Sigil Proposals v2

in PvP

Posted by: Saurrec.6402

Saurrec.6402

There has been some good discussion internally and externally regarding the sigil proposals. The biggest changes in v2 are the re-addition of condition duration sigils and additional percent damage sigils. Some number tweaks were made across the board.

The first proposal discussion is here.

Sigil of +Confusion
Increase Inflicted Confusion Duration: 25%

Sigil of +Torment
Increase Inflicted Torment Duration: 25%

This is what I always thought PvP needed since I started playing. Now all my favorite conditions can last longer!

I love your artwork!

This is a great idea.

I’d grind oodles of time away for this. (But you said no charr ATM.)

The most I could do for Charr toons is a headshot. I don’t feel I’m at a point where I could sell anthro bodys. ; u ;
I’m just not very good at them.

Well thank you for your reply! :-) if you get better at the bodies I would be very interested in a game-currency deal.

No problem! I realized I never put samples of my Charr drawings anywhere so I thought I’d show them along with my most resent Anthro drawing to see what you think. If your ok with being a test subject then I’ll draw your Charr for a lot less guess. I realized if I never draw charr then I’m never going to get better. : ’ )

I like it! Those charr look better than anything I can draw.

“Ascended weapons and armor were added to BLING because there are some players who do not want to do any crafting, but do want to play Fractals. BLING gives these players access to Ascended weapons and armor without forcing them to level up their crafting skills.
For players who are interested in crafting, crafting remains the most efficient way to obtain Ascended weapons and armor on-demand, which is intentional, as Ascended crafting is the big payoff for leveling your crafting skills.”

“Added BLING-9009 to the merchant area. This vendor has many rare and exceptional items available…for a price.”

Why has Anet done a turnabout?
Really.. add a tab back to bling where we could buy it the old way. This isn’t “better” for the community as a whole. It’s not at all healthy, you could’ve given these tokens as an ADDITIONAL way to buy and nobody would be upset.

I severely don’t think the amount of people complaining that Bing was doing damage to the ascended crating market was very high (if any)… There were many people who
A) Got excited about Bling.
B) Didn’t think they’d use it.
C) Saw the benefits of this vendor even though they wouldn’t use it.

PvP…. why would you do that this way?

If you didn’t want everyone to get asc gear so easily add $$$ to pvp gear… BLAM fixed.
Fractals was ok. Had to do time gated pages and cost more…

Make the new tokens mystic forge made or tradable and it won’t be a complete train wreck.

I will just repost what I think is the biggest drawback of this update.
People who want a one off weapon.
I’ll give an example: Someone who wants a weapon from a discipline they would never use again. Now instead of paying an extra amount of gold for that weapon they will now have to level a discipline for one item. That will cost them an excessive amount more than the item they wanted is worth.

Hi! Although I’m quite as much concerned about this as you are, I ask you to atleast wait ‘till the update is out to see how it’s doing.

Well this does assume a few things off the wording of the post so sorry but that and it’s more of a complaint and speculation of what they said it could actually be not that bad if they look at this and similar posts. Or it could be very bad if they try and push crafting as the sole way of gaining the gear.
As I posted originally this is mostly about the fact not everyone likes crafting but basically everyone I know wants ascended gear for fractal/raids etc. And it really peeved me mostly about the fact it’s not a adjustment to pvp gear but the other kind as well. Itso the max crafting line near the bottom of the devs post that made me upset.

(And asc gear would probably never be made tradable as that would blow up the tp)

shows a player’s mastery of the appropriate crafting discipline

I don’t see how it would show that if it could be traded.

I do hope that it will be tradeable even if it doesn’t affect me and allowing it to be traded will still satisfy

Ascended crafting is vital to sustaining a healthy economy and it is important that we keep that in place even when a player acquires ascended items via a vendor.

but won’t end up forcing everyone to craft. On the other hand that will result in more gold floating around in the economy since less of it is being destroyed via the NPCs.

Well… it doesn’t really make sense for them to word it that way if you could sell it. It could be (fingers crossed) and I’m sure that the gold being destroyed is smaller than the gold generated by the mats /enemies killed.

At this point it mostly speculation and this post was mostly aimed at devs (if they bother to pay attention to someone on the forum)
And kinda warn them what not to do.

Warrior because it is great for damage and sustain. (When I need that thing dead RIGHT THIS SECOND.)

Necromancer for all the conditions, minions and deathshroud. ( My Many Minions Maimed My Mortal Foes.)

Mesmer for the pink butterflies and being a pain in the rear in PvP. (Your capture points are a liability and do not travel alone.)

I don’t do any other mmos but in my years playing D&D I usually was the warrior or sometimes a practical caster type.

(This post was merged so that’s why it looks out of place)

“Hmm let’s give them alternate methods to get ascended gear without crafting. No wait better idea now make them all need crafting!”
Well no not a good idea.

Right now if you have 500 crafting you just blow over a hundred gold and 5 minutes later you get a piece of armor.
Meanwhile for fractal boxes you need to login on multiple days, play for at least an hour to get pages. Thus extending your games life.

Also the whole “ascended crafting is required for a healthy econemy” really is only looking at half of the equation. The demand, a forced increase in demand? Simple economics says that will drive prices up if a new source of materials is not implemented. I don’t see anet creating farms or mines to fulfill the demand.

Also who the kitten would use fractal boxes as a primary source to gear up a character? If you look at the time/money required it would be less expensive to level up a crafting discipline if you were aiming for a full suit. Fractal boxes are perfect for a secondary source.
Let’s pretend you only have heavy/light classes and want a bow for your warrior. It would not be viable money and time wise to level up the discipline to create ONE ITEM. But playing a kitten load of fractals to get that box would make more sense.

What Anet could implement if they really wanted to make crafting more important was to provide a second tab to the vendor where you got 50-60% off the integrated matrix and pages if you gave them a token. What is the logic of giving a vendor as an alternate method only to force crafting in order to purchase from the npc?

Also some people don’t craft but farm materials to sell on tp, this enables the people who enjoy crafting to buy the ingredients cheaply.
SOME PEOPLE DO NOT ENJOY CRAFTING BUT DO NOT WANT TO BE EXCLUDED FROM ENDGAME CONTENT. Play the way you want just went out the window.

If you wanted to prevent everyone running around with asc gear add a huge price tag to PvP gear to make it in line with the cost of fractal gear.
Also am I the only one who noticed raids were not mentioned in the post? It specifically says at the beginning pvp and fractals.
Do raid players get a free pass? Or simply neglected in the post? Oh wait open world too? You can get asc gear from vendors in ember bay for example.. will they need a jeweler token?

(DISCLAIMER)
I love the game but this is such a failure of logic that I had to point it out.

(FINAL WORD)
Also could we get numbers on people who used fractal boxes as a primary gear source to fully gear chraracters?
PvP gear was so cheap that Anet brought it on themselves. I know many people used last season to get ridiculously cheap asc gear.
Forcing crafting is a bad idea.

Some simple tips I would throw out to a “hardcore” PvP newcomer is go into one of the hotjoin 1v1 or practice servers.
Simple thing to do is simply run a meta mesmer build and follow another teammate (you won’t get an impressive score this way but you won’t be a complete liability.)
Also alert your team at the pregame (you may get a couple cross words) but often A more experienced player will take you under their wing for the match.
Don’t be shy, ask in mapchat if someone will team up with you or duel you on a empty server.

Thank you all for your thoughts. It seems that Matchmaking appears to be the biggest issue, the reward tiers seem have more than a mite of popularity in contrast.

I will agree Khorg, the whole “I got my participation token I’m going to afk.” Is rather vile, I wonder if they don’t know that top stats reward pips, because they could halve the time spent in pvp if they tried.
The duo Q limit does seem odd, they should put teamQ back & tweak the MM a bit.

Tips&Tricks for pvp & how to be better at it.

in PvP

Posted by: Saurrec.6402

Saurrec.6402

Over my career I’ve noticed (even high ranked players) often do not use simple mechanics or tricks in pvp.
(If you already know these feel free to comment with your own.)

Dodge is your best friend, it’s often a surprise when for a whole fight I don’t see the other player evade, if you time it correctly you could win the fight.

Use terrain to your advantage, a shadowstepping thief eating your health? Long range attacks killing you? Just move to a place where they have no line of sight, boulders, hedges, all can save you.

Move out of aoe, I see this often when I drop my chaos storm on someone and they don’t even walk out of it.

Traps, especially DH, just dodge out or wait until the owner has moved away.

Learn the other classes, figure out the animations, a well timed block or evade has saved me many times from Moa or the like, each class performs specific “Casts” that are a dead give away for the attacks or skills.

Look at what’s the meta, you don’t need to play by it but so many players I see just copy-paste builds and don’t know how to play the class other than the specific rotation they pulled off Metabattle.

Do not try and solo the whole team at mid, I often see this far too often, one teams gets mid first and 3 or so guys stay there because the enemy team keeps coming one at a time and feeding them, take a couple seconds (maybe stay on home) until a teammate or two walks off WP and rush mid together.

Objectives are more important than kills, I see players leave a point that they were capturing because the enemy they were fighting ran away.

If you are going into ranked bring a class you know, you don’t have to be Meta.
But I cringe when I see someone in ranked say “it’s my first game on class X.”
Please, go and play a handful of matches in unranked first.

Do not be salty, do not name call, this is unhelpful and distracts teammates who are trying to win the game.
Yes you may be playing with a player who doesn’t know the first thing about the class but standing at WP and calling him a “Kitten-kitten who should kitten a kitten.”
Will not get your team points.

Do not lose hope, I have seen teams make a comeback from having half the points than the other team.

Remember, you can easily learn the enemies playstlye, like I’ve managed to pull a defensive player into the open or place a offensive player on the defence, forcing someone to play in a style they are unfamiliar or not experienced in can be the difference between free kills or a long time in the deadbox.

Do not run around off points looking to backstab an unaware player, this is useless to your team.

Develop a simple plan in the pregame, for instance, the glass build gets home and the rest head mid. And you do not need half your team capturing home, more people on a point won’t mean a swifter cap. Meanwhile your team will get eaten in a 2v5 at mid.

Learn each effects, boons, or conditions icon, this can be useful. Have blind? Stop casting your hard hitting attack and auto a couple times. Target has stability? Maybe knockback isn’t a good choice. Warrior has endure pain? Drop a condition bomb instead of a power attack.

Learn each classes weaknesses, for instance thieves are squishy, while the necromancer has low stability acsess.

Learn each classes advantages, like thief has more dodges than other classes or warriors have multiple direct-damage reductions.

And please, if something kills you its not OP don’t run to the forum without thinking,
“Mesmers can have invulnerability up 100% of the time!!” No, just that they often save it for when they see you charging a powerful attack.
“Thieves can dodge everything and are immortal!!” Time your burst and it’s game over.

I like how people reroll a lot more to avoid class stacking or just having a more balanced team.

I’m often the only mesmer in the match but I often see thieves being stacked… a bit of tweaking to the team algorithm could fix that, then there would be no more 4 thieves and a necro on one team while the other has an elementalist, warrior, gaurd, and mesmer.

I’m posting about why I liked/played this the season the most out of all of them.

(WARNING: POSITIVITY AHEAD)

Because of the reward/matchmaking systems I managed to get rewards and enjoy the games and didn’t suffer from a salt overdose in team/mapchat.

I like the fact that pvp has ascended gear (am I the only one?)

I also liked that simply having a afk or trolling player didn’t completely ruin your whole season. (getting 3-4 pips is better than losing them, losing division points sucked as usual.)

The new divisions need the kinks worked out but wasn’t pianful in a play through.

I did repeatedly play with or against a few dudes that are now on my friends list.

The matchmaking was mediocre but I’ve played games with worse.

I do hope the current separate division and tier reward systems stays.

Please bring the reward tracks back next season with the pips as reward tickers.

The idea of matchmking divisions being separate from reward tiers was probably the best move in ranked so far. :-)

I’ve been a huge fan of this game and have enjoyed pvp a bit too much.
The community is one of the greatest I’ve encountered in games so let’s discuss this topic constructively.

Proof of heroics? Or world completion?

I want to get my elite specializations up, but I have a dilemma.

I’m scared of WvW, I either get yelled at by a team member for taking an objective or attacking an enemy they were talking to, and when it’s not that I’m getting killed by 6 guys with diamond titles and multiple legendaries.
But the proof of heroics look like a good way to level my elite specializations. Should I venture into wvw?

Or should I try and get all the hero points by running across tryia?
I never have had much good luck doing world completion, it’s all bad luck, some of the highlights so far are:
Giant undead chicken spawning on my head and squishing me flat,
A group of enemies playing soccer with my character until I got knocked over the edge of a cliff,
Getting eaten alive by a fire elemental that was immune to damage,
And the game deciding “Kitten you in particular.” and threw me into the stratosphere
(It was before gliders so I died on landing.)
As such I am scared of getting hero points that way.
But PVP doesn’t give hero points and neither do fractals/dungeons.

I’m scared of these but I want my elite specialization.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I’ve done okay in parts of the game I play. I have 9 characters, one of each type, all 80 elites. All have ascended weapons, ascended coat and pants, and a full set of ascended jewelry (thanks to LS3). I have all crafters to max level. One can do those things one handed, for sure.

I raised the first two with the Been There Done That approach, soloing everything. I raised the rest gathering mats for Ascended weapons/armor (sell excess, buy what can’t be farmed at the TP). I hated to waste all that gathering experience on level 80’s, so rolled another character and out they went. The rose to 80 in the rags they got from drops, then at 80 got a full set of exotic, and ascended weapon(s), and were sent out to solo a champion. Any champion. That’s how I learned to play the class, rather than the occasional skirmish while gathering. I don’t think it’s too big a deal to kill a champion, as many can kill lot tougher ones that I have, but it’s my test for did I learn the class. C’est la vie. Fun to figure it out and do. I’ve died a lot of course, but got it done. That earned them an ascended coat, pants and full set of jewelry. If I couldn’t play them well enough to solo it, they just sat there camping some chest nightly until I could, or ran World Bosses gathering ectos.

I’ve avoided PVP and instances. PVP because I don’t twitch well, and instances because I can’t keep up with folks who have run them for years and just run through. I hold them up, and the loot is no better than open world bosses. I must have run several thousand instances in another game, so I didn’t miss it.

Wow, that’s impressive, I like how you too found a way to enjoy the game.
It’s funny though, I love pvp and instance play but I don’t do very much in open world or crafting. It’s kinda like we are inverted in playstyles.

My hat is off to you.

I both applaud you and envy you.

I too have roughly the same handicap, one good hand and about .2 of the other. I applaud you because you play. Good for you.

I envy you because you play things I can’t. It’s a “twitch” game, and I can’t twitch and run a good sequence without needing the 2nd hand more than what I can do with it.

I understand DPS to a fare the well, so know what I should be doing, but haven’t found a way yet.

Good hunting.

Well, if you are in North America send me a mail ingame, I would be happy to help you figure out a way to play better! :-)

Exactly as title says, we have legacy armor track so could we please get a legacy weapon track? Since we don’t have pvp only gear sets why don’t we get them as skins? I’d love to get my hands on the dark moon shield or primitive pillar.
Or maybe just rename the legacy armor track “Legacy reward track” and add these to the final box?

Well… the chances are infinitesimal and there is no way to farm these so there’s really no way this could affect the market, I appreciate the replies.
Thanks!

How far back would the history change go? Imagine if the flame legion had defeated Kalla and the other legions if that happened I guess all the “Modern” charr would be renegade or enslaved, and humans would be on the verge of extinction probably.

But if that had happened maybe the flame legion could have taken out kryta? And picture the charr even marching on the grove or Rata sum, although the charr probably would still be primitive and wouldn’t have all the modern tech they have now.
