I find it works to keep asking people in Team chat to AFK in OS. If you have guildies afking in another map that also has a queue, tell them to move and give them shared participation. Often times you will have people on both maps trying to get in the other.

Reducing the map cap to 40-50 would go a long way to fix the lag.

Then reduce squad size to 20-25.

I agree with this. With the Condi and boon spam a lot of processing bandwidth is used. The only way to reduce this lag is that reduce the player caps. 50 on each map seems fair, however raid size should be 30 to accommodate larger guilds.

However there would be a lot of blow back from the more established wvw communities who frequently run militia squads that are full

I used to roam as did many friends,. Often times it’s solo or duo roaming when I did. Unfortunately now it’s rather comped 4 to 5 man’s no giving the casuals a chance to even dodge or stealth duos instagibbing people. Sometimes you will find a solo Condi mesmer or a berserker, either way it’s annoying. The sheer number of passive defense traits and the power creep really took the fun out of it.

I wasn’t a great roamer but I atleast could kill more than I died without even running a meta build but now a complete trash player just needs to put on a couple meta builds and they can easily win. I only like to roam on one class so I find better things to do with my time

TC makes its own problems. You had the reward patch that brought in a huge number of TCs massive pve population and eotm guilds. You had a very strong link that kept your Fairweather’s happy. Hype has died down and the link changed. So TC should be full. It had more queues than Maguuma for a few weeks. I also think Maguuma should stay full despite being on a negative downswing of activity. An algorithm should always be delayed in its adjustment or it can be open to much abuse.

As for people leaving, it’s a combination of now you are losing plus the horrible server politics driving away players who know how to win. Perhaps your server council should focus more on training your population to actually win Vs catering to people with hurt feelings. This will keep those Fairweather’s engaged.

I only came back to TC to run with friends but I was reminded pretty quick as why my other guild left so long ago, the same people in control thinking their vision is the only way. I won’t go into further detail just leave it as TC has enough people, fix your problems and you will be fine.

Being on both Maguuma and TC I find it interesting that you are complaining about map blobs (specifically TC) and abusing mechanics (specifically Magumma.)

No. I think if the opposite team can get their downed up there should be no penalty. Sometimes you need to rez your downed, especially if you have a smaller group.

There should be no penalty expect the opposite team should feel stupid for letting you lol.

Im not sure if you are speaking of full downed or downstate. If it’s the former then you are wrong. Being fully dead is supposed to put you out of the engagement, your extra chances are downstate, rallies and skills that revive you. You don’t need more than that, if you do then you are a hindrance to your grouo

Nope you are wrong and A and B are correct because you did not read my post.
You get nothing for killing another player when they run away because they ran away and didn’t die. You only get to kill the other player if they stay and fight and if you are better than they are. When the other player runs away all you get to do is recap the sentry outside the camp.
The idea of scouting your home border is to keep your camps friendly to upgrade your keeps. If you leave the map then the enemy turns up, caps the camps and your stuff doesn’t upgrade.

i read your post, i just think you are being ridiculous.

You are complaining about how it doesn’t work because you are the only person on map, and there are no enemies at all except one person who you cant lock down and kill who keeps contesting a camp. Well you are forgetting about escorting yaks, you are forgetting about ruins, you are forgetting that there generally is other sentries that flip randomly in the south and in ruins. So even without doing what you should be doing, getting shared participation, you can still maintain participation fine with your choice to remain on a dead map, in what is likely a dead time zone.

It should also be sayed that /team call outs should be used when there actually is a problem, ie no one on map, or not nearly enough people. Calling in through team chat for 5 people killing guards at a keep generally will get people angry.

Currently when solo scouting your home border the following often takes place:
1) You see an orange dot at a sentry near a camp.
2) You move to defend the camp.
3) The enemy runs away.
4) You recap sentry to keep participation
5) 2-10 mins later back to step (1)

Except under the new system step 4 no longer resets your participation to full.
This means under the new system if you want to keep participation you have two options:
A) Don’t scout – roam or zerg instead.
B) Don’t defend the camp, let them cap it and cap it back as soon as it is off timer.

Let’s put participation back to how it was.
Several times tonight I’ve had to hop to another border to cap a camp to keep my participation up and hope nothing happens on the border I was scouting while I was away. This is rather daft, especially now that stupid “Skirmish Details” box drops down every time you border hop. That is getting really annoying already – is there any way to lock it to stop it dropping down?

Your A and B are both wrong.

A scout can roam and still do their self imposed job, you just need to know how to properly map read. This will open up several sentries for recap, as well as camps, plus a couple ruins if you wanted. if you are lucky, there will be a tower to kill guards at as you run by. A good scout actually lets their commanders know BEFORE the enemies contest the waypoint since they will find the zerg on the move. If the map is dead and nothing flips, then it is your fault for hanging around a dead map without having a commander share participation. so in short, this is a failing on your part

For B… You get 10 minutes for killing a player, ie defending the camp. So your point of having to let the camp flip is false.

Suggestion: Revive Sickness in WvW

Revive Sickness should be applied to a player when they are revived from being fully dead. If they do not want Revive Sickness, then they should Waypoint.

For those wvwers who never use the revive orbs, you revive with 50% health, and are in combat for 60 seconds.

We already had the nerf where you need to be out of combat to rez someone. Unfortunately large groups still have an easy time rezzing their dead mid fight since the enemy group is not able to keep the entire enemy zerg in combat, this at least will put those people who were rezzed locked in combat for a reasonable time preventing the cycle from repeating over and over again and giving the enemy a little better chance defeating sustain groups with heavy mercy rune use.

Once this is implemented we can look at how it improved gameplay vs large groups, and if it is not enough, perhaps see if we can make rez sickness persistent in death with an added debuff that you cannot be rezzed until the timer is done. The goal is not to punish people rezzing their buddies after an engagement is done (or a roamer picks one off and flees), but to discourage what i see as unhealthy abuse of mechanics through rezzing during the fight.

How about most of the people in this thread actually playing with the fix before condemning ArenaNet for not testing it?

If a camp really gets you 10 minutes and a sentry gets you five, that’s plenty of time to get to another objective and actually DO something.

I am curious how much killing a guard gets you as they are plentiful and do earn you WxP, not to mention credit for the objective if it’s taken later by someone else.

No it’s not working that way unfortunately. Some people are saying they are getting larger amounts of time for doing things but doesn’t seem to be doing that for everyone. Half an houra ago in EBG, I was with zerg, took tower.. ported back to garri and ran straight to SMC… by the time I got there was already in full decay.. so even tho I got credit for the tower, I didn’t get the extra time to the decay meter.

Well here’s a good one… I had almost 5 minutes left, then we took a tower… suddenly it was counting down from 4 minutes. So, if you take something that gives a lower reset time then something you just took before that you lose the benefit of the longer reset time… you get reset to the last taken/killed object. The benefit of killing someone and getting a 10 minute reset is wiped out by taking anything else with a lower reset time.

This is from personal experience a half hour ago.

I haven’t given up because i never planned on actively pursuing the rewards. I’ve reach the last diamond chest twice, its summer though and i dont always want to be glued to Guildwars, so ive been happy making it to mithril chests (and sometimes the first diamond) playing a reset and casually a couple/few nights a week

I remember the days when roamers were the scouts. When I hear people yelling about not being credited for scouting it just yells out we got a lazy player who refuses to improve their personal skill level. As an almost entirely wvw based player since prelaunch, I’ve spent much of my time roaming around our objectives as a scout and I can count on one hand how many times an objective was lost because I wasn’t twiddling my thumbs inside a keep waiting for the contest timer. That is since prelaunch. So if you are having decay problems, quit whining and learn to play wvw. If you are horrible at it, try gearing and going for a roamer build before quitting and going back to being a map freeloader. If you are truly horrible play one of the coward builds meant for running away and be happy you can now give your zergs a chance to waypoint in before it contests.

Also if your decay is because there is nothing to do, then that is what you get for being on a dead map. If you Dont want to play where you might die then you shouldn’t get rewards.

There are worse offenders out there. Stop crying over a few clicks. Sure I’d I leave my inventory alone all night it will be annoying to deal with but what others said open as you go. About the only thing I agree with in this thread is make paper siege chests stack. Otherwise switch your reward track if the loot annoys you. If I keep in the same reward track for a night, which I tend to do to unlock pve skins, the boxes do stack. So worst case leave the track boxes alone and just work on salvaging miscellaneous drops. I tend to open my boxes 2 or 3 times a night but there is plenty of downtime in a wvw raid to do it otherwise. Every time you stop at an objective, or people have a bio break, merchant break, etc open your inventory and quit whining.

you can bind your mouse wheel to double click, just make sure you don’t have control pressed as you do it or you will have angry people in chat.

Ideal Machine for WvW ?

I personally had no issues on the previous generation of AMD. Had to unpark the cpu cores and I did have it overclocked to 4.7 GHz on a six core though. Running an overclocked i7-6700k atm and the difference is negligible between the two. So don’t let fanboys in either camp persuade you either way.

Many Devs play but they tend to play untagged. If you know a dev well enough, convince them to run with their anet tag within the zerg. Have a party of dedicated reflects and invis for the Dev and you will have enjoy farming all those over extenders

What is middle ground? I want the time gate because it helps keep reward farmers out. I like rewards but too much ruins the game mode through excessive queues even on moderate population servers in prime time.

Middle ground to me is minor tweaks only.

Halve outnumbered, lock out the pips when map hopping for one participation tick. Please make it more variable.
Personal rank is too high, cut it down too. It can be paired up for pips. Bronze/silver 1, gold/plat 2 and mithril/diamond 3. It is still a nod to vets who stuck with the gamemode buy it isn’t on sided as it was.
To compensate the reduction, make server rank in skirmish 3,4,5.

I get 6-8 pips a tick, this would put me at 6 to 8 pips still. I know plenty of long time vets who are still bronze,silver and gold ranks so this doesn’t nerf the vets. People who play in the more zergy and karma train heavy communities may see a hit, but i would rather see this baseline increase that makes newcomers feel less disadvantaged. This also is more alt account friendly. The sheer number of pips that the upper echelon of ranks get atm really is counterproductive to what arenanet was hoping to achieve with this system. Rather I than promote more activity from your high ranked it indirectly tells them they played enough for the week.

Ticket acquisition and gear rank requirements are different issues and shouldn’t be part of this discussion.

The taco overlay offers a range indicator that uses the mumble API to achieve this legitimately. However i found It only useful to see what the actual range circles look like, then turned off the clunky overlay. People who mainly play range may find it useful when playing your first melee builds

Who cares. Learn to rely on your scouts and you won’t need to rely on the tactics. I don’t need more screen spam especially with being on Maguuma and having tactics pulled by enemies almost as much as our native troll population pulls them out of boredom.

Any automated flagging system won’t be perfect,. All it takes is a roamer killing a guard for wxp for an objective to contest, eliminating the only check you can use.

Plus you also have legit accidents like people looting bags, siege too close to tactivators and even people stomping. Happens in valley often as there is a tactivators in range of the waypoint.

I would be all for removing the chill from.necro and burn from guard to ACS but only if they remove all gear scaling to ACS damage output. IE no more pure Condi cancer ACs. After they do this then we can see if arrowcarts need to be tweaked further.

1 AC should never stop 15 people. It should be enough to kill a piece siege when teamed with a couple siege disables. However the damage should be outpaced by the ram/cats if a disable is not used.

What I often see is thieves complaining about no stab, but being down 600 range in front of the commander. Funny Hong is this happens when they are in a decent party a comp too. They whine how glass they need to go to generate downs and so they become downed every fight and blame group comp. Most competent thieves I know have moved to other classes when they join a group more than 5.

So good on our for being a single competent thief amongst the 20 on map wasting a queue slot

You rarely see them because most people are slaves to meta, and can only think in terms of GREN, and that thieves are only good for roaming/ganking/pick teams. So people end up pigeon holed due to misinformation being spread. If people actually bothered to learn what the classes outside of GREN were capable of, and promoted accurate information, you’d see a change in approach. But as long as people come into the map and say ’I’m on a thief/ranger, what should I be running?" and they get told full zerk, cause you’re a roaming class", that’s all that you’ll see. And for the record, not even pick thieves should be running zerk gear. They should be running a mix of Cav and Valk so that they don’t melt in all the AoE that’s getting tossed around.

It’s hard enough to get most people to change a build, good luck teaching a random pug who doesn’t even solicit for advice. But I do agree that there are solutions outside the meta, I run 2 of my 3 wvw ele builds completely outside of meta.

Perhaps your personal issue is being with commanders/lieutenants who are not familiar with you. Your solution would be to ask for lieutenant so other lieutenants won’t move you personally. I often see randoms getting it to sort parties for the commander and often they fall into the ignorant self absorbed mentality who only know how to repeat what they hear.

I know on Maguuma there is a small percentage rate of thieves and rangers who generally are accepted by the veterans since they live and contribute,. But these rarely are in the raid they stick to themselves.

Even arena net doesn’t see EoTM as wvw, They call it a test map, so naturally it should be less rewarding than real play where you actually have to kill an enemy now and then. The EoTMers should be glad right now that there are much less guilds on there hunting down their easy free bags and their ktrains can run much more efficiently thanks to that.

I often avoid playing in a blob and i have no issues gaining the participation needed and my WvW rank is much higher than a good portion of the blobbers because i am willing to play without a tag on map vs them logging out. Your point of an apparent advantage is moot. If its the ranking issue that is your problem, use the guide in my signature if you are unaware of how to efficiently gain wxp levels.

I put my time in wvw, not for the ranks, but because its the game mode i like. The majority of my ranks were gained when i was on the outnumbered server, maguuma wasn’t always a bandwagon, much of my gameplay fell outside of its prime time where we got outcoveraged constantly. With blackgate deciding to wake up, even last night, both Yaks bend and Blackgate had significantly more players out in late PST/early OCX, but i still got my pips fine. Maguuma consistently had outnumbered on 2 maps, with a third flashing off and on thanks to afk hoppers. My pip gain was quite varied from 4 to 11 pips throughout my playsession, and i really didnt care when i got the 4 pips because the game was atleast active every where.

So don’t be lazy and just play the game mode, eventually your pips will count themselves, an active WvW should easily be starting on their diamond chests by the end of the weekend.

A lot of guilds have been switching to discord not because its better, but because its free and easy to use. Another major reason is they can run more private and don’t need to deal with trolls as often. However this behaviour fragments server communities. I’ve noticed that on the two servers im on, both have seen significant drop in activity on their TS3 community. I personally have stopped hosting my own backup team speak because discord was a no brainer solution.

Another advantage is it can eliminate guilds using Forums and facebook to communicate outside of game and pass on important information. With some overactive community though, its impossible to keep up with all day :P

Perhaps use your initial post to also document GW2 Community discords. Rules and acceptable behaviour do vary community to community…

This has been prevalent for a long time and its for a good reason. Rangers are often not specced properly for squad play and so they should not benefit from the boons. If you are a ranger running a frontline heal druid spec, pm the raid leader and they may let you in, otherwise you have two choices, join a pve player pug squad, or change toons.

As for thieves, when the patch hit, we left the thieves in our squad but put them all in one group. every single encounter, there was 5 out of the 6 down, and unfortunately it wasnt the same person living every time. THe class isn’t built for zerg play in any useful form. People are too bunker and there is too much condis being spammed all around for you to properly pick people off. Your best bet is to roam and be that person people rage about, or to switch toons

From what i’ve seen the primetime Mag queues have already returned to normal, with the advantage of being more random people on different maps. I know many non-elitist people friendly guilds managed to recruit significant numbers from this patch so i would say it worked out nicely to give some new blood to wvw.

With how queues are now, more and more people are just idling away in spawn even when their participation runs out. This way when they do want to play later, they are already through the queue.

So this can be alleviated by kicking people for gaining no participation in 10 minutes after their participation runs down to 0. Granting an opponent wxp could be a way to reset the timer since spawn camping sometimes happens. The reason for 10 minutes vs 5 is sometimes there’s not much objectives nearby to reset the timer, 10 minutes would be plenty though to get something across the map. People in raids who need to afk a bit longer can get shared participation to stay in the map.

I think I’m on my fifth run through of diamond chests and I don’t care. I still am rewarded fine for my time played especially with the reward track boosts in diamond allowing me to skip pve farming now.

Chances are if you are playing on a server always in third you will get outnumbered ticks more often to make up for those with abysmal ranks. And yes if you go on vacation you lose the bonus. This is:
“Noob guide: increasing your world ability points”

This doesn’t even have enough information for most noobs…i’d show them the wiki page instead as it has much more information and actual numbers. If I needed to ease some1 into the mode who just wanted to fool around, I’d show them this to give them some general ideas on how to go about playing.

So… Goodjob creating a casual’s guide that offers some insight as they start the mode. If you want more insight consult the wiki or a real guide. Waste of time for everyone else though, including me who read this thinking it would explain a real wxp farm route…..nope.

I am deeply sorry I did not provide you with an indepth guide on how to satisfy a grumpy forum troll looking for a taco add-on on where exactly to stand to gain x wxp.

Most of the people posting lately are either dissatisfied people with exceptionally high ranks who blew through the pips or are complete wvw casuals/new players not knowing what to do. This guide is for the latter. While some of the information is on the wiki, it’s still spread out and not easy to read for people, this is why I made the guide.

In my 2500 pips I have received so far, I have completed enough ls3 reward tracks for two ascended accessories, RNGesus has graced me with 3 ascended rings and 3 ascended weapons chests. People looking to quickly gear their toons with incentive should not consider the claim tickets as a means for it. Tier 3 is for skins not the stats so quit fixating on it. Instead unlock a reward track for ls3 and you can easily gear half your slots with ascended hot stat pieces without relying on the blessed RNGesus. While you persue the skins or T2 ascended you will get drops. But I’m sure the actual gear stats is not what people want, they want some hideous skin to say they have it and are crying foul pretending they don’t already have fully geared toons for wvw.

They already reward you with 3 bonus rank up cheats for out numbering your opponent in off hours. For the time you personally play atleast you are getting an incentive?s for getting first through two extra pips. I would say they found the right balance to not cause overstacking. Soon they will abolish glico based matchups and move to one up and one down so with the exception of black gate, people won’t be able to bandwagon lower tiered first place servers behind a glico wall.

i could be wrong, theres been no real information on the cause of it. But look at it this way, atleast anet fixed the bug where you went into another BL when waypointing after dying.

I wouldn’t say it needs a tier, but i do think outnumbered pips should require you to be on the map for the entire tick, this will atleast stop those hopping in the last minute of a tick hoping to find an outmanned map.

that isn’t true at all. The highest rate of intake is when you are in a Havoc group on the Red BL. Many servers (except mag) back cap it pretty efficiently so you have big and small objectives to constantly hit and the enemies avoid you so much that every time you do find them and kill them, they are worth a lot of WXP. By havoc i mean a 15-20 people, any larger and you scare the enemies off the map.

So please don’t be spreading false information about needing to be in the higher tier, if anything it lowers the rate of gain due to less objectives and less guards available to kill.
