NEVER FORGET
You’ll only have to worry about IoJ doing that. NSP focused you because you were the biggest threat, not because we were in some alliance. Take it as a compliment. :P
I never said I had an issue with the whole deal, its been pretty clear for the entire match what is happening!
I enjoyed the closer match. There was definitely an alliance though, just read the thread.
And yeah, the pats on the back should be between BOTH NSP and IoJ.. and not just a single server.
I honestly feel a bit bad for the opponents in this video, lol. Some of them looked like they were LITERALLY doing nothing at all, except maybe moving around.
If anyone saw someone they knew get beat in this video, they will never hear the end of it, hahaha.
I am really proud of DH this week I think we did pretty well for fighting an enemy twice our size and before you jump in and say IOJ or NSP doesnt have the numbers like DH remember we had both of you hitting us thats 2 servers all the time not to mention IOJ and their night crew. Im really hoping one of your servers get stuck with us this coming reset we saw how things went tue/wed when you didnt have the other server to watch your back.
I agree, I think DH has done pretty well all things considered.
It seems we also have a lot of new players, so hopefully this doesnt scare them away, lol.
Overall, Im not surprised with the outcome of the match at all. Though, I expected DH to do worse than we actually did, so pretty happy with it overall!
As far as getting in another match with one of the servers, theyll just make an alliance again! Regardless, I hope some of our less experienced commanders use this as an opportunity to learn. We have some great commanders, but some rely too much on numbers. In a match like this, we cant do that, so I am hoping we see some innovation in the upcoming weeks.
edit: I cant say I minded RARELY having a queue though. EB is usually the only place we will get one anyway, but I cant say I didnt enjoy being able to get right in 75% of the time, or even just a 30 sec wait when there was a queue. It was to an “ugly” map, lol, but it has its perks!

My WvW experience as of late;
IM BLIND!!! IM BLIND!!! WHATTA WORLD!!!
Ooh, I can get an attack off now.. wait a second..
Not Again!
IM BLIND!!! IM BLIND!!! WHATTA WORLD!!!
rinse and repeat for victory
Lag is an ever present problem in pretty much every online game, especially ones with a lot of players.
The cause is usually a combination of factors, but it can be anything from your PC, to your ISP, to the games servers.
The lag in this game, specifically, seems to have gotten worse over time for me. When it was released, I was able to play it on the highest settings with minimal issues. At this point, I have to play it at the lowest settings and still experience massive amounts of lag.
You can minimize things on your end by making sure nothing else is running in the background of your PC (like other programs, web browser, etc) and also do speed tests/ping plots of your internet service to see if there are issues there. Beyond that, there isnt much you can do. I am sure others will have some additional ideas.
Good luck!
ROFL
Anyone else reminded of elementary school reading these posts? Are you going to tell your mom on us too? Rather than jump to conclusions you might ask questions first. There might be a logical reason that some people were in the IOJ borderlands. But that’s too hard and if your assumptions were wrong it might deflate your ego right? Get over it already….
Imma just sit back and watch, and I am probably safe in assuming many on DH are enjoying it just as much as I am!
Hey, IoJ.. NSP told me you guys suck, and even if they only had rangers, they would still beat you!
Hey, NSP… IoJ told me you all fight like 3 year olds, except the youngins pack more of a punch.
grabs popcorn
All according to plan… mwahahahaha.
I have totally done that. A lot of times I scout and run havoc in wvw. Sometimes we get these pesky perma stealth thieves who contest doors to prevent people from waypointing (has this been patched???). So I’d do just that: lay a stealth trap, stand by a mining node or something near the door (back facing out >:) hehe) and then…you wait. Like a true hunter, I trap my prey this way. They are so weak without access to stealth.
Ok, so you get it, lol.
“I am just a poor, poor lost Asuran ranger. Where am I? Where is my pet? Im scared!! Facing my back to you, thief, will show you I am just harmless, right?”
Mwahahahahaha!
Of course, they just run when they start losing, but that doesnt take away from the fun for me, lol. And, it sure makes it harder for them to do without stealth!
After messing around with a few new builds, I have actually ended up enjoying this last patch. I know many dont agree, but I would be lying if I said otherwise. Changes like adding pull to path of scars is fantastic!
That said, I feel SB is gutted, and at 900 range I see no reason to use it over Axe, which will also allow for the use of a second sigil for the offhand.
It amazes me people haven’t found this combo until now….
This is actually the only way I used Guard until this last patch (now shouts can do some other things). Then again, trolling thieves has become a game in and of itself for me. I am one of “those people” who will use a stealth trap and then lie in wait for a thief to hit it, lol.
The entertainment value is extensive.
Though, I dont really do JP’s, so hadnt really thought of using it in there, I guess.
Just to be clear on why I even posted my WIP build…
This thread is one of the few that seems “realistic,” in thakittens not the end of the world, but its also not the best patch for rangers.
The WIP build is, very very obviously, not a bunker build (for me, bunker builds are terribly boring). But, I think that this is all just the start of an evolving chain. We are going to start to see new builds that are effective, and while its sad that the SB and pets had to take such a hit in the progress, it is exciting in its own way.
Bunker builds are still out there, more glassy builds are still out there, and everything in between is still out there just waiting for us to find them.
Jaxxx, I like your approach to this “event.”
I have a completely different build, using lb and axe/axe. One thing we have in common is the group support though. I also use pets that compliment this, and are very, very rarely used in actual combat (red moa and siamoth).
Overall, I have found it to be even more enjoyable than my previous build. Although, I do feel that SB is a bit gutted at this point. I am completely in love with the new path of scars though. It starts to go a bit more towards a feasible “combo” system, kind of like the ele has.
I cant say I agree with some of the changes made, but overall, I am having more fun on my ranger than I ever have and I cant deny it. Once I actually start to refine it a bit more, I think it will only increase my enjoyment in the game.
I havent even touched my support guard I am levelling.
edit: here is the build I am using. Lots of little fixes that will happen, and the site isnt updated with the new patch yet, but I think all the trait numbers are correct. Also note that all the gear was for my old build, and while it works decently enough, I will undoubtedly change it around once I get the gold. As I solely play wvw, that will be a LOOOOONG time :P
I know its not perfect, but it compliments me very well, and thats whakittens all about, imo.
(edited by Tuluum.9638)
I just wanted to relay my experience in WvW from last night.
I quickly discarded the SB in favor of the axe. At the range, I just feel it is an outright superior option with better traits to back it up.
However, after using the slightly improved LB, and an axe/axe build, I found myself really enjoying it.
I loved the “feel” of the SB, so its disappointing that they did not include a range trait to compensate for the loss.
However, with the improvements on LB and axe/axe, I actually feel like it is a stronger build overall. And heck, with offhand training, you can throw an axe further than you can shoot an arrow! The new pull on path of scars is absolutely fantastic and I found myself enjoying the fight more than I had for quite a while. I also used “support” pets so that the nerf to their damage wasnt even relevant.
So, for my fellow rangers, I can only suggest trying out some new builds. The SB just isnt what it was, and it feels outclassed by the axe, but when I just accepted it and adapted, I found a playstyle that might fit me even better than with the SB.
YMMV
Oh thieves…
Basically, the best way to fight a thief is to either become one yourself (reroll) or run away. You are able to watch if a chain attack progresses, and also note damage in the combat log, but thats not actually a feasible solution. There are much more attacks that require a target than many thieves would like to admit, as well. Yes, you can fire a ranger SB without a target, but actually hitting something that isnt stealthed is difficult enough. Doing so with an invisible target is a waste of time, without a doubt.
You will not beat even a mildly competent thief unless they make a mistake. I have seen people say this rings true for every class, but that is far from the case. The risk a thief takes jumping into a fight, any fight, is very low.
If a thief player feels their class is weak, or anything like that, I would suggest they practice more until they understand the actual capabilities of the class better. If they feel that someone who has access to high amounts of stealth will be useless in the damage department, I think exploring builds would prove to be quite an educational experience. And lastly, if a player feels that a thief is useless in group engagements, there is probably an enormous amount to learn about the game for that player.
I think the core issue is just that turning invisible requires no skill whatsoever and it also negates high levels of skill from the opposing player, especially with some of the weaponsets.
If a player like me (a bit above average) is able to absolutely dominate on a class, it says something.
My biggest issue is that both playing against and playing with the current stealth mechanics is both boring (easy) and extremely powerful. I really think that anet could come up with a solution that doesnt necessarily negate the power, but makes it more challenging to be able to pull off. I have said it before, but I would level a thief again if they did something like that.
As it stands, I deleted my thief, and just run from them in pretty much any engagement because its a waste of time and not fun, regardless of if I win or lose.
Tried out the new ranger build, and I have to say… I kind of like it!
Longbow is easier to use, it just feels better, and overall was pretty effective.
And yes, the whole "Please dont take supplies from "x"" gets a bit old after a while. Especially when its actively being trebbed. I know they think they are doing “good,” but.. no less frustrating, lol.
Good night all ’round
Sidebar: As for the DH stuff, I was honestly under the impression that you guys just got bored and stopped playing WvW (no troll). Last week was the same old DH Domination mode IoJ is so used to. Just figured you guys were taking a break this week to be honest.
That thought ran across my mind too (I am on DH).
But it seems some of the people who have been logging in consistently are saying otherwise in this thread, so Im not really sure. I figure they would know better than I do!
Since the Shortbow will also apply poison, cripple, swiftness and evasion, it doesn’t take 5 braincells to spam every skill off CD, and simply walk backwards.
On the flip side, it doesnt take 5 braincells to counter that “strategy”…
Its more than me being accused of hacking I have countless /w from DH accusing my entire guild of hacking simply because DH has a lot of players with no idea of how the game mechanics work. That was a nice way of saying they are bad.
Or, you know, new to the game. And, to be fair, hacking isnt exactly unheard of in online games.
I have been accused of hacking by both NSP and IoJ. Each and every time its either because of hide in plain sight, or the siamoth stealth.
Keep on keepin on with yo bad self though ;P
Posting a video of a few days ago as I am sick of people /w me to call me a hacker kittenhead etc. becasue they cant kill me.
The term “hacker” gets thrown around as much as the word “troll.”
I wouldnt let it get to you.. The amount of times I have been accused of hacking because of the rangers “Hide in Plain Sight” trait is the source of endless entertainment for me.
And yes, I also tried to get him to post someone in Bay before that, but alas, didn’t happen.
I just figured it was because I wasnt logging in quite as much, but I have noticed a lot of commanders that dont seem to do all that well recently.
Didnt see many of the names I usually recognize.
Is this for real? The reason I ask is all of the other stats are way lower than what I have and I only have 20k kills. Not a photoshop or something?
Its amazing what one can do on very well populated servers, with a very well organized group of people.
Grats on the title, but be careful going out into real light. Its gonna burn at first! :P
I assume they nerfed SB to make LB more “viable.” Is this logical? It depends on what version of “reality” you subscribe to, I suppose.
As for ranger SB being “OP”… I truly dont know what to say to that.
What it looks like to me is that Anet has balanced each class internally with little to no consideration for what they are doing to other classes. Meaning, if the ranger was the only class in the game, it would indeed make LB more viable. As far as I know though, there actually are other classes in the game :P It makes me wonder if they had different teams working on each class, with limited communication between them.
I guess it does bring it in line with thief SB, but I feel those weapon skills are superior to ranger to begin with. Even with the extra range, I still felt thief SB was stronger.
Im not a fan of how they are making balance changes. It seems like to bring a single build “back in line,” they nerf the entire class. And that goes for every class in the game.
That said, adapt or die truly is the name of the game with an MMO. I have been playing an axe/axe build that I have ended up enjoying quite a bit. Overall, I enjoyed the SB paired with the GS a GREAT amount though, so I cant say I enjoy it as much.
In the end, I have found myself playing other games more recently. It isnt entirely due to this patch, but the patch certainly doesnt help.
(edited by Tuluum.9638)
It doesn’t matter if there’s an alliance, it doesn’t matter if DH has lower numbers than usual. We’re losing. Excuses are a disservice to all involved. Casting blame is the way of the scrub, and leads to complacency. Roll with it, LEARN from it, and improve. Anyone who thinks DH is on a level to compete with AR or SBI when we still have performances like this is poisoning the well.
“I’m bored with this matchup” doesn’t cut it. Excellence is a habit, not an outcome.
Thats great.
No blame being casted here though. I didnt even know we were losing until I checked millenium earlier today. Not bored with the match up either. Nor am I making excuses, or “not learning” from whatever current situation I was not even aware of in the first place.
Perhaps you were directing this post towards an individual, if so, I think it works better when that person is addressed with specificity.
I have been waiting for the new patch, and spending lots of time with the “leaked” notes on my different characters. I went off the assumption they were correct, and it turned out ok! Just want to get the next couple alts to 80. After having several, it seems to get SOO MUCH LONGER for each subsequent character, lol.
Its nice to see that the alliance is actually being carried out though. Such a thing is notoriously difficult to maintain, itll be interesting to see if it can continue throughout the entire match.
Thinking DH just doesn’t care for WvW this week.
Not once when I’ve joined have I had to sit in a line even during peak hours. Guessing maybe more folks are busy finishing Dragon Bash as well as the Skypirates now.
Thats pretty much where I am sitting. Havent gone into WvW at all this match (edit: actually, I might have at reset, not that it really matters, haha).
Ive just been leveling some alts and theorizing up some builds in anticipation of the patch. Its been fun, and now its time to try them out!
Obviously, doesnt speak for the entirety of DH, but I have just been leveling my support guard and hammer warrior. Got too impatient to do it solely through WvW.
Anet`s silence on this makes think they are real and intentionally “leaked” … purely my opinion though.
It really wouldnt be that bad of a move on their part, honestly.
These are obviously some pretty big changes, and if they unofficially leak it, they get a free opportunity to gauge players reactions without actually committing to anything.
Just to clarify some things on bows…
Longbow does not refer to range, necessarily. It refers to the length of the bow itself.
A composite “shortbow” may very well have the range of a simple bow.
While “Longbow” may be a classification in some systems, “Shortbow” is not even really a recognized term (in actual archery). It usually refers to a bow that is shorter in length to a straight long bow, because it uses a recurve or reflex frame that compacts the size of the longbow into a shorter frame. They also tend to use a composite of different materials.
The use of these tended to be dependent on their cultural context, but the draw weight and effective range was competitive between all of the different technologies (if maximum range is the intended goal). It is the draw weight that directly dictates how much force will be behind the arrow, and the arrow itself will dictate flight patterns.
So, basically, a longbow just tends to be a straight piece of wood, where as other bows tend to use different shapes (even beyond just recurve and reflex) and various materials to achieve the same goal. It is more up to the draw weight and arrow design as to the range of the weapon, and these can be achieved using many different designs that will all max out what a human archer could actually use.
There are limits, obviously.. like, a five inch tall bow wont have the range of a three foot bow. But, I think thats just common sense.
Yes, I know its a video game, and it doesnt really matter. Its just a “The More You Know…” type of moment.
Either way, so my post isnt deleted.. I think the thief shortbow is significantly stronger than the ranger variant at this point. The range made them similar before, but now, it seems to be inferior.
That said, SO MANY balance changes are happening, that the actual picture of the game is difficult to imagine without having played it for a while.

Wait, we’re having a cuddle party now?! First I miss fight night, now this?
You are always welcome to the cuddle puddle, z. Now and forever.
06-04-13
Never forget.
Never. Ever. Forget.
And no, I was not feeling you up. It was a pickpocketing. Being a norn however, its like trying to pet an ant with a hammer.
serious note That is one of my favorite wvw memories, and will remain that way.
We have those wild nights where we go at each other with knives and throw lamps at each other while hiding behind the couch. Other night we cuddle together and watch chaos brew. Things are never boring with DH around
YOU threw that lamp?! That thing came out of nowhere. Cheap shot mister, cheap shot. Especially going after the biggest target. You just had to go there, didnt you? That thing freaking HURT!
Wanna cuddle?
:D
LOL at double team comments
You must be new to the game. Welcome to WvW!!
I enjoyed the match all around. NSP puts up some great tactics (though mainly from Os) and IoJ is DH’s BFF. Violent relationship, true, but what can ya do when its the nature of the beast?
After reading one post by player x filled with his poisonous hatred for some aspect of the game, or read one post by player y with his passionate defense of the game
The entirety of the interwebz summed up so succinctly! Just change around the video game specific terms like player and game, and you got it down.
Well done, you win!
Ranger in PVP are OP, we all know that.
Are you saying that every ranger is OP, regardless of build? Or are you referring to certain builds? Or do you know?
Beyond rangers though, I think there needs to be a split amongst the game modes for balancing. I am aware this would require more work in some ways, but I think in other ways, it would really alleviate a lot of issues.
there is pretty much nothing that can satisfy this community.
This is true of any group of humans, anywhere.
If people havent realized this yet, they are in for some rude awakenings in life.
@Osif;
I wasnt talking about “running away” or even overall map mobility.
I am talking about in-combat mobility. And yes, if you do not feel mobile in-combat on a mesmer, there is probably quite a bit you still have to learn.
I am talking about an actual fight here, not just one person running away, or the other running away.
And yes, I am quite serious when I say I am waiting to see it in action before I make any final statements on it.
@Miflett;
I have been thinking along those lines for quite a while too.
Maybe its just because the whole S/TPvP thing just seems SO generic to me.. but I think that Anet has an amazing foundation to build on in GW2. It seems they are more interested in building staircases to nowhere though. Maybe its to confuse the ghosts (if anyone gets that reference ).
But yeah, as far as I know, rangers are not getting access to this condition. The classes that are getting access to a condition that hinders mobility are the ones that never had an issue with it in the first place.
I can see torment being a serious counter tactic to the evades a ranger has though.
Torment should have been a condition for the slower classes, so the more mobile can’t kite. Not for thieves and mesmers that are already a PITAto catch.
I honestly thought this was so obvious.
So much so, that without too deep of an inspection, I just assumed this was the case. It doesnt really make any sense, whatsoever, to me.
Thieves and mesmers dont really need help in running circles around their opponent, they already do it very, very well (even if they arent as OP as some make them out to be).
Like others have said though, maybe we just need to see it in play to make a real judgment of it. As it stands though, it just sounds bonkers to me.
I do believe this is the one place on the internet where you could post pictures of fuzzy kittens being happy; and they’d complain that they prefer puppies instead.
Some people just want to see the world burn
No, thats pretty much the internet in its entirety. Only reason why its less obvious “IRL” is that there isnt as much anonymity. But, check out what happens once people get even a minor taste of it (say, when driving a car).
Just to be blunt, this forum is one of the better ones out there.
This is something that is present in every single MMO forum out there, and the behavior itself is present in every forum out there period (just a different focus).
Change people, and the forum will change. Aint gonna happen! lol.
Just enjoy it for what it is, honestly. There are still great discussions to be had, and an enormous amount to learn. I would say getting jaded is the first step to recovery :P
I think applying diminishing returns to RNG would be appropriate. There are quite a few ways to do this. Technically with RNG, someone could play this game for 10k hours, and never receive something better than a masterwork piece of gear.
People say that it “averages” out over time, but then it wouldnt necessarily be a true RNG (which cant be contained in an algorithm or equation anyway, but thats OT). So, most games use a modification of an RNG roll, and not a true RNG generator (which is a good thing). The issue is that it can still royally screw some people over! I think advancing the equations that are used for loot tables would be a huge step forward, and if made proprietary, is even something that Anet could sell to other developers if it is truly novel and innovative. Ive said that before though, lol. In the end, I expect absolutely nothing to change.
As someone who loves science, “this is the way its always been” has never sounded like a good reason to keep things that way.
While I wouldn’t mind such a thing, it will still be nice to know SOMETHING is out there with the ability to detriment very mobile classes.
I agree, when I first heard of torment, I thought it was to counter act the mobility of some classes/builds.
However, and maybe I dont understand it correctly, it was actually given TO the most mobile classes.
I just hope I am wrong about it, because in principle it actually sounds like a neat condition. However, the execution is what really matters and I suppose we wont see that until its actually in game.
TU is absolutely fantastic in a ton of situations, especially roaming.
I would go so far as to say that it is better than HS if you dont have someone to blast finish in it. It does have the ability to pulse vigor and remove conditions, but for those situations, I actually find the trait Hide in Plain Sight is more effective.
Perhaps the trade off for torment will be less access to stealth … in which case few people will have a problem with this. However, if thieves can maintain their current level of access to stealth AND gain this mechanic – the forums will explode. LOL
I sincerely doubt this will be accompanied by a change to stealth.
I would love to be wrong on that, however.
I am going to reserve judgment on this until I see it in action.
That said, I have some pretty extreme reservations about this actually addressing any issue. I see the strong possibility this will only exacerbate current problems. But, we will have to wait to see how it is implemented.
What a fun night!
And, SOMEONE DROPPED A BLACK LION CHEST KEY!!
For realz! I feel like the luckiest guy alive. Shockingly shocking.
I will never auto attack now.
If this wasnt a thing before, we should totally make it one
Mwahahahaha!
Yeah it’s true that sometimes players miss you. I mean i remember a time i killed several people from the other zerg that were a bit away from it STANDING NEAR THEM !
Yes, especially when using the stealth from siamoth.
Pretty sure a thief group would hurt more though…all hitting the same target then disappearing and coming back to kill someone else.
I have no doubt that a full group of anything would hurt more than a single ranger with a possible guardian “sidekick.”
That said, Mightly Blow + Healing Spring is one of the best defensive foundations in the game, imo. MB has two blast finishers, and healing spring stays down quite a while.
The other advantage is that if killed, it is just one to two players out and not an entire group. It is basically used to either draw fire (which means your team now has essentially open access) or deal damage that cant be ignored.
If they ignore it, people are going to get downed. If they dont and focus fire, you are only losing a maximum of two players from your force. Usually only the ranger though.
Its just one strategy amongst many. When you start to claim one as “the best,” you might find yourself too limited against opponents who can quickly change strategy. Always good to play with a full deck of cards.
Yes I believe I understand you point, but correct me if you feel I don’t.
Perception aside, we have two different approaches:
1. This caracteristic of yours is inferior to mine, this caracteristic defines you as a person, so your person is inferior to mine on the whole.
2. This specific caracteristic of yours is inferior to mine, this caracteristic does not define you as a person, so you are not inferior to me as a person but we are different.
Ill just start off with saying that I am kind of struggling to understand what you are saying throughout this post and also mention that I only speak for myself.
The words of elitists tend to come off as a judgment based on faulty superiority. This does not directly imply that anyone can, will, or should actually feel inferior because of them. When a racist says to me "Because you are “x” race, you are obviously inferior," do I actually feel inferior? Not a chance, but does the racist imply directly or indirectly that they perceive me as inferior? Most definitely! But, to them, the inferiority is just a given. How many racists will actually say that they are wrong because of their racism?
(Chair can have two different sizes, yet they are equal in utility: one suits adults and the other fits to children for example)
See though, its about an overall theme. Even here, you compare one set of characteristics with a child, and the other to an adult. I understand you might not have intended it, but when everything else is taken into account, this is what rubs people the wrong way.
Anyway we can all agree that human beings have differences. Stating one of these differences does not necessarilly contradict the idea that all humans are equal. But it could be interpreted as such, I agree.
Exactly, and when it is strongly insinuated by the very definition of “elitism” that there is an inherent superiority, therein lies the problem.
The question is who is to blame: the person making the statement (ignoring the potential imterpretations) or the person interpreting the statement?
I see no moral reason why anyone should change their statements based on potential interpretations.
I can understand why would someone rush into interpretations, it is a defence mechanism, but is it right?
Both involved parties are responsible, imo. For me, I realized that regardless of my own opinions on the matter, the way I approached the topic was being perceived negatively by others. Some were even struggling with self-esteem issues, etc. Is it “my problem?” No, not really. But, if I am faced with a choice to either act in a way that makes me feel good while making another feel bad, or act in a way that enables and encourages both of us.. It is a no-brainer. It wont apply to everyone, perhaps even including yourself. But, my words were making some others feel bad, and just outright kitten ed some others off, and every reaction in between. I figured I could wait until every one didnt take things so personally, or make a minor change in my own approach. I chose the latter due to feasibility. In the end, I do feel it was the right choice, and I have ended up learning more from a stance of humility than I ever did when acting from a stance of superiority.
From a skill standpoint, I am not where I used to be due to medical issues. But, I still seek challenge. It is what I search out above all else. I am not interested in making myself look like a great player, or being perceived that way. I found that when approaching it from humility, my entire playstyle and goals changed and I ended up being significantly more satisfied than I ever was when I was attempting to flaunt my accomplishments to anyone who could see/hear/read/etc.
YMMV
@Fenrir and which place in Your fight do You have?
about that flanking 80 men blob… I could be done – just more ramgers are needed
Exactly.
I mean, going up against an 80 person zerg solo is “a little tricky” on any class. Though, I also tend to hide a lot, using both the environment and occassionally the siamoth (usually just long enough to confirm that it is, indeed, just as awkward to use as ever, lol).
Truly though, if you use the environment well, most of the players will be extremely focused on my own teams zerg and usually miss my ranger. I basically play guerilla tactics though, and its not like I try to facetank the zerg alone!
I dont really understand why this doesnt exist, honestly.
An obvious +1 from me.
I think rising brings up an interesting point..
As far as I have seen, it just uses standard rounding for display purposes, but has it ever been clarified which one the combat engine uses for calculation?
The difference would obviously be rather insignificant (within .5% at most), so it would be rather difficult to parse it out to tell (to say the least). Still would be interested to find out!
I play in much the same way. I have found how to create my own fun in games, since at a certain point of having played a significant number of them, I started to become jaded.
I mostly WvW though, and at this point I dont really like levelling up.
My favorite parts of most any MMO are theorycrafting, finding “odd stuff,” and just trying to improve my own gameplay at every opportunity. I even record my play just to improve. Never have the intention of sharing the vids, but its a great tool for seeing things that are so incredibly easy to miss in the heat of battle.
Some of my favorite moments are when your playstyle just “clicks” with another random player. You may never see them again, but for the time, its just a really cool experience in my opinion.
A very interesting idea indeed. Personally, Trebs + ACs (TrACs) FTW. Lol. I do agree though, more freedom would be nice but I think there needs to be some limiting factors in place. I think if we kept ever expanding the dynamic with useful or situation siege you’d reach a nice spot. You just have to be careful it doesn’t become Siege Wars 2. Siege is a useful tool but I feel it shouldn’t be anything more than that. Too much of it and players become supply caravans themselves instead of people with an identity.
I agree, which is why I think a test server would be almost imperative. Heck, I think its imperative even now, lol.
Honestly though, I already feel WvW is “Siege Wars 2.” All you have to do is find a spot where there is a chokepoint, slam down some siege, have some guardians and.. bam! impenetrable (if defended intelligently).
RTS games have one player with one mind and if it becomes too heavily about building your own towers I foresee a lot of problems with resource hoarding. It suddenly becomes more important to gather supply (or another form of it) that teams can build structures just below the “captureable” line and reap points from them while camping out resources so others can’t even get started. I think having pre-made towers gives an objective for players who would otherwise ignore them for straight PvP or SvP (Siege v Player). Much how they killed GvG in GW when they removed the Guild thief and eventually VoD. It suddenly didn’t matter about ganking NPCs, being sneaky with the thief, etc. It got to the point where you had 25min matches of guilds beating on one another by the flag.
Well, not all RTS have just one player in mind There are many that have teams against teams, one vs many, etc.
Like we have now, I think it would be prudent to have a cap of structures that one can build on the field. Dealing with exploits is going to be present regardless of anything that is done, so it is good to try to limit it. At the same time, it will ALWAYS happen, so its also important to address it continually.
I actually think that it would mainly just shape things a bit differently on reset and the next couple days. Once things are established, then it would play out just as it does now. And right now, we already are mostly playing supply mules at reset.
Basically, it would be like adding in a WvW specific crafting variant. Where we could use all of the materials to build the world around us. Obviously, it would take testing and all the normal procedures.
To be blunt though, I feel its a bit like peein in the wind, lol. Anet has their vision, and I dont think that the communities views will influence it much. Its still fun to talk about. And thank you for actually having a conversation. Since its the internet though, I feel compelled to insult you in some way… hmm… Your posts smell like cabbage!
