Through this logic are we also supposed to disallow infertile men and women to be married under the same definition fertile couples are?

World Boss Health Doubles

Isn’t it the point to balance conditions? Conditions gave massive damage regards of crits which made them stronger than direct damage in world bosses. Now, the balance is restored.

It’s not quite that straightforward as there are a lot of conditional effects that interact with Conditions on-crit, but the crit immunity did a lot more to affect direct damage since the Ferocity modifier does not apply to Conditions. Direct damage definitely gained a lot more from the change, but you’ll see significantly higher Condition stack totals as well.

There are a lot of things contributing to world bosses getting dunked on, especially before today.

Bear in mind that a lot of boon sharing skills and traits were applying to all players in the radius instead of obeying their caps. So basically every player in the stack and 100% uptime of 25 Might and often Quickness. Fury too, but in the context of world bosses that doesn’t actually matter since they cannot be crit. Either way a massive amount of force multiplication was getting added to the player side that should not have been.

Conditions being uncapped certainly account for a large portion of the increase in total combined player DPS versus world bosses. But you also have to remember that up until yesterday, Power-focused builds were already dealing much closer to their potential output than Condition-focused builds. The record on Tequatl was already something like 13 minutes left on the timer before this patch, because the players that set out to specifically do that intentionally built a group that would not be nearly as hindered by the Condition cap. Point being potential combined player DPS has always been closer to what you’re seeing now than what you were seeing in fully open, random groups at world bosses. You just had a much larger proportion of your combined DPS being outright blocked by the design. That particular part of the design was pretty damaging to the overall player experience and we should not be asking for it to be restored. It was not “healthier” than what you’re seeing now. What needs to happen is world boss health rebalanced to account for Condition builds now offering most of their potential DPS just like Power builds have for years, though additional considerations need to be made for the fact that world boss crit immunity does not affect both sides of that coin in the same fashion.

There’s also just a lot of misjudged opportunity costs in the new world of uncapped Conditions. Burning’s coefficient doesn’t appear to be in tune with the frequency in which it gets applied from certain sources, and weapon balance needs another pass to examine how much direct damage is being sent out by attacks that apply damaging Conditions. The latter is pretty important because this did not matter nearly as much in a world where those Conditions were often getting culled in PvE.

Resist the urge to conflate all the potential issues together and point to any one specific thing as being the lone culprit. If you don’t take the time (or, more importantly, they don’t) to isolate each piece that is contributing to the balance shift then the changes made out of ignorance are going to do more harm than good to the health of the game.

so what you mean is, necro nerf again? because why not…

In this case it’s mostly other classes. Necro just has even more powerful transfers now. So there are classes that are basically killing themselves with their overpowered condition setups because they can’t defend against it themselves. For the most part it is Burning, which Necro can hardly leverage – but they can certainly help, say, Engineers cover themselves in their own ridiculous burst stacks of it.

It seems odd to me that this rune set has a Might duration bonus at 4pc while still retaining the Might-when-struck proc. The 7% damage effect is strong enough that it probably should only have retained the Might-when-struck on 4pc like many of the other duration-modifying sets.

I sure hope this game doesn’t go the way SWTOR went for me. I’m in a highly pessimistic mode with all this time gating and new tier kerfluffel.

I hope they have their stuff together on this, otherwise I’m out. So sad. This game had so much potential, it still may. I’ll know for sure next week.

15 level 80s? Might as well forget it, man. All of their post-launch currency systems have been based around a single character. This stuff is account-gated as well, not character-gated.

It isn’t a treadmill in the sense that you are chasing an ever-increasing plateau. This will be the first real plateau shift (and maybe the only one) that happens in GW2.

It will, however, as currently described a vicious grind. For me to rejoin my exact place in the power plateau with my three character will probably take about two years, accounting for time I won’t be able to play. About 1 year 8 months assuming I played every day and could always afford to craft the items on cooldown. Any weapon drops I come upon will take at least 2 weeks off that number each time, but I can’t imagine the drop chance for such a thing is very high and I am likely to find more than one or two during the course of that grind.

Ascended Gear to Kill Builds and Alts?

Wallach.7291

I think people are being too hostile about this, but I agree with the sentiment. One thing that has always been problematic for me in MMOs is that I play a lot of alts instead of just focusing on one character or class. In every MMO I’ve played, I end up with a lot of characters without much powerful gear rather than just one with the best stuff. GW2 was a godsend for me because it let me easily level and fully gear alts without a lot of fuss. I could get to 80, get everything I needed, then play that class whenever I want.

This is slowly being pushed out of reality. WvW bonuses are character bound instead of account bound, so I have 6 characters at rank 30 instead of one at rank 150, and I get to always feel like low-man-on-totem-pole with all the bronze+ guys running around. I only have any ascended accessories on my warrior, but I was never too bothered about it because it didn’t seem too out of reach to get just a few pieces for other characters as well. But now with full ascended gear sets that are ALSO time gated and tied to the same resource as accessories, it feels like I’m being told to pick one class to give the nice things to, and forget about the rest, just like in other MMOs.

This is a massive turn off. I’m not trying to be one of those “hey everyone, look, I’m quitting” guys, but my interest level completely plummeted when I read the news of time gated ascended sets today. I don’t know if I’m completely done, but I’m definitely going to take a break from GW2 and see what else is on the market right now that may fit my interests more.

Pretty much where I’m at. I’ve been interested enough to put a thousand hours or so into this game since head start. I have 3 characters now that I want to support about 2 builds on each. In the current game, even up to now, that is not a particularly grueling task though the addition of Ascended accessories hurt tremendously due to the account-gating. In a post-fully Ascended economy it’s going to be a 92-week grind to have all of them re-join the power plateau unless I want to either stop supporting their builds or cut one or even two of them out entirely.

Those kinds of choices are not what I bought into when this game rolled out. The exact opposite idea was the one I was sold, where joining the power plateau wasn’t hard at all and build experimentation and character variety were encouraged. The idea being presented here is the exact opposite of supporting those concepts.

Something is not right here. Why are people saying Clocktower was harder than Liandri?? I did the clocktower in roughly 10 tries. Liandri, in over 20 tries, still eludes me.

Because liadri was only hard because not all classes or build could defeat her, just because of the way it was designed. This is going to be hard purely because of game mechanics. Since everyone is going to be on an even playing field, which in all ways is a much much better way to do “hard” content.

All professions were certainly capable of beating Liadri. Maybe not all builds, but even that’s a pretty big stretch and wouldn’t know how you’d support that argument reasonably.

Martin’s post seems pretty clear on this …. double click it, pick another Stat…

Another crafting stat. Crafting stats are things like Rampager’s, Berserker’s, etc.

It says both ‘any other crafting stat’ and ‘will gain the ability to be double-clicked to select one of several stat options depending on the item’. So the question is what is the list for each type of item?

Maybe ‘any other crafting stat’ is only for crafted. If that is the case, what about karma items? And special dungeon craftables? And mob drops? Too much unknown. We need to know this information.

Right, I’d wager the options available will be based on the source of the item somehow.

Hopefully the blog post goes up soon because there’s a lot to clear up.

I really don’t see how ascended gear will lock people into playing a certain spec….

If I fully upgrade my berserker gear, I’m not going to wear that 100% of the time. My defensive set will still be better in situations where I need to survive. My condi sets will also be better than upgraded defensive gear for my dot specs.

You’re still able to play the way that you want too. Everything is still doable with exotic gear. Only things that ascended gear help you with in PvE is high level fractals and the odd solo achievement (IE Liadri 8 orb). If this game introduced regular gear check encounters in this game, then you people probably have a reason to complain…. so far that’s not the case.

It’s about influence. Gear has influence over peoples’ decisions of how they play their character. Most people do not carry around sets of Rares if they have a set of Exotic gear that would better facilitate a different play style (even if that play style might be better for some particular piece of content), they simply try to acquire a set of Exotic gear of that variety and make do with their current setup until they can do that. That happens even though the opportunity cost for carrying around Rares is very small; the gold and time requirements are incredibly small, the biggest cost is probably simply the bag space. People still don’t do it.

Once you have people moving towards a set of gear that takes much longer to complete, this influence only becomes stronger. How willing are people going to be to downgrade to Exotics over their Ascended gear to make a change? If people by and large don’t do it for Rares for their Exotic gear when it’s an order of magnitude cheaper, they’re going to be far less likely to do it when the gap increases both in terms of monetary and time investments.

This is going to have an effect on the entire PvE and WvW player bases, since those two are inter-connected. If there was any hope of breaking out of the Berserker PvE “meta” for more diversity, it’s going to be much slimmer once people craft their Berserker Ascended sets that take however many weeks or months to accomplish. Even if you buffed the heck out of the stats and skills that would make those other playstyles more effective, by then people will only be kitten ed off that it will take so long to move to an entire second gear set to try them.

This is entirely ignoring the negative effects this stuff has on people that want to focus on multiple characters having to divert their account resources to one at a time. I just don’t see any meaningful upsides to offset all of these issues. Why not leverage this new technology they built into the game to change stat allocation to prevent some of it?

Anyone CLAIMING that Anet didn’t take the MF item points on Celestial Gear into account when creating the armor – could you please provide a link from a dev backing up your nonsense statement? Thanks a ton.

Exotic Celestial chest armour =270 stat points (45 × 6 stats), plus 6% crit damage, plus 3% magic find

Exotic Tri-stat chest armour (e.g. Carrion) = 245 stat points (101 + 72 + 72)

Exotic Tri-stat chest armour including crit damage (e.g. Berserker) = 173 stat points (101 + 72), plus 5% crit damage

Celestial gear is over budget even without magic find. FACT.

It’s perfectly obvious, given that the intended removal of magic find was announced before Celestial gear was added, that it was budgeted to be desirable even without magic find.

Item budgets are weighted, and the spread of stats obviously carries some of the value of that weighting. The total stat gain is not the only factor.

Wallach.7291

If these Ascended items stay allocation-locked, I’ll probably bow out around the time armor gets implemented. It’s just such a crippling detriment to the build variety this game otherwise totally embraces. The stuff being time-gated only ensures this comes to pass; the gear that players make initially is going to determine their build future for a long time afterwards, and right now the vast majority of the PvE player base uses full Berserker gear. Why you would encourage people to spend so much time to lock themselves to one gear set and thus impose on them massive build-restricting considerations for long stretches of time is beyond me.

The idea of Ascended items being able to be stat-allocation modified solves this problem. I can’t understand why someone would have a problem with it. Even if it would result in people building up a final set of gear stat-wise: so what? That’s exactly what this game should have been headed towards all along. It’s not like the grind for skins wasn’t already what this game was about. It would even give you a much bigger reason to chase Ascended over Exotic, except the result would be to give you vastly more freedom to change your build and encourage players to try new concepts.

When you say that Celestial gear will not be changed, only the Magic Find removed, does this mean I will not be able to select a different stat combination like all the other Magic Find items? I hope not as that is a serious problem. The Magic Find being on the item was one of the primary factors in that stat allocation’s consideration. It made the compromise more compelling. People need to be able to opt out of this stat allocation like all the others if it is being removed.

Secondly, is Celestial going to receive an overall stat boost to compensate for the loss?

From my understanding today, there will not be an option to change celestial stat combinations as it is only the MF being removed. Also, there does not appear to be any intent to add another stat to the celestial gear to replace it.

What’s important though is that they’re creating an opportunity to re-allocate these items specifically because they’re changing the value of them after players have already spent the investment to acquire them. That’s no different in the case of Celestial gear. I know I am not the only player who would not have invested in any Celestial items if they did not offer the Magic Find boost.

Obviously art-related stuff is subjective, but I wanted to comment on this anyway. This is a really awesome armor looking set, but the gear on the shoulder piece seem a bit of an eyesore. It doesn’t look like it’s made out of the same material as the rest of the armor, sticks out in a weird fashion, clips with some weapons pretty badly and is blocking the neat visual glowy bit underneath it. Also, on races like Norn the thing is ridiculously large which makes it look really silly when moving (especially with a weapon unsheathed). I think the shoulder piece would look way better with that bit simply removed.

Class ranking by fun!

Wallach.7291

Here’s my experiences with the characters I’ve played over my first 1,000 hours:

Engineer (#3)- My first character made right at the beginning of head start, but was eventually deleted some time after being 80 (some time well after the Karka event). I really want to like this class and may revisit it some time later, but like the Ranger I feel as if only half the class was actually iterated on well in design. Really disliked all of the turrets, and most of the gadgets (the latter of which especially bothers me as that is the idea that appeals to me most). Still a year later they’re almost totally married to Grenade Kit and/or Bomb Kit. Grenade Kit got old super fast for me as even the 1 skill is a ground-target. It’s a very versatile class, and there are things I absolutely adore about it (especially their Rifle set and Elixirs) but none of the things I want to mix well seem to mix well, and the stuff that is really strong here turns me off.

Ranger (#2) – The second character I put significant time investment into. Like the Engineer, I have a pretty love/hate relationship with the class because only about half of it feels like it came out of the oven when it should have. The bigger issue with this one though is that the worst of it is their pets, which is their entire class mechanic. Terrible pathing issues, they can’t seem to attack while moving which makes them terrible at fighting moving targets (kind of a big problem in GW2 when everything else in the game can move and attack at the same time), their F2 skills only work when they feel like it and even then most of them have ridiculous activation times… the implementation is just nowhere near where it needs to be. You’re also really shoehorned into a particular set of skills to be useful in PvE group/dungeon content as the class has precious few ways to benefit a group in any meaningful way (though their single-target DPS is very good with sword MH at least). On the plus side, this class is pretty strong in PvP and will be even after the current Spirit-based build gets nerfed; many of the tools that don’t have great use in PvE are quite potent in PvP (though not quite as much in WvW). Weapon sets are average to slightly above average. Unfortunately in my case the ones I find less fun are far more effective (like sword and it’s 1-skill kitten chain).

Necromancer (#1) – I made this character at the same time I made my Engineer just to reserve an additional name and later decided to actually play it and slowly take it up to 80. Turned out to be far more interesting than either of my first two choices for me, and when the Pavilion patch came out I took it to 80 and have been playing it heavily. This is a very strong class in my opinion no matter what type of content; one of the few classes that has a reason to spec into conditions for PvE group content, still has strong power-based PvE builds, an absolute monster in WvW and obviously causing people a lot of grief in the mists as well. Immediately after hitting 80 I turned around and cleared the entire Queen’s Gauntlet in what gear I could scrape together, and the next day went back for all the achievements. The Necromancer is not specifically as versatile as a class like the Elementalist or Engineer, but what they do have is a decent number of very strong options that makes it feel like you aren’t forced to play any particular way. Enough options that I still was able to switch up my builds on the fly through the Gauntlet and never felt like the class didn’t have a means to let me conquer a specific goal; the closest was doing 8 orbs Liadri. That’s because one thing the Necromancer does lack is strong in-combat movement options, and doesn’t have nearly as many defensive tools as some other classes. The ones we do have didn’t prove very useful for the way Liadri was designed (no aegis, no blocks, no invulnerabilities, no vigor in a fight mostly about avoiding getting one-shot and running like hell). Probably the most fun class I’ve played during my time with the game and one I’ll be putting a lot more time into.

Warrior (NMI) – I’m not going to speak much on this class as I only just started it recently, but I did want to at the least say that I think it has some of the best weapon sets in the game. Pretty much every one I’ve tried feels great to use. I’m sure that isn’t a coincidence given how the class works, but I think that has a lot of value in the context of how GW2 plays. They also have some amazing trait lines. Necromancer wishes it had trait lines as good as the Warrior.

Now this hinders me to switch my main, I don’t intend to buy more sets. Sorry ANet, they were expensive to buy once, but 24€ twice or thrice is disproportional. +1 for account bound.

This is the biggest issue, in my opinion. People shouldn’t be cut off from their value because they want to focus on another character. ArenaNet should want people to want to focus on other characters and continue playing.

The primary effect stuff like this has on me is that it guarantees I will use gold instead of money for the gems I spend on them. There’s no way I can rationalize being totally cut off from my money investment just because I decide I want to focus on another character. Time is one thing and cash is another; I won’t risk both, and people shouldn’t even be asked to.

Honestly I think one thing that would help a lot would be to break the PvP amulet back down into multiple slots so that you are not forced to take 90% one stat arrangement. Condition damage actually scales like buttcrap compared to direct damage, but because there’s only one stat that actually makes it scale upward on the PvP amulets, these builds are also taking survivability stats by force. Direct damage, for all its advantage in damage modifcation via stats, requires players to sacrifice too much in one area instead of being able to split their survivability more evenly simply because they have too little choice when picking an amulet. I don’t think conditions in the meta would be as strong as they are if players had finer control over their stat allocation.

I’ve also had Deadeye teleport during his charge up attack, just to hit me as soon as he’s clear across the arena. Or shrug off a blind despite being in a blind field. It’s more than a little frustrating at how random this fight can be.

I’ve been trying to figure out the blind thing myself. It is very rare on my Necromancer, but it definitely happens as I started specifically trying to scout it.

What I think might be happening is that if he has a blind, and there is another target in front of you (in my case Flesh Golem, in yours I guess maybe a Thieves’ Guild thief), the attack pierces but counts as separate hits so it misses the first guy then reams you.

Change Magic find to Movement Speed.

Posted by: Wallach.7291

Wallach.7291

I say movespeed stat is as selfish as any other, attack, prec, crit, toughness, vit. I mean all stats are meant to buff the user, so they’re all equally selfish. The only non selfish stat is healing.

On that note I like the idea although I think a movespeed stat would be a bit unbalanced, there’s a lot of situations where it could be pretty overpowered. In WvW mostly.

I do hope however they do something smart with the removing of magic find in gear, if they do decide to replace it with another type of new stat then they need to be careful since it can’t be too specific. Otherwise a lot of people who currently have dedicated a lot into MF will feel betrayed.

I think when people say “selfish” in this context, they’re referring to the stat improving your contribution to the group’s performance. Improving damage and improving healing are really just two different ways of attacking the same problem; one reduces incoming damage by killing the source faster, one reduces incoming damage by attempting to increase the amount of time the group can stay in combat with the source.

Anyone that’s done a lot of raiding in other MMOs probably understands the value of increasing player movement speed in combat; here in GW2 though we have the issue of the way movement speed increases function. There is currently no stacking of movement speed bonuses, only the highest active bonus is applied. The developers may not be comfortable adding a stat that doesn’t operate within the current rules, for fear the value of the stat may not be intuitive to players. If the stat did obey the current mechanics, it would probably not be valuable enough to warrant putting on gear as Swiftness is in abundant supply (precisely because of the current mechanics).

I’ve found the vast majority of people willing to stop and rez. SBI is pretty good like that, I suppose. Though I did have a guy seem to get upset that I did not start rezzing him even though I was the only other person at that arena. Not really sure what he expected.

I think it should be mentioned that there is a problem known as skill delay related to server lag, which means that people who naturally have high latency can’t (or on most professions without invuln/vigor) even complete this fight by default.

Not to mention the color blindness, not to mention the graphical issues, not to mention the extreme FPS/stuttering.

I think Liadri, the way she is now would be fine with improvements to the above.

However, there is no trivial solution to the skill delay, which means that the fight in itself was simply not designed for that subset of the community.

Don’t forget the failed bundle pick-up bug (picking up while moving disabling movement control) or the ranged attack obstruction on rifts. All of the functionality/technical stuff hopefully is addressed by the time this event returns to the game. The margin for error being reduced so far magnifies the effect of “small” issues like these into quite large ones.

If it’s for the regular kill I think condition-based Necromancers actually have a pretty easy time of it. If you’re doing the achievement version, not so much since you can’t just kite her throughout the second phase. Running Scepter/Dagger and Staff will give you good ways to get the snare off you (while additionally snaring her instead), and you have a couple more utility-based condition tools as well like Well of Power or Plague Signet. Keep her snared and you cleared and you can pretty much kite in a circle around the room stacking bleeds on her while keeping in the safe spots. Run Signet of the Locust for your third utility to ensure you don’t have any issues falling behind while moving.

Improved Fast-Cast Ground Targeting

I expected this to be the default skill casting mechanism and the game really needs an improvement in that area. It can be difficult to follow the cursor in big fights and just seeing the target area for a very short time before releasing the key would help a lot.

Having to press a key twice for every cast isn’t a good alternative in fast-paced fights.

This is actually how I expected the fast casting option to work. It would still reduce the act to a single press (like the current fast-casting option) but still leave you the option to check your placement by holding it down for cases where you would feel the need.

Though to be fair, I’d more want to see bosses inspired off Ys. Usually a pattern recognition exercise, usually a matter of using the openings you get to win, and almost always awesome music.

This gauntlet event was sorely asking for some intense, upbeat music to go along with the battles. Really hope they have something when the event returns later.

Toughness does nothing...

I felt like Toughness had a lot of value in some cases, and not much in others. That’s probably intentional, I suppose.

Liadri was probably the most extreme example of this. Doing the fight just to kill her, I think Toughness is of much less value; you can mitigate a fair amount of the damage of the Necrotic Grasp via movement, and heavy kiting can handle her pretty well in the second phase. Doing the achievement version flipped this around, and I found Toughness to be extremely valuable simply because I had little choice but to eat much more of her second phase damage. This also made any damage I took in the first phase much more meaningful as whatever health I started the second phase at made a big difference.

I only take issue with the idea that you think it’s appropriate to be rude to other people here in the forum because you’re frustrated about something in a video game.

That’s the part you’re rationalizing, by the way.

Be rude? What? I’m supposed to kiss the ground you walk on, because you beat Liadri and I called you out on calling people “bad” who were unable/unwilling to complete it?

That’s a joke. I don’t respect you and I don’t respect anybody else who thinks that they deserve a pat on the back, happy ending and bejeweled crown for anything they have done in this game.

I called people “bad” because they couldn’t complete this? What are you even talking about?

This is what I mean about rationalization, you’ve projected all kinds of stupid opinions on people so that it’s easier for you to pretend they deserve to be talked to like that. Now you can move people into a category before they’ve even said anything.

Yet I look and I don’t see signs of these people claiming they deserve other players’ respect for doing it, or claiming other players are “bad” if they can’t do it.

Then why write something so childish and passive aggressive? Were it not aimed at someone it would seem foolish to write it at all, especially in the context of something so meaningless. Don’t twist yourself up in rationalization over a boss in a video game.

You seem to take personal offense, so obviously you belong to that crowd.

I don’t need to rationalize anything. It’s a video game. Beating it is completely meaningless.

There were harder games released for many different consoles, you don’t see people in their 30’s-40’s bragging about it.

I don’t see any resumes with “I beat contra on one life” on them, because nobody cares.

The cruel reality of any soloplay, non-competitive video game is that the only person who cares about your success at it is you.

I only take issue with the idea that you think it’s appropriate to be rude to other people here in the forum because you’re frustrated about something in a video game.

That’s the part you’re rationalizing, by the way.

Well if that’s the case, then nobody has anything to worry about.

This is a completely vitriolic thing to say. I’m relatively successful outside of this game. Doesn’t mean I can’t look for a challenge in a game as well. Don’t try to tell others what their idea of fun should be either. I actually enjoy difficulty, as do many others. Try to realize not everyone thinks like you do.

Amazing how you took offense at something that only addressed people who were trying to claim that people who were unable/unwilling to complete the content were inferior in real life.

Help with Meta Achievement

There are a couple Warrior videos floating around that show a strategy for Liadri that I feel like most people could execute. Pretty much getting her to P2 then obliterating her before the fight can go much further. If you have Berserker gear for your Warrior I’d consider checking the Warrior forum for it. Plus you’d get the cool mini.

I have to imagine a similar strategy works for the Subject-7 achievement, in that you’d go in, take it down a ways, then knockback and go for a burst kill before it can get out of control.

As for the multi-gambit stuff, I did 5 gambit on Deadeye, but that was on a condition-based Necromancer. If you could find a strategy that let you do 3 gambit on one of them you’d knock it out in one go since it would give you both the 2 & 3 gambit achievements. I may be wrong but I suspect Warrior is your best bet.

Edit: This is one of the videos I was thinking of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYAjo4ZZXLo

You can play it much safer in phase 1 than him since she’ll die so fast that the timer won’t matter.

Ya, I love the permanent axe. I really want permanent harvesting equipment. It is really a pain to “run out” of charges in the middle of nowhere or have to use up inventory space to make sure you don’t run out.

The problem with these is that if you have more than one character, you’re screwed. Because they’re soul bound.

They really need to make these account bound. Kind of absurd to ask people to spend 2,400 gems per character to acquire a set of these. I’m hoping since they made the reusable salvage kit account bound they might reconsider this stance.

Not only will it include our PvP championship live on stage, we’ll have some other reveals you’re not going to want to miss…stay tuned! (and no the reveal is not an expansion!)

Finally you get to reveal to the world that Necromancers are getting jetpacks. Right?

Issues with GW2 and the concept of "alts"

For a game that does not charge a subscription, I figure getting people to invest in multiple characters would be one of the primary ways you keep people around and potentially spending money. It seems at odds then with many of the ways you cut players off from their investment whenever they try to do this.

Stuff like the gem shop tools being soulbound. Why? One of the best uses for these things would have been to encourage people to pass them to new characters so that they could gather freely while leveling up. Totally squashed. Or the achievement skins forcing you to choose individual weapon types that aren’t shared between classes. This one is even less logical because the achievement points are a record of your entire account’s achievements, yet you may wind up getting blocked from being able to use your rewards on the characters that contributed to your earning them in the first place. Why not at least give players the opportunity to swap these choices so that current and future characters could benefit from all the time the player invested to earn them? Players would still have reason to chase the higher tiers because you’d be able to withdraw more skins simultaneously.

A lot more could be done to make people feel like time invested in new characters wouldn’t be wasted or feel like throwaway slots next to whatever “main” they started with. I’m hoping that the wallet is only the first sign of things to come in moving in the right direction. Players should be building up an investment on their accounts, not individual characters.
