If by “1 day and 2 day” you’re saying you received 2 gold (currency) over the course of two days, then I know what happened.

Achievement rewards were added and you may be retroactively receiving your rewards for that.

You will recieve 1 reward per day until you reach your current Achievement Points (rewards are given for every 500.)

OTHERWISE, what everyone else is saying is correct and you got mystic coins.

PSA: How Farming Works

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

It’s amazing how simple it is when you think about it, but few people actually really think about it.

I’ve seen so many different posters that want things like:

  • Profits to be hard capped at the exact level/time in which they play
  • Exclusive (maybe even overpowered) items that only they (in their dreams) can get for beating some sort of “challenging” content and no one else can obtain
  • A TP tax increase that magically makes things cost less somehow and sends agents out to TP flippers’ houses to give them spankings
  • All farmers banned for exploiting
  • Legendaries as drops with a chance so low that maybe 1 person (hopefully the poster right?) will get in all of GW2’s run time
  • An item so powerful that it shuts down the servers that is locked behind content so hard that nobody ever gets it
  • Refunds on the game because it does not pay them gold automatically
  • Removal of the trading post
  • Removal of legendaries
  • Moving legendaries to cost gems and removal of the ingame gem currency exchange
  • Banning story progressing players for “trolling” the coil farm
  • Subscriptions added to the game
  • New content magically released every day with old content removed behind it
  • Challenge missions that reward legendaries but ban players who try and fail
  • TP flipping classified as an exploit
  • Account gold capped at 1,000
  • Names posted on the trading post so the community can hate on them for flipping

And no, I did not make any of these up.

So good job OP. You’re thinking on the right track. However, I’m not 100% on your side, but that’s OK. The goal is to focus on preventing one playstyle (farming) from obstructing the others. Not to remove that playstyle all together. The more people know about farming, the better. Even if they don’t want to do it.

Which is why I’m not necessarily agreeing with the chest farm statement though. As it was threatening the success of the meta event because people need an extra 50 IQ points to figure out they can do both at the same time. In addition, the chest farm creates champ bags which create around 1-8s per open which does cause inflation. Again, I have no opposition to opening the chests, but it should be done along with the events rather than instead of the events.

As much as I think it’s a bit immature that the history of our language has lead us to use disabilities/sexual orientation as insults, I also think language is dynamic thing. Words mean different things to millions of people now than they did before. Often times the original definition of a word is left hanging on by a single strand, struggling against the overwhelming flood.

Language happens when the receiver understands what the sender is conveying. If “dumb” were a more recent thing, I’d see cause for concern. However, it has been transformed by the sins of our past. Very few people even remember the disability when they say it. For that reason, it would be illogical to assume they are insulting you.

As far as my personal opinion on the matter: I just don’t want to see anything else conveniently get bugged out of the game like the female human idle animation.

I’ll be quite honest, that asuran phrase is probably my favorite line that comes from player characters. At no point did I ever link it with a disability.

Actually it’s generally not good to kill off characters at all. There’s a time and place, but its rarer than most writers think. It’s thought of as the easymode solution to inflicting some sort of deep feeling on either another character or the reader/watcher.

Personally I’m not too bothered by the way they handled Belinda. Though I was hoping they would do more with her. However, if they did do more with her I’d suggest she not die at all.

Just saying all of these suggestions to have made her more like Tybalt and the others aren’t as grand as they sound. I’ll be honest, on my first playthrough I liked Forgal. When he died I didn’t feel despair or loss, I just felt “oh great, so they’re doing it this way.”

If you want some good examples of death/leaving actually affecting the audience, check out the show M*A*S*H.

Combat is TOO DIFFICULT

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

I would also like to mention that the personal story missions were not designed to be tanked. The NPCs that fight along side of you do very little damage, yet somebody has to get the enemies out of the way.

Six enemies picking away at high defense player are still more dangerous than six enemies who are dead. You can run Soldier gear if you want Toughness and Vitality, but having that Power stat is crucial for solo play. Healing Power and healing in general are going to feel very subpar compared to other MMOs. Heals are more of a utility and often don’t make a sustained tank.

Some other tips:

  • Ranged weapons (scepter) tend to be very good in personal story
  • If a red circle does not immediately do damage, WALK out of it, do not DODGE out of it unless you have to
  • Your stability skills are Hallowed Ground and “Stand Your Ground”. Also “Save Yourselves!” will break you out of a stun
  • Never underestimate traits

ANET addressing 1h Sword

in Ranger

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

Its very simple, some people have zero issue with how it currently is.

So they say, but that’s called pride. They choose to overlook the situations where they accidentally pressed 1 one too many times and the game picked a random direction and launched them off the cliff. Or the times where their finger got tired after long hours of play due to mashing 1 over and over (and over). Or most importantly, where they couldn’t dodge until 0.02 seconds too late despite the fact that they played cautiously with the 1-1-1-1 mashing.

But noOOoo, this is the “l2p” community where we don’t have a stat website with our K/D ratios so we get to make up just how good we are and tell everyone else how much they suck.

I really don’t see what would be so bad about letting us interrupt the skills with dodge. I’ve been playing ranger as my main since release (with roughly 2 months of break) and the 1h sword has been my primary weapon for most of that time. I’m very PvE sided.

Every update I jump down to the patch notes to the ranger and look for sword changes.

Like the rest of you, I’m scared to death that once they notice it they’ll nerf it (and then buff the warrior’s axe just to spite us,) but something does need to be done. Even though I’ve gotten good at choosing my situations and halting my 1-1-1-1 spam to prepare for a bailout, my finger still gets tired after of couple of long boss fights and I still consider the fact that my DPS drops a little bit when I have to stop attacking to prepare for a dodge.

Best

Zephyr Sanctum
- Kite fortunes were a nice bonus to all of the game’s content (they could drop anywhere) and they had a selection of cool rewards tied to them.
- The achievements for jumping/finding all of the crystals were cool
- Belcher’s Bluff was cool
- Sanctum Sprint was awesome
- The map itself was great and drew a lot of social attention
- Achievements were easy to acquire within two weeks but not so easy that they only took two hours
- Interesting lore

Worst

Tequatl
- If we wanted to do the “new thing” those two weeks we had to wear our fingers numb and sit for hours just to get in the event
- Virtually no noticeable scaling making the event possible on non-max maps
- Literally close to no developer communication, our concerns about overflows, rewards and AFK turrets recieved no response until a patch after the event
- Effectively removed one boss from an already working world-event rotation we already had going
- No living story content aside from talking to Rox and finding dragon shards
- A GOOD thing though: I feel like the changes to the other world bosses are indeed an improvement. Inquest Golem Mark II is actually fun now for example.

Hmm this is tough, there’s a lot of great ideas.

Guess I’ll go with:

1. Player housing: I mean most of horizontal progression is collecting nice things right? Once we can’t fit any more on our bodies, it’d be nice to have something else to decorate.

2. More non-gem armors/clothes: Because gems aren’t all that horizontal. BONUS: Add out of combat first person zoom so we can more easily look-at/screenshot people in their nice new stuff.

3. Any sort of quest/hard mode/whatever that applies to solo content. I’ve been having a hard time finding stuff to do by myself. (Note: co-oping with randoms in open world still counts as solo content because we’re not tied together.)

Three problems:

1. ArenaNet already puts a lot of constant work into GW2. It just isn’t the stuff that you listed (despite the fact that we want that stuff.) So the theory that they are doing less for the game because they can’t afford it is kinda moot.

2. The game makes a ton of money from the cash shop, probably more than it would make if it was a sub based game.

3. GW1 had no sub-fees and very little as far as microtransactions until AFTER GW2 was planned. Up until that point it received 4 new classes, loads of new features, hundreds of new skills and 2 completely new world maps plus a very large expansion to Tyria’s map.

Dungeon Patch Discussion 2/26

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

I personally play Ranger as my main, so I’m fairly aware of how to manage the pet, and do my testing as a ranger primarily. What mechanic do you feel is expressly punishing to a ranger pet?
I’m more than aware of how squishy pets can be in dungeons, but if you could list out all the issues you are speaking of, I can try and address them.

Likely referring to AoE circles and anything that does massive amounts of damage in one shot.

Pets do not have a dodge roll and the return to me feature doesn’t substitute for melee rangers (because the pets won’t go very far while running away.) Even at a range, it has to be used very preemptively.

That’s what I’m guessing, I noticed the red circles in AC have gotten very brutal and that’s the latest major dungeon change I can think of.

Another neat dungeon ranger feature that is currently broken is the skill Search and Rescue. I run a fairly tight guild dungeon group, but I’ve sacrificed the temporary damage boost of QZ (which I was commonly using on rezzes anyway) to equip this skill. Since rezzing is one of the top causes of chain deaths I bring S&R to help alleviate that risk.

However, it has a list of issues and some are more skill balance/fix related but a few may fall into your department.

1. The S&R cooldown is wasted if:
-You are out of range (no range indicator either)
-Your pet is dead (it can be seen as unskillful to activate a pet skill while a pet is dead, but we have seen that the game can be forgiving to warriors who miss with their burst attack [aka no adrenaline is drained and the skill goes on a very short cooldown])

2. Your pet stands over the downed player and does nothing.
- Lick Wounds has this issue as well
- Seems to be an AI, geometry or skill range issue

3. In maps with many dead NPCs (Ascalon Fractal) your pet may waste S&R on one of them rather than a player.

Another issue is certain maps have platforms to jump across (like the uncategorized fractal) which pets can’t jump across to help attack your target.

Pets can not pick up crystal shards so they serve to slow down the Jade Maw fight when they are targeted.

In general, pets require constant attention in dungeons and are often guaranteed to die and trigger the brutal 60 second cooldown between the next swap. Often unavoidable as many dungeon bosses and veterans incorporate 1-shot high damage skills that destroy pets ruthlessly.

I know you play ranger and rangers can do dungeons. I play ranger too because I enjoy the skills more than those of warriors, but I since my guild and I have run dungeons so much, we’ve taken an interest in optimizing the run times down. Often I find that being a warrior speeds things up, making it ultimately a better class to play in dungeons with an experienced group overall.

Rangers aren’t the only class competing with warriors over efficiency, but if dungeons weren’t destroying our pets we wouldn’t be quite as far behind the less micro-managey warriors.

My 2 cents. I play ranger a lot. I’ve tried a few builds but with the lack of a good PvE build testing area (similiar to the heart of the mists) it becomes way expensive to try builds that require different gear. I mainly do berserker/cavalier with 1h/axe (thanks to the buff we just got on axe offhand) and longbow (LB compliments melee better than SB IMO).

I’m not someone who likes gambling on keys, but I couldn’t not have a shot at such a fashionable prize! …..

Gotta hand it to Anet.

Well there’s nothing wrong with buying gems if you can afford it. If you stop buying food to instead buy gems to try for a chance at an item that in the end is meaningless to anyone but you while you play a cyber-game… well, THEN you have a problem. And let’s face it, 99% of the GW2 population can’t afford to shell out 3500g (in game wealth) for one item, cuz… nerfs.

Purchasing gems isn’t the issue, gambling is, and it is incredibly stupid no matter how much money you have.

  • Black Lion Delivery Dolyak – Don’t have enough time to run from your house to the trading post representative in the center of the neighborhood? Select “Deliver Black Lion Goods” in your inventory options while you’re out exploring to have a dolyak make the trip for you. The delivery price is 10 silver. You may also opt to use dolyak delivery in your auto-crafting UI should your buy order for materials be fulfilled while you are away or offline.

Wasp’s Notes:
I think this section is clear in how it can affect horizontal progression. I also added a few things that did not, just because I was getting in the spirit of a fantasy update. One thing that isn’t written is exactly how much time Eminence would take to max out or just how much you could display in your house. I did that on purpose because this is a pretty extensive update and I can see some value in a discovery period for this content. Since this is imaginary I’ll say as a player I would like to be pleasantly surprised by just how much the game allows me to show off in terms of achievements as well as having great plans for future additions. I would also request (to the story team) that the NPCs in the neighborhood zones be more subtle than elsewhere in the world and that the dialogue and story focus would be player character centric.

Also look at the framework we just built for potential future features:

  1. We opened up the title system and modified it to allow colored titles leaving the possibility of legendary titles and character (not account) based titles.
  2. With a focus on QoL account and character features as a bonus to having a house, we could also look into tracking combat statistics for better build testing.
  3. The festival grounds allow for wedding ceremonies and parties. Maybe even guild hosted events. Some would be represented through the game’s features and others just roleplayed by players.
  4. The SAB jukebox already exists in the game, we can use it as a base for creating a system that allows for music selection within a house.
  5. The neighborhood could also be used to hold a GW1 style pet menagerie for rangers. Pets should eventually be kept there instead of following players around while in a neighborhood.

Alright back to imaginary update poster mode:

PVE CHANGES AND NEW CONTENT

  • Changes to event rewards — Open world dynamic events are no longer subject to diminishing returns. Some larger, longer or end-of-chain events were given increased gold, experience and karma rewards for participation. In addition, completing any event now yeilds a rare chance at a chest containing a blueprint for furniture themed by region.
IE. Doing Ascalon events is your best chance at charr furniture or decorations.
  • New collectables — Paper, Stone and Tar now drop and salvage from enemies and items. Salvaging signets will always yield stone, underwater kills and tar elementals can drop tar and humanoid enemies (bandits, nightmare court, skritt, inquest .etc) may drop paper. These new materials are used in the crafting of housing decorations and copying blueprints.
  • Paint — Paint is a new drop type similar to dye, however colors are unlocked by account and not by character. Collect them all for maximum house coloring options. Some decoration recipes require unused specific paint colors to craft.
  • Boast challenges — In certain parts of the world you may partake in boast challenges that hinder your character while you attempt to do normal content. Currently we have added two challenges to Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateu.

The challenge in Wayfarer Foothills involves disabling downed state (if you would get downed you get defeated instead) while attempting to survive combo kills. Every time you draw fire from five or more enemies and defeat them you gain a point. But watch out! Competive norn will sneak up and ambush you during your most stressful moments.

The charr in Diessa Plateu are seeking out the toughest cook of all time. Accept their challenge and you’ll find yourself dressed like a chef with only a frying pan for a weapon. With greatly reduced armor levels and a unique set of frying pan skills you must vanquish 50 enemies of 7 different varieties before the time is up. Complete the task in record time for a greater reward.

Temporarily, the rewards for completing boasts are one, two or three champion loot bags depending on how well you did.

Wasp’s notes:
Boast challenges were an idea I had a month or so after release because I felt we needed an open world alternative to hardmode that does not separate you or the zone instance from the other players fighting normal enemies. I would suggest filling the worlds with these until they can be incorporated into a 200% world completion system.

Sword Auto Attack

in Ranger

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

On my Ranger, I have logged 3,707 hours. I started using sword since launch, even before the meta builds formed. I still use it, it is my MAIN weapon receiving more focus, priority and dedication than any other weapon in the game on any class.

I still disagree with how it works.

It does have one advantage, and I kind of agree with the OP on this. It FEELS powerful, aggressive and when in some situations even satisfying. However, here comes a massive list of bullet points of where it falls short.

PvE (This is my main game. I’ve Rangered through exploration, farms, story, LS2 challenges, Liadri, Fractals, Dungeon Master, Dungeoneer, solo holding SW forts .etc)

  • Aside from the Lyssa boss in Malchor’s Leap, I can’t think of any other case where the sword’s leap/chase was of any advantage in PvE over free movement.
  • Whenever I need to type something to the party during melee in a casual fractal, my attacking stops because of the need to have auto-attack off.
  • Turning off auto-attack is nowhere near flawless in preventing accidents. Two days ago a party member or two heavy-bursted an enemy dead on a platform a split second before I had the chance to not-press 1 again.
  • The free movement of the greatsword feels better than sword overall. Shame it doesn’t do much damage.
  • Any weapon that relies heavily on the ESC key, I cannot suggest. ESC’s cancel functionality cannot be rebound to a more convenient key.
  • Skills 2 and 3 are very nice, but they have a relatively high failure rate. In PvE there are even some cases (Tequatl for example) where their evasion is completely ignored by attacks that still can’t hit regular old dodge rolls.
  • Sword AA will always “push” an aggroed enemy back. This can greatly annoy your party. There’s nothing you can do to stop it because enemies tend to back away from point blank attackers. Unlike with other melee weapons, sword does not have the option to stand back and keep swinging.
  • Ironically the sword can still be annoying in stacks because you can’t position yourself inside the enemy like everyone else.
  • You can’t take advantage of using your camera angle in addition to untargetted swinging when surrounded by mobs. If you do this, you will leap away. That’s often undesired.
  • Any competent player can chase a target they crippled. They don’t even need the leaps to help them.

PvP (I’m not an expert here, but I have experience. I am Tiger rank. 99% of my PvP experience is on Ranger. I almost always win in 1v1 scenarios against other Rangers.)

  • Sometimes the sword is great, sometimes it isn’t. I found that early on, it helped me chase foes a lot, but not quite as much anymore. In certain fights against enemies with teleports or wide movements, I can even get thrown off. If they don’t have minions, teammates or clones for me to swing at then the sword AA won’t even help me leap at them in that case.
  • In contrast, I have no problem chasing with the greatsword.
  • My best sword moments usually accompanied point tanking condi builds where skills 2 and 3 were part of the evasion-tanking and the AA was only really used to help slam fools who stuck around. The chasing intention of it was pretty much ignored.

In conclusion: I’m not a top level PvP player, but I do quite well in PvE. If anything, the sword’s AA functionality has no place in PvE. I can see a few good uses in PvP, but I can also see enemies learning how to turn it against us if builds including it became too popular.

I suffer through it because I love Ranger and I love swords. I still dream of a brighter future for this otherwise wonderful weapon.

We’ve seen the community shoot down suggestions just because of the way the rest of the community would react. (Ex. In-game marriage because people are afraid of guild drama and map-chat dating.)

This is what the OP was probably considering. This is what the devs considered.

The idea wasn’t to subdue negative feedback. It was to remove non-feedback, trolling and lies that only serve to bury our more legitimate threads.

"Play How I Want" Is Gone

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

Lemme do a quick rundown of the things I personally agree/disagree with.

1. World Bosses, I prefer them the way they are now
2. Home Worlds, I don’t touch WvW much so I can’t comment here. I do like having people around to do events
3. Unlocking Traits, I agree with this one. I thought the point of leveling was to learn you class/build. Right now leveling just delays us from using our class.
4. Unlocking Skills, Honestly I think the new system might have some merits for actual new players. HOWEVER, I don’t see why it isn’t bypassed entirely when making alts.
5. Personal Story, I can’t really speak to this one as I almost always quit PS right before or after Claw Island.
6. Exploration, Yeah. If people can’t figure out how to feed a cow then I think GW2 is a bit above their level. I like the event tracker though.
7. Dailies, Still testing it. However I find it funny that they bother to have a cap at all. It would take 1500 daily completions to reach the daily AP cap of 15,000 from 0. Everyone who got comfortable when the cap was introduced and reduced their dailies to 5/6 a day is kicking themselves right now. The rewards were supposed to motivate us to do these things, but for a guy with 4mil karma and 8 level 80s, eh not really.

You also forgot:

8. Outfits, The ability to wear them in combat is neat and I feel they are being used way more now. However, town clothes and mixing and matching bit the dust and many of the best skins have been converted to inflexible and undyeable tonics. Furthermore, with the introduction of outfits, it’s getting harder and harder to go back to mix’n’matchable armor as there is a noticeable gap in graphical quality.

If that helps at all.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DarkWasp.7291

Why is it that everybody thinks PvP when we talk about first person view?

>>>>> Nobody ever said it has to work while in combat. <<<<<

We don’t WANT to see our hands or weapons either. We just want unobstructed views of scenery.

Dodge mechanic makes Zerker builds viable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

A mechanic that allows skilled players to defeat content is a good mechanic for an action based game. This is by design to allow actual skill to play an important role in fights instead of relying on gear.

I like what you’re saying, but the OP is actually asking for enemies to have faster attacks. Sure they’d be smaller hits to balance it out.

So the idea isn’t to invalidate the dodge mechanic. It’s to make it so not every encounter is easily dodgeable.

For example, that annoying boss at the end of HotW P1 actually makes condition and ranged builds seem more viable in pugs because he’s a bit more dangerous to melee than most enemies.

And no I’m not an anti-zerker advocate either. All of my characters are zerker and I love that playstyle.

  • First person zoom that is disabled in PvP, WvW and in-combat for PvE.
  • Just temporarily hire some poor college grad who’s been looking for a job for 1+ years and have him/her go through every item in the game and FINALLY ORGANIZE THE TRADING POST.
    Please?
  • Retain guild chat upon character swap.
  • Make ranger (and Necro) pets only vulnerable to certain attcks at Tequatl and go ahead and let them do damage at the sparring rock. IF AND WHEN pets become a problem at these things, THEN you can nerf them. Stop trying to anticipate exploits with pets and just let it all play out first. There are plenty of other no-brainer exploits to think about.

Sorry to be harsh on that one, but that one is harsh on us.

Most difficult living world achievement

in WvW

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

I think they are just a little bit conflicty. There are no achievements for defending for example. I saw plenty of cases where people asked if we could let SM get taken so we could take it back.

Sentry and camp capping achievements lead to people running ahead of/away from their commander to go do their own thing.

If it were up to me I would:

Trim camps to 50
Trim yaks and sentries to 100
Increase kills to 1000

If this is intentional because some of the community did not have a sense of humor during April 1st: I would be sad.

  • I do like the followers list
  • - If you are struggling with harassment, report it for sure
  • Mine has more than 30 people on it, but only the top two ever come online
  • There should be a way to clean it without removing its functionality.
  • A Hide Inactive button perhaps?

Why children don't play a role in gw2?

I think the children are placed appropriately in GW2.

Except they don’t get your character sick with the flu enough.

GW2 needs more germ spreading.

He once submitted a ticket to tell them that they broke the visual effects (this was shortly after they broke it) and they responded saying that he should make a suggestion to see if other people want the effects….

No, yeah…

…because we totally want something that we spent 250 of each T6 mat on to be limited to brief effects that are very hard to see in the daylight and almost as hard to see in the night.

world bosses, thieves they die so fast and have no real ranged option.

Ahahaha, are you kidding me? Pistol, dual pistol, pistol/dagger and shortbow are not real ranged options? And, sure, thieves are squishy, but survivable, if you’re doing it right.

900 range. Without a bazooka, they’re shafted at Claw of Jormag, for example. Hell, even Guardians have 1200 range on scepter and staff.

Yeah but you can totally run in to 900 range, get a few shots off, get downed, and warp back safely to 1200 range where people will rez you!

Why would it be retroactive though?

If I buy a car and then a year later buying said car also gives you a set of tires, should I suddenly get that set of tires just because I bought that car at one time?

Well it’s digital, so if they are feeling generous it won’t cost them like sending everyone a new set of tires.

I AM ETERNALLY GRATEFUL

This is amazing. I never though the world could feel old and new at the same time. On one hand the GW1 nostalgia is flooding back as I explore Tyria. On the other, there’s things in the world that seem new because I never noticed them before. Did anyone ever realize how good a gatherable herb sprout looks on the edge of a snowy mountain? Did anyone ever look down a tall cliff and actually feel how far down everything below was?

Simply climbing up and down stairs is a total “LETS DO IT AGAIN!” moment. Staring off in the distance at 7 players fighting centaurs on a bridge has never felt so real! Sometimes I look up and find out I’m not actually in a cave, and there’s neat trees and rocks above me giving way to the sky. I can tell if its night or day!

Brandon, you’re the best!

First person zoom did not turn out like I had suggested. It turned out WAY better!

1. Chat improvements.

Why?: This has been on my list of top 3 fix wishes since day 1. I absolutely DREAD the idea of dropped communication, and that’s what we’re getting right now. The chat suggestions are great, but the most important part to take away from them would be that guild chat no longer should get erased when swapping a character or AFKing too long.

2. Guild members showing up on the mini map.

Why?: Sometimes I see people are in the same zone, but I’m always hesitant to party them. If I do that they either feel obligated to stick around longer than they intended to, or bail out fast. Partying has sort of a commitment feeling attached. If I could see them on the map, I could go sneak up on them without the party. I’ve found this usually leads to longer cooperation or future, more purposeful, partying.

I had a third but I forgot.

Ranged and easy build for old-man reflexes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

Don’t be so rough on yourself.

When I first started playing I would pop some of the tankiest gear and still end up dead on the ground with my fellow comrades over and over. Several jumping puzzles would take me almost an hour to finish.

While yes, I’m in my mid twenties, the point still stands. You get better at the game the more you play it.

I would advise against ranger for dungeons as a starter class as you really need to focus on swapping your pet, and that’s a potential distraction. Warrior and Guardian are the easiest classes, and melee is generally easier than range in dungeon groups these days. It seems ironic, but ranged players cause chaos. If you get downed while in melee, there will be 4 people nearby to rez you up.

Speedrun Meta...Fractals, Raids

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

Don’t think of other players as hostile. Some can be, but not all and that’s not the point.
Elitism is certainly not the reason ArenaNet decided to nerf dungeon rewards.

When developers talk about breaking the meta, they are not condemning the players for creating it. They are trying to make new content that will be a new experience and a new challenge for those same players.

So think of it like:
“Good job, now see if you can beat THIS!”

It’s not meant as a form of punishment to crack down on elitism. The creation of challenging content is meant to reward players who have developed their skills with new content better suited for them. The phasing out of old content rewards is to remove the motivation to ignore the new content because of easier rewards in the old content.

Loot rolling question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

Actually there’s 2 answers to this.

1. The champ’s loot is determined when the champ is killed.
Here’s an example which will help:
Suppose you killed a veteran air elementalist and it dropped a Charged Lodestone. You would see a wooden chest appear on the ground. That drop was determined BEFORE you hit the loot button. It is the RESULT of the Charged Lodestone that you’re seeing the chest. The lodestone IS NOT the result of the chest.

2. The champ loot bag’s contents (Embriodered Coin Purse for example) are not determined until the moment when you open them.

And to answer your other question. If you die and run back, that should have no affect on what you get for loot, provided you return fast enough.

Lets talk about the new Gem conversion [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DarkWasp.7291

DarkWasp.7291

Another note:

While a 100 increment would be better, it still leaves amounts in the 10s and 1s un-accounted for. So I have 180 gems right now. I can no longer make that into an even 200 with just 20 more gems.

So that’s one of the issues you could expect if it’s implemented that way.

(Looks like WindFall got it first. Posts are flying here today :P)
