{suggestion} Gifts used in legendary weapons

Terrin.2685

I have no interest in creating a legendary weapon.
However, I do like to get 100% map completion.
This leaves me with several gifts meant for the creation of legendary weapons that I have no use for but am reluctant to dump due to what it takes to get them.

Is there any way me and others like me can trade these gifts in for tokens (geodes, dungeon, etc.) and/or one of the unique exotic weapons (- the precursors)?

Guild Wars 3?

Terrin.2685

Due to the investment NCSoft put into Blade & Soul in order to get it running in North America they will likely never allow Guild Wars 2 to return to Cantha as it could end up being a challenge to Blade & Soul.

Due to the slow rate that we are dealing with the elder dragons it will be at least 10 years before the option to return to Elona ever comes up.

Instead of Guild Wars 3 how about they leave Guild Wars behind and create something new. Steam punk, cyber punk, sci-fi, and a modern setting are all settings that don’t get enough attention.

I have no interest in making a legendary weapon. However, I do like to get 100% completion on the various maps. This means that I, and probably many others, have gifts meant for the creation of legendary weapons and nothing to do with them.

Is there any way we can trade these gifts in for any of the various currencies (dungeon, jungle, etc.) or one of the numerous unique exotic weapons?

Can you offer alternate digital items?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Terrin.2685

Allowing us to pick what we want for digital items with the $75 and $100 version would be nothing more that swapping out bits of code, right?

Certainly no where near the logistics nightmare of swapping out physical items in a boxed version. But it appears as though Heart of Thorns is all digital so perhaps we could pick the items we want instead of the usual all or nothing offers.

I ask because aside from the 4000 gems there is nothing offered that I have any interest in and I doubt I’m the only one.

I’d swap the character slot for 800 gems (gem store cost), the Rytlock mini for 75 laurels (mini price at the laurel vendor), Revenant Finisher for account 2% gold find boost, the guild hall decoration for the art work from a dungeon armor skin, and the glider skin for the art work from a dungeon weapon skin.

It certainly isn’t limited to these ideas. I’d take some black lion tickets, more gems, more laurels, new armor designs like something light armor with pants, permanent account boosts, temporary boost, etc.

I hope you will consider it. The lack of a physical version would make customer selected digital rewards much easier to do.

It might help you get a good idea as to what customers are looking for in your game too.

As much as it loathes me to admit the selfie is a think that just won’t go away.

World of Warcrack is adding selfies so players can take better screenshots of their characters.

We’ve been asking for better camera controls for some time and is hasn’t happened. Maybe a selfie tool would be easier to implement.

What about rebuilding some of them around the dragons?

It annoyed me that we effectively abandoned our responsibilities as the second in command of the pact after Zhaitan falls. Setting up some of the dailies to act as continued efforts against the main villains of the game would be a good use for them.

So how about:

-Kill quota dailies against the minions of a specific dragon
-Event dailies in Or as clean up operations
-Resource gathering that delivered to Fort Trinity to aid the war effort/rebuild the pact
-Event dailies that involve fighting dragon minions over whole world zones instead of one area.

Most of the renown hearts are the kind of thing that would need to be dealt with on a regular basis.

-Reset a dozen or so renown hearts in any given world zone or across several zones on a daily basis so we can do them again.

I don’t know about armor dyes matching hair, but I’m really wanting more variety in the accessory colours. Even with the self-style hair kits you only get those 21 starter colours. Better yet, make them dyeable with the armor.

I like this idea. Using armor dyes as hair dyes would be a great next step in customer convenience. A fantastic step would be to add three or four dye slots to the characters hair for thinks like main color, highlights, tips of the hair, etc.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Terrin.2685

I prefer the old system because I could use it as a play limiting device. Once the dailies are done I would log out for the day. This way I don’t spend half of the day in game. The new design does not work for this at all. Would you consider adding an alarm clock to the game. Something that flashes in the middle of the screen that the time we’ve set it to as arrived.

The events in a specific zone daily could use an adjustment. Having a small army running around the zone can make it very difficult to get credit for an event because the content is devoured too fast. Instead of one specific zone how about a general world area. (tyria, ascalon, etc…)

The specific event daily isn’t all that great either. Not everyone has the attachment that tells you when its happening nor should we have to install a third part add-on to track it. If you are going to stick with this could you add the time it happens to the description of the daily?

The vista view daily seems like the kind of thing someone comes up with when they are out of ideas. How about a jumping puzzle in one of the general world zones (kryta, etc.) or joining in on a guild event or I don’t know….something other than a vista. Most people probably aren’t even watching it…just a quick start and a quick stop (which only serves to make the daily more pointless).

What would tempt you to make a new character?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Terrin.2685

Is there anything ArenaNet could add or change to tempt you into creating a new character?

I currently have only three characters. My plan was two characters per campaign (Tyria, Elona, and Cantha) with a third that runs all three.

However, posts in the Cantha thread on this board make it sound like NCSoft said no to a return to Cantha and with five elder dragons running around it will likely be a long time before we see Elona again.

With the current status of the game there is no good reason for me to create a 4th and 5th character.

However, if ArenaNet where to:

1. Give us access to Elona complete with a new starting zone and return of the Paragon and Devish classes,

2. Let us use our alternate characters as mercenaries while running dungeons,

3. Add dual-classing to Guild Wars 2,

I’d likely add new characters.

What about you? What would get you to create new characters?

Dumping the home instance

I don’t know what you guys had planned for the home instance originally but appears to have been abandoned.

Considering that only things that currently take place in the home instance have no need for a private instance (skill node, resource nodes) or come with their own private instance (story quests) it seems like keeping the home instance is just an unneeded inconvenience.

My suggestion: please remove the home instance.

Might I suggest allowing us to use our other characters as mercenaries in the same fashion we did in Guild Wars but limited to the dungeons.

It would allow people to play the dungeons at their own pace.

It would allow us to avoid the large number of people to see MMO dungeons as a job to be completed as fast as possible. I don’t know about you but I don’t have much fun being around these people.

It might encourage some people to create more characters. I’m set with three but would bump it up to five if I could use them as mercenaries.

You might be able to add dungeons to the living world again. I remember in season one the first week was high activity in the new dungeon but the second week was mostly a ghost town since those who wanted to do it had trouble finding a team.

[Possible Suggestion] Ranger Pet Name Issue

Terrin.2685

If there is not a way to do this, can I suggest ANet create a “Show pet name” options or just remove the guild tag showing by the pet’s name. Am I the only one annoyed by this?

No, your not the only one annoyed by this. I’m not fond of it either. Its bad enough its on my character’s name I don’t want to see it on my pets name. And since I’m not one for PvP, removing the guild tag shouldn’t cause any problems.

I personally like to see pet names but would like to have it made so that a name once given to a pet remains that pets name, not becomes the name of one of your other pets should you switch with other pets you have acquired.

I’d like to see this too. But its been an issue since Guild Wars and many people have asked for in Guild Wars 2 with no success. Odd are against it.

What's the endgame

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Its mostly the same thing that it is in every other MMO – grinding/achievements/dungeons. The main grinding spot these days is the new zone living world of season 2 opened up. Or you can grind the materials you’ll need to make your own ascended gear. The achievements can be accessed via the hero window. It seems the explorable mode dungeons are hard mode for Guild Wars 2.

It looks like they’ll be adding a raid some time soon too.

Please add end game raiding (10-20 mans)

Terrin.2685

I dont understand why people are against “instanced raids”. If anything this type of content will not be mandatory just like everything in GW2 and you are free to ignore it if you dont like it.

What is a RAID? In my opinion first of all raid is a TEAM. A team that is going to complete some different task – and that’s what makes it different from “open world zergs” and “semi afk 111 spam”. A team should have leadership, that’s why making a raid instanced is the closest viable solution.

Even now if you analyze closely what is going on during Triple Trouble event you will see that guilds de-facto use nearly empty maps (instances) to fill them with people who are willing to cooperate (not necessarily guildies). They de-facto bypassing “open world idea” because it simply does not work

No. It is not a team. A raid is quite often blind obedience and conformity to the “correct” way to play.

A team means input. A leader needs to know the weakness and strength of each class and be able to compensate for different builds. If what you say is true then each run would be different then the last just because of the different people in the raid and different builds. I never seen this happen in a 5 man dungeon. Raids quite often devolve into stand here, shoot that, and don’t move.

Anet – if you are really going to add this kind of dungeon then I have a simple request. If you going to require a raid to kill one of the Elder Dragons like you required a dungeon to kill Zhaitan then let us abandon the story so we can abandon the raid dungeon and move on to the next story.

Please add end game raiding (10-20 mans)

Good Evening,

So to be clear unnecessary comments about ‘True Gamers’, ‘Elitists’ and ‘Dress Up Players’ won’t be tolerated.

Chris

In my experience “elitists” and “true gamers” are the main types of players a raid attracts. I can only listen to the proper character build, gear, skills, path through the dungeon, tactics rhetoric for so long before I start to think the whole concept of an MMO is flawed. Haven’t you noticed that most looking for group entries mandate that you are experienced and/or level 80 at least?

But I see you don’t want a lot of negative whiners so I’ve got an idea. Instead of doing what everyone else has already done how about doing something almost no one else has done. Let us tell our own stories – give us an editor.

> The mini instance mechanic you use for the stories is the perfect delivery vehicle that would allow us to put our adventures anywhere in the game world.

> It would be all but self policed as we would quickly turn on anyone who tries to exploit or abuse it.

> It might supply you with ideas on where to go with the other elder dragons. Or ideas of stuff for us to do upon our return to Cantha and Elona. (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)

> I do think it would be wise to require your moderators indicate what is wrong with any given module so we know what to fix and more importantly we have some idea on how you are interpreting your own rules.

I get it. Its a huge amount of work. I hope you will consider it anyway. Adding an editor would set Guild Wars 2 apart from almost everyone else. I also understand I don’t know enough about your game inner workings to grasp how much work this would take to implement. But keep in mind that also applies to the half dozen or more people who are about to tell you this won’t work.

There are a few reasons why I suggest adding an editor. The standard “end game” is just concentrated repetition. I don’t get why so many people seem to think this is the best part of the game when it is so boring. Also, so many CRPG’s can trace their main design influence all the way back to Dungeons & Dragons and yet so few seem to understand that D&D main business plan was to support player made content.

Fighting over quest kills …. gone.
Fighting over resource nodes …. gone.
Fighting over choke point quest goals …. gone.

{Suggestion}A Hylek wants to steal my tree

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Terrin.2685

There seems to be a bit of a problem in Salma District in Divinity’s Reach. A group of Hylek seem to be trying to swipe one of the trees from wood harvest pack purchased via the gem store.

Full story: You put one of the trees almost on top of the krait obelisk. You did move the obelisk which is good. However, replacing it with a hylek is bad. His arm is actually passing through it which means I need to stand almost on top of it to be able to harvest it.

Can you move the hylek out of the area? They appear to be an ambassador and his guards so it seems odd they would even be in that area and not exploring the city or waiting to talk to the queen.

I know the tree is a minor issue but it is still annoying and that hylek been a bit of an issue since the obelisk was added to the game.

And while we are in the area the new plant harvest pack could use some pots. They are currently growing out of a stone block.

[Suggestion] Watchwork Pick V-Progression

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Terrin.2685

Terrin.2685

I don’t see it mentioned here so I’ll bring it up.
1. The gem store unlimited use gathering tools are an account item. Which means you can pass it between characters.
2. Each tool has had several variations. The first was a lava pick from the early part of living world season 1.
3. The current price is 1000 gems. That comes out to about $12.50. It sounds like your idea would nerf an expensive item that many people paid for with real world cash.
4. Not everyone can, wants to, or would even enjoy the standard end game grinding while putting up with the attitudes this generates that would be required to buy enough gems with gold in order to afford the gathering tool of choice.

Your ideas seems well thought out but you missed some critical information. I’m hoping ArenaNet passes on this idea.

I wonder if letting use our characters has henchmen in the dungeons would help?

I gave up on them in this game and all other MMO’s because I got sick of people following only the community approved proper path and excluding all else including people who want to do the side stuff.

Being able to use our characters as henchmen would open the dungeon up to everyone more than it currently is and get some people (like me) to take the time to build up a full team.

Suggestion: Improving the event compass

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Terrin.2685

Terrin.2685

This new event compass that directs you to map items (points of interest, vista, etc.) and the various events taking place on the map is… well… I’m not a fan. Its distracting and I really don’t need a baby sitter telling me where to go. The mini map was perfectly suitable if I needed a hint or two on which way to go.

However, since we are stuck with it I’d like to suggest a few things that might improve its usefulness.

1. Built it into the mini map. Reason: To reduce screen clutter.

That upper right corner can get really messy with dailies, story, and event notices taking up a lot of space.

2. Add a filter. Reason: Efficiency.

Its a bit frustrating and boring to bounce around the map trying to find that last point of interest we need to hit 100%. Most of us have had this problem or tried to assist someone asking for help on the chat channels. Nor is it any fun to aimless wonder around the level 80 maps hoping to stumble across the ancient wood or orichalcum nodes.

Ideally the filter would include:

ore nodes
points of interest
renown hearts
vista
way points
events
skill challenges
story instances/events
jumping puzzle starting points

A D&D wish for the non-end game people

in Living World

Posted by: Terrin.2685

Terrin.2685

When I first heard the name “Living World” I was hoping that meant we would be doing something with the rest of the world. Something centered on the adventures of the side characters. Those folks we meet here or there or just pass on the street have to have stories to tell too, right?

Sadly, Living World turned out to be just another save the world story line. And this one is heavily driven by achievement grinding. However, I get why you built it this way.

It occurred to me that most MMO’s depend almost completely on the end game people. They are the kind of people who like to do the same thing over and over. They stay the longest so its likely they pay the most. Your tight development schedule probably doesn’t give you much time to do anything else so why not let us do it.

Is there any doubt that Dungeons & Dragons is the dominate influence for RPGs? The two biggest aspects of D&D is the player made content your buddy makes and the rule books.

In the video games arena those D&D rule books are the printed version of an editor and your buddies adventure is a mod.

Suggestion: Give us an editor. Let us tell the short stories while you stick to the save the world adventures.

- Your mechanic for placing mini instances anywhere is the perfect delivery mechanic
– Most of us will not want to see this ruined. This all but guarantees we will turn on those that try to ruin it.
– It would be good if your moderators had to explain why a mod was stopped. This will help us know what to fix and give us a good idea on how they interpret the rules.

So, what do you think?

What do you wish for in Season 2?

in Living World

Posted by: Terrin.2685

Terrin.2685

Some things I’d like to see:

1. New permanent full world zones. This includes hearts, points of interest, vistas, skill challenges

2. Don’t tweak the story to add PvP or WvW. Just add it. Most people who do that stuff aren’t going to care about lore. They will be happy to have new maps to run around on.

3. Sink mutant crab island. Nothing but bad memories in that place.

1. Henchmen contracts for use in the dungeons. Works in both modes. I gave up on story mode because I can’t find a team. And I don’t fit in with the speed run people for the rest of it.

2. The armor sets broken up into individual pieces. I can’t be the only one who passed up a set because I didn’t want to spend $10 on a set when I’m only interested in one piece. Its comes out to 134 gems per piece. Perhaps 150 gems per piece or 800 for the set.

3. Costumes and armor from Guild Wars 1.

4. Some back items that are far more subdued than the outlandish wings we have been seeing.

5. More city clothes but only after we stop shifting back to combat gear when I stub my toe.

I would like to the 5 man dungeon build dumped completely.

Most dungeons in just about any MMO are stone cold boring largely because so much of the player base has an “its a job” attitude. Apparently its a job they don’t like judging by how little is said, how often people leave without a word, how fast they run through it, and how fast the team breaks up once its done.

Scarlet's Shoulders & Gloves in gemstore

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Terrin.2685

Terrin.2685

No, they are over priced no matter which way you look at it.

It you bought the gems with cash it comes out to about $1.68 per piece for the 800 gem armor sets. For the scarlet gear its $5.00 per piece. That’s is a 298.5% mark up.

While you can exchange gold for gems how long would it take to get enough for 800 gems? I find grinding extremely boring would likely quit the game taking this path.

So you either spend too much money or too much time. Either way these thing are way too expensive.

The last of the old school MMO Mechanics

Terrin.2685

One of the best things about Guild Wars 2 is that not only did you acknowledge several old school MMO mechanics as a problem you fixed them. Unlike most MMO developers *cough*Blizzard*cough*Bioware*cough* who embraced them you did away with them and created a much more user friendly entertainment service and gaming community.

However, you missed one. The five man dungeon still exists. And along with that comes the “have the best gear, be top level, memorize the dungeon, get it done yesterday, its a job not a game” attitude. I’m sure you’ve seen the “must be 80” and “must be experienced” requirements for almost all exploreable dungeon looking for group requests.

It isn’t much fun being around these kinds of players. As a result I’ve given up on the Destiny’s Edge story line and legendary weapons. However, I see a glimmer of hope for the future.

The Tower of Nightmares stuck me a dungeon built as a free running event. Are you guys looking for an alternative to the five man dungeon? Its got to be frustrating watch these older living world dungeons be mostly ignored by the majority while the minority try in vain to find a team during the second week of the event.

If you are looking for an alternative then I whole heartedly request more.

A few ideas that might help:
1. Quicker rebalancing so individuals have a chance of surviving on their own or when they get left behind.

2. Reintroduce henchmen as part of the NPC insertion team that would only be available up to a certain point of player population

3. Small NPC teams that spawn in areas of low player population. They could stay and hold the area or retreat when enough players arrive.

Ranking is tricky. It depends too much on someone’s point of view. What one person thinks of as jerk behavior others could easily see as acceptable.

Perhaps the group finder could offer an option to indicate what type of dungeon run you are looking to do. An option for speed runs and another for story would probably be used the most.

The speed runs would be for the people who do dungeons a lot. They are the ones who follow the community defined path, take all the short cuts, expect the fights memorized, abuse the exploits, etc. Extra rewards of some kind could be offered for beating the clock. Anything from more laurels and karma to higher chances for exotics.

The story option isn’t limited to the Destiny’s Edge story run but also the explorable mode. Its for people who have never been there or what to take their time. Its for people who want to see what’s over there or around that corner that the speed people won’t ever touch. As a reward/incentive a few small chests/resource nodes could be sprinkled throughout the dungeon in the out of the way areas.

Give us the possibility.

Being able to buy stacks of items from vendors probably should have been there on release.

Any chance you would be willing the sell these as individual pieces instead of full sets?

I don’t much care for the Aetherblade designs as a whole but would probably get the light and medium armor boots if I could buy them separately.

On a separate but related note I assume the clothing list will grow over time. Its already getting long. A set of filters that allow us to view only leggings or gloves or boots or whatever type of clothing we are looking for would be very helpful.
