I really would prefer to have toughness and vitality play a role in our active defenses though, and to have healing scale up a bit more. I feel it would add avenues of growth for further encounter design in the game’s future, and promote the likes of Soldier and Nomad gear from ‘safety net’ and ‘useless’ respectively (in popular perception) to ‘path of mastery’.

And just why exactly should gear stats that let you afk eat hits be the optimal gear for anything?

Is soaking hits more skillful or more interesting or something? Like idk, I feel if you go full glass you should be rewarded accordingly, which this game does, or like what every MMO does where you run the very bare minimum of tanks and healers necessary. A really basic example is that the first dungeon in ArcheAge is something you can clear with three DPS but sure, you can use a tank + 2 DPS or whatever. But if you can handle it, 3 DPS is cool.

Well you see, guardians are “in a good place” so let’s just give them tooltip changes and the occasional buff every now and then, but warriors having average DPS is apparently too much and needs to be hit with a sledgehammer.

We want to promote build diversity, so rather than do anything to affect the longbow, hammer or the respective traits most popularly used with them, lets add a 5% nerf to the damage of hundred blades, whirlwind, making arcing slice still suck and let’s just nerf signet of rage for gits and shiggles and buff rampage so that still nobody uses it.

ANET LOGIC AT ITS FINEST.

Oh, and absolutely none of this is PvE balancing but you PvE players are just going to have to suck up and take the changes we do affecting like 2 people who play e$ports because they’re more important than balancing classes around WvW or PvE which are played by more people.

This “tournament” is a joke, that’s why the teams just left. DnT organised, this crap to be more famous, because nobody cares about thier and the community records. You dont need skill to stand in the corner and use FGS or switch skills while running in stealth. The “competition”, or anything you call it, will be the random factor. I think the organizers of this tournament and the “speed clear” community, just wants more fame.

Dont blame the teams left, they just lost the fun factor, because there wont be any.

This tournament is just for this “speed clear” crew, boring kitten will flow from the streams!

But this is my opinion, have fun…

Will Anet ever make Non-DPS role important?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ANet provides the tools. The community provides the demand.

This is where you are wrong…

ANet provides the tools. The environment provides the demand. The community responds…

The ball for a more diverse/complex game is on a ANet side. One build to rule them all is what makes this game flawed and basic in my book.

Is it really the environment that you mean or rather artificial restrictions though? I mean if the environment inflicts conditions doesnt that create the need for condition removal? if the environment inflicts damage doesnt that create the need for healing / crowd control?

The fact that a full zerk player can be as supportive as a full “insert whatever support gear you have in mind” proves the support role flawed and it drags the game design along with it. Dungeon design and combat design is pretty shallow and basic. This is the easiest MMORPG out there (and a medium to hardcore ARCADE depending on how much you solo).

As long as a full team of zerks can endure conditions and bypass those difficulties then the environment is not demanding a support role like you propose so I stand correct.

Environment demands nothing that is why it leaves room for full zerk teams to exceed.

The environment demands, in GW2 it demands nothing, so the community respond with the most devastating gear cause defense is not necessary/demanded.

It doesn’t prove the support role is flawed at all, it just proves ANet right in the fact they wanted players to be able to support, control and DPS.

I wish these people wanting their zero DPS cleric builds to be good would realise they’re playing the wrong game and the unholy trinity is that way.

I have yet to figure out how having many different “viable” builds translates into fun.

because scrolling over my gear and reading “valkyrie” makes me feel giddy inside

In PvE (solo and group play), warriors can have pure damage or condi or support (ps/ea). For ele, it’s either 6 in Air or 6 in Fire. Diversity is very limited.

strange, pretty sure d/f, staff and sc/d + lh builds were all viable

and to be honest, the “diversity” of warrior builds which force me to carry two sets of gear isn’t that interesting to me, if anything it’s annoying and i’d kill for a template option.

People are against instanced raids because it means they actually have to work together with people, not leech and actually do their part. They just want to do their thing and not give a **** about anyone else, and therefore because of this, nobody deserves instanced raids because how dare others expect me to pull my weight.

And that is the perfect example of the reason why i don’t want raids in this game. Because of the attitute they bring with them.

But the thought of someone desiring a part of the game specifically to exclude other players? No. Thank. You.

Exactly this. I don’t want mechanics that intentionally separate the players, but even more i don’t want the people that think such mechanics are a good idea. I started playing gw2 specifically to avoid those things.

Here’s wondering what were to happen if they were to replace word Raids with Elite Missions.

People will be much less opposed, simply because “elite mission” sounds more guild wars and less WoW than “Raids”.

Packaging and communications are important. Especially on that matter.

Agreed. Perception is part of the problem here (yes, on both sides). Additionally, avoiding the term “raid” will mean far less people will get mentally locked into preconceptions taken from WoW raiding design.

I have read a lot of threads here about people not liking the idea of:

1. Joining guilds like TTS/Att for open world events
2. Getting on to a voice communication program to be aware of what to do
3. The whole idea that you have to be with a guild full stop to do these events

These people quite simply do not want to make any sort of effort while doing this content. The one valid excuse I have seen across all my months here is one person recently who said that having GW2 and TS on at the same time throws their frame rate in to the bin.

Every other person I’ve come across is just too antisocial to want to work together and wanted to just cobble together weak excuses for their stance when it’s quite simply “I don’t really like having to interact with others”. Which is fine. But why should these people hold back the rest of us who want new, fun group content which isn’t 500-man 111111111111111 zergs? Why is “but thurrrrr elithurrssssttssssss” such a widely accepted excuse? It’s literally a GW2 boogeyman at this point, the imaginary elitists making sure you all go to bed at the right time or they’ll pounce and scream for gear checks in your dungeon groups.

I’m mostly just playing Dragon Age and going to get in to playing MTG again, as annoyed as DA2 made me, from what Bioware did since then in the DA franchise (from DA2 DLC to what is being shown in Inquisition) they actually know how to listen to fans, ignore the stupid criticisms (removing walking from ME2 > ME3 ruins my immersion… wtf) and be progressive enough in the gaming industry to draw larger audiences. So because in ‘every’ MMO (im guessing youve played them all to know this) you can solo bosses that means every MMO going forward has to be the same? How are games meant to evolve if you keep giving excuses based on what other games have done in the past?

When you’ve done everything worth doing and you want to solo encounters which 99.9% of players can’t do, why should you basically be locked out of doing so because the boss is just that stupidly strong that you need someone else?

You should be able, with adequate preparation to solo every single fight in the game. If this means using endurance regen food, energy sigils, weapons with blocks/reflects/evades, vigour, etc. then so be it – you shouldn’t just be flat out locked from being able to kill a boss (player requirement bosses like the legendary shoggroth just annoy the hell out of me).

The fact of the matter is, it’s an extremely minor elite who are going to be able to pull this off, it doesn’t reflect badly on a game at all if only a small crack group of hardcores can solo boss fights, it only reflects badly if any random idiot can, which luckily isn’t the case for a lot of bosses.

Did you ever solo The Marionette?

“You can solo bosses in every single MMO ever” =/= “You can solo every boss in every MMO ever”

I bought the shadow assassin costume on my male sylvari, and it looks great and I love it (though the main colour has an odd lustre but whatever).

However, I then though, why not try a thief, this costume would look kitten on a female human thief….so I made one, put the costume on….and WTF? First no proper head piece, its now a mask, secondly why is my ninja assassin showing more skin than most pole dancers, and WTF is going on with the comedy (stupid) bow comming off her kitten ?

Why Anet? Why?

Why take a good skin and make it like that on female characters? are you artists juvenile sexually charged teenagers that all women costumes need to flash as much skin as possible?

I was extremely disappointed in seeing this. Deleted the character.

edit: to avoid confusion, I dont get why the female version is SO different from the males….I dont object to revealing outfits, but for an assassins costume, lack of a hood and a massive kitten bow seam an odd choice.

Your ninja assassin is not showing more skin than pole dancers. Why do you feel the need to write such hyperbole when the game is full of modest outfits, this one included? It’s like people just can’t handle even the slightest bit of skin showing.

Open your eyes. Almost every dungeon boss can be stacked and burned down. They are just meat sacks with high health pools. It doesn’t matter if non-zerkers can kill them too. Zerker is and always will be the best way to clear that content unless Anet changes something.

Are you saying there shouldn’t be a “best” gear option?

Should we all wallow in mediocrity?

You guys need to take another look at my first post in this thread…

It’s not designed around berserker, berserker is just the most optimal. Dungeons are actually designed around people at-level in greens of whatever stat combination. Fractals are designed with exotics of any stat combination.

Serah Mahariel – Death and Taxes

Full Zerkers ONLY!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: maha.7902

maha.7902

I play like the rest, full zerk gear and I carry around PVT for certain occasions. I’m a big fan of others playing the way they want and I hope that they do. There is no push from me here that you seem to think there is. I never implied for them to remove zerkers, I just wish that there were optimal builds for different roles utilizing the diverse stat types we have in this game.

Roles are separate from gearing. In a decent dungeon group, you take classes X, Y and Z to perform functions A, B and C and these functions are achievable independent of gear. Therefore, if these roles are independent of gear then there is no need to gear a specific way to fulfill them and you can then focus your actual stat distribution on dealing damage since your support functions are already covered via weapon and utility skills and traits. What you wish is basically for GW2 not to be an action game – you can get away with playing as glass cannon support in this game because of how active the damage mitigation is, if performing support required gear D (which if we go by the past 10000000000000000000000 RPGs of precedence means stacking defensive and passive stats) to be optimal then you’re just making the game less active and with a lower skill ceiling – why should the DPS’ers have to be squishy and the supports just afk in the corner spamming heal on auto cast? (exaggeration but you get the point)

The diverse stat combinations in this game are used extensively in PvP and WvW, in any RPG or MMORPG, for PvE content you will always have players pushing as glassy as possible, whether that means dropping the number of healers and tanks in a dungeon/raid or having the healers/tanks serve more as off-[role] since there tend to be hybrid classes in other MMOs – so your tanks might actually stick on as much DPS gear as possible while still holding boss aggro.

It’s like the natural progression of video games, as people get better they push their boundaries. As dungeon runners got better, we went from stacking warriors to stacking eles, it’s just progression.

…logic? I haven’t said that it is something that must be mandated, only that the statement that i have corrected is always true only after that correction. Yes, it’s true that there will always be one geartype that is more efficient than the other, but that doesn’t mean that this geartype must be always the same for every part of the game. Except in GW2 it is.

For every part of one game mode.

Is what you meant to say.

So now that that argument was completely blown out of the water, let’s move on.

Go ahead. Just remember to add something that is usually omitted (and isn’t easy to see from this video). It also requires high skill. Put 5 average people in the same gear with the same skills and traits selected, and tell them not to dodge, and they will most likely wipe.

No, sitting in sentinel gear tanking bosses (which is literally what happened) does not take “high skill”. Let’s not pretend here. I’ll tell you what took high skill, and they told people this themselves – staying awake long enough to kill bosses was the most challenging part of the entire dungeon.

Maybe i won’t, but it doesn’t mean it will be any harder or more dangerous

Actually it’s nigh-on impossible. If you don’t dodge belka when she fires her pulsing orb, or sidestep it and you’re in glass gear you’re one-shotted. If you don’t dodge the abomination stomp and don’t dodge or sidestep the rock-throw, squishy classes are gibbed and heavy classes are knocked down and take heavy damage. If you don’t dodge lupicus kicks and swipes and AOE you’re anything from heavily wounded to one-shotted. If you don’t dodge or step out of alphard’s AOE you’re one-shotted.

When you’re in defensive gear, none of these one-shots occur.

If you’re in glass and don’t intend on dodging, surprise surprise, people die. I’ve pugged arah enough times to know that path 2 is just complete amateur hour and people make mistakes all over the place and get themselves destroyed when wearing glass.

So let’s conclude here:

Wearing full sentinels and afk tanking bosses does not “take skill”. Roles are independent of gearing and the game does not suddenly become more interesting if you have to stack boon duration while blasting fire fields as an ele, in fact if you had to pull a massive throttle on your own damage like that in order to stack might it would annoy the absolute bejesus out of a ton of people.

Stacking analyzed, and ideas for mob design

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: maha.7902

maha.7902

For example: If there is a mob that likes to attack at range, give this mob a flag where they will always try to be at least 600 units away from any player, and treat this as a hard line that mob will refuse to cross. That way, when they come upon enemies stacking in a corner, they will orbit at a distance to get in range, instead of just running up to the players.

Chasing a mob around in circles is not “interesting”, and if that’s “diverse mob AI” then I want my mob AI as boring as possible. That would turn dungeons in to even more of a chore. It would just mean removing a DPS utility and chaining immobilises.

Another idea: make a boss that has a directionally dependent damage reduction: all direct damage from the front is reduced by 90%, due to heavy armor or a big shield or whatever. Then, players will have to encircle the boss, so that only one player gets reduced damage while the other 4 get full damage.

Literally all that is is a damage throttle. Poor idea.

Another idea, give a boss an extremely dangerous and frequent melee cleave attack, but make it so he alternates targets after every use. That way, players will have to surround the boss, because otherwise his attacks will plow through nearly any defense.

Chain aegis/dodge, burst away. There are already bosses with powerful melee cleave attacks.

And now we’re back to square one. Once again, poor ideas offered to counter stacking and no reason besides aesthetics identified for stacking even being a problem.

The community has become really toxic about “stacking” and I wish ANet would put an end to it. The skill requirement for the majority of the game is out the window from it, and it doesn’t allow for a good experience for players who have no idea what’s going on. You’re throwing this word “elitist” around.

I don’t think you actually know what it means.

I know exactly what it means, regardless of whether I’m precisely referencing the official definition or using it more as slang. In this case, I’m talking about video game elitists – players who think they are better than other people (like better as a person) because their skill level is higher.

Essentially, any variation on players with an above-average skill level (real or perceived) looking down on people whose skill level (real or perceived) is average or below-average.

So maybe it’s best you review the definition, cause I’m not sure you know what it means.

Elitism is the exclusion of others from your group due to your belief in your own group’s superiority. What you’re referring to as elitists are players who are more skilled than your average zergling expressing their confusion at people being unable to complete and/or complaining about the LS instance(s), not ‘elitists’. So how about you stop throwing the word around when it doesn’t apply? It’s an overused buzz word by angry forum goers on the same level as words like ‘toxic’ – they have no meaning at this point, people just throw them around when somebody says something they disagree with, which is exactly what you just did.

Yeah, because the fgs nerf obviously made the game so much more entertaining, fun and made less people quit, they now need to do the same about ele’s aoes.

People quit because of ANet openly saying on a video that they’ll be doing **** all with dungeons for at least the next six months, it’s nothing to do with a fiery rush nerf making the game more/less interesting for people.

The way I see it, why stay if you’re unhappy and the part of a game you enjoy isn’t supported in any way besides minor bug fixes by the company? And that’s why I brought my play time down sharply because the carrot and stick approach with all of the moronic collections and other dumb **** that people collect for absolutely no reason doesn’t work on me since I don’t care about gaining any sort of currency in this game. The one thing which I would want, sinister gear, is gated behind doing braindead open world crap which I will never be able to motivate myself to do.

And that’s the second tournament, we held one a little while ago.

Well I actually find these story instances interesting. Some mobs hit like a train, the jumping mechanics are there but not too overbearing and there’s cool little mechanics like the gusts of wind pushing you around, boon stealing mobs (assassins with 15 might stacks off me gg) and kasmeer’s phantasmal defender is clearly pushing the zerkburger meta by letting us stay alive.

how did skill versatility even matter when the one cc skill you used was ice bow 5 and literally anything else was just a filler so some dude could pick up a bow and do it again

Except Robert Hrouda already said that it’s safer to use tanky gear but if you can handle it then it’s perfectly possible to use offensive gear. This suggests the defensive gear as training wheels explanation is the correct one.

I don’t see how they intended everything to be equal when everything has flat out different stats entirely. You don’t make a set with no defensive stats and full offense, and then one which has boon duration and healing power and then try to claim everything is equal, that’s insane.

10/10. Would read again.

skips lightheartedly back to DA:O, whistling a cheerful tune

I finished my dalish elf a little while ago and now I want to play my dwarf noble. I got too confident and died in the deep roads after being exiled (hurrrdurrr 4 mobs with overwhelm gg) though so I guess in-lore I never become a grey warden if I don’t continue the save :p

The LFG BETA

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Just a quick suggestion as a small event annoyed me earlier. There I was, making a LFM for Sorrows Embrace speedrun, asking for specific classes… the people then join with classes I didn’t ask for and proceed to kick me for wanting other classes played. I believe there should be a party leader system that dictates the group, allowing players to be kicked without asking others and also preventing them from being kicked so stupid stuff like that doesn’t happen. May I also suggest that you implement a mechanic that allows people to look for certain classes within the LFG?… that would help a lot and prevent the wrong classes joining and making trouble.

Seriously, whats the point in requiring something if other people are just going to ignore that and then kick you from your own lfg making you have to look again and set up the whole LFG system once more, it gets on my nerves.

I don’t think you know what a speed run is

And I don’t think you do either ;D.. since a speed run is just a generic term for a fast run. It’s not a set in stone phrase and depending on who says it, it means different.

World records are speed runs. You going in the lfg hoping you get players who aren’t terrible and then having a run which is then like 2-3x the time of the world record of that path is not a speed run.

Does the game still relly to much on zerkers?

I’m in agreement with others that simply nerfing berserker gear is not the answer. I don’t agree that the change to ferocity ‘did nothing’ or is ‘useless’ though. It was simply the first step in a long list of things that needed to be done in order to balance the various available roles to make support and cc more desirable.

I think we’re starting to see some of the further changes, although I don’t think their implementations are perfect. The amount of things no longer reflect able might require a bit of tweaking, for example.

support is already extremely desirable. CC has niche uses but when used, it can be used very effectively. what is the problem here?

Things You Hate Seeing Other Mesmer Do?

in Mesmer

Hrm…

- I hate when Mesmers approach class changes through a singular, “tunnel-visioned” lens (usually PvP or WvW), and they forget there is a third mode of play (PvE). cough Scepter cough

- I hate when certain Mesmers achieve the rank of arrogance that some display on these forums daily. You may call them “experts.” The real word is “arrogant” or “pompous.”

- I hate when Mesmers act like know-it-alls.

- I hate when Mesmers contradict themselves.

- I hate how much animosity there is between PvP/WvW Mesmers and PvE Mesmers.

- I hate when Mesmers cry for Mesmer nerfs because they want to preempt the other classes crying for Mesmer nerfs.

- I hate when Mesmers are scared of being damage dealers. Any buff that increases damage, they immediately call OP, and say ArenaNet needs to nerf it.

- I hate how PvP/WvW Mesmers look condescendingly on PvE Mesmers. Just because you enjoy one game mode over the other does not make you better than those who enjoy the opposite mode.

- I hate arrogant Mesmers.

The reason there’s so much animosity is because PvP is full of autistic tryhards who think their game mode is the only challenging game mode when they would probably eat the floor trying to do challenging PvE content, or run stupid PvP builds and pewpew with a GS from 5,000 range.

And then you get the PvE autistics who think most of the dungeons actually take skill to do when you can just roll your face over keys and everything dies (gj ferocity, you made AC brain-afk).

And then you get the WvW speds who think PvE is just braindead zerging, and then stick them in Arah and they’d sit there dead the entire dungeon.

There’s bad people on all sides, but the smug PvPers and WvWers really drive me up the wall, because monkey rolling around trying to dodge deadly skills with zero or barely any choreograph is clearly skill, and hoping to get lucky and not get eaten alive by something stupid which has absolutely jack all for tells.
