As a rule of thumb, if the rare weapon is worth more than the price of 1 ecto on the tp, sell it, otherwise salvage it.

One of worst (not sure if intended) changes that were made is that there is no way to recover runes from unsalvable gear (karma, wvw gear).
Many players had expensive rune sets on those exotic gear and were able to transmute them to their ascended sets, once they crafted it. With the phasing out of transmutation crystals, that not possible anymore.
I know that upgrade extractors are available in the gem store but i think they are intended for infusions, where the actual gold price of 25-30g per extractor is reasonable and warrants a purchase with gold or gems.
I also see the reason why karma/wvw gear is not salvagable and dont expect to see that changed.
But i think, if we could have an option in the wardrobe, to use a transmutation charge the same way as a transmutation crystal used to work, this would solve the problem.

Usually I would also disagree with a request like this. Mostly due to the reason that if Anet would give you guys something like a gravestone in game, be it in the open world or in your guild hall, it would set a presedent.
After reading the OP and the posts from other guildies and family members, personally, I would also hope that Anet somehow gives you a special place in game dedicated to the deceized because this game (and gw1) meant so much to him and his guild members and this is where they spend time together on a daily basis.
But unfortunately tragedies like this happen on a daily basis for gw2 players and then Anet would have to decide on an individual basis every time someone else wants a special place for a special someone that passed away somewhere in game.
Evaluating someone elses grief and level of tragedy online and determining, if something is worth a special mention in game and the associated work hours, isnt really something I would want to get into, if I was running a software company.
But I dont see anything wrong with gem store purchaseable upgrades to Guild Halls that are somehow customizable to commemorate a certain individual, be it gravestones or tombs that you can engrave yourself, shrines or statues that you can build using any skin/outfit etc.
Personally, I found myself a nice easter egg in game that reminds me of something dear I lost.
I already played the game for a couple of months, had map completion and loaded into frostgorge sound hundreds of times when I realized that one of the ships pictured in loading screen was photoshopped from a google image of a Tall Ship that I worked on about a decade ago. While sailing around the world, it was boarding a canadian private school. I had some of the best time of my life on there, it was my home for 2 semesters and its crew my family.
Unfortunately, the ship capsized and sank during a storm several hundred nm off the southamerican atlantic coast a couple of years back. Even though there were no casualties and only minor injuries, the ship, one of my favourite homes away from home (and I lived in over 40 countries/on different boats), is lost forever and i wont see it again.
When I realized that its a picture of that ship, I tried to find the spot pictured on the loading in game on the map, hoping to walk its planks once more. But unfortunately it didnt exist.
I wasnt sure, if the artist who designed the leading screen, was just looking for a cool picture of a tall ship online, which he could photoshop into the graphic or if he chose that picture on purpose because he was a former alumni of that school and wanted to put in a commemoration of it in game (it sank before gw2 release).
So after failing to find the ship sailing, I searched under water, if he maybe incorporated it as a wreck on the bottom of the sea. I probably searched for a total of 3 hours that night and even though i didnt find it in the end and got no rewards for my efforts, that was some of the best exploring i had done in this game.
Attached a screenie of the loading screen with the google image next to it.

The only way ANet could make playing the game more rewarding than playing the TP would be to make end-game content with highly desired items that are so difficult to obtain (but reliably obtainable) that only a select few people can obtain them and then everyone else purchases them from those players.
As a hypothetical idea:
- Dungeon that requires 100 AR to even enter or you die and are ejected
- One team wipe = Ejected
- Bosses that are randomized and/or hyper-difficult requiring utmost timing precision and coordination
- Dungeon time limits
- Every mob respawns, meaning you have to keep moving or get murdered from lingeringHonestly, this sounds like more of a request for the content team than the TP team.
this is a great idea.. but those rewards Need to be FIX not RNG and they should be accountbound.. the Point in Special rewards is that they are Special and People can’t buy em with Gold.
They don’t Need to Change the TP they just Need to Change the game so there are Special Skins that are only avaiable to pve/ pvpers so rewards that Show you have done high end Content and not that you have spent 6k Gold to get it:) (Liadri / SAB Tribunal weapons ) are an example:)
I think the idea of items obtainable only from certain content and can not be sold is a great idea. But in PVP makes sense, because only counts the real ability of the player, but in PVE and WvW also equip is important and whit no money you can’t do it; so in the end who has the money can afford to do even that content while others players can’t. Said this, money in GW2 came from playing TP and we are at the start point.
I agree that rewards in general can be optimized and worked on. Anet is in the process of it. But why discuss this in a topic that basically asks to nerf the tp?
If people think rewards are not good enough for pve/pvp/wvw, they should make a suggestion in the specific forums and not complain that some people make lots of gold on the tp. Profits from playing the tp scale nicely with the skill you have and punish you if you make mistakes. If thats a reward structure you would like to see implemented in other parts of the game, fair enough. Go make a suggestion about it in the appropriate forums but dont come here and complain about the tp.

Yesterday I opened around 5k gifts and like many others, wasnt too keen on all the clicking. I just opened 10 more stacks and want to give a breakdown on how much more clicks are needed to break down all loot:
2.5k gifts – 5k clicks
20 stacks of essence of luck, refined into 600 exotic/legendary essences – 1200 clicks
1150 rune/sigil boxes – 2300 clicks
190 selectable rune/sigil boxes 760 clicks
1100 boxes of winter clothing – 2200 clicks
380 unsafe gifts – 760 clicks
850 bottle shaped gifts – 1700 clicks
310 finisher books – 620 clicks
1650 beautiful clothing – 1650 clicks with SOM
That makes an additional amount of over 11k clicks.
Was this really neccessary?
For those who are interested in the rare droprates:
from 7.5k gifts i got:
6 tonic recipes
5 mini ho ho trons
6 unbreakable choir bells
4 Endless Toymakers Tonics
3 red musical bell cases
1 festival wrapped beverage case (choice of endless toy tonic)
1 exotic aqua breather (givers stats selectable, upon others)
1×10 t6 claws

Not cool at all.
Its account bound after crafting it.
And if you craft it with LW, you save about 180g compared to crafting it with tailor as elonian leather is 12g cheaper than bolts of damask and you need 15 of it.
LEveling leatherworker from 0-500 costs about 85g.

lets assume you are right and only a few people would do it (i think u sound a bit too confident in this regard but thats just me) it makes a difference to those people, without seriously affecting the economy, and without taking away from the people who dont want to do it, it literally helps everyone without hurting anyone, and its not a big or complex update that would eat up anet’s time if thats what your implying
the real question is, why dont YOU want it done (and keep in mind (“its not a big update” is not a valid answer to this question because not every update has to be big to be meaningful….helping someone is still helping)
I just the think the impact of this change would be so minimal that it shouldnt be a priority. There is nothing wrong with your idea, but in my opinion, it would affect so few people that its not worth the dev time. There have been many other QoL suggestions towards the functionality of the TP that presumingly take the same amount of dev time and would affect way more players in a positive way than yours.

This is easy. Move the listing fee to the buyer in the case of the buy orders. That way if someone offers a buy it had best be a good one else they will have to pay a price to re-list the same that sellers do.
This is easily the worst suggestion i read in this thread.
Moving the listing fee to the bidder would mean that the trading post could be utilized as free storage, just list all your stuff for 10000g each, so it doesnt get bought, delist if you want it back.

Weaponsmith will enable you to craft ascended weapons at lvl 500.
Jeweling is not raised to 500 yet so the best you can craft are exotic trinkets.
But that also means that leveling jeweling is still quite cheap, once jeweling gets raised to 500, there will be alot of demand for jeweling mats and it will get more expensive.

@Logos.1306
Logos you simply don’t understand that most of flippers don’t even lose money, the most money lost is by people who actually try to buy items that they need! And the money sink doesn’t even matter if small and big people pay taxes with same rate.
2nd suggestion that i got was such:
Make a boolean in an item object,
- if item was sold 1x on tp already
- market taxe fee to list is 50% higher
Simple as that.
The biggest issues i see for your suggestions are:
First of all, i dont think that flippers or investors are bad for the economy and John Smith, the game economist already mentioned several times that they dont really impact prices on the tp as significantly as most people think. Prices are driven by supply and demand of the general player base.
Its fairly easy to claim that rich players can just buy up some markets and sell at a higher price but it usually doesnt work like that, believe me, i tried many times.
You wont be able to get rid of all your stock at inflated prices unless there is a general demand change from the player base. And in that case, the price would have gone up, regardless of the investor buying up a large quantity.
For you as a consumer for that in demand item, it doesnt really matter, if 1 person bought up 100k supply between 1-2s and relisted it at 3s or if 4000 individual players bought a stack each for personal consumption.
The new price will be 2s. The difference is that the price spike will prbably conclude faster, if the investor buys them all up at once rather than 4000 players buying a stack each. A sudden price spike can be seen in a negative way, thats true but if the investor bought it, it has the positive effect, that the supply will go back onto the tp at 3s.
That creates a huge supply wall at 3s, which comes in handy, once the price actually reaches that barrier. If it wasnt there, the price will inflate much quicker to 4 or 5 silver.
So i think traders arent responsible for price inflation in most cases, its general demand.
There are some exceptions of course, especially for currently unobtainable items but for over a year now, since the start of LS season 2, Anet made a great effort to make most items available year round or at least reintroduce them from time to time to add new supply.
The biggest problem i see with your suggestions of account bound items after tp purchase or raising its sales tax after being traded once:
It will have huge implementation costs. They would need to make a 2nd item ID for every item to note if its tradeable or not. That will also mean, that those items wont stack anymore, so people will complain about lack of storage space.
For many item groups, this chance will have little effect anyways. Anything that can be used in crafting, forging, be salvaged or can be altered in other ways (for example a lootbag that gets opened) can just be bought on the tp, altered and sold again.
I make a great deal of profit just by opening lootbags, salvaging, crafting and forging and i guess, i would still be able to make significantly more profit than in other areas of the game, even without flipping and speculating. So your proposed change isnt really a great solution to your perceived problem, it would create unconvenience to a majority of players that have to deal with lack of storage space now and therefore in my eyes wouldnt warrant the implementation costs.

2) Food, for example i NEED cactus soup in order to deliver what GvG commander demands from me, and its 1Gold per 30 min food, which is rather inflated for the materials that were predicted to be used and highly flipped.
Correct me if im wrong but i think all ingredients for cactus soup can be obtained in game without having to use the trading post.
So how exactly do those that flip the mats for it in any way stop you from harvesting those mats?
You could also use bowls of black pepper cactus salad, which gives the same buffs, costs only 32s and 154 karma to craft and lasts for 60 min instead of 30.

2) Thats basically right. Of course, i look at this from a speculators point of view because thats what i mostly do on the tp. I place alot of items at prices that I am sure wont be paid for a while (even though, in general, i expect them to sell within 3 months). I usually try to forecast higher demand for items within the next months or so. Sometimes im wrong, Jeweller 500 is a good example, i bought up mats in anticipation of this over a year ago and its still not around and lots of my listings for jeweller mats are more than 3 months old. But when I listed those mats, i didnt intend to use the TP as storage but to sell at that price, the difference might seem semantic but it isnt. People just use the TP listings as storage, if they intend to cancel their listing before the price reaches their listing price.
If I, as a speculator, cant list my items at 2, 3, or 4 times their current value because i have to fear that it might not sell within 3 months, it doesnt make me sell it at current value but rather keep it in my personal storage. If I have it stored in my bank, its not accessible as general supply, if demand spikes. It requires me to be online at that time and gives me the possibility to observe the market and list at a higher price than i intentionally would have. So if im not online at all, my supply is useless to rebalance the market, if i am online, I am way more flexible in the selling price compared to having listed it.
Lets take Beryl Orbs as an example:
http://www.gw2tp.com/item/24520-beryl-orb?full=1
BOs have been hovering around 2s vendor value for the longest time. In fact, the only time sell listings went over 3s was during last January, during speculation of jeweller 500 being released (lets disregard the first 2 months the game went life, Orbs actually had some decent demand there).
BOs have a supply of 28k on the TP but only around 50% of those listings are between 2-3 silver (GW2TP now shows the value and amount of all sell listings posted), most of them clustered at 2.33s, the lowest possible listing. I myself have 2000 listed around 4s and several hundred more at 5 and 6 silver.
With your proposal, basically half of the supply on the TP would be sent back to their sellers, who can either relist, store or vendor their Orbs. Personally I would store them in my guild bank. Most people would either do the same or sell them to vendor because selling them at 2.33s isnt guaranteed either within 3 months, with more than 12k listings ahead of you. If people sell to vendor, they decrease overall supply (which is bad once demand sets in) and increase gold generation, which is bad for inflation.
Now Jeweller 500 finally gets around and demand is there. Instead of 25k listings between 2.3 and 10s, you only have around 12.5k listings up until 2.5s.
Sure most players will propably have a full stack of Beryl Orbs in their collection tab ofr their own use, and they wont even know that there is a real BO shortage on the TP right now because they dont check. They just start checking, once their personal reserve is gone. During the initial spike, its mostly speculators, that add supply during the first couple of hours. But my supply wall of 2k BOs isnt there anymore at 4s, its in my bank and I most certainly wont start selling them at 4s, once the supply went dry. I start listing 100 each at 10s and see how it goes. If my supply wall was still at 4s, the chance of people undercutting me and adding to that wall would be more likely, preventing the price spke towards 10s.

You got it and that is exactly my point. Speculators are bad for the economy because they serve no purpose.
This is incorrect. Once you learn why this is incorrect we can continue the discussion, until then however you are starting with a false premise and the topic can not be discussed further.
So tell me which great use we all get from speculators. I’m really curious.
I try to explain.
First we have to determine what a speculator is. Many people have a different definition of them but for my explaination they are people that buy items that are not in demand at the moment (supply is higher than demand), hold on to them (either in their personal storage or as a high listing on the tp) in order to sell them at a higher price in the future, when the item gets into demand. By doing so, they offer several benefits to other players and the economy.
1. An item whose supply is higher than demand will fall in price until it reaches vendor value because nobody will buy it. If speculators put in buy orders higher than vendor value, they give sellers more gold for their goods.
2. If speculators wouldnt buy up those items, they will be sold to vendors. This destroys the item and generates gold, which lowers overall supply of the item and inflates gold. If they buy it, they keep the supply in game and sink gold through fees and taxes, which tackles inflation.
3. Now the item gets into demand out of a sudden, most propably due to a new patch.
Due to speculators, there is a higher supply on the tp which means the price will not spike as fast as when they wouldnt have listed their items after buying them when they werent in demand. Those speculators that held on to their items in personal storage, will start listing them now, competing with each other, which leads to a faster equilibrium.

I gave specific examples of the pieced together development by what we see being implemented. There is no speculating… Fact that we have a mini raid and no legendary armor to even view is not a speculation. Nor is 1 wvw map while the rest of wvw is in production. Nor profession neglect that has been pointed out many times in and out of these forums… Those are facts… And that’s where “cost efficiency” come into play…
You are asking us to conclude with you that “cost efficiency” is the issue behind your observations. You’ve not looked at other possible issues that may have produced the effects. Thus, your analysis is flawed. Flawed analysis means suspect conclusions.
MMO developers failing to provide everything that MMO consumers might want at the pace those consumers prefer is the state of the genre. It certainly is not something unique to GW2. Nor is it new with regard to GW2. There have been complaints about GW2 content provision, lack of new profession mechanics, lack of attention to WvW, etc. since very shortly after the game launched. I’m sure that costs are a factor in that dynamic, but this is not something new.
Anet’s financial resources from ncsoft are too low and then spread too thin. That’s the main problem. This game deserves a very hefty injection of cash from the masters. Until then, it’s going to be continuous patchwork quilting on every project… That’s a problem.
I believe GW2 has the potential to be the number 1 flagship game for ncsoft. It needs a big cash boost…
