An option to combine them so they would level based on the number in the stack would be good. Stack of 16 would boost you 16 levels from your current level when applied to a character.

Why cant we have cool pets?

in Ranger

Posted by: octagon.6504

octagon.6504

We dont need Overpowered pets, just thematically better ones and ones who actually feel like a threat. Sending a Deer to fight a god sounds just utterly ridiculous, and the new pets look like crap.

Anything fighting a god is utterly ridiculous. What exactly do you think is not ridiculous to send to fight against a god? A Balrog perhaps? A Junundu?

And if it’s powerful enough to fight a god, why would it allow you to ‘tame’ it and tell it what to do?

Demi-god pets would be powerful enough. Obtained through Shamanic ritual. Spirit helpers.

Request: Do NOT tweak the mounts.

I have little problems with the mounts but like someone else said it should have been implemented as an option and not a necessity. Most games give people a choice. Mounts, waypoints, running, and sometimes, flying. By putting in mandatory jumping to get to some locations and probably other mandatory mounts skills needed for other content, people have one way to travel, period, in some cases, to reach some destinations. Limiting your customer base in some cases.

But who knows, maybe their numbers went up when gliding was introduced as the only way to reach some locations in HoT.

People had problems with the teleporter one???

Really?

oooookay.

Some folk actually have short term memory issues for various reasons… No need to be snarky about folk who may have issues doing something seemingly as simple as this seems to be for yourself. (walk a mile in their shoes and you will view it differently) It is not easy to remember sequences even as short as those were and the last sequence was presented fairly quickly.

My trick for the teleport was drawing 3 sets of switches for each round like this:
O O
O O
O O
and I numbered them so I could see what switches to pull. That got me through it.

The chef one I would have like to have seen something more believable in cooking such as throwing into the pot or putting it on a cutting board. Actually having one make/discover a recipe would have been more fun and you could have gotten a recipe as well as the MP for it.

I ended up drawing a vertical line and two horizontal lines (like a double cross) on paper three times. When the things lit up I numbered the spaces between the lines. I also realized someone could stand back and watch you and when your in the middle run a mob over to you. This happened to me once but don’t think it was done on purpose.
The soup bowl I just don’t like so won’t do. Maybe one day, maybe not.

Ever since HoT, and a little bit in season 2, they’ve been culling the density of Waypoints… which I think is a good thing. More people roaming instead of teleporting around makes for more lively maps, and more events to stumble upon while traveling.

The main benefit of waypoints is being able to get around the entire world quickly. This is a convenience that a lot of other MMOs lack that waypoints cover for.

I wouldn’t be upset if they added a few more waypoints to the map though; something around the density of HoT… because this is even more sparse than those were. Mounts still have value even if they did add more waypoints; their mobility features, like long jump, make sure of that.

I bet when mounts go live you see a lot of people riding mounts in the old content even if their are a lot of waypoints. I know I intend to. You really don’t have to force people to ride mounts. A lot of MMO’s have a good distribution of waypoints and people still enjoy riding mounts in them.

ESO started out making the content pretty hard as they wanted every boss and mini boss battle to be epic. Most casuals didn’t like it and the place became a ghost town. A hard fight is good every once in awhile but it’s different when every fight is a challenge.
So they made content a lot easier and the casuals came back. When-ever I’m on I see lots of people. GW2 is moving towards making every fight epic and we will see how their numbers do. But others have done it and the most successful MMO’s aren’t the ones with the hardest content.

What do you guys think will be added as potential pets? I am going to guess lions, dune lizards, and crocodiles will also be added, but what do you ladies and gentlemen want to see fight by your side?

If you look at the pets in our inventory in the demo you can see the outlines and names of the new ones.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I leveled every class, got elites for them in HoT. Thief was one of the easier to get elites for because of the stealth abilities, got past a lot of mobs. Join or follow a group that’s doing HP’s and it should be easy. Some points I had to look up a guide for help getting to them. I would also follow a group when I came across one for awhile.

I saw somewhere that we might get a different system than doing a bunch of HPs to get an elite. It would be nice, I wanted to explore HOT the first time with the spec meant for it. Not my first experience be grinding HPs. People laugh that it was grinding but to an altoholic it is.

I love exploring also. When GW2 launched one of the things I did was go pet collecting with my Ranger. Yes, I got one shotted a lot by high level mobs but it was a lot of fun surviving until I made it to the next port and very rewarding taming in those high level areas. With HoT a lot of my explorations were greeted with closed gates that could only be opened in a specific way by doing specific content. Very frustrating.

I struggled hard near the end trying to get 185 mastery as I had almost nothing left but stupid mini games and Story achieves that were too hard for me. I did everything I could except what was still available during events in TD and DS. It was really hard to get people to help you to do anything on these maps as they only cared about doing the end boss of both maps and will not even bother to give you any ounce of help. I sometimes had to take it into my own hands and don a tag and just try to figure out where to go and what to do and lead other like-minded individuals myself. The community is atrocious and the game-play sucks! A lot of the events needed to be done for masteries I have left are bugged or partially broken or have no clear indicator when they are active. I’m talking about things like Lore Untangler and Scar outpost events and Chak Driver In TD especially. You try to ask people for help and they give nasty remarks tell you to leave the map as its the Meta running map, or auto block you (I’m sure this is happening).

This really makes me fell bad for this game that its gone so far off the rails. I am going to get my guild back up and running just to have people like us on this thread and other threads (raids also comes to mind) that are having such a hard time get all into one massive 500 man group to finally get the help we deserve and “play our way”.

Agreed.

Overcomplicating?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I noticed most games are becoming over complicated. Multiple currencies, xp types, and a few other things that increase the learning curve and for me makes it difficult to return to a game as a lot has to be relearned, not counting catching up to current builds and skills effectiveness. Some games I just leave alone because it’s not worth it.

Mounts, water and old maps

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: octagon.6504

octagon.6504

Sounds like they’re creating the need for mounts by adding few ports. The only way to get around may be to ride a mount or run in the new content, in the old nothing not much will change, thankfully. Mounts will just be a new addition to the fashion show in the old maps.

I noticed HoT doesn’t have many ports and was thinking how handy a mount might come in, but adding all the mobs they have to HoT you wouldn’t really be able to get to far before having to fight, which makes it easier to just run and fight through content.

I have one of every class maxed and play mostly PvE so the ones I play the most are Ranger and Necro. Both go through content like butter. Thief can be fun but is a challenge as one wrong move and your a dead thief. But Thief is fun and you get that rush when you succeed. Lastly a guardian spec as healer is awesome as he can heal his way through a lot of content.

Have you looked at the other class forums?

in Ranger

Posted by: octagon.6504

octagon.6504

Professions are not created equally because different teams work on each profession. This was further highlighted to me when I compared the two Elites for the professions I played before HoT.

Mesmer Chrono feels like a spec made by a Mesmer player for other Mesmer players. (i.e., its a spec done right.)

Ranger Druid feels like a spec made by someone disconnected from Rangers and gaming in general. Even though I can take certain abilities/weapons/traits to make the Elite work, its so fundamentally wrong to me that I have absolutely no desire to make it work. (I feel like I was given crap with some sticks in it and asked to build a house out of it.)

Good luck Anet trying to balance every weapon/utility for AF generation; time well spent.

I agree. When someone woks on a class they like you can tell. It’s usually a really great class. When someone works on a class just because they were assigned that class it usually sounds good on paper but makes no sense in actual game play.

The masteries QQ is ridiculous. Would you rather go back to a leveling system where you can’t do content until you’re level X? The only difference between masteries and a traditional leveling system is that I can choose which zone’s masteries to focus on first rather than having to grind levels on all previous zones first.

Leveling 1-80 wasn’t locked behind group-required meta events, you could do it at your own pace and WHEN YOU CHOSE TO, your progression wasn’t dictated by event timers and the availabiltiy of others to ‘group up’ for the 1990s group-or-die content HOT’s Challenges and metas demand.

So yes, I want to ‘go back’ to normal leveling please.

I must agree, and I was surprised that there’s only one way to get new content which is through HoT. Even Ranger pets have always been spread out everywhere or pets could be found in more then one place, not anymore. This is their first expansion so I’ll give them time.

I know it’s not their intention but this expansion does appear to promote an elitist agenda.

It’s not bad for their first expansion. Hopefully they will learn that there were a lot of people not complaining about the old content not being hard enough because they were out enjoying the old maps and didn’t have a reason to complain. People with 69 or more alts says something about this game. I’m not against hard content but GW2 always gave us a choice. I could have a viable character with just doing dynamic events or questing which I still enjoy doing.

Once I got my elite specs I seldom return to HoT. It’s really perfect for organized guilds, group content that works best for large organized guilds or guilds that do organized runs on content.

As a solo player, when it’s night, you pretty much have to group to get things done. Plus I run into being on the wrong level of the map, or running into a dead end on the map while fighting my way through mobs, or not having enough people to do some timed content.

I don’t enjoy all the frustration so I seldom go there. I pretty much like the old maps and do them nearly everyday.

If I died fast in HoT the first thing I do is review my build. I go to the professions forum and look for good builds to try. I also sometimes use Dolyak runes for increased survivability.

Getting all the waypoints you can find is a good idea because as groups call out what they’re working on you can instantly port there and join in.

HoT isn’t very intuitive so look over guides like Duffy’s HoT guide for help and read the forums.

GW2 was a great casual game. It’s latest dlc is trying to be hardcore like every other game out today. Why they would want to give up their uniqueness to become part of the general mmo hardcore pack is beyond me as the hardcore mmo’s are struggling. If I want to die a lot and spend time struggling to level through gated content there are plenty of mmo’s that already provide that pleasure. Once I get my elites on all my characters I probably won’t go back to HoT.

GW2 original philosophy was leveling should be easy because a lot of people race to max anyway so they would make it easier to do this. Because of that I have about nine max characters that I enjoy playing, where in other games I seldom reach max and leave.

HoT departs from this and seems more like Skyforge and it’s gated for grinding content. I’m happy they lowered the hero points because by the time I got my elite done I had nearly finished all the content which I believe the content was meant to be done as an elite. It also looks like gear grind creeping in.
