Open world
- Firearms: 3-3-2. Alchemy: 2-2-1. Holo: 2-2-2
- Gear: full commander(for now) runes of durability to max boon duration
- Weapons: Sword/sheild
- Utility: Elixir H, Elixir B, Elixir U, EG/Exceed blades/arena(for TB)holo elite

- I want boon myself as much as possible. Thanks to elixirs I can hold 7perma boons (might,regen,swift,protect,fury,quick,retal) -which mean 14% dmg boost from firearms trait. Firearms give me also 20% crit chance from traits. Alchemy give me tanky and boon duration – and needed swiftness uptime.

Pvp:
- same like scrapper only change can be marauder amulet. EG is still pretty good stunbreak and unblockable aoe. Bulwark changes for exceed stunbrake and purgy for elixir B (tossing stability). But they can make changes untill release so this is only funny theory craft.

Holy kitten lol… Do you even need hgh with the might gen over 100 heat trait? I want to try this now lol.

So from this most recent stress test I have to say full zerker felt really good. But no DPS meter/test golem so I have no real comparison to draw.

I’ve been toying today with:
Tools 2-2-2,
Elixirs 1-2-1,
Holo 2-2-1,
with Celestial gear. Thanks to Tools grandmaster (endurance regeneration) and Elixirs adept+Holo Leap (gain vigor with upon gaining swiftness + spammable swiftness), we have very high endurance regeneration (I’ve been also using Energy Sigil), so we can proc a lot of burns from Holo grandmaster. This also keeps our heat on resonable level. I didn’t find the damage satisfying enough tho, also it’s very risky to spam dodges mindlessly. I love Spectrum Shield as utility.

I’ve been watching some streamer on Twitch play the double static discharge OP mentioned, the damage spam was just crazy. I’ll be definitely trying it out in small scale WvW.

You could just get the endurance boon from tool belt usage (minor tools) and take explosives for mine trail for more damage on rolls!

I’ve been having a ton of fun running:
Explosives: 3-1-2
Tools: 1-3-1
Holo: 3-1-2

Heal Turret, Rocket Boots, Rifle Turret, Photon Wall

The tool belt skills for Turret and Wall work great with static discharge, the lower CD on tool belt skills (this includes swapping out of forge) feels great overall. It let’s you get back into forge faster knowing you can drop out sooner knowing you won’t overheat.

Rocket Boots I’ve been swapping in and out with the new stun break. I just really enjoy rocket boots with 2 charges now.

And explosives helps you put out some great ranged damage while kiting with Forge 1 (Traited) and using 3 and 4 when off cd. Really excited for this at full release. What has everyone else been running?

If you want 2 of the same then you need to either have 2 of the same precursor drop or buy them off the TP. The old ones are still available to get for 2 of the same.

Hello,

Now that these new legendaries are obtained through collections this means they can only be obtained once as far as I understand. Also they aren’t tradeable and won’t have any direct effect on the market. Does this mean if I want two of the same new legendary I am forced to create Quip and reskin it? Or is Anet going to implement something where if you make it once you can mass produce it like the Achievement skins?

Mind sharing a build… I usually forget e-gun is even a thing.

Mine was included in the first post to respond to you, but I will provide it again. Currently I am running what I call Tank n’ Spank (click me!). The first utility is highly adaptable and can be switched for pretty much anything you need. I think E-Gun is pretty essential for any party based build, especially if you combine it with a Gyro appropriate for the situation you intend to face.

I’ve found that, in terms of kits which synergize well with hammer, elixir gun works quite well. With streamlined kits, it provides the immob, which is easy to land when you’re in melee with hammer.

This is where I’m conflicted. Now that we have a Lightning Field, the swiftness from Streamlined Kits is essentially Obsolete. There is no need to waste a trait line for Swiftness when it is readily available on demand. Utilizing double Orbital Strike + Acid Bomb + Pack Runes= Permanent Swiftness. I will gladly use 4 skills every minute or so to gain IMS if it means I free up an entire Trait Line for more adaptive play.

Mind sharing a build… I usually forget e-gun is even a thing.

After messing around with Scrapper a ton in open world I’ve made a ton of notes on how different builds were working out for me. I am running full ascended armor and full ascended trinkets. Legendary Hammer. Using a mix of Soldier’s + Berserker’s.

Notes
Taking High Caliber and No Scope (Firearms) works well. Maintain 20% – 40% increased crit chance.

Instead running Heavy armor Exploit (Firearms) with Invigorating Speed (Alchemy) works very well with Scrapper. Yields a 10% – 30% increased crit chance and 100% uptime on swiftness/vigor in combat.

Running the obvious Juggernaut (Firearms) + Mass Momentum (Scrapper) combo builds might quickly between fights. The hammer Auto Attack is great at keeping up might in combat.

Alternatively running Expert Examination (Scrapper) gets you some easy Vuln on openers, and not hard to maintain with a second lightning field.

I hate running without Streamlined Kits (Tools).

Bunker Down (Inventions) works out really well since you are in melee most of the time hitting with the mines and picking up the med kits comes very naturally.

I love Sneak Gyro in PvP. This thing has to be the biggest troll to other players. If I jump off a cliff it totally screws with other people and gives me a good escape. It has such a short CD I feel like I can enter stealth so much that I might as well be a Thief or Mesmer. It feels good hitting something with 2, blocking with 4, then re-entering stealth and waiting for other CDs. Also it grants access to revealed without having Lock On (Tools). In PvE I usually just swap it with Crate.

Running Shredder Gyro literally for the Toolbelt skill. Having 2 Lightning Field lines up well with your 3 skill providing a ton of daze (And Vuln while traited) for PvE Breakbars and PvP control.

Kits feel extremely awkward with Scrapper. The only kit I tend to run is Flamethrower with Juggernaut (Firearms). I usually run Expert Examination (Scrapper) even while running this. The utility of the Flamethrower is great and landing a double hit with 2 > 2 works.

I love Hammer 2.
I really LOVE Hammer 2.

Really the hammer. It feels very fulfilling offering Damage avoidance using skills 2, 3, and 4 while retaining decent, certainly not the best, but decent output.

Current Build

I often trade Flamethrower for Elixir U for the Stunbreak and swap Juggernaut for modified Ammo. I think if I was better with Flamethrower you could almost use it as a Stunbreak.

I have to say, I miss the exploration swiftness from Streamlined Kits but I feel like between Elixir B and the swiftness that builds with Heavy Armor Exploit, I will live. Haven’t decided on a Rune Set. Haven’t Decided on Sigils.

I am still messing around with builds and would love to see what other people have been working on.

Not at home but I recommend a lot of metallic parts on your armor.

I am using a human female/sylvari. The armor pieces I use are:

Scrapper Helm
Magitech Shoulders
Glorious Chest
Magitech Gloves
Glorious Legs
Human Cultural Tier 2 Boots / Vigil Boots

Using a Darkish Silver/Celestial theme to match the hammer

Will look SICK with the legendary backpack whenever/however you craft that thing.

What happened with “build how we want” ?

It was never “Build how you want”…

It was more every proff has access to a wide variety of builds: Melee, ranged, direct damage, condition damage, and utility are all different categories of builds. All classes have access to some form of each.

This is not the same thing as choose any traits you want and you will be good.

i kinda have the problem that the shredder gyro never seems to be able to apply burning bolts in a fire field – is that bugged or not supposed to work?

i mostly run with the boring old knights-flamethrower-elixir-might build…. but it works well and you hardly ever die…but your damage isnt huge…

now due to the might stacking i ran for now the same build – but could exchange the elixirs for some gyro (the bulwark for example) which makes me even more defensive :-)

I take shred gyro for the tool-belt skill… lol… so I haven’t really noticed too many problems with the gyro itself (other than it is terrible).

You dont need any… “communication”. You can kill all those champs just with 2 random man (or even alone but it’s a bit harder and longer). Guilds just makes it’s slower, because you must organize guild mates first.

Just we have few HUGE problems before killing.
1) you must spend a lot of time for farming “specializations”.
2) you must find it (it means you must spend a lot of time for a stupid jumping puzless). For now map chat are full of cry, like: “i hate this map”, “i dont like JP”, why i cant find it" etc And i can understand it. Because I HATE JUMPING PUZZLES TOO! never liked it. (sure.. i know some ppl like JP. but 90% – not and this ppl must have choice!!)

It’s a first game where ppl cant got new skills (which they bought for a good money) because they must doing jumping puzzles for this… It’s just a complete nonsense.

In the end we have toons of grind, and stupid mechanics!! Nothin to be glad about.

You seem to dislike a lot of what the game/mmos are about.

Yes, despite a few minor grumbles and being able to empathise towards some of the complaints (maps lacking coherency and elites not being unlockable as easily as they should be) I am thoroughly enjoying the expac.

It is a shame so many spoilers are flying around the forum, including a big reveal from a dev who didn’t think it was important to spoiler tag their post, however it’s just a good excuse not to visit these forums as much..

That sucks about the Anet poster but I felt the maps were pretty easy to navigate considering how hard a layered map like this one could have been to make, this was done pretty well.

I don’t get the ‘Hard to unlock elite’ complaint tho. I mean it took me less than a day, (I worked regular hours on Friday, started playing Friday when I got home). And it wasn’t a grind or anything hard… Talking to people in map/guild and exploration…

I kinda get the “so many alts to do it on” thing but… I think that’s the kind of thing you have to assume is coming your way playing so many characters… At least masteries share between your account…

Now that I’m at work and taking a break from playing the game I would like to say thank you for the experience here.

I feel like there is a lot to work toward and I am fairly excited about it. I worked fiercely toward my full scrapper unlock to get my helm and got it pretty quick (got it saturday morning) and had a blast discovering everything I did.

I was glad to see hero points / moments that simply couldn’t be soloed and required some guild/map communication to get at least one or two people to help you out. It made the experience feel more real and enjoyed it more because of it.

I know there is a lot of hate floating around right now but I’ve been enjoying pretty much everything… Even the things I thought I was going to hate.

Thanks again for the expansion and experience. It has been a great rainy weekend because of it.

I made the predator months ago and i’ll do after halloween/maguuma my h.o.p.e. because both are so engi-ish.
I’m on hold for jugger and flameseeker because imho they do not fit nicely the engi theme, so i’ll wait for gen 2.0 before any move :P

Hey man, I have got Juggernaut and predator for my scrapper, and HOPE will be my first G2 legendary to work for.
Normal Celestrial build with zerker predator- wvw roaming
Scrapper celestial build with zerker stats Juggernaut- wvw front line and pve HOT mapping
Full Sinister condi double HOPE- PVE Raids and fractals

Thief?? Mehhh, no chance to compete engi class why invest him?

Because I like to pvp but Pistol pvp makes me sad cause there are going to be so many necros that hard counter pistol pvp.

Stealth gyro in a nut shell

It is instant on a 30 sec cooldown, great for stomping, ressing or avoiding damage when you are CCed. It probably won’t be used like a Gyro, but that is the only way gyros can be usefull at the moment.

Also, have 2 scrappers and they will probably stealth eachother. 4 scrappers and they can cover eachothers downtime. It probably have a target cap of 5, so that would be your whole perma stealth group.

I am not trying to say its bad but, it really doesn’t have a place. Between Elixir S, Elixir S: Tool-belt, and Function Gyro, Stomping and Resurrecting is covered. I really would rather not go into detail before trying it out but…

Initial thoughts on all the gyros is “Pretty Bad”.

Will Med Kit get a buff in HoT?

It literally just got a skill re-haul.

There is an upcoming trait from Scrapper that will make it Interesting.

Recovery Matrix: Using your heal skill will temporarily reduce damage you receive. (This grants protection for 5s).

IT HAS NO LISTED INTERNAL CD.

Med-Kit + Recovery Matrix = 100% Protection up-time.

May it be noted that you miss out on the other traits in this tier: Stability for your function Gyro and Super-speed on Blast/Leap on Lightning Fields.

as someone who doesn’t PvP or WvW, I’m underwhelmed as hell.

the big profession mechanic is utterly useless in PvE unless there is someone dying nearby, and the elite is purely a PvP ability considering how insanely situational stealth is in PvE for non-thieves.

consider that for the elite mechanic revenants get a new legend, necros get a new death shroud, mesmers get to save-scum, and thieves get a third dodge, the ability to rez/finish someone at range is so situational outside of PvP that unless HoT adds a LOT of finishable enemies like the toxic alliance, it may as well not exist.

Pure Curiosity: What do you do in this game if you don’t sPvP or WvW. There isn’t a ton of PvE content past dungeons, world events, and world exploration.

exploration, dungeons, events, jumping puzzles, general aimless wandering while gathering, achievement hunting, story and lorehunting, alts, and if I get REALLY bored, the farming in drytop and silverwastes.

Nice… I guess I just feel like I devoured the PvE side without really being a PvE player. Then again I really don’t like making alts. That may be a big part of it.

Random thoughts:

  • Function gyro actually seems pretty interesting. Also, what if the people you’re about to stomp/res move/get moved? Will it attempt a second res/finish?
  • Still not sure if gyros are affected by attacks or not (old spirit weapons), does fuel get depleted by moving/TB skills or just over time?
  • Can’t help but notice that gyros are turrets on steroids.
  • Traits definitely make engi a more potent melee, though I’m a bit worried about how it’ll do vs kiters.
  • Detection puls will be hated.
  • Synergy with “not 100% Scrapper playstyles” seems a bit meh, would be nice to have a lightning field outside of Scrapper and let Expert Examination trigger on KBs/launch since engi CC mainly consists of these.

- It sounds like Fuel is just a RP way of saying “Your gyro has a timer.”
- The Thunderclap + Rocket-charge seems like an insane combo. Add on Superspeed and Swiftness. Not really worried about getting kited.
- “Detection puls” If you are talking about the tool belt on the stealth gyro I am pretty excited about it. Depending on how it works you may be able to directly counter shadow refuge. Or throw it on top of a capture point for effective zoning. OR maybe it will drop thief population.
- Largest obvious synergy is FT + Juggernaut interaction with Scrapper Traits. I am sure more will show up over time.

Looks like Scrapper traits just made FT a whole lot more powerful.

When these traits combine…

I forsee Engineer Bunkers being the new thing.

I’m eager to learn how the fuel system works. I hope we can have a maximum amount of 3 gyros like Herald’s facets uptime.

It really just sounds like they gave them a timer (Fuel) as a replacement to being destructible.

ANet knows they couldn’t just be mobile turrets. Everyone would rage.

I have spent over 5k gold for my engineers hammer.. I made an ascended zerk hammer for off builds I made the juggernaut just for the stat swapping and I bought mjolnir to cover the juggernaut skin I am ready.

Man I get the mjolnir hype but…

Legendary effects…

Sadly I am also thinking of rerolling, I think female armor options provide better ‘metal mario’ form visuals.

Or maybe even Asura.

Srs… too many people on here saying Engi is bad and needs rework/buffs.

What game mode do you play in? How hardcore? Does your guild support your decision to play Engineer? How did you convince them?

Anyone can come onto a forum and state their opinion of a class, but for said opinion to be valid in any way, we need facts to back it up. So how is your opinion of Engi being “fine” and not needing any reworks aside from aesthetics validated?

It sort of sucks you’re telling someone their opinion isn’t valid and has to be proved. Dude, it’s an opinion. Although it wasn’t my post you ripped apart, here’s what I think…

I don’t think fine means no changes needed whatsoever everything is perfect. That’s a strawman argument to try and suggest OP is saying that. It just doesn’t have to be that black and white. Engi overall is in a pretty good place I think. It performs very well in PvP and PvE. I don’t WvW too much, and I know there are concerns regarding its zerg capability but Engis still make great roamers.

He stated it as fact, thus it became more than just an opinion “Is fine.” His final statement, that we’re all just complaining about Engi needing buffs/reworks further confirms that he doesn’t think it needs anything done to it, but he went into no detail about why he thinks this. While I agree we make great roamers due to our crazy ability to stack burns and survive 1vX(depending), it performs “okay” in PvP, though many of the top teams don’t bother with it, and WvW zerg combat is 90% of WvW, so being left out of 90% of some of the most entertaining combat in GW2 hurts. While we bring the MOST utility in the game compared to any other class, none of it is unique. You’re mediocre at best in comparison to the other classes and can almost guarantee you won’t be invited to any higher end GvG’s or WvW raids due to that proven fact. Outside of pick teams in a GvG(which is still sub par because magnet pull is very RNG), you’re stuck roaming or running around with pugmanders and uplevels.

Back during the first and second year of the game I played a lot. I have not played nearly as much recently as I lost interest and have recently got back into it.

Currently I have been a filthy Casual.

But when engineer was “At its worst”:

I was top 50 on leaderboards in sPvP, Doing 40+ Fractals with my guild, Doing WvW with my guild.

(This was when Blackgate was fighting hard in WvW I have no idea its current status.)

Yes, there will always be problems. But after seeing the changes engineer is in a really good place and we really don’t have a place to ask for any buffs when other classes are suffering more.

Convinced my guild to take me places and play with me by consistently out preforming others in guild with more specified rolls.

EDIT: Right now I seriously hate the most about our class: Losing legendary effects when using a kit.

I am kidding myself thinking that a 5 util no kit build will be possible after HoT drops.

And if I asked for a viable no kit build from anet just to because ‘I dun like kits’ chances would be 0.

So might as well ask for what I really want.

But in the end, it is a team game, and playing to synergize with your team is the best way to cover your weaknesses. Its hard for me to run condi cleanse in certain builds so I get a guard to follow me around. Again, I really don’t see the need to buff our class right now. Yes there are issues. But others need more attention imo.

[EDIT] OMG UPDATE – DRONES LOOK PRETTY SICK. Depending on the uptime of certain traits I feel like we might be tanky enough to drop tool kit. We lose out on magnet but lets face it… That skill has the biggest tell anyway. Toolbelt on Cleanse Drone gives us access to Psn field. I see big potential here. NO KIT BUILD POSSIBLE??? EXCITE. Fix Interaction between kits and legendary weapon effects and I will be happy. Unless 5 drone build is viable. Then I will take that and be happy.
