Problems with the Trading Post.

Ok…I -tried- to give the system some leeway and put myself in it, I tried, hard. I really did people. But…this is insane.

some of the things are way too expensive, just look at the cost of say, Iron shield parts, I caught one Iron shield part worth -more- than the darksteel equivalent. What kind of sense does that make?!

Heres my problem, the way it stands a lot of the items that peopel would even go tot he trading post for, are so insanely expensive that players with the kind of courage the trading post desperately needs, will just go and get the items themselves. sure Ancient bone isn’t exactly common, but for the time it would take to get 66 silver you could just go and find the item yourself. Then to many sellers(and I’m not alone in this, I asked people outside my circle), they abandon or never enter the system because of the lack of any kind of control. People like me and many others feel powerless to the powers that set market value and don’t get any decision about their own items sale.

Yes, some people don’t mind making as much money as possible, but some like me and -many- others, feel like cheats and jerks when we sell items for more than it’s even remotely worth by our standards. Whether the prices are and wrong is a non-issue, but the fact the seller has no decision, and the buyer’s dont have the courage(or intensive) to wait for much of a lower price, it just ends up pushing everyone out of the trading post.

I don’t claim to be an export but this is out of hand, and I don’t know what can be done to fix it. And don’t tell me that my first example, the price of silver dubloons, and the price of charged lodestones(both of which are abusing the fact legendaries require it) is fair. the fact is, many people like me are getting pushed out of the system due to any lack of control, and none of the buyuers have the courage to fix anything(or again, the insensitive).

so….any ideas? Because I’m up to finding a solution that makes it much friendlier to trade, both as buyer and seller.

The problem with economists is that they foster economies only another economist finds stimulating or interesting.

I’m John Q. Player, and I don’t give a rat’s tail about ROI metrics, velocities or variable exchange rates.

I want a cool sword to hit the giant dragon with while my buddies shoot fancy spell effects out their bums, and a rousing battle tune to go with it.

Only kitten way to function in this game anymore is o turn into a wallstreet maverick spending more time paying Spreadsheet Wars and aggregating data than anything else.

Economists should never be involved in making anything fun for anyone but economists. The commonality of this tendency for MMOs to all be turning into Investment Simulator Online makes me want to know exactly how hitting dragons with swords and fireballs came to this.

Bugger it all. People can turn anything into drudge work, and apparently will if allowed one minute alone with anything.

If thats what you want to do, just do it. Avoid the tp and achieve your goals in game.

Do accounts have "luck", and is it right?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

So reading through this, I know that RNG is applied to the Account – but does that mean that the Bell Curve/outlier/etc are all tied to that one account – so if it’s an outlier account – all characters would have the same favourable luck?

Or is it the Character that become the outlier?

Sorry for newbi question – as it seems I have one character that is luckier than the others, but that might just be me being superstitious

Outlier accounts are created through rng and can become lucky accounts through rng.

One account can get 5 precursors from the forge from the first 100 weapons he throws in and another one can not receive a single pre from 10000 weapons thrown in. However, the chance to get a precursor from the next forge attempt was, is and will always be the same for both accounts and all characters on it.

On the price of legendaries in TP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Ectos and the t6 mats for gifts of might and magic lost nearly 50% in value since June, which ecuals around 600-700g for each legendary.
If you needed charged lodestones for your legendary, you pay 100g less now compared to june and most precursors also lost 100-200g in value since then.
Just that is around 1000g off your shopping list for mats.

Why did those constantly lost value since june?
AB Farm, new LS chapter and I am not sure when they announced that new legendaries are on hold for the time being. That might have been around that time and might have caused some players, who were hoarding mats in order to craft the new rifle for example, opted to use their mats to craft the old leggie rifle and sell it for a profit. If you check the supply graphs of the leggie weapons, most of them only had less than 10 listings, now most have over 40. So more supply than demand, it seems.

I can’t really give advice but I can recomend a couple of threads to read, both by a forum poster named Wanze. He started a forum thread, but it appears he has switched over to a reddit thread.
Current: Reddit thread
Old thread he is no longer posting on: Forum thread

He has lots of interesting things to say about the economy and trading. They’re worth a read.

I suggest following the forum user Ohoni.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/members/Ohoni-6057
He creates some really great reward concepts on a regular basis and if you support his suggestions, Anet might give you free stuff whenever you need it and everybody will get the same loot, whatever content he plays.

Its been a week since the patch is out and that week involved the easter weekend, so people probably didnt spend as much time as usual in the office.
I think its good that Anet actually waits a bit to collect enough feedback before deciding to react on it.

Items to stock up on for HoT ??

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

But most of the things mentioned on those threads are related to account bound currencies, not crafting materials and thats what the OP asked for.

In one thread t1-5 mats were mentioned because people might want to level crafting disciplines on their new revenant but i doubt that this will be an issue because even veteran players will have to revisit lots of the lower level maps in order to finish collections and mastery tracks and we will see additional crafting material rewards from map completion.

Without knowing which mats will be needed for new legendaries, collections etc., its pretty useless to ponder, which crafting mats will rise in price.

While players might need a good amount of t5 and t6 mats after HoT, they probably wont need it right away because they have to finish some collections first or will be gated in some way, so there wont be a demand spike, i think.
I also know of plenty of players, who are hoarding champ bags until HoT goes live to take advantage of adjusted loot tables. So during the first days of HoT, I expect an unusually high amount of champ bags being opened which might flood the markets and we might be looking at tanking prices for mats that are on plenty of champ bag loot tables, at least for a couple of days or weeks.

I stocked up on fine t6 mats and also bought some more lodestones over time, but those are meant for personal consumption, rather than as an investment.

Those mats nearly never saw quick price spikes of more than 50%, so i think they arent a good investment.

Personally I focussed my investments on mats that have been introduced after launch because I think those mats are more likely to get new sinks in HoT. Some of them have limited faucets, compared to the old t6 mats, so they are more vulnerable to price spikes as well.

Other mats I invested in either have pretty limited uses atm and therefore are more likely to get new sinks, like essences of time for example, or are timegated, like mystic coins, charged ambrite or t7 wood/cloth/metal.

IF (big IF) they finally introduce jeweler and chef 500, those markets will see plenty of movement but in those departments I also only stocked up for personal use, not really for investment. The big fractal update might influence prices on items related to it but I dont play much fractals, so i am not familiar with droprates in there.
And i dont play around in markets I dont have a clue about, so I didnt buy much of it either.

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Wanze.8410

I think it originates from early days, where soldiers insignias and inscriptions havent been salvageable. The only ways to obtain pvt gear was through badges of honor, dungeon tokens and karma gear from temples.

As most of those items didnt have a soldier prefix but a individual name (armageddon Helm for example), most people used PVT as name.

In case you don’t know, alot of skill visuals got nerf to the ground, fireball of elem comes to mind, or their auras. The nerf itself wouldn’t cause such outrage if it were individual’s option, but instead enforced down on all of us. You know, Anet, if i got kittenty graphic and refuse to tune it down on my own, then that would be my OWN problem, NOT YOURS. My mom hasn’t died yet and left you to decide for me what is best. I like dungeons. They’re fun, they really encourage teamwork, and I’m a collector so I enjoy buying all the gear with dungeon tokens. I’ve noticed that, lately, there are no experienced 80s doing dungeons anymore, and so I always get stuck with low level characters with <500 achievement points who don’t know what they’re doing, and the margin of error is so huge that it becomes a never-ending wipe-fest. I’d like to see more attention given to dungeons, please!

I think what you just said just underlines why Anets decision was right and basically contradicts itself anyways.

You might think of it as teamwork-based content and it even might be on the smallest scale but it doesnt really promote teamwork between veterans and new players.
If they kept dungeon rewards as they were, new players would have a hard time finding a group of veterans that would teach them how to do dungeons.

I dont think that is a state of mind that Anet wants to promote in its player base, old and new alike.

Why should you get handsomely rewarded, when you refuse to mentor newer players?
WvW or PvE Commanders during Map Meta events or the harder boss battles have to coordinate a whole map, which often is full of new players or players new to the content. If they wipe, they also dont get any loot or reward or considerably less but they try anyways to teach everybody on the map and organize events.

You refuse to teach 1 or 2 new players in a game mode that isnt even time sensitive, like the new meta events and complain that you arent handsomely rewarded for it?

I guess the general mindset of dungeon runners simply refusing to play with new players and mentoring them played a big part in Anets decision to nerf rewards and stop developing for it.

And rightly so.

Imminent economy crash? Good thing? P2skin?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

If you take a closer at our economy, the only thing that effected the pricing of items in TP are items associated with upgrading guild halls. So the removal of liquid gold from dungeons did not effect the prices of high priced skins.
What you are viewing as a problem of removing gold from dungeons is merely people allocating their funds from shiny personal purchasing to contribution in purchasing items for the guild hall nothing more nothing less.

You have a valid point on guild hall items price, but regarding high ticket items and even medium ones is that the amount of gold a person can make on a game session is a fraction of it was thefore it does impact said items. Actually impact all items which is good in many ways but bad for veterans who will loose a big chunck of their personal gains stuck in the tp.

We got our 4th or fifth upgrade done this morning in our guild hall and the only gold we had to pay was the 100g for the claiming expedition, i wouldnt call that a huge gold sink.

The mats used to upgrade to GH dont cost any gold to create (unless they are untradeable vendor items), they get created by investing time. The only gold sink for this is the 15% fees and taxes, if you decide to buy it from there rather than farming it yourself.

On the value of "luxury" rewards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Its so laughable that you think there is much skill involved in listing your loot for a higher price.

Its basic math, just multiply the current value of your loot on the tp by 2 or 3, list it at that price and wait until it sells. Thats all there is to it.
Boom, you make as much as a trader.

The only issue I have really is…because of all this increasing prices on the TP.. and everyone trying to make the most amount of gold, eventually EVERYTHING is going to be way over priced and out of the hands of the poor and middle class players.

For example: Anton’s Boot Blade is valued (worth) 2s 64c by Anet (wiki) and is currently selling on the TP for more than 34 gold. That is way overpriced and for some players this could be out of reach.

Once you get into precursor and legendary weapons…that are selling at astronomical prices all because people are trying to make money off the TP. Not necessarily to buy something pricey, but because they wish to amass gold in the game.

So basically the “poor” will never acquire anything pricey, because by the time they make 100g, the price will have moved up to be 300g. Which I find rather sad.

The vendor value Anet sets has very little to do with the value the players set for the item.
The increased prices on the tp are due to additional demand, as the player base as a whole is destroying alot of mats atm to craft stuff or upgrade guild halls, etc.
Its actually positive for poor and middle class players, if basic mats rise in price becasue they can easily farm them and therefore get more value for their loot.
In addition to that, most valuable items that have been traded for over 100g before hot and have no function as a requirement to gain other items, have fallen in value since HoT.

Why is it that i dont feel neglected by anet because other players can earn stuff with their playstyle that i cant while trading but you feel worse off just because i have alot of gold?

Seems like a personal problem rather than a problem with the game.

And how does your OP and the article relate to the fact that you dont seem to have a problem with someone having substantially more gold than you but only the way it was accumulated?

How do I affect the game any differently compared to someone who buys his wealth in game with real currency?

I actually seem to have less impact on the economy because i dont really spend my gold, while people who who buy gold with money usually do so to spend that gold for a special purpose.

I dont think this is an adventure game. I think the term that Anet likes to use is a living online world.

No, it’s an adventure game. For it to qualify as a “living online world” it would need to shift more into the realm of the “craftopia” games, where everything is crafted and crafter wares rule the economy (rather than just being burnable resources towards other projects), trade would be based on actually traveling with items between locations rather than a single virtual TP and instant travel, and player housing would need to go well beyond Guild Halls. No, this is definitely an adventure game, and if ANet wants to see it differently, then they have a lot of work to do.

The topic of their game description says the following:

Enter a living, breathing fantasy world.

John Smith mentioned several times that the trading post is an integral part of this world. Here is one quote:

“Here is my stance on this subject:
The TP is part of Tyria and is a part of the game. Spending your time learning to interact with it is a fine way to play the game if that’s what you enjoy. It has ups and downs (including no exp, karma, achievements).
The amount of money to be made on the TP is finite. There is no way it can’t be, the TP only ever sinks money, it never creates it. The TP offers convenience to trade outside of equilibrium pricing, and if a player decides to step in and take the time and effort to consume that trade and push the trade into equilibrium, that is great for the economy. It pushed prices towards equilibrium, provides a service to those who want convenience and sinks money all at the same time.
Trading takes skill, and lots of it, it cannot be argued otherwise and here is why. Because the profit is so limited, the profit has to be split between all the people effectively trading. The lower the skill cap, the more people trading effectively, the less profit individuals make until there’s no longer a real market. If one argues that there is money to be made, then you are arguing that skill is involved.”

Anet states that they designed a living breathing world with a living economy but you simply say that its an adventure game and therefore shouldnt have a living economy and less focus on it.
Anet states that no rewards are created by the trading post but you simply apply a different definition of rewards to make an argument.

You are basically talking about things that dont exist but you claim that they exist and you dont like them, therefore Anet should change or remove them.

Lauren, the QA Lead, made an intriguing statement yesterday about an upcoming bug fix:

It won’t be next release, but there is progress being made. This fix will debut on a release day to much fanfare though.

Maybe im interpreting too much into it but it could be that we might get a bigger release. Soonish.

Might also be only a hint that the next instrument in the gem store will be a trumpet.

Colin mentioned in his 2015 outlook blog that raids, new legendaries and enhanced squad UI will ship mid-november, so i guess they will come next week rather than this one.

Exotic Marauder Armor?

Wanze.8410

So now that Marauder stats have been added,
where/how can I get Exotic Armor with this Stats?

You craft it like berserker or valkyrie gear.
You get the recipes from the master crafters for the insignias/inscriptions, then use discovery in the crafting panel to craft the gear.

New trait system Good or bad?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ability to choose bad traits reduced by 99.8%.

If the traits were bad, just fix the traits. Don’t cripple the system.

That was the whole point of the change, its easier to balance now.

[Suggestion] Allow Identical Items to Stack

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Now I understand that if you mod them they are no longer identical and should therefor each take up a different slot but in their pristine form they are the same.

This is propably the main reason why they dont do it and everything that can change binding, wont be stackable.
Otherwise you will need 2 item codes for every item and I guess that will need alot of work time.

As a high volume trader and investor, storage space of course is an issue for me, so i would love for gear in general to be stackable. If they were stackable, you would find alot more investors being active in those markets because we can now store 250 of one weapon in 1 slot and wont have to commit a full guild bank for it.

I guess the exotics you mentioned are dropping from the champ bags in silverwastes, so all their prices are down atm. The only real tip i can give you is to list them at a higher price than the current one and so store them on the tp. It has the disadvantage that you wont be able to monitor their prices over over time and decide to sell them when the price is right but it also has the advantage of you selling them when there is a huge sudden price spike and you are not online at that time.

Watchwork Pick: Why No Response?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Even though i like the new pick and its sprocket functionality, i decided against buying it. I dont really think its a P2W item but from all the threads on this topic its clear that many people do. Personally I am disgruntled because i already got an infinite pick, which would be useless to me, if I buy the new one.
Another reason why i decided against buying it was Anets lack of response to all the topics and the mediocre description of the item, not giving any info on the sprocket droprate or if it overwrites other rare drops from mining.

Well, lets see with what shenanigans they will come up with tomorrow. Usually i trade for 1000 gems on mondays, today i wont.

Toxic players

Honestly, apart from calling you a kid, i dont see anything toxic, just reminding you of the rules of the map.

You also dont provide any evidence that you didnt break any rules.

As you seem to have missed to read the forum rules, for example that naming and shaming is not allowed, or simply ingnored them anyways, I am more likely to believe that you DID break the rules of the farm map.
