We Rangers Adapt and overcome: We are Resilient. So what is with all of the crying and whining. I thought we had out grown that.
It seems some of the veteran Rangers have gone silent and our younglings have gotten a little hair on their chest and are making demands.
Ranger learn thy craft. If you can only play one build then you haven’t learned this class very well. If you can only play the flavor of the month build then you are just a visitor among the Ranger core. Mostly likely you will jump ship when your build take the slightest of nerfs.
Those of use who have play the class for a year have a different outlook than those who have only played the class for 1-6 months.
To suggest that we rangers stop helping each other and stop posting builds and video will only weaken us. The fist incarnation of a build is never the strongest.
We Rangers have gotten stronger because of all the videos and builds and guidance that our vets and new players have shared. He have shared our vision for the class with one another. We all don’t have the same dream yet we are stronger because of the shared communication.
Not sharing your build for spvp doesn’t do anything if its really that good someone will go into spectator mode and check out your set up so the only ones your hurting are the rest of your brothers and sister by not helping and giving advice.
Some of You complain that Anet doesn’t respond to post. I don’t think they have to the forum is for us. So that we can help one another. We don’t have to worry about someone phishing for info about our account so they can hack it later.
If you have a suggestion there is a suggestion forum use it. If you what know what other rangers think before you make an official suggestion then by all means post in the ranger forum.
Are you crying because your post got deleted. Well did you provide any solution or where you just kittening about choices Anet has made.
This isn’t WoW you don’t get a script to make everything work the way you want it.
If you think something isn’t working right put in a bug report if the reply is working as intend then share with the rest of us. You don’t like the choices Anet ‘s making you don’t have too. You what a reason why then here it is" We think it’s in the best interest of the game at this time."
Your want to know when they are putting something in the game. " It will be release when it’s ready" or “When the time is right”

There is no doubt that the ranger is a hard class to play. There are lots of ranger who have a great deal of success with this class and prefer it over any other class.
The difference between the rangers that have the greatest success with this class and the ones who do not is that the one who have the greatest success play the class that is before them. Not the class the hope the ranger to be. They adapt.
To build a good ranger it take more fine tuning. It takes better reaction times. As a ranger you are required to make less mistakes. As a warrior or Guardian you are permitted to eat so of the biggest attacks in the game and just shake it off. Thieves, Ele and Mesmers can disengage from a fight at will and it take very little skill to do so.
Necro and eng just need 10 second and your dead from condtion overload.
As a decent ranger skill level is above the average player. Some rangers can escape at will. The spirited build was nerf because when a ranger is on even ground he kicks kitten . Yes the build was a bit passive but no more than they other classes.
To Play a Ranger you must improve you must adapt you must have a deep desire to over come and never say die.
This isn’t for everyone, but no class is for everyone nor should they be. I play a ranger because its not OP because it’s not easy mode.
Are the issue with the ranger. Yes. I wish my pet scaled with my gear. I wish my pet followed closer to my side. I wish we had more aoe besides axes and traps (barrage does count and piecing isn’t enough (maybe a traited bouncing arrow instead) Pet die but if they die to often then its mostly the rangers fault. Anything that will down a player will kill a pet.
The Ranger core is strong. Rangers learn your strengths over come your weakness then go back build and develop more strengths. To do this you have to over come your fear. I myself am always testing myself. While I like my sword I always have a ranged backup but starting today I will go sword/x and GS. I will develop the skills to effectively run these set in all aspects of the game (exept when I’m farming nothing beats axes). I will run this until I’m satisfied with my performance. Until I’m one of those rangers that almost never die.
The 3 issue I mention are what I feel are the biggest issue outside of them I am happy with the Ranger class. I do not desire a stow option because I know what this class was when I created my ranger.
You get out of this class what you put into it.
I hated the 1h sword when I started and love it now (Proud owner of Bolt). It is really a learn to paly issue. People will suggest turning off autoattack but then it takes you longer to master this weapon. Learn when to use the weapon evades and learn when you are able to use your normal dodge. Turning off auto targeting is kind of required if you are using this weapon for stability.
We don’t have a get out of jail free card like other classes. We don’t have mechanism that we overly abuse and call it skill. We do however has access to most of the mechanisms. Kd, fear, stealth, immobilize, invulnerability and somewhat of an extra life bar by way of protect me.
Don’t try to play a ranger like you play the other classes. What modes do you play pvp, wvw or pve. Most ranger run different set-up for different modes.
A lot of ranger swear by condition builds. I find that its not the conditions that allow them to do well but its the tankiness that comes from such build. It is possible to have the toughness you need while having about 50% crit chance and decent power and 70- to 90 crit damge.
People can give a build that they use but I feel it better for you to create a build for yourself that suits your play style. A long the way you will find things a lot of other rangers miss.
If you haven’t complained about how terrible the 1h sword auto attack is to later master this weapon and found out how great it really is.
These trait do work for group play. Just as melee assume that everyone will stack on them Ranger traits are for those fighting at range.
This is content that is dominated by range combat like the Claw of Jormag. SB and the great destroyer have a lot of range combatants. Just as people build up stacks of might they should be doing the same when ranging.
Sometimes melee is the best for the job sometimes range. What needs to happen is people need to start coordinating range combat like they do with melee.
The player that is not using the best option is not helping the group whether he be melee or range.
There need to be more content that is geared toward range combat. This idea that everyone need to shift to melee is misguided. Again one should use the best option.
Even with what the OP proposes range damage is inferior to melee and this is why melee is normally the better option. Buffs and support aside Damage is why melee is the preferred method. I don’t believe that range should be equal to melee damage so all in all the mind of the players need to change when using range and there need to be more range combat.
Range combatans can always create advantage as well with good positioning.
Rangers are a pet class. If you dont want a pet dont pick a ranger. Pets are not as weak as mez clones or necros undead. To be a ranger you have to be able to multi-task. Be aware of where you and your pet are. To be a ranger you need to learn your weakness and the weakness of your pets.
Learn the AI. For example if you jump off a hill will your pet follow or run around. what about a cliff. How far does your pet have to be from you before it auto teleports to you. What is the range on guard. Is it affected by the auto teleport range.
Does guard time out.
If dodge this bosses aoe will the protection my pet gets from my dodge roll stop it from dieing. Can my pet daze or kd this Boss to interupt its big attack. Can Interupt its big attack to same my pet. Will my heal save my pet. Doe swapping my pet recharge its non f2 skills (still).
These are just some basics. Knowing little things like this are why good ranger are good. Why some people think rangers are fine and other think they are useless.
Now the other trick is to use what you know. I am positive that those of you who know all the little tid bits and can execute the effectively are the one who like the class and do very well. And those of you Who cant do both are the ones having trouble.

There seem to be a growing consensus that If your not this class or that class you have not place in wvw. That is just non sense. Some say soloing supply camps doesnt help that is bull. You cant do anything as a server without supplies. Even 1 vs 1 builds contribute. If you kill one defender or envader who was going to join thier zerg that helps. Solo roamer are also scouts they relay heading and count of an enemy zerg.
As far a ranger as a class spirits provide great support for thier allies. while few if any ranger use them. Before you say warrior banner are better they are not the are different. While for the most part they provide stat bonuses which you can get via food and the like. Ranger provide different buff like 10% damage or protection which only complements a warriors banner.
The real issue is the play style of the ranger as a community. While there are those who are very sucessful with thier ranger most are not. One reason is a large majority are trying to burst like thieves. Rangers have very good sustained damage. Our damge is what it is.
The control role is pretty much defined but But we need to make more improvements here.
The Support role is where I think a ranger can really shine but there is really no glory in it.
The first problem is the image of the ranger. Those of you who only see rangers only as an archer are not helping matters. The ranger class mechanism is not the bow. Learn to use all the weopan at our disposal. We all have our favorite weapons but what I’m asking is you learn them all then decide which you like the best (this includes pets).
Second: our class mechanism spirits and pets. There are those of you who wish to get rid of our pets. It is part of the class. I hated builds in GW1 you were forced to give up two slots(Charm animal so your pet would accompany you and a heal/res skill for your pet) to have a pet. This isnt the case anymore your pet is with you know matter what. Not knowing how to use spirits and pets properly is like a thief not knowing how to steal stealth or backstab.
Dont give me that crap about spirits are to weak. Learn to work with it when I started my thief I was like what the hell am i going to do with a 1second stealth. I worked with it and I learned ( mind you I still suck with my thief). I played gw1 spirits there were like tissue paper. The last update increase thier hp by 25% you can trait them and double their health.
The ranger class is a discipline unlike the other profession. I once believed that Elementalist where the most complicated class. This is not true. The ranger class is.
I’m asking those of you who main a ranger like I do. To continues to learn your craft to keep grow in skill and help the ranger community as a whole. To stop with all of the negativity.
Nothing is wrong with asking for help but there is a diffence between:
1. I am running x dungeon and x mob keeps chasing my pet and i have tried stowing him. what else can I try
Vs
2. I am running x Dungeon and my pet is totally useless, My pet keep aggroing x mob anet suck what the hell is wrong with them not make pet perma stow.
Honestly I get tired of hearing it and Im sure im not the only one.
One of the complaint i hear the most is pets can hit a moving target sure they can.
They just have to be moving faster that the target. You can spec in two 30% move increase for your pet. crippling your target also helps. Its one of the reasons I love 1h so much. I aslo use a jaguar (it 100% crit in stealth and its hard to evade what you cant see) and a drake hound (if your laying on you back you cant run).
for those of you who say pets cant tank anything. I find my pet do fine against anything that doesnt one shot a player. My pet can stay alive vs the troll in ac and the Lt the key is to interupt there big attack. knowing which of your skill can interrupt is key to keeping your self alive and your pet. Interrupt were a keep part of a rangers role in GW 1 I dont see why it cant be in GW2.
Pet ai isn’t meant to replace human control and making the AI to good would be OP.
I don’t see how those of you who want a pet stow power boost option can’t see how it would affect those who choose to use the pet.
The player base believes sheer power is best. It like choosing between batman and superman. While batman can get the job done and has a lot of gagets and utilities to help like a pet ranger. Then you have Superman just Dominating with sheer Power.
Batman is very skilled and takes more skill to do what he does he is just a man who uses the right tool for the job at the right time. That masses what superman because he is perceived to be better. No matter how many times superman fails or dies he is still perceived as better.
I like being a Ranger because it takes skill and isn’t just smash smash. Having a pet stow option would force rangers into a more power role.
This is how it would affect Rangers across the board.
projectile just dont stop once they reach thier max ranges. they continue to travel. You just have to press the button as auto attack wont work once they are out of range.
The range neft may not be that bad.
Range isnt the only factor for picking a weapon.

Don’t hold the space bar down when you jump.
Start using our best dps weapon set. Your trying to play it safe with Lb and then complain its isn’t enough.
Using a weapon set that require a target against classes that stealth making them untargetable really isn’t the best way to play. You were at a disadvantage before you event started.
Your rank doesn’t mean anything there is always something to learn and to improve upon.
We all die. The thing is how. Did they have to chase you down a kill you like a dog. Did you just lay down and die. Did stand your ground and fight tooth and nail and take as many as you could with you. Even after being dispatch did you come back more determine, wiser after seeing their tactics and play style.
We don’t have it easy and ranger wouldn’t be my main if we did, but we rangers adapt we overcome. When we dispatch someone it’s us that does it. It not the class that carries us.
When a ranger is good he is kitten good. When its a thieve or Mesmer it very questionable.
There are plenty of counters for lb rangers. The fact that one doesn’t consider it a high enough priority to use it doesn’t mean that its op and/or unbalanced.
The reason that LB ranger are not used in high lvl pvp is because most build naturally counter rangers at that level. Even if this wasn’t the case Rangers lack inherent defence that a lot of the classes have. 10 second or less the ranger would be dead or his target needs to be dead.
Not to mention that ranger is mainly single target lot of classes output more dps as their skills are aoe and hit more then one target.
Yes, ranger is unbalance as one reflect skill can kill and infinite number or rangers.
Rangers could be calling for a nerf to reflect but that would be ridiculous as all the ranger had to do is stop his rapid fire. The same is so with those calling for nerfs to the ranger because there was a smart choice to make but they didn’t make it.
Dps wise Rangers are not in the top 3. Ranger damage is decent but not op. Ranger need some sort of inherent defense. Mesmer get stealth, close and the rules for targeting have been change for them (clone cant as player for targeting ).
Ranger have a pet to tank for them, but even mobs bypass them most of the time. Player disregard them( except thieve).
Not to mention that if you go up against a tanky warrior as a zerker ranger with the amount of healing and toughness he posseses you are pretty much done not to mention you cant run because he can out run you.
A thief can kill in like 3 hit but people are crying because they take 10 arrows to the face and live. At least with a ranger its your own fault for not being aware of your surrounding. With a thief most of the time you don’t see them coming because they are in stealth.
This was once a l2p issue ,but at this point in time its an adapt or die issue.
Rangers do have issues but being op isn’t one of them.
These video don’t really prove anything. Ranger have always been able to do that. Its just a tad faster now. This just prove a ranger can gank as well as a thief.
You can’t balance a game around bad players. What was broken was the dodge key on just about everyone of them. This is a compilation video highlight his easiest kills.
What about a hard battle won. There is a place for video like this but in a discussion about whether this skill or skills are op is not one of them.
All of his kills were not long range kill.
Range damage has more counters than melee, yet not a single one was used.
Using footage like this as proof for why it should be nerf, just shows how unskilled the players are that are pushing for the nerf.
Those of you complaining simply need to step your game up or present a ranger laying waste to a decent group of players.

Every class can do the gauntlet but not every spec in the class can. One may have a preferred play style or build but you the play need to realize that it may not work for all things. It not the class or anet that failed you. It’s the player that refuses to at minimum to became proficient in the builds available; that failed the class.
As fakitten ts go my pet was alive a dealing damage on each of my boss kills including Liadri. As a ranger it’s easier to have you pet hold agro if you use the long bow. Hunters shot stealth’s you and if your pet deal damage to mob while your stealth mobs normally aggros onto your pet.
Ranger and thier pet are a team. It doesnt matter which role the master or pet play but they need to work in tandom. This just proves how bad the player is not the pet.
If two object are moving in the same direction and the same speed but one of the object start its journey 3 seconds after the the other then that object will reach it destination 3 seconds behide the first object. Unless something changes. This isnt rocket science.
Rangers having trouble with the canach dungeon are simply rangers playing the class poorly.
Learn the pathing of your pet. On a flat surface its pretty much a straight line to the target. If you send your pet in and it detonates a mine its the rangers fault most of the time. If canach is on the run (chasing a target) it the its the whole teams fault.
First the kitter isnt leading Canach to another mine that is active in a logical manner. Second the team should of actived all near by mines to avoid unwanted detonation.
If you are standing in the corner and are simply trying to activate just the two closes mines becuase it to confusing to do otherwise then the ranger class is probably to hard for you.
Like Chopps some pet arent affected by kiting as much. But I would stay jaguars are also in that catagory if you use thier them properly. Anyone who know how to fight (boxer or Martial artist) knows you dont follow an opponent in a circle, but you cut thur the circle and meet him on the other side. Call your pet to you side then sending him to attack would do this added by the fact that you pet can stealth before going out bound. This would also work with swapping in a canines as thier first attack is a leap kd and there they will follow with a cripple.
Most of the video’s like this really show the failling of the player rather than the class. Some people complain that ranger have a set it and forget it pet. This is not the case. If you think this is the case and you dont play a ranger its understandable. If play a ranger and you think this then you have alot to learn ablout the class. Other classes have a set it a forget it pet. Rangers do not nor should we.
If you want to get better you have to play ranked. Playing anything else isn’t going to teach you how to play ranked.
I didn’t make it pass the first boss but I change from zealot to zerker without any real noticeable difference. Our fails were due to bad tanking and failing to get to circles.
I just use staff to fill up my astral force and only used CA when we made big errors.
I do lvl 30’s factals and I never have a problem finding a group. Some om y eaiest run have been with mostly ranger teams. I find that groups with guardians have the most trouble. while they can make somethings a little easier they are not required and they tend to leave groups needing more dps.
Im all for doing my part just as long as everyone else is as well like using potion on x slaying and sigil of night. If you cant do what you can don’t look to me. People always like pointing the finger.
Honestly I find optimized group play boring as hell. In fact you kill thing so fast that most dungeon mechanic don’t come in to play. Stealth and porting can make a run faster but I feel it lets new and old player by pass skill development.
I know a lot of people who can complete ac without and ele or make it to the bosses in cm without stealth.
A true test of you character is what happen when everything doesnt go smoothly and flawlessly. Those of you who what optimal can always run with your guildmate and friends. I love puging with min lvl groups they are the most fun and yes it takes long but so what. It suppose to be about fun why run an dudngeon in 4 minute just to spend 6 looking of another group.
I am all for teaching ranger on how to improve, but part of learn the class is trying stuff out. I feel on of the reason so many player have a problem with zerk lb ranger is they never learned what the class can do.
While at the same time dismissing skill because they are not optimal meanwhile disregarding the stress of skill. This topic in pve it is a problem in all game modes.
The 1h sword is one of the best weopans we have. To master the ranger you will need to master this weapon. Easiest is to learn to use it without attack off. Once you get use to it you can but auto attack back on. I have no problem with my dodge. If you Learn the timing you can dodge. Be aware you will jump back into combat if you are on one of the leap attack if you dont cancel your attack. At lower skill/reflex level you can also esc then dodge.
The 1h sword isnt expected to change. So Rangers do what you do best adapt and overcome.
The Ranger class comes from The Hobbits and Lord of the Rings in the Form okittenorn who was extremmly found of his horse.(in 1953 predating D&D). Anyone who played D&D should Know Drittz Do’Urden who was a very skilled Ranger with scimtars and bow who also travelled with a jaguar.
The vision of these Rangers are what Rangers were meant to be. Anet has simply rekindle the Ideal of the original Ranger. Anyone using a bow is an archer so that would include warriors and thieves.
To me it makes sense that anyone traveling a lot or spending time in the wilds would befriend an animal.
Removing the pet from the class would just create bigger issues. The first being that arrow are easily avoided. This is not a major issue now as pet are a source of damage and in many cases provide some form of cc. While pets can be avoided as well, it a lot more difficult to avoid the Ranger and his pet and deal damage at the same time.
Playing a Ranger imho is more difficult than other classes. Both of the heavy class have a lot of armor and a lot of healing. Other classes can run away very easily. Necros have an extra life bar and a minion army. Thieves and mesmers have a lot of stealthing and blinking.
For a class that is suppose to travel a lot a lot of classes can out run us with great ease. While some Ranger are very good at escaping. It is very clunky and beyond the abilities of a lot of rangers.
I wish more people would look at other issue the Rangers have other than damage. The pet is always the scapegoat on this topic. The few rangers who hunt thieves know that damage isn’t the only thing that matters.
Most people wont auto kick you, but after one or two engagements they see that you are not using melee they will kick you.
As Thrag said your damage is fair below that of your group you are dead weight and your making the run that much harder more so when you are playing on a non gear up character that isn’t level 80.
On Boss fight with no adds it does matter as much, but at the same time you dps can still be far lower as the rest of the group maybe adding might stacks. So If you are not fighting with your group you are possibly losing +750 power and condition damage.
It’s not all about you. You are part of a team. I will admit that I don’t run frost spirit and I don’t run banner on my warrior (phalanx strength with the right amount of crit more valuable to pugs especial those under lvl 80), unless I’m in a group running everything they need including consumables, then ill add it plus my consumables.
All classes have ranged play. Ranger does not mean archer. You what to play Robin Hood then do so in open world where lack of cleave doesn’t affect anyone but you.
On a side note: A lot of classes are getting the ability to reflect and destroy projectiles. Im betting this will extend to mobs as well. My advice, learn to use the one-handed sword (I didn’t say gs).
Condi cleanse is not equal to breathing. But if it were it like saying you have a cold and refuse to breath through your mouth. Of course breathing through your mouth is the best option but its no the only option.
I would be all in favor of them taking the gs or axe trait out of bm line and switching it switching it with eb at least that is more pet related.
Im also guessing most of you having trouble with this probably play condi build. Condi build inherently have it all without having to make the tough choices, but I could be wrong.
Anet has learned that if anything is said players take the information and run with it. When what has bee said changes it causes more problem then remaining silent (players rage some quit and forums blow up).
There are also to many outlets for dispensing information. Anet has said that the root on the sword was working as intend yet people still ask we they will fix this bug. One dev said (on twitch) they will look into the root on sword 2 year later people are still using that quote. When later a forum post say he looked into and the changes he tried had a very minor affect and wouldn’t be implemented.
Anet has always said that nothing is certain until it goes live. They have clearly stated this many times: yet people still call anet liars for not doing what they have said.
Yet you people wonder why anet isn’t more forthcoming. Every week we see post about pet stow but, anet has stated they have no plans of ever doing it. This could change but this decision is solely anets.
We all have thing we would like to see in the game, but when you are demanding stuff I really think your out of line. I Think to many people are used to modding games (in one way or another) and don’t know how to get good or enjoy the game they have.
A suggestion is just that and some people act like anet must do x. I think GW2 is the best game out at the moment is it perfect no but what is.
Suggestion and concerns are always good. More transparency isn’t always the best. We get a lot of information from anet. The issue is its not the information you want but, its not all about you.
Anets priority is doing whats best for the game as a whole, not whats best for your main class.
The solution of having pet name on client side may not work when its laggy culling can still be an issue at time but namely always show because it server side. What happens if you remove the name client side pet with no name would be bad. Creating a check is just more work.
Rangers act like anet doesn’t like ranger but they have put more work into the ranger just with the 45 pets and accompany skills. We also have the luna wolf. Maybe we don’t appreciate the work that has gone into the ranger. Do we need work yes, but to say anet hate rangers is bs.
It’s not called cash shop it’s the gem store. There is so much gold floating around right now there is no excuse not to change gold into gems and get the skins like everyone else.
For most encounters no class is always dps’ing (there are exception like cof). There isnt the conventional trinity in Gw2. However people still have that mentality. People try to make the Guardian and the Ele the healer class. No class can heal a party alone. As far as dps warriors go they are usually the first to fall. Guardians damage is meh.
Some people have stop playing cuz they feel like they dont have a specific role in a group.
The no trinity thing isnt new. Old school games like Ultima Online had no trinity. It took everyone to kill things like the Darkfather. Yes Tames and dex monekys had a big role but they had to keep themselves alive and the man or beast next to them.
Gw2 is the same. My fernshound regen isnt alot but every bit helps. The Healing spring isnt alot but the condtion removal helps. It’s all the little parts that make groups works not just the dps. I would run with any Dungeon with 5 Ranger than 5 of any class. We may not be the best in any one area but we can help in all.
I couldn’t careless about how other classes view Rangers. As a Ranger I am free to do as I like. I look at the other classes and I see classes with gimmick abilities that have pigeon holed them into certain roles.
In wvw we don’t have a dedicated role. I feel that is our role if the other class are so valuable in their role then it really a shame to use the for anything else. Except with the way wvw is having more x classes in your zerg vs having more y class in your zerg really doesn’t matter. Because at the end of the day it comes down to the size of your zerg and the skill of the players participating.
The most notable of us Rangers show we can kick butt. In ever aspect of the game there are rangers that show us we can do it well. That we do make a difference for the better.
Some people cling to the old image of the ranger. I still hear people complaining about rangers pet aggroing. Ranger pets haven’t aggro’ed for two months. Your pet doesn’t put you in combat but it can keep you in combat.
Yes there are issue with the class but the biggest problem is how people play the game.
We have issue with how pet don’t scale at all in terms of gear quality. So we don’t scale well with power. But power isn’t the end all and be all. Power can be nice but there are draw back to it. However since most players glitch/exploit most pve content
being fragile is negated. With that said have you notice warriors and thieves are usually the first one’s downed.
Lots of people love guardians in a group, but if I never had a guardian in my group again it would be to soon. I don’t normally run zerker so I don’t need him to help me stay alive. Their damage is crap most of the time they pop their shield or wall of reflect all willy nilly. It’s the Dps is king notion that makes time warp and protection so sought after.
Some say the Queens Guantlet proves how bad off rangers are. I have no problem completing most of the achievements. Hardest achievement was the High stack gambler. In the end I did it will a beast masters build. Liadri was difficult not because of damage issues more because of the bad camera angle. I didn’t do the light up the darkness but in all my fail attempts damage wasn’t the issue it was me failing to avoid her clone once again due to bad camera angle.
I hear rangers saying this skill is useless and that skill is terrible. Not all skill are optimal for everything but each skill has it’s use. Some of them not so obvious. I you the ranger don’t full understand and appreciate the range and strength of your abilities how are the other classes to know what we are capable of.
We don’t have a cheesy OP mechanism that we abuse. We don’t spam terror or confusion or retaliation or stun lock people. For the most part when a ranger beats someone its because the ranger beat you and not some Op cheesy mechanic.
It has been proven that if you give loot from mobs in events people prolong event to farm the mobs or fail events to have them reoccur. This would be the same for xp since they are tied to masteries look at cof farm.
We abuse the system and anet tries to find ways to limit those abuses. and cof isn’t ban-able I’m sure anet will take steps to limit this kind of stuff in the future and why we don’t get loot or xp during events.
Early on a Rangers pet tanks for the Ranger. Later on Mob bypass your pet. Those Ranger who can not adapt to the change soon find themselves feeling underpowered or uselss. Those that can adapt and continue to uncover the mystery that is the ranger continue to have fun and are effective in PvX.
Range damage in general is lower than melee couple that with 30% of our damage coming from our pets. So with that said you wont see big numbers. You have to consider your pet damage and your attack speed.
If you want to use long bow then a power set up is best. With sb you can run either power or conditions but the best approach is rampages and go for a bleeder crit build while using k9’s or spider to cc your target so you can flank.
As a ranger you have to play defensively but aggressively at the same time. Does it get better yes it does.
As a Ranger you need atleast a 25 or 30 point trait. You wont get that until lvl 60. But more importantly you will learn to over come your weakness’s and exploit the strengths and weakness of other classes. Dps is not as important as learning the fore mentioned skill sets.
It’s been calculated in a couple other threads that Rapid Fire is mostly only effective at short to short-medium range. At medium-long to max range, your auto-attack will be on par (or higher) in damage in the same time it takes RF to finish. Just something to keep in mind.
Its important note that most test are done with one set up or another. That doesnt mean that it’s the best set up for all the weapons being tested.
It is important to use the right weapon for the job. This includes pets. While the post says dps he also implies that use a long bow and bear are not a good idea.
Which isnt the case. Even If going for dps having a bear can mean that your pet can hold aggro, which in turn means other in your group dont have to evade or heal as much improving overall dps. There is more that one way to meet an objective in a group.
It hammers home how important dodgeing is. The troll has a very long animation before it stomps. They can only hold your hand so long. Also it isnt the first time players have encountered a troll in Queendale there is the champion troll. It works the same way and I believe it’s a level 12 area. So by level 30 this shouldn’t be new to you.
The ranger pet is suppose to be treated as part of the ranger, yet in actuality for the most part it is treated like a summoned rock dog. Necros and mesmers have pets of sort they can even be buffed by traits.
The little control we have over our pets really doesn’t justify the damage lose and lack of scaling.
I PvP mainly and I haven’t found any problems with the ranger in 1v1s, except thiefs of course. Yea, maybe I can’t use greatsword whirlwind and whip out 10k damage, but after playing for so long and understanding how every single class works, I find that the ranger can easily kill every class (except thief). I don’t get where all this negative talk about the ranger is coming from. If it’s about PvE, then I wouldn’t know cause I don’t do any dungeons.
Lol we can’t whirlwind for 10k but we sure as hell can rapid fire for +10k! Masters of the bow indeed!!
@Rest if people; I’m really dumbfounded that our class mechanic didn’t deal with our nature attunement (expertise) or preparations, because those were significantly more “ranger” in GW1 than pets, granted pets were a big thing, but it’s like MM for necros, not everyone used it, but kitten near every ranger had a ton of expertise and a prep or two!
This isnt GW1. In GW1 you had two profession that fact alone is a huge departer from GW1. The trinity has changed (even thought some of you can’t get it out of your head). People compare traits, perks and mechanisms. They are not the same. In Gw2 if its on your fkey its a mechanism. Fkeys are not the only mechanism for some classes. If its tie to a weapon the it is also a mechanism like mesmer clone and thieves stealthing.
When you refuse to learn you class core mechanism you are serverally gimping your class. What is a thief without stealing,backstab and stealthing. Or a Mesmer without clones. Of course you can chose not to use these things just as some rangers refuse to manage thier pets. Yes you can chose to be an Ele and stay in water attunement but then you are cutting your damage in half.
Traits can buff your mechanisms. Perks are thing that are nice to have but not required.
When asking to have a core mechanism changed you need a better arguement than:
1) Why do I have to do xx when other classes dont have to xx.
2)I don’t want to learn how to x and its broken anyway. (What you say has no weight until you have learned it).
3)I don’t like this \it wasn’t in GW1.
Once you have an arguement that does contain one of these present a solution thats not going to require 1000 man hrs. to implement unless it affect everyone or at least 1/3 of the population (guard comes to mind as it affected WvW). A ranger specific problem affects 1/8 of the population if all classes were equally played.
When you have a solution take the time to come up with possible abuses or side effect of adding said improvent or solution.
Having the option for taking or not taking a pet in trade for damage would result in players who chose to use pets being scorned because the player base is wrongly or rightly damage centric. Which in turn would make a core mechanism obselete. Making rangers pets (40 + pets) a non-functioning appendage. Reducing Rangers to a generic light armored warrior.

If you no longer want to participate in an ‘awful group’ you could always leave the map. If you have no confidence the map will succeed, do something else or try to get into a different IP. No need to punish the whole map to make sure it doesn’t succeed.
Alternately you could step up and try to lead. Don’t wait 45 minutes for people to figure things out f you know the information. Tell people in map chat, and those around you in say chat. Invite people to a group, tell them what to do at each pod. You have choices other than standing around waiting for things to fail.
This is new content for everyone. It may be someone’s first experience with the map or the mechanics of the fight. Give people time and they will figure things out and maps will get more organized; especially if you pitch in and help without being negative.
You assume too much. Instructions were clearly given and the meta event also clearly tells you what to do. If you have morons ruining the event, there should be a way to end the event without the whole kitten thing taking 45 minutes.
People need to be reminded – constantly. Not everyone has done this fight a bunch of times or at all.
Again why should there be a fail mechanic? If you’re having trouble dealing with it – leave. Why are you sticking around the fight? It makes no sense to punish everyone because you don’t know how to work with others.
Again, you assume too much.
There should be a fail mechanic to prevent 45 minute slugfests in disorganized maps. There should be punishments handed out for failure.
I stick around for the fight because I want the rewards, obviously.
And saying that I can’t “work with people” or that I should “take leadership” is laughable. Get over yourself.
There is already a failure mechanic. You just don’t like how long it takes to reach it. If you have no faith in the maps ability to complete the event, why would you stick around on the same map to only fail again.
While you claim others assume to much, it appears you haven’t full explored your own line of thinking. What you want is a series checks. Which would only lead to more failure as every phase would be gated behind a check. Making it more likely players encounter more events they haven’t seen before.
As it is now players can see all the events the first time through and be more prepare for future attempts.
One needs to look at the bigger picture. Not just the little red circle issue. I dont want my pet to dodge when I dodge.
If I have to kite one or more targets while my stealth jaguar is riping one of them a new one I dont what to waste his damge becuase I dodge twice during his six second stealth negating around 4k damage or more because my pet has to get back into postion after each roll most likly negating his whole stealth. This would affect all pet KD and special attacks.
Adding dodge when I dodge means my pet is dealing no damage when it Dodges. Pet already have issues with hit moving targets this would increase this problem.
I like the fact that will I kite my pet still does damge. Dont fix one problem by creating a bigger one.
Alot of you complain about how long it takes to fix issues and why doesnt anet listen to the community.
This is an example of why. Alot of your solution will fix an issue in one area while creating a bigger issue or issues else where.

It is known that melee does greater damage in general than range acroos all classes.
There are over 40 pets training them would be a pain as it is ranger have to go into the world and seek out their pets. While this is fun on your first char I can see how it can be an annoying hindrance for alts.
I also would rather they work on other issue with the ranger other that working on fluff.
Just no and hell F no. Rapid fire isn’t op. No rangers should not discuss how we could nerf it.
Anet has taken along time to give this class a real buff after 2 years. I have faith that they are not completely out of touch. To nerf rangers anytime in the next 6 months would just prove they are clueless.
Class are not one skill or even eight. They are the some of its parts. It how it mitigates or absorbs damage. Active and passive defense and offense. Its whether is primary weapon set are melee or aoe.
Talking about an aoe melee skill vs a primarily single range skill is ridiculous. Rapid fire damage is made of multiple projectiles it has an animation.
Those of you who keep bandwagoning on the newest perceive op class will never be really any good.
If you fail to adapt you will die. Just as all the ranger youngling who have failed to adapt. The Ranger core is strong because all the weak have been culled. Right now there are so many bad ranger because they have not be tried and tested. It is possible for a good GC ranger 1 vs 3 bad rapid fire ranger. If this spec is so op that shouldn’t happen.
With all range attack there is a possibility to have it reflected back at you unlike melee.
PVE’er now the power of reflect against range bosses. It one of the ways people get great times against Arah dungeon bosses. Seems Pve’ers maybe understand how the game works better than some of pvp’ers
I want to see more Rangers in wvw fing stuff up. Core member know it possible to get 4-5k on aa. 5 or 10 Ranger working together. I can dream cant I (a lot of ranger roam solo).
No all gamer are guys or butch girls. My girl is kind of a princess and she likes the dreamer but I dout she will ever get one. Being she isnt really goal oriented and unless she stock piles enough gold to just buy one she wont put in the effort.
But I dont think all weapons need to appeal to guys and need something for the few real girlly females in the game like the dreamer and the kudzu.
Legendary Weapon will get a stat bonus once ascended weopans are available. Once you have all the armor you need and 20 slot bags. What are you going to spend your gold on. What will you do with all the skill points you earn once you have unlocked all your skill. you can passively go for a legendary just incase you change your mind later on.
Dps calculation don’t mean anything if the method for those calculation are not clear. To say don’t bring a ranger if you want good dps is plain bs.
Was the pet damage included (which pet), did you have 25 stacks of might. Did you use spotter and frost spirite. Did you include the druid damage buff. What weapon did you use. Vs what target. What class are you using as a damage comparison.
Rangers bring a number of unique buffs and while their personal dps isn’t the best (nor the worst) their ability to bump the groups dps out weights any short commings they have.
Ever class complains about thier class. There are issue with rangers but there are issues with every class. While some view rangers as inferior there are others who think its a very good class.
Rangers are great in all aspect of the game. There are rangers who dominate in aspect of the game they enjoy. Dont believe me fine but do a couple youtube searches. while They arent may rangers who do. That just tells me it more of a LTP issue with a higher learning curve.
Some say ranger have the worst down state. I have to disagree for the simple fact while down our pets can skill do damge. A ranger can actually rally even if he is still being attacked. stealthing and mist form are just grief tacts but in the end they still die unless they are lost in the comotion.
In WWW you can send your pet into keeps and towers to kill foes hinding out as well as destory siege equipement. Yes you may have to send your pet in a couple of time but it can get the job done.
Some say pet are to squish but they are ok yes the die in aoe fields but a player would die as well. For me it isnt a issue I have a marco bound to both my f3 and v key so i can call my pet to me and dodge at the same time ( razer naga). I use this mainly when i am meleeing.
Ranger 1h sword is the highest dps weopan we have. Some ranger refuse to us it. Either because it goes agains their idea of what a ranger should be or they dont like the sword rooting and refuse to turn auto attack off. I tend to turn it off but i am learning to play with it on. There is a way you can dodge when every you want. But even if you havent figured it out you can evade alot with the sword anyway.
Those who stick to just one or two weopan set tend to have the biggest issues. In my time as a ranger I have come to love each of our weopans for what they bring to the table.
The beast master healing build is not my cup of tea, but I have learned alot playing around with it. I have added some of the element and tactics to my other build.
So what I saying is play with other build even if they dont suite your play style you may learn something useful that can be utilized by your current build or a future one.
We are rangers stop worrying about what other classes can do or dont have to do and learn what this class can do.
Dont let other people with different play styles tell you what is what. Find your own niche and if you cant maybe this class isnt for you.

I love ranger and hate my thief. Now to be honest i suck big time on my thief. Everything comes down to two things invis backstab (back attack regardless of weopan) or sb aoe. I find something new about rangers almost everyweek. And the more i play my other char the more i realize how versatile rangers really are.
Players like to blame Anet for all thier troubles. While ranger does have some issues alot of them can be overcome by just know the class.
Alot of other issue are created by the players play style and or combat tactics. What has become the normal tactic for completing most dungeons are not suited to the ranger. That doesnt mean that the ranger is bad it mean that the tactic is.
The other issue is that many don’t think ahead. We know that taking fall damage unstows our pet. So why don’t you guard your pet before your jump. Between the guard and the stow you dont ever really have to deal with your pet.
Don’t put everything on Anet. They have no Idea what will become the norm for dealing with x mobs or x dungeon. Not to meantion that over half of the ways you deal with these things are exploits. Ranger do fine in normal play (mileage will vary according to the expeince of the player).
Most power build use gs because most ranger never learned to use 2h sword.
Having pet evade when rangers evade would be a nerf. If pets evade when the player evaded they would be out of position all of the time.
Smarter pets equal smarter mobs the ai is tied and even if pet could be smarter. Ai shouldn’t do most of the damage.
They have given us an answer on this topic and you can feel how you want about the answer. The gave us a short not technical answer. You can think it’s bs but then you don’t understand all the finer points. Would adding the names delay pet swapping or incur more summoning sickness for pets when swapped. There is already some skill delay at times. Would saving all those names be like adding 40 unique skills for each ranger.
The bottom line they don’t want too. Could they change thier mind when whatever is holding them back is no longer an issue sure. Accept the things you can’t change. If you can change it then change it and be done with it.
You guys always want justification for what they decide. Bottom line they feeling it’s in the best interest of the game.

You have a right to complain all you want. When you complain to much and don’t bring anything to the table people learn to just skip over your post.
I disagree with the op. We all know ranger have some issue but it not as kittenome people say it is. The ranger is the second most popular class. Those of you who cant melee and can’t use your pet properly just make it harder on yourselves.
I wish there was a GW2 Olympics classess would compete in varior catagories. I think rangers would have a higher metal count than any other class. But that’s just me.
A Ranger and his pet are a team a lot of rangers want to be the lone Ranger, but even he was part of a team. Moving so your can help you. While it’s possible to kite the pet or the rangers arrow. If they can do both at the same time you are doing something wrong. I have heard Rangers say they put their pets on passive. I Totally understand why these people think the class is underpowered. They willing give up 30% of their damage in every encounter. heaven forbid if they fight a high toughness target or one with protection.
There are problem with pets but I don’t believe its the ai.
BM build are still viable so the ai isn’t completely useless. Without my pet I could never be a thief as it is now I win 80% of my 1v1 with thieves.
Many people are looking for something or someone to blame when they don’t perform well. Every class has issues. The biggest issue I have with the Ranger class is the pet but it’s not the ai. Its the fact pets don’t class as the ranger gear is upgraded.
The other is while we can burst there is a very long cd in between.
What the Ranger class lacks is an over abused mechanism like stealth, Fear and terror. I am grateful that we don’t have one. Each fight with my ranger is different not the same every time it’s probably why lots of people enjoy playing the class even when they think the class is underpowered.
Ultimately it’s about having fun and yes there has been people who have left the class there will always be people who shy away from challenges and people who like things easy or simply like things different.
There are a lot of people who play Ranger if the class was as broken as some of you claim no one would play it.
