it’s not in that bad of a position, but it’s far weaker as a standalone weapon now as it takes way less skill/timing/whatever for most new abilities in the game. Overcharged is still the strongest skill on the weapon, I would argue that it needs a buff to blunderbuss cast time or net shot travel speed to bring it in line with current HoT power creep. I don’t think it needs an entire rework.

It sounds like you want as little responsibility as possible out of your raid group. If you can’t adapt to a single mechanic in a single fight, it’s no one else’s fault. Just focus on getting better so when this happens it’s not a problem, it’s not like it lasts the entire fight.

Why no condi reduction stat?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rhomulos.2089

Condi, unlike direct damage, is countered by cleanses. Almost all condi can be blocked/evaded/blinded, and if you cleanse most of it almost perfectly you reduce the bit that does get through by 80% of it’s effectiveness.

It’s generally easier to apply to balance this.

PvE Champion Solo Build?

in Engineer

Posted by: Rhomulos.2089

Rhomulos.2089

A build that I use to speed run every champion HP solo is as follows. Very forgiving amount of defense, 25 might/high quickness up-time and utility for different champions.

Zerker everything + hammer (rifle for some bosses’ breakbar)

Heal Gyro, Elixir B, U, Egun (Bulwark gyro in place of egun depending, Minefield for the chak HP’s retal/breakbar) Any elite skill, usually stealth or supply crate

Firearms/Alchemy/Scrapper spec lines.

This is an easy to learn build I suggest to any engineer looking for easy gameplay in HoT.

You can also run condi but it is significantly faster, but more difficult for more casual/inexperienced engineers to keep mobs in every fire field while dodging around. This build can solo even the vampire HP without much trouble, as long as you know it’s mechanics and have a little luck.

How would you rate the HoT Fun Factor?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Rhomulos.2089

As someone who has played since release, it fits nicely into what we’ve slogged through up to this point. I give it a solid 8/10 on fun factor. No doubt it could be better, but it could of been worse. Extremely worse, but in some cases of that it wasn’t just ‘good’ but also ‘impressive’ but almost exclusively on smaller details and QoL.

QoL was once widely what I looked forward to in updates, but HoT was exciting to experience. Very refreshing to have content I can appreciate, quality I can appreciate.

Overall this doesn’t relate to what I’d score the xpac overall, but as for fun, I certainly rate it high. Grind doesn’t effect me, I had ways to bypass it without using ‘exploity’ farms, or grinding the same thing over and over.. I also loved the challenge/depth/frustration brought by traversing the new maps.

Scrapper Stealth Gyro is OVER POWERED

in PvP

Posted by: Rhomulos.2089

Rhomulos.2089

It’s strong in niche situations that generally aren’t relevant to our game types, if we’re talking about getting out of a gank/2v1 etc, then it’s the only elite that can do it. Even then all it takes is to spam the area with aoe or kill the gyro real fast. It’s not even a stun break.

If a Scrapper takes this as their elite, they’re giving things up. It can be countered, perhaps not efficiently by a single person, but what the scrapper does is limited now.

No X for team fights/mobility/securing 1v1s/point holding and no Mortar for 1v1s, utility etc.

No comment atm on Stronghold viability. I don’t think balance matters for that right now.

I think the daze is fine, but it’s a little too spammable. Between the stunbreak trait trap, and the others, you can get a lot of interrupts out and it’s very annoying. Especially when they’re in the middle of downed cleaving with all that cc and aoe. Doesn’t feel healthy imo.

On the flip side, traps are basically all they have. They’re an otherwise weak spec if they don’t have traps how they are currently. They’re far easier to counter in a coordinated team, and for some classes in 1v1.

I’ll agree that it’s annoying to handle, makes rezzing teammates easy, but it’s far from impossible to deal with especially in 1v1s. Scrappers don’t benefit from stealth as much as other classes do in most roles, it just helps them not die or support the team.

How to dps Scrapper

in Engineer

Posted by: Rhomulos.2089

Sorry to say it but Scrapper doesn’t pump out significant damage on with it’s own specific traits/weapons/utilities.

The highest DPS you’ll get as a Scrapper is just the condi build with Scrapper line instead of Tools. If Hammer is needed, then the basic power build with a modified rotation is the best you’ll get.

For open world, I would suggest dropping explosives in favor of alchemy if you really want a change. Taking much else is likely not worth it, the defense and might stacking from Alchemy helps keep your damage/defense up for those rougher scaled events.

If we’re talking for open world group stuff, I’ve been running nades/FT/egun, but swapping out either FT or egun for Bulwark gyro depending on how much healing or aoe is needed. Sneak gyro also makes rezzing or surviving a breeze, it’s rare that mobs ever aggro to it.

You can take either hammer or rifle, hammer is more fun right now but also has useful utility that makes it better than rifle in some cases.

Weapon swap making up for elite mechanic?

in Engineer

Posted by: Rhomulos.2089

Rhomulos.2089

Edit: i see many responses are opposed to change kits. Let me ask this: how come the actual class mechanic is seen as much less important than some optional utilities?
People treat kits as if they were our class mechanic. They aren’t. And thus they shouldn’t have such an impact on our overall balancing.
They were made as an optional utility, and they should be balanced as an optional utility.
Not be the center of everything like they are now.

The class mechanic is actually the most important, without tool belt skills for many of our utilities, they wouldn’t be worth taking in many builds. Before the spec update, they were even exceptionally good for restoring Endurance and making the need for vigor almost obsolete in many builds.

Kits are strong, having at least one isn’t an issue. Most classes always have one of a single utility type on their bar, ours is kits. We’re also themed towards utility skills more than other classes, like how Revenants are too. There are niche builds that can work without taking a single kit, without DPS headsmash speed runs in mind.

Weapon swap making up for elite mechanic?

in Engineer

Posted by: Rhomulos.2089

Rhomulos.2089

Long time Engineer, I would hate this change. It wouldn’t add anything interesting to the class.

From a PvE perspective; No thanks. This would heavily interfere with rotations and I really don’t need more DPS buttons to press, which is essetnially all a weapon swap would bring. Not to mention it would slow us down with accidental weapon swaps when canceling abilities.

From a PvP perspective; No thanks. This would interfere with balance in a very negative way. Existing weapons would have to be watered down to compensate, because ALL Engineers would be running the exact same thing because we lack many weapons, so it’s just baseline utility/damage/CC that we’re gaining.

I honestly can’t understand why many must impose their other class’ design on Engineers. We don’t have weapon swap, we rely on our utility skills to design our playstyle. The same way Rangers are designed as a pet class, and this shouldn’t change (or change much, future elite spec etc) from being that at it’s heart.

i honestly have no idea what you are talking about, i saw your post earlier today and i thought this cant be right. so i made a build with it and i have been absolutely wrecking face. idk what builds you have been playing with it but the one i made has a crap ton of condi clear and it hits decently hard. also i heal myself/others for quite a bit.

Are we talking pve or pvp? Healing as it is now in current pve content is virtually useless, and with how Engineer works currently with gear stats/traits/kits, you literally butcher your DPS by huge amounts by taking time/utilities/gear to heal low/mediocre amounts. In PvP it’s kind of easy as hell to heal while doing damage though. Something that’s been kind of meta as Engi for awhile, but you also don’t need healing stats to get that done either.

The best ‘healing’ build I could come up with that didn’t make things arbitrary and inefficient was basically just sacrificing tools for inventions, keeping the zerk/sinister gear and playing normally while passive heals did their thing. Anything else just kills your/your teams DPS by massive amounts.

For PvP, it’s kinda just blast your healing turret and CC. Use any blasts if you’re running them with water field, no need for hpower at all, but cele amulet did a nice job back when that was stronger before the spec update.

Stow weapon and kits does not work

in Engineer

Posted by: Rhomulos.2089

Rhomulos.2089

To clarify a bit on what the OP is asking for: Stow weapon, AKA sheathing, is when you simply put your weapon away. This is done most notably with things like Mesmer’s greatsword 2 and 4 in order to fake cast, or stop shooting projectiles into a reflect. It’s like feinting attacks in Chivalry. We can’t do this on Kits because there isn’t a sheathing action, this isn’t referring to simply unequipping the kit while continuing the cast, which is something that every Engineer wants to keep.

I’m in favor of supporting feint casting as it adds more complexity to PvP, as long as it’s balanced appropriately, it’s also a good QoL feature to cancel actions in kits without unequipping as I have my sheath button in a very easy to hit spot (middle mouse) since I use it very frequently, and spam it when i’m about to shoot something I really really don’t want to, last second.

Although, this isn’t a heavily supported feature. There are pros and cons to having it available, like adding too much unintended complexity. But it’s also good because that level of depth is what makes this game great for many of us. I don’t think we’ll be seeing this option, as it’s intended entirely for a minority and we already have a mediocre workaround option through weapon swap.

Clerics just wasn’t ever really an Engi set, the healing done by even the old heal bombs was so mediocre that you’d get more team healing out of healing turret, thumper turret + other blasts while still maintaining other utility. Which is also better with healing/condi and not healing/power.

We’re good at burst healing with at most, celestial/off-HP gear and then focusing on other jobs, not dedicating to full healing.

I’m sorry but the damage is already not really that much considering how easy it is to avoid, we already have tons of easy Vuln stacking, and no condi build is dropping real condi utilities for Blast Gyro 4s low burn.

2k in pvp + more burns, and a relatively reliable CC, then Super Speed coupled with Rapid Regen. This makes it effective for 1v1s, it still won’t be optimal but it will be far from weak. Vuln is vuln, and 2-3k+CC on anything that isn’t a bunker/bruiser is good.

Getting the tag on them is easy, forcing them to dodge/worry about the gyro is also part of it being effective.

Beta: Slick Shoes needs to be toned down!

in Engineer

Posted by: Rhomulos.2089

Rhomulos.2089

Slick Shoes is op skill. it counters almost every attempts to escape and can stunlock you for 8 sec max without you being able to do anything.

Make it like that it has 1s internal cd on every field when it knocks down or the make it dodgeable. This skill was one of the reasons why engi was so op in beta also cause it could knock you down for so long time that you had no chance to survive against scrapper damage.

It isn’t OP, there are ways to avoid it. If you’re baited into using your CDs and then get trapped in a Slick Shoes combo, then you were simply outplayed. Engineers have to give up a kit or invuln+ stealth to take this utility.

Also to clarify, unless something was changed very very recently, Slick Shoes can’t be evaded or blocked. It doesn’t work if you step on old fields, but you can stack the new fields on top of each other to (seemingly) permanently lock someone down unless they know how the skill works.

Hammer damage

in Engineer

Posted by: Rhomulos.2089

Rhomulos.2089

Anyone defending the current state of hammer is out of their mind:

  • The auto attack is extremely weak, having the bonus might and vuln is pointless when the attack is both slow AND clunky thanks to aftercast. Standard grenades are still the only way to maintain competitive DPS so yay for RSI and 0 variety.
  • #2 Is fine, but also has a pretty clunky aftercast and deceptively small range. The damage is perfectly for a melee burst skill. Actually reflecting anything is very hard with the presence of the tiniest lag.
  • #3 Again the clunkiness is real. The damage is fine but the delay between each leap means you can easily get interrupted/countered as it doesn’t match the evade time given.
  • #4 Is probably the most solid skill, no problems here. I’d be fine if they toned back the vulnerability.
  • #5 The 2nd most solid skill. Cast time feels easy to accidentally cancel. I’d be okay of they reduced the range to 900.

If they don’t completely rework Gyros then they better make up for it with a decent weapon that’s not just another utility/burst swap in.

You may want to test #2 again, the range is quite nice.

Are we talking pvp or pve? If we want to play with 0 kits at all, then the AA is a little weak. This is entirely intentional, kits are our DPS option after all. If we’re worried about DPS, we don’t AA.

As for #3, it is a little clunky but it feels fine that way. It doesn’t need to be perfect, because I know I wouldn’t want a perfectly solid gap closer + long evade like that in PvP with so much defense elsewhere on the same bar. And in PvE, it’ll just have to be a l2p thing, 80% of the time all 3 hits connect because of their massive radius. Ledges are pretty scary though, may need some tuning for those but w/e if not.

Hammer damage

in Engineer

Posted by: Rhomulos.2089

Rhomulos.2089

The real question here is; Why would you need to just be auto-attacking with the hammer instead of doing other things? Are you really just asking for an option to be lazier but still get good results?

In PVE, hammer is fine. Doesn’t need AA damage. Really, there’s much better skills to be using than a slightly beefier weapon auto even if it’s more work.

In PVP, the hammer needs a downside. Right now it’s the weak auto and the slightly exploitable gaps in evades on hammer 3. If the auto was stronger, we’d have some issues with balance and lesser skilled played would have way too much reward for simply auto-attacking.

I’ll try to address something that doesn’t seem to have a lot of emotion wrapped up in it instead. Are you guys sure you’re not getting normal block functionality from Shock Shield? Every time I have used it it blocks like any other block even after the skill is over for a second or so. I even tried it again just to make sure and it is definitely working at any range in any direction for me. I pulled one of the profession NPCs in the HotM (Engineer specifically) and immediately turned around and ran ~400 range away then used the block skill. I blocked the next two attacks.

The block’s up-time doesn’t match it’s animation is the issue, the first half of the channel seems to leave you open, while you’re blocking for a bit after the channel ends.

Hammer feels incredible, it changes the pace of Engineer a lot and makes it feel more like a high risk/high reward bruiser.

This might have something to do with server lag, but i feel like swapping between kits feels very awkward when weeving it in with hammer skills. Something I could stand to get used to, but it feels like it kills a few possible combos and breaks the fluent feel of being hammer-only.

Here’s my suggestion, it is pretty simple and feed into their current iteration; All med packs thrown to the ground instead make a circle that allies can run through and receive the effect of the med pack. They can only get the effect once per medpack.

So you can stack all 4 on top of each other, so multiple allies can run through and all receive healing/boons. With a radius that makes it easy to hit allies, and also easy for allies to see on the ground.

Or increase the bonus damage of hitting a burning target by 35% instead of 10%, meaning up-time on optimal damage is minimal while solo unless you take IP instead of Juggernaut, and rewards your efforts to keep up burns while creating a secondary use for the burn condition.

Final Salvo Should Do More For Gyros

in Engineer

Posted by: Rhomulos.2089

Rhomulos.2089

A flat reduction of that magnitude isn’t what they need, assuming they’re met with a luke-warm response this coming weekend we’ll need to come up with something better than a idea. Mediocre skill effects on a low CD is mostly just obnoxious and under-rewarding.

I think a good trait to look at for comparison is the Mortar trait, Siege Rounds.

It increases the fields’ effectiveness by improving what they do, while also changing Orbital Strike. Instead of making the otherwise mediocre fields/orbital strike happen more often, they have more weight on their own. Fields/attacks like that should have more weight rather than just be more spammy after all, the same goes for Gyros.

A gyro trait should improve all of the gyro’s base functionality so that they become effective in more situations, or are more effective in their current situations. Example; Shredder Gyro hits more often and has a bigger radius. (I also think Shredder Gyro should do a bit more base damage)

Another example; Blast gyro sends out a fan of grenades upon detonation

Fun effects that add to the skill without changing functionality and without making them mandatory for their original purpose, but make them effective in different builds is what I want to see.

How it is now with how many i-frames we have, pure tanks/healers will never be optimal and in the top 1% tier of organized play will always favor how zerk/sinister meta is because it’s fast and they don’t’ need the defense/heals as much

So, should all of the order and race story elements have been shoehorned into my human Whispers character play through?

nah, I just believe that if you’re giving one race an exclusive quirk, others should get their own. Else only one race has a unique experience making it only worth it to play as that race and that race alone, as it’s extra lines and not changed story in general. Meaning currently sylvari is the only race with the full personal story experience. Which is wrong.

Every post you do contradicts yourself. Weren’t you saying this a few posts ago:

if I have to race switch in order to live trough the game’s full story and fully understand it then yes, it’s bad design. Your player should be treated equal no matter he is an altoholic or not.

So how you now say that it should be fair to every race have its own story specific content (What would make you obligated to roll all 5 races in order to live trough the game’s full story and fully understand it) ?

if everyone is exclusive then nobody is exclusive. Currently every race as a predefined amount of missions that are different from each other. Meaning it’s satisfying no matter which one you roll.
However if the story is the same for everyone, except for one race and the difference is more lines rather than a different story, then the only way to experience the full story line is to play that specific race.

As far as we know, the story will actually be different for Sylvari players. This means that it will benefit us to play both Sylvari and non-Sylvari throught he same instances, adding replayability.

not leveling a class that’s supposed to be for cosmetic purposes only.

And that’s where you’re wrong. Different races aren’t just for different looks, they are there for different experiences. Otherwise there wouldn’t be racial skills and race specific story. If you never play a norn, you will never get to play the personal story that comes with it either. Same goes for this.

this isn’t race specific story. This is “lose out if you’re specifically not a sylvari”. Because no other races get anything special.

This is flavor, it’s what gives the game depth and replayability. If it were not in the game, it would be a huge missed opportunity. If it were shoehorned in, the lore would not be taken seriously and the quality and charm would likely not be there.

Sylvari are a special race new to the series with an expansion built on lore that heavily relates to them, if in this day and age we have the means to make this as immersive an experience as possible then we should.

Stealth gyro in a nut shell

Stealth Gyro will be incredibly strong, 30s of pulsing mobile stealth will give you a huge advantage in both pve and pvp. There are many strong applications this will have for team based play, like being backline in a team fight and someone retreating into your stealth field to disengage.

Even if Stealth Gyro dies within 15k hp, that will be enough if the Scrapper can manage it correctly.

Why hate on Function Gyro ??

PvE function gyro further strengthens our pug carrying capabilities, and will make newer content easier to deal with anyway.

If we get to a point where we have super meta raid comps where no one needs the extra rez power from function gyro, we’ll still get tons of mileage out of it between HoT release and then. This is also assuming they don’t add stomps to permanent group pve content, which they very well could.

I’m satisfied with pretty much everything in the Scrapper, anet is pretty good with being flexible with changes and we know how to make our class work after a few years of playing it.

Can you guys a least wait until they fully revelate the spec before hate the kitten out of it ? It can’t be worse than Tempest. I am expecting a nwe brawler option for the engi with the spec just looking the new trait

View this as satire and deflating the overhype. Any engi of 3 years that isn’t a casual knows that despite niche builds being removed through less traits, we’re still in a great spot and new tools and toys just keep things nice and fresh for us.

Lightning Field=Super Speed? New Group Role?

Brace for ICD. Just saying.

dont jynx it..

I’m sorry but I really can’t see this being something allowed to happen without an ICD.
It could be a decent duration for the Super Speed but I don’t think they’ll let this be stackable.

Especially seeing how we have a Lightning Field + TRIPLE LEAP finisher on a single weapon.

…well maybe its just my desire to be wanted in groups and appreciated for once to made me go blind to that.. but yea you might be right. Im just personally sick of “but the ele can stack might better” and “this class can do that better” and the “kick the engi i got another ele” i had so long.

Where is this happening? WvW?

I have had nothing but great experiences as an Engie in sPvP and PvE.

I second this, been nothing short of amazing. I’ve made a lot of my current friends because they really liked how I played Engineer back when it was less common.

WvW zerg business is usually when we’re not desired. We’re easily countered by zerg tactics and need to dedicate a lot in order to do basic ‘zerg tactics’. We’re better as roamers there, we’re still desirable in that light if you’re actually good at your build.

Brace for ICD. Just saying.

ICD shouldn’t impact it much at all, 5s on a 10s ICD wouldn’t be terrible for example. It’s not like we’ll actually need permanent Super Speed up-time after all. As it is now, it can’t be stacked anyway, so overlapping the buff would be counter productive.

Why do I get the feeling someone working on this specialization watched too much mad max?

I’m on board for a Mad Max themed elite spec, was also always a fan of the Fallout theme too.

ooh ok… honestly i’d prefer protection or something more defensive…superspeed could interesting depending on the application…but usually its just incredibly situational…
besides that lightning fields arent THAT amazing…especially if you dont have a whirl finisher… and im also really unsure in what way the drones fit into this lightning theme – because it doesnt really seem coherent as a theme so far…but well see

Super speed is niche in it’s defensive use but is overall a huge advantage in a lot of scenarios, especially in PvP. Protection has never really been mainly an Engineer thing, only a color in it’s rainbow of different damage mitigation options.

It can be used both offensively and defensively, and in general is just useful all together. It’s fitting of Engineer’s theme as well as filling it’s own niche just like Chrono taking up lots of Quickness up-time.

Had my Juggernaut crafted for a few months now, I haven’t used it on any of my characters yet. It’s fully infused/sigil’d out already for the builds I was going to try it in, and has been sitting in my Engineer’s inventory since it was made.

one problem: super speed has a stack cap of 1.

This won’t make a huge difference, it’s not too difficult to just keep track of durations and reapply it. There is also a small chance it will become a boon: "Boons affect your gyros, so you can apply swiftness or super speed "

We’ll adapt if it isn’t, just another skill cap thing that us Engineers are used to by now.

I like the mention of Rocket Boots, each chain of it being a leap finisher, and making it nearly impossible for us to lose our target, unless we’really CC’d before they run, add that to super speed? Mobility, tankiness, and CC, hello GvG and WvW raids!

Definitely, that ranged AoE stun field on Hammer alone is amazing. Drop it on someone, stunning them, and then leap through it to daze them once more when they leave it! I see a lot of potential for Scrapper in WvW, it’ll eat through stability very quickly I hope.

From the interview in http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/473/feature/10104/Guild-Wars-2-Its-Hammer-Time-The-Scrapper-Engineers-Elite-Specialization.html

ICH: I hadn’t considered it in terms of other kits, but yes, the hammer and Scrapper specialization do cover the electric theme. Electricity also exists in the game through Lightning Combo fields, which can cause vulnerability, dazing or grant super speed. These were all components that played into the skills and traits for the profession.

This either almost confirms my hopes that Engineer will be able to convert Swiftness into Super Speed, or it was simply an error. But it’s mentioned alongside Swiftness in a later paragraph so we’ll just have to see.

Either way, seems Scrapper will be all about Super Speed access, which is a very interesting group support mechanic that is easily one of the most noticeable effects in the game while in mobile combat. I look forward to seeing this work in Raids in order to help save people from getting caught in AoE.

I’m satisfied by how our Elite Spec is described; Tank-like, tons of CC and group Super Speed. This is the type of hands-on control and support that fits GW2’s original concept for PvE combat perfectly imo, and I’m excited to see how it pans out in the new content.
