Actually he is correct, you cannot stow the pet permanently. if you end up in combat it pops back out, and there is no hot hey to stow the pet. It would be nice if Rangers had one.
Another thing, It would be nice to not have to depend on your pet.
And who was talking about the possibility to permanently stow the pet? He said we should have (or better, we NEED) this option because he seems unable to do a single kitten thing in game because of the pet, which is ridicoulous (and false), since there are thousands of rangers/druids out there doing everything without problems.
He can always put him on passive mode, if he doesn’t want it to go in front of an enemy, npcs will not attack him, players will ALWAYS focun on you, and NOT the pet.
We COULD have that option to stow the pet permanently, but for sure we don’t NEED it.
And asking for a pet class to get rid of the pet, btw, is ridicoulous and would need a complete rework of the class itself. At his point, reroll a guardian or warrior.
…or maybe you don’t know how to use it, ’cause everyone is able to do what you are saying is “undoable”…
A “test map” where you could flag your toon on or off (maybe with a background story of some different factions to choose from) for pvp wouldn’t hurt anyone.
It’s ridicoulous to say NO without even trying if it could be fun or not. People passed YEARS blaming GW2 for having pve/spvp/wvw all disconnected from themselves like they were 3 different games with no interactions between them. Now everyone is against even trying a different game mode? Games need to evolve to maintain their player base. And please, stop saying ANET said this and that. Many of the original “manifesto” ideas died years ago, no one wanted raids, Anet never wanted to include them in the game in the beginning, for example, but now basically everyone is doing them. So wow! Things that you said were unwanted by the community are now played daily. And people wants more of them.
They should do a little map or room where you can change what you want (wardrobe/makeover changes), and you can apply those changes, that will remain until you exit that map/room. Because there are a lot of hairstyles/armor combos that seems good in the preview but not when you’re really moving your char in the world (clipping problems etc…)
It’s not a big problem for me, but i think that they should at least cut the AP needed for the skins rewards by a good half.
Seriously?
For years, MMOs have almost always had skimpy outfits for female characters. Now, for once, we get a game that has clothing meant to make females look epic rather than kittenty, and you demand it changed even though you already have what you want on thousands of other games out there?
That’s just greed man. There are already some skimpy outfits in game, you should look elsewhere or find other activities if it’s not enough and if you’re looking for something different.
You clearly have some problems to recognize the difference between skimpy and “fit for war”. Rangers and thieves should have A LOT more options to wear armors that are no longer than a hauberk. Is it so difficult to stop at the knees? Do we always have to choose “armors” that cover our feet too? What’s the idea behind all this for classes based on their agility? Dodge, stumble upon the skirt, and roll into enemies like devastating leather balls? Why can’t we have MORE armors like the triumphant one? The brigandine is the PERFECT chest piece for a medium armor .
You can look at a combo that I use in the Rangers screenshots thread. Is that “skimpy”? do you see an inch of skin in that screen? is that “less epic for a female” than one of the 82467 threnchcoats or skirts?
So you’re asking for a minstrel class like in LOTRO? I’m in.
-1 they should stay as they are
Why should they stay as they are? Convince those of us who think that such events should be scaled to reflect the number of people likely to participate at any one time that they should remain as they are.
Why should they stay as they are? Because they are challenging. They should maybe increase the reward to motivate people to do them more often, not make those champs veterans or elites (look what happened to the starter zones when anet did that to those champs…maps once full for the champ trains became instantly empty). And if you can’t do them due to a lack of people in the map in a particular moment, just skip them and wait for another moment, cause if you ask for help in chat, usually people come to help you without problems.
I can’t understand why people always wants easier content in pve.
For the chest the most “oriental” armor is probably the illustrious one. And then you choose the other pieces based on your taste.
I don’t get what this adds to the game. There are already 2 ways to engage in PVP in this game … we need another?
Yes we do, for the reasons I stated in my 2 earlier posts.
Well, Frankly, I think those reasons are garbage … I mean, openworld PVP won’t add more than the current TWO types of PVP we have in the game … and you are going to change the flavour of PVE which most people regard as the ‘fun, safe’ zone. Just forget it.
Those reasons are NOT garbage. If implemented well, that would be simply spectacular. It would be an “enhanced” pve experience even for the ones who will never engage in open world pvp. We already have open world events based on npc factions that fight against each others. Giving the opportunity, for example, to take part in those fights by choosing one side or another in a particular map, would only add more “realism”. With the result of a more “alive”, dynamic, world.
There could be new factions, or guilds, with new history behind them, with specific rewards and so on. All this without talking of gwg (maybe with a max of 8vs8 players or something like that, so you will not have the risk of overcrowded maps).
And you know what? that could blend the distance between pve and pvp that led so many players to abandon the game in the past. Spvp? yeah, always the same maps, and it’s always an arena type of game. Wvw? yeah thanks, we know those 3 maps like our pockets after 4 years, and it often leads to giant blobs against giant blobs of people who smash buttons without even targeting or with some strategy.
We NEED a change in the pvp part. The chance of being able to do it in the pve maps would be a great bonus, even for the change of scenery alone. You don’t want to do it? fine, you will not be touched by it and it will not ruin your pve experience. You want some more excitement? you check that button or whatever else and the you go. It would only be a win win situation to give more life even to the low level maps.
Longbows wasn’t a japanese things only, i think british army used them quite extensively in the war of two roses (i think is was called that in english).
Let’s say that they liked to kill first the scots, and then the french in the hundred years war, more than killing themselves with those wonderful (simple) longbows :P
I think he should have found it after, 3 years…
Well, we have the hero weapons reward track, but apparently no more seasons in wvw, so I don’t understand why this item is not on sale at the mystic forge or included in the final reward chest so we can craft the mistforged weapons. Can you add it please?
(or add the tickets to the reward track like all the other dungeon tokens)

9 months per armor? is he really trying to be serious? Legendary much longer? and what should justify legendary armors take so much more time since they are armors like others? I see a lot of bullkitten here…one new set of weapons every month or so in the last year, about the same for outfits, cash shop armors came out with about the same interval in the first months after release…so, they don’t have problems to create a lot of items you can buy for real money, but they can’t produce an armor to obtain in game for living story episodes. Seems to me they didn’t have this problem in the past, to be honest, but maybe I’m wrong.
And in the end, if you’re wearing medium armor, you have so much choice to justify that loooooooooong armor development, that you’re stuck with 90% longcoats that look almost the same. Wow.
Destroy cultural background because of hairstyles? are you serious?
Maybe you don’t see europeans with dreadlocks? Or asians with european/american hairstyles? With people from all around the world that lives in a same city you can find really everything mixed up. In GW2 you don’t even need airplanes to travel from a place to another in the other part of the world, you have all the waypoints to teleport yourself around where you want, and every race is not “forced” in its “continent” anymore, like irl, so why tyrian barbers shouldn’t be able to replicate a particular hairstyle? At least for humans/norns. Norns are simply giant humans after all.
the best option to avoid this is join a squad if a commander is already there
After all, by buying chests, you’re supporting the creation of the content that everyone plays.
The point you, devs or people with other roles in anet, are continuing to miss, is: listen to the players, treat them like a community and non cashcows, and they will gladly spend real money in cosmetic gear to support you. All anet’s choices in the last 3 years have gone the opposite way. So sorry, but the words i’ve quoted an many others are simply excuses for the many bad decisions you’ve made through the years.
You did a wonderful job with the original GW, everyone LOVED and supported you , always. Personally i spent a good amount of money to support you buying all those costumes (btw, those were at honest prices, not the ones you are requesting for GW2 even for a minimum thing), mission packs etc.
Ask yourself why now you’re often getting only hate at every decision you make. We understand that you can be forced to take decisions about the direction the game is going that will collide with the original “manifesto”, to make money. We can’t accept to be treated like we are stupid persons instead of [paying] customers. That’s not what anet was and promised to be in the future, and if you don’t change something thats what will let your servers empty.
I soloed them too to finish the first part with no problem. They’re legendary only in the name, but they are weaker than a champ
I hope to see a “technological” quiver, to match my little asura’s tech ranger look
The jungle is dense, ya know?
I’t doesn’t have to be a mess to travel into it. If you look at the jungle in EOTN (GW1), well…that’s simply amazing. I can understand one map like the ones we have now, not the entire expansion, it’s too much for a game that pushes on the artistic aspect of the world too. They had to give gliding a meaning, I can understand that, but I hope that in the future we will see more open maps.
Because I think Anet is losing great opportunities, artistically speaking. They are able to create beautiful worlds to explore (ascalonian maps, for example, or the low level tyrian ones), but it’s a pity that they push so hard on post apocalyptic maps as the game progresses (that’s why I loved the expansions of the original GW more than the core game). They should make parts of the maps corrupted by the influence of the various dragons, not entire maps. I like to explore amazing places, not a desolated cemetery after another, filled with undeads only.
there are a lot of people still playing, maps with commanders at the start of the meta events fill up in a blink of an eye, there’s no need to see active users number to see that…simply Anet should resolve the problem with the game putting few people in multiple empty maps
(edited by shalywen.9548)
have you tried maybe going in the pvp lobby, change some pets, then go back to pve and retry if the bug is still present?
It’s difficult to say only one bow, many of them were beautiful…Deldrimor, Amber, Feathered (the one I probably liked the most, especially dyed in white), Oppressor (yeah I know the model is the same used in gw2’s chaos bows, but I would like to see it in his original form), Charr, original Zodiac and Celestial…I would like to see them all return in gw2.
But like I said, Feathered would probably be my first choice
I never understood why shortbows are even a class of weapons in games. There is no such thing as a “shortbow.” It’s a small bow, and the only time this mattered was if the person was on a mount. Frankly, proficiency with one is the same as the other. Unlike swords, there were no effective classifications. Cultures used different lengths of bows for different military approaches. Never in history has there been a distinction between a shortbow and a longbow.
Why they never implemented the crossbow is beyond me. It’s one of history’s best ranged weapons and a staple weapon among the rogue-like classes going all the way back to the early days of Dungeons and Dragons.
Are you serious? Never in history there was a distinction between longbows and shortbows? The distinction was present in the past and still is today. You had to train years and years to be able to use a longbow at the maximum power, and it was used when big armies were fighting from long distances (english archers devastated every enemy army they fought with them). Shortbows where used by mounted archers (asians and eastern europeans mostly) or during skirmishes. Long and short bows were completely different weapons.
You ask why anet never implemented crossbows? well, they had a little bit longer range than a longbow, but in the time a crossbowman reloaded his weapon, an archer could have planted 5-6 arrows in his chest. Crossbows were really slow weapons, and in battle, every crossbowman needed another man to protect him with a large shield when reloading his weapon. So why should crossbows be used in this game when there are already pistols and rifles?
For me, ascalonian maps are the best
i’d prefer better models of existing pets
i don’t think you can unless they bring back the pavilion and all the rest of the events
Seriously, tell me a game that, in the entire history of videogames, gained a “REAL” boost in performance when running under a newer dx version.
There is none. Because you have to code it from the start with the new instructions in mind to take full advantage from them.
And already released game usually support newer dx only to offer some better graphic effects and little more.
The only time when I saw a “little” boost in performance in general from one dx version to another was maybe from 6.1 to 7, but we’re talkin about nearly 20 years ago, when dx were not the only standard and their 3D support was at the beginning
And too low on asura, but these have been around since launch:)
well, every asura dies impaled by their longbow too… :\
It’s not about communities, you can find stupid or helping people anywhere.
Maybe your “friends” are not so friends, if they react like that for such stupid things in a videogame, instead of laughing and joking about it
why don’t you just kick the useless ones? if they don’t help and think only for themselves, why should they remain in your guild?
DS is a first of its kind. The map close down and reset 100% every 2? hours.
This mean that if you dont jump there at a reset time, then you will get to an emty (new) map, since all the ongoing maps are already full full full.
it’s not limited to DS, I have the same problems even on the other jungle maps, even when the game asks me to go in a more populated map I find myself in another empty one most of the times…
yes because at the moment the LFG tool is the only way to go in a crowded map, at least for me, but that doesn’t solve the main problem
Is there a bug or something, or am I the most unlucky person in the world? Because I alway end up being in maps with low population (at least in the jungle maps, haven’t noticed this on the original ones). Seems like the game continues to open new ones instead of filling the existing ones…
Another great thread, cannot express how great it is to have someone running experiments and gathering good data like this. Keep it up.
data that will be probably completely ignored by devs, sadly…
We both along with many others may agree on the same thing, but who do you think represents the majority in the world?
the fact is: if they want the game to be really a competitive esport, they simply CAN’T listen to the majority of people when balancing classes, but they should listen to the people who actually see the game in the same way and test a lot of build etc etc. Also, the majority are probably pve players only, that only jumps in pvp in very few occasions and don’t want to try to learn how to survive longer.
I’m a casual player too, but I like to pvp too even if I’m not that good but I never cried about other classes when I lost ( games are usually lost because of people not playing as a team) even if there were really op skills/traits here and there given to other classes. Finding viable builds to perform better should be the real fun in pvp. That’s the challenge.
But maybe I should stop doing that and start crying on the forums 24/7 like there’s no tomorrow, asking for devastating nerfs for every other class.
What the pvp forums want, they get.
The last week has been hard proof of that.
I understand this, because if you run a game competitively with tournaments for prizes PVP has to be balanced, or close to it. They knew, that if they want to go down that road they will have to listen to players (more).
yeah ok, but usually nerfs are demanded by very casual players…so, shouldn’t they listen to people that reasonably discuss this or that skill or trait, instead that a bunch of people scraming “nerf this/that, it’s tooooooooooooo op!!!!!”
Actually at one point traits were like that. But too many people complained that it was too hard so they simplified it.
Actually you could have done that OR simply have bought them from the npcs in the mists. Nobody simplified anything, they simply added BOTH the options when they changed that.

In guild wars 1 there was a pet that was only available after you completed the story of one of the expansions. There are other pets in this game that require you to be a high level in hall of monuments.
For Christ’s sake, some things are supposed to be hard. You are supposed to have to put in effort to get them. That’s what makes showing them off worth it. What’s next, are you going to ask for free legendary weapons?
Yeah right, so why shoud we have to hope that a megaevent with hundreds of people succeed to have access to a pet, and not by completing the story like they did with the phoenix?
The two pets in this game that “that require you to be a high level in hall of monuments” are simply two skins for other pets (raven and spider) that you can obtain in the world, thay DON’T have any particular skill, so you don’t need them at all if you don’t want them.
Things are supposed to be hard? I don’t have any problem if some pet appears after a particular event, like smokescale, but doing that with a huge event like that is simply STUPID, like your comment about free legendaries. Weapons and armors ARE something you have to work for, not a pet that’s part of the ranger’s mechanic. Like someone said before, we’re the only class facing this problem. And if you like things to be hard, why don’t you ask for elite skills and traits to be obtainable only after defeating particular world bosses or events, like in GW1 when you had to search for them all over the world?
i believe that they are not seperated out into pieces so that they don’t have to do the usual long and difficult clipping/quality test process on every combination of pieces
tell me when they did that process in the past, because nearly every piece of armor clips with another if not with the char model too (example: one of the medium hoods when you hold a bow, at least with a female human char)
The last part of personal story needs nerf
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

it’s simply ridicoulous that you have to repeat FROM THE BEGINNING all the fights. Especially if you die because your glider doesn’t open, or the ground where the portal is COLLAPSES and you cant reach it anymore if not without restarting again hopin that will be fixed etc etc…it’s simply a boring and poor design, and if you encounter one bug you’re kittened and have to restart everything
What a coincidence I noticed the same thing! Suddenly the expansion has turned the majority in to terrible players with no skill or sense.
it’s not the expansion, it’s people that only think about rewards when doing bosses or during big events. Or simply being kittens.
I understand if a waypoint is near and you can be back in no time, because that’s simply the most intelligent thing to do, but in all other cases it’s simply stupid. Sometimes people even screams in chat to not res others…oh yes lose maybe a third or more of players and wait for them to die, respawn and be back after a minute or more when you can easily res them in a few seconds without problems and kill the boss/whatever faster and without added risks…very smart move indeed.
I think we’re all here to have fun, and I’ve played too many games filled with frustrated people that consider the game more important than to be respectful with others (well GW2 is not an exception, when you do pvp, but luckily a lot less than other games), so why shouldn’t we help each other when needed?
I always like to res people, especially when there are risks around. It’s like a challenge itself, apart from being altruist. To be honest I always found good helping players around in GW2, with very few exceptions. What some people don’t seem to understand it’s that in the new maps these risks are a lot higher to end up dead together with the already dead or downed ones, and often pretend to be ressed immediately (and whines or asks multiple times if you don’t do that in the fastest way).
It would be also nice to say a little thank you when someone res you and not only after, at least the resser knows that he’s not risking his virtual life on an afk player.
that was a great concert, btw
if ur in a na server i can show u, its pretty easy, just map has to be in night mode
you don’t need the chopper to go there
aaaand the smokescale got nerfed…
a guide from some dev would be really helpful, it’s ridicoulous that we have to go thru all this just to tame some pets
the new launcher is simply ugly with all that green, hope they bring back the red…like it is now, and with that green login button, seems like I’ve won the spitting contest of Monkey Island by practicing on my monitor
