So let me just start out by saying I don’t claim to be pro or try to run meta pro builds. I’m a decent casual engi at best. I’m also not the quickest player when it comes to wvw or pvp so I really love it when I put together a build that gives me that perfect amount of mobility and survivability. Some say it might be over kill with all my panic button abilities, but it’s what I do and what I have a decent amount of success with. I’m just curious if there are any other overly cautious roamers out there running similar builds.

It’s not too terribly different then most SD builds. It’s actually a modification of the one posted on Wolfineer’s outstanding engi page.
Survival tools:
I have a leaping disengage (rocket boots), a nice block (gear shield), 2 stealth options (toss elixir S and cloaking device) 2 invulnerability (elixir S and self regulating defenses), 2 reliable knock backs (overcharged shot and heal turret detonation). I may even go for a third invulnerability if i switch out privateer runes for vampirism runes.
Damage tools:
Aside from rifle and it’s amazing off the top damage your damage will also come from of course static discharge as well as prybar and hell I sometimes just use toolkit #1 for fun.
Like I said it’s not meta but it’s me and I have fun with it. Just thought I’d share.

I’ve never seen this subject addressed here before, but I was doing some testing last night with my bomb heal suit and it appears that the radius of the heals given off by elixir infused bomb trait is directly affected by forceful explosives trait that increases bomb radius. I had always wondered about this if the heal radius shared the same radius as the bombs themselves or acted on their own. Anyone else ever tested this?
I vote they just put stability on toolkit when equipped so I can run the true melee engi I’ve ways wanted……
K thanks for the clarification. I normally don’t run condi builds. I think I’ve opted for more condition damage stat over duration. Like I said with so many sources for burns it’s incredibly easy to apply plus I rather like having 2100 condi damage before sigil stacks.
So I’m running a build primarily focused on burns and was just curious as to how important condi duration is for burns since they don’t stack in intensity only duration. We have so many sources for burning that application really isn’t the problem. My question is this. When condi duration food/runes/sigils etc.. are applied , does it just drag out the same damage as before just over a longer period of time.? Or are higher burn ticks achievable with a shorter duration?
Been using bunker down in my power bomb healing group build and it has increased my damage output phenomenally. Swapped out my cleric accessories for precision accessories and run precise sights with sitting duck and its aoe vulnerability mayhem.
Is there a way to turn off all tags except your groups tags? I play a bomb healing support engi and I’m just finding it difficult amongst the sea of red names to provide adequate support to my group mates for blasting water fields and bomb heals. Any tips?

Interesting build. I’ve tried a couple of times to make a gadget build to no avail, but this looks promising. I’d like t see video of you displaying your talents with this build.
Tid bit of advice on SD builds and wvw in general, never go full glass. Being able to be in wvw and getting the full effect(stats) of armor/weps/food/oil you can greatly increase your survivability or severely hamper it if you do or so not spec full glass. Full glass and you’ll never be able to take more than 1v1. Hybrid and you can take 2v1 or more depending on your targets builds/prof/skill level…
Also you actually don’t need to go into firearms to have an extremely powerful/sustainable SD build. Keep in mind that we have minimal stun breaks/stability/condi cure so we have to spec Into defense to not be an easy bag. It all comes down to personal preference in the end but just wanted to add some food for thought.
This is exactly what ive been racking my brain over for the past 24 hours. Although I love the SD build im full zerker atm which makes me very squishy. Id like to rework my build a little for more sustain but keep the SD aspect of it. Is there a way still achieve high SD crit numbers but have decent tough and vitality as well? I currently have 3 exotic suits. apothecary, cleric, and zerker. the utility skills id like to use are rocketboots which I love for the mobility, toolkit for defense as well as offense, and eilixir S for both defense stealth as well as offensive stealth positioning. I know these utilities are optimal for SD procs bc they don’t necessarily have low toolbelt cds, but id like to try and make it work. I also love bombs and nades but might be killing my defense too much by taking either one of them. So would a mix of my current suits work for this or should I go for another suit all together. not sure on a trait set up for this yet either, as long as I have 30 in tools and 10 in alchemy the rest is trivial to me. any advice would be greatly appreciated and thanks.

You aren’t extreme squishy, still have some power/crit chance, can super speed-rocket jump every 20 sec (or change kit refinement for power wrench) and change the first major inventions trait for more defensive utility.
I guess the 10 in alch isn’t a must, the main reason I was doing it was to get the elixir b at 75 health and the elixir S at 25 health for some extra survivability.

After running Tanky builds pretty much since beta, I have put together a zerker suit and have been experimenting with SD builds. I love the high risk high reward play style. Its a bit of fresh air and a much needed break from my other builds, but was curious as to what some of my fellow engineers strategies and build set ups for SD might be. I know every engi prefers something slightly different then the next so with this thread I’d like to welcome any of you to post your strategies, builds, thoughts, videos……basically anything SD build WvW related. Hey guys needing a little gear help. I’m finishing up my dire/rabid suit ankitten eeding a back slot with rabid stats. The only rabid ones I can find are just rare. Needing something exotic or higher. Back slots are a little funny to search on the black lion so do any of u guys know by name some nice ones to look for? Thanks in advance.

your not getting me, its part of your creation, im an engineer, engineers have the option of getting a backpack, the backpack is unequipable I believe. I did not chose said backpack and I would like to, thus the question at hand.
for anyone that has bought a full makeover from the gem store, are u able to change your starter item like the guardians shoulders, or the engineers backpack or is that something that is unchangeable?
So I finished up my apothecary suit and build last night using perplexity runes along with hydro and energy sigils. I’m also using master tuning crystals and rare veggie pizza for consumables. My heal power is only roughly 1181 , condition damage is only 1118 as well as power only being 1117. Is there any way to up my heal power and condition damage from there? My accessories are all apothecary and all exotic minus the back slot which I could not find apothecary so I had to get rabid. I’ve been out of the game for a bit so I’m a little new to some things like ascended gear. Is there ascended accessories that will yield me higher condition damage and heal power than exotic? Thanks in advance for everyone’s much appreciated advice.

Just need some gear advice for a 30/0/30/0/10 solo roaming bomb healer Tanky engi. Thought about going for some p/t/v gear but am curious to know if apothecary or clerics set of exotics would be better. I like being Tanky with high hp and high tough but I fear I won’t have enough killing power that’s why I was considering a clerics set or apothecary set. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Splashtop streaming gw2 on my iphone is actually really smooth even killing mobs. There’s just no game pad feature for splashtop for phones just tablets so it makes moving pretty difficult. Just wondering what a good tablet would be for this.
I’ve seen some videos of people remote streaming GW2 and other mmos on tablets using splashtop. Was just curious if any other players out there have tried this with any success. I wouldn’t dare attempt to remote stream play pvp, but some simple questing should t be a big deal. If any of you have tried this, what would be some good tablets to do this on?
I don’t claim to be a pro nor do I usually put my builds up on the forums, but since the patch I’ve been testing just like we all have and tried a build I have tried before but it just seems a lot more viable now. Perhaps its the reworking of the traits or maybe just the fact that everyone else is testing as well and that may be the cause for the sudden success of this build for me. Not sure if there is an up to date builder or not so ill just type it out. I’m currently running 10/10/30/20/0. I use pistol pistol. Slot skills are elixir gun bomb kit and flamethrower heal turret and supply drop. In explosives i take the bomb radius trait. In firearms I take fire forged trigger (Really like the fact that trait is tier 1 now). In inventions I take cloaking device extra supplies and elixir infused bombs. In alchemy I take acidic coating and backpack regenerator. I have only tried this in spvp solo que so not sure about its wvw viability. I’m using shaman amulet and nightmare runes. Haven’t decided on sigils yet. The bulild has 3 sources of blind, that combined with your three ground targeted heals, heal turret and heal bombs makes it pretty durable. You also have the aoe knock ago from FT 3 and the run speed from E-gun 2 for when blinds are down. Bombs eat melee alive. If you start to get ranged cycle through your ranged abilities but its important to keep weakness on them all the time. The new buff to weakness makes E-gun pretty kitten nice in my opinion. Anyways this just my 2 cents. Sorry for any typos I’m doing this on my phone at work. Tinker on Engineers!

Yes I forgot to clarify. My testing has been with medkit and only medkit. I thought I had stumbled across something amazing that would essentially allow us to blow our main heal 3 times b4 death. The traits may work conjunctively with elixir H or HT, but not with medkit.
Been testing these two traits tonight and both work individually with only one trained at a time, but when both traited at once only one will go off or hell maybe both are going off at the same time which is dumb and pointless. Either way you should be able to trait both of these and one go off then next time health reaches necessary amount the other should fire, but they’re not. Just wondering if this is working as intended or would it be OP if it work like I think it should. Maybe this is a bug that has already been stated on here if so, sorry for the redundancy. Anyone else ever pondered this?
We have tons of escape routes. I’ve used supply crate to escape lots of times the aoe stun is priceless. Another escape method is toss elixir S not to mention just normal elixir snow I know the invis is not 100%reliable but its saved my kitten enough that I know its worh it. Big ol bomb works wonders to blow up a trailing Zerg as well as just dropping glue shot or glue bomb. If I’m running flamethrower the aoe knock back is great. If I’m running E gun the self knock back is great. Hell just tanking it up with shield 4 followed by gear shield works wonders. In reality we have probably more get always then most classes.
Ok troll ill bite. First off if your complaint is legit, please come back with a little more info about your situation like what your build is. Wvw? Pve? Spvp? I don’t do very much pve but I do quite a bit of hotjoin spvp and a lot of solo roam wvw and the engi is not broken by any means at all. Learning curve is steep so if you think u can level one up and rofl stomp 100blades everyone your wrong. Take time to learn the class and learn the other classes so u can counter them. Otherwise u just look like a moron not backing your claim/request with any additional info. Engineer does not suck and as much as u don’t want to hear it u need to learn to play. Sorry bud.

Engi not for 1v1 roaming? Psshhhhh, ill take a mcguiver tool for any situation engi over any of those flavor of the month classes for solo roaming. I’d say 95% of my wvw time is solo roam and I do quite well. Used to run tankcat now kinda tankcat hybrid. 0/30/0/20/20 flamethrower toolkit and elixir s and its not uncommon to smoke 2v1. My beloved Tankineer crushes thieves and silly 100blades warriors. Just my 2 cents engi’s rise up!!!
Thx Mask, I should have tested it more. I just know it happened a lot and I always seemed to die right after, but lets all be honest when we throw elixir s were never really hoping for stability are we? Me being a norn engi (and the largest norn body size) stability made me Godzilla and not in a good way so if this is the case I’m glad they changed it.
FYI since the update throw elixir s seems to be bugged. I throw it nothing happens and it goes on cool down, this seems to be happening roughly 50% of my throws. Just spreading the word and ill be posting it on bug thread.

Don’t see how u can say inventions is useless when fully traited adds quite a bit of survivability to any build. The added toughness alone is very helpful not to mention the invis when immobilized trait, shield cd trait for even more toughness and yes even elixir bombs when combined with backpack regenerator elixir gun and double super elixirs is ridiculous heals and survivability. Yes I agree going in melee range with bombs and build for DMG is not a good idea and even training anything in inventions when your goal is just raw high DMG is a bad idea but to say inventions is useless all together is simply not true when its the core of any good bunker engi.

Yeah maybe I should have been more specific I want my self to be Tanky and durable not necessarily the pet i figure I would need a lot of my DMG to come from the pet
How about pets any specific pets u recommend?
First off I know nothing about rangers spent all my time on engineer but am starting to mess with one in spvp and the mists. Just looking for someone to point me in the right direction as far as traits weapons and pets. Looking for something pretty durable no glass canon i prefer the tankier builds. Thx in advance
