1) Well, in general, Selling alot of loot through the tp doesnt neccesarily mean high profits.
Of course, speculators for example will be hit with the higher tax (and can afford it) because they usually sell their supply during high demand spikes. But what about farmboi joe, who generates alot of gold just through farming mats all week long? Why should he be hit with higher tax while he does a good service to the community (keeping mat prices down while sinking more gold than generating gold)?
What about crafter Jenny, who refines iron worth 800g then sells it for 1000g per week, operating at a 5% profit margin after taxes? Your suggestion will destroy her business, while she also did a service to the community. People who rather paid her the 5% profit margin than refining themselves, have to do so now themselves or pay an additional 15% as a sink.
And even flippers/speculators who make lots of profit on the tp, in over 2 years this still hasnt been proven to be a problem for the economy. In fact, their operation benefits the economy in multiple ways, so why put the burden of gold sinking on them?

If gold inflation in GW2 seems to be a problem (which still has to be proven) why punish those that actively sink gold out of the economy? Shouldnt we punish those that are responsible for generating gold? Why not put extra tp taxes on dungeon runners, once they generate more than 100g per week from dungeon rewards (or any other gold rewarding playstyle)?

I am actually looking forward to it and I think they are on the right track because they released the intended changes so much beforehand. I guess it will be at least 2-3 months until these changes go live and by getting us in the loop now, they can act on the feedback they get from us. They also said that they will release them before HoT, so they have time to change them, if neccessary before HoT goes live and they will be busy with patching that up.

I dont know how they could possibly handle it better.

The Economy - Widening The Gap

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

No offense Wanze, but thats terrible logic.

Tell, how did gold get spread around more???

Can you say with a straight face that its easier to make gold for a new player now compared to before??? You do realize dungeons were the best source of actual gold for new players…

LESS gold IS ENTERING the game now, thats a fact since they nerfed the biggest gold printing area (dungs) and added gold sinks as well (like the nightfury crap).

this is done for one reason and one reason ONLY: to get more players (specifically, new players) buying gold from the gemstore.

OK, I will give it a last try. I think we just have a different point of view, you look at the situation from a micro-economic pov and I from a macro-economic pov.

I agree that with the dungeon nerf, the individual player has a harder time to target farm direct gold rewards. But that doesnt mean, that less gold is entering the market.

A simple example, fictional numbers.

Before, 5 people farmed dungeons for 1 hour and made 20 gold each, 100g total.
Now they upped the gold rewards in fractals and they used plenty of dev ressources to support fractals and will do so in the future. Now, for every 5 players that stop running dungeons, 20 new players will run fractals and earn 5g direct gold rewards from it, totaling 100g. The overall gold supply doesnt change, the only change that happened is that gold faucets stopped pouring into a fair few wallets and now drip into alot of wallets.
John Smith, the Game Economist, answered plenty of questions on reddit, after his blog post about economic changes (dungeons nerfs) was posted. Here is the link:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3ogusa/the_guild_wars_2_heart_of_thorns_economy/?sort=old

But just because a new player cant target farm direct gold rewards anymore, doesnt mean that he cant earn a decent amount of gold by selling his loot.

Without a doubt, there is a wealth gap in GW2 between new players and traders like me but also to veteran players, who have clocked 5k+ hours, even though those veterans primarily earned their wealth by playing the game. I think GW2 addresses that wealth gap pretty well by making loot that drops in lower level maps and primarily to lower level characters valuable to veteran players. Ascended crafting was the first step and now with HoT many other low level mats have seen a significant rise in value, as they are demanded by veterans, who have a bigger wallet and are mostly earned in lower level areas. Some examples:

t1 leather – 200% increase in value since hot launch
t1 wood – 60% increase
Potatoes – 500% increase
iron ore – 50% increase

Flax seeds and fibre is another thing. Its nothing a new player really needs, its easily accesible in HoT (if youre lvl 80) and sold for 10-40s each during the first week, mostly paid for from people with deep pockets (nightfury) or big guilds who can pool funds (guild upgrades, scribing).

I think there are great mechanics at work to transfer gold ressources from those that have them to those that need them.

I think many players, especially new players, have a hard time calculating how much the materials and items that drop for them per hour of gameplay, are actually worth. And its understandable. Most of the time, they struggle with bag space and deposit mats on a regular basis without considering, if they need the mats at the moment or if it might be better to sell them because they are in demand and will fetch a good price.

If you, or any other player is interested in getting more information about the value of the materials you get, there are some websites, that can do that for you, using the new API keys. Right now, I am using gw2bltc.com or gw2shinies.com

Actually, i just tried both websites again and they arent up to date yet with some new items, for example. The API info and endpoints are also updated quite regularly i think these days, so it will take some time until everything runs smoothly. Nonetheless, those websites offer great info on trading history and current trades, account wealth, account unlocks, account bank, wardrobe, etc. So they are well worth checking out and setting up a (free) account. You need to create an API key and permissions, you do that by clicking on your account, top right of this forum page, and then go to applications.

Shoot me a pm, if you have a question about using those websites.

Anyways, in order to easily calculate, how much value in mats you make per hour, use those websites in order to determine, how much your material storage and bag inventory of the character you are playing is worth, before you start playing. While you play, deposit everything you can (which you do anyways) and at the end of the session, check again.

[Suggestions] Gemstore Items

i find it hilarious that this thread has over 20.5k views, and still no results from Anet…. ’tis an easy fix to be sure.

Quite possible but it’s a manpower issue with likely everyone who could work on this are neck deep in HoT work.

I’m going to guess that the town clothes items were ported to skins based on previous sales to determine popularity. And the Gem Shop overseers don’t see it as a major new income stream, unlike a new outfit so they aren’t pushing it to be added to the schedule.

Most town clothes were ported to endless potions.

And i agree, this is getting old. I dont care, if people wear bunny ears in game because i dont see them anyways on low details but these countless threads and calling out Gaile make me feel happy, every day bunny ears dont come back to the gem store yet again.

If anybody thinks at this point that they are actively working on changing bunny ears to a armor skin and reintroducing them to the gem store, has lost the plot.

As already mentioned, it has nothing to do with the chinese version of the game.

I think the main reason, why lower ranked gear got cheaper is because the base materials got cheaper. If that happens, it is often a result of higher population in lower level zones, for example shortly after the game went on sale or after a trial weekend.
Both wasnt the case recently, i think.

The new LS Season passed through Brisban Wildlands, so alot of players picked up some mats and loot there, which could be 1 reason for lower prices.

But the main reason responsible is the departure of the bazaar 3 weeks ago. The Traders that let you exchange common mats for supply boxes acted as a huge sink, which let prices spike. With the bazaar gone, that demand vanished as well, so prices are returning values from before the bazaar.

GW2 2016... A message to devs and players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Wanze, these are the game boards so I’m using this medium constructively… Your arguments are null and void. Thanks. I’m not going to negotiate ncsoft’s role anymore or use of these forums unnecessarily. There are bigger messages to discuss.

You yet have to lay out how their statement, which you based your OP on, is related to development of the game and not marketing costs.

Cost effective marketing has nothing to do with the flaws you see in this game.

The conference call didn’t say that they were looking to do something like reinvest into their games to increase long term revenue and earnings now did they? Right?

Instead they are building a new mobile studio, has 60 employees out of the planned 100 and leveraging (gambling with) a new ip instead of propping up their current bread winners…

Gw2 is an amazing game in ways and just added 2 million new users since play for free and has a 3.1 million monthly concurrency rate now… So maybe time to reinvest and boost momentum and staying power and growing power for gw2 into 2016…

It’s simple to separate “cost efficiency” and “reinvest”… It’s pretty self explanatory… The rest is just PR money talk mumbo jumbo for people who look at their accounting statements wondering what happened… It’s different for the boots on the ground…

Then i dont know why you claim cost efficiency is the root of all evil, if its the lack of reinvestment.

If you want reinvestment, say so. Just because it wasnt mentioned in a transcript from a conference call made by an mmo fansite, doesnt mean they dont do it.

You can claim its PR mumbo jumbo but then it makes no sense to use it to back up your OP.

Find a statement from NCSoft that says they arent reinvesting into GW2 and we can continue the discussion.

I’ve brought up both topics because they are interrelated to make my case. I’m not sure you read things fully… Those are two differ topics and both of which I’ve addressed separately…

This topic has progressed so you are twisting thoughts just to argue…

Did you not read the op? Or were you too busy telling me to buy gems if I don’t like the funding from the owners?

You jumped in mid conversation with a silly comment on an important topic so obviously you are not serious with this discussion in the first place.

You run in circular arguments just to argue and that doesn’t move the topic forward…

Seriously, good luck…

So its fine, if you throw in 2 different topics into the conversation and its not fine if i question their correlation?

If you took the time to read the op… It’s pretty clear…

I read your OP several times even after the edit and its all over the place.

What it boils down to is that you want NCSoft to invest money in the game because you dont like certain aspects of the game and you claim their marketing strategy is why we dont have classes balanced like you want them to be, only 1 wvw map, only 1 raid and so on.

You just want them to sponsor more ressources and tell Anet to make a better game and give no specific suggestions on how this would generate more ROI for them, except better gem store sales through better items and GW2 being a better product.

You completely misinterpreted what was said in the conference call because it has absolutely nothing to do with game development.

I guess you are referring to items that are listed at 1 copper over vendor value.

While you are right that people would get more gold from the vendor for those items because they have to pay 15% fees and taxes, for the economy its actually better if they keep doing it.

Because if they sell it on the tp, they actually sink gold out of the economy, which counters inflation. IF they sell it to the vendor, they generate gold, causing inflation.

Nobody wants inflation.

The Quartz Chrystal Drought

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Hi guys,

I already mentioned this in another thread of mine about the economic impact of the last balance patch but wanted to make a seperate topic.

Since the start of the year, the bulk of 8 million quartz on the tp has been used up at a rapid pace and as of now, we are left with a mere 350k on the tp.

Some threads already creeped up on the forums since then and some claimed it was market manipulation. I have been trading with quartz and related items, like celestial recipes, sheets of ambrite, grow lamps, and charged ambrite ever since its release and have done some additional research in order to find out what caused the mass consumption of quartz.

What got me baffled is that in the 10 months between its introduction during the bazaar of the 4 winds 7/2013 and the festival of the 4 winds in 5/2014 the supply of quartz was way less, usually hovering between 100 and 400k. During the festival in June 6 million quartz got dumped on the tp and in July, Dry Top opened. It contained 3 quartz nodes, which were harvestable once per day per account, which isnt much but due to the majority of the player base constantly farming DT, another 2 million quartz ended up on the tp.

The problem was that there werent enough sinks for quartz as most players already crafted their celestial gear. In August 2014, supply and demand were pretty much level until the end of the year. Reasons for that are certainly the end of the festival, which diminished supply greatly compared to the limited faucets in DT and the the introduction of mawdrey, which added an addtional sink.
Until the end of the year, there were some additional shifts in supply and demand, Halloween in October spilled out charged quartz from t&t bags, Wintersday Gifts in December/January as well and Additional content in DT during November had people flocking back there from the silverwastes.
Sheets of Ambrite (which need 5 quartz) for Nomads gear were also introduced in August but the stat combo wasnt very popular and quite expensive to craft, as ambrite was quite pricy at that time. In November, sinister stats and SW were introduced, which were a bit more popular. Its also noteworthy, that at that time, a huge amount of ambrite got farmed which brought it down to vendor value. That might seem insignificant but is in my opinion one of the main reasons, why we used up so much quartz in 2015. Its not that nomads gear got any more popular but crafting sheets of ambrite did.

As already mentioned i have been trading in sheets of ambrite alot since its introduction and for most of the time this year, it has been traded for far less than crafting value, which can only have one reason:
We are crafting more of it than we consume. Its a lvl 400 refining recipe used by all armor and weaponcrafting professions and people mass produced it to level from 400-425. There is not much sheets of ambrite on the tp, less than 4k, which would only mean 20k quartz but I suspect a huge amount of sheets of ambrite lying around in peoples material storages.

While leveling crafting professions, many people struggle with inventory space and use the deposit material option a few times. When people start out from lvl 400, refining mats is the first option to advance your level. Since SW, people got plenty of ambrite, it filled up our inventory, was at vendor value and in general a hassle to have. At that time, most people also had at least a stack of quartz left in their storage, enough for 50 sheets of ambrite. It was a great way for many to level their crafting and free inventory slots by burning through 5 stacks of ambrite.
If only 20k people did that, it would already consume 5million quartz.
Hovever, that was already possible in November, which also saw sinister gear being introduced. That was more popular and charged sheets of ambrite even needed 25 quartz but the 8 million supply stayed on the tp until the middle of January when suddenly supply went down hard and constantly.
So what happened there?
First of all, WIntersday ended, which gave a steady supply of charged quartz drops but that alone couldnt have been the cause alone.
At the end of January, HoT was announced, which brought alot of old players back and also started a series of 75% rebate sales for the game, which brought in tons of new accounts. I read some numbers recently I think they sold more account keys in the last 6 months than in the 2 years before combined.
Quartz is such a unique material because every end product that it is used for (nomad/sinister/celestial gear, mawdrey) is account bound on acquire, which means you cant buy it with gold. Therefore all the new accounts that opened this year had to level their crafts in order to obtain them.

The Quartz Chrystal Drought

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Celestial gear is still the biggest sink for quartz, as it is quite a popular stat combo and uses 5 times more quartz than nomad and sinister. If a new account wanted to craft a celestial set with 6 armor pieces and 3 weapons (i disregard exotic trinkets, as i assume people would rather get a celestial ascended trinket by other means rather than crafting 6 exotic trinkets), they would need to get their hands on over 4 stacks of quartz. They didnt have any leftovers of charged or regular quartz from past events, all they could do is farm 4 nodes per day which usually would only yield half the amount of quartz they need for their daily charge, buy wintersday gifts or t&t bags or buy them on the tp. Until the end of march, quartz was still cheap on the tp at around 1s, so most people didnt mind to pay the price as celestial was still one of the cheapest exotic stats to craft.

The problem was that in those 2 1/2 months, we burned through 6 million quartz and suddenly the price went up to 2s. At that time, regular players and investors started selling their stock to make a profit, supplies replenished a bit and stayed level, just like the price, until the end of may. Thats when more news were published about the upcoming changes to the condi meta and the balance patch, including the ability to chance stats on ascended gear.
It sparked a huge demand for sinister gear and propably celestial as well, since people wanted to switch some of their unwanted armor and weapon boxes with undesired stats to something useful.

So in the last 5 weeks, supply went down 82.5%, from 2 million to 350k and we passed the 3 silver mark during the weekend.

Since the update, charged ambrite went up to around crafting value, which indicates that people didnt hoard as much as regular sheets, which are still available for less than 50% of their crafting value.

So what does it mean for the regular player?

The hardest hit will be players that want to craft celestial gear, as the price of quartz will trend up the fastest.

I dont see demand for celestial gear diminishing anytime soon and you have to craft it yourself with quartz, which you cant get enough of by yourself because it has a limited faucet. And by now, many regular players and investors already sold their unwanted quartz. Personally, i have 70 stacks left to sell, which might sound much to some people but atm, those 17.5k wouldnt even cover half a days consumption and is as much kitten of the current supply on the tp.

Sinister gear crafters are a little better off, as they dont need that much quartz for their gear (80% less) and have the possibility to buy additional supplies of charged ambrite on the tp, probably for a little less than crafting value as they still have a decent supply outside of the tp, personally I have twice the amount compared to the supply on the tp stored away. Wether it will be available for a little less or more than crafting value will depend on when people will start to sell additional supplies on the tp and how fast the quartz price rises.

Nomad gear crafters probably dont have to worry at all, as there is so much sheets of ambrite outside the tp that it will take a long time until the price becomes an issue in the crafting process, its still one of the cheapest stats to craft.

Many games have rich people, who can buy the world, but there also a lot of people who earned items just as fast, if not faster by playing the game. Im not really playing this game to earn money, earning money is just what i have to do to get the things i want in the game. why would it destroy the jewelry market? as far as I know the jar has one stat set only, and one that I personally don’t use. The other stats should still be sellable as usual.

With the jar available for 15s, it only costs 60s to forge a random exotic trinket, so all exotic trinkets that drop from the forge will be available for ~75s, which is well under crafting value.

On the value of "luxury" rewards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Except that casuals have just as much need for those Ascended mats, and now have difficulty affording them. I just don’t think you have a grasp of what actual players of this game want or need from the game, You seem to view the average player as some sort of prole, just tolling away at their dirt farms so that they can scrape together enough materials that they can trade to rich players so that rich players can have nice things. That is not a healthy game community by any stretch. The healthy community is one in which everyone has nice things. Enough with this “trickle down economy” nonsense.

And as already mentioned, I as a gold rich player, didnt get any free hand outs from Anet. I never bought gold with gems, either, so all my wealth was earned in game.

But only by abusing a grossly unbalanced gold-earning engine that ANet provided to you. It’d be like if they added a “God” class to the game that was effectively a level 160 character, able to one-shot the Vale Guardian, and a player was humble-bragging that he’d totally earned everything he had because all he did was play that God-class and solo-farmed the raid for a few days. Yes, you “earned” what you have, but only because ANet gave you tools that allowed you to exploit your fellow players.

The gold i earn doesnt come from Anet but other players.

You cant blame ANet for that.

Just watch me. Ultimately, everything that occurs in the game is ANet’s responsibility, because they designed the tools that allow that to take place.

Anet didnt give me an OP tool to print gold and even if you might see it as that, they didnt give it just to me, they gave it to everyone that paid for the game.
Your OP class would definately be an exploit because it can be used to farm rewards at a very fast rate, that are created out of thin air. The TP cant do that.
Anything i earn there is given to me with mutual consent and by free choice of other players. I cant force anyone to sell to or buy from me.

No matter how i make my profits on the trading post, be it flipping, investing or playing the odds, my bigger profit margins basically boil down to the fact that I value the items i sell higher than other people and wait for them to sell. It might take a minute, hour, day or a couple of months more but thats all i do.

It all comes down to freedom of choice and i dont know why you want to destroy that freedom for everybody in the game just because you feel unfairly treated because i have more gold in my wallet than you.

I accepted long ago that we have fundamentally different views on the economy, I prefer the capitalistic way it is now and you seem to prefer a socialistic way, where everyone earns the same.

You say a healthy economy is where everyone has nice things.

Thats a noble thought but how do you address the fact that some people put in more effort (game time) than others?

I good portion of my wealth derives from the fact that i nearly clocked 10k hours. I also dont play alts, just one character and I dont care too much about style, so i dont really spend that much gold over time on gear, skins minis, dyes or other non-essential shenanigans than other players.

Even if I only would have earned 5g per hour, i would sit on 50k gold by now and would have considerably more wealth than someone who just started out with HoT.

It doesnt really matter, where my gold comes from, if the simple fact that i have more than you makes you feel uncomfortable or unfairly treated.

I your personal perception of others that are better off than you is so important to you, I am not sure if an mmo is the right game for you and I would say that a solo rpg is what you are looking for.

Dear Devs, how about infinite-transmutation?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

A temporary pass for infinite transmutations seems quite reasonable, even though i would go with 2 weeks instead 3 months.
Another solution might be to be able to charge skins, so when you use 5 or 10 transmutation charges on a single skin, it will be free to use from then on.

The 'retired-gemstore-items'-issue debate.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

I know this might have been discussed already, yet after searching the forums, I still didn’t feel like I found any good reasoning towards the arguments I have on the matter..

Now, I know not all enjoy the same aspects of the game – one of the great things about GW2 is in my opinion the fact that there are features for everybody – and, I’m aware of the whole marketing-deal with regards to retiring gemstore items.

My issue, however, is that one of the features I personally enjoy when gaming, is the collectors-aspect. Collecting gear-sets, outfits, miniatures and the like.. I know for a fact I’m far from the only one playing MMORPGs who like this aspect.
- But… seriously, the whole point of being able to farm and gather for a collection, falls to the floor with this game as half of f.×. the miniatures are unavailable, because they have been removed from the gemstore permanently.

Yeah fair enough, some are only seasonal, but those you have an option of getting eventually, but displaying things that people won’t ever have a chance of adding to their collections, kills the fun.

I know, as said, that there are valid points made towards the marketing aspect of the gemstore, yet I don’t see why the removed items such as these miniatures that I personally am quite frustrated about never being able to collect, can’t then be farmed some other way.

ArenaNet could make it something possible to craft, they could implement it as rewards for things related to the items type/visuals etc. or they could be drop chances from the mystic forge-toilet.. (I’m truly vouching more for the first two options here… we gotta discuss that kitten toilet too tho…) >:( !!!

It sucks ArenaNet!! And your arguments are invalid and irrational.. All you truly do by completely removing them from the game is kicking dirt in the face of the large amount of players who likes collecting shinies for their characters/accounts. :/ !

Could we have some explanation or valid, non-marketing-related arguments as to why it is so darn important for you to completely remove vanity items?

Pweaze. >:’ ( !

*Edit: (Also not a fan of you replacing my angry curse-words with ‘kitten’… D :< !! wth!?!)

If collecting things is what you are concerned about, come back, when you have collected everything else and the retired items are the only ones, you are missing. Until then, just collect the other stuff.

Do I hear some sarcasm and disappointment about Anets update strategy?

Of course. I never wanted an expansion. I was fine with easy peasy 2 week living story updates, 1 or 2 days to play it and back to wvw. But pve veterans were crying for moar content and an expansion. Now they got it.

Not only did Anet stop giving us some content every couple of weeks, they even make us pay for it. Cant blame them, though, the community asked for it.

Or just use a reliable middle man. Live and learn.

There is no such thing. Don’t lie to these people. They have very little hope as it is.

Since ANet’s policy is to ban scammers (even if they don’t return the goods) I’m pretty sure you could use a reputable BLTC trader like Wanze (just as an example, don’t know if he does middle man trading) without much risk.

Obviously the risk is always there for using anything other than the TP, but it can be mitigated to be almost risk-free.

Could be, of course, that the middle men charge almost the same premium as the BLTC, but that’s another discussion.

Before people start contacting me in game to be a middle man:

I am happy to help out, for a fee of 20%.

Seriously, use the TP, its fair for everybody and serves a purpose (gold sink).
I wont dedicate any time for people that want to circumnavigate a system that was implemented for their protection, promote map spam and be involved in a practice that usually ends up in forum infractions and in game bans.

I get enough people that i dont know asking me in game for advice on which my time is better spent.

Ascended Armour & Linen vs Gossamer

in Crafting

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

There is something seriously wrong with the way Ascended Armour has been designed if the demand for Bolts of Linen exceed that of Bolts of Gossamer so much that Linen is worth more than twice that of Gossamer.

Something needs to be done, either reduce the amount of low level cloth required for refining, or increase the drop rate of the lower level cloth so that craftspeople can gather it themselves at a reliable rate.

What on earth possessed the design team in charge of crafting to charge such an exorbitant amount for this stuff?

And they were warned about this by players well before asc armor was actually released.

This is working as intended to give new players a way to gather wealth in low and mid lvl maps.

The Devs told us already back in August that the market will be in disequilibrium.

Minimum Upbidding

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

There really ought to be be a minimum amount by which you have to up the ante for a buy order on the TP. I haven’t been to many real-life auctions, but I’ve never seen a bidding war tediously go back and forth by one penny at a time.

If you really want an item badly enough to outdo the top bidder, you should have to commit a little more to it than 1 copper, literally the smallest unit of currency in the game.

It could be, like…a silver or .02% of the top bid, whichever is greater. That way on big items that are hundreds of gold, it would force you to bid in gold, without being completely insubstantial on smaller items. Since .02% of something that sells for like 12 silver is basically 2 copper anyway.

Your suggestion wouldnt change the status quo. People who want to up your bid, would still outbid you and it wouldnt change your place in queue.
All it would do is make prices in general more volatile, which is undesired in a balanced economy.

Having at least 1s increments would be futile to low value items, which have a price spread of less than 1 silver.

Strange market - need advice

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Wanze.8410

I dont doubt that there are quite a few investors in quartz, I am one of them, but to believe a single player bought the majority of the 7 million quartz form the tp over the last 3 1/2 months, is simply ridiculous.

There have been many sinks added without a doubt. But to deny that even 30k gold is some insurmountable amount to invest for a few people is naive. A couple whales working together could get that easy. A single one could. Heck, you wanze could have moved this your self if you cashed out a bunch of other investments.

The thing that tells me it is an intentional movement of the market price as opposed to a natural upswing is the pace of the sales I got. Especially when it was moving from 40c(my lowest listings) to 1s it would go in spurts of a few copper at a time. Each one of those was a mass buy out not natural sales. If they were simple, normal usage i would have sold all of the ones at 55c one day and then a few days later the 56c listing would sell. I wouldn’t have been looking at my recently sold tab and seen listings sold for 55c, 56c, 57c, 58c all over a short amount of time. Not with the tens of thousands that were sitting at each price point.

To be clear I never said a single player, but a single player could do it. I know of a handful of people who have over 100k gold and I am not that well connected. Whether this would be a wise investment, for a single player, of that much gold is debatable but make no mistake about it a single player could easily pull it off.

Even regular consumers usually buy in bulk, at least 1 stack, they dont buy 25 each day just because they only need 25 each day. Some propably buy the 2500 they need for a full set at once. Now i dont know how much listings you had at every value but they would have to be substancial, about 50k or so, in order for you to determine, if those 50k were bought out by a whale or just a bunch of consumers that bought multiples of 250 each.

Your listings at 40c disappeared back in november, your listings between 55c-60c disappeared in january. Any data on the last 3 months, where the bulk of the supply went?

I know i checked my sales on celestial gossamer insignias over the last 4 months (took me around 3 hours to count this afternoon) and i sold insignias worth over 2.5 million quartz each month, 86% of those sales were single recipes, which indicates that they were bought by consumers, not investors.

For me, thats a huge indicator that the demand for quartz is in fact substantially higher than the mere 7 million we lost over the last 4 months. We propably consumed hundreds of millions of quartz since the start of the year.

My investment in quartz/charged sheets of ambrite/celestial recipes is propably around 3-4k gold with an actual lowest listing value around 5 times that high now.

Might sound much to some people but in the end, its just enough to cover the global demand for a couple of hours.

Anyways, if you think general demand in the last couple of months came mostly from investors, you are foolish to buy quartz now. If you think demand came from consumers, you better stock up now.

Wanze.8410

I am actually specced for running away. I main a warrior and started roaming alot about 2 months ago after a year in the hammer train of a wvw guild.
I had a hard time with condi specs, so i adjusted my build.
Full ascended sentinel armor and weapons for extra vitality and pvt trinkets (no asc sentinel available). With lemongrass poultry soup and dogged march, snares are a non issue and damage condis dont stay active very long as well with warhorn traited. Sword/greatsword gives me great mobility to get away.
I mostly tag the enemy keep to block their waypoint, tag towers to divert the enemy zerg and kill dollies/flip camps. Usually i am tanky enough to kill dollies with 3 enemies on me and then get away. Usually i have at least 3-5 people chasing me and they cant catch me. Thats 3-5 enemies that wont kill my team mates, scout or flip my own camps or kill my dollies.
I have been doing this for 3 weeks now and the blue keep in eb is my favourite waypoint to block because it has 4 gaps that can only be traversed with a 1200 range leap (sword 2 for me) making for a great escape when chased by too many people.
At times, i have been doing that for hours and got many whispers and party invites from enemies to haul some abuse at me for not fighting. I dont care.
I also like to jump into water, so my chasers lose their stacks when they are too cheap to get a sigil for their underwater weapon.

if someone were to tell me, “I have one question”, I would not expect 4 pages of text. (I know not all of it was part of the question, but it definitely would scare me away if I were asked it)

Well, i guess it didnt scare John away but you make a valid point. I got similar feedback in PM´s as well so i will edit my OP in order to make this topic more accessible to new players and give it a better structure. For completions sake, i will copy/paste my unedited OP here:
Playing the Trading Post is one of my favourite activities in GW2 and even though I dont have an (virtual) economic background I think I have a good grasp on how the economy in GW2 works. I quite like how efficient it is and how many game mechanics and market forces are implemented to balance it.
I have a question regarding the ratio of tradeable items listed on the trading post for sale and their supply stored in personal storage (collectable tabs, personal/guild banks, bags).
Its quite obvious that most of the supply of nearly every item has a greater supply outside of the TP. Luxury goods like precursors for example might only have a supply of less than 20 on the tp but i have no doubt that there are hundreds, if not thousands of each precursor existing in peoples storage that are not bound and intended for sale.
The same goes for any material or mini that is stored in the collectible tab, the supply outside of the tp has to be far greater than the supply listed for sale.
My question is:
In order to have a balanced economy, are you monitoring that ratio for all/specific items and can it hurt the economy in any way, if this ratio spikes/drops?
Personally, i would guess that once and item (especially crafting mats) has a higher supply on the tp than outside of it (sitting at vendor value) it becomes harder to balance it and use it in future crafting recipes while items that have a short supply on the tp and a high supply out of it, are more prone to sudden price spikes, which also isnt intended.
General agenda:
I created this topic not to get an answer from a Dev specifically but to try to improve conversation between Anet and the player base. For those who dont know me or John:
I am a TP trader and a frequent poster in this sub forum. John Smith is the Head Economist of Guild Wars 2.
In general, we have seen several attempts to improve communication between the player base and Anet, most notably the CDI (Collaborative Development Initiative)
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Collaborative-Development-Master-Sticky/first#post3383068
And the Dolyak Express:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Dolyak-Express-Dev-Q-A-Archives/first#post3496656
Until now, none of the topics discussed in those initiatives concerned the game economy (except the CDI about vertical/horizontal progression).
As a frequent user of this subforum, i see many concerns and questions popping up frequently, which i think is quite normal because new players enter the game on a frequent basis.
Even though people might lable me as a fanboi of John Smith because i generally agree with his opinion and like his posts, i think overall, he has done a great job taking time out of his day replying to posts that have already been answered in the past.
For everybody who is interested in the economy or has a problem with it, I advice you to read Johns post history:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/members/John-Smith-4610/showposts
Take your time and you will find many interesting posts that will give you an official answer to your question/concern.
In general, some questions or concerns come up on a frequent basis, mostly by new players. As far as i know, John´s stance is that he doesnt comment on issues that have been answered rightly by other users. But usually that user doenst know that an answer given by another user represents Anets (John´s) stance, so he wont accept it.
So i created this topic to make communication a bit easier.
If you have a specific question about the economy/TP/rewards, please post it here.
Make it an honest question, dont QQ, and you might get a good and satisfying answer. Keep in mind that people like me, who have a good grasp on the economy, might answer instead of John and give you the right answer. So please dont disregard our replies. Even if you dont believe us, our replies give John Smith the opportunity to just link our answers and verify them without taking too much time out of his day to respond.
Cheers to all, and hail to Evon.

Capes.

Cape introduction has been delayed since forever because there are so many clipping issues, especially with charrs. There will be even more clipping issues with capes and mounts, so right now, Anet is contemplating wether to introduce capes or mounts.
