I like the idea of the weekly tournament. I wouldn’t do it during 7 days, I would do it in one day. Because it’s hard to play every day for the most ppl.
What i have fear from is the rewards. It would be the same as in paids, just with higher rewards. Becaus you have the 4-5 topteams who will farm the top places and then you have the average-casual players who will loose defenitely. I would wait with these weekly tournaments and focus on the guild modus (1v1) with a ladder and matchmaking. So you get more guilds/teams into pvp who play together and reach a higher level with time.
This weekly tournament will be genius, but you need a big guild/coreteam pool to get it interesting. Let’s say 32 teams in it. It would be easier to get some wins for the casual one as not fighting every match against a top-team.

What I see now is mabye 8 core teams and some random-grpped teams qeue up for paids and wait. Especially during the day or after midnight, paid is dead. So first you need to get paid lively with more competitive guilds.

Thanks for the reply, but… what exactly am I claiming that isn’t true?
Prior to the 25 June update, necromancers were asking for an improvement in their survivability, and possibly a sort of small cover condition.
We were given burning.
After the patch, necromancers were worried that burning was too much up-front damage, so they started asking ArenaNet to take it away and replace it with the newly introduced condition, torment.
The PvP community realized what necromancers were worried about, and started to use terror/dhuumfire builds which, coupled with the new spectral wall, enabled the necromancers to pile on conditions and execute a ~5 second CC with a continuous damage component.
In response to that, the necromancer community was ignored, and terror was nerfed.
Necromancers continued to voice their disapproval, and they were still being ignored. PvPers continued to voice their disapproval, and within 24 hours, a thread made by a well known PvP player who has pretty much zero experience with actually playing the class, and absolutely no experience with playing the class outside the terror/dhuumfire build, caused the devs to comment, and introduce a hotfix, destroying dhuumfire for PvP. This is the first PvP-only fix in the sequence. The other nerfs, such as terror and death shroud single-hit tanking potential, were not reverted.

The devs then assure the PvP community that more permanent changes are upcoming. The devs still continue to make absolutely no comments in the necromancer subforum. All of the balance communication that affects all aspects of the game in 99% of the cases is still limited to the PvP subforum.

What exactly do I claim here that is not true?

1. Classes are too independent. There is nearly no synergy between them.
Is there any plan to make teamwork actually reliable in this game?

2. They told in 2012, they would fix AoE and its impact on conquest. Till today, AoE is still the most effective form of damage. Are they still looking into this?

PPL still don’t get, that the problem of balance doesn’t rely so much on classes, but rather the whole concept of skillz and traits. AoE, which has been discussed heavily, is just one aspect of it.

So what ppl do, including me, is come into the forum and ask for nerfs/buffs. What we should keep in mind is that not the class needs a fix. The system overall needs one. And for sure it needs it really fast. Otherwise I don’t see this game ever being considered as an E-Sport.

The main part of necro being over the top dmg-wise are the marks. You can compare that to Grenades from the HGH. But without any counter to it (projectile-reflection), nor does the necro need skill to place them. They are instant (no travelling of procteile whatsoever), they are unblockable, when not triggered they remain on ground and the area of these marks are horendous. Marks are one of the main reasons why necro doesn’t require any skill at all. While grenades required you to predict the movement (also the area was slightly smaller) they had also an obvious animation, where ppl could actually dodge them. This part of depth is lost with marks in place. You can predict them but nothing else. Animation of it is not obvious and look all the same.

Another part of the problem is that the rank is not an indicator for real tournament experience. If A-Net realized at release that something was wrong with it, found a solution like only giving rank-points through tournament play and split glory to only hotjoin while making it viable for something, mabye they could have taken rank as a factor into consideration for the MMR.
Now they can’t because they kittened it up. Mabye they should consider the number of tournament wins instead.

The problem with hotjoin is not it’s absurd, abyssal niveau of play-level, but the rewarding itself for playing it. This has nothing to do with elitism if smn says tournament should be more rewarded than hotjoin. Tournament needs stricly organized teamplay, it needs strategical effort and has much more depth. Hotjoin on the other hand is for fun or casual players, who want to play 2-3 games a day. That’s absolutely fine. The problem overall is the distribution of rewards/points.

Casual-modes should never be more rewarding than competitive-modes. Compare that to a nurse and a medical deputy. A nurse should never earn more money than the deputy. This analogy shows you clearly, what is wrong with hotjoin at the moment. I hope you got it by now, Romek. The bad habbits you’ll get from hotjoin are just a side-effect and don’t bother me really.

I DEMAND that all Anet employees have to play the game at least 4 hours out of 8 during their WORK TIME and be PAID for it. Also at a request of anet employee working in spvp this PAID TIME can be extended to 6 hours out of 8 without the superior manager being allowed to say no. i want to see them Anets working themselves to top rating and know every kitten thing about balance that there is to know :P because when i read this “we work 9 hours and play the game in our off time”.. well thats a sad story imo.

Would you also be happy for the bi monthly patches to be changed to once every two months as a result of this, because by cutting down their actual work time this would be a result.

Well they have to find a balance. A balance patch every 2 weeks, that creates such scenarios as the recent one is not productive either. And after that they need 2 weeks more to try fix the unbalance they created. And sometimes it didn’t work out, so they have to sit another 2 weeks at it, to get back at status Quo.
The scenario by Steelo shouldn’t be over an unlimited period either, but for, let’s say 1 month, to get into this game, and actually understand which pattern they have to shift.

Theory is good, but without actual practice, it looses its worth.

This class needs to be banned for your PAX tournament!!! My Team wont participate, this Game actually is unplayable, plz wake up devs…. you can’t be serious at the moment…

Just broken if you see no names running dbl Necro and you cant do anything about this… Brainless facerolling on the point, you need no timing, no teamplay, just spam your AOE kitten out.

Fear has to be nerfed to 1 time available for OPmancer, remove burning, lower this awesome weakness spam… If you want any enjoyable games at your Pax TN you have to edit the rules by ban the Necro class fully from this, you will not be able to fix this class in time.

I think they allrdy know by now that they completely ruined PAX by messing up the balance. Beside your team, many others stopped playing tPvP till the spamancer-meta is dissapearing.

Where you could read all the skillz and see them with the animation, now it’s only the animation. And the animation you only learn through playing the class. And most ppl (mostly casuals) refuse to play every class.

A lot of persons allrdy brought up to implement the old Champion-Titles from GW1 into GW2, which could be achieved above a certain rating (1.200+ Rating).

In the situation nowadays we have two problems:
Ranks (1-80) are more an indicator of how long you played and not how skilled you actually are.

The actual Champion-Titles in GW2 are just an indicator that you won a tournament 150 times with a certain class.

To fix this and give a incentive to be “good” (and also having a prestige-symbol as a top-player), I’d like to bring up a new Title-Format for PvP.

Naturally this suggestion makes only sense if paired with the new Leaderboard-Ratings (when they are visible for players):

Example: If YOU are above a certain Rating and win against a team which is also above this certain rating, you would get a point added to the New-Title. (The title should be account-based and not class-based)
Also the title should have several Rank-Steps, like e.g. the Gladiator-Title.

Surely this affects not everyone (casual players, soloQuers), but would be a good motivation to give an incentive to team-up with other ppl and bring back the competition, which this game really is lacking of.
In a second step, if SoloQ and PremadeQ are seperated in the game and on leaderboards, this could be also implemented for the Solo-Que-Top-Players.

Problems:
-ppl that aren’t that ambitious or haven’t that much time are surely disadvantaged.
-how can the game decide if a team, as every single player, is above this rating.

Off the topic: Does no one find it funny that everyone has already settled that every single competitive team must have a guardian? …

It’s worth looking at why. Are guardians too good at bunker, or do other professions just need improved. What do guardians have, such as plentiful stability, that other bunkers don’t?

If it was about Stability people would just put Warriors in mid. The fact is the Guardian has quite a few supportive shouts and skills that affect the flow of a team fight. AoE protection, AoE Stability, Wards, burning every 30 seconds, Might and that tiny bit of healing.
In order to get the same effect that a Guardian would in a team fight, you’d probably need two classes.

The AoE-Stability is what is making the guardian superior to other bunker-speccs. An ele can also provide condition-cleanse, even more heal and shares-boons. However, these 6 seconds of stability are so important, many ppl don’t realize it. It’s 6 seconds during your whole team is not affected by CC. Where we have pulls, fears, knocks etc. this AoE-Stability is a big aspect, why you actually can win a teamfight.

Forsaker and ventari showed pretty well whats wrong with where the balance in gw2 is heading to. not only powercreep but also AI, spammable abilities like dodging combined with boon stacking and stuff that has a too high influence of the outcome of a match. a good example of this is rallying, where teamfights are often manipulated through luck.

Tactics:
Send Ele and Guard to far point. When there are 3 or more opponents take the zerg with the 2 bunkers. (The idea here is to not let them cap their close point and to push them for sending ppl there to get it) If 2 or less, send the guard back to top.

Necro takes mid till guard arrives. If the guard has to stay far point because 3 opponents there, the necro tank mid. You should not diying against a bunker there. If you get another opponent to mid (lets say thief or necro) You will get support from your other two teammates. In this scenario you will face on far point the 2v3 (ele,guard) and on mid the 3v2 (mesmer,thief,necro).

The other “two teammates”: akka mesmer and thief. They make sure to defend the close point if opponents are pushing it. If you face the ele, burst him down. If you face 2 ppl you send the necro back to close.
The idea here is, if they send 2 ppl to your close point you will either face 3 on the far point or 2 on far point and 1 in mid or 2 in mid and 1 on far point.
As in this scenario a guard can hold 2 opponents and the ele can hold 2 opponents (not forever). you can outnumber them on your close point and then do the push with timewarp on top.
Not mentioned: the 3 opponent push on your close point. Actually that was in the first weeks a common tactic, which has lost its value these days. If you still face the 3 man push, this end in a 3v3. But rarely happens. And lot of ppl will follow the ele as they see him pushing on theire far point.

Edit: If you win the match on mid you send the guard near the far point to support your ele. the necro stays top and the mesmer will spec backdoor with thief to avoid a push to henge.

These are “static” tactics. So most of the time you need (especially the thief here) players initiative to push where they can do the most. And sure it’s everything about talking where opponents are, to rotate better.

To be honest I think it’s an issue of something that’s easier to play, but not necessarily more effective to play. Playing builds/compositions that can be played by (essentially) spamming things (whether it’s power damage, condi damage, evades, extreme bunkering, or whatever) is going to be a lot easier to play. When this happens these builds/compositions seem to scream “overpowered” in lower tiers of play. You kind of see this in other games as well.

I also think there’s some merit to the issue of something being new that you’re just not used to fighting. We see this a lot with builds when they first become popular.

Follidus = Dead on.

Necro pre-patch was probably the highest skill floor class in the game with Engineer being the only debatably close second. When the patch hit the bar got lowered (probably by a bit too much considering the post-patch offensive capabilities). People saw that Necro got massive changes, so everyone wanted to test them out. This lead to multiple necros winding up in solo que comps and rolling over teams that they had no business beating, because the teams will ill prepared for that kind of condition overload. Once people saw dual necro comps rolling over teams the bandwagon jumpers and QQers took over, so you have this odd state where everyone is playing a necro when in game and in their spare time they come to the forums to cry for nerf. This is stupidity.

Necro could stand a tweak, but in skilled play it isn’t wildly out of balance. They don’t need a nerf hammer. There are counters that work.

For people saying that DPS is not viable: You are flat wrong. Most of the time when I see a multi-necro comp on my opponents’ team I will character swap specifically to DPS in order to have the upper hand, and it has worked. You have to run some different skill sets than you would have before the patch, and you have to invest a little time getting competent with the new build that you run as a counter, but it isn’t a big deal.

When the next patch hits they are going to tweak more things, and there will be more change to the meta. Hopefully they raise the skill floor for Necro without destroying the top end capabilities, but we’ll see.

It doesn’t have to do something with high skillfloor or not. Necro pre-patch had to be babysitted by other classes to work. This has nothing to do with high-play, you need just a setup to work around necro. That is the same with the warrior now. You can build up a setup around this class and it’s working. But the deficit is overlapping the posivite aspects of this.

MiM for eg. played a long time with warrior. They had brought a bunker-ele to effieciently heal the warrior up, while the warrior can sustain enough to do the damage. This works pretty well in static teamfights, but as soon as you have to split your team up, that’s a heavy disadvantage.
The necro had the same problem. Since the patch his survivability hasn’t changed, but the effectiveness of his dmg-output is overhelming and replaced infact the old placeholder named HGH.

To summarize this: GW2 was created as a PvE-Game in mind. PvP was just an additional feature to get the majority of GW1 players in it and sell it as AAA-Title with E-Sports for the future. And now they try to adapt a PvE game into a PvP, which hardly work.

I don’t ussaually post in these forums but you make me lawl so hard that I took off on my lolerskates I’m only gonna slap a couple of your points down

@2 if you can’t kill an engy at 25% health u need to learn to manage CDs

@11 sig of spite shows a big yellow circle above necro head before goes off l2 dodge

@18 learn to aoe

@14 buy better connect or get off of your neighbors wifi

Your lack of knowledge is frightening.
@2: Passive traits that carry a player and totally negate a source of damage is absurd.
@11: You really are able to dodge this spell with all that clutter? I don’t know anyone who can do this.
@18: Mass Invis is still a mechanic that shouldn’t exist in any serious PvP environment. There is absolutely no counter to it, if it’s placed well enough.
@14: Everyone allrdy knows that the servers of arena-net/nc-soft whatever, are pretty bad and produce after every patch heavy lags.

Another couple of months while the 3 hard-counters (Berserker-Stance, Automated Response, Diamond-Skin) remain untouched. Besides some PvE-Changes and some more Powercreep, we won’t see anything going into the right direction concerning the state of balance.

Good to see activity from the develpment here. But all these points you promise us, were allrdy promised months ago. Especially the reward-system, which in my opinion, completely harmed the PvP-Population.
Especially the GW1-Veteran players. After ONE WEEK of gameplay they all came up with the question: What can I achieve to set myself apart from others. Skill? no. Titles? no. Emotes? no. It’s not rocket-science to create some sort of a minor reward-system. Don’t tell me something different.
