Here’s my suggestion – rather than complain, go and play GW1 if you want your precious build diversity back. It’s a waste of time trying to hold a conversation with you if you are literally just going to blank everything I say, and you would be much happier playing a game you enjoyed.

Not really. Your gear is basically your expectation of how much damage you expect to take – your traits are where your play style is. If you stack damage modifiers, clearly you want to deal a lot of damage. If you take heal on X, heal if Y, apply defensive boon if Z traits, then you’re wanting to play a defensive build.

Addressing a misconception about AP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: maha.7902

maha.7902

So the OP is about how AP isn’t a measure of player skill but it’s the best elite groups have to initially filter the rift-raft.

My point, as the rift-raft, was it’s near impossible to do dungeons because everyone LFP are excluding my kind. Forming a group on my own had gotten me kicked because players who joined my group because they didn’t think I measured up to their eliteness and therefore hijack my attempt to get experience in a dungeon by taking my group for themselves. Or alternatively, quit mid dungeon because it’s not going fast enough for them, even though the comment says we will be taking it slow, screwing the remaining players over.

It’s the sense of entitlement that dungeons are only for elites and if you aren’t already, go home that I’m rallying against.

I have made anyone welcome parties and that has never happened to me. If people are crying the run isn’t going fast enough they can just leave anyway, it’s not like I care. And if you want experience in dungeons you can always join the mentor guild in the dungeon subforum and get experience in any instance you want in a friendly, controlled environment.

Ah yes, “crit resistance” because adding a mechanic which simply makes people do less damage and nothing else is clearly what this game’s bosses need.

Here’s an eye-opener – all bosses in this game which are objects are 100% crit resistant. Guess what builds are used for them? Yes, the DPS ones full of damage modifiers, and with (at least for the boss) redundant on-crit effects.

Potential solution for stacking

The reason I am against stacking is because it is so kitten simplistic. I`ve been a hardcore raider for years and to me this game is just childs-play, with its lack of strategy and thought required. Its hard for me to understand why ANYONE would fervently defend such a basic game design.

Each to their own I guess.

I’m a hardcore raider so I think I’ll start playing the most casual MMO ever released with no raid content

Am I not allowed to play casual games too?

im saying it’s completely insane to go from a hardcore game to a casual game and then complain that the content is casual.

If I join a nondescript group, and they say “berserker gear” after the first boss (assuming that’s when they notice dps is lacking) and I say “I don’t have any.” or “I am not wearing it because i won’t survive” and do not switch, and they don’t kick me, and we CONTINUEthe dungeon only to be kicked at the last boss as I worked with them to get there, you’re saying that’s justified? That’s not an unjust kicking?
Seriously colesy, what happened to you?

I am saying the kick was justified but the actual timing of it just made it a scumbag move.

But the act itself – you as party leader kicking someone who doesn’t comply with your group’s wishes is perfectly acceptable.

To reiterate – kicking someone for not meeting your requirement is absolutely fine, waiting until the end of the instance to kick them is wrong. This is precisely what I am arguing about, I can understand people being up in arms about someone waiting until the end of the instance to kick you, but the fact that the OP flagrantly disregarded the request of the party leader is what makes it hard for me to feel sympathy for them. It’s like me teaching a dungeon path and some zergburger el33tist comes along demanding speed run, i’ll boot them without a second thought because they don’t meet my requirement (newbies only) and zero ****s will be given. If I wanted to run a story dungeon on LFG and someone was watching the cutscenes after I told them not to, I’d boot them as well.

I just wouldn’t wait until the end of the instance.

Everything is already viable, just not optimal. The gap between damage output on gear stats does not need to be decreased. If you have trouble dodging or want to RP as a tank/healer you shouldn’t have damage even close to a glass cannon, you should have to gear and trait ‘properly’ if you want to output good dps otherwise there is no risk/reward.

Unfortunately being viable in this game just isn’t enough in party gameplay, thanks to the game’s community. The only way non-meta players get slots in parties in this game is if they’re lucky or make their own party (And even then I’ve heard of party leaders being kicked from their own runs for not adhering to the meta), and the community doesn’t even let them take pride in their build. They only care if they “think” your build is useful to them.

And guess how meta players get slots? Making their own parties.

Do you think “zerk only ping gear” lfgs just appear by mandate of god or something? Of course not.

The difference is Meta built players are allowed virtually everywhere. No Zerk allowed parties are practically non-existant. Zerk only parties are dime a dozen.
Unmarked parties can even be assumed to be zerk parties.

How is a non-berserker user not being allowed in a berserker party a problem?

This is like saying (now I’m not saying meta = good, but bear with me …)

“The difference is good players are allowed virtually everywhere. Casual run parties are practically non-existent. Parties asking for good players are dime a dozen. Unmarked parties can even be assumed to be wanting good players”.

So of course players who play and gear for efficiency are allowed anywhere, and players who don’t aren’t allowed in efficiency-oriented parties. How is this even a problem? Isn’t incompatible players staying away from each other good? It prevents conflict. I don’t run condition warrior in “zerk only” groups, I just make nondescript lfgs and run it there.

Serah Mahariel – Death and Taxes

Full Zerkers ONLY!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: maha.7902

maha.7902

No, there will always be one geartype that is more efficient than others for one, specific part of the game. Single dungeon, single bossfight, etc. What we have in GW2 however is one geartype that is more efficient than any other for almost whole of PvE (and i say “almost” only in case i forgot something, and because there are some small parts where gear doesn’t matter at all).

And why “should” it be one specific part? What part of gaming declares that this is something that must be maintained?

You know, I’ve been playing League of Legends lately, and there’s a bunch of different items you can buy. Generally there are set builds you can go with when buying them (mages stack ability power which increases their damage, physical damage characters use items with +damage, +attack speed etc. to increase their damage, tanks get +health, +armour +magic resist etc.). Now, depending on how games go you might take a different route (oh we’re getting wrecked by casters let’s build some magic resistance rather than buff our DPS otherwise we’ll pop like a water balloon when the team fight starts) but there are generally standard routes you take. As an AP champion I basically always go deathfire grasp > rabadon’s deathcap > zhonya’s hourglass along with some small side purchases like boots, but there’s always generally a set path to take. In GW2 it’s the same, except you remove tanks from the equation and are left with, I guess the league equivalent of just your squishy spike damage classes. Therefore the natural progression is to build glass, and since you won’t be dealing with an enemy destroying you badly (most likely) you can repeat this all the time. If you do find the enemy giving you trouble, I mean there’s like knight’s gear which would be the GW2 equivalent of +armour and +magic resist.

The general problem with berserker is not because it offers best dps (some gear set will always be in that place). The problem lies that the combat engine changed the “high risk high reward” case into a “High reward for risk that just maybe is a bit higher. And often is actually lower”.

Do I like, need to link the no-dodge arah path 2 video?

Because you won’t be doing arah path 2 with no dodging in berserker gear.

It’s high risk, high reward, it’s just we’ve had mostly the same content for two years so of course most people will go glass.

This.
I tend to play glass in games where such is available. I don’t try to claim that it makes me in any way better than anyone else. Its just what I enjoy. In my opinion, as much better expressed by Astralporing, GW2’s cannons just are not very glass.

Mesmers, necros and warriors are the least glassy I feel because of massive HP and for the mesmers and warriors, evades and blocks built in to their standard weapon sets. The rest of the classes just pop like a water balloon if you’re in a dangerous situation unless you know what you’re doing.

Who? Me? Why should I solo a champ that was designed to be a five-men encounter?
The very fact that you can relatively easy solo it shows that this boss isn’t strong enough to trouble an experienced party. Lupi will wreck new players. But once they know the trick it’s easy. And thanks for picking the best designed fight in the whole game as reprentation of bad boss mechanics.

If you sit and practice a boss for 7+ hours (how long it took me to get my first solo, spread over two days) then I’d say you deserve to be able to solo it. Other people take 12+, 24+, 48+, etc. hours to learn to solo.

The fact that you can solo it is proof that the game encourages skill, and that with skill you can overcome pretty much anything as long as it isn’t strictly player-gated. This is not bad design, this is good design.

Will Anet ever make Non-DPS role important?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: maha.7902

maha.7902

the only way to break DPS depending groups is by making dungeons depend on conditions, places where regular damage simply doesn’t work and where conditions are the only dmg dealers.

But conditions do DPS. The problem is, it caps at around ~7,000.

or what about a dungeon where DPS simply has no use, you need to gear on defense and dmg avoidance, regen if needed.

That sounds absolutely atrocious – it would be full of running around in circles waiting for time gates.

DPS is bad because some professions lack the so called “meta DPS”, conditions and boons on the other hand is one thing every single profession has plenty of and is somewhat equal on power.

Mesmer lacks reliable condition application, thieves can only apply bleeds and poison, elementalists are weak on condition application, guardians can only apply burning. A warrior can cap bleeds, have full burning uptime and full uptime on 4 stacks of torment – no other profession besides engineer is close to this level of condition application.

Mossman ... welp

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: maha.7902

maha.7902

the strategy for mossman which we tend to use on 49/50 is we have a guardian in knights who tries to hold aggro, chaining aegis (focus 5, retreat, f3, renewed, f3, etc.) while the rest of the team wail on him. We put reflects/absorption up to deal with the dancing dagger, and keep him perma-crippled/chilled so the guardian can backpedal. if he switches aggro, the person taking it backpedals and we get behind mossman again. whatever you do, don’t dodge in to your party or he’ll just cleave and throw them all in the trash can.

i’m pretty sure you can’t expect pugs to do anything like this though, the fight will be too chaotic to control since nobody will be aware of what they should be doing.

Serious Q: How to speed run?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: maha.7902

maha.7902

1: How do you come up with these strategies?(noteable ones being AC p1 hodgins split, and the new IV se p3 portal strats)

you think “how can I do this quicker” and you try to come up with solutions. funny thing actually, it reminds me of doing an arah record months and months and months ago (pre-ele stacking meta) and we goofed around with using a load of ice bows on the first phase of lupicus to try and burst him down to phase two for the reflect kill. the damage was really good obviously but for some reason we didn’t latch on to it and just stuck with 2x warrior, 1x ele and “normal” strats for some reason.

2: How long does it take minimum to maximum to actually get a record run?

depends how quickly you can nail down the actual strategies. actual execution probably only takes between a few hours and a day.

3: If a strategy does not work because of players executing them incorrectly, do you stick with it if in theory, they should speed up the run?

you get better players

4: How often do you expect fail runs and resets?

all the time

if you’re trying to do a precise run, sometimes with RNG factors involved, everyone needs to be 100% on point, and sometimes people mess up, it just happens. this is why you’ll have fail/out-take videos of speed runs because you will goof up a run all the time for hours until you get it right unless you get lucky. think of something like the orbs in arah p3, having to do those quickly without anyone slipping up is probably annoying.

Stacking has become the norm. deal with it

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: maha.7902

maha.7902

First I disagree. I still think a trinity even though its repeatable and boring its still more complex than LOS/Stacking which is also repeatable. At least moving around fighting adds and whatever extra mechanic the fight has in the usual trinity fight is less mind numbing.

It’s literally not more complex. You’re throwing the words “complex” and “depth” around but they have no meaning.

So, fights with adds:

Mossman and Archdiviner. These are fun fights, you should try them some time.

You have, repetitive method 1 (trinity) and repetitive method 2 (LOS/Stack). One base its self in using 3 diferent roles, positioning, moving, taking up alts, change targets, etc. The other one is just stand still (for the vast majority of the fights) and follow skill rotation (which is also used in trinity, don’t forget that trinity also includes skill rotation, interrupts, reflects, everything you do in GW2).

There are roles in GW2 as well – you’re just choosing to conveniently ignore them.

Take our latest invitational where groups had a 2 ele, 1 thief, 1 warrior 1 guard composition:

You had elementalists for offensive support (might, fury) and DPS
You had thieves for their unique stealth utility, projectile absorption if need be and damage mitigation through blinds plus damage
You had warrior supporting with banners, battle res and their own damage
You had guardian which was basically pure defensive support offering blocks, reflection, condition cleansing, mob positioning and further damage mitigation through blinds.

Now, regarding your personal question to me, which I see no point at all in this discussion; but I’ll reply none the less. Depends on what level of playing it you refer to. At this point I just log in, rush 4 dungeons with pugs and log out. I only dedicate 1 – 1.5 hrs a day. If I have more time, I get outside and roam some map to do events or wvw or some world bosses. I’d love to dedicate more to it but I don’t see the point, and trust me; I don’t even play it for the dungeons; I just do that to get some gold in little time while I wait for new content.

So if you’re hardly even playing the game, why even post in the forum? You’re just adding a negative aura by making incorrect critique about a game you literally hardly even play.

Some people just flat out don’t want to run meta, and the people who drone the meta need to get over that.

to this video:

I have a 28,650 hundred blades recorded starting at 18 might, and a 10,117 eviscerate at 23 might too.

These are all pre-hb/ww nerf too, so we’ve basically had ~20% of our hundred blades DPS shaved off for absolutely no reason.

Well, in their defense, it’s not all that intuitive.

Sure, people posting on this forum might have some idea that Personal Defense options are just sort of these unspoken deadzones in PvE character building. But it’s not like the game itself does anything to make it clear those options are PvP only.

Imagine how confusing that is for somebody new?

And before anybody pulls the Meta card on me. This would also be true even in the ideal scenario where the Support/Control/DPS trinity existed. Because personal defense doesn’t seemingly have anymore relevancy on those two lost roles than it does DPS.

A support/DPS/control trinity already exists.

It’s just control is restricted by defiant to stop bad players from smashing CC skills off of cooldown, support isn’t gear reliant and DPS is something all classes can apply.

New encounters is the way you go about fixing the only zerker all the time.

for a time, sure. but once people figure out what skills to dodge/mitigate you’ll fall back in to the “use as little passive defense as possible and maximise your offensive stats” situation again. a bit like how people tried to hail the wurm or silverwastes as “the end of zerker” and then people just carry on using it anyway.

like … lol, people will literally cling on to anything to satisfy their fantasies.

I want my character to be optimal at all times because I can’t stand the idea that I could be better so it would take that stress off if they said no matter what you do you won’t be optimal 100% of the time.

why is being optimal 100% of the time bad again?

. If I were a condi class in my example I would not be optimal for add duty. As a power build I wouldn’t be optimal on boss damage. That is appealing to me

and what if you are someone who enjoys condition builds but would rather deal with adds in an encounter than the boss? you’re not appealing to them, are you?

1.) It would HOPEFULLY eliminate the “link your zerker or you’re out” mentality

“If you’re clearing adds, use berserker or gtfo, if you’re on the boss use sinister/rabid or gtfo, thanks”

so no, it wouldn’t.

2.) Having different roles even if they are all damage roles within an encounter.

you already have different roles within encounters. you’ve got might stackers, CC appliers and damage mitigation roles

it honestly blows my mind that people think carrying multiple sets of gear is even remotely fun and that gear having a different prefix or your damage numbers appearing differently (oh this is a white number, oh this is a white number surrounded by red, oh this is a white number with a little flame or red droplet next to it!) is so incredibly interesting. it’s not. as someone hwo carries two sets of gear along with a bunch of other consumables it’s just annoying and a hassle to carry around, and I wish the game just had build templates so I could just switch between builds without having to reassign all of my traits.

Blame the Guardian

I’m not talking about DPS. You wanna talk dps now? Okay, the DPS on guardian is way less either way you don’t see it because you’re not accounting the cooldowns, the number of moves meant for damage, and how the damage gets delivered. Those three are completely different on both classes, which is why warrior deals more damage, maybe you should look into that. I’m going to cease replying on this thread since everyone wants everyone to shut up.

You compared the damage of two skills and claimed one did 12,000 damage and the other did 7,000 damage. I informed you of the cast times of the skills, and asked you which one deals more damage. To save you the trouble, your whirling wrath on its own had a DPS of 9,333 and your hundred blades had a DPS of 3,428. When I compared the DPS of autoattack chains on guardian and warrior, I got 3,402 with guardian GS and 3,448 with warrior.

I can’t even remember if that was with unscathed contender on the guardian or not – but the point is this:

Scale up the damage to account for 25 might, 25 vuln, banners etc. and you’ll get pretty similar damage. Guardian pulls ahead if it has unscathed contender – the advantage with warrior is that if you are in a group incapable of buffing effectively, it can sustain 20+ might stacks with signet of rage, for great justice and forceful greatsword – when you allow the guardian to get the same buffs, the damage evens out. So basically – a guardian without unscathed contender does around 900 less DPS than a maximum DPS warrior, so it ’s not “way less” damage at all.

I bet warrior is the highest damage class too, and the best groups are either 4 warriors and a mesmer, or a guardian.

don’t h8, we did a 3-hour dungeon tour with 4w1g, you just roll your face over your keyboard and easy mode every fight :p

Will Anet ever make Non-DPS role important?

If they got rid of berserker and assassin stats we would all literally just bandwagon on to the third highest DPS stat combination(s). Whether this meant zealots, valkyrie, zealot/valk mix, celestial or whatever, we would just take the next highest DPS. Is it then diversity if we simply migrate to another stat?

Yeah, just read “crit resistance” and ignore everything else in my post.

Well afterwards you just wrote “defensive adjustments” and mentioned lower HP.

How does lowering a mob’s HP but making it crit immune make a player want to experiment with different builds? Literally all it is is a damage throttle.

Of course, because everything up to such a boss (or after it, in case of fractals – wait, fractals are dungeons…right?) is best fought with the holy trinity, that is power, precision and ferocity.

Assume a dungeon is full of boss objects. Berserker users will be too lazy to switch to soldier, weaker players will just be able to go full soldier and be optimal which is atrocious and the game has done a good job of disallowing. It turns on-crit traits in to complete blanks so either the berserker users will again be too lazy to retrait (or not need to since they hit the damage modifiers anyway) or they’ll just shift the redundant traits in to another line for more DPS versus objects.

At least help me improve the build.

It’s gonna be painful but if you’re after the ‘perfect’ build for PvE, it’s not going to be utilizing condition damage or ‘tanking’.

Long story short, ‘tanking’ is not a thing, especially given you have a dodge key that works against most attacks in PvE and conditions are not going to be optimal damage.

Lots of groups do not even bother to gearcheck or ask what your build is. As soon as they see you are a ranger they kick you. Funnily enough once you run with guildies they love you for being a ranger as they know you are capable and doing the right things.

Having said that, i fully understand pugs. A warriors performance is mostly the same if you are pro or simply smashing your head into the keyboard. So for safety sake, its better to take a warrior

Even though warrior is easy to get good with, I’ll tell you now, the difference between good and bad warriors is like night and day, it really sticks out.

If anything, I really look forward to seeing Team Mist represents most of the EU All-Star Team. They are beastly and have that royal flair of true elitists. Helseth and Sizer both hold my interest (and vote).

I don’t find watching little asuras going afk on points with bunker builds that interesting tbh

PvF is basically tower defense – you have unending waves of PHYWs bearing down on our elitist fortifications and we have to fend off their infestation while being given brief respites before another wave of anti-stackers appear in view.

I cant help it.

Perspective. Im sure the unintelligent and toxic pve pug community feels welcome. Especially since Im part of it.

I actually just read your post fully. Had to skim doing charts.

Stupid experiences? Post em.
Wrong? I sure as heck wont call anyone out on anything thats wrong again. Ive learned my lesson.
Oddly enough this feels almost exactly like when I tell a person ingame a strat and they start berating me about how im ruining their game and that they will phtw.

Even more oddly enough. If the person you wrote the ele thing to was a forumer and posted your convo in that other thread people would have been lolling.

So we spend months trying to repair our reputation and you come along and literally scare people off.
