Rangers, the class getting big buffs , thieves which are used to an extent in all three game formats, and necros which are solid in wvw, have access to numerous solid PvP builds and capable of pulling off competitive dps in pve. Mesmer – the class which is completely phased out of PvP, absolute trash tier in open world an instancd pve (they are literally replaceable by a consumable) and in wvw you drop a veil and call it quits. So no. I’ve played Mesmer, I like Mesmer and wanted it to work, but it doesn’t. The OP is just a bad player who for dumped on by the worst class in the entire game and wants to just call them overpowered rather than try to improve.

The ball for a more diverse/complex game is on a ANet side. One build to rule them all is what makes this game flawed and basic in my book.

Is it really the environment that you mean or rather artificial restrictions though? I mean if the environment inflicts conditions doesnt that create the need for condition removal? if the environment inflicts damage doesnt that create the need for healing / crowd control?

The fact that a full zerk player can be as supportive as a full “insert whatever support gear you have in mind” proves the support role flawed and it drags the game design along with it. Dungeon design and combat design is pretty shallow and basic. This is the easiest MMORPG out there (and a medium to hardcore ARCADE depending on how much you solo).

As long as a full team of zerks can endure conditions and bypass those difficulties then the environment is not demanding a support role like you propose so I stand correct.

Environment demands nothing that is why it leaves room for full zerk teams to exceed.

The environment demands, in GW2 it demands nothing, so the community respond with the most devastating gear cause defense is not necessary/demanded.

It doesn’t prove the support role is flawed at all, it just proves ANet right in the fact they wanted players to be able to support, control and DPS.

I wish these people wanting their zero DPS cleric builds to be good would realise they’re playing the wrong game and the unholy trinity is that way.

Yes it does. First MMORPG ever, Ultima Online; already had this concept. One character could do anything if trained properly. He could heal, buff, be a warrior a wizard, all in one. It was changed for the sake of team play. GW2 just went 17 years backwards in game designing.

let me rephrase. you think it is flawed. As seen in game by speed clearers though, anet succeeded in their goal of making it possible to support, dps and control at the same time. What this demonstrates is that the support role in gw2 is working as intended (as in, you can perform it in addition to two other roles) but that you simply don’t like it. So to answer the OP – the non DPS roles in this game are crucial, LoSing, offensive buffing and damage mitigation are all crucial support and control aspects required to make it possible to deal as much damage as you can.

This zerker thing saddens me greatly. It encourages less diversity of game play and builds. With all this variety of new stats and new ones coming out (like Sinister’s) it makes me wonder why Anet devotes time to making new stat combos. I like the simplified game play GW2 brings for casual players, but I’d also don’t mind some thinking and creativity which is what PvE doesn’t even come close to requiring – at least most of the time.

Remove berserker. Remove assassin’s. Remove rampagers.

Everyone moves to the next best set of DPS gear.

How does a stat combination “encourage less diversity” when there would be the exact same amount of diversity if you removed it, and any similar to it?

And why do people throw around this “diversity” buzz word like it’s some sort of holy grail? What if diversity involves a playstyle you don’t like? What if, like in the case of GW2, we have a broad range of builds but they’re all support and DPS centric? It’s diverse but you simply don’t like the diversity offered to you.

You’re not asking for diversity at all, it’s just a buzzword to thinly veil the fact that you wish your playstyle was optimal.

The reason it flopped is because it strictly requires co-ordination, simple as.

Get a group of five random fools together and expecting them to co-ordinate without voice communications, a willingness to even communicate via party chat and the internet being devoid of video guides and there being no “common knowledge” pug strategies is basically impossible.

It’s what explorables were originally meant to be – something an organised group will clear but if you lack that, well you won’t clear it. The problem is the rewards for it don’t justify the challenge – and the fact that it takes like half an hour to complete for 2g, tokens and 0.000000000001% chance to get a skin is also why people don’t bother.

Think of it like Arah p4, except with a bunch of unskippable cutscenes. It’s like a black hole for pug tactics so nobody bothers with it, there’s barely any footage of it, and what footage there is is stuff performed by high-end guilds doing things you’ll never get in a pug.

The ability to sell dungeon paths causes nothing but trouble. Either the buyer gets scammed or the seller gets ‘grieved’. Best solution would be to remove it from the game entirely, for the sake of a more pleasant community.

In Dragon Age: Origins, there’s no reason for basic maces and axes to exist because basic swords or named axes/maces/swords are just outright superior. So shall we remove them? Or shall we keep them in for flavour, roleplaying preferences and other reasons? We keep them in.

In Guild Wars 2 PvE there’s not much reason for non-damage centric stat combinations to exist because damage-centric stat combinations are (from an efficiency perspective) strictly superior. No, of course not. We keep them in for flavour, roleplaying preferences and other reasons. Not so good at taking damage? Well, wear these defensive pieces. Not interested in dodging everything? Well wear these defensive pieces. Want to make your heals for your party more potent? Well we’ve got healing power and boon duration for your regeneration.

It’s all about preferences. If video games were designed entirely with metas in place, league of legends would have like 20 champions and all the others would be deleted, GW2 would have like barely any gear stat combinations, dragon age origins would exclusively have basic swords and named weapons and armours, magic the gathering would exclusively have constructed format staples printed in their set releases and so on and so forth.

Designing exclusively for metas is stupid, hence why companies don’t do it. Wizards of the Coast design their magic cards for constructed formats, limited formats and certain player personalities (“Johnny”, “Vorthos”, “Spike” and “Timmy”). But guess what? When I open my booster packs, while I want constructed staples I most likely pick up 15 cards of limited or casual garbage which I don’t want. Does this mean it’s pointless? Nope, it’s for limited and other players who might enjoy big flashy spells, or want a big creature which is at a low rarity since they can’t afford rare ones.

They need to decide whether they really want that multitude of choices (but then they’ll all need to mean something, and be useful), or if they want the action system that makes most of them irrelevant (in which case they need to severely limit the options available).

Or they preserve the status quo. Status quo is good.

and using wall of reflection requires timing to use when a boss is actually using their projectiles, retreat requires timing to block a relevant attack, a warrior needs to place their banners in the more relevant fights rather than every trash mob, a thief needs to place their smoke screen during a mesmer/guardian’s reflect downtime and so on and so forth.

“hitting as many allies as possible” literally just means using a utility skill while around people, I don’t get how that is so exciting when you do that anyway. guardian tome can burst heal as well.

you literally could have just said “I find healing more interesting than the support options currently present in the game” but instead you’re trying to make it sound a lot more awesome than it actually is, when what you’re asking for is already present in the game.

Dungeons is supposed to be group content, if you can’t do it on a group you don’t do it. This game already feels a lot like single-player mode, no need to improve that single-player even further.

(Plus, even if this was the greatest idea ever and recognized by Anet that should me implemented ASAP, you would have to way for the feature patch of 2016)

Ah ok, if boss cam is fixed, then melee is fine. The boss cam was just…so bad.

There is absolutely no excuse for ranging when I can take a low AR character, play on bad latency and survive with two melee sets.

GS is one of the best weapon to spam illusions (and sometimes you need to shatter with a non shatter build)

You don’t need to spam illusions ever. Every illusion you create, you should ask yourself why you are doing it. Is it to get full compounding power procs? Is it just a damage phantasm? Is it for projectile reflection? The only time I can honestly think you’d want easy access to clones would be fights you want to interrupt attacks on – so a diversion shatter on the imbued shaman and then interrupting his massive lava font attack.

GS has a PUSH skill

focus has a very precise pull and push skill.

GS has a ranged boonstrip.

Sword has a melee boon strip every 2.4 seconds.

GS can achieve long cripple uptime (with focus also) that makes many fight extremely easier.

Everything is already viable, just not optimal. The gap between damage output on gear stats does not need to be decreased. If you have trouble dodging or want to RP as a tank/healer you shouldn’t have damage even close to a glass cannon, you should have to gear and trait ‘properly’ if you want to output good dps otherwise there is no risk/reward.

DPS means either GS/LB or GS/Axe+something. Anything else on a warrior is not only sub-par, but so bad you will be kicked out of most parties in dungeons for not carrying your own weight. Condi damage means NOTHING in PvE. Also Rifle is nigh useless, unfortunately.

You can of course try it out and play the hell out of it if you like it, but just do it solo and do not burden others with it: there are enough staff guards that need to be carried through dungeons already…

thieves and warriors are faster than guards fo sure but if u play with meditations and 1handsword + gs you got 2 ports + 1 leap . in addition to that u can use traveller runes and in the end ur speed isnt that bad^^ (and your damage is higher than with war)

2nd Fastest guard soloing lupi. 5:18. He relied on perfect reflects to do 1/3 to 1/2 oh lupi’s hp bar to get anywhere close to that fast. He also pushed him to wall.

A war solo that doesn’t use the wall in any phase so it shortened his time by a minimum of 10s. He did it in 4:50. That’s only his damage, no reflecting the projectiles to double his dps for free.

Guard record 4:24. He self admits to “heavy abusing of reflections”

War record 4:18. Only his own damage to bring down Lupi’s hp bar. He used the wall

Post patch for same war 4:29 and he claims it wasn’t that good.

Warrior has higher dps. If you count abusing reflects vs bosses that spam projectiles, then guard has comparable dps. Guards are a favorite in speed runs because their aiges means you spend time attacking instead of dodging. They also have said reflections for abusing boss mechanics and making it easier for other party members to continue dpsing.

PS. Sorry if this gets posted multiple times. Forum kept crashing and so I tried to resubmit this a few times only to have it keep crashing.

Just a quick suggestion as a small event annoyed me earlier. There I was, making a LFM for Sorrows Embrace speedrun, asking for specific classes… the people then join with classes I didn’t ask for and proceed to kick me for wanting other classes played. I believe there should be a party leader system that dictates the group, allowing players to be kicked without asking others and also preventing them from being kicked so stupid stuff like that doesn’t happen. May I also suggest that you implement a mechanic that allows people to look for certain classes within the LFG?… that would help a lot and prevent the wrong classes joining and making trouble.

Seriously, whats the point in requiring something if other people are just going to ignore that and then kick you from your own lfg making you have to look again and set up the whole LFG system once more, it gets on my nerves.

If you force people to fight bosses in a certain way then more and more people will try to find exploits and safe spots to cheese it. Or just not do the content. And an anti stacking mechanic like that will probably be very easy to exploit and prevent the boss from not attacking anyone (Move in and out of stack spot, watch boss get stuck running between spots).

The best solution is just to make bosses dangerous so there is risk when you stack. Just like they did with the spider queens poison. This forces you to have a proper plan when you stack to dps a boss.

Or they could just make it so the bosses AoE barrage of doom is used anytime X amount of players are so close to each other so one person moving doesn’t phase the AI.

let’s be honest here, you’re not even thinking before you post these ideas

I honestly get kind of worried that ANet will take on board these “make it so X and Y active defense mechanics don’t work on boss Z” suggestions. I mean if you make a game with active combat reliant on combat awareness, why would you then punish people who have the reflexes to actually dodge boss choreographs?

And if a raid is going to force us to spread out in a fight it would be nice if it was for a legitimate reason and not just "well, the community didn’t like meleeing so let’s have it so everyone runs around with ranged weapons because raid boss A has big scary one-shot pulsing PbAoE of doom.

Taking feedback from the community is good but I think the sillier ideas or ones fueled by resentment and completely disregarding sense should be filtered.

Incorrect. What actually happens is the no-requirement groups fill a lot quicker, while the berserker only ones take a lot longer to fill so they’re the only ones you see on the LFG. One time I did a full Arah p2 solo, exited the instance and there was this same guy still looking for a group.

like to use GS and Sword/Focus for AoE-situations. I end up using it quite often in Fractals, even while stacking up in a corner. You know… start in GS, use 2, 3 and 4, switch to sword and finish them (if they are still alive, that is). Mirror Blade and iZerker do a really nice bit of damage to stacked groups of mobs. And it’s our only AoE aside from Staff 5 and iWarden (and sword cleave of course).

Placebo. You think the mirror blade bounces are doing nice damage but you’d do more just using sword auto. Warden covers cleave, mind stab is basically just a sword auto attack.

Also, in the Maw-fight it’s pretty much our only option (aside from spamming Mantra of Pain, which would be ridiculous) to kill tentacles without summoning illusions (some parties don’t like if you do that there, since the fight could (omfgtheworldwillend!) take a minute or two longer). It’s also a good option in every fight where the party doesn’t stack up and you need to range mobs/bosses. And yes, that happens to be the case VERY often, unless you are in a speedrun-group.

Or …. you can melee. Meleeing tentacles really isn’t that hard – it’s pretty much just dodge the moment they do an animation.

You also have yet to provide any example of “[a fight] you need to range [the] mobs/bosses”.

I keep asking for real examples and people keep giving me ones you can just melee on.

Also, obligatory reference to “well I don’t run in a speed clear group” – spoiler alert I rarely run in speed run groups either – and I would consider myself an average player anyway, so it’s not like you need to be some sort of mlg pro to melee bosses.

What we need is less excuses to range and more people trying to learn to melee and figure out boss choreographs. Downing is fine. Dying is fine. The key is learning the tells – and then putting your knowledge in to practice by meleeing.

I am so kitten sick of stacking.

It effectively ruins all the dungeon content in the game. No more fighting the boss as it was designed. Nope, gotta all sit in a weird corner watching my cooldowns go off. Oh, and this time it decided to magically not work, so we have to go try it again.

I know all you professional dungeon runners are in love with the idea of cheesing down content to get it done faster, but for all of us that actually enjoy fighting bosses and doing PvE content, stacking is killing our love for this game.

I just have to wonder why ANet lets this kind of thing go. Why are they just enabling their playerbase to just cheat their way through dungeons? Doesn’t that go against everything game designers and developers are supposed to stand for?

I don’t know. I’m just so kitten sick of cheesing my way through every bit of content in this game.

I understand your frustration with having a nerf to your class/build but this is honestly a step in the right direction for Warriors.

No, it isn’t. Bad in PvP, balanced in PvE, balanced in WvW. And yet they nerf the damage of two of the skills. Because clearly if they kept that 5% GS would be overpowered and format warping.

To be honest I disagree with this nerf to base damage on warrior greatsword. This nerf feel totally off. What make GS strong is a combination of traits and especially 1 trait which is forcefull greatsword.
This is the one and only trait in game that provide might on crit without ICD. Just Add a 1 second ICD to this trait, without touching to GS base damage and PvE GS warrior will be balanced.

It’s already balanced. Sticking an ICD on Forceful Greatsword basically means “delete your greatsword and never use it again”. The use of the weapon in PvE has an enormous reliance on this trait.

How is GS not balanced, by the way? It makes a big number but does DPS on par with other classes regardless of this big number, so where is the issue?

haven’t tried it and don’t intend to.

regarding the people asking about the game, I’d honestly say give it a go. the downsides i’d say are that I didn’t really connect with the protagonist in the same way as i did with the warden or shepard (who i genuinely enjoyed as characters, though the VA for the inquisitor was very nice i don’t think i took too much to the character itself). the final mission is also extremely abrupt (you start the final quest and then it’s like boom, boss is right there, go fight, pretty much no build up at all which felt really weird).

race-gating templar armour also extremely annoyed me, though luckily you can get grey warden gear which looks almost as cool, though it’s only a tier-2 schematic so it’s not the best stats possible by the end of the game. there’s a few very dull quests like fetching crystal shards, and there were generic fetch quests which i didn’t even bother doing unless it was actually on the way while i was doing another quest in which case sure, i’ll hand it in.

overall i’d say strong characters, maybe a bit of a short story (though what we have is on the whole well-made), if you’re a diehard of the lore there’s a few mahoooooosive reveals in the later part of the game (like huge, huge, been waiting over half a decade for clarification on this huge), combat is fine and the controls I got used to after a while. very annoying how squishy dagger rogues are though, since i built sera in to one and she would just melt when there were mobs flinging AOE everywhere.

also, there are absolutely zero recycled environments. the first DA game with no recycled environments anywhere, and the environments themselves are gorgeous. it just pains me that we didn’t get to see more of val royeaux.

The ironic part about it is that guang truly thinks warriors have very low survivability.

Warriors on their own aren’t so great. They need to know to play. But warriors with some guardian support? Different matter entirely.

I’d have to disagree(about the not being so great on their own part).

I mean yes meta axe you might have some trouble with some bleed stacks but using something like hambow is not only highly self sustaining, its got CC and can synergize well with phalanx strength regardless of what stat archetype you choose.

You might not deal as much sustained damage in a corner strat but if people are running around like headless chickens you can certainly deliver group support and CC with hambow.

It sounds crazy I know but I’ve 3 manned that entire bandit room in CM with the two huge groups charging in without corner stacking them with a condi mesmer and a bunker engie, with me doing hambow, I think that alone should speak of something.

If there is going to be a CDI about developer communication, I really feel an answer is needed in regards to communication with the dungeon community. It feels like for all intents and purposes we might as well not exist, there’s that little interaction.

(Though honestly I’ve had a great deal of fun lately joining groups like this with my meta builds and carrying hard. I never ever complain about anything and follow the group in stacking or not if I do this though.)

This is pretty much what I do. No point bragging, no point telling them what to do. Just carry on silently and let your carrying do all the talking, a lot of pugs find it incredible to watch.

switch utilities dependent on situation, stack mantras on the first 3 builds if theres no utilities worth taking so you can get a 4% damage modifier per mantra

In general, this thread is a ‘why do they hate us?’

I find in my own life that the most common answer to that question is ’it’s because I’m being obnoxious’.

That’s the thing I’d like to have folks get out of this. As easy as it is to look outward and blame/insult others it’s much more useful, if you actually care about fixing the situation, to look inwards

for the record, it’s the guild you named which is what releases a whole load of video guides on different classes, and in the past how to even perform dungeon paths (like, strife era).

and then you’ve got people like me who read posts on here of some guy who wanted to know how to solo lupicus with no energy sigils (couldn’t afford them) so I booted up my game and sent two of them over to him.

but sure, we’re filthy scum.

want to know why people here are fed up of “casuals” and whatever other perjoratives they throw around? it’s because of attitudes like this. you bust your balls to help the community and then you get it thrown in your face because people don’t know what they’re talking about and would rather trash talk groups of people who they don’t even understand. not saying the other end of it (the side referring to others as casuals, etc.) is in the right, but regardless.

People are against instanced raids because it means they actually have to work together with people, not leech and actually do their part. They just want to do their thing and not give a **** about anyone else, and therefore because of this, nobody deserves instanced raids because how dare others expect me to pull my weight.

Why do you think class balance should be based around pug misconceptions? You take heavy classes because they’re just easy mode, not because they’re efficient.

Class balance in dungeons is fine, people are just dumb and think warriors are overpowered because apparently we’re still in 2012.
