28. Due to an awesome randomness, anyone can be rank 1 solo leaderboards!
Sorry, I had to.

You forgot to include decency though…
Jon Peters dude, if you’re reading this, I dare you to man up and tell us why you hate necros so much!
Who goes to fractal without any guardian……..
I do. We casually ran 77 two days ago with a warrior, a mesmer, two eles and a necro.
Went smooth, no wipes, grawl shaman especially; it’s my favourite fractal, because I can basically faceroll it with my necro.
Yet, but that’s just me, and you are you.
I’m all in for buffs but you guys demonizing the necro as it was some kind of useless abomination is really depressing.
And to be fair, it’s all in the design of dungeons. I’m eagerly waiting for a condition heavy dungeon or fractal where necros will shine even more due to their utilities.
Edit:
Ohh and before you bash me that my comparison is skewed because I play with bads… I played with [SOLO] players that day and they have probably the best PvE squad on EU-side. Hell, they have the almighty Wethospu (probably the best PvE warrior on the planet Earth) and Haviz.

Please welcome to the PvP side of game where players are gonna insult you a lot and you are gonna insult them a lot as well because that is what you will become no matter how hard you try. I realized this right after first time playing against old Car Crash team.
Lol, if that’s not the best example POsSIble, then I don’t know what is.
Honestly the overall quality of story telling has been the exact same. Doesn’t mean its great or terrible story telling. I would say its average, which is actually not to bad for an MMO.
Edited for clarity. I meant story and writing quality.
I don’t know who in their right mind could compare the Season 1 story quality to anything in GW. It was that horrible.
With less than 500 dedicated PvP players playing the game.
And I don’t mean the PvEers playing 3 hot-joins a day before hitting AltF4.
Too late to save this game.
I don’t know, maybe they were meant to be long term goals and the purpose of them isn’t just to buy everything off the trading post. That would be my guess.
If so, the long term goals in this game suck plain and simple (imo <4mods>)
The OP is a person that doesn’t have a deep knowledge about the state of the necromancers, in my view.
The presented arguments showcase a lack of understanding and on average, the exact opposite happens in situations OP described.
I do not agree.
After thinking about this I feel like many of you think that every dev should have complete understanding of every aspect of this game. And my gut reaction is to say that it is unreasonable to expect that from us, after all Guild Wars 2 is a huge game, and even now I am still discovering new things in it. And whether or not it is reasonable to expect that, it is not that I don’t have complete understanding due to a lack of trying. I mean sure I only spend about 20 hours a week on my own time playing Guild Wars 2, this does not include the time that ArenaNet sets aside for all of their employees to play the game, and sometimes it can be hard to get through jumping puzzles, fractals, WvW, activities, sPvP, dungeons, tPvP, living story, Hot-Joins, crafting, guild missions, ect with only a finite amount of time each week to play. I could probably cut more time out of playing other games, enjoying my hobbies, working to improve my programming ability, trying to maintain friendships and spending time with family to play more Guild Wars, but right now that isn’t something I am willing to do. So instead I’m just going to understand that some players are going to see problems that I don’t. And ask them for as much information I can so that the problem can be identified and fixed. And I appreciate that our players understand this as well and are willing to bring these problems up in a polite and respectful manner.
Sooo, is it working as intended or not?
Some good gw2 pvp to compare with: http://youtu.be/yzBn32Fqm9w
Talks about PvP.
Gives a link to WvW aka PvAAI (Player vs. Almost Artificial Intelligence).
Makes sense.
I would pay them too.
Better writing than in the content! Well done!
Have been playing since betas, used to play top100 soloQ, 6000 PvP games…
What happens? 500 AP (indicating a new player), ‘first time PvP’ players on my teams. They die to Svanir, they triple cap points, they don’t read the chat, they don’t look at the map. Absolutely horrid experience. SoloQ was okay at times, in the current system it would be more than fine.
But no… we have to get this…
Justin, I’m begging you – do something about it. I don’t care about ratings, esports and rewards. I just want to have fun after coming back from uni and the office…
(edited by leman.7682)
I agree. Same old same old.
It’s evident they dislike necros. It’s evident that they don’t know what they’re talking about. It’s evident that they have no idea how to make necros exciting and finally it’s evident that nothing will change for necros.
someone remind what the reasoning was for having only this Domination/Conquest-esque game mode?
They said they tested various modes down the development process and that Conquest was the one most fitting their combat system and pace of the game.
While there is some valid reasoning behind that – I for instance can’t imagine a 5v5 deathmatch teamfight with all the AI and AoE they pumped into their game. Floating weapons, minions, clones & phantasms, pets & spirits, summoned thieves and rune/sigil summons combined with insane amount of AoE circles and effects have all become a major dealbreaker when it comes to a competitive PvP. They not only destroy a skill-based gameplay creating press-and-forget playstyle, but also put RNG in charge.
Add in disparities in class strength, unbelievable bugs and glitches as well as very low battlefield transparency and you get a pretty much dead game, at least when competitive PvP is concerned.
The AI and AoE is acceptable (not to be mistaken with ‘okay’) in larger areas, but they definitely are not suitable for small Conquest maps and tiny capture nods. It all leads to a clutter that pushes one to simply ask himself whether these things were even played and tested internally.
How could a such a big studio filled with extremely talented and experienced industry veterans and pioneers produce this particular PvP? These mistakes are in my view way too far along to be just simple misjudgements.
The whole system is broken.
Conquest is not competitive. It is repetitive. Most importantly it lacks the most basic incentive to play – Fun, which directly contradicts Anet’s design philosophy.
No Custom Arenas, additional map or fixes will change that. The game won’t amazingly become interesting just because you can rent (!) a server and pick a map.
A major overhaul is not only needed, but required. At least for me and every single one of my friends (literally dozens and dozens of friends from years of competitive GW1 of which no one plays anymore).
Anet, read it and talk about it internally. Don’t ignore us. We may know nothing about game development and your future plans, but we sure know a lot about fun and PvP. At the moment we all agree (visit Wartower, Teamquitter or Guildwars.pl) that it’s not PvP we want.
(edited by leman.7682)
There is no argument that could explain this ‘oversight’.
Skills like Whirling Defense, Stalker’s Strike, Bonfire and others lose a lot of viability without that trait and I see no reason for not making the increased range/radius baseline.
+1
Well, to put it into one sentence -
He encapsulates everything what’s wrong with the Guild Wars 2 Personal Story.
I’m less concerned about it being an expansion and more concerned about what an expansion might bring to the table.
Let’s say that the level cap goes up. That may or may not be a problem for me, depending on how it’s handled. But I have 23 80s, all in max level gear.
If I have to gear them all up again, that’s not going to be fun.
Even if gearing them up again is the case, I can’t see a reason why anyone like you would have to gear 23 characters immediately. I mean, come on, you have to realize yourself how ridiculous this argument is. It’s not like you’ll have to play all of them at once or something.
You are an alt-savy person with a lot of time to put into this game, make 23 characters for some reason and then expect to be done for life? I mean a person who struggles to exp and gear one character may be afraid of future progress if it lands with an expansion, not a person with an army of finished toons.
Also, additional progression would be a blast for me because I only play two characters, max them out and that’s how the story goes.
Hahaha @ that dude with troll win ratio playing turrets. He wins life, that’s for sure.
Anyways, what I gather from this topic…
- Garbage design of the leaderboards – checked
- Garbage design of turrets – checked
- Garbage players abusing the above – checked
Who gives a kitten about these kitten leaderboards? Who cares about some randomb bob, who won’t stand a chance vs even a mediocre player as soon as Anet get their act right and nerfs these builds to where they belong?
Chill out, guys! This is not even a cometitive game yet.
Josh Davis may claim otherwise and provide all kinds of wishful thinking disguised as facts, but it really isn’t and it won’t be before these problems are solved. That’s their problem if they want to make this game any good. But you, guys, getting angry because of some poor design that wasn’t thoroughly thought through and is obviously a fail is just a waste of your time. If Anet are intelligent people, they know they failed and they will work on fixing it.
One thing seems rather promising – turrets won’t probably work as efficiently in Stronghold. That’s the hope. And I can assure you that some random guy, like the one mentioned in the OP, won’t be able to succeed in Stronghold because of a negative map awareness caused by turret-induced tunnel vision.
Hot-joins got to go, add solo queue.
For me personally, SotG was make or break and it turned to be a break. Nothing of substance, poor moderation, a lot of pointless talk, underutilised player guests. No meaningful discussion on profession balance/philosophy fulfillment.
I may consider coming back when PvP is ready for something more than one sad game a day.
Solo queue would be a first step in right direction.
Cantha or no dollars.
After you release the real Guild Wars 2 ofc.
I just watched the Revenant stream and all I can say is I am deeply concerned about the existing professions.
Revenant is designed using new tech, new animations and taking into consideration many lessons Anet learned after the game launched. It not only seems to be very fun to play, amazing to look at, but also skillfull and useful.
Writing this from a perspective of a necro player fills me with sadness. For instance, Mallyx legend seems like everything necro should have been and it seems to be taking high-end PvP meta into consideration, unlike necros. Existing professions, maybe excluding engie and ele, at least to me, feel extremely boring compared to what Anet has shown with the Revenant.
Could we see future reworks of exisitng professions to make them on par with Revenant or should everyone just reroll the new profession on day one and forget about the past?
Link to the stream for those who missed it: http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2/b/627401366
What everybody thinks? Do people share my concerns?
EDIT: Clarification – this is not a discussion about power creep. Revenant won’t be stronger in numerical terms, Anet wouldn’t let that happen.
What it has high potential to be is being superior to other classes mechanical-, gameplay- and animation-wise and this is what this topic is all about. Why play a dagger necro spamming ‘1’ 90% of the time if you can play revenant that does balanced damage, but in a way that is ten times cooler and more fun.

While I don’ entirely feel like I was laying in a trashbin, it is difficult to disagree with the main point.
Great number of GW1 players were disappointed with what GW2 turned out to be and have a right to feel cheated. Not going into what was the reason of such a poor state of PvP when the game launched, it is quite obvious that it has some grave design mistakes on the ground level that prevent and will prevent this game from being something truly remarkable and special.
Playing GW1 felt like playing chess with the extraordinarily intelligent opponent. Playing GW2 usually feels like playing rugby on a billiard table.
Not having anything better still keeps me playing GW2, but I wouldn’t call that a healthy situation.
Deep inside I hope that there are people at ArenaNet who are courageous enough to admit that Conquest isn’t the pinnacle of PvP design and it may have been a mistake and that the same people are able to come up with something much better (hint, hint, GvG) and are willing to take a bet with it.
(edited by leman.7682)
People have been telling this for almost two years.
Anet doesn’t listen, because yolo. Yes, yolo, cos they don’t even talk to people starting this discussion.
Won’t probably happen until new PvP mode comes, which is in 10 years.
PvP Team and Jonathan – only one thing I can say regarding future map developments from the competitive perspective.
More Kyhlo, less Foefire.

Anet gave us the rationale behind some changes instead of just showing them.
It not only creates a feeling that they don’t know a thing about their game, but also leads to many unnecessary negative reaction.
They really need to put more effort into explaining why some things are being changed the way they are instead of just presenting these changes without any context. Maybe it’s because we don’t know something, maybe we don’t see the full picture?
In Guild Wars 1 they would always give short dev notes to balance changes that usually put things into perspective. I believe that some info on every profession regarding what the aim of the changes was and how the devs think it is going to play out would come a long way in clarifying things.
What I’m saying is I want to hear a dev come and say: we tested it, we found it too strong/weak and decided to change that and we believe that the course of action we took will open this and that role/gameplay in PvE/PvP.
Is this too much to ask after having waited for months on end?
All is vain.

Let’s all have some fun, and talk about the one and only, the best of the best – Trahearne.
Probably the most powerful cabbage to ever set roots in the soil of the Mother Tyria.
Trahearne is a Sylvari superhero, who sets the new storytelling standard well surpassing Kormir in his very young yet already legendary exploits.
A self-made man from nowhere. When he first appeared in Tyria he was but a poor scholar on a Hunt. He was starting small with money borrowed from clueless over-achievers. He soon learned that natural enterpreneurship was among his countless talents. Now he manages a multinational organisation he grew himself.
But… he wouldn’t call himself Trahearne if he didn’t strive to continue pushing the limits of impossible further and further. He tirelessly visits the most dangerous parts of the world on his own to show that his physical shell has virtually no boundaries.
As every self-respecting individual should know, Trahearne doesn’t stop with having the Physique of Apollo and Heracles combined for he also possesses the knowledge worth of both Elminster and Gandalf.
He alone is the one to have saved the world from peril with his superhuman virtues.
He is a true hero, a caped crusader, The Superman of Tyria.
People love him. He is a god walking amongst mere mortals.
You’re getting fresh, free stuff every 2-4 weeks and complaining you are getting a stagnate game… so yeah, your demands are pretty ridiculous.
What is ridiculous is your attitude. First you assume Living Story is working for the majority and is the ‘way of the future’. Then you deny a fellow player the right to have it the other way with one of the stupidest arguments on these forums (the game’s not for you).
Your problem is, you don’t understand the issue here and are too fixated on defending the Living World concept to see that.
Ride the Lightning does not drop the orb. Attempting to stealth or being combo’d into stealth does not drop the orb. The stealth just fails, with IMMUNE text.
Thanks for making yet another map where Eles are OP and Necros suck.
I really appreciate that. Keep up the good work. Oh well, map at least looks nice.
After seeing the personal story in GW2 I started appreciating the story of the D-title, which was one of the most naive and poorly executed stories I’ve seen during my life.
The voice-over was even worse than the story, so to answer OP’s question – no, you’re not too old for gaming. It’s not you.

Do the Devs realise that at the moment it is impossible to play PUG dungeons with some profession?
I’ve been playing the necro since the BWEs. I am a good player, I know how to play, I know what works where, I am well geared for PvE (zerker).
I am top100 in EU tPvP and sPvP. Been there done that.
kitten , I even won a kitten llama mini on Saturday.
But every time I want to PUG some dungeons (because queues are too long) I get kicked from parties before I even manage to write ‘Hi’.
Some guys post a ‘Zerker only’, I join then get kicked. I guess necro is too kitten to join your standard elite 5k AP warrior.
Make your own LFG, you say? Enjoy waiting 15 minutes for someone to join and that’s an optimistic scenario.
I just hope something is in the works to make this and some other professions viable and desirable (!) in PvE, because at the moment all you can play across the board is the holy trinity (war, guard, ele).
Just wanted to vent, hoping that a Dev reads it…
Cheers.

So many ships on the horizon, I wouldn’t even bother with Anet’s gemstore ventures.
Whack-a-mole has stepped onto the earth of condi necros and touched them with its power.
Condi necros were happy for one day, but then became the object of passionate disdain from everyone.
No one remembers how bad necros were before that revelation.
Flavour players will reroll, because that’s the only thing they can win with – the OP stuff of the month.
Real necro players will get the slack for playing their most practiced profession much much better than the flavour majority.
Sad, but true.

This is one of the most hilarious things I read lately. I adore you, mister!
And I agree.
I will be testing the new dps with my friends, but there are some interesting venues worth exploring with trait/rotations for raids. Possibly even something new for PvP, but that’s yet to be determined.
It would be interesting to see what the dev behind these changes thinks of GS’s usability and position in PvP and PvE right now.
(edited by leman.7682)
More devs and a good moderator that actually knows the hot topics and can ask about them.
We need a person that can keep the discussion flowing and get some questions answered.
After 3 SotG’s every time we know just as much as blog post and forums tell us.
Vingador replying in a thread about toxic players. Golden.
Wurm gives you something that the other utilities like WoP or Spectral Armour don’t – a choice.
What kills necros? Direct damage, condis? Not really. CC is the ultimate necro killer.
That choice to disengage and go back to the fight or rotate somewhere else is the key to the efficient necromancer gameplay.
Also, I can’t imagine playing without Wurm on some maps (Kyhlo, Legacy, Temple). It just gives you so much compared to the other ones.
i hope power necro gets 50k dps already
Acknowledging this user’s agenda…
Power necro needs a qualitative buff, because the condi build, as fun as it is in PvP, is boring, bad and situational in PvE, and I need that raw dps for the adrenal rush, Anet mate. I don’t want to continue spamming scepter autos in some symmetrical, Mozartean rythm. I need Beethoven or Nightwish gameplay to blow me away! No more minuets; it’s scherzo time. Or at least make it into the heroic Wagner since necro is supposed to be an attrition class…
I started making Astralaria, so give me a reason not to stop. Maybe start with the auto rework so it’s not useless and doesn’t look like Nadal vs Federer (or badminton for girl characters).
No hope though; the changes will probably look like they were influenced by a bacchian touch.
Btw, focus still sucks after over 4 years. I have a free pro-tip: if no one uses it even with the few changes in the past, that means a complete rework is in order.
(edited by leman.7682)
We’ve actually been aware of this issue previously, but thank you very much for posting it. If you would rather not deal with trolls blasting you in the future for helping devs, please feel free to PM me these things and I will look into them.
On the other hand, calling your players trolls, even if they do behave in such unconstructive manner, may be seen as not only unprofessional but also rude.
I realise that you’re not calling anyone in particular a ‘troll’, but saying what you did, you acknowledge the reader that you disrespect some of those posters.
Sometimes it’s just better to back off saying nothing than engage in a discussion.
Where are you seeing rank as a spectator?
Where the experience bar is.
Thanks for reporting this issue. This is not the intended design!
Not sure if trolling or…
I would do the same but I just can’t see myself wasting fat hours running in a zerg doing nothing meaningful since there are no good rewards for WvW.
I know the ultimate reason to play WvW should be fun, but how is this zerg and running through vast icy wastelands (the borderlands) fun?
You gremlins should shut up and go back to the caves you crawled out from! =D
What the skyhammer did I just read?
Sarcasm…or an undercover dev?!
Anet’s Chief Marketing Officer on his daily visit to the forums. I called it here!
Jokes aside, I enjoyed the game until I got bored. I advice others feeling the same to take a break and come back in few weeks.
It seems that with recent patch Anet decided to remove Z-axis.
How do you like this change? I personally love it. Jumping is overrated. Wondering what happens to Jumping Puzzles now. Walking Puzzles anyone?
In PvP, the change hurts necromancers whose only way to keep up with their enemies is based on mild CC, i.e. chill and cripple, which after the change no longer affect movement skills.
This change wasn’t even justified in an intelligent defensible manner which in itself fits into Anet’s failure of communication track record.
It needs to be either rolled back or explained by someone in a manner that is informative and justifies the change beyond a childish, naive ‘normalization’ argument.
