Then again they would have to redo Lions Arch decor seeing how the city has changed.
I agree. I wish they would give a holiday to each one of the racial cities.
1. Hoelbrak is perfect for Wintersday
2. The Black Citadel is creepy enough for Halloween.
3. Divinity’s Reach already has the Queen’s Jubilee
4. [SPOILER] After the events so far of LS2, The Grove would be good for Dragon Bash if it returns.
5. Rata Sum – I’m sure something will eventually be put into game they could have.
This would be EXCELLENT!!!
The Black Citadel is a really cool location, but it always felt like it was missing… “something”. Giving it a Halloween makeover could really liven the place up, giving it a little more identity.
Same with Hoelbrak, too! I’d love seeing the Norn’s take on Christmas, with more of a “warm” feeling, but also filling in that massive, empty middle-area with a little more “holiday cheer”.
Mesmers wearing full metal armors, Warriors running around in magician clothers, is this artistic freedom for you?
Your argument that Warriors and Guardians aren’t aggro tanks and that other classes also can take hits like a pro is right, but how do you use this as a justification that for example a Necromancer should be allowed to wear a full metal armor? Where is the sense?
They are things which have it’s nature which should not be changed, I don’t want to see an Elementalist wearing a knight’s armor running around with a freezing aura, throwing fireballs and creating tornados. How stupid is that? Same for a warrior going to the battlefield with a big warhammer but a cloth armor…
To a special role the armor is an important part of it, why want people destroy this? Just accept the role of your character and don’t divide by 0.
This is really where I land, as well. One of my biggest gripes with Guild Wars 2 is that there really isn’t much sense of Class-identity. They seem largely interchangeable, which is something I personally view as a pretty big negative. My Guardian doesn’t really feel any different than playing my Warrior, except that they’re different Races.
If anything, I’d like to see Class-exclusive sets of armor, to further instill the notion that each of these professions is “special” in some way, as opposed to it basically just boiling down to your Race alone.
I don’t love it.
Potions are already an Engineer shtick.
Gothic class? Necromancer.IMO, if you’re looking for another class to fill out the Heavies, Golemancers might be solid.
Well, you could work it differently than “potions”, if needed. It would basically been blood-transfusions with different types of monsters, so it could even be some kind of ritual to assume the different forms, or perhaps imply your character has those “genes” already in their blood, they simply “tap into them” for their abilities.
As for being “too much like the Necromancer”, that’s probably a fair point. Still, I don’t think you can write a character off for being “dark”, as the Necromancer has a very distinct flavor. Plus, I think it’s important that if a third Soldier-class were added, it be as different from the Guardian and Warrior as possible, who are already strikingly similar as is.
Of course, I could see Golemancers having potential, too. In fact, I’d probably finally make an Asura character if they were added :P
I’m stuck with the low-level version of it, and it’s just a major bummer that we can’t upgrade it. Perhaps the old quest-chain could be re-activated in time before the event is over completely?
Aye, I’m hoping to see something new! I LOVE my Mad King’s Set, but something new would be cool, as well.
I must say, I love this idea! Something dark, with mysterious tonic… Actually it reminds me about Geralt from The Witcher, so I would love it
Hmm, I’ve not played the Witcher games. Any good?
I would just like to have a new heavy class that is somewhat similar to the “Deathknight” in WoW.
To be honest, I play a Death Knight in WoW as my main, as was even pretty hardcore back in Wrath. Good times, for sure :P
Honestly, though, I feel like if Necromancers could wield Two-handed Swords and Heavy-armor, that’s basically all they would be. Even a Guardian or Warrior I feel could replicate the general “look” of a Death Knight quite easily. The only way I could see it working is if you dropped any sort of “Undead” aspect, and instead went more with a “Spectral” or “Hellfire” motif for their abilities.
I figured this “Witch-Hunter” idea might work because, frankly, I don’t feel like anyone has ever really tried to make ranged-characters feel “mighty” or “powerful”. It just seemed like kind of an interesting niche to try to fill.
So, I know the Devs have stated there are no plans to add another Class, but assuming they were open to such an idea, I thought I’d pitch my own idea.
“The Witch-Hunter” (or Alchemist; whichever you think sounds better)
I really dig the appeal for a Gothic-inspired character, but to be honest, I don’t really see the need for a traditional “Dark Knight” style of character. Instead, I would take that “flavor” and apply it to a more Ranged-oriented character.
In order to keep it distinct from the Necromancer, as well, I would envision this profession as a bit of an Alchemist, with ritualistic qualities. Wielding Guns (with new Crossbow designs), Pistols, Daggers, possibly Bows (not sure if it fits or not) and a new one-handed “Whip” weapon-type (that a few other Classes might use, as well), they would blend all the stuff we love about Halloween stories, but with an exciting new twist; drinking various tonics they’ve created using the blood of horrific enemies they’ve slain, they could take on the forms of Vampires, Werewolves, or other supernatural creatures!
Anyways, not really sure of how they might actually play, but personally, I quite like the concept! What do you guys think?
Also, to conserve at least a little space server-side, maybe adding an item to your “Wardrobe” Collection would actually destroy the item itself, preserving only its graphic to use on transmuting?
That way, A) you get slightly less bloat in this browsing this Wardrobe-UI, as there will only be one “item” per appearance, and it could inspire a new type of gameplay, hunting down item-graphics you don’t yet possess.
Erm, anybody else?
Alright, I managed to solve a few things on my own. However, I do have two questions, still, which I’ll make more specific;
1. Is there a way to make your mouse-cursor invisible when not in “Cursor-mode”?
2. I’d like my mouse-cursor to reset its position to the middle of the screen whenever I activate cursor-mode, but without getting “stuck” in the center of the screen.
Playing the game with a controller is absolutely godsend, but I’d like to learn how to modify settings to tailor it a bit more to my own tastes?
Right now, I’m using Tomkatt’s setup, which can be found here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/Xbox-360-controller-and-Guild-Wars-2-merged/first
It’s pretty awesome already, but I’m curious how to make a few changes. I’ve already made a few of the easy modifications (and major thanks to Tomkatt for making the process so much easier!), but I have a few questions still, to really get it “perfect” for me.
1. Is there a way to stay in “Right-click mode” permanently, instead of only when you’re actually moving the camera? I hate when it “clicks” something every time you shift your view.
2. Is there a way to make your cursor automatically center to the middle of the screen, when you push LB?
3. How do you speed up how quickly you aim and move the cursor? Turning my character feels just a tad slow, but moving my cursor feels painfully so.
4. Is it possible to utilize the “Xbox Home Button” on a 360 controller? Specifically, I’d like to bind the Esc key to it.
5. From Tomkatt’s setup, how might I go about swapping the LB and LT buttons and their functions, without screwing up everything else they do? Using LT and RT to mimic a mouse just seems like it would be much more natural to me.
If any of you guys could help me out, I would be EXTREMELY grateful!!! I absolutely love playing with a controller, but these tweaks would make it absolutely perfect for me
Actually, I do have one question; is there a way to modify it do that the cursor never appears on-screen except while I’m actively holding LB? And maybe have the cursor auto-center itself when I let go or push LB again, so it always starts at the same position?
Holy crap, this is amazing!!!
Kudos on you for those keybinds, as well. They’re surprisingly intuitive, and being able to mouse-turn with the right thumbstick is Godsend!!!
Well, one sweeping change I would have is that each Profession, I think, should have at least one (preferably more) armor-design that is totally exclusive.
Barring that, I would allow Engineers to wield more weapons, just for the sake of having a bit more variety. Daggers, for example, and maybe 1hand Axes, or even a Short-bow.
1. Leveling
Leveling feels just a tad directionless, and given how exciting the bi-weekly events are, it’s easy to get swept away with content you really shouldn’t be focused on.
2. Transmuting
It seems like there is a lot of room for user-error, such as accidentally destroying or selling an item with a totally unique appearance. Would be nice to have a “Collections-tab for item-graphics”, perhaps a Wardrobe?
3. Living World events
As someone who has missed several events because of poor timing, I’m curious if you could provide some insight as to what you intentions are with future updates? How do you weigh what content will return, and what will remain exclusive to that specific year?
Man, that’s a tough one. Norn has, hands-down, the better looking Cultural Armor, but Humans also look better in several of the other, more elaborate sets.
I suppose the tie-breaker will have to be this; which one do you think tends to look better in Town Clothes? For example, I still have my Mad King’s gear from last year, and I know it looks pretty wicked on a Human, but how something like that stack up on a Norn?
Hmm, gotcha. Still kind of unusual there aren’t any Profession-specific armor-designs, but not necessarily a bad thing — just not what I had expected.
So really, it basically comes down to just body-type and story, then?
Hmm, all Professions share the same armor-designs? That’s surprising; I suppose I’m still so low level, I just assumed it would follow suit to WoW, giving each Class its own visual-identity.
Still, trying to decide; do I stick with the consistent, yet sometimes bland Humans, or the hyper-masculine Norn, who don’t necessarily look great in every set of armor…?
A good solution, definitely. I suppose I’m just of the mind that, if you’re going to allow us to customize our appearance, why not just make all options (that we’ve earned/unlocked) available?
I mean, still keep whatever cost to transmute in place, but like I said; if they could open up another tab in your bank, similar to how you store all of you ingredients, and dedicated to each unique item-graphic, that would just absolutely rock.
Okay, I know those are both really cliche choices, but I’m trying to decide which character to focus on as my “main”.
For me, appearance and overall “vibe” are more important than which is actually more powerful, if either. I dig the sort of “Barbarian” motif of the Norn, but I also wonder whether or not such armor is really common? Similarly, I like how Humans look in the more gothic-looking armor, but much of their armor seems less imposing, from what I’ve seen.
Really, I guess I’m just kinda looking for you guys’ feedback, which do you think will wind up being the most “neutral” choice to focus on? No matter who I choose to play up now, my next character will most certainly be a Charr Engineer, so I’m really open to feedback.
So, not gonna lie; I’ve played the game a bit, but I’m still very much noobish. Something that is both exciting, yet also fills me with dread, is the idea of transmuting armor and weapons to look different.
The benefits are obvious, but my major concerns are that A) I’ll screw up and transmute “the wrong way”, destroying the item I want to keep, and that I won’t be able to hold onto all the great-looking designs that might be unique to a single item.
I don’t know what the best solution would be, but perhaps there might be some way to “store” item-designs, or “unlock” them to avoid the fear of accidentally vendoring a cool-looking, statistically-useless item?
Anyways, not sure how anyone else feels on this, but personally, it’d make things a lot more exciting to level a character up.
Bah, that’s a bummer! I hope they consider bringing it back next year, or even just an NPC to upgrade the existing one if it’s incomplete. The one I’ve got just looks to lame in comparison
I got the low-level version of the Mad Memoires last year, but I was curious if it’s possible to complete the rest of the quest-chain this year?
Yeah, those three are really the only ones I’m really interested in right now. I’m sure I’ll get around to playing others later (Mesmer seems interesting), but trying to decide on sort of a “main” right now.
It’s good to know that about the Engineer, though; I didn’t realize how pivotal those other abilities would become later on. They still sound like a ton of fun, but yeah, I think I’ll focus on either the Guardian or Warrior for now, and then play the Engineer up as a second character.
On that note… What are some of the bigger differences between the Warrior and Guardian? I like the idea of Warriors being able to wield more weapon-types, although I do sort of dig the more “knightly” appearance the Guardian had on the character-creation screen. They both feel kind of similar thus far, though.
Well, I originally played a Human Guardian, and to be honest, I still like it well enough. I dig his “Sigil” skills, since I have a habbit of forgetting about any skills beyond the first 6 :P
However, I’m also really digging the Norn Warrior and Charr Engineer. Granted, I’ve not even hit level 10 with either of them yet, but they both seem like good fun thus far.
I’m curious, how do these guys really line up at high levels? Are there any differences between Armor-designs? For this matter, does this game even have Class-based armor? Without spoiling anything, is any one’s story more memorable than the others, or even less so? Also, as someone driven by the pursuit of cool-looking gear, which do you think might offer the coolest items of the bunch?
Well, I’ve heard a few people recommend just farming the new event boss-spawns over and over again. How quick would that be, versus anything else?
Well, I’m level 20 now, just now returning after being without a decent PC. I’m eager to try to get leveled-up as quickly as possible. Any suggestions?
Just curious whether Dragon Bash might be a recurring holiday, or whether it’s a one-off event? Those Shattered-wings looks sweet, and I’d be all over trying to score them in the coming year
Well, I’m new back to GW2, so I don’t know whether this would have some further-reaching effects than I’m aware of, but speaking purely for myself, I would really dig having the option to just “store” item-skins. Even if it still costs to apply a skin to another item, I hate the idea of having to choose between holding a ton of cool-looking items, or sacrificing potential “looks” purely for the sake of bank-space.
Also, again, not gonna speak for anybody else, but personally? I would be a whole lot more tempted to purchase Skins and whatnot from the Gem Shop, if I knew I’d have full access to them, not just a “one-time use” appearance.
For example, I’m starting a Charr Engineer; I would totally pick up a set of armor-skins if I thought it would actually stay on him from start to finish. Same thing with my Norn Warrior, actually.
Same thing with Holiday-skins, I would hope; I’d personally find the idea a lot more inspiring if I felt it held some value beyond a single-use. Then again, in the case of holiday-themed skins, I suppose perhaps that’s part of the appeal? Who knows.
Anyways, just my point of view!
The wings are still available on the trading post, ~6g atm.
All the patch details are here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-August-6th-2013/first
Oh, that would be awesome!!! Although, I’ve only got 1g and some odd silver atm, hopefully I can work it up before the move up in price (is that for the regular wings, or the shattered, btw?)
Also, I’ll definitely give it a shot for leveling!!! I’ve actually been doing it anyways, just because it’s fun being in such a massive group, but I had actually thought I was leveling quite slowly. Does it just reward XP based on a percentage of your level or something?
Aww, I missed out on the awesome wings? kitten ! I’ve seen those all over the place, and was hoping those were obtainable. Bummer >_<
Well, hopefully there’s some equally-cool stuff to look forward to in the future. Speaking of which, what’s the deal with this “Queen’s Jubilee” event? Are there any cool rewards that low-level players can earn (my highest is 17 atm)?
Well, what in the way of Vanity-items might I have missed? I think I got everything from the Halloween event, but like I said, nothing since. And will any of those things make appearances again, you think? Or are they one-time-only events/rewards?
Well, since some kitten stole my PC last year, I’ve not had the opportunity to play — UNTIL NOW!!! MUAHAHAHAhahahahahhehehehmmm…..
So, in the name of just making myself incredibly jealous; what all awesome, never-coming-back stuff have I missed-out on? The last time I play was during the Halloween event, which was freaking awesome (even though that clock tower was truly maddening). I just logged on lastnight, and it seems I just missed some kind of political-event thing in Lion’s Arch? And, aside from the events themselves, what kind of rewards were around, that might not be returning?
Also… how do you pronounce the “Arch” in Lion’s Arch? Is it a hard “K” sound, or a “ch” like in chicken? These are the questions that need answering, my friends.
Hey, thanks for the responses, everyone! I’m still not sure what I’m gonna name him, though. I really like the idea of a Greco-Roman style of name, so long as it fits. Only thing, though; I’m not normally a big fan of surnames. It doesn’t necessarily need to be a “perfect” name, so much as someone that fits.
For example, on WoW, I named my orc “Drashuga”. It sounded very Orc-ish, without being an actual name used anywhere else. In fact, I reused the name on my Norn Warrior, although I’ve wondered whether that was a mistake, lol (don’t know what Norn names should “sound” like, either).
So, I’m just now installing GW2 on a new PC after a pretty long break, and for some reason, I’m really into the idea of playing a Charr, specifically. I’m kinda leaning towards Engineer, but not totally sure on that part.
Anyways, I’m terrible when it comes to making up names, but I’d really like something that sounds “Lore-friendly”. That is, something that sounds like it could be an actual character’s name, but isn’t. I don’t role-play or anything, but I just like the thought of having a character who just really “fits” into the world, ya know?
Also; what do you think about the Engineer? Does it actually fit the Charr, or not so much? And, without spoiling anything, any preferences on the character-creation choices?

For anyone here who hasn’t played DC Universe Online, that game has an AMAZING level of Character-Customization. It fact, it dwarfs practically any other game, but Guild Wars 2’s is pretty robust, as well.
Well, in DCUO, every time you acquire a new piece of equipment — be it Armor or Weapon — you automatically “learn” that item’s appearance. You don’t lose the item, and you don’t have to keep the item, either; you simply have access to its appearance, forever.
So, say I’m using my Avenger’s Longsword, which uses the “Avenger” graphic, but then I acquire a Superior Claymore of Frost. Once I equip it, I then learn the “Claymore” graphic. Now, I’m free to vendor my Avenger’s Longsword, but I can still use its appearance down the road, completely hassle-free. As well, I may acquire other swords down the road that share the “Claymore” appearance, and in those cases, you simply don’t learn a new appearance when equipping them.
Of course, I realize that there is already a system in place that utilizes Stones to “transmute” an items appearance; that’s fine! But instead of choosing a specific item you wish to use the appearance of, you would not be presented with a window that showcases all of the appropriate Weapon/Armor graphics you’ve ever acquired!
Hmm, well hopefully there’ll be a more reliable way before the event ends! Having gotten the slippers (simply because I’m a glutton for punishment), I’m actually tempted to try leveling up, as I’m only 15 atm. If I could get my hands on all the pieces, I’d pretty much have to level up, just so I could equip it :P
The Slippers come from the Clock Tower, but what about the rest of the pieces? Are they just randomly contained in the Labyrinth Chest? Or is there a more reliable way to get them? Thanks!
Honestly, I’m surprised it wouldn’t come with a special gem in it already.
I mean, I assume it was just referencing the new Events having gone live, or possible the Mad King’s Slippers, but I was just curious if there was some other reward that I was unaware of?
Seems like they’re be able to just incorporate a system kind of like DC Universe Online, where you just “learn” the appearance of an item. Even if it still required this Stone-thing to apply to graphic to a new item, seem like it would be cleaner, simpler, and leave less room for error.
So… they ARE re-usable, if I get one?
So, I’m still really new to the game, but I acquired a Black Lion Key somehow. Apparently, if I can find a Black Lion Chest, there’s a chance it could contain a “Weapon Skin”. From what I gather, you can use it to “enchant” a piece of loot to look a certain way, right? If so… are they reusable? Or just a one-time-only thing?
On that note, is there a way to use the graphic of existing items on others, kind of like “Transmogrification” in WoW? Is it worth holding on to certain items for that kind of purpose?
Honestly, I would REALLY dig having them available for use in Combat. I can understand the thought-process; they don’t want the game to feel too “silly”. Still, these outfits just look absolutely AWESOME, and perfectly fearsome enough to look right at home on the battlefield.
Hopefully, they are a bit more lax in regards to “Town Clothes” in the future, as I think they would be a lot more appealing if you could use them in-combat.
