Any sort of projectile negation/reflection will completely shut down a glassy power necro without wells.

Hybrid is far better, but still has difficult match-ups in the current meta.

Daggers are lovely tho.

DS4 and 5 go through reflections and projectile blocks, as do marks and those lovely daggers.

I call it hybrid because of (1) celestial amulet, and (2) it has a little bit of everything – conditions, raw dps, burst, stability, corrupt boons, tanky DS, might stacking with sigils, perma +25% movement speed, 3 teleports, 4-5 interrupts, and long range/close range pressure.

I swap out warhorn for dagger sometimes against condi necro/engi/warr.

Warriors usually zerker stance to try to guarantee their hammer combo, so the best counters are stability, cc, or dodging. With my current power build I flash Death Shroud w/Foot in the Grave, then use WH4, 5 and use dagger #2 to regain some health.
I immediately use Dagger #3 when their stance runs out.

In the worst case scenario, just teleport away with flesh wurm.

Condi vs Power (PvP/WvW)

Lich is dead, but imo power necro is still a better choice in spvp and most tpvp matches.

Less pigeonholed into specific utilities so you can have good mobility with flesh wurm/spectral walk, and you won’t be completely neutered by zerker stance warriors, diamond skin eles, automated response engis, etc.

Corrupt boon + Dark Path is godlike vs. most classes.

Warrior matchup is still difficult, but made much easier if you have blinds.

Foot in the grave now works with stomping (without exploit), making it an even more viable option.

The only sad thing is that necro has no defense against the new pew pew rangers that have been flooding the pvp rooms lately. But every other class has a counter to them so we probably won’t see too many in high level pvp.

EDIT: The dagger auto-attack AoE changes are great, as well as the small buff to my warhorn. But can anyone comment on the Axe changes? I’ve never been a fan of it, even tho it’s supposed to be great for power necro.

Necro in PvE is meh, but you can faceroll 99% of PvE content with any class…however Necro is in a great place in pvp!

MM necro is stupidly easy to play, but quite boring in my opinion. Try power necro with barbarian amulet in spvp, it is godlike while not being broken like warrior or engi. You can nuke points and even tank for quite awhile with ~50k total hp. And of course there are cond. builds like terrormancer or lifeforce-bunker that you can try as well.

Typical power necro skill chain is:
DS 5 > 2 > 3 > Dagger 3 > Wells > Auto attack
Should be enough to kill most non-bunker specs.

Power necro dagger auto atk sometimes hit over 2k each hit, and Life Blast should be hitting for 3-5k depending on your traits.

I love this idea. This way when I start a new alt that I am entirely unfamiliar with, I will automatically get paired with players who are ranked on average to my main professions rank and I can be an entirely easy stomp for everyone while I figure out how/what/where/when and why of a new professions core mechanics. Genius. Keep the good idea’s coming.

^ This. I’m with you OP, but there needs to be a better implementation so high rank players rolling new alts won’t get kitten d.

And yes, rank does matter. GW2 pvp is all about experience and knowing how to fight with/against all classes. Rank is a reflection of that amount of experience.

Well, if they would implement changes to wells that somehow gives necro more mobility or stability I’m all for it. But I’d rather see them add new skills instead of breaking the niche role that power wells fill in pvp.

Its a buff because you can choose when to apply burning instead of it being random. It does remain to be seen if this proc will be avoidable, or if it will always proc on the first DS#1 that hits.

These are all valid, potential problems, but the point of voice chat would be to culminate a greater sense of community – something that GUILD wars 2 is severely lacking. The goal is to get people to interact cooperatively…There’s little to no motivation to make friends with anyone in pvp, much less form a team.

In LOTRO, DayZ, and even in MMOFPS games there are built-in VC systems that are one of the core features keeping games alive. Sure, there will be trolls and kittens, but that’s what the block/mute button is for. And you could always just turn the VC feature off completely.

The language barriers are unfortunate realities, but it would be no worse than being unable to communicate through team chat…in fact it would be quite entertaining imo.

A well-implemented voice chat system would at least bring some life to the almost dead pvp community.

I’m sure this has been suggested before, but I strongly believe that a well-designed in-game voice chat system would benefit both solo and team queue game modes.

It will introduce a new dynamic into solo queue play, where players will need to form strategies, call targets, teach each other, share builds, work together, rage together, make friends with each other, make enemies, etc. etc…worst comes to worst there’s always the block/mute button.

For team queue it’s more of a convenience factor, so teams don’t have to use 3rd party apps like Mumble, TS, Vent, etc.

Perhaps voice chat could be enabled for party chat in PVE too, but since this is the PVP forum, let’s stick to discussing the pros and cons of in-game VC for spvp/tpvp.

I use almost the exact same build and love it!

I also replaced off-hand dagger with warhorn, the unblockable daze on WH#4 and cripple/swiftness/LF from WH#5 is so good for this build. Plus the Super Warhorn is sexy in its own way

Right now its only saving grace are Runes of Lyssa and Larcenous Strike (very situational). But it is horribly lackluster compared to all other class elites.

Lower the cast time, make it unblockable & immune to stability so that a skillful thief would be able to interrupt bunker heals (like Guardian Shelter).

There is no need for a fix, since it is already counter-productive to stealth in conquest pvp.

It takes more skill for a thief to kill a good bunker than for the bunker to stall long enough for his team to come support.

Possible fix: AoE cap does not pertain to pets/minions/spirits/etc…or put it another way: Maximum AoE targets = 5 players.

Warrior has some of the best counters to thief, because thieves do burst damage, warriors have burst defense (Stances).
Wait for thief to BP > Zerker stance > 8-10 seconds to burst/cc thief.
The only time you should lose to a thief is when you’re on full cooldown…

Sure, you can have it—so would you like that stun on a projectile that moves really slow and can be dodged/reflected or would you prefer it on the projectile that moves really slow and can be dodged/reflected?

It’s quite easy to land in the confusion of a team fight or with the proper immobilize/CC setup, much like a kill-shot warrior or SD engi. But that’s getting off-topic.

Maybe it should turn the enemy into a Basilisk. I’ve come across quite a few Mesmers that would enjoy the courtesy returned.

This is something that I’d actually really like, perhaps make it so that it will activate 10 seconds after it is applied if the thief is not downed to give it some flavor…anything to make this elite feel ELITE and not like just another crappy venom.

Most warriors in pvp nowadays are running with a ton of immobs, which you COULD break with shadowshot in this build, but the initiative cost is kitten high and you will be low because of disable shot spam. I can’t see how to beat a warrior without dps (direct or cond.), a reliable immob. break (like Withdraw, IR, or Shadow Strike), poison, and lots of blinds. They also have immunity to conditions, cc, and damage through their stances, which means squishy thieves NEED to run when those are activated…

I would like to see someone post a build that makes killing a tanky warrior easy, but I doubt it exists. The closest I’ve seen so far is that torment stacking/venom sharing build, but i’ve seen warriors just faceroll through their stances for stability, cond. immunity, and lyssa rune cleanse and its GG

With 1200 healing power the update to the GS trait now adds 24hp per swing, for a whopping total of 49HPS each time you connect with your weapon. If you divide this by the Greatswords attack time, we can increase it to 59HPS. The healing portion of this is still super lackluster, it’s just now less lackluster.

Yeah a good analogy. It was like dying of AIDS. And now its like dying of AIDS, while winning a 10 dollar raffle.

You’re right it does horrible healing if you are auto attacking a single target, so you won’t notice it if you’re dueling 1v1. However, it really shines when applying AoE in a 1vX situation and combined with LitanyOW. It also gives yet another way of applying healing in addition to AH which was already powerful in a team fight.

It would be nice if it was instant like the other meditations, but for now we just need to make sure to pop stability, or blind, or aegis right before using the skill and use it to continue the flow of dps (assuming you are using a meditation DPS build of course). 6 seconds is quite a long time to deal damage, especially if you have an AoE weapon like Staff. Plus it heals for just as much if not more than Shelter when traited, even if you miss every single attack.

Played with every possible weapon set in pvp, and came to the conclusion that only GS and Staff are well-balanced – dps, cc, cond. cleansing, symbols, support, and mobility. And the new GS trait is beautiful with any build that has moderate to high healing.

Thanks for the feedback! I like unscathed contender because you can pre-cast Focus 5 and Mace 2 and then teleport in for instant burst, then cycle through mace 3, sword 3, and torch 4 (time it after their dodge). In between I can sometimes blind them with VoJ and Sword 2 so that Unscathed Contender still procs, but I do see the problem with using Virtue of Courage for the damage bonus vs. using it for stability…can’t have both

I will definitely try taking 15 pts from Virtues and putting it into Radiance for the 10% extra sword damage. Maybe I’ll swap out the runes for Lyssa runes since stability is so necessary in this meta.

And lastly, I’m interested in seeing the numbers for the new Zeal V – Shattered Aegis since that would be a nice addition to my build – either have 20% extra damage or damage my foe when Aegis is removed!

The idea is to frontload all dps, get a quick stability stomp, and then run to another point to dps, just like a thief/mesmer. Obviously the guardian lacks stealth to retreat, but what the guardian lacks in running away he makes up for in AoE dps, as well as a fair amount of blocks/invuln. I plan to change up the build a little with the new meditation heal and possibly a greatsword variation after the patch.

Anything else I can do to make my guard more successful in melting faces?

If the leader DC’s or go’s offline he no longer is party leader and it does not effect the remaining members of the group. The person who opens fractals can even leave the instance to repair now as long as they don’t change the character they are using. Are you sure your not being kicked?

I thought this too, but I (party leader) tried to switch to my alt during a fractal and my party got kicked out of the dungeon. They were not happy, and neither was I.

In PvP, having a fast, ranged, non-reflectable auto attack that hits for 1.5-2k damage is a beautiful thing. The push is also invaluable for neuting a point, and if they have stability you can just rip it off them with GS 3.

vs. the stun lock build – be skilled at dodging and/or have multiple stunbreaks. Spam conditions when zerker buff drops. Or use non-tournament viable extreme burst builds that instagib and hope they don’t have auto endure pain.

vs. the bunker regen build – strip their stability and knock em off the point. laugh as they try to damage you. If you don’t have boon-stripping + cc, find another point to contest and pray ANet nerfs dat regen.

vs. the tanky condition build – same as bunker regen, but make sure you cleanse conditions. this is the worst build to deal with imo, since a skilled warrior running longbow/s/s or similar will win in 90% of 1v1 fights through attrition.

There are many mesmer pvp builds that stack 25 might in seconds (might on interrupt), then share them with their whole team with Signet of Inspiration.
Warrior can get 25 stacks of might easily with hundred blades (traited GS), shouts, and signet of rage.
Elementalist can stack 25 might with cantrips and blast finishers.

But like others have said, it’s very uncommon to those might stacks lasting very long in pvp, where boon-stripping/stealing is part of the meta.

Not maxed level/gear in WvW? Run with zerg and grenades.
Maxed level/gear? Same thing, but moar grenades (30 points in Explosives, the rest is up to you).

For less zerging and smaller skirmishes, try a 3 kit build for lots of cc, conditions, blocks, combos, etc. Check the forums for one that fits your playstyle.

There are new builds coming out every week for Mesmer, many of them are quite viable.

That should speak for itself, but here’s why I think the class is in a great place:
Mesmer has access to the best escape options (stealth + invuln), best burst, group teleport, reflection, boon stripping/sharing, best revive skill, awesome elite skills, and a ton of build variety. Really the only downside to Mesmer is lack of passive swiftness and condition removal (but there are Traveler runes, condition duration foods, etc. so its not that big of a deal).

Honestly, I wouldn’t change much about the Mesmer class, in fact I’d much rather see other classes brought up to our level of viability rather than any nerfs.
