It’s a thing with continuus attack that was added I think even before HoT. Some auto-attacks’ damage accumulates if un-interrupted, like Flamethrower’s or Mesmer Greatsword’s auto.

Can we pleeease make Sneak Gyro reliable? :(

play buttloads of wvw.
you get hero chests there that reward a currency for which you can unlock HoT hero challenges.
After PoF hits, these chests will be changed to reward another currency for PoF hero challenges, and already collected chests will drop the new currency rather than the old, locking HoT hero challenges to be only unlocked by actually playing them. And they are anti-fun :/

I’m fairly sure old chests won’t drop the new currency, otherwise they wouldn’t give us new chests.
Old chests = only proofs of heroic
New chests = proofs of heroic or new currency to choose.

Don’t bother with builds and such. In early PvE you can honestly run with whatever you both find fun. I recommend looking through GW2’s reddit, it’s much more helpful than official forums.

I do agree condi necro is broken. Amount of bleeds they can pump out is just insane.

The general tip to deal with necros is stay away from them and attack from range as much as possible. The Chill to the Bone and Reaper Shroud are probably the most deadly, and both have limited range.

Open world
- Firearms: 3-3-2. Alchemy: 2-2-1. Holo: 2-2-2
- Gear: full commander(for now) runes of durability to max boon duration
- Weapons: Sword/sheild
- Utility: Elixir H, Elixir B, Elixir U, EG/Exceed blades/arena(for TB)holo elite

- I want boon myself as much as possible. Thanks to elixirs I can hold 7perma boons (might,regen,swift,protect,fury,quick,retal) -which mean 14% dmg boost from firearms trait. Firearms give me also 20% crit chance from traits. Alchemy give me tanky and boon duration – and needed swiftness uptime.

Pvp:
- same like scrapper only change can be marauder amulet. EG is still pretty good stunbreak and unblockable aoe. Bulwark changes for exceed stunbrake and purgy for elixir B (tossing stability). But they can make changes untill release so this is only funny theory craft.

Firearms trait gives 2% more damage per condition on foe. The trait you are looking for is in Alchemy.

Edit: scrach that. Alchemy trait reduces incoming damage by 2% per boon.

You can jump normally with raptor as well. In options you can change the “long” jump to act as a dodge (and be activaded with V), and then you have a normal jump, like a player character would (with space).

I’ve been toying today with:
Tools 2-2-2,
Elixirs 1-2-1,
Holo 2-2-1,
with Celestial gear. Thanks to Tools grandmaster (endurance regeneration) and Elixirs adept+Holo Leap (gain vigor with upon gaining swiftness + spammable swiftness), we have very high endurance regeneration (I’ve been also using Energy Sigil), so we can proc a lot of burns from Holo grandmaster. This also keeps our heat on resonable level. I didn’t find the damage satisfying enough tho, also it’s very risky to spam dodges mindlessly. I love Spectrum Shield as utility.

I’ve been watching some streamer on Twitch play the double static discharge OP mentioned, the damage spam was just crazy. I’ll be definitely trying it out in small scale WvW.

Thanks for the possibility to participate! I had a lot of fun during the test, I’m glad I pre-purchased the expansion.

Other than exceptionally long loading screen after selecting the demo character, I noticed no problems.

May I only suggest for future events, to give the test characters legendary-level equipment to lessen the inventory clutter?

Below 50% (level 1) skill unchanged – above 50% (level 2) small change – above 100% (level 3) change

Riffle

  • Hip Shot – Level 2 – 5% damage increase / Level 3 – 10% damage increase
  • Net Shot – Level 2 – Immobilize 3sec. / Level 3 – Immobilize 4sec.
  • Blunderbuss – Level 2 – +1 Bleeding (for whatever range) / Level 3 – +2 Bleeding (for whatever range)
  • Overcharged Shot – Level 2 – +50% Critical Hit / Level 3 – +100% Critical Hit
  • Jump Shot – Level 2 – Range 900 / Level 3 – Range 1000

Pistol

  • Fragmentation Shot – Level 2 – Combo Finisher: Physical Projectile (35% chance) / Level 3 – Combo Finisher: Physical Projectile (50% chance)
  • Poison Dart Volley – Level 2 – Additional Darts: 1 / Level 3 – Additional Darts: 2

I’m not going to do the Harpoon Gun, but it also needs to beneficiate from heat, and the Sword should be slightly buffed, especially the core damage and Refraction Cutter:

  • Refraction Cutter – Level 2 – Additional Blades: 4 (in a cone in front of the holosmith) / Level 3 – Additional Blades: 8 (in an AoE around the holosmith)

Nice ideas. I’ll toss some of my own:
Pistol:

  • Fragmentation Shot: lvl 2 – additional bleed, lvl 3 – 2 additional bleeds

Rifle:

  • Hip shot: lvl 2 – +25% critical chance, lvl 3 – +33% critical chance
    or lvl 2 – gain 1s of quickness

Gyros After 2 Years

  • Purge Gyro is one of the most ironic skills in the game – it’s supposed to be anti-condi, but dies to condis in a couple of seconds unless you purge it.
  • Healing Gyro has a decent toolbelt: long-lasting, large, mobile water field that pulses protection, but the Gyro itself isn’t even remotely as good heal as Healing Turret, which has a large water field too.
  • Stealth Gyro is almost alright, if not for the kittened AI – just make it stick to you god kitten it, I’d just grab the kitten thing and keep it in my hand.
  • Bulwark dies way too easily, it’s okay if you are in 1v1 situation, but with more players it’s almost insignificant. I love toolbelt skill tho.
  • Shredder Gyro has a decent damage, both Gyro itself and toolbelt, but only if you can stack NPCs. It’s not really worth taking if we’r in player vs player situation; it’s easy to dodge and/or destroy. It expires after a couple of seconds anyway.
  • Blast Gyro is bad. Easy to dodge, stuck on the terrain really often, and sometimes will randomly switch targets. Drop Mine is waaay better, especially after recent update. Blast Gyro’s toolbelt is usefull only to speed up dollies in WvW.

Generally, in my opinion Gyros should be reworked to work like an aura around scrapper, without spawning a kittened entity.

Retal was always ridiculous vs a lot of engi builds. FT, nades and mortar are usually more painful for us than for enemies.

if you combine it with the 25% hp heal reset trait and you got good timing this is engineer’s best heal

but that requires tremendous timing and luck alot of times
sometimes i swear i triggered it and then end up downed cuz i dint notice i got dazed lol

also the toolbelt skill wich i thought was just a stun , hits like a truck

Keep in mind that earlier comments say the recharge trait isn’t working with AED.

There’s a grandmaster trait that makes an overheat build a thing. AED looks very juicy for Holo. We’ll see how fast the heat builds up in the battle etc, but AED will definitely have its role.

But that trait also makes the initial overheat blast damage your enemies instead of you, removing the potential synergy with AED.

It removes the direct 4k damage, but you still get the debuff that deals another 4k dmg over 2,5 seconds.

I’ve been thinking about possible builds that Holosmith presents. There’s a lot of possibilities – we can do power damage, take the triat that gives us 150% heat capacity and keep going in and out of Holosmith to keep that sweet 100-150% heat level, cleansing condis and healing ourselfs with the minor trait.
Or we can go the suicide bomber, either condi or power, take elixir U and build as much heat as possible as quickly as possible.
Or we can go condi dodger, take Tools for endurance trait and Firearms for Vigor trait to combo with the leap from Holosmith that gives.
Oh my god, I’m almost lost in possibilities.

It would make sense to add “Gain some barrier on using shield skill” into the shield trait. Or to Gadgeteer “Gain some barrier upon using gadget”. There is a lot of useless skills and traits on engineer that could benefit from the new mechanics (barrier and amunition).

Ofc there’s also a barrier trait on Holosmith – middle master trait.

Wiki says it is a 30 second cooldown, 25.5 if you take Tools. (Flash Spark)

And hey, on the “bright” side, it gives you a 4 second Light Aura too when above 50 heat!

What you should be worried about is Cauterize! It’s one of two condition clears the Holosmith offers, and it sets us on fire!

Maybe 08.08 balance patch will give core engi more condi clears than elixirs. Remove condition after using toolbelt skill? Give Gadgets 2-3 charges and add condi cleanse fact per use after traiting Gadgeteer? Pretty, pretty please.

So…i am sorry for my stupidity and my lack of skill.

My server went up a rank and now i am useless.

My engineer cant win 1v1s versus anyone. Condition power hammer rifle pistol.

Even in parties i do the least amount of damage and take more damage than other classes.

I realize engineer is garbage in pvp. No matter what gear set i use and how fights start i can never win out of skill.

The only times i win is by numbers or by staying close to others.

Now that my server is higher rank i see roamers and people who destroy me.

I have hot keys and i try to outplay. But engineer is so useless. They are only useful as something for someone to focus on while everybody else does the real damage.

I cant outplay people in 1v1 and i bring nothing useful to groups or zergs. By bulworm gyro doesn’t reduce damage enough and my runes of durability do nothing

I tried scrapper maurader soldiers sentinal armor and i mix them up and i still explode.

My condition 1 shot build doesn’t work 1v1 anymore.

I feel like i got cursed. I was doing fine but now my class as a whole is useless in my favorite area of the game – wvw

I don’t mean to be a drama queen but engineer cant do anything in wvw. I see now why people are upset. Engineer is weak in wvw

I have ascended armor and still explode and dont do any damage. Wow.

What I’m pretty sure A-net are gonna do with this xpac. Is give a HUGE revamp to all existing skills and mechanics for all the classes. So I don’t thjink we are gonna lose our current F5 skills, they might just be changed.

Now now, don’t forget there’s a few new mechanics coming to the game, and core classes will get them too – the Amunition/Charges system and Shield thing. I wouldn’t be surpsised if Gadgets will benefit from the Charges. Also, as several people pointed out on reddit , there is some weird stuff with Orbital Strike going on – possibly a rework to Siege Rounds.

First delete the profession.

Next give everyone with a level fifty or higher engineer a new elite skill: ‘Corps of Engineers,’

On activation of CoE one to five engineers of randomly assigned races spawn and then together cry a river, build a bridge, and get over it before it collapses behind them(perhaps with some still on it.) The collapse is considered a pulsing blast finisher called, ‘Disaster Area,’ with a ten second duration and radius of six hundred units. The pulses come every half second and will blast finish any field executed within the specified area including those of enemy players so it’s possible to top yourself using this if you aren’t careful. Afterwards the engineers will pack up their tools and despawn as a bicycle horn plays them out(HONK! HONK!)

The ability has a two second channel time. And in addition to the disaster area grants a two second application of regeneration and one stack of torment to the player, applying to up a maximum of five friendly players as well. All surrounding enemies receive a one second Daze and a three second Confusion stack.

its for small groups like 2-5 player and best played 1v1 builed if you can handle this with the 3 kits.

-this builed doing insane hybrid dmg.
- insane sustain and you have nice armor(over 3000 ) nice hp pool (22500)
- power is near 2000k and you have condition dmg.
- you can do with tool kit 3 and bomb kit 3 instant 10 stack of confuse.
- you can generate some fire fields give you with hammer 3 or 2 finishers for more hybrid dmg
- you have a stealth with toolbomb and bomb 4 smoke ore finsh with hammer 3
- use tool flamethower skill for burst burn.
- you have over 200% crit dmg your crits hit hard.
- you can replace bombkit with other kit or utlity
- you can replce alchemy for firearms too get more condi dmg and burn duration but cost of sustain.
- hard to master or hard to handle the kits and using the skills correctly

I can just say i played with maro or commanders stats but after i found this combination i win near all 1v1 fights and warriors are no problem anymore they cant handle this hybrid dmg. only big problems are high condi bursts.

Unfortunately WvW is nowadays made of 40% condi necros, 10% hybrid necros, 25% condi mesmers. You do have the F5 ability, but one big cleanse is even close to either Cleanse Gyro and/or Elixir C.

I agree Flamethrower is the way to deal damage, it’s amazing and with Juggernaut trait you can counter warriors very effectively. But if you stumble upon a class with Retaliation (guardian, another engi…) you are doing more harm to yourself than them. Which sucks.

A day before yesterday I tried to stomp someone in WvW, but Gyro decided it will fly to a completely dead guy near my downed target. The dead guy was dead before even before enemy I targeted was downed.

The blast gyro on the other hand could have been pretty fun to use but they ruined it for me that it only can be activated when you have a target, the throwing of the tag announcing to your enemy that you are sending a slow moving gyro on its way which may or may not detonate when they meet eachother (really dumb ai) even if you try to summon it and detonate it manually in melee range it takes like 1-1.5 seconds which is long.

Blast Gyro would be perfectly fine for me if not this kittening random targetting and the delay before it starts moving.

And shredder gyro is basically a turret, to be honest. Or what turrets should become.

The latest “balance” patch changed how turrets work – now they overcharge upon deployment, once. After that, they autoattack until picked up or destroyed. This change was made to let us use toolbelt skill regardless of whether the turret is deployed or not.

Most of engineer community (straw poll thread) agreed the previous system was better.

Personally, I think this change is stupid, made turrets uninteresting and even more useless than before (not that they were much of a use before the change…).

[sarcasm] But hey, raid power build got 300 dps more. Everybody looove raids obviously [/sarcasm].

Do keep in mind, thrown Elixirs can be reflected or bodyblocked, causing the skill to go on full cooldown and taking no effect. In the heat of zerg battle, reflecting skills are
literally everywhere, making elixir B not as reliable “stab 2” as guardian can provide.

I find the traits/skills order very interesting (it already was mentioned by someone else in this thread). We get our minor traits very quickly, with 3 major traits. I have no idea tho, if those major traits are 3 adepts, or maybe one of each – adept, master, grandmaster (this order wouldn’t make a lot of sense tho).

Beside light-related traits (3rd and 15th trait obviously, the one with a prism of some sort, and other with magnifying glass), I can see:

  • at least 2 pictures related to pressure/gas of some sort – 6th picture, minor trait, looks to me like a gauge, and 12th picture is clearly a train’s whistle letting the steam out;
  • there are also pictures related to electronics: 10th looks like an electronic symbol, similar to battery, capacitor or grounding (capacitor? are we gonna get some kind of energy/charging system based on light?), also obviously the chip on 17th picture;
  • the 5th, 11th and 16th pictures are probably related to sun. 5th looks like solar eclipse, 16th is sun behind a cloud. Something about lack of the light? 11th picture is ‘sun’ with lightning symbol, so maybe about augmenting our ability to use the light.
    Also, worth noticing – if that is indeed the sun on those pictures, what is the dot on each of them – on top, left and right (it may be nothing, the artist was lazy and just rotated the background. Maybe.) ?
  • I can’t get a hang of the 2nd and 7th picture. 4th one is very generic.;
  • no idea what heal skill pic (8th) is showing. Next skill may be a character holding some kind of a barrier… or a mirror. 13th is some kind of blade (or a fidget spinner, who knows). 14th may be some kind of barrier, but what if those are mirrors set up to confuse the enemy/blind him/focus a lot of light on them? 18th is just a circle, so it may be either a barrier, or a mirror, or a star. The last skill, elite, (19th) is obviously a Ray of Death.

"Leaked" Engie Spec

I just realized an important thing.

Each spec artwork is facing to the right or to the front in the unlock window however if we check the real, correct facing on the full artwork from HoT, which had exactly the same facing as the vanilla one, we can say that engi is definitely getting a MAIN HAND sword.

I doubt that they’ll go in a different way with this expansion so the new artwork with all specs will have exactly same facing as the previous ones and this helps us determine for real whether MH or OH shall be used.

Well that was quite obvious for me, giving us offhand sword would force us to run pistol main hand, therefor forcing a condi build.

I can only speak for Piken. You’ll find a lovely mix of salt and complaining combined with a large dose of humor plus some zaniness thrown in to boot. There is a core of fun loving folks there who enjoy doing what they do regardless of what the matchup looks like. I’m an NA player myself with an account on both EU and NA. Outside of prime time EU, Piken will drop off significantly in population.

This is a pretty accurate description, I made a lot of good friends on Piken. Despite some people leaving to Vabbi, I say we have strong community going.

Also, rifle is incredibly fun if you have an opportunity to use environment. High cliffs on Desert Borderlands, some places on Alpine – I scored at least 20-30 kills with Overcharged Shot camping at middle Air Shrine at Air Keep in Desert Border (stealth → wait for good placement → Overcharged Shot/Magnet).

Sometimes fun is spoiled by traits that proc upon CC tho.
