I’m confused what do you mean a “gem tax”?
There’s not a tax for cash transactions with A-net from my experience… 50$ purchase from the black lion = 50$ gem cash card.
If its a state tax, thats not A-net :P
Do you mean when you buy gems with gold? If so, I really don’t think in game gold tax vs RL money tax is a good comparison.
Buying gems with US dollars.
I have never paid tax on a gem card purchase.
But Anet stopped selling gem cards in Houston Texas at Targets and Gamestops, once they stopped selling cards at these retailers I had to start buying them through bltc with a credit card and now a $20 gem puchase cost $21.80
Other game or gift card purchases … in store or online does not charge me tax.

Check Best Buy in Houston. According to their web site, they have them in stock.
Amazon also has them in stock.
(edited by Southern.8973)
Can’t help but feel like a reference to the Boston Tea Party is ill-advised here.
Gift Cards with a $ value (should) not be taxed in any state. For instance, a $25 Gift Card to Best Buy should not have sales tax on it, as the tax will be collected when the card is redeemed.
Technically, a Gem Card isn’t a Stored Value card, so it should have tax attached to it. Maybe they still treat it like a gift card, though. Who knows.
Online Sales shouldn’t be taxed unless the company has a physical presence in the state — which NCSoft does, as they have an office in Austin, Texas. So most likely that’s why they charge tax for folks in Texas (or California, or Washington)..
As far as Steam goes, it’s the same way – they charge tax if you live in Washington (because they’re based in WA) but you shouldn’t pay tax anywhere else in the US. If you’re overseas they have to pay VAT, but they eat it.
I hope next year they just turn off the servers. Would be more fun. or at least as much as this…
Now THAT would be one heck of a joke.
Hope they keep that in mind for next year.
Seriously? People are trying to link running around like a 5-year old making airplane noises with a real-life airplane crash?
Guess I better tell my grandson he’s no longer allowed to do that, for fear he might offend somebody.
I’m an rper, my chosen mode of play is unplayable. And maybe they’ll learn to put in a option for those of us who found it amusing at first, but quickly became annoyed with it. Sorry there are people out there who don’t want to endure a joke for a day or more, but we do exist.
You have 364 other days where you can RP all you want.
This is a SINGLE day. Is it really that much of an issue? And if it is, maybe it would be good to simply take a break from the game for a day and do something else instead? Why should they bother spending more time than necessary on something that will only ever be available for a single day?
An RP’er would find a way to work this effect INTO their RP. An evil spell by a sorcerer, a potion that tainted a water supply, a bad batch of ale. Try having fun with it.
500G may seem like an entirely arbitrary number, but I guarantee it is not. I took a look at our mail data (believe me, you guys really like mail and there is a lot of data) and set the value based on that. At 500G, it is not only functionally effective, but also it will only impact 0.175% of our players during an entire month’s worth of mails (if an account would hit the restriction once per month/30 days).
Looking more directly at those transactions, a large majority (98.228%) of those mails are being sent by RMT or compromised accounts (after selling off everything of value on an account).
Yes, there are going to be some edge cases that this is going to bump into, and as we look more into the impact that this change will have, we might change the restriction. However, we feel that this change is going to significantly impact RMT in our game along with help remove a very large reason to compromise accounts.
This is just the first step in our plan to help users keep their accounts secure. More will come as we progress through the year (and forevers!).
But 500G is not just mail amount but total amount, as-in “withdraw from guild bank” and “incoming mail” combined. Was that taken into account? If there are 3.5 million accounts, this change would impact 612,500 accounts. I mean yes, tiny percentage, but 600K people…
Numbers are a bit off.
If there are 3.5 Million accounts (using your numbers), it would impact ((3,500,000 * .00175) 6,175 accounts. Of those 6,175 accounts, it’s presumed that 98.223% of them would be RMTs, leaving only 1.777% of legitimate accounts affected by this change; meaning only 109 accounts. Out of 3.5 Million.
But the percentages that were given weren’t about affected accounts, but the number of emails sent in a month. That number wasn’t given, but for every 1,000,000 emails sent in a month, it would affect (1,000,000 * .00175) 1,750 emails. Of those 1,750 emails, 98.223% of them are alleged RMTs, leaving the aforementioned 1.777% of legitimate emails affected by this change, or (1,750 * .01777) 31 legitimate emails per million affected.
So 31 legitimate emails per 1,000,000 might be affected (per Chris).
The question then becomes, “is it worth it?” to increase the amount of hoops that RMTs will have to jump through in order to continue to ply their wares. Personally, I think so.
You could also look at getting a pretty paid visa. They can be reloaded with cash and then used online to by gems
Try the American Express SERVE card http://www.serve.com/
There’s a $1/month fee everywhere except NY, TX and VT (no fee in those states). Other than that it’s pretty much free for everything; no ATM fees (in network), no cash loading fees (Free at CVS, Walmart, 7/11, or from a linked checking account/Debit Card), no fees for online use, etc.. Even the card itself is free.
I use this card for pretty much everything online; only load it when I need it. That way if it gets hacked or lost/stolen I don’t have to worry about the money on it because I usually only keep a few bucks on it anyway. Just load it up when I need to buy something, and that keeps my real Debit card off most sites on the ’net.

Just go to Google and type in “What is current Pacific Time” and Google will tell you precisely.
I don’t know if anyone asked this, but is the beta 12 noon PST or PDT? Is it 12 noon server time, or one hour off that. I’m asking because I’m on Eastern Daylight Time and the server clock is, for some odd reason 4 hours off local time, not 3. I would have thought server would be running on PDT, but maybe the servers are “exceptional”
Server time is GMT/UTC.
The email states that the test starts at noon PACIFIC time.
Read again what i said. I am not complaining that the game is down i am 100% sure they are working on it. I was explaining that the excuse “they might be sleeping” someone made is just dumb and should NOT be used in the context of a global services (like this game).
1 nation’s laws do NOT apply to a world wide service…because your service is not present just in 1 nation. It’s present on the whole globe so there are teams outside of US working to assure the service is constantly up and running.
I suppose I worded things poorly, so let me clarify:
The team in charge of managing the US servers have to be local to US to perform their tasks properly, ergo ANet needs to pay them according to US federal regulations; this means they’re going to be kitten tired (as anyone who has worked graveyard can tell you) and a smaller team (because it costs more to maintain them), so they’re not going to react nearly as fast.
It doesn’t matter if the service is accessible internationally because the US servers are still based in the US and thus are subject to everything that affects the US.
I would strongly imagine that the servers are physically located in a data center, not at an ANet office. This would mean that 99.9% of their server maintenance is done remotely, not on-site.
I would also imagine that the EU and US teams have the same appropriate permissions on each others server clusters to perform remote maintenance when needed.
That said, they’ve already posted their working on it, so someone’s awake.
Looks like they’re back up now.
Looks like there’s a system-wide outage. Everyone on my Guilds TeamSpeak server got kicked and can’t get back in.
Not seeing it on my client Gaile. All settings retained.
Same problem here, screen is flashing like mad, getting “Connection error(s) detected: Retrying” 10 times a second, patch has slowed down to <50KB/sec.. Been hung up at 87% for about 5 minutes now.
Probably just getting slammed with people patching, forums are slowing down too.
Just to clear up one thing in your post, it’s not called the “bot” lane as in “Robot”, but as in “Bottom”. Then there’s “Mid”, then there’s “Top”.
Some people use “South”, “Mid”, “North” as well.
Ya know, I just don’t understand why someone would want to do business or buy something from someone that basically ADVERTISES that they steal/hack accounts.
“Ya, here’s my email address, what could possibly go wrong?”
On a good K-Train in EotM, at level 80, with boosters such as the 50% Communal Boost Bonfire, 30% Karma Booster from the Gem Store, 15% Guild Bonus, 15% Guild Banner Karma Booster and 5% Karma Food, you can earn up to around 25k Karma per hour.
Capturing a keep, for instance, is worth around 3,000 karma. Towers are 1,500, Generators are around 750, and Bridge Trolls are around 350. Toss in the odd event such as turning in an oil at the Airport or wiping a zerg somewhere (getting credit for a defense event), and it all adds up pretty quickly.
SW is good for general loot (Rares, Ectos, Gold, etc.) but there’s not a lot of karma in the events themselves. The occasional direct drop of Obsidian Shards in some of the chests (and buying them directly from the Bandit Crest vendor) can make up for that, though. It doesn’t take too long to get a stack of bandit crests, which is worth 5 shards (which is worth 10.5k karma).
Combine that with the direct drops and the additional karma (from the events) that you can buy more shards with, and it’s probably on par or maybe even more efficient than EotM.
To be fair there are 11 other achievements you can also do. And you only really need 3 of them for the AP.
EDIT above: While potentially true there are others that require certain things. Such as all but one of the WvW dailies.
If you face a opponent that basically doesn’t play WvW there will be no camps to capture, no enemies or guards to kill and no objects to defend.
I don’t know if it’s intended or not, but all the NPCs in Edge of the Mists are counting as “Guards” – including Bridge Trolls, the ones at the Generators, the roaming NPCs around the keeps, even the Champions themselves. You can basically kill anything in EotM and get the WvW “Guard Killer” credit (at least right now). Like I said, I don’t know if that’s intentional or not.
The “Take a Keep”, “WvW Invasion Defender” and “WvW Objective Defender” achievements also work in EotM. The only one that doesn’t (that I’ve found so far) is the “WvW Camp Capturer” one (since there are no camps in EotM).
Maybe it would help if people stopped comparing them to the OLD “Daily” system. It’s been removed. Taken out of the game. Anet would have been smart(er) to just say "We’re removing Dailies & Monthlies and replacing them with ’Login Bonuses and Random Achievements (that happen to reset on a daily basis) which reward players with Bonus Chests and a set amount of Achievement Points ’.
I don’t really see anyone complaining about the loss of the monthlies – even though THOSE came with more than just 10 Laurels – they also had up to 100 Achievement Points associated with them.
I’m sure there will be days when I look at the random set of daily achievements and go “Meh, I’ll skip the 10 AP today” – whereas in the past I’d feel more pressured to do them because of the Laurel. I do like those reward chests, though – especially the experience scrolls and the guaranteed rare item(s).
I know I’m glad to (hopefully) never have to do “Daily Reviver”, “Skill Interrupter”, or “Daily WvW Invasion Defender” ever again.
Okay, so I spent 25 minutes doing dailies for AP and experience for alts instead of playing the new patch.
What should I like again about that change?
At least experience is bottled and can be passed…
You got 10 AP instead of 3 AP and in less time than it would have taken to get 10 AP.
And if you want, you can still do the other dailies for the rewards chests.. Most of the PVE ones I’ve received so far have has 1 or 2 Experience Scrolls in them which are account bound – I’ll probably save them up and when I get a full stack of them, use them on a new character just to see how far it will take me from level 1.
I just have been raging in EU.
So I have 4 options. Queensdale Event, Maguuma Forager, Mystic Toilet usage, Jungle Wurm. Never done a JW, never want to. Guess I’m going to have to learn to use the Mystic Toilet >_<
I didn’t see any replies to this, so I’ll just state:
Buy 4 cheap runes or sigils off the TP. Lowest one right now is 11 copper. Throw them in the Mystic Toilet. Yer done. Cost: 44 copper. (You’ll need to break the stack of 4 into individual runes/sigils in order to throw them in the forge).
Looks like it’s just one particular map causing the problem, on IP 64.25.33.66.
If I join the party of someone already IN EotM on a different map and then join EotM, it puts me in their map and works normally.
But this hasn’t worked since after the EotM reset a few minutes ago, as no one can get in (at least yet).
MapLoadInfo in Screenshot.

It is, those are old listings that were in place before the changes to the TP happened, and they haven’t been removed.
You have to buy it twice.
When it comes down to it, bank tabs cost the same (in gems) as bag slots on character (although you’d have to spend a little gold for the 18 or 20 slot bags).
Bank Tab – 600 gems – 30 slots – 20 gems per slot
Bag Slot – 400 gems – 20 slots – 20 gems per slot
So if you HAD to, you could use one of those 44 characters as a “Bank Tab” character, fill him up with 20 slot bags (160 total slots), and it would cost you roughly the same as the bank tabs themselves (plus the gold for the bags, of course). Or use 18 slot bags to save 70-80 gold.
It’s not a perfect solution and I agree, I’d love more bank tabs myself; I’m no where near filling mine up (yet), but the hoarder in me knows that it’s just a matter of time.
I hate to throw anything away, because I just KNOW that some time in the future, that stack of broken lockpicks will have a use… XD
A 32GB USB3 Flash Drive would work just fine for this.
1) You’re not being cheated out of anything. The Blue, Green, and Yellow chests do not have Ascended gear. Only Blues, Greens, and the occasional Rare. Ascended boxes come from the Exotic and Boss chest
2) Are you participating in the Battery Defense phase? You gotta actively kill mobs targeting the Megalaser or Batteries.
You sure about that, Penguin? The reason I ask is that a few times I’ve stayed behind on the beach to kill fingers, and even though I didn’t get any credit for the battery defense phases (No pop-up on the right with a medal), I still got all 4 chests.
I always thought the 4 chests came from the 4 damage phases for Tequatl himself, maybe the player isn’t doing enough damage (to Teq) in a couple of the phases to rate that particular phases chest?
I thought someone tossed the number 15s in another thread on the subject. But I think that’s still high.
That sounds about right, actually. I’ve opened somewhere in the neighborhood of 40,000 champ bags myself (from the FGS train and EotM) over the last year, and I’ve tracked about half of them. By salvaging everything including blues, greens and rares (and selling the resulting mats & ectoplasms), including selling any exotics, my current average is around 14silver per bag after TP fees.
A year ago the FGS bags were a bit more profitable, before they reduced the amount of silver/copper you got from the bag itself – my average back then was just over 19silver per bag.
This doesn’t count the mats and gear from the mobs themselves, just the bags themselves. That will raise your profit average per champ, but that of course is affected by your current Magic Find/Luck.

I think I know what’s going on here.
I bet that the “farm” is going on in China, too. If they call it an exploit, then they have to patch it, and that’s even harder now. And if they call it an exploit, they’ll have to start punishing people…. including China players.
Easier to let this one slide for a couple of weeks. And let’s be honest, in a good zerg, you can still get a ton of ToT bags without this. For people with machines that zone slower, the zerg may even be faster. They’ll just quietly patch out the rats for next year, if the event even comes back.
ArenaNet doesn’t have anything to do with the operation of the game in China. All they provide is the game engine & patches. A Chinese company actually “runs” the game there.
They also decided to hide the past exchange rates which makes this REALLY, REALLY suspect. And for anyone who’s curious, they also shut off the web service that provides gem price data as soon as they released the patch, so the price spike is hidden on gw2spidy as well. That never happened for any patch in the past, and judging by the fact that every other market API call is working perfectly fine, I’m almost certain they deliberately shut off that service to hide the exchange rate switch."
As I think has been posted before, the API is fine — Spidy is broke. He’s BEEN broke for months. I don’t think he even plays anymore to update it – it took over 2 weeks to get the Chaos Weapons added to the tracking database.
http://www.gw2tp.com/gems is working correctly if you need a graph.
I think it is ridiculous to have to buy 400 gems at a time! They should have left it the way it was.
To be fair I have been “forced” to buy at least 800 gems every time I have wanted to buy gems since release. And yet no one seems to have had any issue with that.
I have an issue with it. The business model exploits human weakness to (potentially) get more money out of people than they’re initially inclined to spend. Unfortunately, there is no precedent in the gaming industry for exact amount sales of virtual items. They all use the same model. And it will continue in GW2 and other online games because consumers don’t care enough to do anything en masse about it.
So we are just dropping the minimum gem purchase issue now for cash to gem transactions? I remember someone mentioned that credit card sales have a minimum purchase requirement and I really didn’t know what they meant. I know a little about merchant transactions and card companies but not a lot and came across this http://www.creditcards.com/credit-card-news/credit-card-minimum-payment-purchases-law-1282.php
What I took from the article was that merchants like NCSOFT/ANET/SONY/etc. aren’t required to set minimum purchase amounts but do so to avoid all the transaction fees from numerous small transactions. So, unless I’m still missing something, Anet doesn’t have to set minimum gem purchase amounts to be 800 gems and we can have something similar to gold to gem conversion. But yeah, people don’t have the will to fight this particular industry standard. Again, unless I missed something about this minimum purchase requirement someone brought up, it doesn’t have to be this way and people could fight to change this as well.
Edit: Also, shock and awe that Anet is eating the loss by changing the system back (compromise really). Happy in a way. But still shocked.
That is correct. I’ve charged as little as 1¢ on my Visa just a few weeks ago, in fact. (Bought a cell phone for a penny on a 1-year contract via mail order).. Was either that or spend 50¢ on a stamp to send them a penny in an envelope. (just kidding, they required the credit card payment).
Mom-n-Pop shops often require a minimum charge because credit card processors have a “per charge” fee along with a “percentage of the sale” fee — Often like 25¢ per charge and 2% of the total fee. So if you charge $1.00 on your credit card, it costs that store 27¢ to run the charge – eating up any profit the store would have made on that sale. (if you charge something small, like something that costs 10¢, it would actually cause the store to LOSE money as they’d still have to pay 25¢ to allow you to charge 10¢.)
With a minimum charge of $10, it’s much easier for the store to pay the 45¢ fee (25¢ + 2% of $10 (20¢)) and still make a profit on the sale. but it’s by no means required to have a minimum – that’s up to the individual business.

Thank you, Gaile, for an official response here on the forums.
Absolutely!
I’m sorry we weren’t able to answer earlier, but it took a bit of time to research how best to address player concerns. I’m glad that this is going to be resolved in a way that will give players a great deal of flexibility, customization, personalization, the whole lot.
I was just thrilled when the devs said the custom option could be done. I think my “Yaaaay!” was heard in downtown Seattle.

Here’s an update for you:
It’s clear that quite a lot of you would like to have greater flexibility in using the Currency Exchange. Our intention when we designed the new interface was to streamline large volume purchases, which make up the majority of transactions.
In light of your feedback, we will update the Currency Exchange so that you can decide how you want to use it. We will keep the new streamlined system and also offer a new “Custom” button on the panel that you can use to exchange any increment of gems or gold.
We anticipate rolling this out soon. Stay tuned!

Sorry for the delay in posting this, but out of respect to our international community, we wanted to be able to post in several forums at once.
Will the graph be coming back?
Hopefully, but if not I can live without it; the graph at https://www.gw2tp.com/gems is much more customizable and concise anyway.
I’m just thankful they listened.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that the opinion(s) of a site like that has more weight than the entire forum-base put together.
Here’s the thing though. And I think it’s the heart of the issue.
Arena.net DIDN’T get 200 gems profit from you. They got effectively NOTHING from you. And that’s THEIR problem here, see. Gold to gem conversions have been going up steadily without fail because more people have been converting to gems rather than buying them with IRL cash.
As has been discussed on the forums many times, ANet actually makes up to twice as much money by allowing Gold→Gem conversions than they would if they only sold Gems for RL $.
When the price of Gems is relatively stable, that means that there as just as many gems going INTO the Exchange as there are coming OUT of the Exchange; hence, the stable price. The only way Gems get INTO the Exchange is someone specifically buys Gems (with RL Money) and sells those Gems for gold.
Another way you can think of it is like this – Every single gem that is used in the Gem Store was bought with RL $. Every single one. YOU may have used gold to buy them, but someone else had to use RL $ and put them into the Exchange in order for you to be able to buy them with Gold.
Without the Gem Exchange, they will have to rely solely on players who can afford to buy Gems JUST for Gem Store items. No more will they be able to buy Gems and sell them for InGame gold (Unless they make some arbitrary static exchange rate).
So if you really stop and think about it, when you buy Gems with InGame gold, you’re still generating a profit for ArenaNet because someone had to buy those Gems with RL $ and sell them for gold in the first place. If that option didn’t exist, then ANet would undoubtedly lose a lot of Gem Sales as I know a lot of people who specifically buy Gems JUST to trade them for gold (I have a Guildy who is buying enough Gems for 1,200g so he can buy a precursor right now. Seriously.) Those Gems will go into the Exchange, and someone else will be able to buy them FOR gold (at a total of a 28.5% transaction fee overall. It’s not a bad gold sink, either!).
As it stands right now I can click to buy 9 gems 250 times and get 2250 gems, or I can click once and get 1865 gems. That is called Highway Robbery in most circles.
I have 800 gems left over from a gift card I got last Christmas, I wont be asking for them again, that is for sure. I will never buy gems. and I wont convert my gold to gems either. Thank you Anet.
No, you’re confused. You can click to SELL 9 gems 250 times (and get 250 gold). I had to figure it out too the first time I looked at it; the left hand side lets you SELL gems FOR gold, the right side lets you BUY gems WITH gold.
And this was supposed to be “less confusing”.
Yeah, right.
Not to mention @ 72g27s96c per 400 gems, that’s just over 18g per 100 gems. 18g per 100 gems.. When it was 14g per 100 right before the patch? So in addition to not being able to buy just “50 gems”, any price increase is multiplied by at least a factor of 4 (if you used to buy gems 100 at a time).
Up to 19g per 100 gems now.
76g 41s 69c / 400 = 19g 10s 42c per 100 Gems.
When it was just over 72g while ago. Like I said, any price increase is now multiplied by a factor of 400; When you have a wide swing of Gem to Gold prices (sometimes it would fluctuate by 2g per 100 Gems in a single day), now it won’t be unusual to see an 8g-10g fluctuation on 400 gems in a single day.
We’ve had a minimum increase of at least 20g just today (before the patch you could get gems for 14g per 100, which would have been 56g for 400 – instead at the MINIMUM you can buy, it’s 76g per 400).. So not only can you not buy just 100 gems at a 5g premium from earlier in the day, but you have to spend at least 20g more to buy the lowest amount of gems you can get.
(Spidy is broken, BTW – it’s still reporting 15g per 100. GW2TP is updating correctly, showing 19g19s per 100 gems)
Please add another account holder who is not pleased with this change. The ability to buy just a few gems at a time to either make a nice round number, or when you have 100gems already and only need 25 more to buy that Black Lion Key..
“Despicable” works, but it’s certainly not the word I had in mind.
Already I’m hearing from several guild members who only need “50 gems” to buy something in the Gem Store that they can’t afford (or just don’t want to buy) “400 gems all at once”, and this is really torquing them off.
If nothing else, A-Net, please at least add a line for “100 gems”, (and you can move the “Buy more Gems” button to right below “Get Gems”). The ability to quickly see the cost for 100 gem (without having to break out the calculator and divide by 4) would be nice.
Almost every unique and special Item that has come out for Guild Wars 2 has been a gem store item. I know ArenaNet wants to make money but at the same time they need to think of the part of the population that cant effort to use real money(some people have no job, alot of payments, family to take care of) to buy gems. Yes I know you can trade Gold for Gems but if you are like me you do not make near enough gold to warrant trading it in for gems..
I’m sure the day that the 300+ employees of ArenaNet can use in-game gold to pay their mortgage/rent, bills, and other expenses that they’d be more than happy to accept your gold.. Until then, the only way they can afford to feed their families is with Gems.
Just FWIW, using “Sell to the highest bidder” still charges you the 5% fee up front, so he’ll be unable to sell it until he comes up with the fee. It then takes the remaining 10% from the sale and makes it available for pickup from the TP Trader. 50g isn’t that much, I’m sure if they knows a few people in game they could find someone willing to loan them the fee for a few minutes.
So if the current highest bidder is at 1,000g, it would immediately take 50g from his wallet to sell the item, then he would pick up 900g from the TP Trader. (Total Fee: 150g).
That said, I’m a packrat. I probably wouldn’t buy anything – unless Gem prices come back down, then I’d probably convert half of it to Gems and hold onto the rest for a rainy day.
Start here, it should give you a pretty good headstart on what you’re looking for.
http://gw2.mmorpg-life.com/guild-wars-2-crafting-material-locations/1826/
There was a bug around launch that allowed below-vendor buy orders on items. It was fixed but not before a bunch of automated buy orders for nonsense were put in.
We were discussing ways to clean this up relatively recently and think we have a plan, though the complexity of the operation means we’re not going to rush to do it.
Yay! Great news Pat!

Maybe you’ll find your answer there, or in one of the linked posts in that thread.
I just double checked, and I was right the first time – if you try to list something lower than the highest “Buy Order” listing, the sale price defaults to that price. So even if you tried to list it for 3s, it would have “sold instantly” at the highest buy order price, which is around 40s.

Always go to the promotions tab to see timers. Right now it’s just a day count down.
Am I missing something? I still don’t see a countdown on Mini Pack 1 or 2..
Something like this wouldn’t be account specific, would it?
Won’t disagree with anyone here, that is most probably phishing.
My problem here is that the links it directs you to are legit. They take you to the GuildWars2 website sign-in screen and the legal page, respectively.
Maybe the forums auto-corrected the links? Or maybe the sites sign-in page is compromised? (Highly unlikely of course!) Or maybe this is some highly devious plot by some dastardly hackers in a remote village somewhere?
Either way, I’m not sure I would call this phishing, unless the phisherman just wanted you to legitimately log in to the GuildWars2 site…in which case he/she get’s nothing out of this and no real harm done. Good job not clicking links though.
URLs can be “hidden” covertly in emails – much like this one:
It LOOKS like the link would take you to the GuildWars2 site, but actually it’ll take you to Google.
When he copy/pasted the email into the message, he copied the top layer – the URL that appeared in the email, and not the “covert” or underlying URL underneath the link. That why it “looks” legitimate on the forums.
Just get into the habit of never clicking a link in EMail. If it’s an email from your bank, open a browser window and go to the banks site yourself, using a link you KNOW is valid. Same if if it’s an email from GW2; open a browser and go to the GuildWars2 site yourself. I don’t care if it’s an email from my mother, father, or brother – I will not click a link in Email.

7 I hope they didn’t use the old use of ‘projected profit’, because that is not the projected profit, but instead the projected return. ‘projected profit’ would be (total – fee – tax). I expect it will just be the old one of (total – tax), which is good enough to include for people who missed it.
It’s calculating (total – fee – tax)
