Sad part is there Topic on Ranger balance is to late, not sure anyone wants to wait many month’s for the ranger to updated with 3 major AAA games coming out over next month or 2.

This is true for me. Not that I don’t enjoy GW2, just kinda lost interest since I see no clear direction with my fav class.

Same for me. I still like GW2, but I felt like we reached the end of the iterations on possible builds for Rangers. That and I don’t have much time to play on a PC anymore. I moved on to playing games on my tablet until I see something that would pique my interest like it did before.

Anyway, I’m more interested in the double sigil thing than the ranger changes. Particularly, double Sigil of Force for another +10% damage for power rangers.

Can cause the pet to attack the nearest target.

This is caused by having auto-target active. Switch it off and the pet won’t insta-aggro. Having it off also gives the freedom of using Swoop and other leap skills as burst movement.

Also, to contribute to the thread:

  • Pet names revert to Juvenile <pet type> when switched to a different pet, except for the pets that have underwater counterparts. If the underwater pet is named, the land version will remain named as well.

The people here are lemmings. The fact that out of 48 or so posts, maybe 10 of the posters here called BS is alarming.

The majority can’t read, couldn’t see the flaw being presented in the OP, and/or just bandwagoned on the whole ordeal. It’s pitiful.

This is why no one, especially the devs, can take the ranger forum seriously. There’s the objective answer for that.

If you want to have open honest dialogue, step one is to stop BSing and PMSing over everything you think is wrong and articulate that in a manner that isn’t hysterical hyperbole.

You know what’s not going to work? Calling the one with curly hair the worst dev of all that has no intention of balancing GW2.

You know what that might do? Get you banned.

Honestly, preach on.

If Gear stats don’t affect pets, then why is Boon Duration affecting the length of the Boon (as far as the pets applying it to themselves)? Also if Gear Stats aren’t supposed to affect pets, why does the skill itself say and show its affected by the boon duration (as is other F2’s show they are affected by condition duartion)? Still a bug.

I’m guessing he’s referring to the part that the pet’s stats aren’t affected by gear. But you’re right that the display is bugged since the pet’s boon duration isn’t supposed to change with the master’s stats. (did that make sense? o_O)

One interesting use for it is in WvW when solo roaming. When I run around solo with my wolf stowed, people get surprised by a knockdown out of nowhere when they hit me with melee. I picked this up from a WvW video wayyy back demonstrating how to solo-cap camps.

Outside of that, however, I’m just as clueless as you are.

Awesome build with 90% boon duration

Interesting build, definitely the first time I’ve seen anyone go that deep for boon duration. Perma warhorn buffs is definitely something I haven’t seen before, and this looks like a really good support build.

Just a few things: Sigil of Geomancy and Sigil of Energy don’t stack. It might be better to swap out the Energy one to something else like Accuracy (since you really lack the crit chance) or add something else entirely. The extra burn damage sigil comes to mind.

Also, 30% Crit chance (with the perma fury) and Sharpened Edges equates to 19.8% (0.3 * 0.66) chance to bleed per attack. I’m not sure that’s something worth traiting for, and you already have perma swiftness, so swiftness on swap seems redundant. Maybe switch that over to 20 Marksmanship for Spotter (more support & direct damage!), or 30 in Wilderness Survival for Empathic Bond (more survival & condition damage!)

Seriously, you’re already complaining and you haven’t even seen the actual patch notes yet. If you’re basing it on the leak, then it’s severely lacking. J.Sharp mentioned a very vague “There will also be # changes to some of the Ranger weapons.” that isn’t mentioned in those leaks.

inb4 those changes will be nerfs.

If it was +20% condition duration I would be very interested, but this seems a bit underwhelming. Entangle also has a 3/4 activation time, so if the fear triggers instantly, Entangle might miss.

Only if the target is at the very edge of the AoE and they run out of the Entangle AoE

Otherwise, I see it as a very good way to make sure Entangle actually hits, assuming that the Fear is at the start.

I finally got to listen to the pod cast and once again the host seems has some volume trouble. I really couldn’t hear you chopps Here’s a suggestion: use a 4th skype for recording and all 3 connect to that 4th skype. Assuming it’s skype that’s lowering the volume of the host, it should fix the problem

Just because you suck at playing ranger now that you can’t use the most passive build in existence to carry you to victory doesn’t mean the rest of us became bad.

I’ve been doing just fine. Seeing as how, you know, I haven’t been using a kittening spirit build for god knows how long.

Where in “ranger class is not good anymore” made you label him/her for being a “suck player”?

I don’t see it nor anybody else except you.

Just because you don’t use spirit build doesn’t Justify you to Parade ‘just fine’ player you are as Ranger"

In other word, as long Arena.net nerf builds that aren’t "yours’, is “fine and dandy” for you and make the players who played those builds as “suck” players.

Well,

That’s Unjustified and Bias to the Ranger community as a whole.

Uh well seeing as he’s gotta be a bad player to think rangers are bad, there’s this magical build we’ve had from the beginning known as the Trap Build that is VERY strong in this meta still and hasn’t been touched by buffs or nerfs since the game was launched.

Then there’s the Spirit ranger, who is STILL useful, you can’t just play him how you normally do, gotta be more tactical on when you use your spirits than just going “LOLOLOLO” and rolling your face on the keyboard.

And then you know, there’s still the BM bunker build which is a good BUNKER build, is it going to pump out damage? kitten no, but no bunkers really do, just drop the cats and take moas, bam you have so much survivability on your little point (where you can’t possibly be out of range of your moas heal) and have a nice cone daze (possibly two) or aoe protection, as well as AoE vigor.

Then you can also go with a roaming build (like a survival build), which is always useful because it allows you to backcap, and assist allies.

In other words, you have NO kittening idea what you’re talking about, and the spirit master build NEEDED a nerf it was so stupidly passive that i swear to god my dog would be able to play that build and do well if i turned Auto Attack on for him. The ONLY way spirits were nerfed was that you can’t have 100% uptime, other than that it was a buff.

Learn to play before you go around spouting garbage about how a profession isn’t viable in tournies.

Apply cold water to burn(fall).

Secondary: Shortbow vs Longbow

It depends on what your after. The shortbow is a more “active” weapon than the longbow in the sense that you’re really not that far from your target. 900 range is well within the all the gap closer skills so the enemy can get in your face at any time. It can handle being in melee though, so it’s semi fine. You have a dodge, a cripple and a stun, and your damage isn’t affected at all, except losing the bleed if you’re face to face with your target.

The longbow on the other hand, is a distance weapon. You have to be at 900+ range for it to be effective. Being a default 1200 range weapon means its just outside gap closer range so you can still react. Unlike the shortbow, you’re penalized for being within 900 range. But then the longbow has a bit more utility when at 900+ range. First, the obvious: it has 1200 range and can be traited to be 1500. This means you can still hit fleeing enemies a lot longer than with a shortbow. Second is that Barrage is a really nice AoE attack that can trigger your on crit effects. And last, Stealth lasts longer than the dodge on the SB.

In the end it’s up to you to decide. Personally, I love the longbow. I hate that feeling that I’m on a short leash when I use the shortbow :P

I love those as well, I just wish some things would be added to the bow to make then more Aesthetically pleasing combat wise, atm it’s just “I shot a bow! I shot a bow again! Oh look! I shot a bow again!”

You know, it would actually be very interesting if the rangers shot bows instead of arrows…

Just so you know, this forum is extremely negative and what someone sees as “useless,” another sees as “great.” Case in point, this thread, you and the 2 other posts i quoted

ok man… but 2 positive feedback over 13 posts… aren’t so good…
and nothice that A “was partially positive…” and B “was positive only for a single boss in the new living world”… so i don’t think that’s enough. The aim of the sticked thread is to help players to find their build not to make a list of tons of builds half of what are good only for a single thing (not reported in notes) and not optimized (i suppose)… but the thread is yours… i was only trying to help better beginners.

Thing about this forums, any post that contradicts “rangers are kitten” is gonna get a lot of negative feedback. Just look at the best written guides here and they get a lot of flack regardless of content.

I guess I grew numb with it. If you can help me clean up the sticky, it would be really appreciated. Can you point out which builds are obsolete?

Man, i think is better to wait before add a build to the “main” build thread. I think is better to way for users feedback then add it only if the feedback was positive… what’s the sense to add an useless build? (i’m not saying that this build is useless… but no one in this thread gave a positive feedback… ).

I would have to disagree, i am running 100% zerker everything, 30/20/20/0/0 and so far i am about sitting around 70% win rate with the 1v1’s i have come across, with thieves i am about 50% win rate, if the thief jumps me i die, if i jump the thief i have a pretty good chance at winning.

Just going from personal experience in the past few days of running this build.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned but lightening reflexes is good for killing orbs after a pull (LR does damage!). Offhand axe is good for pulling a vision into the pool. Torch is good for orbs too.

I always use my LB to launch them into wells, Vision Corner Pocket!!

Can the visions survive the axe#4 pull? this might be a better option if they’re taking too long to run to you

Yes, it should be double bleed. Patching atm, though so I can’t confirm 100%.

  • Sharpening Stone: Counters will no longer decrement on every attack going, but only on attacks hit, evaded, missed (from blind), or blocked. The buff provided when this skill is activated will now properly display the remaining number of charges.
