Why would they do that? This is a gift for people who been there from the beginning. Wait for your 5th birthday or deal with it, please.
Community of this game is funny, they would like to have everything easily accessible. Some other dude started bashing Anet in another thread because they did not contain Perma Frost Dye in the present. This is just ridiculous.
Oh trust me, I’m one of the main people thinking things in this game are too easy to obtain and people moan too much but your comment is completely irrelevant here. Notice how I said I don’t mind it being hard to obtain as long as it’s actually possible to obtain.
These are amazing looking skins and my favourites. I started GW2 late so I’m really expected to wait 3 more years to get these skins that I love? No that’s just a joke.
That map TD has basically died out now. No one enjoyed it much to begin with but now its rare to see the meta happening. That means the chances of that egg sac appearing are a million to one
This is just an example of someone searched desperately for something to complain about. The new screen is great and needed. It makes sense rather than the match just ending and people standing around. If you dont victimise yourself then the screen encourages you if you lose and makes you feel proud if you win.
Seen this same kind of screen in multiple other games and mmos and never seen complaints there. Why should there be a complaint here?
So when I saw these skins data mined last month I instantly fell in love. These are easily my favourite weapon skins in the game and I assumed they would be part of the expansion which made me even more excited.
When I found out today they are only for the 5th Birthday present I was completely heartbroken.
Anet please add another way to obtain these! I don’t even mind if its hard or expensive.
Core mechanics of Rev haven’t been fixed in 2 years and still bug out. Now we have more skills that dont work properly. I think its time for everyone to just give up on this class
Sorry but Renegade wins this battle
So I played Rev in PvP season 1 and 2 and loved it. Safe to say it flowed well with my play style and I kicked ass getting to diamond first time then legendary the second time. When the nerfs came in I retired my Rev to PvE and WvW and my Ele took over as my PvP character which has taken me to consistent platinums with the new leagues.
With the recent slight buffs to Rev and my undying love for the class I decided to try my hand again in PvP recently. I have played 20 games in the past few days and all I can say is that it just sucks. I post this to try to understand what everyone else thinks or what I’m doing wrong.
To start with the damage doesn’t feel terrible. But half of my attacks just seem to bug out of miss. Chaotic release is always blocked or misses. The same with Jade winds. UA always cancels itself out and leaves you motionless ready to be killed in high action situations. Frigid blitz just goes on CD without working half of the time. When it comes to survivability bow rangers, warriors and Mesmer can literally CC lock me to death. Anything condi melts me in seconds.
Don’t get me wrong, when I’m playing on my Ele the only class I think I have never lost against in a 1 vs 1 is a Rev. But this begs the question why isn’t there more complaints about Rev in PvP?
I’m just returning to game after an 8 month break. Have experience in all raids and actively PvP at a high level. Looking for a guild that does PvE content but is also sociable with a good atmosphere.
I genuinely don’t have much to say on this other than the fact that I think it would be hugely beneficial to Gw2 PvP.
Having 4 players in each team instead of 5 puts more emphasis on the skill of an individual without sacrificing team play. Right now matchmaking is just a feat of luck on whether or not you have a good team. Having 4 vs 4 allows your skill to have more effect on a match and will give people hope to improve their abilities.
I don’t think the length of matches would be extended drastically and I think 4 vs 4 would lead to much more skilled and balanced matches.
If anyone disagrees and has a good reason why, feel free to shoot me down.
Count yourself lucky. I’m in low gold now after starting the season in Platinum. I get +7-10 for a win and -20-27 for a loss
No the problems with this season is it rewards only exploiters and throws the virtuous players under the bus.
Another problem is that this system offers no good quality in PvP matches like you would find in other dedicated ranked PvP games on the market.
Another problem is that idlers/AFKers are not being punished for creating beyond game breaking conditions match after match for players who are actually trying to enjoy PvP in GW2. The privileged club players that was bless to have under 30 games or even less siting on top of the leader boards played telling others who are dealing with such game breaking conditions to Git Gud and Learn to Carry, when they know they themselves would not be able to do so themselves. So you continue to get a smaller and smaller PvP population as a result.
Broken and not so fun METAs and class balances goes unchecked for 3 month or more at a time.
Class Stacking being allowed in a Ranked environment in GW2. Where it’s not even allowed in a Ranked environment in any other game’s Ranked Matches/Leagues.
Also another problem is that GW2 has lost a lot and continues to bleed what’s left of it’s core of PvP players, because of what said above. And instead of fix the above issues in a timely manor the devs rather just sweep things under the rug and continue working ok PvE….No surprises there for one most super casual non competitive PvE centric MMO on the market.
Amen.
And this is also me, a veteran PvP player, out too. I seriously had my sights on the top 150 at the start of the season. But watching myself flick from Plat T1 down to Silver T3 and back up 3 times in a row with seemingly no control of my own over it is just too much.
I will be back for next season, I hope Anet improve something by then.
Over 5000 games played and this season is the worst for me in Gw2. I’m happy with class balance (Rev does need work though) and im happy with my abilities in matches. What I’m not happy about is the way these matches get prepared.
Today I found myself in team with a Revenent and DH who both had no guild and no title. I noticed a lot in the match they seemed to be doing weird things, DH rushed Lord from the start of the match, Rev just sucked and I watched die in less then 5 seconds to a DH. We obviously lost with a blowout but I thought to myself not to worry, its just one game.
The next game i’m matched with the exact same 2 people in my team. I have seen this happen a lot and i’m cursing myself for not waiting to queue. Needless to say we have yet another blowout and this time I really observe them and the mistakes they make are something someone completely new to PvP would make which is shocking for high gold.
So then I wait 5 minutes and put some food in the oven before queueing again. I get into the game and to my absolute shock I have the same 2 people in my team yet again. Another blowout. Furthermore all 3 of these games the enemy had a balanced team and we would have 2 rev or 3 engi.
Yesterday I played 7 games and won every one. Today I have so far lost 6 in a row. I have played enough games in Gw2 to know that something just doesn’t feel right at all.
This is exactly what has killed my motivation to play at all this season. I sensed it in previous seasons but it feels much more definite and impacts you more now.
I love PvP in mmos and I have played many games. Gw2 is the first where I go into the game not thinking how well I play will affect if we win. I know that if I maintain a 60% win rate and start climbing the ladder I will soon hit a losing streak and drop right back to where i started.
They need to give more power to the individual to have an impact on matches. Maybe removing down state would do this.
I have 4000 games played but this season I haven’t managed to get higher than Plat T1/Gold T3. I just haven’t managed to click this season and despite still managing 1 vs 2 at Plat I always seem to end up with teams that just are so outmatched by the opponent. Can’t break out of my 50-60% win rate.
I have pretty much given up now and just log in every 3 days to stop decay.
This is so true and the exact problem with PvP right now.
I was maintaining my place in Gold T3 with a 60% win rate for days, never really moving. I was getting bored of DH meta so changed it up just to have a bit more fun. I played burn guard for the first time and wow it just clicked with me, I played so well with the spec. I was suddenly 1 vs 2 and 1 vs 3ing people and felt like I was making a huge difference. But as soon as I changed spec I was somehow losing games. I got onto a huge losing streak despite feeling like I was making a big difference. The craziest moment is when i killed 1 vs 3 at far in a match and was so proud then turned to mid to see my team had wiped 4 vs 2.
It doesn’t matter how well you play once you get past mid gold. Winning a match comes entirely down to who you get matched with.
I glided to the far North West and there is an old collisseum wall on unrendered terrain far from the lobby.
So PvP is the main thing I focus on in Gw2. Across the previous seasons system I enjoyed playing for the entire season amassing around 350 games each time. Even when hitting legendary there was still a desire to keep playing.
This season however I literally log into PvP once every 3 days just to stop decay and maintain my platinum rating. The badge is the main thing I care about and im sure i speak for many PvPers too. I know I don’t have enough skill to climb into Legendary but at the same time I know i’m where I belong however if I play more regularly then i could hit that unlucky streak that sends me falling and unable to climb back up.
So im stuck in this horrible position where I find myself desperately wanting to PvP (its in my blood) but refusing to play more than once every 3 days so I don’t drop rank. Surely I’m not the only one to be feeling like this.
Is this really how everyone wants PvP to be?
Well, I sure do: if you can’t maintain your rank without opting out of PvP then you are placed too high, and are essentially avoiding actual gameplay to retain it.
Which I’m one hundred percent behind: it means that you won’t spend time yelling at other players because you believe that you are amaaaazing, and so the loss must be their fault – or whatever other toxic behaviour you end up falling into when you stop getting the rank you “know” you “deserve”.
PvP for the PvPers, is what I’m saying. Not PvP for the people who sulk when they turn out to be less good than they imagine they are.
Did you actually bother to read anything in this post?
I already said I have no problem winning. I fought my way to Plat from Silver T3. What I’m speaking about is how the new system is so dependent on your team mates and its so scary that you will get on an “unlucky” losing streak.
So you do not want to lose your rank, that’s fine. Nobody does.
But it doesn’t sound like pvp is truly your “main thing”. The past seasons had a horrible system which allowed anyone to reach legendary.
Basically what you are saying is that you don’t want to play because there is no visual progression for you. And that, without judging you, is a general problem in mmo’s. People always want a big cookie for everything they get. But that’s not the spirit of true pvp. You play pvp because you like the pvp itself, not because you want to grind your way through a ladder.
If you know that you won’t reach legendary that’s fine, but what stops you from trying? In pvp it’s all about skill. You play because you want to win. To win you have to be the best and that is the only thing you are striving for. To become better and beat everyone you face. It may not be today, neither tomorrow, but you will eventually rise to the top. And as long as you are having fun in some well balanced games (no matter the actual situation) it doesn’t matter if you move up or down.
All you want is victory and having a good time in the game. Why would a care about a virtual number if you don’t play the game anymore? I just never understand this.
I find PvP in Gw2 really fun. Thats why I play it instead of PvP in other mmos. However right now I don’t feel like its fun because I go into every game praying for a decent team. Before I had it in my head that my skill mattered and by playing well we will win. But thats ruined with this new system where it is entirely down to not getting matched with noobs.
The addition of titles and tags is exactly what I love. I want to look cool. I want to have something to show for my skill in PvP. But knowing I can lose that cool look by having an unlucky streak of bad team mates is what is ruining my motivation to play.
I think this is a fantastic idea. I would be all for it. PvP in Gw2 really needs something other that “Capture the point” modes and Stronghold didn’t quite cut it.
I forgot about saying you another thing, you prob have “Ladder anxiety” but is rly common. You can google it.
Blizzard made a study about Starcraft2 because some people were rly afraid to look for a 1v1 match in the macthmaking. I personaly know some people who press the Search buttom and then they start to sweat and in the end they cancel the search. You just need to relax and feel confident with yourself, if you rly thing that you are plat why are you afraid to lose it? Even if you do it, why cant you get it again? Everyone have bad days and after 4 or 5 losses in a row its better to stop for some hours or even the entire day.
Again sorry for my english
I’m not really afraid despite my post making it sound like that. I win 60-70% of my games. However I know from not only previous seasons but this season that you can go on losing streaks where it feels like no matter how well you play you wont win.
At the start of the season i dropped to low gold from a 12 game losing streak, I seemingly had no control over as I played my best. Then after taking a break and playing the same way I managed to grind my way back to Plat after about 50 games.
I’m not scared of losing. I’m scared of the losing streaks.
So PvP is the main thing I focus on in Gw2. Across the previous seasons system I enjoyed playing for the entire season amassing around 350 games each time. Even when hitting legendary there was still a desire to keep playing.

Is this really how everyone wants PvP to be?
The points gained in relation to the time it takes to relog don’t really give them an advantage.
The match length is fine and doesn’t need changing. There is so much more that could be changed instead.
Matches are not determined at the start at all. 70% of my games in gold it’s pretty close until the end.
I don’t see it helping much at all but I do see it making games feel too short. The current length of a pvp game is pretty much the same as matches in other games.
I have played Gw2 for 2 years now and I don’t think there is another mmo that offers so much right now. PvP however is my thing and the reason I play mmos. I like the pvp in Gw2 due to class mechanics and the fun factor of it all. All that was missing for me was more of a sense of competition given via leaderboards or titles or a K/D count. This season brought that so imagine my excitement.
We all know how this season has gone. Now my question is why PvP in Gw2 is so different? I have spent long amounts of timing playing AoC, Rift, Aion and WoW and I never ever saw many people AFKing, DCing, flaming their team or being downright incompetent.
How can Gw2 have all these problems that other games don’t? Bear in mind these are player created problems and not Anet problems.
I have a 70% win rate in Gold but I gain +10 for a win and -18 for a loss. Even when I get on to 6 or 7 game win streaks. Obviously I’m meant to be higher ranked so why do I gain so little and lose so much? The system is broken.
Feel lucky dude. I was placed in Silver T1 after 3 seasons of Legendary. I have gone through hell to fight my way up to Plat T1 which is where I feel I more belong.
Completely disagree with the OP. Raids and High level fractals is where true toxicity is in this game. When you get kicked from a team for the smallest things.
PvP leaderboards are one of the few things that are great about this season. PvP is supposed to be competitive and this helps out.
Agree with everything . That’s how it is in PVP in other MMOs and I never saw so many complaints.
I guess I got featured. xD
Man, I ear you. I know I’m a n00b and all, and I don’t consider myself the best player on earth but you are definitely right on what you are saying. Altough it wouldn’t be fair for someone to be less or higher ranked just because he did more games. he idea is good the mechanism is wrong. And its like, you get influence by what your team does aswell, image if you did a great game, even if you assisted in kills and helped in the decap process and did your game right and dint get any top stats. It wouldn’t be fair to to judged base on values. Or else, everyone would be competing even inside their own teams to get that advantage and steal kills and be greedy on capturing points.Guess we will have to live with someone that will have “God Of PvP” as a title from now on until next season, that is when, and maybe, they’ll fix some stuff up and get things rolling again the way it suppose to be.
Sorry for that! I was just using this as an example as I noticed it when I was checking the leaderboard and thought it looks wrong. No disrespect to you.
The system then is ENTIRELY based on luck as if you want to successfully move up the leaderboard then you need to be placed against better MMR players. This is fundamentally flawed.
I still think its essential to gain more or lose less points if you have top stats in a game (focus this simply on defending points or something to prevent chasing stats). Or they should make your skill rating increase with win streaks. I’m on a 12 game win streak today and still getting the same +9 points per win.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a more skill based system and I do think the new system is a step in the right direction.
However It needs ALOT of work. My photo is exactly what is wrong. There is no way those 2 people above me should be there with that win/loss ratio. You can literally just play a few hours of the season then quit. Aren’t we supposed to be encouraging a healthy season?
The “Oh but they will get decay” argument is useless too because they can log in once every few days and play one game which will still keep their rating high and leave skilled pvpers stuck in divisions below them.
The next thing is the skill rating increases. I haven’t played as many games as most people but my win rate is around 75% now after a losing streak during placements and start. However I get +9 for a win and -25 when i lose. It makes 0 sense. I’m so terrified to lose because it destroys the progress of 3 previous games.
I hope Anet keep this system but drastically change the way skill rating works.
I have been waiting for Trickster’s armour for so long now. Is there a set schedule for the rotation of armour sets?
Honestly due to this broken system, the only reason i still play PvP is for the gear.
Remove the gear and you are gonna have barely anyone in PvP specially with this current system.
So you have almost the same win/loss ratio as me yet I’m in Silver T3 when im consistently getting top stats. That just shows this system is broken.
There is no denying that Anet had the right intentions with this season redesign however it is fact that your ranking is based 80% on luck. I’m going to jump right in and say what I think should be changed in order to make a more successful pvp season.
1) Make top stats give you more points – Top stats show that you played well in the game. Having these be more rewarding highlights skill more than luck. It also would encourage people to not give up and stay in the game. You should perhaps get 5 extra points per top stat when you win a game and you should lose 5 less points per top stat when you lose a game. Sure, this may encourage people to chase things like kills but it would also give way to a more skill based system.
2) No placement matches! – These 10 matches make or break your entire season. You can be a fantastic player and get unlucky in a few matches and get confined to gold. Make everyone start in bronze and give everyone equal ground to climb the divisions so there can be no complaints.
3) Less points lost for close games – Also encourages people to keep fighting and its also heartbreaking in Gold to lose a game by 20 points and end up losing 35 SR points.
4) Destroy bunker/condi meta once and for all – This is more just wishful thinking. Maybe one day.
I certainly believe the first 2 are vital to making a good season. Would be interested to hear what people think.
Disagree with every point you made
Clearly you are doing well from a luck based system.
Skill rating NEEDS to come down to actual individual skill and not luck, thats just how the system right now is intended to be. The current system awards luck over skill and my suggestion is the only thing i can think of to give individual skill more of an impact without breaking or unbalancing the system.

This post is exactly the same situation I’m in!
I have been legendary in 2 of the previous seasons and I feel like my skill is plenty good enough on Ele and Warrior to be challenging for the top 150. I got 4 unlucky DC’s in my first 10 placement matches which put me in low gold and I have been stuck there ever since. Stuck on a 50/50 win ratio which seems impossible to change and i’m not moving at all.
This entire season is literally decided by your first 10 placement games. That’s a monumental flaw.
Our amazing UI artist has already made a pass on these and they are much more distinguishable and bright.
I really hope you mean they are waiting to be patched in. The current badges i can’t tell the difference between anything.
I’m Gold ranked Ele main.
Ele is definitely essential to every team, and its bunker Ele’s at that which is making this season a bit dull and a team with an Ele has an advantage over one without any day.
I would honestly say that Warrior is next and I feel is really OP right now. DH’s are everywhere and its true they are strong but they are so easy to beat if you know how as they are often played by people with 0 skill. Warriors on the other hand are running around god mode outhealing and being invulnerable to everything whilst dealing out huge amounts of damage.
The rest of the classes I would say are in a good place. Rev of course is the exception and might as well be garbage. Rarely come up against one and when I do it makes it feel like 5 vs 4.
This is absolutely essential in my opinion!
Then lucky or unlucky streaks are weakened to some extent and the leader boards will be more of merit.
So before I get started I just want to point out that I loved the previous seasons. I thought the system was great and whilst it was more of a grind than skill it worked decently.
This season however I think is completely flawed. Having your skill rating and consequently leader board ranking entirely based on your win/loss ratio is just plain dumb. For someone who really has no luck like me (I had 4 DCs in my placement matched) this new system just makes it impossible to rise up the ranking even when I’m getting top stats every game.
All I really play gw2 for is pvp and exclusive rewards like the new titles are exactly what I want in an mmo. But when 40% of my games I have people dcing or afking it’s just impossible to get anywhere close to what I want and what I believe I can achieve.
For the first time since I started playing 2 years ago I am having the desire to quit. I held out for months for this season and now I realise the leaderboard is pretty much cemented after 2 days and entirely based upon luck.
I had 3 dc’s in my 10 games which undoubtedly cost us the game, 2 of those games we were only 100 points behind.
It put me far lower on the leaderboard because of it and its extremely frustrating.
I tested this out extensively in PvP just now and i can safely say its not op. Most hammers seem to miss and Dwarf stance really lets you down. I felt much weaker.
Something that is pretty OP about Rev now is the downed damage though.
Let’s disregard everything the OP said.. all you need is a dash of positivity and a philosophy taken from a kungfu movie.
Everyone on the forums is mechanically flawless and strategically superiour compared to their division counterparts.
They just have really bad luck tho and/or a system that is keeping them down.
Oh trust me. If I focused on myself then I would believe that I’m not good enough to make it to Legendary and belong in Diamond. However seeing PvE’rs from my guild who have acknowledged im a better pvper than them getting to Legendary in 2 weeks, thats what has broken me.
Besides yesterday there was a player in my team who was there to “Tank MMR”. He was intentionally going AFK to lose the game. We all get one game from time to time like that I guess but i proceeded to get matched with him not twice, not three times but four games in a row. Bad luck? Really?

Oh I had that attitude for the first 400 games haha
What is your skill level? If you are good but nor really good, then you are right in diamond independent of the number of matches played.
I played in Legendary with my friends and did completely fine. I feel I should be there.
In Diamond I win 1 on 1s 80% of the time. Hold far against multiple targets for extended durations and don’t doubt my skill at all. I just seem to get 70% of my games stuck with people who have no idea what they are doing.
The only reason I rage is because one of my friends who has never touched PvP in Gw2 before Season 2 got straight to Legendary in 2 weeks.
Absolutely awe full. For me last season was miles better. Matchmaking is so beyond broken that it prevents good players from getting to Legendary and allows PvE players who have barely touched PvE to go straight to Legendary. I sincerely hope something changes.
Last season: 132 matches – Legendary
This season: 586 matches – Diamond T2
Git gud or broken matchmaking? I have never felt so drained and stressed from a game before.
Whilst watching my friends around me who have never stepped foot in PvP before this season get to Legendary whilst I get stuck fighting un winable games in Ruby is just heartbreaking.

So after playing over 300 games this season, a fair few of them across Diamond and Legendary, I have come to a conclusion that I think Revenent is one of the biggest liabilities.
Thief and Warrior are often the classes people rage about. However Thief can actually be a tide turner in some games with fast capping and if good can win vital 1 on 1s. Warrior leaves a little to be desired but can still do great 1 vs 1. I’m really unsure why people dont rage more about Revs in the team though?
The reason why i say they are the biggest liability is that they melt to condi in seconds. And with 80% of ranked now being condi they just die so fast around you. Are their party buffs really worth them dying in seconds in team fights and handing the enemy free revives?
True, If a Rev is played very well then it can really help the party. But lets face it, probably less than 10% of Revs in Ranked are played well. When playing my Thief, Necro or DH I don’t think I have ever lost a 1 vs 1 with a Rev.
I have won far more games with Thieves and Warriors in team that I have Rev. So I just wondered why all the hate is directed at those classes and not more at Rev?
EDIT: I should add that i’m talking more about Solo queue. In a good premade enough support can be provided to make the Rev viable.

This should really be Anet’s new Moto.
After being stuck in MMR hell for 2 weeks I was finally starting to rack up a 60% win 40% loss ratio again. But after getting a 4 game win streak I was put back into MMR hell and 5 games in a row my end score screen has looked liked this….
