[Discussion] Instant level 80 item

It doesnt really matter much what players think. If this item was available on the gem store, Anet might make a little more bucks but also unpopulate lower level zones, devaluating their product for newer players.

Objection, your honor. Speculation.

Speculation made me rich, so I will stick with it.

Add empyreal dragonite bloodstne to TP/wallet

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

I agree they should go into the wallet. If something should be farmed/earned and not bought at the TP, it shouldn’t just rain down on you like crazy with little/no effort. If it shouldn’t be sell-able, that’s fine. Or hey just reduce the drop rate and reduce the # needed for crafting.

The wallet is for currencies, the collectible tab is for crafting mats. The crafting UI is not connected to the wallet, so its also a technical issue. Why would Anet even consider this? Did you ever consider that Anet doesnt intend that you hoard bank tabs full of this stuff? And there lies a significant problem because They will never introduce a way that would allow hoarders like you to capitalize on it. Even if they introduce more ways to use them, it will first of all be required to have a craft at level 450-500.
And if there is any other use, it will be gated by other means, you can be sure of that.
Reducing the droprate and mats needed to craft, would also favour hoarders because it would enable them to craft more ascended stuff in the future than those people who used up their mats as intended in the past.

If you want to wait for possible future uses and cant be bothered to refine them, fair enough, but dont expect to not having to allocate inventory space for it.

On the value of "luxury" rewards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Its basic math, just multiply the current value of your loot on the tp by 2 or 3, list it at that price and wait until it sells. Thats all there is to it.
Boom, you make as much as a trader.

And if it never sells because you gambled at a price that never gets reached? I do have at least a few orders on the TP that I’ve let ride for a year or more. Not everyone has the disposable income to tie up significant amounts for months on end without returns.

You only see the benefits of a perceived high reward that traders seem to get in your opinion and want it for your playstyle as well.
You completely disregard the risks involved.
Once other reward structures get similar penalties applied to them, we can talk about buffing rewards.

There are certainly ways to greatly reduce risk from the sort of “yolo” tactic you suggest. There are much safer bets to make with plenty strong returns, so long as you take the time to research and have the tools available to do so. If typical gameplay doesn’t involve enough “risk” to justify the sort of rewards the TP offers, I’d be fine with some sort of “self gambling” system, where a player could bet a certain amount of gold that he could complete an encounter without dying, or with only a fixed number of lives, and only if he beats the spread does he take home the prize. I don’t know that I’d want to gamble on the performance of others, there already enough of that just in time wasted when an event wipes.

It’s not like normal play is entirely without risk. Sure, you aren’t gambling money, you aren’t putting gold up front that you stand to lose, but you are always gambling time, and time is money. There are relatively low risk activities, so you can calculate a “baby slopes” income rate, but if you choose to do something with a higher chance of failure, like raiding or TD meta, or even Auric meta, then you’re chancing that the time you invest in the effort will not be rewarded as the event might fail, in which case you would be out those potential returns.

Your argument that its too hard for the average player to list it at a higher value and expect it to sell at a certain time is completely moot because the trader has to take the same risk.

Yes, but WITH BETTER ODDS. Do you watch John Oliver? He did a piece a couple weeks back on that online sports gambling thing, where they advertise that players make millions of dollars a week at it. And some do. But the ones that do are the ones with massive spreadsheets and algorithms that track player performance, weather, etc., allowing them to lose some, but win many more and come out ahead. Sure, a random guy can just “yolo” it and maybe his picks win and he makes money, but his chances of success are way lower.

Anyone can try, very few will succeed on a regular basis. A player that just “yolos” the TP might make more money on a very small percentage of his sales, but he will tie up the majority of his items in TP-purgatory, never moving, because he will not know which items might move at a higher price under the right conditions, and which never will. Best case he eats the listing fee and relists it, worst case it’s just him out the listing fee AND the potential profit of the item forever.

A player that knows what he’s doing isn’t taking much risk at all, really. Oh, he might take a risk on a few transactions, and lose on them, but he’d win on more than he loses and come out ahead. Would you ever really gamble so much of your wealth on a risky move that it would actually wipe you out? Or do you just make high risk plays with a tiny fraction of your net worth, and mostly make plays that you’re fairly certain will pay out?

That does not mean that those who do succeed deserve to make boatloads of coin off it though. They deserve to have some reward advantage, because they have some superior skill, but it should not be as extreme as in the actual game, it should be maybe a 5% advantage, perhaps even 10%, not a 600% advantage.

Honestly, i dont care, if they award 10g liquid gold for a dungeon or a dynamic event.
Because my personal profits that i will be able to make then on the tp will rise proportionally and i will always be ahead of you with personal profits from the tp compared to your personal rewards from Anet.

Right, which is why I don’t think increasing the rewards from other activities, at least not alone, would be a good idea. The solution would be more in reducing the profit potential of high volume TP trading. Progressive tax rates, diminishing returns. The more profit you take in, the more it’s taxed. You would always make more from profiting more, just less and less of it each time, until you’d eventually be making only 1% of your usual profit margins.

You can claim as much as you want that profits on the tp are basically the same than rewards from Anet. They arent.

I acknowledge the same difference that you acknowledge, that is not the difference between our positions. The difference is that I also understand that you acquiring gold, wherever you acquire it from, is still you acquiring gold, and it’s ANet’s responsibility to keep those systems in balance with all others. If they allow players to earn gold by taking it from other players, then it is their responsibility to make sure that this method is in balance with the other methods of a player acquiring gold.

Do you think just because i am a good trader that my listings sell faster than yours?
I have over 400k items still listed on the TP, worth more than 55k gold, that havent sold yet. Many of them have been there for longer than 2 years also, closing in on 3 years.
So how are my odds better than everybody elses?

You are always talking about rewards/profits from the tp and you basically have no idea what you are talking about.
You claim they are too high and you cant even give a proper definition of what profits generated on the tp really are.

How do you measure it?

I guess you must have a pretty good idea about it somewhere hidden in your head, that you just failed to tell us yet, on how to define profits form the tp, if your intend is to nerf it or tax players more, who make more profit.

…..

Your theory has several flaws. First of all, the supply of precursors, while its definately a rare and demanded item, isnt as unelastic as you think.

I disagree and would say that precursors are relatively inelastic… but it was just part of the example… if it would make you feel better then substitute chain swords from the first Halloween event. My point remains the same. I think you are missing the general concept I was going for.

I could point you to some old threads where those issues were discussed and JS also chipped in about rich players not really having an impact on prices of luxury items and daily sales of precursors, if youre interested.

The 2012 Halloween items are expensive not because there are rich players in the game, they are expensive because their supply is limited.

Of course its driven higher because it’s limited. I specifically chose it because it represents a better example of an inelastic item to which I was referring since you decided to object to the precursor example.

The item itself is not significant, its the class of items which are rare and inelastic (or relatively so) in supply, yet desired, that I am using in my example. The specific item is irrelevant to my argument.

Now that we have agreed with one of the premisses of my argument (that there exist desired, inelastic items), you can re-read the two cases I provided.

The two cases demonstrate how the price of inelastic in demand goods can be affected by wealth distribution. So it is not MERELY the scarcity of an item that determines the end price, but how wealth is distributed among potential purchasers can impact the end price as well.

Q.E.D.?

OK, lets get back to your example.

Those 5 flippers with 1800g must first have a personal demand for that item and then they have to be willing to spend more than 10g on that item, which isnt neccessarily true. And once those flippers got theirs, the price will go down to 10g anyways.

Another think to point out is that whoever found that item and only has 10g, can only list it for a max of 200g.

Right… and as there are in reality many more rich people than 5 folks I’d say this becomes a lot more probable.

(Of course there’s also likely more than 1 or 2 some elastic item left, but I think the rich demand will be relatively high based on volume of rich people. This demand will tend to greatly greatly “outweigh” the inelastic supply given you can choose to flip these and play the market with them meaning that each rich person represents potential demand for several (or all in some cases) of these).

To use a re-world analogy, if the current sum of money were evenly distributed amongst all the current players… there is no way a chain sword could list for what it does.

Allowing methods of play which greatly exacerbate in-equal wealth distributions will contribute to make certain goods unavailable to those whom don’t play in that manner. This means that because some people play this way, others will be forced to modify their preferred play style to these same methods if they wish to purchase those goods.

From this one might argue that a more reasonably equitable potential level of profit regardless of play style chosen (skill in said play style of course factoring in) might be preferable for the majority of players.

Well, i think Anet addressed unelastic items and didnt really introduce any new ones in a very lng time and keeps reintroducing limited ones on a regular basis.

Even if there were no rich players in game, items with limited or short supply wont be available to everybody. If all players would get an equal amount of gold per hour, people who play more will be able to pay higher prices than other players.

So it doesnt make a difference if there are some filthy rich players.

That’s a bit black and white thinking of you, you should think more in terms of degrees. There are items which are relatively in-elastic for instance. And there are degrees of disparity which matter, not just simply whether disparity exists or not.

However I sense that it would not be convenient for you to concede to what I am trying to explain to you, and people will tend to believe what they wish to be true. So I will leave it for others reading to judge for themselves and refrain from trying to lead you to water any further.

Agreed, we wont agree.

But if you want, I would welcome a suggestion from you, how wealth parity could be implemented without making the game worse for the majority of the player base.

dyes- a lesson in manipulation

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

For you as a consumer, how does this sudden price spike negatively affect you? You will have all dyes after the patch that you have now.

People that have already a lot of dyes unlockd on their accounst will not be affected that much, that’s true. Put yourself however in the shoes of someone who will start playing after april 15th patch. Everything we heard so far points out to dyes being way, way more costly in the future than they are now. That’s even when including lower demand due to them going account bound.
Unless the dye crafting gets significantly upgraded, the dyes are going to get, for all pracical reasons, both gem-only, and costing a fortune (for uncommon and rare varieties at least). Even including gold to gem conversion, gem costs of dye packs are so high that any idea that removing dyes from drop tables is somehow just balancing the switch from character to account based system is laughable.
Basically, any new player will get seriously screwed by this change.

You might be right that dyes will be more expensive after the patch and new players will have to pay more than now. But the OP is not a new player that enters the game after the patch, so your argument is invalid and off topic.

A new player also profits off the new account bound system in the long run because he only needs to unlock every dye once on his account. While he maybe has to pay more gold to get all dyes unlocked after the patch than before, he might as well spend less gold over all on dyes, compared to someone who played since release and unlocked all dyes on 5 different characters until now,

Gems and Gold (and Time)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Every reward nerf and gold grind they’ve introduced in this expansion was put in place to guide players to buy MORE gold with gems. The chance of them disabling it at this point is probably less then zero.

Although I do agree it’s a problem and is the reason we have such unreasonable grinds for almost anything in the game.

Its funny how people keep claiming this, yet they fail to give any evidence that this is the case. The gem→gold ratio has been incredibly stable since hot launch, hovering around 20g for 100 gems, with 10% variation, depending on the time of day.
If so much more players are forced to buy gold now and gold in general is so hard to come by, I wonder why the ratio isnt going down.

Salvaging rares-exos gives less Ectos now ?

i notice the same. they deny nerfing ecto drop rate, but i get less ecto now that’s fact.

^^^ This exactly^^^

For some reason there’s always 2:1 players posting in favor of RNG working as intended when the topic comes up in forums. Strangely enough it’s usually the same players posting with spreadsheets full of concocted data meant to stifle any posts claiming it is broken or reduced.

Bottom line is that enough of this same group of players respond in rebuttal that Anet never actually has to take the time to address the issue.

They dont have to adress this issue because there probably isnt an issue. Most of the time, it actually IS a streak of bad rng of a very small sample from the OP, or the OP failed to collect his data correctly.

I would assume the ecto salvage rate is something that is getting monitored on a regular basis, especially after patches.

And your claim that Anet is never taking any action, is also false.
In January, JS doublechecked the ecto salvage rate (for dust), after someone claimed its broken. It turned out that the OP didnt collect his data correctly and everything was fine.

Seperate real money gem store

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

i would like to have more gems when i pay with real money, the exchange rate only gives you a loss anyway (when changing it to gold) so it will only make buying gems with RL money more attractive.
also, P2W only exists when you have an advantage over someone else, does a skin give you an unfair advantage?
no, it’s just something you want, an inconvenience, not P2W.

I had this plan in the beginning as well. Getting more gems for your 25 euro. That seems a pretty simple thing but to change all the gem cards in the ‘whole’ world is i think a bit harder.

it’s actually dead simple, all Anet need to add is a script code that adds X more gems when you register with a gem card.
they can eventually release cards that states the bonus gems, that only takes a bit of photoshopping.

And isnt just this ( gold to gems depens on people that buy gems with money) that shows that less and less people buy gems with money and more and more buy it with gold. For me the 8 gold per 100 gold is too mutch to handle. And that is to bad since i would really want to buy those skins. Other thing is that they overprice everyting as well. Like its a standard everything is 800 gems but yea…. So why not do something simple thats doesnt hurt anyone ( right?) Its not that they will sell legandaries for 80 euro or something…

maybe an alternative, the exchange still has normal gems but you can buy gold gems with real money.
so what happens now, everything you want to buy in the gem store is cheaper with gold gems.
so an item that is normally 800 gems is now about 500 gold gems (you could also call it platinum), so now the in-game rich ppl can stay around for free all they want while paying the full price while the actual supporters get more out of it, a win win all the way.

Its still basically just asking for lowering gem prices. Why would Anet do that?

not really, the gem prices will just be lower for ppl who actually spend money on gems, how it currently is doesn’t benefit Anet in the slightest, the new way does.
better yet, they can make high popular items on a higher price while keeping the gold gem price the same, this makes exchanging gold->gem less popular and the RL money->gem allot more popular.
more money->support for Anet->more stuff->profit

You are constantly ignoring the fact that every gem in the game is paid for with real money (bar the initial gems put into the exchange before release).

It is actually beneficial for the game (and Anet), if people buy gems with gold:

If you buy 800 gems with money and spend it in the gem store, thats 10 bucks in Anets pocket.
But if you buy 800 gems with money, then trade it with me for my gold and i spend the gems in the store, its still 10 bucks in ANets pocket, plus they sunk some gold out of the economy, which keeps inflation in check.

However, at lvl 0 you start with refining bronze ingots or green wood planks, then you start crafting bronze weapon components. Those recipes are auto learned so you dont have to discover them. Once you have crafted a couple components, they will be available in the dicovery panel.
So a bronze greatsword blade and hilt plus an inscription (also auto learned) will let you discover a greatsword.

How could we get Superior Sigil of Mischief?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

The other reason they are so expensive is because Essence of Mischief is also used to make Chaos Gun. Which so happens to be a precursor for Quip. That is why they are so expensive. Why Anet decided to use two of the same Sigils on two different items, I’ll never know. It’s not like they don’t have tons of other Sigils as options. Changing the requirement for the Winter’s Presence would have been the better move.

Thats a different Essence of Mischief though than the one used for Winters PResence. The Essence for Chaos Gun only needs 4 sigils instead of 50.
And considering that the Chaos Gun is traded around 200g on the tp and the forging costs of the chaos gun are more than double than that, I doubt that many players are actually forging it to make this a mayor sink for the sigils.

get it?

@smoothpenguin
yeah I get all you’re saying and you are right, however I still find this wrong how this game is so focused on tp and gem store and not on dungeons and dragons and the shortest way to get to some material goals in the game are through those means not by actual ingame work or lucky drops back in the gw1 days (and in some other games I play/played) I felt happy when I dropped a rare shiney and it always meant something even tho I was fairly rich from spamadan trading and that little drop was really a miniscule part of it…and here like 90% of exotics are worth 1g and almost everything in terms of loot feels unrewarding also thanks to anet nerfing farms loots champ bags and so on

The TP is a wonderful tool to determine the value of your loot yourself. If you list your items at the same value as the flipper/speculator, you make as much gold as him in the same time. If you sell all your loot to the highest bidder, you actually refuse to get more gold for your loot and shouldnt come complain about it.

We have control, we just opt not to excercise it because other farms are more lucrative.

And as long as there are more profitable farms, this will not change because we obviously can afford such high prices with our current income.

So if the mayority of the players are willing to pay those prices, are they really too high or is it, like in most of these cases, just a vocal minority complaining?

In conversations with my friends, they tell me we live in a “perverted” or “warped” version of capitalism and that total deregulation would be better.

I just think its a conscious choice anet made in order to avoid everything being made available for gold/cash, so there are account bound rewards.

Your most personal moment/relation to GW2?

I am also a professional chef and a while back i was cooking for 2 semesters on the Tallship SV Concordia, which was home to 48 students, who made their high school diploma on board while sailing around the world, +16 pro crew. I had a great time on board the ship and it was something like a home to me. A couple of years ago, the ship sank in a storm 300 miles off the coast of South America. While i was glad that everybody survived, the Concordia is now on the bottom of the atlantic and i will never see her again.

But one of the sailing ships that are included in the Frostgorge Sound Loading Screen is a photoshopped image of Concordia (easily seen on the red dots/red maple leafs on the square sails), so everytime i feel like killing claw of jormag or run a champ train, i get to see her.

The big picture of my attachment shows a part of the loading screen and the small picture beside it is the google image of Concordia.

Guild bank issue

Some programmer mentioned some time ago that this isnt possible atm because more than one account can interact with the guild bank at the same time and it could cause trouble with the software, if more than one player interacts with the same stack at the same time. They are afraid, items will be lost in the process (or doublicated), which could cause all kinds trouble for customer support and the game economy.

Farming grind: orichalcum and ancients

Wanze.8410

You think this grind is bad? Wait awhile. GW2 is being released in Asia soon. Grindfest capital of the world.

It’ll be interesting to see what effect that has, although I think I also read that ANet was considering keeping the Asian trading post separate from the existing one, precisely for that reason. I wish I remembered where I read that. :/

If they are on the same TP with NA and EU, it will likely make everything dirt cheap at first, but ANet’s response to that has been overwhelmingly ridiculous numbers of materials needed in newer recipes.

The TP in China will be seperated from the existing one.
There are many reasons for it.

Seasonal items from updates that havent been released in China yet and also, some items had to be changed in appearance and name due to ethnical reasons.

You also wont be able to transfer between servers or guest between China and NA/EU, send mail, whisper etc…

Teir 1 NA and the way it is effected by "GvG"

in WvW

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

The majority of committed WvW players don’t give a crap about PPT anymore. The PPT game, as it stands, is completely boring. People want fights.

WvW is just a training ground for the next GvG for most guilds.

Naw, the overwhelming majority of WvW players couldn’t care less about GvG. I doubt most players outside the top3 tiers even know it exists.

I’m not hating on the format, but it’s getting a little out of hand with all the threads claiming it’s the “real WvW”tm.. you’re a vocal minority, quit acting like you speak for everyone. This is the exact same nonsense that paxa tried to do with the “small man tier” a few months ago, and that flamed out spectacularly.

If we are only a vocal minority, how come our impact on the ppt is supposed to be so massive?

Would it be a good idea to be able to instantly have your crafting at 500 if already unlocked, while leaving the option to level it manually for xp if you want to?

I agree the gold for levels aspect of it is important.

I dont see why you would need this? Everything you craft is unbound or account bound anyways.

TL/DR?

I think you would have more success in initiating a discussion about the suggestions (and getting attention to devs), if you broke up all suggestions into related groups and posted them into separate threads with a topic title that clearly summarizes the area the suggestions are intended for and post them in the appropriate sub forums.
A programmer for pvp for example (and most propably everybody else) wont go through that whole list, just to filter out pvp related suggestions.

I gonna "manipulate" a market!

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Market Manipulation is an often and hotly discussed topic here.

I think its so because many people have alot of different definitions of what market manipulation really is.

Manipulation in general is seen as something negative. For me, MM in GW2 is a sceme in which someone gains gold profit in an unintended or unallowed way, for example via a crafting, salvage, forge or duplicate exploit or using a third party program like a bot.

Many people also often use MM in connection with using alot of gold to buy out certain limited items in order to raise the price and sell with a profit.

While my stance (and I think Arenanet agrees with this) is that this is perfectly fine and working as intended, i can understand that some people might look at this as unethical.

Well, today until the end of the year I will do just that and will try to update and document all my transactions on a daily basis right here. In upcoming posts i will describe some more details and my personal opinion on certain aspects like supply, demand, price, background to the items involved and my personal trade history.

The Item, whose price i I will be manipulating is:

Wanted: Zoom to 500 Crafting

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Wanze.8410

Wanze.8410

Some people hate crafting and I am one of them.
I would gladly pay to avoid having to craft anything other than the end game weapons and armors (that seem to be more about making me do enough of certain content to get materials).

Anyway, can you think about a “buy your way out of crafting” item? I (and many I would imagine) could tolerate forging a weapon if we didn’t have to do all the silly crafting to get to the point of forging it.

While you are at it, is there any reason we can’t buy ascended weapons considering they have been out for long enough that anyone who really wanted to craft one could have?

I get having a time delay between new armor/weapons and introduction of multiple ways to acquire them, but ascended weapons need more ways to get them that don’t require crafting!

As Vol already stated, crafting is incredibly easy and fast. It costs a bit more if you use fast guides than economic guides. I expect you to know that already and while making this request be willing to pay even more in gems than it would cost to change those gems into gold to lvl a specific craft to 500.

That is paying a premium for convenience and basically is what the gem store is all about.

What you didnt consider is that all the mats you would need to lvl your craft to 500, would be used up, lowering their demand and devaluing them for the general player base.

This would especially hurt new players, who profit off the demand of low and mid tier mats coming from end game players who pay a premium to buy those mats off the tp to lvl fast.

So your suggestion would put new players at a general disadvantage to generate gold scaled to players with lvl 80 characters, who have easier ways to farm gold in general through dungeons/champ trains/exotic drops.

While it might make Anet a little more money in the short run, i think they more value new players getting a good footing in the economy.

The reason why ascended weapons arent available on the tp is because most of the player base is of the opinion that BiS Gear should be obtained through in game achievements and not through your wallet. For weapons you still have the option to buy legendaries.

I also already explained in another topic why making ascended gear tradeable is a bad idea for the general player base. In a short version:

The sudden demand on t2-5 common mats, not only to craft for those who want to buy ascended gear but also for the stock that is constantly listed on the tp, will raise its value again over a short period (just like when ascended weapon and armor crafting got introduced). Those kinds of changes usually spark alot of activity on the tp, which is the biggest gold sink in the game. So from an economical kind of view, they have to carefully balance those gold sinks and cant introduce them at any given time (1 reason why they delayed jeweler and cook 500 imo).

Due to this price spark based on raised demand, i think that the crafting value for ascended weapons would be so high that you wouldnt deem it worth it and buy a legendary instead for a bit more gold.

It’s fear of the unknown that is driving up the dye, sigil and rune markets right now.

I dare you to show me a regular dye that gained value in the last 7 days.

Not in the last seven days. The announcement was over two weeks ago and elevated the price of basic dyes by 5-10×.

Switch to month view.

Now masterwork and rare dyes weren’t affected as much if at all in terms of a price hike.

Well, you said “right now” and not 10 days ago.
Just wanted to point out that the dye market is declining since the initial spike.
