve and pvp and glorified chest beating? -.- take it elsewhere.
Anyway to drag this thread kicking and screaming back to the original point.
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Guardian_-_Meditation_Hammer
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Guardian_-_Meditation_DPS_Variant
These have nice survivability and decent dmg.
I run bunker guard with the typical AH shout staff + mace/focus and I am quite successful as a bunker while also being able to 1v1 a meditation guardian, some thieves, hambow/eviscerate warriors, some mesmers and some necros (even though it isn’t my purpose).
It is all about timing, timing your mace block, your focus, placement of your symbols, outlasting, clearing priority conditions, knowing when to heal and not to heal etc etc etc
The only classes I have trouble with are Rangers and Engis, usually engi because of turrets (though I am learning to last longer for my team members to come and back up), rangers typically seem to spam 2 and 5 from a ledge, maybe the knockback too, I typically know that my time on that point is limited and either rally some help or abuse LoS by moving off the point (dependent on map).
Guards are not out of it yet bunker wise as, depending on classes, a decent guard can hold out 2v1 almost indefinitely, 3v1 for long enough for reinforcements. Engineers and Eles are limited in their survival options and can be taken care of much quicker with decent team organisation.
On top of all that, if a Guardian does it’s job properly, they should be supporting strongly and helping with stomps, while using what dmg they have to give to aid in pressure.
No bunker is immune to everything, however the Guardian is still a strong bunker profession with a lot to bring to the table if played properly.
(edited by Pyriel.4370)
I’m just hoping that the amount of insta-80 revenants doesn’t cause bad rep through inexperience with the class for dungeons/pvp/wvw.
As it stands for me, I’m going for mapping the starter zone to level 10, then bday scroll to 20, use every wep combination for 2-3 levels while mapping, at the end of every map I will tome to the nearest 5, e.g. if I am level 32, I will tome to 35, or if I am 36, I will tome to 40. Settle on 2 different weapon combinations at 60 (condi/zerk for example) and level to 80.
Though I will be sinking all my skill scrolls into the Revenant, cba with the trait scavenger hunt.
Tasty tears. Mhhh.
Seriously though, there’s nothing dishonest about any of this. The base game is B2P. So is the additional content, as it is with every other game ever. Only Anet is nice enough to make it free for active players who bother to log in ONCE for ONE SECOND during those two weeks. Can’t bother with that? Don’t complain it ain’t free anymore.
FFXIV let`s me play 1 year old content. WoW let`s me play 8 years old content. RO let`s me play 10 years old content. TSW let`s me play 3 years old content. There you have sub-based, B2P and F2P examples. And is like this in pretty much ALL MMO`s on the market.
You know what they do? they might or not charge you for TIME (sub-based) or FUTURE content (B2P-F2P). but they don`t charge you OLD content. I don`t know how i have to explain this in the year 2015 lol.
Worse, they already locked out all new players of the MAIN narrative of the game for pretty much one year. Is like buying a regular game, but since one year passed, you have to start halfway into the argument. Second, you already bought the game, but you have now to pay for the 90% of the remaining argument because you TOOK TOO LONG TO BUY IT. Imagine starting metal gear solid at the Rex boss fight LOL, you can`t play half disc 1 and you have to buy 90% of the disc 2 to properly understand why you are fighting Rex, which you even after paying will not know cause you can`t play like 40% of the game anyway. Sound smart? no, because, lol no, thats not how you do games. LOL.
New players right now go like:
-personal story
-BIG SPACE OF EMPTYNESS BECAUSE YOU DIDN`T BOUGHT THE GAME ON TIME OR LOGED IN IN TWO YEARS, THE SCOURGE OF THE UNFAITHFUL!
-hey nice to see you again! remember the things we did? no? well, nvm, pay to play them even if you already payed for them and try to guess what happend, maybe look for youtube videos. And don`t even mention buying chepters with gold transactions per gems, cause i have dirty 20 gold which i can`t even buy half the gems i need for 1 of the 7 episodes me and my friends are missing, not to mention this shouldn`t even be a thing in the first place.
Wow is subscription and has plenty of content that is null and void. FFXIV is subscription too. RO only recently went F2P (at a cost if you use F2P servers).
You are literally complaining because you messed up. The model for the new season 2 content in terms of unlocking was unveiled before it even took place, a little bit of reading would have solved that for you. If you can log onto the forums and cry with essay posts, you could easily have found a minute during a TWO WEEK BRACKET to log in and log out.
ATM it is around 30g per episode. Not that hard to get.
What people got for $10 was the same as whoever paid full price.
You can still access the new areas and new events, as well as the swathes of updates and features added since launch. You just don’t get story episodes.
What you are saying in terms of WoW equivalence is;
“OMG I just bought wow and why can I not do the pre-expansion patch content?! Also why can I not use the old talent trees? I want a hunter with mana kitten! Why can’t I do old achievements for easy titles? I want to play in old Barrens! Why can’t I play the old dungeons?! I want to get the old Battleground titles and armor! I want to go to the old areas before they changed stuff! I bought the game kitten I have a right to old content/locked content! How dare the game move on without me!”
In terms of new players, yeh thats a problem, but I can imagine the community and Anet are looking at that. Who knows, the seasons might be bundled in with the expansion. No reason to act like a child though.
I’m thinking that the Revenant may fill the link in terms of weapon swapping for Soldiers. Each other profession type has one profession who cannot weapon swap, they get their variety of moves via attunements or kits.
What is likely is that the Revenant will not have a large weapon pool, and will use the ‘channels’ to influence their weapon skills, similar to an Engi or Ele.
If pistols can’t be considered as magical weapons, please explain the Mesmer’s offhand pistol.
One skill summons an illusion that fires two magic pistols.
And the other fires a magic bullet.
Thematically Pistols will not work, Mesmers come across as ‘dandy’/lovable rogue magicians, even their typical attire is thematically in synch with firearms. Guardians are based off Chevaliers/Knights thematically speaking, firearms just don’t suit them in the slightest.
I reckon a Longbow more than suits a guard, considering the guardian summons a spirit bow (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bow_of_Truth).
I still think a Templar specialisation would be good, make use of shield, maybe update mace with a few more abilities (though mace is sweet atm), get longbow, larger health pool with less healing/buffing, kinda like ‘Guardian-Lite’. The warrior will undoubtedly go more like a Beserker/Barbarian specialisation rather than going down the Phalanx route.
Norn or Human, Norn because I can reach a Greek/Norse Zeus/Odin look which would look so cool with Revenant abilities. Human because of the Dervish/Ritualist aspect, so an exotic approach based on GW1 styles of Weapons and Armor in terms of Cantha and Elona.
Lol, the expansion isn’t out and people are already complaining. Seriously those flying drones could be one shottable for all you know.
Pretty sure this thread is half-serious, not entirely serious, don’t worry.
Ranger is the worst class in gw2. Our skills and F2 kitten abilities are nothing compared to other classes. We asked more survival skills..more mobilty..better F2 skilss…usefull pets..but nothing arrived. Don’ t exepct too much for ranger in the next expansion..we all we’ll be ultra disappointed I’m sure
Tell that to rangers who win PvP by pressing 2 from a ledge whenever it is off cooldown. They aren’t exactly in a bad place.
When I told the Engi in my guild that he would be able to use a hammer and have flying turrets there was silence……then to my horror…..the most maniacal, hysterical laughing ever….it was like the moment a comic book character looses their mind and becomes a villain….I fear for us.
Griffon pet is definitely something I would support for rangers.
watch the pax event and there are some kitten good reasons not to increase the level cap given by Mike O’Brian.
Druids also worshipped nature, something which the Rangers have a tight grasp over too, hence taming pets and having access to nature based attacks, thematically matching them with druids, especially with the nature spirits that rangers summon and the whole branch of skills under the name ‘Nature Magic’, also if I recall the Rangers placed strong emphasis on Melandru in GW1, your first potential pet was a Melandru’s Stalker from the quest that taught you how to get a pet.
Rangers and Dervish in GW are easily described as thus, Rangers keep their attention to the earth and nature, Dervish keep their attention to the heavens (similar to their real life Whirling Dervish counterparts).
In terms of flowy clothing, that can apply to all medium and light armoured classes, especially looking at the Human Tier 3 Cultural Light Armor (which has very Dervish-esque attachments to the lower garments).
It’s not so far fetched at all for the druid to match the ranger when you look around the bow. The druids themselves placed heavy emphasis on nature, wood spirits and magic, most of which the rangers utilise in skills within GW2.
Also if every class has access to all specialisations, it ruins a lot of uniqueness about running said class. Plus we do not know how far the specialisations go in terms of changing mechanics, it may be like a new class entirely, it may be a few extra skills/traits, it may be something in the middle. It wouldn’t make much sense for a Necromancer/Mesmer/Guardian/Warrior/Engineer/Thief to turn into a Druid if it was a lore based ‘specialisation’.

Already a question up for that.
I run a Ranger.
What if a specification called Dervish is run only with a Mesmer or a Guardian.
This would be a sad sad day for me as Derv is my main from GW’s 1 and it is the only profession I want to use more than Ranger. (And I really like my Ranger)
Anet your scaring me please don’t make Dervish anothers Specification. It belongs to the Ranger. (Not trying to be entitled or anything just saying is all).
Also I think that you should make all Specifications available to all professions (at least eventually) So we can choose what way we wish to go. That’s true choice.
The dervish if anything belongs to the newly created Revenant, as that class has the flavour and similar mechanics to dervish avatars as well as ritualist magic.
The ranger has always been a class of it’s own since Guild Wars 1. The Dervish has nothing to do with the ranger in any sense. The Dervish is monk-like and always communes with the human gods, the ranger has a pet and works with nature specifically. The Dervish had high armor and melee ranged attacks with the scythe, the Ranger….well is ranged, and has medium armor.
If they make the Dervish available on another class (the ranger has the druid specialisation) and you want to play a Dervish, then re-roll. You shouldn’t limit yourself to running only one class anyway, your cutting off a load of interesting game mechanics and fun.
(edited by Pyriel.4370)
Who cares about a new race really? In terms of new character stuff we get is at least 1 new specialisation for each profession and one completely new profession. The specialisations will change how the profession plays, effectively making 9 new profession as well as the Revenant.
With a new race you get a new starter area and a different cosmetic look, maybe some racial skills. I would rather new profession anytime. Besides, no race has been mentioned outside of community speculation so the community hyped itself up over a race that was never on the cards to begin with for this expansion.
Also it is not like the normal updates won’t continue, they haven’t abandoned living story and the feature updates.
Adelbern, and use him to run ascalonian catacombs!!! Mwahahahaha
Maybe a Templar – making the shield worth using in pve and pvp as well as a longbow option
Just sayin about the channeling older characters for changing mechanics on moves……called it :P
Thanks for the answers guys n gals btw good to know I am not the only one.
