What is GW2 missing?

It’s missing feedback, dev communication and new permanent content.
If you’ve been here since launch and haven’t fallen for the fractal illusion “permanent changing dungeon!..oh, same levels on rotation though” theres frankly nothing left to-do that you haven’t already done 500+ times.
It was amazing for a year, then you hit the wall and its game done.
Unless you have a high tolerance for repetition that is.

Beware – all the reviews of this game are VERY outdated and the game itself has undergone some rather heavy handed changes. With the new changes etc the scores would be significantly lower in reviews as you can tell by the current community outrage.
Its longer and duller to level characters, you can no longer build an actual build till level 60+.
server communities no longer exist outside wvw.
a server merge has just occured which is usually a bad bad sign for life expectancy of the mmo.
All content added has been temporary in nature with no significant new areas added to game.
If looking to putchase – be very careful to have a good look around at blogsites online as theres heavy moderation in these forums.
as the game currently stands – i would not advise a friend to get it.

Well, you probably don’t meet min requirements for the game or need to turn down your settings. What do you expect playing on hardware that is outdated.

My computer is perfectly fine. By your logic, about 30-40% of players need to stop playing this game because they have hardware similar to me.

What my computer can’t handle is 100+ people in a small spot.

It’s also why I STAYED AWAY FROM BIG SERVERS ON PURPOSE.

You know, so I could play the game smoothly.

But ArenaNET apparently assumes everyone that plays their game has a megacomputer (GET IT? HA!) and good internet connection.

Let me just go ahead and drop 1500+ on a new computer so ArenaNET can implement their kittenty ideas.

PS : Megaservers would still suck even if I had a beastly computer.

5 fps is not “fine”, it definitely can’t handle the game it seems. Not ANets fault at all. They have minimum requirements for a reason and they can’t tune their game for minority of people with outdated hardware.

cool story – tell me his exact specs. ohhhh, you’re trolling.
also a higher number of large parked norns in delicate jumping puzzles is not a good idea.
Try thinking before you speak.
also – why a reply from devs just on the german channel? shouldn’t it be a reply across all forums at the same time as a company release? or was the german dev jumping the gun and will get in trouble like the sab dev.

Start work on the gifts and accumulate as much wealth as possible in the event you have to outright buy a precursor.

Removing the RPG from MMORPG

When the game first came out it was amazing – the dungeons were awesome first run through, you’d stop at beautiful vistas and just go “wow!” A handful of gold could fully outfit your char and content like halloween was amazing with scavenger hunts and fun.
But it slowly became like a book written to a formula – the same content retold with different chars – over and over and over.
zerg here for 2 weeks, zerg here for 2 weeks – don’t worry – story coming but till then – zerg here for 2 weeks.
the dungeons are the same – no deviation in patrols, mobs or bosses. So it becomes just a routine. Then hey! why waste time? just use the fastest way through since i have to run this to get gold each day and since it never changes its boring as hell so i want it over soon as possible, so the zerk meta appears with good reason, stacking and skipping become the norm because theres no reason not to.
The original diablo had more variety in its dungeons.
The world itself had promise but with no amazing lore and backstories it has no magic to draw you back to it.
gw1 bless its socks had character and kept pulling me back for 7 years, this version has waxed and waned in 1.
The direction has changed substantially since release and not for the better. The world is not getting more developed, its as stale as it was.

I bought leaf of kudzu then worked my kitten off to bust out kudzu. Then i took a long break from the game (left at frost start, returned at watchnights something) because frankly – that was the last goal short of zerging shinies. 1,600+ hours later and i was talking to the guildies about no precursors ever, threw in 4 rares and bingo – dusk. Used 50 of the 650 gold on axes and got tooth on the same day.
Sold that, gave away the gold and deleted all my chars vowing never to return.
I know what you mean about the winning feeling, the legendary was the “ok, mapped, done all dungeons, nothing but zerg and legendary left” mark.
The getting a precursor at long last was that final “thats it, thats what I needed to let go”.
Its never going to become as good as GW1, its was never really designed to be a sequel but the hope kept me going. I’m actually returning to GW1 and going to re-vanquish the worlds and get those lat few HoM titles i’ve been putting off.

I just can’t see the upsides to this – dead zones will still be dead zones, you’ll still only meet people who are in there mapping in the mid zones.
You’ve got a population starved of stuff to do – and you’re starving them further by scheduling the little you already have.
The map will cease to function as a living breathing dynamic and become unable to tell which events are up by the contested waypoints. The losses far outweigh the positives.
Also – I live in New Zealand, man do my times not match your schedule.
The feature pack was a chance to drag me back but you clearly have no concern over your customers needs and wants.
Also – a server merge simply looks like your population is dwindling and you’re panicking. With the other games coming out its a bad time to give that image.
Theres a few people who think it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread but if i did just fractals/wvw all day it wouldn’t effect me either.
There are none so blind as those that will not see.

Talissa Chan.7208

Actually this combined with the scarlet arc failure (which i logged in for after the email) was the last straw for me. Its just shown no improvement story/lore wise in almost 2 years and frankly 1,600+ hours is a hell of a lot of time falling for the same “you’ll get a reason in two weeks, x ability will be coming soon!” The micro transactions are a bit too in your face and the prices on things are climbing a bit much (400 per armour piece for gem store, ingame goods beginning to cost significant amounts such as consumable foods etc) which means that my already large investment will continue to be added to. Considering i’ve spent around $1 per hour over the gametime I think its been worth it, but i’ve lost the hope it will improve to gw1 story/lore/character standards.
Did i enjoy it? hell yes, the mapping x3, running all dungeons and the wvw play was fantastic fun for the first year, but then you hit the LS as all you have left and it just doesn’t leave you aching for more.
Have a blast folks!
Looks like it was longer than 10 days after all.

What happened to the manifesto?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Talissa Chan.7208

Talissa Chan.7208

The manifesto created a fresh, fun game that I played for over a year before abandoning. Sure I overspent on gems but now i’m overspending on other games.
ascended vs exotic – for me the grinding was annoying but doable but ascended falls over when it comes to patches/build changes. You can’t quickly change from rabid to rampagers then zerker as builds/patches change traits without serious time issues and alts? dead in the water.
Exotic enabled you to explore new builds and change quickly when a nerf happened to a build. It was widely available using multiple currencies.
Ascended (and legendary next) effectively ties you to one build as the investment to get that armour is large.

Brilliant post and pinpoints a lot of the reasons i stopped logging in and just check the forums once a week in case something really exciting has shown up.
After looking forward to wintersday every year since the first gw1 event I just couldn’t face the way the game direction has shifted and have moved on to other games.
I’ll pop back if I catch note of the sanctum showing up again but i’ve mapped/dungeoned more than enough and I feel the shallow depths of the game compared to gw1.
Vanquishing, hard mode and collecting every skill were great ways to extend the lifespan of gw1 (and WiK was awesome) and there was always something to do, some carrot to chase but gw2 is just missing that endgame component that keeps pulling you back daily after a year.
Loved it, wish it the best but unless theres another shift in direction its done its dash for me.
Thanks for the awesome post.

3 fully 80 roamers saw me and pursued/attacked me as i ran from my starting gate all the way up the road towards the centaur area (rather out of the way) i didn’t attack just healed and blocked yet they still followed me for a full 5 mins as i dodged, used the landscape and walked (gah guardians are slow) my way there before finally staking me just before the camp poi.
Then they got eaten by a map zerg that was passing and detoured to res me.
i bumped into the lone survivor who was hiding behind a rock as i resimed my way to the centaurs and rather than 1v1 he just circled me warily then speed bailed away from my rather wussy char.

That’s why its there and people do it, its a stable income.
You can make money a crapload of different ways, champ farming is seriously the most braindead but it works, and if you need karma or a burst of cash its a way to do it that requires no skill but a buttload of time.
Do it for a week, every day, every hour – see in person how easy this “easy money” you’re complaining about is.

will you be nerfing mesmer portals too? no? then its pointless. People will find ways to get around it, zergs split into tails (no loss of ability as the enemy has to have tails too). You’d effectively change nothing. The only thing you’d stop is an emergency dash to defend your own keep – everyone waypoints to spawn – enemy just got an extra free minute to cap as you move like turtles from spawn (since during a keep map call everyone wp’s soon as they see it, which makes insta-zerg. Silly.
Edit for clarification: Zergs have tails, you’d have to have a whopper of a radius for it to make any real difference at all, zerg tails out – reaches objective, reforms and blob destroys target. no change at all.

Yay, another person complaining about champ farming AFTER stating that they’ve joined in and done it till they had enough gold.
Sigh, it’s like saying “hey, i got my cof armour on the 3 chars i wanted, lets nerf these tokens, its too easy to get this stuff”.
Ask yourself – why do you care? jealousy? Are you SERIOUSLY playing your char in queensdale 24/7?
Champ farms are great for levelling an alt, great to stock up on that little bit of karma you needed in a hurry to finish that new PTV WvW char you made, great for levelling a few extra levels on a new char so he’s not so weak for the next zone.
Theres a hell of a lot of plusses to champ farming. Get over your issues and come up with a real problem to complain about, the extra gold people are making is easily attainable elsewhere ingame. Its not harming the economy at all. Just pure silliness.

Could Anet help with population balancing?

in WvW

Posted by: Talissa Chan.7208

Talissa Chan.7208

Did you read the collaborative dev thread? Its a huge pile of people whining that the population means nothing and that all Oceanic players can just go die and shouldn’t be allowed to get points for their server and its those oceanics that are ruining the game.
Ever thought that the Oceanics just got tired of playing alone on their servers so moved to ones with players?
Population imbalance can’t be fixed unless you know exactly whos going to be online at what time. If you organise a soccer match and three of your guys call in sick you’re screwed.
GW2 has people with lives, you’ll naturally get more people on fri night, sat, sun, than during the week.
What if your hardcore wvw guild decides they’re taking fri night off to do all their guild missions and kill teq? Suddenly your servers down 250 players. Imbalance is a dynamic variable, you never know how many will show up at any given time, therefore its unfixable.

Collaborative Development: World Population

in CDI

Posted by: Talissa Chan.7208

Talissa Chan.7208

There’s a lot of ideas floating around in here about off-peak map queues, small amount of players during off-peak and dynamic queues and extra maps while you wait.
1) Off-peak does not exist, your server either has NA players, Oceanic or both.
2) Guilds – Whats the kitten point of being a WvW guild if half your guys are trapped in a queue, 1/4 are fighting for another server and 1/4 are trapped in a limbo map unable to meet up.
If you have to study or go to work why should the other team be forced to have one less player?
Population imbalance cannot be fixed – people have lives. You can say they’re just not dedicated but you’ll want to go out with your mates, have a date, see a movie, work, take an exam, or take a 20 min loo break. You can’t handicap the other team just because you have something to do. You may drop GW2 for a week. Now what happens when 20+ of the other server has work as its a national festival for instance. now suddenly you’re in a queue and complaining “man, wtf, I don’t care if we outman them, let me in!” and then add being in a guild to the mix, “wtf bob, why the hell are you on blue, you’re our portal mes, exit and relog till you get on our side”
Its going to take a hell of a solution to deal with the variables we have here.

The poor cant compete.

Hmm. I had an asuran warrior, decided nope this just isn’t working so i deleted that char and made a brand new sylvari warrior. At the time of deletion I had a whopping 5g in my bank and had emptied my karma on silly boxes. In 53 hours of play (Using /age) I had mapped the world and earned enough karma to get a full set of temple gear and enough gold to grab a few exotic trinkets so she was usable in dungeons etc. If you expect to play for 3 hours and get fully geared up then yes, you will be disappointed unless a precursor drops for you. It is however all reachable with time.
Map the world, it works, its shorter than you think and its a heck of a lot of fun.

I’ve just come from 5 hours of fighting on tc ebg. We’ve got quite a large pop, fairly long ques and we’re currently facing sos and jq. Now when the match started we had jq and sos both make a beeline straight for the tc side, we had the entire sos zerg parked in our keep for over an hour and we basically wandered around as a megablob and smashed through either gravity or will into every blob we saw. The guilds agg and ep managed to get their forces into sos and proceeded to form what i can only describe as a tight knit rolling ball of death that – as we did earlier – roamed around looking for fellow blobs to sever and smash.
Now in a few more hours sos will quieten down but the jq night crew will kick in – and they field roughly the same amount till about 3am nz time. Then theres a tiny window of quiet. Tc has a fairly good presence till just about 4am so we get to squeeze in a brief game of “cap it quick!”
The point of this ramble? -
The ppt frankly mean squat to the real wvw guilds/players. Its been a VERY long time since at reset after an hour i’ve heard anyone mention the score at all.
If a guild team gets in – they want to achieve whatever that guilds objective is – most of the time these days its “I want a good fight kitten and some freaking bags” holding your third is more about "quick! their zergs at quentin! form up and rush – get the veils going! drop statics!
The whole ppt side could seriously be dropped and as long as you had some form of choosing which server did the best at the end of the week people would be happy.
You could go by -
Number of items successfully flipped + player kills and that would still work, its just a minor goal anyway.
Population imbalance happens because we’re all in different timezones like the description I gave entails. If you start swaying the points/rewards/way to win in order to match a certain set timezone you’re going to kitten off a lot of people. Population imbalance i feel can’t be fixed, theres just too many variables – some can’t play due to study, some work, some live in antarctica, some moved full guilds to avoid ques, some suddenly rush in due to achieves.
The real fix will be the points short term to keep a lot of people happy then figure out how to split the maps to allow more in, raise the caps to take the edge off ques, fix the coding/hardware so the server lags bearable. Give t1 & 2 matchups extra maps to fight over, guilds can organise “great lets meet up on map 3 of eb” if you cloned ebg 3 times but lowered the points on each map by 1/3 bingo. same points, wayyy more players able to attend and meetup. Suddenly people can get their whole guild in and play “whack a zerg”. Everyone has fun rather than stress and annoyance.
