Look at the pve meta builds in the stickies at the top of the forum. Most are S/F anyhow. Essentially, S/F you would run virtually the same as S/D, just /F is somewhat more defensive (although since you mention healing, less heals too – granted not much, but water 5 dagger is a heal vs. no heals on /f, same number of blast finishers though, just in different spots).
/F is superior because of the longer lasting fire field and better blasts. Earthquake has poor CD, and Churning Earth is nigh unusable in combat. The two blasts on the focus are shorter CD, as well as bringing Swirlies and Obsidian Flesh into the mix.
Dagger OH shouldn’t really be used in the offhand, imo.

Proposal Overview
Reduce the length of the Underground Facility fractal. (sry for the wall of text but I couldn’t make it any shorter without leaving something out)
Goal of Proposal
The goal is to make the Tier 3 fractals more equal in length and reduce the frustration players experience while in the Underground Facility. As it stands, just the clown car part of the dredge fractal takes as long as completing either the Volcanic, Aetherblade or Thaumanova fractals. Getting dredge as the 3rd fractal makes the whole run take 20 minutes longer than it would take with any other 3rd fractal.
Proposal Functionality
I take ‘proposal functionality’ as ’how to implement the proposal, so here goes:
1) The pressure plates – we know how the puzzle is intended to be done, but due to the endlessly respawning dredge and not being able to dodge while standing on a pressure plate the final room is unnecessarily sensitive to errors (more than would be reasonable). Suggestion: make the pressure plates in the last room significantly larger so that you could dodge on them without making the console reset.
2a)The cannon room is designed in a way that includes you fighting through the dredge, stealing the cannons and blasting the door while fending off the defending dredge. In reality it doesn’t work like that. Stealth is mandatory because the amount of the endlessly respawning dredge is absurd and cannot possibly be contained without a wipe even by an experienced party without stealthing. However unlike in the bomb room, if you decide not to use stealth you can still make progress little by little by firing the cannons even through several wipes. Suggestion: reduce the amount of endlessly respawning dredge significantly here.
2b) The bomb room is designed to be completed in a way that includes you fighting through the dredge while dropping bombs and defending the bombs while the fuse of the bombs go off. In reality it doesn’t work as intended – stealth is mandatory and becomes more and more crucial the higher the level goes because the amount of endlessly respawning dredge is just absurd and cannot possibly be controlled or contained while waiting for the bombs to go off, let alone even getting to drop the bombs without stealth. Unlike in the cannon room here it is impossible to make progress in case of a wipe because the dredge will pick up the bombs immediately if you can’t defend them. Suggestion: close the bomb room permanently; or significantly reduce the amount of dredge and shorten the bomb fuse.
3) The Clown Car. This encounter is arguably the most complained about in the whole game. It seems to serve as a mere time gate, is not innovative, not fun and on top of this is bug-ridden. There is no fun and no point in spending 10 minutes at lvl49 fractal just to kill dredge after killing the trivial boss in the room. Apologies for sounding bleak but this encounter is the main reason why this fractal is by far the least liked. Suggestion: remove the encounter.
Associated Risks
I see no risk in making the changes above. I firmly believe that implementing the changes I suggested above the dredge fractal can be made more fun, less tedious and length-wise be put in line with the other tier 3 fractals.

dat wall
Dear Arenanet (and pls dont move this to the living world thread, this is bout the policy in general).
In mainland eaurope it is now 11 pm in the evening. Many people gathered for the new patch. Many people who have been gone for a long time have been waiting for this new patch.
You have hyped it up to the max, but for us (in our timeframe) you are not delivering.
I udnerstand why you can’t give a good estimate time about an update. But promising to blow up LA on the 18th means on the 18th and not on the 19th. you had a great change to get old players back but you blew it.
I know that asking for a response isn’t ok. But I do want express my hope that a dev is going to react. You have missed a big boat tonight, and my love for your game makes me sad.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I haven’t played fractals since ANET decided to fracture their quality and fracture my faith in the company itself, but Engineer used to be able to solo maw really easily, and perform some other fun tricks in fractals as well.
Would that be stronger – OF COURSE.
Is it justified/needed at all – ABSOLUTELY NOT!
Drake’s breathe is a fine skill as it is and is pretty balanced given the damage/condi/cooldown. It also benefits from burning being the strongest condi for non-condi builds by far, and applies a very nice burn to set up firegrab.
Ele can use a little more mobility/survivability, but don’t need this.
Arcane Shield, Mist Form and Signet of Fire are what I usually bring to the fight against the last boss Arch Diviner in Fractal level 50. Abeit having lower DPS than when I fight bosses like Bloomhunger, they help me sustain a lot in that fight and go as far as to revive allies should they fall.
I suppose the eles won’t bring a lot of DPS nor useful buff on the table like wars or guards but I believe their roles are beyond that of no DPS or DeadDPS:
- Taking aggro with Earth Elemental
- Chaining Chill, Immobilize and Cripple on Arch Diviner
- Best cleave range, able to take down those annoying Bone Fiends at once
- Chaining block, invulnerability to revive downed allies
- doranduck, 2016 on Lore in Raids
I found D/F is the best in Fractals and Arah, while Sc/LH is much better elsewhere. The small difference in DPS cannot make up for the extra viability they bring to each situation, especially when our supposed carriers (e.g. guards) are found dead.

Furthermore, I say we replace a certain inaccurate sticky with DeKeyz’s guide.

Honestly, there should a big disclaimer in this thread saying that you shouldn’t use these exact builds for anything harder if you don’t have a team that can carry you (guardians mostly).
It’s official. Anet actually hates it’s player base.
Tooltips are often wrong.
I’m sick of all the negativity here, so here’s something every ele can agree upon.
It is something no other class can parallel! We are the most fun class to play looks wise!
From lightning whip, meteor shower to churning earth and swirling winds, we have the most epic skills in this game.
I always thought this dude was bad as heck, and no wonder I picked ele. I basically am him!

Fresh Air Warhorn

I solo with 30/30/0/0/10 D/F, and yes, Glyph of Elementals (Earth) is amazing at pulling aggro, while Glyph of Storms (Earth) will keep things blinded while you burst it down. The weapon set is only mid-range, but it has a good amount of survivability with its defensive skills in air and earth attunements as well as interrupts in water and air attunements, and you can always toss on a staff if you need a pure ranged setup for something.
Just don’t craft any assassin gear before ferocity revamp.
Poor FGS…. Accused so often of being an exploit….
Of course, it’s very existence might be a bug.

I am a Chef by profession. I currently head up a Japanese restaurant and do sushi. I am pretty good at what I do. I am in no way comparable to that of say Chef Morimoto. But you don’t see me crying and sulking and demanding a “nerf” to him, his crew and his restaurants.
To All of the gang at {rT]
that was absolutely outstanding and VERY, VERY well done. greatly impressed and I can only imagine the attention to detail, tweaking, theory crafting and final application of how ever many hours it took you to finally pull it off. My hats off to you. and maybe someday I might be able to run with you. Keep doing what you are doing and Keep being awesome. You are indeed an inspiration for at least some of us.
and maybe someday I might be able to go to eat at Morimoto’s place and appreciate his work.
I second the d/f recommendation for fractal pugs. I usually use 30/30/10/0/0, but moving the 10 to arcana for perma vigor is a safe option. Lightning whip has a 300 range, and you can safely “melee” bosses that most pugs tend to range (arch-diviner, imbued shaman, etc.) Also i find myself spamming swirling winds, because pugs rarely use reflects. Arcane shield + mistform + obi flesh will give you enough time to res your teammates even under focus fire. There are situations where you will want to use LH, but I don’t find myself using it enough to trait for it.
Welcome back Zelyhn!!!

The fact that most of these items ever existed is just blatantly a bug. The decision to throw cooldowns on them were for server performance/stability as the patch notes said, not for balance. Period. This was something that was long overdue.
Think of it this way: Between the embers and whistle, those items were effectively doubling/tripling the amount of players active in a map.
As for the Charrzooka, I’m not sure what the reasoning behind that change was. That wasn’t part of the change to summons, or at least that I’m aware of.
