"Victory or Death" Bug [merged]

For those who didn’t see it:

An update for those near the end of their Personal Story: The Victory or Death fix is undergoing testing currently. I don’t have a release date to share at this time, but I do want to let you know that things are in progress. Thanks for your patience.

And seriously, I can understand the frustration but please don’t overreact and lessen the drama, that instance isn’t the only thing in game. There are a lot of other content in the game that you can do while wait for the fix. If none of the other contents fit your likes, well then there is life out there too :P Just be patient, a fix was done and it’s in testing. Better a long and properly tested fix than a quick “amendment” that can bring up more issues.

I believe that’s a bug somehow tied to map chat restriction. For months (or years) emote has kind of worked like map chat, your emotes would be viewable for anyone in the map even far from you. Possibly that’s the case so since map chat is restricted it could have been unintentionally restricted too. (If so, yay, finally a reason to fix that kitten wide range emote :P)

Well I’m not at all surprised that the first and only reply is someone trying to be clever by talking to me like I’m an idiot.

On the contrary, I was trying to be helpful to someone who had provided very little information on what was going on or what they had tried to do to troubleshoot.

I’m sorry that my reply was upsetting to you.

Yup, they did not try to make you look dumb, idiot or something, it was just a very general and basic troubleshooting for when no much info is available or is vague. Also, what was suggested can happen to everyone, anyone can overlook stuff and later get the “oh how couldn’t I see it” moment. In other hand, your response was somewhat rude and would chase away anyone willing to help. Don’t take me bad, just clarifying stuff. But well, let’s let it be for now. Glad you got it solved.

There are many times in school when the class had to review stuff I already knew. It happened in most classes in fact. And then we got on to new stuff. I’m not even sure what you’re trying to say here.

Oh I see. It’s a couple of days at the beginning of the term. Sorry not seeing the issue, sorry you are.

No, I don’t mean just having a review, neither being a couple of days at the beginning of the term. I mean being treated like new one every time, all time, being put on the beginning again, ignoring completely your background or where you are coming from. It’s more than a simple review to help everyone to catch up and be on the same stuff. And not the beginning of the term, but beginning of the whole learning lifetime. As other said, if you really read it all you would get it when I mentioned middle school and kindergarten, not a few days away from each other huh.

Anyway, let’s stop derailing and pointing fingers to each one’s opinion.

Technical limitations? In this case then the item should never have been implemented at all until a better solution is found. If it was merely a fixable bug then makes sense having it available, but if it has “technical limitations” is should never go live. Theoretically it can even sound like cheap excuse saying it won’t be fixed because of that.

Simply solution for now: remove the item and refund anyone who has it. It’s simply a dumb move having a broken item available as it would simply generate more and more complaints. It would save support and devs’ time (and ears :P) by simply not having such broken item until those “technical limitations” are overcome.

Open world maps are independent of Personal/Living Story instances. As long you have any ability required you are able to reach everything. In this case, the ability required is a Mastery then you just need to have it unlocked to be able to reach that area. If you could unlock that mastery without doing Story, then you could reach that area without even doing Story in any character.

I believe if you had to do Story or any other content in order to reach an area, they wouldn’t have put a map completion item behind it, that would be blocking progress.

Fact is, in open world maps, any area is reachable to any character, as long they have any ability required (mastery, level, etc).

The bottom line is the leveling speed is greatly increased. ANYONE who hits events as they go are going to level faster though…even new players. That’s how you level in an hour.

The thing is: What’s the point about fast leveling? What’s the big deal? Aren’t games about having fun? Leveling should be a consequence of having fun in it and not a chore that should be done as fast as one can instead. In my early days in GW2 I didn’t care much about leveling fast, instead I tried to have fun while working up my way toward high levels and enjoying each experience (real experience, no game XP :P) I got and new things I learned during that process.

if a new player (to gw2) is experienced in MMO’s then this so called ‘new player experience’ isn’t even needed. Anyone experienced in MMO’s will have a basic knowledge of most of the working systems with a few exceptions (like dodging). By that point, it turns into a tired, extended tutorial in explaining things that should’ve taken about an hour in an optional tutorial instance, like most other games.

And for players new to GW2 but not new to MMOs this NPE is even insulting, it treats the players like a 5 years child as if they wouldn’t even know how to read or seek for helping, that’s too much hand-holding. Also, a decent tutorial or helping system for newcomers should be something reasonably short and optional, not a forced process that takes the whole length of leveling process instead.

If you want a better deal, buy the Ultimate edition for 50$ more that comes with some free stuff, a character slot, and… 50$ worth of gems.

Just wanted to point out a thing: if you have to pay more just to have some more “free” stuff, then they aren’t really “free” as you are paying an additional in order to have them. Does it make sense? Unless the “additional” is for something else, like gems, but even so… :P

The NPE can be largely mitigated with the use of Experience Scrolls that boost your character to lv20. Unfortunately these are only given out sparsely. Birthday rewards, so when a character has existed for a year, and 5K achievement chests (5K, 10K, 15K, etc).

So not a good solution for people who picked up the game post-NPE as you’ll likely only have 1 or 2 of these.
But if you do you skip straight to lv20. From this starting point you get all utility skills and basic functionality (downed state, etc) unlocked. And your first trait is only 10 levels away, and your first Elite 11 levels.
That still leaves objectionable faults in the NPE, but the brunt of it is mitigated for the veteran players.

Yup, that’s an option but it shouldn’t be needed before all. That’s a workaround and workarounds don’t fix stuff. It seems like veteran players weren’t taken into account or were ignored/left aside when this NPE was planned, then in order to workaround the situation those Writs of Experience and others stuff began to be given to players.

More to the point, the NPE fixed things which used to be problems and yes, created other problems. The reason I say it used to be problems is because people did come to the forums and ask certain questions repeatedly. Many thought they were doing something wrong, because they were underleveled for the next story quest, and didn’t know that you weren’t supposed to run them in a row.

There are always going to be problems. Always.

Ok so, could you tell what type of issues it fixed? In my personal experience I had no major issues and when I had some minor one I could find help easily (that former Help panel was somewhat helpful). Regarding the story quest, in my case I never thought I was doing something wrong for being underleveled, contrariwise I would see it as “it wasn’t the time for it yet”.

Of course there always will be problems, but if like, let’s say, fixing 3 issues would bring up 7, it wouldn’t worth the trade off huh.

I’m pretty sure it came from the number of people during their free trial weekends that played till level 10 or 20 and just walked away.

Well, that doesn’t mean much. Maybe some people played during trial and never returned due not being able to purchase the game. I know a few ones that did so and even myself, I played a trial once and only bought the game months later.

~snip~
Maybe people need to stop being so self-centered and realize not everyone is as intelligent as they are and some people DO need more help and more time to get used to things.
~snip~

Oh I perfectly understand that some people DO need more help but other people DON’T so why force them to deal with this stupidity? Let me turn this whole NPE bullkitten off and I’ll have absolutely no problem at all with it beeing in game.

Exactly. Also neither everyone is so dumb. Simplifying things to help those who don’t understand or take more time to learn is always nice, I’m all for that. But forcing it down everyone’s throat, even for those who don’t need it, yes, is an issue and can feel insulting. How would you feel when at high school, after years and years of study and some experience acquired, your teacher would take a whole class time to teach you how to do basic calculations like 1+1? Wouldn’t it be annoying and maybe insulting for not taking in account people’s previous knowledge? Wouldn’t it be easier to take those with difficulties to a separate class for a more individualized assistance, letting them take their time to learn, while letting vet doing their thing as they already know? Doesn’t it all make any sense?

And yes, it’s insulting to be treated like “oh do you want to interact with this skill point? Sorry, we think you are not ready for this yet. We think you are not able to fight it or commune with it yet. Come back when we think you are more experienced.” It’s possible even those with some learning difficulty could feel annoyed by this. (or like in my own experience once in a lvl 80 at a starter map: “oh do you want to buy traits? Sorry, we think you aren’t experienced enough for it. Come back when we think you are more experienced.”)

Technically speaking I think I can see what went wrong and caused this mess. There are a few evidences of elements related to the expansion being introduced in this patch and I think something was misplaced somewhere. All game files are packed in a single file (GW2.dat) and then, theoretically, if one of those files is misplaced or something it can affect several other files, even ones not related between them. Possibly that may be the reason for having bugs spread everywhere and on the most unexpected places. Someone missed the trainee slipping in it some odd file :P

Yes, thanks to the “working” search function :P

Anyway, there is another thread about a bug where people are unable to move after it starts: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Southsun-Survival-Mini-Game-Bug

However, your pict seems to show it “after” the turn ended, in this case yes you are still able to move around after the turn has ended.

About moving before start, yes I have heard that people are able to do so but then they get stuck forever after it starts.

Usually players underground or fast teleporting abnormal distances are usually people exploiting. In these cases you better report them via in-game tool. Also, if you see or know some type of exploit you can report it via email to exploits@arena.net.

Just to remind, reporting exploits in forums isn’t allowed and it’s discouraged. Also to remind, that email is for reporting the ways an exploit can be done, to report players for any illegal behavior you have to use the in-game tool.

Crafting Panel not visible anymore

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: shadow.6174

shadow.6174

The most obvious cause would be opening it related to a discipline you haven’t activated (I believe that’s not the case, but it’s most obvious and can go unnoticed). Another possibility is you have it filtered in a way that it shows no results. The filters and search persist during the session (and are shared between all crafting stations you may use and the Hero panel) and get reseted when logging off.

Anyway, good you got it working again.

Edit: Curiously it just happened to me, but it turned out I had “Gain Experience” checked in filters and since that discipline was maxed I had no recipes fitting with that filter.

[sip]

I can’t agree even more, + 10 to them.

Essentially, I liked the old system. The new NPE has done little to correct the lack information contained in the old one. Heck, the information needed could be better more thoroughly delivered by a mandatory NPC dialogue (akin to talking to the scout like after the first PS instance) or by more mails from “Your Herald” giving information than by what the NPE does.

After seeing a video where a player goes from lvl 1 to 80 using scrolls to test the NPE I pondered about a thing: the new system just gives out information about features using a popup and sometimes an arrow too, but that arrow is even useless at times (like when talking about Vistas, it just point out the minimap, even when there’s not any Vista icon in it). So the thing is: what’s the difference between giving out these poupups as it is now and a panel with all needed info and occasional popups pointing you to it as it was before? None, both lack stuff (although I thought the old better and intuitive).

-Do not level-gate POIs, Vistas, and Skill Points. The current level gate leads to backtracking for new players (which I believe GW2 wanted to eliminate) and denies new players sources of experience early on.

This was what I meant when I said about backtracking previously. Although the citation I used was talking about quests (Renown Hearts as we know them) it applies to these things too, seeking vistas or skill points feels like a quest too. And yeah, I believe Anet wanted to get rid of the concept of backtracking when developing the events and hearts, then why bringing that feeling back when going after world completion…

Well, seriously… does anyone think that after seeing threads like https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Missing-Map-Completion-Tracker/ or https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Missing-Zone-completion-box (that has been frequent since NPE came out) the NPE really feels more user friendly and easier than the game was before? Once again, c’mon, streamlining stuff doesn’t mean locking or hiding info from people… Also, almost 3 months has passed, where’s the promised changes? I hope they will be really changes and not just amendments in an attempt to make things get “some sense” instead. Stop dumbing down stuff. In fact, I’m really afraid about what’s coming with those changes on dailies and such… Not holding my breath…

Just a suggestion for when reporting things like that: be careful when posting crash report details as it can have sensitive info about your system (look your IP [although a local one] and machine name in it). At first it seems to be no big deal but it can be used for bad purposes.

Also, based from the title I suppose it was solved. It would be nice to post here too how it was solved or whatever you did so it gone. That way if someone else see this thread and also is having similar issues they would be able to have hints or even a solution about their issue too.

About fixes to Personal Story let me bring up a request again: when “fixing” it, please DON’T make amendments or emendations in order to make it appear as if it makes some sense, revert it to the original storytelling. The original writer put then that way for some reason and it’s stupid to mess with its order. If there are boring parts people can just do stuff ignoring dialogs and such. Also, what may be boring to one may not be boring to others. Again, not everyone is equal.

I guess I’m just tired of hand holding in MMOs. Just make a Tutorial that gives you an idea of what is about to occur, one I can skip on alts, and then let us loose to discover it all. Right now I feel forced to unlock things so I can then play.

/shrug

Old way didn’t hold the hand. I much prefer it to the NPE.

I did, but not so much as now. There was a very helpful Help panel and several popup hints every and then, that would show up just when certain new aspects showed up (like getting a mail or reaching a waypoint for first time).

Some hand-holding is always nice, mainly for those who needs it, but the issue here is everyone is forced to have too much hand-holding, even those who don’t need it.
