Brilliant showcase of the awesome combat system in GW2. With enough skill behind the keyboard this SHOULD be possible in an MMO. GJ.
Yea dodging CnD is the dealbreaker. I can manage decent with 1 miss or so but 2 misses and I’m pretty much forced to run. I run a condition thief though so I have extra ini from trickery and shadow refuge.
I would say condition thief. I run a P/D and shortbow with caltrops and can cap points insanely fast. Almost never die nowdays, had a 4 hour sPVP session last week with like 1 death. It’s SOOO much better than buirst builds.
Use condition duration runes and go deep into trickery. Use caltrops on dodge and the caltrops skill. I had alot of fun with that build today, got 27 kills and 10 caps, around 550 points. Best game I had so far, also won 2 tournaments with PUG’s.
For me as a thief Guardians is the hardest class to kill, mesmer is close second. I run a condition build but you guys seem to full heal all the time, can’t get you down :/
Just use your heals and wear the thief down, clutch dodges are good too. BS thiefs are gimmicky, just survive the initial burst and its autowin
- Deadly Arts increases Power and Condition Duration, specializing in Venoms in particular.
I actually prefer Acrobatics over Deadly Arts for a lot of situations. Acrobatics lends itself to Might stacking, which can be a potent way to boost your conditons and, IMO, has better traits as well. You’ll miss out on the awesomeness that is Trickery’s Utility Steal + Deadly Art’s Damage Steal.
Hmm, doesn’t might give +power which is useless for condition? Only condition damage boosts your damage? Or am I wrong?
I agree, bleeds should not be removed when a player is downed, it’s just stupid. O hey look I just fell over and magically a condition remover appeared and cleansed me :P

Does anyone know if there are any other glowing daggers than the Ghastly ones from AC? And does Ghastly glow during daytime now also?
I don’t believe any of the other daggers glow. A lot of them have different effects, like the CoE ones have sparks of electricity running along them, and the Corrupted Daggers give off a frosty aura.
As for Ghastly during the day, no they don’t. I wish they did because they look bland without it.
Ahh Corrupted are the ones I’m looking for, looks awesome. Are they crafted in MF? Any1 know the recipe?

A mesmer can hit you with 15k+ damage from ranged. All of the attention needs to be directed towards the most OP class in the game. Secondly look at bunker guardians for tPVP. Thiefs are fine, i’ve switched to a bleed build and haven’t been killed by backstab or heartseeker in over a week of non-stop sPVP andWvWvW.
Hope this is a troll post, i’m a rank 30 sPVP thief and a skilled mesmer beats me 9 times out of 10. Best class in the game by faar. Got hit with 15k damage just yesterday.
Mesmers are the real problem in sPVP. Their burst is far superior to thiefs.
Warriors are fine. Bunker guardian and maybe tone down thief burst.
Rangers, ele’s, necros and engi’s needs buffs though.
Nice with a 5v5 hotjoin, they actually do listen to feedback.
What is the /rank command excatly? Can you get rankings buy normal hot join 8v8 and 5v5 or is that only for paid tournaments?

50% means half by the way. And Backstab does, not always crit for 14k. Probably can’t even crit for 14k with the Assassin’s Signet change. the most common is 11k -12k on another theif doing the same build or an ele or a very squishy necro or warrior. That damage cut in half. Do the math buddy. C&D crits for like 5-7 on a squish warrior necro. Mug Doesn’t need to be removed, the thing that increases it to 1,200 range needs to be.
There is a trait in the Trickery tree, that makes it a 1,200 range and makes it far hard to notice the thief is blowing all his CDs.
Pro Tip: Utilities are not on the same GCD with your main abilities GCD and already C&D is not a the same GCD with steal.
Backstabs usually crit around 6-8k on ppl with full exotic. I hit an upscaled toon today for 10.4 K that’s my record hit since patch, he might have been a lvl 30 or something who knows.
Hell they might even nerf it further, might even remove backstab. All I know is that they listen 100% to the QQers. Noone is talking about mesmers doing backstab damage with every hit from an illusion.
I agree some classes need buffs, mostly ele’s, rangers and necros though. Warriors, Guardians and mesmers are alot stronger than thiefs.

As I see it, thiefs have a couple of days of playtime left before it’s time to reroll.
Anet have shown that they listen to excatly ALL the QQ about the thief class so i’m expecting massive nerfs to all thief builds.

That will render all burst builds except maybe S/D and S/P somewhat useable. It will also make condition thiefs pretty bad as they rely on stealthing alot.
Hopefully ranger’s get some love so we have a fun class to reroll. As it stands now rangers are free kills.
WvWvW needs ALOT.
- Realm ranks
- Darkness falls type dungeon
- Leaderboards for individual players and servers
- More meaningful things to buy for badges
- Reworked maps with different layouts (no borderland should look the same)
- ALOT more emotes so we can atleast communicate alittle bit with our opponents.
- More side objectives beside keeps and camps.
It was more ready than any other MMO i’ve played at release. I only noticed a couple of bugged DE’s and some minor stuff except the trading post (which I didn’t need in the beginning).
So ppl still crying of thiefs.

-Assassins signet nerfed, BS NOT a problem anymore.
Except maybe some culling problems and stealth tweaking I do not see a problem with the thief. I have a much harder time fighting Guardians, warriors and mesmers.

Are you serious? This game is NOTHING like diablo. The combat is completely different and diablo is a loot based game that requires zero combat skills.
Wrong. 100b is alot easier to pull off. Try again.
Alot of classes can do high damage to glass cannons. When ppl learn that a mix between defence and offence is the way to go these crazy hits will dissapear, if you run a glass cannon build expect to get hit hard.
So with your logic every class that can hit hard on zero defence should be reworked. Sooo, rework warriors, ele’s, guardian ….. Or every class there is. A bunker can hold off 3 ppl on his own for quiet a while, rework bunker classes?
Anyone tried finding a way over that bridge? I assume the portal is dead but who knows

WvW, world completion, sPVP and tPVP. Alooooooot to do
I tend to agree about melee being hard in dungeons. But everything else is a step up for me. To be really successful you should use combo fields and finishers. I think the explorable paths do require having to think.
I played mostly CoF for gear but the paths have some really fun mechanics. One room when you have to take turn kiting mobs while NPC fixes the door or whatever.
Aggro shouldnt be used at all, you should never feel safe, it’s a bad mechanic, in other hotkey mmo’s I NEVER felt threatened, the healer and tank took care of me.
2. No no no no please. You get 10 points for taking over a point, 10 points for defending. So what’s your point? (pun intented)

2. Thats personal opinion, mesmers and thief are fine atm, I feel that the balance is pretty good (needs smaller tweaks though). Camping jumping puzzles is valid because of the amount of siege plans you get from the chest.
3. Melee works in dungeons, it’s just alot harder. Kinda agree with you there though.
4. The TP is across ALL servers, ofcourse green items will be dirt cheap.
5. What do you mean, most of the crafted stuff is BOE.
I don’t understand this complaint at all, they made it more difficult because you actually have to move and get out of the way, you can’t depend on a tank to eat all the damage. Finally we have to pay attention and actually play the game instead of headbutting our keyboard.
To the comment about other Action-combat MMO’s: Personal preference really, TERA roots you in one place, I like moving around.
If I would change one thing about GW2s combat it’s implementing active shielding, was great in AOC. For example if a boss is attacking me from the front I can put my 3 shields there and block 50% damage. If a thief in PVP is trying to backstab me I can move all 3 shields to the back etc etc.
I disagree. The combat system in place isn’t perfect but compared to other current MMO’s it’s a BIG step up. I feel that dungeons involve alot of strategy. Good players will not die even once while lesser players/pugs will die alot. In beta I heard about groups who cleared AC without a single death. My group died around 50 times the first run through.
Feels great as a DPS to be able to help teammates, give me alot more purpose. I really have to observe what the other players are doing to set up the right combo field. This is even more true in PVP.
Even though they hit hard you can almost always avoid taking damage. LOS, dodge roll or a teleport skill for example.
If you want to play healing whack-a-mole or stand in one place pressing a taunt skill there are plenty of other games to choose from.
Was this the last act? If so, what’s the reason for doing act 1 and 2 when ppl who haven’t done them still can enter mad king dungeon?
Same here, healing skill and refuge seem to work though but cloak and dagger don’t.
Seems like most ppl on FS have stopped going to WvWvW. Logged in this morning and found maybe 1 or 2 FS players in EB. This is really really boring, WvWvW is the only thing I do in the game and now that’s disabled for me…
Disagree with everything said in this thread. Sure I miss some stuff that they will probably add later but I love the skill based pvp, I can 1v2, 1v3 ppl in both sPVP and WvWvW.
Solo roaming in WvWvW gets you ALOT of 1v1 fights, just get behind enemy lines and start searching. Or go down to jumping puzzle.
Best pvp since DAOC. No other games should be mentioned, they all failed at PVP. Most notably WOW.
ps. that lineage vid looked terrible, dont’ get me started on the game itself, one of the worst.
Are you talking about the big fire boss that spams aoe and has alot of adds? To me thats the hardest boss in the game, atleast when I tried it at lvl 30.
Yeah condition is really lackluster, 120 damage per tick? Laughable.

I think mine is actually slightly better, still getting horrible performance in WvW and LA though. Reached over 100 fps in PvE zones. Dips under 10 fps in WvW zergs.

Easy as. All you get is a dumb big book that floats on the back of your armor and grants near to no bonuses.
No money, no karma, no exp. Just a big dumb book.
Thats just act 1, OP is talking about the end reward in the last act if i’m not mistaken.
Wierd I thought P/D was the best for cond builds.
If the implement a ladder system I will never touch PvE again. And my social life would be ruined forever :P
So youre saying that 15% more damage is less than +60 power? Come on, you can do better than that..
Turn of auto attack. Ctrl+right mouse button. Always play like that, auto attack is really really bad. Screws up alot of things.
As topic states, anyone tried the new mini-dungeons or DE’s?
