Rich players would not make decisions for the games direction. Please read my original post.

They have the money they need. They’re simply not listening to the community about how to spend it. I have to agree with Guhracie on this one, if they came out and said “we need money” I would only be willing to donate if they figured out the things that need to be changed (communication being number 1).

January 2015: Kickstarter funding successfully ends.

July 2015: ANet rolls out a paid expansion box with open world PvP, dueling, no waypoints, permadeath, level 100 cap, Transcendent gear, player to player trading, and playable dervish quaggans in clown outfits with capes riding flying mounts (Tengu) and swinging huge pink shining poles.

August 2015: new players are running away in terror, older players facepalm and uninstall the game, the players who gave advices in forums say “this game is dead!” and move back to WoW.

GJ!

I suppose you tried to be comical but that’s not really helping :/. Though some of that sounds pretty fun (Playable Dervish Quaggans riding Tengus? kitten yes!). But obviously you didn’t take into account that I specifically stated a return to Cantha and Elona as requested by pretty much every single previous player of GW1 (not all).

You dont get it, money is no problem here. Anet don’t want to create expansion, they focus on cheap developing: minimum content, maximum profit. If you dont like it you should quit, new players is all anet cares right now coz new players dont have big demands :P

You don’t get it. The “it” in this case referring to my original post. The funds would be used to “persuade” ArenaNet to work on the much wanted content. I hate that comment that just because I don’t like something I should quit. The very fact that I am wanting to improve the company that has created the game I love so much shows that I would never quit. The very idea is absurd and shows that you did not put much thought into what you said. ArenaNet cares for new players because they don’t have a monthly subscription, therefore most of their income comes from the initial purchase.

There’s been many threads already on doing a Kickstarter to persuade ANet to add X to the game.

The game isn’t suffering financially except in comparison to WoW, in which case all MMOs are suffering. Trailing twelve months has the game’s income at $95 million US. That would have been equivalent to a subscription game with 1/2 a million players. No too many MMOs in the days of subscription based MMOs had that many. Even now EVE “recently” passed that figure.

I apologize then if this seems like a rehash of previous topics on kickstarters. I don’t patrol the regular GW2 discussion forums often. Perhaps the kickstarter funds could be used to hire a team dedicated to that specific content? It just seems to me that if not suffering from financial problems then understaff problems seem to be the issue here. The main problem I have with how things are being run here is lack of frequent updates and well presented but short/shallow content updates.

Unless they were prepared to make utterly transparent statements about what exactly this would be funding, I wouldn’t be interested.

I agree completely 100% for something like this that requires much trust on the part of the consumer (player) there would need to be no “maybes” “Sometime in the future” or “possibly”. Everything that would be developed with the funds would need to be evident, concrete, and a report on what exactly the funds would be used in what ways.

Alright I will start this discussion by pointing out they are already providing fairly high quality, consistent Living Story updates. However I would not be the first to ask ArenaNet to bring in Cantha or Elona from the GW1 universe.

So since we have seen people get a few hundred K to make a freaking baked potato salad how about we get a kickstarter for GW2 going?

It’s completely voluntary and is a great way to support the devs if you don’t want to pay for gems because some stuff is trash etc. And you still aren’t paying for a monthly subscription.

So what would this mean? Well if enough was raised an actual expansion pack could be released along with the current Living Story. Not only that but perhaps (Throwing a bone to the PvP portion here) we could have some more frequent balancing changes to professions?

To finish I think that if ArenaNet were to start a Kickstarter fundraising event it would be very effective. And would please both the company and the playerbase so they can know they are contributing to a game that, despite and amount of QQ, they still love.

(Disclaimer if any previous attempts at a kickstarter for GW2 have been initiated I have no prior knowledge so please go easy on the derogatory terms)

Well I remember enjoying sword/sword and hammer. Or even rifle. The problem with double swords is that you don’t have any range/CC to keep an opponent at bay. Either of the weapons I suggested would fit that puspose (I prefer dual maces but people think they are garbage so shrug).

Definitely go 5 into arms for the 10% damage on bleed though.
I will set up a good looking build for you. Though is this for PvP or PvE/WvW?

There seems to be a lot of misinformation running rampant in this post so I want to clarify some things.

Riposte blocks all incoming ranged attacks for it’s duration. Riposte can block few melee attacks if they are out of range of the riposte. Think of this functionality like the Rangers GS block.

Both Shield Stance and Riposte can be traited to reflect projectiles. Only the Shield can be traited for shorter cooldowns and extra toughness.

Shield Stance does not root the player when used. Neither does Riposte.

Hope this helps clear up any ignorance.

Basically Berserker gear is gear whose stats are primed towards the three main damage stats. Precision, Power, and Crit damage. Just look for gear with one or more of those stats. Also having a warhorn offhand does not apply the dual wielding bonus to your sword. Personally I like dual maces.

Some people are missing the point of the entire post. Burr King is suggesting that the skill be changed to a teleport to improve functionality, while still retaining the aethetically pleasing look of a Warrior rushing towards the enemy.

Also @ Nark, a gap closing skill used at 600 range is not closing a gap, it’s walking forward. The point of the skill is to close distance and CC a target so you can land some damage.

This type of gameplay already has built in counters as, the farther away you are, the easier it is to dodge as you have longer to act on it. This and CC, blind, Aegis, Teleports/shadowsteps all act against this one skill that has a 45 second CD.

This skill can land, but the risk/reward ratio of it is absurd. The sheer amount of glitches that can happen and the frequency make this skill a liability, not to mention the CD associated with these bugs. Is Bulls Rush a helpful skill? Of course but not with it’s current issues. If you find what I am saying to be wrong then you are simply a delusional bigot.

I’ve avoided it by simply walking towards the player using it, which causes it to either overshoot or they knock you down but are facing the wrong way to follow up before you recover.

this happens when a player is not using autotarget and does not have you selected. of course it goes straight through you, he isnt “trying” to hit you. if he wants to “try” to hit you, he needs to click on you first, or its just going to be a 1200 range dash with a melee single target aoe at the end.

thats why its perceived as unreliable. and its an l2p issue.

judges intervention circumvents this play pattern by requiring a target to be used.

No. You are completely wrong. I have experienced this multiple times and Burr King is correct. I have used Bulls Rush and it DOES overshoot your target even when locked on. It is not a “L2P” Issue it is an issue with the skill not tracking.

On OPs original topic..

There’s quite a few things, at least in my opinion, that need to be seen/implemented before we can expect serious amounts of competition and regular big cash tournaments to pop up. The 150K Boost is a great start, but were still a long way from stable. Going over some of the more polarizing points:

  • Balance: A lot of people like to complain about this and how it impedes this game being good competitively, but to be honest right now, at least at the high tier, the game is probably in one of the better metas we’ve had in a year or more. There’s a decent balance of compositions across the board (you have your Teamplay focused comps like TCG and more individual minded comps like Abjured runs, and a whole mess of other comps teams are running). With that said, there are still quite a few issues with “rage-inducing” builds in low-mid tier play that could be addressed. These issues don’t directly impact the high tier competitive scene obviously, but Ill explain more about how it does affect the overall scene a bit later.
  • Tournament Structuring: This is probably one of the more prevalent issues in the competitive scene at the moment. The issue in the current GW2 PvP scene is that there is no middle ground. You either suck or are top tier. This is mainly due to the extremely volatile ways teams form and attempt to introduce themselves to the competitive scene. There’s no ladder system and due to the highly fluctuated ways the leaderboard tracks individuals, not teams, it’s hard to try and gauge how good a team is based off of leaderboard performance alone. So what do teams do right now to try and raise their rep and skills? They play in the ESL and MP weeklies, but this presents a new problem. Because teams such as Abjured and TCG will play in these cups at all, any new team is essentially getting tossed into the fire because of the complete lack of an ameture scene or a structure to support it. How do we fix this however? Two ways come to mind: the first being a new tournament tier is created for ameture teams, but unfortunately this won’t work right now because the line between “ameture” and “professional” team in Guild Wars 2 is an extremely blurry line and virtually impossible to distinguish. The second way would be to implement a ladder system, which if dev comments over the past year have had any backing to them, should be coming soon.
  • Additional Low-Mid Support: This one ties in from the previous two points. Right now there isn’t much drive for the casual player to actually play the game, and there also a few things that might push them away from PvP currently alive in low/mid-tier solo queue and team queue metas. Ladder/Seasonal system would greatly improve player drive to improve his/herself and his/her ranking in the game, plain and simple. In regards to balance there are a lot of “infuriating” builds, mainly AI ones that I’ve noticed, that tend to push players away from the game more than they encourage them to continue play and improve their skills. While these only affect the low-mid tier games, if people don’t want to play the game to begin with because they are angry at it or have no reason to play, they obviously won’t want to support it’s competitive scene, and without those players to begin with it will be impossibly to garner a competitive scene.
  • More Community Tournament and Team Support: This one is plain and simple. People need to watch and support tournaments as well as teams if they attempt to grow themselves beyond the game. I understand and to some degree agree why people don’t watch some of the qualifiers for ToL/G/etc as well as the weeklies because they, generally speaking, are stomps nine times out of ten. It is important however for people to tune into these streams regardless because it helps collect interest from third parties which could breathe some serious life into the scene. Now hopefully this issue will solve itself once the last bullet point about tournament structure is solved and we have regular matches that aren’t stomps, but up until that point community grown or run events need as much support as can be garnered. The same goes for teams that try to grow themselves via social media, twitch streams, etc.

Those are just my thoughts, lemme know yours.

TL;DR: Create an Ameture Scene, Add Ladders, Increase Low-Mid Tier Support, Support tournaments and teams.

You need to copy this and Paste it where a Developer will actually see it. Very good ideas and observations here

@ Solori

That was not only vague.
It didn’t answer my question.
Maybe i need to revise it?

Where are these placement’s that give you a 1500 range advantage, that has no counters? No way to reliably use terrain or close the distance.

Lets give a scenerio maybe this will help.

The ranger has a capture point.
You see the ranger is now sitting on this point.
What map is there where you cant get to this capture point?

Scenerio two-

You are capturing a capture point.
You see the ranger is coming towards you.

What map is there where you can not LoS or close the distance, before losing this capture point?

This is basically what I am asking

because I haven’t seen a map where anyone can sit 1500 units and keep a point contested.

Ah now I see what you are saying! That was definitely much clearer. To answer your question doing extreme damage at 1500 helps contest the point by providing incredible damage from a safe distance. Think of it like this. You have a bunker at home being swarmed by three people. Said person at 1500 range starts firing upon these three foes, one is downed and finished off by the bunker as the other two react. Bunker holds off one while another splits off to engage, but before that second player can reach he is downed and being killed. Two down and the final person is still in range, you can guess the rest. Line of sight would be a good idea if this was not a Conquest oriented PvP scenario.

@ Solori

Well for starters your question is a bit silly. If there was no way to get up to the Region where it is possible to shoot from 1500, that person wouldn’t be able to get up there anyways. Regardless I will attempt to address your points. Battle of Kyhlo, Forest of Niflhel, and Legacy of FoeFire all have regions where it would be nearly impossible to fight a well placed ranged character. But that’s exactly the problem with Conquest modes when it comes to this strategy. In this situation a person can sit up and take someone down before they have a chance to reach them. It doesn’t matter that they aren’t unreachable. But that they can kill someone before that person can even move towards the threat.

However, and I assume you forgot to read this part, I specifically stated that this kind of intelligent thinking about placement is not to be discouraged. It is simply too effective though, as there are not many counters to someone picking off individuals from a distance. If this was war, I would say get over it. But this is a video game, and everyone’s enjoyment is increased (and hence profits also increase) if the game is fairly balanced. Should the team that puts it’s teams placement into consideration get an advantage over a disorganized team? Absolutely, but not so strong of an advantage as some teams are getting just because they have one person able to attack from such a safe distance.

I think the main problem is people on this forums get so worked into a frenzy. Something is either game-breakingly OP or utterly worthless.. there doesn’t seem to be much room for things to be maybe a little overbuffed or a little overnerfed, it has to be a serious meltdown every time.

I mean the Ranger buff is the most current example… Maybe they did slightly over buff RF. There’s no doubt it’s now much better than it was… But come on, for LB rangers being a game-wide joke to the most OP thing that people are “quitting” over it, just because 2.5s came off the cast time? Please…

Unfortunately this has happened to Warriors and Elementalists. I can’t remember if the other classes have experienced this.

Curious how many people...

No they don’t cancel out, a larger chasm of unbalance is created. I apologize but my question was rhetorical, I assumed the fact that doing so would be absurd would be apparent.

i’ll tell you two things before patch.
this is to not Include full zerker buffs.
LB didn’t need blocking , didn’t need dodging, didn’t need Reflecting.
it was a simple gap close and kill , then with the Really weak short range of Long shot (they had no chance to swap weapons because of a cooldown)
so in the end as soon as a ranger swapped to a LB , it was Charge it and kill (he might get lucky and survive a few more secs with PBS/Hunters shot.

in the end the damage in this Situaton wasn’t enough to get other classes to even consider any Defence praticly none apart from stealth can be ignored since that is mainly a Difent trait of a build or a very short term trick to get a target to loose focus.

if people think that the above was balanced, i realy think some people should think a lot more Deeply, these changes where a Lot more than just a Skill Balance its changed the way we Fight , we Think about combat and even more importantly its but some life back into the combat of the game.

I’m not quite sure if you agree with me or not so I’ll just explain myself a bit more. I have no problems with the current changes to the Ranger class. The only problems I have with Rangers is that currently there are not many counter to a full zerk Ranger traited with Eagle Eye standing on a ledge. However, I would say that this was smart placement on the rangers part, and considering the Ranger is single target DPS it’s not THAT bad. It is still a flaw that a Ranger can remain at such a long distance and do significant damage while not being able to be attacked.

Also I do know how Ranger was pre-patch, and their weakness is still gap closing. But as I’ve seen in multiple threads you cannot really gap close a distance of 1500. I think you are being a little melodramatic with your closing sentence, but whatever suits your tastes I suppose. A grenade Engineer was doing what Rangers are now doing since months ago. The only different is that Rangers are doing it better (which is too be expected) but possibly TOO effectively.

Note: No offence, and English may not be your first language, but you should possibly look into some sort of spell check because your text gets a little indecipherable sometimes.

It’s true but you CAN predict almost exactly what a person is running if you are familiar with that class. For example I mainly play Warrior, so I know most every warrior trait. So let’s say I notice that I attempt to CC a Warrior and it doesn’t affect him, but rather immediately grants him stability, that means that he has gone 4 into Defense, now let’s say that he also has the ability to use Cleansing Ire, He activates Endure pain at 25% health, or every time I crit him he gains retaliation This would mean he actually has invested 6 into Defense. Also let’s say this warrior can swap weapons ever 5 seconds. This would mean that he has gone at least 3 into discipline. That leaves 5 points left to determine stat investment. Those points can be determined by whatever the warrior is using/ any other unique effects the Warrior is exhibiting.

Arcing Slice is not a GS skill, it’s a Burst Skill (“F1”).

Killshot pierces if you have Crack Shot traited.
A short test in Hotm suggests that Burning Arrows increases the damage of Combustion Shot but it wasn’t very thorough.
Maybe someone else can test Merciless Hammer and Sundering Mace.

Either there is a bug with Arcing Slice or with those traits.

Neither Crack Shot, nor Merciless Hammer nor Sundering Mace reduce their weapon Burst skill. I’ll test myself if killshot actually pierces, because I’m not a really trusting soul

None of the traits that affect weapons CD affect the burst skill because there is already a designated stat investment for reducing the CD of burst skills in the Discipline trait line. Kill shot does in fact pierce when traited, please take 5 seconds to test this in Heart of the Mists before stating that you have not in fact actually taken the time to research your own opinions.

[BUG] Arcing Slice

Posted by: bobomb.5209

bobomb.5209

Also, by that logic, these skill should also be affected by CD reduction traits.

it is only random when some traits affect others dont and only a part of the trait affects it.

Plenty of weapons bursts are affected even if their burst time isn’t shortened.
Sharpened axes, Axe Mastery, Crack shot, Burning Arrows, Sundering Mace, Merciless Hammer.

And even traits that only affect the damage output of the player if certain conditions are met affect the burst skills. Examples, Dual Wielding, Stick and Move, Berserkers Power, Unsuspecting Foe ( increases the critical chance), Attack of Opportunity, Cull the Weak, Desperate Power, Empowered, Destruction of the Empowered, Burst Mastery, Heightened Focus.

Some of those traits are meant for burst skills while others are just modifiers if certain conditions are met, All of them affect burst skills except for this one case. Arching slice is not affected by the proper trait, this is a bug because it goes against the design of literally every other weapon at the warriors disposal.

As for your point about the traits affecting the CD of burst skills. This is clearly negated by the fact that Burst Recharge is given a clear stat by the Discipline Trait line
