Judging by the responses, I think I have the answer to that question I asked you Arius..

For others, in the past couple matches, it seems like hacking is becoming rampant. I used to encounter one maybe once a day or so. Now, its every hour or two.

It used to just be thieves, in my experience, but there is certainly not that limitation any more! I cant even remember all the times in that past couple weeks that I could NOT hit someone, even if they were standing still (still not sure what this is about). Speed hacking has become common as well.

Gotta love it when they spam /laugh at you : |

I am looking forward to WildStar, ArcheAge, The Repopulation, Camelot Unchained, and definitely want to see what the new EQ is all about.

Though, I will probably continue playing GW2 frequently unless one of the others really catches me up in it.

I WAS looking forward to ESO..

How is RP played?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tuluum.9638

Tuluum.9638

RP can be done in a ton of different ways.

The most common seems to be sitting in a general area and working through a story with other people. It takes twists and turns according to ALL of the people interacting.

However, a bit more rare is RPing while actually playing the game. This is harder to do, so I suspect that is why it is not as common.

Even more rare are those who do PvP (including WvW with GW2) and RP.

It is only really limited by the game and the imagination of the participants. You basically just come up with who your in-game character actually is (history, personality, etc) and play it out. OOC (out of character) is denoted in several different ways, and as long as its clear is OOC, you can usually do it as much as you want depending on the people you are RPing with. Double parenthesis like this: ((this is one way to denote OOC chat)) are a common way.

I have never personally enjoyed participating in “tavern” RP, though it adds an incredible atmosphere to the game world.

I think it would be fun, and I did send an in-game mail.

However, I am pretty rusty and I REALLY prefer RPing while actually doing stuff. Especially WvW. I greatly miss the old days of RPing in PvP.

So, I am interested. But, I have never been much the type to just sit in one place talking a lot!

@Madora;

I assume you are on SF?

In my experience, SF tends to have a ton of fair weathers, even in proportion to other servers in the same rankings. While a lot of wubbers consider this to be a detriment to their overall goal, I cant say I agree with that in totality.

Going against a server like HoD, as a fairweather, could only be demoralizing. And when it happens to a server at these levels, losing your fairweathers will mean the difference between a close match and a blow out. I actually understand why SF was approaching this match as one they had already lost, since SF players have more insight to their wvw health before going into a match.

The people that ARE on SF though, have definitely made improvements. I am of the mind that almost every server that isnt at the top/bottom of their league is putting a lot of effort in. I have seen improvements on almost every server since the beginning of leagues. DH was a bit slow to catch up due to various things, but it eventually happened. I actually think that the leagues were very good in this way (but not many others).

I could go into how I think SF, specifically, could improve. But, my interactions are not only from the outside, but only from the places on the battlefield that I interact. Pointing out specifics may even be a hindrance because those specifics may only be symptoms of the problem rather than the problem itself, depending on whatever is going on within the server.

I would say HoD is several iterations beyond the stage of development that DH is at. And even though they have vast room for improvement as well, fighting them is a stark task and is not a good environment for fairweathers. And I think most of the servers in this league depend quite strongly on fairweathers to fill up maps.

Either way though, there are many, many more matches to come and plenty of time for us all to work on our play. I hope that we can all keep each other on our toes enough that all of us have to constantly and consciously improve every match to have the chance at winning.

Week 7 - SF/DH/ET - Thread The Second

in Match-ups

Posted by: Tuluum.9638

Tuluum.9638

I havent really been playing much this match, but I am a little surprised at the difference in perspectives among our servers.

SF is saying that before this match, they were expecting to lose. On DH, a lot of the people I talked with said that it was going to be a very, very close match due to the sheer volume of SF wvw participants. I dont know of anyone that felt it was going to be a match like its turning out to be (just according to the millenium site).

It seems the match with HoD made a lot of the fairweathers give up on SF, and I think that is the demoralizing aspect that others have been talking about. I know that many say “good riddance,” but even fair weather numbers still contribute!

DH did make some basic changes though, and that helps too. But, DH has a LOOOOOONG way to go as far as improvements are concerned. We basically just learned how to actually work together instead of fighting with ourselves and the other servers at the same time. We are starting to practice the very basics of teamwork, and its showing.

I think you will see some of DH settle into that as “mission accomplished,” with no further improvement outside of those aspects. While that isnt exactly “good” for DH, it will mean the disparity between servers in these rankings wont grow too much and it should be easy for servers like SF to catch up by improving on whatever aspects they are struggling with.

Which, in the end, just means great matches for the future!

Yes a lot of people on the server are newb’s or pugs whatever you want to call them, but really, everyone is at some point, and even if they are they will learn and they will become better but only if you tell them and teach them how to be better. I know I suck at 1v1’s and pvp in general and probably always will, but I am good at coordinating defensive strategies and following direction by a good commander.

Perhaps I am unique in this, but I do not view PUGs and newbs to be the same thing.

Some of our PUGs are some of the best players we have, it would be good if we started including them in operations in case TS becomes… undesirable for some of us.

Not saying I am one of the best players, because I play mostly Asura and we are at an innate disadvantage. Basically the ankle biters of the wvw realm, ya know?

Once we, DH, start to learn how to integrate everyone in wvw into the same overall plan (easily done through chat), then I think people will see an entirely new DH and wonder “where our transfers came from.”

Heck, I doubt many of the people posting even know who I am when I am playing, but I do have a good idea or two once in a while!

@ Acium;

I still think it would be a good idea to create a boot camp of sorts for new players, with experienced players as teachers.

I play too many characters to get the commander tag on just one, so it would be a huge boon to get some people with tags/main characters to help!

Its the sort of thing I participated in with EVE, and it was a HUGE success. Turnover was expected to be high as some people get very serious about their games, and dont want “noobs” cramping their style. But, as it ended up, we just started a subsection of the corp to cater to it, as they simply didnt want to leave the open and friendly environment.

I think having such an organization on our server would help minimize this type of typical MMO drama, and also help new players feel more welcome to the game and get them up to speed much more quickly.

I actually was going to start this when leagues started, but real obligations got in the way.

Doesn’t seem to be a that big a problem. You are still kicking our butts this week.

Currently, it isnt. But most of us on DH have seen this before and know where it is going. Honestly, I would guess that some of the people directly involved with the problem were witnesses to the same. It also prevents us from actually improving as time is spent doing… well, numerous things.

So, its not necessarily about the state of our server right now, but more about where this road leads.

When I was unpacking and setting up my house I had laid my Tower and Monotor in my office and when I came back with my marble top dresser i accidently kicked over my monotor and stepped on it, cracking the screen. Then I got mad and my hand slipped off the dresser and the full wait of the marble landed on the tower… smashed it and my soul at the same time. ;.;

Well that sucks.

If you want, PM me with a budget and I can give you a parts list that gives you the most bang for your buck (its one of my jobs). To save a bit of money, you can even use your TV (if you have one) as a monitor. Even if it doesnt have the right connections, there are adapters that are pretty cheap that will probably make it work.

idk i feel like whoever chased off ABYS and SE and made them want to leave are still on DH and history seems to be starting to repeat itself.

In my experience “peacekeeping” online is extremely difficult when people’s egos are inflated x 1,000 behind the safety of teh interwebs.

whoever got upset/angry first is at fault here, no matter the situation.

I dont think its the same people (I could be wrong), just the same behavior.

Its pretty incredible how anonymity changes peoples actions isnt it? Heck, even when driving a car people start to show their “true form.”

Either way, its time for people to get over it and move on. If history is any indication though, that is unlikely to happen. Hopefully it does though. If such things continue to escalate, then the best outcome for DH would be transfers. As long as the egos are at war, the entire team suffers. It makes it rough for a bit, but at least we would have the opportunity to rebuild in a fashion that avoids this type of bs. And, while such internal conflicts go on, the badly needed improvement on all sides will continue to be ignored.

It doesnt matter who started it, who did what, or any of that high school type stuff. What matters now is getting our kitten together and improving as a server and as a team. Who knows if that will happen though, time will tell. Anyone who is willing to just say “hey, this drama is not as important as our team” gets respect in my book.

Some drama here and there is pretty entertaining, but when its bogging down the server it becomes an issue.

[Fun] has no issues with [Anbu]. We do our own thing to help the server; all we ask for is support from the other guilds.

If Assassin X or some other member from Anbu wants to attack us, they can go for it. We do more for the server anyways. But if the majority of Darkhaven wants to attack us, you can understand why we wouldn’t want to fight for you guys anymore.

I came back from a 3 month break around 2 months ago. I made Fun into a WvW guild and recruited the best commanders I could find to balance out the loss of SE/FURY/Abys. We don’t WANT to leave the server, and that is definitely not our intention. However, we are looking into server transfers for the guild if this goes on. We’ll probably make our decision by the end of the season, so it all depends on how DH is feeling at that moment.

I dont know the whole story between [ANBU] and [FUN], nor is it really my business. All I know is that such internal conflict weakens a server until one, or both, guilds leave. The only other option is to work it out, though I have yet to see that happen on DH. The fighting between two larger guilds leaves the majority of the server in the dust.

The only thing I would personally ask is to not base the overall opinion of “DH” on a single guild. I believe that we have the core to really do something, but doing so as a team will lead us to the most success.

Honestly, I have had more commanders listen to my suggestions lately than ever before. Thats a very good thing! If we work as a team, where ideas and strategies can come from anyone, then we can really start moving forward and getting better together. I think one of the best things we could do at this point is try to include everyone as much as we can. TS is a great tool, but instead of rejecting anyone who isnt in it, or those who make simple mistakes (like putting down wrong fields), we could actually work on educating people regardless of if they are in our personal “clique.”

I have been saying that since a couple days after release though, so I dont expect it to change. That said, if it does, we will see a new DH even if all of the people are essentially the same.

DH you better appreciate [FUN] because they are saving your kitten at night and if you don’t then someone else will, I know we would.

Some of us do appreciate it!

Some commanders can be abrasive though, and I think that is where a lot of the issues come from. They can give good advice, but it can come with a tinge of insult. I feel that a lot of our commanders are not necessarily open to constructive criticism, regardless of delivery though.. so I think people being abrasive is only a part of a bigger issue.

DH, like so many other servers, has gone through the rough rides of large guilds assimilating a bunch of players and then leaving. This has happened several times on DH, and I am sure several times on many other servers. So, when the hint of this comes up, well.. the results are as expected.

The drama between [ANBU] and [FUN] is destructive to DH, as such infighting would be to any server. Its not new, many of us have seen such a thing happen before and know exactly what the results from that have been. Its made me want to steer clear of both until they get their kitten straightened out for the greater good of the server.

Once we learn that the team is [insert server name here], not some individual guilds, then we can make some progress. That doesnt mean that loyalty to a guild cant surpass that of loyalty to a server, but as long as we are all on the same server, we are all on the same team.

Some of our new commanders have really been stepping up though, and even asking for constructive criticism. Eventually, I hope to see a zerg portal kiting with elevation changes. Then I will know we are actually making progress as a server!

Stealth and Speed Hacks in WvWvW

in WvW

Posted by: Tuluum.9638

Tuluum.9638

I am aware that there are a lot of hacks going on, but the latest one that I have been encountering is the stealthing that people are talking about.

Some have mentioned it is some consumable, but I am not able to find one that doesnt explicitly state (on the wiki) that it can not be used in WvW. Of course, that assertion could be wrong.

Since leagues started, specifically, I have seen multiple occasions of classes going into stealth at 50%+ health. There is definitely something going on beyond just clever play of a “pocket thief.” I have seen a trio of a mesmer, warrior, and thief make it appear the same, but it has some glaring differences. One being that the thief/mes eventually pops up even if only for a second.

The class I have noticed it the most on is warriors, and until I looked into it further, I was actually assuming that they received a new trait like the Rangers “Hide in Plain Sight.”

Guild Wars 2 Geared for Older Audience?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tuluum.9638

Tuluum.9638

Alright so I guess a little back story on my part. I am 18 at the moment. I have been playing MMORPG games for a very long time. (since maybe 13 years old).

Not meaning to sound rude or contentious, but describing a 5 year history of online gaming as a very long time is a bit of a stretch …

Oh Im sure you can remember the time in your life when 5 years really was a “very long time.”

My advice to those that think as much is to relish it as long as you can. That changes whether you like it or not, and soon enough, you will be seeing threads like this and thinking to yourself “five years is a very long time?” I think it just makes us older folks reminiscent of those years where you had no doubt you had it all figured out… Its a good time, though, its hard to appreciate in the moment.

I dont think its as much geared towards a mature audience (given the content), but it is definitely marketed towards people who are a bit jaded with the SSDD of most of the MMOs out there. Some of it is changes for the better, some for the worse… some really isnt even new.. but it does “feel” different than games that some of us have been playing for a very long time ( ).

In my gaming history I have always played games with people of all ages and walks of life. I do not see any difference in GW2 as compared to those games. edit: Then again, age rarely even comes up as a topic of discussion.

Pls remove achivments from Season of WvWvW

in WvW

Posted by: Tuluum.9638

Tuluum.9638

For me, this is a bit of a double edged sword.

All I play is wvw, and I actually really like the skins you can get for AP. I probably dont need to go any further as to why I enjoy being able to generate AP by playing WvW. Basically, now I actually can.

The other side is, it is definitely bringing in people who only care about them. And, they will undoubtedly leave when they get what they want (locusts ). Even then though, some might stay, which for non-t1 servers is mostly a very, very good thing.

I am waiting to see how it all plays out, because in a week or two, all of those players will be gone from wvw, but wvw players will still have the opportunity to earn AP.

On another note, some servers actually try to involve the “militia PUGs” in movements? I have always thought that would result in a great strength if a server did it. Better player retention, no arbitrary rules (get in TS or get out of our zerg!), better communication for those without TS, and better coordination for the entire server.

Whenever I have tried to bring it up to my server, I essentially get laughed at and told “PUGs will never mean anything, the only people who contribute are those on TS.” I would absolutely LOVE to get out of that mindset and environment…

Outmanned buff

in WvW

Posted by: Tuluum.9638

Tuluum.9638

What’s wrong with making it a scaling buff, inversely proportional to the % by which the team is underrepresented?

That concept has been presented quite a few times at this point, and I think it could solve a lot of wvw issues. Though, I think that having the buff dynamic might start to make issues like skill lag worse. If the buff was just set at two or three intervals, then it could be adjusted by doing an equation that compares player count in any given map (which should already be happening for the current buff).

Ideally, it would be to any given area within a map (imo), but I am not sure that is feasible.

“Balance” issues could be easily adjusted by changing how much of a buff is given.

Adding anything in might make some issues much worse, so who knows what can actually be done.. It seems that the outmanned buff already gets applied, but I am not sure what its “target audience” is. I really only care about the removal of repair costs, but I have never found that to be too much of a problem when our server isnt outmanned on a map.

Most of the people who leave do so because the match is lopsided and not that much fun to play. “Fixing” why that happens seems to be the purpose of the Outmanned Buff, but I am not convinced that it fixes anything. At best, it just makes it less painful for the people that do decide to stick it out.

DH doesnt currently know how to handle flanks or perform them (regardless of if it is a map flank over larger distances, or an in-battle flank). If you are able to get a few of your guys to chase them out of speldan, you can have the majority of your group already at Anz waiting. Most of our PUGs will do exactly what you said they did, pretty much every time. So, feel free to send enough to look “threatening” and have the rest wait right outside the closest DH owned tower.

Sometimes we learn best by having our habits shown as our weakest link (predictability).

I dont see how the League system is fun

On the note of colorblindness, there are different types of it. I am not sure Anet was aware of this when they did that… I have some colorblind issues, but did not have problems differentiating between the circles. Now that they changed it for the “colorblind,” it is in a spectrum that I am blind towards. They look exactly the same now. Still makes me lol.

As for the OP points, I am having some issues understanding the direction changes as well. They dont make sense to me. The only thing I can figure is they are the start to a very long term plan that may go somewhere that works. Maybe that is misplaced hope, but I am hanging on to it..

The biggest issue in WvW, imo, is the population and coverage imbalances. And it seems to me that every change made makes these issues even worse. I would much rather they just ignore them than implement changes that only exacerbate the main issues even more. Again though, maybe they are going somewhere with this that I am unable to see. I sure hope that is the case. I really do.

First of all, we didn’t have that many supplies.

mmmk..

And we were thinking of kill farm you guys anyway

I always thought that was the idea in holding the third floor. Farming. Of course, if the action dies down might as well go for a cap. Gives some more time to set up an even better farming scenario. Why else would you even bother with a third floor hold? Well, maybe a nekkid dance party.

If you want us to stop resetting all your towers, taking your sm every single day we log on, please give us some zergs to fight… We were really bored when everything’s empty…

I dont mind the resetting. Makes it nice to level alts, or get moar wxp for those mastery lines! I stopped buying upgrades when it became clear that the game has significantly more rewards for attacking, which also means much less people defending innately.

I still have trouble convincing a lot of people that choke points are useful.

So, thank you for allowing us to get more individual rewards for those of us who like our alts. Your help is greatly appreciated, and I thank you kindly for helping me level my alts even more efficiently and quickly. Its at the cost of PPT, but thats not really a concern for DH at this point.

Your trolling skills could really use some work… I suspect the lack of creativity is a product of the EGAT generation, no?

;)

LMAO and u say we dont coordinate?! 32 of us (DH) steady stayed wiping GoM 50+ zerg in EB.. and took GoM keep.. nice +5 ppt GoM.. keep talking trash about DH and ill be sure to turn that +5 to +0

Come on… If you are a commander, you should be setting the tone of the players that follow you. And if you are the commander I am thinking of… why u place siege directly under AC fire so much?

lol, wherever the confusion may lie, i don’t think it’s on gom/ar side on this point. thus, the comments about entire server running around in one big huddled mass…

ar frequently runs commanderless (until recently i guess), and does fine organizationally through map / party / guild chat and ts even though we’ll have a number of untagged commanders on the map.

You are just repeating what I am saying

DH needs to work on their core for the reasons stated above, which is exacerbated by the reasons stated above. AR has a good core for the reasons stated above, and only need some numbers/coverage for the reasons stated above.

Matchmaking system leads to these disparities in score (as you can see in almost every NA matchup this week), and all servers at these tiers have room for improvement.

Agree/disagree? We can try from there.

we’re not asking for pity, we’re doing just fine… its called a change in play style tactics. you’re not going to find a huge mass of players that roll you like cd or tc or any high ranked server.

if you want a fun match up, split the horde. don’t bring the entire server in one place at one time. we weren’t the ones asking were everybody was, weren’t even in this thread complaining about anything. we can weather the storm, makes little difference to us one way or the other; we’d rather be playing but… you know; not against that big ball of hate.

There is no pity, at least not from me. I have solely been going into AR territory, and leaving GoM pretty much alone. I enjoy fighting folks from AR, on average, so that is where I go.

That said, it may make a little more sense if you understand that DH frequently only has one commander on. Some times, there is only one commander on in any map and sometimes none at all.

So, when you have a large portion of times when there is only one commander, that is where a lot of people flock to. I know we lost some, but I think that a lot of commanders arent tagging up anymore as well. I have yet to see a queue even on EB in the past few weeks, though I am sure there have been times when there is one. Our wvw is mainly made up of disparate parts, and there are not a whole lot of large guild groups right now. So, it makes it tougher to split up if you arent just roaming.

Its just that this is how the rankings system currently works, especially with that RNG component. I reserve judgment on the league system until we see it in action, but I have my doubts. I would love to see a meaningful solution that could efficiently compensate for population and coverage differences in WvW.

Almost every single NA match is exactly the same as this one. But as far as AR is concerned, I think you guys have a lot of promise as a server in the future. You have a great core, and once the numbers start to fill out, you are going to be a formidable server. DH has a bit of the opposite issues, where we are working on getting a solid core.

In my experience, this is how a lot of the matches play out nowadays. So, I guess I just look to other areas of focus, like constant improvement and learning.

Yea that didn’t last long. You just took SM with about 5x the numbers we have on the entire map.

The door swings one way for one hour a day then comes flying back at us with the force of a thousand uplevel zerglings who /dance on our corpses.

Such a shame. There’s nothing you can do against that many players when you have so few yourself. I saw your zerg build a superior catapult under 10 guys aoeing the kitten out of the blueprint and we didn’t kill a single one because we reached the AoE cap so easy (my bleeds were ticking for 185).

Whenever I see a DH I know he’s heading towards the zerg. Nothing is done without your zergs

This is how it is in pretty much every tier except for tier 1. There are matches where you are outnumbered and matches where you do the outnumbering. While the numbers may be different from tier to tier, proportionally it is exactly the same experience.

The matches that are the roughest are the ones where you get no momentum at any point during the week, even for the briefest moments.

On a funny note, I was there when that was happening, and said “acs can hit there.” Dunno why they didnt try for siege from ogreswatch. It happened twice in the past little bit.

I still have found plenty of great matches roaming, especially with a lot of players from AR. Zergs do tend to stick to the main arteries through the map, so I find the best way to avoid it (either your own or the enemies zerg) and find some great small fights is to take the paths less traveled.

And just for example, we are currently outmanned (DH) in EB right now. Pretty heavily outnumbered by AR, probably by 3/4:1.

The door swings both ways.

I dont think you guys on AR are giving yourselves enough credit, honestly. You fight hard, you seem to have plenty of people in your prime time, and you use great strategy.

Perhaps the system is to blame. However, I have been playing GW2 for about 4 months now, and I can’t remember a time where AR had a zerg or numbers advantage. (EDIT: I chose the server randomly, I regret not doing research as I bought this game for the WvW combat system). This must predate me. All I know is, my playstyle of small group play is currently impossible in this matchup environment because the one time I have been able to significantly play WvW, AR has been outmanned everywhere, the whole map was green, and anytime I tried to do anything, including taking a camp, I was hit by more than 20.

I know it happens, and you guys are a much higher tier. It is also something we are going to have to get used to when leagues come. Perhaps I will just have to find something else to do during these times. I’ll play it by ear.

Well, its all about selectivity. There have been plenty of encounters where I was either by myself or a few other people and we were constantly zerged over by either AR or GoM. Its just how it goes in mass scale pvp.

Now, speaking overall, DH does have a numbers advantage, but a severe organizational disadvantage. We also seem to have an enormous amount of new players. I think something a lot of people lose sight of is that there is a constant flow of new players to all servers, and I constantly see on DH things like “you should know this,” etc. From other servers, it comes in the form of “none of you can fight! you all suck!”

Some people have played a lot more than me, but I have been on DH from very close to the start (couple days after release I transferred) and have about 25k wvw kills. Nothing to brag about, but its enough to have seen quite a few patterns repeat.

Small group play is very, very difficult in a mass scale PvP environment, and even more so with the limitations and restrictions that Anet has in place. Everything from AoE limits to “zerg rewards” all cater to a specific type of play, so that is exactly what you will see. Many people claim they only care about good fights, but most are more concerned with winning than losing in any context.

Hope to see ya out there.

no GoM or AR anywhere. no roamers or anything, what the actual F?

When you get rolled by 30+ when you have a group of 1-3 it becomes not fun and we find something else to do. In addition, spawn camping us with more than 5x our number does not induce more people to come WvW. You literally zerged your opponents away, so your complaints are your own servers doing. Sorry.

To be fair, I have seen this from every server in the match up, and every match up I have ever been in. I have seen 30+ zergs from every server here, though I would say that DH has more presence and coverage (an opinion derived from the score).

I have seen this happen against every server and from every server. And as someone who frequently solo roams, I tend to be outnumbered most of the time.

Its just wvw, I really dont think it is specific to any server. I am still finding plenty of solo roamers, but most from AR tend to be opportunistic in a negative fashion. I like a good fight, where everyone knows whats going on before it happens. I cant tell you the number of times I have downed an AR player and didnt stomp them (I consider it respectful) only to have them and some buddies immediately hunt me down.

Same goes for every server I have ever played against. If I have a good fight, I just wont stomp/stake my opponent. To most, I guess that is a green light to gang up and spam /laugh.

Dems da breaks. Its just how it goes in a large and competitive social environment. I dont think you can blame it on any server, but in the system which we all reside.

AR, I really like fighting against ya. Yeah, yeah, none of us on DH can press buttons but regardless a lot of your guild groups have my respect (Im lookin at you ZERO).

DH is obviously in a different place right now, but we are simply not as bad off as many want to make it (both those who are still here, and those who transferred off). The most damaging thing for our server right now is focusing on guilds that are no longer here.

Henosis [ONE], starting around league time, will be recruiting new members. However, it is specifically a different guild than your usual. We will only be accepting new players, and those willing to help new players learn the ropes of WvW. If we can get the server to get behind this sort of cohesive movement, we could really be on to something. There will be high turnover to more “serious” guilds, but people are always welcome to stay and teach others as well.

It would be a boot camp guild of sorts, where the people are not afraid to ask questions and the more experienced players are not opposed to helping them. We will see how it all goes, but for those on DH.. lets just remember that experience is what we make of it. We can learn from the past, and try something new or continue down the same path that we ALL know ends up in the same place.

To be fair, I dont think anyone, anywhere could have possibly seen this coming. Unless they had some sort of crystal ball, or had actually tried it in-game before.

Oh.. wait….

:D

On a serious note (kind of)→ Change orb buffs to be the outmanned buff. It wouldnt fix everything, but instead of a step in the COMPLETELY wrong direction, it would at least be working towards realistic solutions. Maybe Anet doesnt want that though? I have been seriously considering that option for a bit now..

US Leagues - 4 instead of 2! Please!

in WvW

Posted by: Tuluum.9638

Tuluum.9638

A guildie and I were just talking about this yesterday.

We both actually like the idea of leagues, but the split seems to completely disregard the actual population and coverage differences between the servers.

It would seem to me that the league split should be based on an actual fair split, instead of arbitrarily.

While four leagues in NA would not completely solve the pop/coverage differences, I think it would get much, much closer than two. Heck, if it was split into four, I would even be excited about it! As it stands, I am not too thrilled about getting our server trashed week after week with only a couple weeks where we will likely trash lower populated servers. All I hope is that we at LEAST get a week or two with halfway decent matches.

At this point, I will probably be playing much, much less during half of the matches. Capping supply camps and taking out dolyaks, with the occassional tower ninja gets a bit old after a while. Especially when it is complemented by being melted in .5 seconds to a sea of red constantly. I dont think its too much fun for either side, but I also know plenty of people enjoy being in that sea of red.

I suppose Anet will find out when it is actually implemented and they see the feedback and data from the game.

DH is one step ahead of ya on that one!

Three weeks ago, we fought the “new” SBI and have had to fight CD two weeks in a row now. Plus, before the SBI match even ended one of our larger guilds transferred to SBI make it even more lopsided. Not including all the other guilds that somehow were “abandoned” by DH by transferring away themselves, lol.

All that said, I actually am interested to see where SBI falls now. I am pretty sure they have more people than any one they have faced for quite some time, including this week.

Time to make Ranks Account-Bound

in WvW

Posted by: Tuluum.9638

Tuluum.9638

I could see the WXP being account wide, but the specific WvW skills being character specific. I.E. you earn a core amount of WXP, but can allocate it per character.

I agree that it isnt particularly friendly to those with alts, but I think there are bigger issues that discourage alts. Not only that, but they discourage build/theorycrafting. Thats my biggest frustration with the game right now. If I want to try a completely different build with ascended gear, we are talking about a good amount of resources. I have also tried just working with exotics, but as a WvW player solely that does not run in big zergs, I do not earn much money. So, then I downgraded to rares and masterworks to try out different builds. However, they do not give a true idea of how well the build works against characters that are most likely much better geared.

The introduction of even more time gated gear will only exacerbate this problem, but it seems the direction the game is heading has no regard for those of us who greatly enjoy constantly changing builds and trying new things.

The WXP is only a piece of the bigger picture where altaholics and theorycrafters are actively discouraged.

Will there be an official response to Sacrx?

in WvW

Personally, I dont care about red guard or anyone in it. Never met them, so I have no basis for any feelings whatsoever. The amount of “hero worship” present in things like this is just downright strange to me.

That said, I do think that Anets focus needs to be shifted. WvW could be a very real boon to GW2 if it was a strong focus. I will say that a good amount of enjoyable things have been added, but they have their drawbacks (especially to someone like myself who loves alts).

I was actually thinking, before release, that WvW was going to be the focus of the esport thing. I did not look into it much, knowing that the vast majority of pre-release info is hyped or biased in some way. This one aspect had me pretty excited, since esport is such a limited thing at this point in time. Its like having the term “sports” but the only one actually played is golf. I want to see new esport formats and thought WvW was going to give it a go somehow, but it was my own fault for not looking into it further.

There are a lot of issues to be fixed though, some that are just odd and frustrating. Wall lips, phase-shifting dolyaks, reward disparities between game modes, and more. But, I actually dont mind the focus on siege, as I have posted about before. I enjoy that it adds a layer of strategy beyond just open field combat. I also feel it needs a bit of a makeover. For those that know nothing else, I can also see that adapting to a new playstyle would not only be difficult, but downright despised in some cases (many people hate change).

Will Anet respond to this? No. Will Anet start focusing on WvW more? I hope so. Regardless of what has been said in the past, the health of the game will guide the companies decision making. If neglecting WvW (which I dont feel has been done to the extreme degree many insinuate) causes lost revenue, they will most likely give it more attention if its a choice between losing their job due to lack of revenue, or saying they were wrong about their priorities.

Maybe some day.. DH will see some meaningful transfers like so many other servers.

I wish Anet would hash out the transfer fees a bit better, as DH is mainly a PvE server but those wishing to transfer for WvW have to pay roughly the same fees as much higher ranked servers.

Regardless, I have had some fun this match. Even though I havent seen a queue on any map, at any time, for several weeks. I suppose that is both good and bad.

The Profession with the highest skillceiling?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tuluum.9638

Tuluum.9638

I put engi at highest skill ceiling, and a relatively strong “win” in my mind.

The next batch I would put warriors, mesmers, and necros.

Next up would be ranger and thief.

And then eles and guardian.

Consequently, I also put ele at the highest skill floor. And, I think that playing any class to its full potential not only takes talent, but also a significant amount of time and dedication. None are “easy” to reach their skill ceiling on, imo, and the only one that really stands out to me is the engi. The rest seem to be relatively interchangeable in a lot of ways, so this was just how it went for me more than making a general ruling. Not to even remotely imply I have taken the classes to their actual ceiling, just my own ceiling. :P

Except for the engi. I think there is still a ton to learn about the class.
