Oh dear, thanks for the warning.

For those doing the design contest, perhaps don’t use the -whole- template space for the axe head, not if you want to see people using your weapons in the game

It’ll probably be fine in the main hand, but still…

All they need to do is rotate the wrist a little on that idle animation. Will it happen? Most likely no.

Gw2 player burnout, PvE gold Grind

This is a low intensity farm that will get you around 30g a day and takes around 2 hours.

I can get that with about two hours in Sparkfly Fen gathering Hard Wood and Plat. I usually show up in the map about an hour before Teq and this gives me time to hit all the nodes. After the Teq fight the map will start to collapse (Few players remaining on this map…) and after transitioning to the new map all the nodes are back plus the rich nodes (minus the unique ones you can only get once a day), so I spend another hour hitting all the nodes.

Having the Watchwork Mining Pick definitely adds 3-5 gold to the daily total.

Okay, thanks for the input. Back to the drawing board, I guess. I have enough laurels and gold to restat whatever I need to, so no big deal.

I don’t have HoT yet as I’ve been waiting for this new PC build as I was afraid the requirements might be a little more harsh and my poor brick has hard enough time already. I’ll pick it up when it goes on sale, but I’m not paying full price after all the criticism I’ve heard on these forums about it.

I started this warrior at launch as board and sword, and have been through many different builds since. I’ve settled on this build just for the fun and versatility in PVE but I’m wondering what to expect in Wvw (I’ve never done any PVP).

That +98 Bleed duration comes in handy when I have to bola, roll back and switch to the bow to drop some conditions of my own. Also, those crits…my crit rate is even better than listed against a bleeding foe.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vJEQNAsXTjMdQXHW4BOeAnIG6BMtNE+CD3LsFs9sAQBIBA-TxTAABEqHYH1fU4EAImSjHMBJjGibVC2wBEAgHEQP7PI9RAIfNIfpMikDBwWKRCAcAMchDAfP8y7OcA-e

I’m building a new PC right now that will finally be able to handle WvW, so let me know if I need to do any tuning. I don’t really know what to expect.

The best weapon skins in the game are the Black Lion ones. I already have ascended weapons and see no need to grind for a legendary when I’m just going to put a BL skin on it, anyway.

I’m actually not fond of the legendary skins at all. Some of them, like Bolt, are just tacky. The others aren’t much better.

I’m not budging on “Will everyone please put on his or her jacket?” “Their” just isn’t right.

I’m not sure about that one. ‘Their’ is for plural use and in the above statement, it would read there exists only one jacket shared by many and owned by one person of an unidentified sex.

I think what you really mean is “Will everyone please put on his or her own jacket?”

:P

We got it down succinct here in the south: “Ya’ll get yer jackets on, now.”

Making main-hand sword work

in Warrior

Posted by: brokenrabbit.6538

brokenrabbit.6538

As said above, sword is a hybrid, and so therefore the warrior using it must be. I’m a sword-and-board guy myself for almost every RPG I play, ever. As I’m doing PvE almost exclusively in this game, I have no common need for the shield so it’s usually regulated to my bag.

I’ve been playing the past couple years maining with a sword/axe build, and here’s what I’ve found works:

Strength: 133
Arms: 133
Discipline: 232

My sword and axe (ascended) are both +90 Precision +90 Toughness +125 condition damage. I have Superior Sigil of Agony on sword and Superior Sigil of Corruption on the axe. I have a full set of speed runes on my armor. My ascended rings and trinkets mix maxing condition damage and precision.

This build is good for: direct damage, crit , speed (in and out of combat, but especially when enemy is <50) and a good bit of bleeding damage (and extra damage on a bleeding foe). You’ll crit more than your % states because of the bleeding with this build.

However, this build leaves you open to conditions yourself, so I deal that with the bow. I get to lose a condition when I switch weapons, and then on the bow I have Superior Sigil of Malice (for the burning) and Superior Sigil of Purity (to remove conditions).

The Bolas (7) come into play quite a bit. When soloing champs, the usual fight plays out as gain adrenaline, switch to bow, stop him with the 5 shot and follow up with 3, 4 then throw bolas then F1 a fire field, switch to sword/axe jump in with 2 (for the fire effect) then hit him with 5 (for the pew pew pew), 4, 3 if <50%, roll back and switch to bow, repeat.

For common mobs the sword is great for cutting a path and the axe for combos with the bow or cc.

There are times when I have to run away and having savage leap remove immobilize really helps here, as does all that speed.

As long as you can control the conditions applied to you and you know when to roll out and go ranged, this is a fun and survivable build. The only time I have trouble is when conditions come so fast I run out of options to remove them. But in PvE, this really only ever happens in the occasional dungeon, and I’ve usually got friends with me then who offer some support by way of condition control.

Easy Teq is cheese. He gets 1 real attack phase and then it’s just chain burn till win.

So few rifle classes...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: brokenrabbit.6538

brokenrabbit.6538

Problems with these weapons is that bows are nearly always superior to rifles and thus used over rifles when able. .

I use a rifle on my warrior over a bow. It’s most especially useful when soloing champs, as I can use a combination of Aimed Shot, Rifle Butt, Savage Leap and Bolas to keep them slow and away from me.

Throw bolas, rolling back and following Brutal Shot with the Kill Shot burst and then Volley, then rolling in using Whirling Axe to quickly recharge adrenaline while Bolas recharge, rinse and repeat.

I haven’t been able to adapt to the bow so well, it just doesn’t fit my playstyle. But you’re talking to a Sword/Axe warrior, I don’t exactly play the meta.

3. He has both front legs and wings. That makes no sense.

Dragons are as such, having four limbs AND wings. Drakes are the ones with their foreclaws on their wings, like Smaug in Peter Jacksons Hobbit.

Smaug was supposed to have also 4 legs and wings. Tolkien himself made sketches of Smaugh, like the one titles Conversation with Smaugh and Death of Smaug

In those, Smaugh is seen having both wings and arms. That is not made-up. Tolkien himself did draw that.

But keep in mind that Smaug was not a ‘true’ dragon. It was something made by Morgoth, not something that evolved naturally in their own world. So the dragons of Middle Earth were once something like lizards. Which would explain the elongated bodies compared to the most common depictions of dragons as having large, robust, bull-like torsos.

Most of what you see in that film is made-up nonsense.

And although there’s not ‘official’ naming used, what you’ll see more often in fantasy is this:

  • Dragon. General umbrella term. Generally 4 legs and wings, but it may be with no wings or with no forearms or no legs.
  • Wyrm : Old and powerful dragon.
  • Wyrmling: Young dragon.
  • Wyvern: Distant relative of dragons. Not as intelligent as sentient creatures. Generally has their forearms as wings, so they only have 4 limbs, and sometimes with a mace-like tail with spikes or a scorpion stinger.
  • Drake: Another distant relative to dragons. Even less intelligent than wyverns. Generally wingless.

But in different fantasy settings they may use them in other ways. GW2 has some roots on D&D, so they use the terms in a way quite similar to D&D.

Oh, I know Smaug was SUPPOSE to be a four-limbed dragon, that’s why I specified PETER JACKSONS Hobbit, and yes he really screwed it up.

I’m using the European heraldry definitions of Drake/Dragon. Drake has hind legs and wings, a dragon has four legs plus wings.

I rarely get a gold drop now, and I haven’t got an exotic from a champ chest since forever. Did they change the drop rates when they killed the champ trains?

I’m sitting at 149% base MF right now, and I get far more golds off Skelks and freaking Skritt than I do from champs. Kinda the reverse of what it should be, isn’kitten

The flopping-in-your-face logical solution to this would be to have the stacks removed when you go underwater and returned in full when you surface. As this solution is so obvious, there must be some limitation on the game engine itself that prevents its implementation.

Why Guild Wars 2 is the most 'Square' world

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: brokenrabbit.6538

brokenrabbit.6538

Hmmm .. not that i really have a problem with th squares .. but this looks different.

On the other hand RIFT also had a “seamless” world, and not closed zones like we
have in GW2.

Guild Wars 2 isn’t trying to present a seamless world, though. The individual maps in GW2 should be thought of as separate but related paintings perhaps by different artists. Hell, watch how the moon changes from one map to the next…there’s simply no visual agreement there.

GW2 goes all-out for the painterly effect (just look at the edges of the screen) so why not a square canvas?

Not really my point though. My point was the success of WoW made that model the most prevalent. If WoW hadn’t been as popular as it was, other types of games might still be around…and yes Eve is the exception to the rule.

WoW was just a more polished EQ. WoW may be more popular than EQ ever was but back in the day EQ drew in some (for then) impressive numbers.

It’s the EverQuest model everyone uses now. Too bad the sandbox types like UO didn’t have a lasting influence, because a level-less, skills-based system like UO has so much untapped potential.

Welcome to 2015.
Where MMORPGs are less and less about role play what it once used to be.
Sure some people still force the role play but the game itself does not encourage it.
Most MMOs today are quasi-single player games with a set story and course of events.
Once you are through with this there is instanced PvP and grinding score points of some sort.

(snip)

I’ve been MMOing since UO beta, and RPers have ALWAYS been a tiny, tiny minority. What is this golden era you speak of?

If you want to properly RP it isn’t going to happen in a video game anyway. Find a DM near you and start collecting dice.

I don’t think he’s talking about actual RPing. RPGs exist without people RPing in them. He’s talking about immersion. There was a time when the ultimate goal of games wasn’t chasing loot around in circles. I know because I was there.

Repeating the same raid over and over again to get specific gear wasn’t what RPGs were about and RPGs didn’t always mean RPing.

The only things that come close to what you are describing in my experience are MOOs (kinda like MUDs but more focused on RPing and world building). Even in UO everyone was min/maxing.

EQ, DAoC, AC, AO…they were all about chasing the new carrot. In fact I’d say the only truly unique MMO community is Eve Online considering how heavy intra-game politics factor into actual gameplay and your relationships with people.

Give me a fantasy MMO where politics are as important as they are in Eve Online and I don’t care if there’s a sub, I’m there.

Why do you want laurels then? I don’t understand people who want virtual rewards, that only exist in a game they have no other interest in playing.

The two minis. I’m PVE only so it took me awhile to get enough laurels for all the rings, accessories and infusions. Now I’m working toward the minis.

Not sure what’ll be my motivation after I get those, maybe I won’t have any and will take a break until some substantial content comes out.

But then, you’ll have the minis and won’t be playing the game to enjoy them. It’s a weird thing people do. I know players who have run themselves ragged in game trying to get a legendary, for instance, but then quit pretty much as soon as they finally got it.

But yeah. From my perspective, if I were you, a change that stopped me pointlessly doing something I didn’t really enjoy would be a good thing. Nothing wrong with taking a break

I didn’t mind the dalies when I could decide how I wanted to accomplish them, and since I needed to go somewhere to get it done, I could always work some other goal into it and not just be out there ‘doing my daily’.

Now, with the new system, dailies are so kitten ed specific and scattered you can’t really do them while accomplishing something else simultaneously. You’re either doing something else, or doing your daily. It went from being a reward for playing the game to a kitten ed chore. I’m a 38-year old adult, I have enough chores already.
