you might as well have said

idk man, if you want to play better you’ll take their advice, if you want to just do what you enjoy then that’s cool too

Oh look it’s this thread again.

Some of us don’t live on the forums.

If you’re just going to make stacking thread #8436292048472 and then probably just not bother reading your thread after the first day since you “don’t live on the forums” then maybe step back, think for a minute and decide not to post the thread. I’ll be blunt – nobody here is interested in reading another solution thread for an imaginary problem.

And once again rT show their inability to offer actual proof by uploading a bad run where ranged classes suicided themselves on Belka’s shield, where a ranger didn’t even make the skip to abomination, where scholar buff was poorly maintained in general, a completely unremarkable Lupicus, a disaster at Alphard, a sketchy skip to Brie with low stealth uptime and an average Brie.

You’ve argued relentlessly with Guang for pages and pages and pages on end, so when he says “run this comp and tell me how it goes”, kitten well you should take it seriously and get a good, solid video of it out so that we can all get a good gauge of how well the composition performs, not a run where people are faceplanting all over the place and making silly mistakes.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think an engi fits in a p2 speed clear composition myself, but if you want to prove that, don’t post a bad video and then go hurrr lol guang ur wrong and sit there brofisting each other, it’s sad, pathetic and you should all be ashamed of yourselves for the complete joke that you’ve all turned this thread in to- and bloody well not the funny type, it’s embarrassing to read.

So here’s what I recommend.

Get serious, get five people willing to bring their A-game and post a smooth p2 run with the Guang composition. This doesn’t mean perfect, just smooth. Then we can analyse the parts where an engineer is insufficient and where X class would have been better, and we can also analyse the bonuses an engineer brought and why it was better for them to be there than Y class.

This is just my opinion, not that of Death and Taxes as a whole.

Why are you playing GW2 if you don’t like the mechanics of the combat?

Maybe he fell for their advertising?

And only after spending 50£ learned all there is to it is stack and mash.

how about you … Stop playing? If you don’t enjoy a game doesn’t it make sense to stop playing it? It’s like everyone on this forum is addicted to self flagellation, they whine about stacking over and over again and just … Carry on playing, making themselves annoyed and whining some more. I really don’t know. The play-how-you-want crowd are really hypocritical, because they’re getting mad at someone for playing how they want.

That’s not the problem at all. It’s when some of play how I tell you crowd act out, harrassing and kicking people. I don’t see play how you want people insulting players for wrong builds, etc…accusing them being selfish and wasting people’s time … or kicking people from teams.

No, instead you see them asking for berserker gear to be nerfed, removed, and a serving of angry condescension, with phrases like “monkey rolling”, “zerkids”, “exploiters”, “stack and press random keys” and the obligatory “elitist” when someone says something they disagree with, because you just can’t have arguments without ad hominems being thrown around on this forum.

Both sides are in the wrong, but don’t pretend that the “play how you want” crowd is in the clear here, because they’re absolutely not.

Firstly, most players who set AP requirements are bad and looking for a carry, actual experienced players can pull their own weight and don’t need to set requirements. Secondly, make your own group on the lfg or join the dungeon mentor guild and get in to contact with a mentor. So you have two choices – sit here and complain or be proactive, learn dungeons, get groups and have fun. I know which one I would pick.

Will Anet ever make Non-DPS role important?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: maha.7902

maha.7902

I’m pretty sure in GW1 speed clears, guilds used to just ball up all of the mobs and just burn them down.

First off maha you missed my point entirely. The meta is the meta because it is what Anet decided it should be. If they wanted the meta to be other than what it is, they would make different choices when encountering designs.

Robert Hrouda once said a long time ago I believe that if you’re unfamiliar with content you’ll want some defenses, but that (this is before offensive dps teams were even a thing) if you get good at it you can run a glass cannon spec. So yes, being able to clear content with glass cannons is intended. This is not a bad thing, it just means that as you learn the game you can perform content with less and less passive defenses and you’re not forced to take them.

The problem is.. that while they may have promised the Trinity of damage, Control, and Support…. somewhere along the line they DID provide the tools for them….Just Not the NEED for them.

Support is used when granting might, fury, aegis, protection, reflection, etc. and control is used with LoSing mobs, grouping them together, pushing them. DPS is DPS. I don’t think people realise how fully realised the anet pseudo-trinity is, it works every single time you do a dungeon.

Stacking in Dungeons and how ANET can fix it

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: maha.7902

maha.7902

You stack not because you enjoy it. Because it’s the fastest way to get your reward. Dungeons aren’t rewarding enough to not do speed clears.

I stack when it’s a logical thing to do.

Basic example – do you fight Alphard in the open or do you stack behind a box so that when the daggerstorm happens you aren’t instantly gibbed?

Or do you, like, fight her in the open and then get immediately wasted?

I do not stack when it is illogical. This means groups LoSing bosses where you gain absolutely nothing by LoSing. A basic example would be the final boss of SE p3, there’s basically zero reason to pull it and yet pugs do it because I don’t even know why.

And let’s stop calling them speed clears, garbage 30 minute pug runs of dungeons that have 4 minute world records are not speed runs, let’s stop kidding ourselves. I saw an LFG once of a guy asking for berserker gear for arah path 2, a speed run and then he specifically specified he wanted the path done in 30 minutes tops. People have soloed the path in less time than that. So let’s stop throwing this “speed run” thing around when almost nobody in this thread has even done one before and has no idea what they consist of.

I’m opposing a way that you can get fast rewards in easy mode, and you don’t like it.

You’re literally opposed to players grouping up. Let’s ignore LoSing bosses. Stacking in and of itself is grouping up tightly to either melee or range a boss. You’re opposed to players sticking together to deal with a boss. Do you realise how stupid this sounds?

The dungeons should be more rewarding, and the gameplay should be more rewarding too. Dungeons shouldn’t be a chore. If I wanted to stand still I would play an old outdated game. This game was designed to be very action oriented. Now due to poor dungeon design, players turned it into something else.

The gameplay is rewarding, and dungeons are rewarding. It’s just we’ve had almost the same set of instances for almost two years. After doing something for two years, most people will be bored of it, this is like … human nature.

Not sure why you hate gaming and love farming/grinding. But we need to get out of that mentality. I don’t want to take away your rewards vs time spent. I want to inject some life back into dungies.

If you want to inject life in to them, start soloing them. And not just generic Arah, simple things like AC story, TA story, SE p3, SE p1, HOTW p1 and so on and so forth. Anything which isn’t strictly player-gated (e.g. COE lasers). When you actually have to pay attention to everything around you and not just brain-afk, you’ll enjoy it a lot more.

The reason I reply is firstly to educate people on realising that stacking is both not an issue and that if it’s such a major issue they can make no stack lfgs. Secondly, so that if there is an anet reading that they don’t take the OP seriously because they’re whining about a non issue. You, however, just don’t like stacking, and want to reply in threads with people who share your view so that you can feel good about yourself.

Dungeon Rewards might be a little too good.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: maha.7902

maha.7902

Again, Volkov – He waddles his way down to you from his spawn point. Following the range/melee bit, he should burrow/bomb every time. Yet he only does if a player is outside the nook after his dialog ends. So he has an ability that wipes groups., but doesn’t use it cause everyone is in a tight little ball. Cause that would be mean or something.

Stacking isn’t negating it, what’s actually happening is you’re LoSing and while he’s aware that you’re nearby and trying to find a path to run to you from he doesn’t have direct line of sight for his burrow skill. Stack right in front of him at range and he’ll burrow and dumpster the whole party because he has line of sight.

Fyonna – her mechanics of her encounter are in the room. The one we pull her out of. Otherwise she is a sylvari with a basic melee attack that turns into a spider with a basic melee attack. But it hardly matters cause like everything else downscaled right now, she’s blown up.

We fight her in the middle and just stand in a circle and avoid hitting the eggs. She does her range attack, transforms in to a spider and does a melee attack. She’s harmless no matter where you fight her, stacking is not an issue.

Aldus’ mechanics I’d technically concede. But I somehow doubt a ‘fairly safe spot so long as you don’t target’ is on the level. Ditto with the trees. That’s the problem with most of this.

Aldus you attack on the stairs and reflect his projectiles. Then you try to clear his ice shield ASAP, and you dodge out of his chill AOE when it comes up. There’s nowhere stacking mitigates damage here.

For the tree if you don’t have it blinded it’ll throw you in the trash can with bleeds, and on the path with the mortars around it you need reflects. For the other one with the mosshearts, stability is useful. IIRC you need blinds to prevent the tree applying bleeds in both paths. What most likely happened is you got carried and you didn’t see it doing anything so you immediately drew the conclusion that stacking = cheesing.

So once more – try again please. All you’re showing is that you don’t understand LoSing, stacking or any of the boss’ mechanics, and you just see people sitting in a ball and think that lets you just blow through everything.

Both sides are in the wrong, but don’t pretend that the “play how you want” crowd is in the clear here, because they’re absolutely not.

There are extremists on EACH side but one thing I do know is that if a person truly believes people should play how they want, they won’t tell someone they aren’t playing the right build, complain about what builds others use or kick someone for using a certain build. On the other hand … ALL of those things originated from play how I tell you people and are still being practiced to some degree. Why are ‘elitists’ hated? Well, this sort of explains itself doesn’kitten

So far the only person that I see that deserves respect is Obal because he simply presents information on how to maximize DPS. There is no name calling, labeling, riot act, threats … You guys could learn something from his approach.

Clearly my teaching of others and willingness to let people play what they want, while willing to show them alternatives if they are curious is not worthy of any sort of respect.

Carried Players

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: maha.7902

maha.7902

People that say that dungeons is just about stacking and pressing 1111 are too used to get carried by good groups.

I think a lot of people know exactly what it is that stacking does but use that phrase against typically speed runners as they’re also the ones to use various phrases against pugs. I sometimes accidentally use it knowing that it’s not entirely accurate.

Most know the benefits of stacking for quick revivals from downed, sharing buffs, cleaving to get the most from your attacks, using LoS to get all mobs to one location, and so on. They’re also aware that stackers use their abilities (whether CC, blinds, blocks, etc) to protect the group long enough to DPS whatever they’re fighting down.

I don’t actually think they do.

They see people sitting in a corner and lots of flashes going off, a boss’ HP dropping and everyone topped up on HP and think there’s some magic that happens when you sit in corners.

Why else would it constantly be referred to as an exploit?

1. Make a special stat which affects the way your iframes work. Basically, when you invest no points in that stat, your dodges are, like, only half (or any number here) effective. You would get hit by 50% of damage, you would get stunned for 1.5 seconds instead of 3 and so on. Of course, rebalance numbers across the board.

wat

not even tera does that and that’s a trinity game

what makes you think that would even be a good idea?

3. Make other stats more meaningful. Add an armor penetration stat. Make stat templates or w/e to force people to switch all that kitten mid-run: e.g. there’s a boss with a ton of armor and that shouldn’t mean classes with weak conditions automatically kitten a kitten there. Just put your arpen gear on and be able to contribute.

so make certain content exclusive to other classes and force people to change their gear and waste more inventory slots because … reasons? do you think having to use a different stat prefix suddenly makes your game more interesting? if i was having trouble with a fight and switched from berserker to knight do you think that suddenly makes the fight more interesting because it has a different prefix that has no relevance in game?

4. Design encounters in such a way that they offer you a choice: you could invest into that dodge stat and evade that scary room-wide kitten or you could learn the encounter and sidestep kitten without hampering your DPS.

i literally don’t even see the point in presenting that option

if you don’t know a fight you should be punished by dying and you then learn to sidestep the damage.

5. Make a boss which is invulnerable to damage when not moving.

probably the worst idea of all of them

and this is why I’m grateful people like you have no power over this game, these ideas are absolutely terrible.

Then I’m pretty sure someone will come up with the revolutionary idea rangers or random x class will be worth taking, and then maybe someone will actually bother to l2p said class.
This fgs mania is really starting to look ridiculous. I shiver if I think that those kitten playhowiwants may have a point when they say it’s borderline exploitish. It’s lame, it’s become a stupid thing to behold because it’s completely out of line with other skills -damage-wise.
/avoids kitten flying around
No, no, don’t fling that stuff at me. I know you’re awesome and all, we’re all just poor peasants in front of your awesomeness.
Still, it looks stupid. I tried some dungeons superl33t style with 2-3 ellys and it felt so kittened… I don’t really know how you can endure the boredom of playing the superl33t comp, seriously. I guess you don’t play for… wait for it, wait for it…
Nah, nevermind <3 Lav you.

FGS spamming is the whole reason I avoid doing organised dungeon runs like the plague. How can someone demonstrate their skill when half the fights boil down to press 4 before it kills us? Doing dungeons solo, low man or pugging allows you to test your ability to react, adapt and how consistent you are with your damage mitigation since fights take longer. I dunno. I’m not going to say I play for fun and FGSers play for $$$ since there are people who enjoy melting hp bars like that, but while I found it cool at first it got boring for me after a while. Will Anet ever make Non-DPS role important?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: maha.7902

maha.7902

The big problem is, that the game rewards certain builds..Mostly DPS, while punishing others…Things like Damage over time builds.

Hardly. DoT builds can still clear content, they aren’t punished.

make it so Bosses are weak to damage over time effects but have MORE armor so that direct damage is less effective

Lupicus and the Bersekrer Abomination have ~3,450 armour. Most DPS calculations are created assuming a boss of 2,600 armour – heavier armour targets exist – but Berserker is still preferred. Make the armour too heavy and you just end up with a group taking four berserker players and then the warrior just switches to conditions since they’ll cap bleeds, burn and do some torment all single-handedly.

improve AI, so that they do not stack. Also…add a few More healers that are smart enough to not rush into the front line, Instead stay behind healing everyone else.

How do you “improve the AI so they do not stack”? Like, in a practical sense how do you code that? I’m actually curious. And there are healers in the game, they don’t rush, players just approach them.

Suddenly…. damage over time becomes something to consider. Suddenly… pure DPS builds become less prefered.

Nope.

Zerker or gtfo is the meta because Anet decided it was the meta by designing encounters as they are designed.

every every every every every every every every every

EVERY

EVERY

EVERY

EVERY

single game with combat in all of history has a meta that develops to the point that you take the lowest amount of defenses as possible and maximise your offence. Whether this means dropping a healer, having a DPS perform as off-tank rather than a fully dedicated one, or just maintaining trinity roles but having each player do with the bare minimum of defensively attributed gear possible, it happens. In Dragon Age you have tanks, healers, DPS. People soon realised if you just stacked mages you could absolutely obliterate everything in front of you – and mages could also spec in to healing (or just use healing potions). Since their DPS was so high you didn’t need a tank to hold aggro when you could just make everything explode with incredible speed.

The updates themselves aren’t bad.

The problem is that ArenaNet is so focused on QoL improvements rather than actually adding content, that we’re reaching a point where everything is easily accessible, user friendly and convenient, but that the “everything” itself is just old, stale content.

Making old content less tedious is nice, but the changes need to be supplemented with new content.

Now you can argue that the Living Story is new content, but I see it basically as DLC – and while DLC works in singleplayer games (say, a 30-hour RPG with a 2 1/2 hour DLC is fine), when you’re making 2-hour DLC for a game where players will spend hundreds, if not thousands of hours playing … the content itself is just so negligible it’s pretty much a waste of resources. If they channeled the resources instead in to replayable content (new WvW map which actually effects match-up scores, the fatal flaw in EotM, new PvP maps, new PvP modes, dungeons, fractals, world bosses, PvE maps, etc.) then people wouldn’t be complaining anywhere near as much.

Now I actually enjoyed the latest two LS updates (going from the PS where the voice acting is like two animated bricks talking to each other in cutscenes) and the more assertive role of the player character is nice (though at the same time made clear that they’re simply a major player among other major players, i.e. the world leaders rather than Mr Badarse of Badarseington like what Bioware games tend to do) … but it’s too short. It’s not challenging either.

Have you ever seen P/P thief build? I can dish out a lot of dmg mate

no, you make a big number with unloads. but big number =/= high damage per second. p/p thief damage isn’t really close to d/d damage which is why you were kicked.

I guess this is not selfish, I’m just trying to enjoy the dungeon on another way (not with D/D for example).

“I’m just trying to enjoy the dungeon the way I want and want to disregard the interests of the four other players because my entertainment > their entertainment” sounds pretty selfish to me.

n my mind its cooler if you can kill everymob and actually enjoy the dungeon, rather than stacking on a corner seeing only shinny lights and whatnots.

and who are you to judge what people find fun or not? some people enjoy stacking mobs in corners. some people enjoy stacking them in the open. some people enjoy ranging everything. some people just enjoy the chaos of a mixture of range and melee as a boss jumps around between party members.

so what is it you were saying again? ANet please design dungeons entirely around my interests, I don’t care what other people enjoy?

Is there any chance of Spider Queen being reverted in this case? It had a poison attack it would cast at range, and people could melee to prevent it. This was changed so that the queen used it regardless of proximity which reduced the depth of the encounter.

Maybe we should censor “bad”, “incompetent” and “pug” too. These naughty words hurt my feelings.

Kicked from Fractals for playing what I enjoy

Allot of people tend to react a little out of control. I am using full ascended Beserker on everything plus infusions. My god kitten longbow Barrage was dealing more damage to the grubs then the rifle warrior and two staff spamming guardians that outside of their Wall of Reflection didn’t contribute to the group at all when it comes to DPS. So much for all Zerker I guess.

Besides dropping a healing spring at my teammates who were hit by the shamans arrow doesn’t count for contributing to the party either right? I didn’t tell the whole story.

I don’t think I said anything about your gear. I was talking about utility. You can bring healing spring with a gs/axe-axe build and cleanse while at the same time actively preventing damage with whirling defense and cleave. Your focus on your zerker gear just confirms more that you are too focused on your 5k lb auto attacks rather than supporting your team. You stealth yourself during the grub phase and then take pride in being the last man standing ressing your team.

And anyway, “the rest of my team was crap” is not a good argument for “my build is good”.

In a time where Berserker is the only real way of progressing, then why I am getting hated for using what works at the scene? Because a guardian has access to wall of reflection does that give him a free pass even when the guy is clearly using Cleric’s armor just for the sake of better team contribution? So what I am not standing in range for spotter, or the frost spirit dies instantly wherever you spawn it at the fight. A warrior doesn’t get any flack for camping longbow dropping firefields.

The general conclusion really is that people hate seeing rangers use longbow. Period.

Since when did your team being bad become a valid excuse for not playing that well yourself? And if you really did have a rifle warrior and staff guards why did you even stay in the group? You not telling the whole story from the start of the thread just seems suspicious to me.

My PUG story...

I’ve bumped in to Langrim in Arah once or twice on ranger and he was a pretty competent player. Never saw any of this raging or anything, though I guess that’s because we would both just yolo ahead while everyone else lagged behind trying to perform skips etc.

But yes, judging from the posts I’ve seen in the thread, it sounds like he just vents anger at pug groups and then gets kicked by them, rather than “I didn’t do anything then got kicked”.

Because yes, sure, player X might be doing stupid thing Y, but regardless of how skilled or unskilled your pug group is, you’re bound simply by societal standards to show them all at least a modest level of courtesy. You can be a complete god at the game, but if you’re going to be a kitten then they have every right to boot you. When I used to pug arah paths, I wouldn’t bother getting angry at my group, I wouldn’t try to blow my own trumpet and rant about how I’m awesome at XYZ, because actions speak louder than words – if the party is dead on the floor and I solo a boss, then I can solo it and quietly move on. If they want to say anything about that, then well that’s their choice. This also means of course if I goof up and die, then well I don’t really look stupid since I wasn’t ranting at everyone beforehand for being bad.

Anyway, I’m probably starting to slide away from the point I was trying to make. the point is – I’ve never had any problem with the guy personally, but it sounds like he’s just playing the victim here – conveniently ignoring or downplaying the fact that he most likely ****-talks pugs in his groups when they make the slightest error.

The combat, and getting arah recordings done. <5 lupicus, alphard w/box intact, ooze, wraithlord, balthazar and lyssa solos still on my to-do list in addition to a belka that doesn’t suck (<2 min). The dungeon forum is just a toxic hellhole full of people whining about ‘casuals’ and ‘pugs’ rather than trying to just get over it and realise not everyone is going to play on their level.

Will Anet ever make Non-DPS role important?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

maha.7902

Exactly this.

1. People complain support and control don’t matter
2. People tell them support and control do matter
3. People refuse to believe it because apparently they don’t actually want support and control at all and just want to complain rather than ask how you can support and control and then bring that to their groups

It’s like people enjoy complaining or something.

Please take distance out of formula for boons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I agree something has to be done. Anet has made longbow skills most effective at the 1000-1500 range, and yet the boons that help the group have a shorter range. Spotter is only 600, spirits are only 1000. Which means its impossible for Rangers to maximize their effectiveness in a group, even if they had better pet control/higher dps, because they have to chose between their most effective dps and sharing their boons (speaking entirely of ranged, of course, this isn’t an issue in melee).

If this is for dungeons and a ranger wants to be ‘maximizing their effectiveness in groups’ they should not be using a bow regardless.

Sw/wh or Sw/Axe and Gs are what should be used for ‘most effective dps’. In which case they would be, as you say, in melee range so it wouldn’t be a big deal.

I have no idea what you’re talking about, threads like this rarely happen at all.

so now everyone visits metabattle and get ready op builds , people ended up playing exactly the same traits and skills , for example 95% of guardians are medi guards.
is arenanet thinking of countering this issue in any way so we could have more build diversity?
i really hope new expansion fixes a part of this

you hope the new expansion fixes humankind’s ability to spread information between each other? in this case, builds?

All comes down to bad dungeon design and poor balancing. How bad are the dungeons is this game? Anet sacked their lead developer and dissolved their dungeon team after their AC revamp, sounds like we got our answer. Is there any hope for new dungeons in the future? Nope maybe they will raise fractal cap, but that would require zero effect.
How bad is the games skill balanced. The highest damage in game is FGS 4, which requires you to change your ingame options and not target your target. Sounds like a exploit to me. In a better game GW1, it would have been fixed once it became public (just like Sand Shards in gw1), but because it doesn’t effect pvp (that much) , it is ignored, and readily talked about.

The dungeons are fine. It’s just they’ve been around for two years which makes them stale and easy.
