If you guy’s truly wanna know why JQ gave up a 17k lead here it is. JQ as a whole has gotten bored of the repetitive wvw match up that we have now since the match up hasn’t changed much in a long time. (Guest in JQ la and ask this is the answer that you will get) Overall JQ is tired of wvw after weekend hype and a large lead and says lets go do something else that we havn’t been doing for months on end. JQ will continue to slack off until something new is added to wvw but until then have fun bg with first then maybe you guys will feel the same after a bit too.

The timing of this server-wide decision is impeccable.

Opinions on upcoming rtl change

Obviously u are the ignorant idiot, the change effects our general mobility much more than the ability to disengage, we get the 40s CD when we roam but while we fight we simply wont use rtl and save it for the disengage. So all this brings us is a severe nerf to our mobility.

It’s only on a 40 second CD if you miss your target or don’t have a target, otherwise it’s the exact same CD as it is right now, so not sure why you would only use it for disengage….

You’ll just have to make sure and actually time it so that you can help guarantee it hits as opposed to spamming it.

Short story :At disenganging nerf is justified.
At general mobility and roaming its too much and hurts TOO much.
Rtl at 40 sec is nothing more than a 10 sec cooldown leap WITH ONLY 300 RANGE.
And thats the only thing s/d with arcanes gets to move around ..plus poor uptime of swiftness in the build with signet heal.
Thats all im whining for.Not disengaging.Roaming and general movement.
Perhaps if they made it that rtl has 15 or 20 sec cooldown when you use it OUT OF COMBAT????

Why should Eles have stellar roaming capabilities? Engi’s, Guards, Necros, and I would say even Mesmers all have really poor mobility, and I just don’t see why the best all-around class in the game should have more mobility than them.

I think this is a case of all the spoiled Eles in denial.

With that said, I would much rather have seen a nerf to Eles overall sustainability as opposed to their mobility, but I also don’t know what all is going to be changed in the next update.

Frankly these posts are quite annoying now. I am done pointing out to people the weaknesses and strengths of an Ele to the bads, so I will now only say this… QQ moar

Frankly, I’m tired of every patch doing nothing to balance a class that it easily the strongest pvp class in the game. People have been complaining about Eles for a very long time, and ANet still seems to think the class does not need anything done to fix what everyone is complaining about.

I normally don’t start threads like this, but it’s just so frustrating getting destroyed by someone because I’m just outclassed, and absolutely nothing is being done to resolve the issue.

They won’t be balancing them instead ways to deal with them better will be put into the game so basically you will be forced to run a class/build just to deal with op ele specs. Got to love Build Bores 2 the game that said you could play how you like and be competitive and totally lied.

I don’t know if they ever said “you can play how you like and be competitive” but if they did say that and you believed it…. yea… that’s something else entirely.

Build Wars was always going to happen, bunkers are killed by conditions build, conditions are countered by cleansing builds, cleansing is countered by constant reapplication builds, burst builds kill anyone remotely squishy and bunkers counter burst builds.

Complaining about Build Wars is like complaining that the sun comes up in the morning. It’s in pretty much every game.

And Eles counter everything…

How far back do the leaderboards go when calculating your rating/ranking? As in, I’ve been playing since release, so i have over 500 tourney matches. Does it count all of those games? or just the ones I’ve done since the leaderboards were released?

Also, is the rating/ranking account bound? or character bound?

If you want to talk about the strategical/tactical importance of trebs, then adding a timer would make it much more important to actually defend the treb. Teams may actually make it a priority to not leave their trebber alone.

The strategy right now is, 1 person at treb. When its destroyed, repair it. Rinse and repeat.

It’s not that difficult to do the bounties to obtain merits. In fact, you only have 15 mins to complete them each time you do them, so it really cant be too much to ask (no matter how much you are against pve) to just do one once a week.

Doing the bounties is just as much PvE as killing a tower/keep lord.

Can you please put a spawn timer on the treb repair kit? It’s ridiculous to have to put so much effort into killing the enemy treb only to have it repaired 15 seconds later.

Make the repair kit spawn 45 – 60 seconds after the treb is destroyed.

I like the helmet, I like the gauntlets. Everything else is kinda meh.

To me it just seems like a bunch of miss-matched parts. There’s no theme or coordination between the pieces. Would be nice to see a lot more bark-like textures as opposed to leaves, but that’s just my opinion.

I really hope this is just a hiccup for blackgate, their core players are great and have some of the most skilled players, if blackgate do infact implode it will just be two powerhouses unless all of Bg’s bandwagoners bandwagon somewhere else i’m sure the core will stay.

BG would far much better if it didn’t do things in spurts and heaves and just did what JQ does, not treat WvW like if we don’t get first the whole world will explode. That lead BG took this weekend was because JQ was all off experiencing this unique concept called “fun” in the form of 8bit stuffs. We saw that tick and said “bless their little hearts” and went back to smacking things with our pointy sticks and came back the next day/day after with a refreshing break from the same wvw content BG had been staring at without much of any break at all and continued to have more “fun.”

EDIT: SF does regularly bless peoples hearts and sometimes little hearts in mumble. We are all members of the Church of the Silly Flippers and welcome all into its fold who seek the blessing of their hearts.

JQ can take WvW less seriously because they have a never-ending WvW population. They can take breaks and others will fill in their spots while they are gone.

BG has a relatively low population, so when we decide to take a break we have virtually no presence on any of the WvW maps.

I personally prefer Signet of Resolve, but I don’t run points in Valor, so no might stacks on block for me.

Also, the last 5 points in Zeal is completely useless. Zealous Blade is so weak. If you want to leave as many traits in Zeal as you can, I would suggest only going 25 points max, and putting the last 5 points in Virtues. The added boons on Virtues is something I always get, no matter what build I’m using

Would it be possible to make it so that the T3 medium gloves (or all gloves for that matter) show up over long-sleeve chest-pieces?

I love the t2 medium armor, but i want to get the t3 shoulders and gloves. The long sleeves on on the T2 chest-piece cover up the awesome gloves though.

I know its probably not a change that would (or should) be placed at the top of the priority list, but I would imagine it’s not to difficult to change.

Let’s not get out of control with the suggestion to make it permanent. I know most people in this subforum are going to be dedicated PvPers, but keep in mind that all those “extra” folks you’re talking about are not. I know I have friends who would be very, very, very upset at the idea of being forced to PvP for what are largely PvE rewards (ascended items).

Yes, encouraging PvP is good, but no one should feel like they HAVE to do it….

If they made this “bug” an actual part of the game you would not be “forced” to do anything. You can still gain laurels from doing pve dailies and the pve monthly, so you will still have access to everything that those who participate in pvp would have access to. It will take you longer to get those things, but that’s the price you will have to pay for avoiding a certain aspect of the game.

I, for instance, will not be getting my pve monthly completed because I don’t have any crafting on any of my characters. I do every pve daily when I log in and I’ve done every pve monthly since I started playing, but I don’t want to craft. I still have other sources of gaining laurels, so I am not forced to complete the pve monthly to get them.

It’s the exact same thing with pvp.

With that said, the pve and pvp laurel rewards should be equal. I think both dailies should give 1 laurel every day upon completion because pvpers have no need for laurels, and pvers have no reward for participating in pvp if they can get the reward already for doing what they prefer to do; pve. I also think raising the prices on some of the laurel rewards would be a very good idea, so that you cannot obtain the highest rewards after only a few days of dailies and monthlies.

I don’t mind it being so small. What wrong with it is it’s inconsistency. You can still take loads of damage while standing inside the bubble (AoEs, non-projectile ranged attacks, greatswords, stability, etc.)

Once you get to lvl 60 where u have access to Monk’s Focus and Altruistic Healing in the Valor trait line you will notice a huge increase in your survivability. Until then it can be a little rough sometimes.

I’ve heard the culture armor for Sylvari has a glow effect. Is that just for T3? Or do you have to have a complete matching set? I have a mix of T1 and T2 and I don’t notice the glow effect.

If you have a guild with members on two different servers, does the Influence earned by all of the members contribute to the guild?

I ask because we just started recruiting on a different server to try to build our population, but the players on the separate server see a different number for the total influence the guild has accumulated.

Bonded by Fate [FATE] is looking to merge with another similarly sized guild on the server Blackgate.

With the release of the the new Guild Missions it has become apparent to us that we will not be able to accrue the needed influence in a timely manner to unlock even the first mission.

Rather than completely abandoning our identity and disappearing into the ranks of the already established, much larger guilds, we are looking to possibly find another guild of similar size and combine our numbers to see if we can increase our Influence to unlock these Guild Missions. I would also like to say that posts like this, even though they can provide interesting ideas and nice feedback, are almost always ignored by ANet. It requires a tremendous uproar from the players to get ANet to even consider a proposed change, and even then you are more likely to see a change to something completely unrelated to what was being requested.

I just read the first page, and so far the majority of the things you are asking for are not needed and would make the Guardian profession just too strong.

Hammer is a very powerful weapon right now. The conal immobilize you are suggesting is just way too OP. Ring of Warding is almost perfect how it is. Only issue I have with it is the ease of which people can get out of / through it.
EDIT – Didn’t notice the suggested range reduction with your change to Zealot’s Embrace. I think if you lowered the range even further than 600 – almost melee range – it wouldn’t bee too strong, but I still don’t think the change is necessary

Sword has many ranged projectiles, so why shouldn’t people be able to reflect them back to us as they would with any other ranged projectile. Flashing Blade would be nice to use without a target, but I do like how pro I feel when I use it to escape by targeting a mob far away. I do think it’s damage should be significantly increased though.

If you gave shield a block – especially a timed duration block – there would be absolutely no reason to use the focus. The shield already provides passive defense just by equipping it, and can be traited to provide passive toughness as well. Allowing it to do the same – or better based on your suggestion – as focus would make the latter obsolete.

Your torch suggestions are kinda hard to follow. I think it’s pretty balanced as is, though Zealot’s Flame active is kinda unreliable.

Scepter is the only weapon that needs some significant changes

Definitely a case of “Search the forums/learn to play” I`m afraid.

Immobilize them, they won`t go anywhere.
If you`ve already used your Immobilize skill, then that isn`t the Elementalists fault, but don`t worry, too many QQers kittening about RTL got that whack-a-mole nerfed so no doubt Anet will do the same with Vapor Form.

P.S. This skill is only of use at a keep & is a complete waste of time anywhere else.
Ele` downed, casts Vapor Form, enemy mob/player just roleplay walks along side it & starts the downed action again. Dead Ele`.

What`s that you say? Ele` Vapor Form`d off of a cliff & into water whilst you stayed to fight the others.
Chase him, kill him, laugh at your free loot!

The mist form allows for the downed ele to:

  • retreat closer to allies for a rez
  • stall for time so allies can come to rez
  • stall for time so they can rally off a defeated enemy
  • retreat into a tower/keep for a free self-rez. And I’m not sure about this but I think mist form allow for eles to fall from heights that would normally kill anyone else.

Compared to all other downed states mist form has no counter or way to prevent the stalling for time. The majority of downed states can be ignored via stability, and a good player can use a shadow-step ability to spike a teleporting Thief.

In other words, eles have the only downed state that makes them 100% unkillable for a few seconds.

And if you’re talking about 1v1s, all downed states are useless other than for possibly stalling for time….unless you’re an ele around a tower or keep….

T3 Heavy Helmet Clipping Bad!

I gave my Asura huge chicken ears, and the top rim of the ears clip through the ear flaps on the heavy helmet so dolphin bad. It’s like really bad. Like I’m contemplating hiding my helmet even though it’s the best looking helmet in the game.

Forced to play with a Greatsword

I assume this is concerning PvE primarily

If you want to do AoE damage then GS is definitely the way to go for the exact same reasons you mentioned. The GS also does as much damage to 5 targets and you can do to 1 target with most other weapons, so it is just the superior weapon as far as damage output is concerned.

Hammer can also be decent, but still lacking the control that the GS can provide.

The Shortsword isn’t useless though. Against single targets (i.e. dungeon bosses) you can dish out comparable damage to the GS, and the fast attacks makes foods like Omnom Pies very powerful (assuming u have decent to high crit chance).

The shield is probably the weakest offhand you can choose. Both of its abilities have way too long Cooldowns imo, and are just very lackluster. I would suggest going with the Focus if you want more survivability, or the Torch if you want more damage. If you just want to look cool then the shield is the way to go.

The core of PvP: an analysis

Guild Wars 2 has the worst combat depth of any MMO I have ever played. World of Warcraft had much greater depth than this during its 2nd and 3rd expansions.

In Guild Wars 2 there are no abilities on my toolbars that I can synergize to perform complex high damage combos. There are no control cooldowns that I can juggle in order to tackle extremely difficult encounters.

In short, the depth of the combat system is so shallow, basic and simple that bad players can beat good players. There’s no skill cap. There’s no steep learning curve.

As a result, there will be no athletes that the masses watch to learn. If you have no athletes, you have no spectators, if you have no spectators, you have no sport.

This game is so dumbed down that the best players are bored to tears.

I don’t see how you can say that when the largest ESport ever to exist gives there players 4 skills and they use simple mouse clicks to move and attack their enemies.

This is kind of a bad analogy.

For one, making another basketball league with the same rules and objectives as the NBA would be more equivalent to making another video game that had the exact same gameplay and objectives as another game that has already been released.

The difference is, GW2 is trying to be as different from any other game and as original as it can. It doesn’t need a “shot clock” because its not “another basketball league.” It’s a completely new “sport” with its own rules and regulations.

With that said, this new “sport” ANet has created is clearly not as popular as some of those already being played, and it definitely has its flaws, but ANet has a vision of what they want their game to be.

Hopefully there is more to come, and some much needed improvements

i dont know about protector strike but i am seeing that Shield of Absorption isnt working good. it doesnt push everyone even sometimes not even 1. plus that it should absorbs projectilis, and i keep getting damage from out of the shield. another thing that i saw the 2nd skill when your downed it should push the enemy too but sometimes it doesnt work.

its most like stability. if the enemy is using stability u can’t knock the back. either that or a well timed aegis can block your knockback. could also be that they blind you so your attack misses.

My personal favorite is the 2 Water/2 Monk/2 Sanctuary for just about any build (+40% boon duration).

Guards have incredible boon output especially with builds similar to yours. For instance, just look at Save Yourself. 10 sec duration on multiple boons. if you increase that duration by 40% all those boons will last for 14 seconds. That’s not even counting the extra duration you’re getting from traiting into Virtues, nor taking into consideration the multiple other sources of boons you have.

If you cast an ability like GS Symbol of Wrath and then almost immediately after casting switch weapons you will get stuck in the animation and unable to move. If that is not the issue then i don’t know. That’s the only thing I’ve ever experienced along the lines of what you’re saying, but it doesn’t happen too often

There are a few threads already with some nice solo or small group roaming builds.

Amins.3710 has a really good thread and he posts regular videos.

I’ve recently been trying a variation of the Boonway Build by Kharel Arhew.1437 for my WvW roaming build. Its a nice balanced build with plenty of mobility via Swiftness and other sources.

Hmm, I would think 20% crit damage through the Valor tree would be better than Empowering Might if you just want to do the most damage possible. How many stacks of might can u sustain with a berserker build? I’m running a boon duration build (rune of water, monk, and Hoelbrak, with 25 points in Virtues [75% might duration]) with 35% crit chance and I can’t really get above 7-8 stacks at a time using only Empowering Might.

edit: I also use GS and Sword to get the most crits in the shortest time

Without additional boon duration, it’s pretty simple. Since EM has ICD of 1s and gained might lasts 5s you can optimally get 5 stacks. Also, you can get 2h Mastery instead of EM. 20 points in Honor is better choice due to better adept and master traits there, Valor traits mostly don’t increase dps (Retributive armour with zerker gear gives 56 precision). Another thing, if you get 25 in Honor, you’ll get Elusive Power, +10% damage when endurance isn’t full (and it won’t be with glass build).

The Adept Honor traits don’t increase DPS in any way (maybe Wrathful Spirit), so it’s really just Empowering Might. In Valor you can get Defender’s Flame. With Shelter, offhand Focus, and other sources of Aegis you can get a few stacks of burning to increase DPS. The Valor Master traits are no good for DPS, no argument there.

But for simplicity’s sake lets just ignore the Adept traits. What it looks like to me is at 20 points you are weighing perma-5 stacks of Might in the Honor tree vs perma-+20% crit damage in Valor to see which has the most DPS. I would think the 20% crit damage would outweigh 5 stacks of might.

Edit: Just re-read your point about Two-Handed Mastery. I think that would be more competitive with 20 points in valor than Empowering Might. Also, if you’re in a group I would concede that Empowering Might is probably better than 20 points in valor because of the group-wide damage increase

If she wants to tank 30 points in the Valor tree to get Altruistic Healing is a must. That with the staff weapon skills Symbol of Swiftness and Empower will provide exceptional self-healing, plus her utility skills and Virtues. The other 40 trait points could be spent in Honor and Virtues. I’m not sure which gear would be best for this, either Clerics or Power/toughness/vitality gear.

If she wants to support I would go something like 0-0-10-30-30 while using 2 superior runes of Water, 2 Monks, and 2 MAJOR runes of sanctuary for maximum boon duration. Cleric’s gear would be the best for this setup.

Other than that your choices are kinda limited for only wanting to use the staff.

Guardian Berserker build

Hmm, I would think 20% crit damage through the Valor tree would be better than Empowering Might if you just want to do the most damage possible. How many stacks of might can u sustain with a berserker build? I’m running a boon duration build (rune of water, monk, and Hoelbrak, with 25 points in Virtues [75% might duration]) with 35% crit chance and I can’t really get above 7-8 stacks at a time using only Empowering Might.

edit: I also use GS and Sword to get the most crits in the shortest time

This whole posts makes my head hurt do you guys even look at you tube lol? Guardians don’t struggle at anything. It’s just not as easy mode as it once was. Thus the giant QQ train. I’d be incline to agree something is wrong if I didn’t have oh 100 videos showing nothing is wrong……..It’s the player not the profession to be honest. You have more than enough examples on this very forum of why and how we are fine.

All I see in this thread at the moment is. People basically saying they leveled to 80 and never learned the profession. So now they want it to be easier because I never learned the proper way to use it. The only thing guardian sucks at is ranged. But even with skill you can overcome that so cut the QQ out. Because you will get something else nerfed complaining about crap we don’t need fixed.

Whoa…chill out for a second. I think you’re mistaking “QQ” for “a discussion about the viability of certain aspects of the Guardian class.”

I personally think Guards are fine for the most part. There are very powerful builds with the Guard – some more than others, and some only more powerful in certain situations. However, just because we want to use these forums to discuss certain traits or abilities, or possibly learn from those who have more experience than we do, doesn’t mean we are crying or stating that the class is in a dire need of attention.

Nice teamwork, but to me this is just a testament to how broken stealth is and how unbalanced Eles are in WvW.

Was fun to watch though.

I personally don’t like Retaliation. I just don’t like how it punishes ppl for attacking you while requiring no effort on your part.

I would much rather see something like:
—Burning scaling better with condition damage
—Increased duration on our burning skills
—Burning proccing twice every .5 – .75 seconds. That way +condition duration would be more viable, as right now you need +100% condition duration to see any benefits.

But in all honesty I don’t think Guards need anything like this as they are in a pretty solid place at the moment.

I have to say that I’ve never really found much use for any of the consecrations besides Wall of Reflection and sometimes Sanctuary.

To me, Sanctuary just seems too inconsistent. Sometimes its blocks projectiles, sometimes it doesn’t. Anyone with stability can completely negate it, and it’s a little too small – i.e. people standing outside the bubble are swinging through the bubble and hitting me. I did trap a guy against a wall with it once though…..that was awesome.

Sanctuary w/ a Healing Guardian + Stability + Tome = awesome.

I’m not sure if I’m misunderstanding you or not, but if you have to use stability with Sanctuary, why should you use sanctuary?

The fire fields are useful for might stacking I guess, but other classes can place fire fields without the need to waste a utility slot for them.

The condition removal on Purging Flames is very lackluster imo, and why not just use Stand Your Ground for the AoE Stability? I guess Hallowed Ground could potentially affect more ppl, but on an 80 second CD?

I’ve seen almost all of your WvW videos Amins, and you have taught me a lot and I in no way doubt your skill and knowledge as a player, but I just don’t see the usefulness of the fire fields, especially compared to some of our other utilities unless there’s just something that I’m not seeing.

When you actually equip the armor and look at your character it will have that mirror-like finish. Previewing and looking through the hero panel don’t show what you will actually look like.

For that particular color, you could just try silver, with some light blue color for the crystals and the lights

So I’ve been trying your build out with a few minor modifications and I have to say, I am really enjoying it. In WvW this is pretty powerful
