Small Guilds, stop complaining about GHls

It’s so nice to see ppl attitudes like “not my problem, I don’t care, stop whining”. Yes, this is at the OP. If Guild Halls was meant only to big guild, wth then was all guild features moved to there? Why locking out small guild from several guild benefits just because they are small? That sounds unfair and stupid if it’s the case.

Also, remember that big guilds were once small. Guilds aren’t only about big groups with 100 or more people, but 20 or less people can be a guild too. After all, the game is about guilds too huh? Making stuff exclusive to certain groups isn’t community friendly, that’s what this game is about too.

Therefore, if you are bothered about what people expect from the game, why don’t you go seek something else too instead complaining about how others feel? See and understand all sides of a situation before complaining.

That’s like selling a new roof for a car, for the price of a new car, but with a free car included (unless you already have a car, but its still the same price), and you don’t get the wheels. See how this comes across Anet?

Loved the comparison! <3

FPS DROP after Patch

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: shadow.6174

shadow.6174

I’m not going re-type the same FPS drop info everyone else has already stated.

However I want to chime in with the following. Im running a dual screen setup adn often run Firefox with gazzillion tabs open and stream video on the side screen. Before the patches I was doing this with out a glitch and a steady FPS. Now if I run a youtube clip on the side the FPS will take major dive. Closin FF will affect FPS in big (positive) way. This is not a performance issue on my rig and only started happening afte the latest set of patches.

Makes me wonder why running a web browser now would cause these FPS issues?

I actually just tested this and closing down FF with 5 tabs open (no video content) caused a 30 FPS rise.

Opening a site like Dulfy with Flash content (ads, banners etc) will cause a immediate 25-30 FPS drop. (Oh btw, running game in windowed mode)

Just feels like a darn too good of a accident to not be flash related. (wasn’t there a flash update just last week?) Sharing issues or crossing wires with anything you guys might be using?

They don’t use Flash in the game. Actually no one uses flash anymore. Unsecure and outdated.

Not totally true, several softwares and websites still use Flash. Anyway, even though the game doesn’t use Flash, any other application using it opened along with the game can cause FPS drop. I also have noted Firefox eating up some RAM and it surely affects FPS too, then I have always not ran both at the same time. I don’t mean that this is the issue everyone else is having, but it’s sure and truly that other softwares, either they have Flash or not, can yes affect game’s FPS.

If a site still uses Flash, their web designer is horrible. No need for flash anymore.

Then you are misinformed and this way you offend several web designers out there (for your information, even some of the ads used by Google and others are Flash based). There still a plenty of things that cannot be done without Flash, HTML 5 hasn’t evolved that far to completely trash out Flash. Anyway, I won’t go further on this to not derail this thread.

What are ads?

I mean advertisement. Several banners and advertisements on several websites out there still uses Flash (just confirmed, even dulfy.net has flash based ad banners). But well, that’s a different discussion then let’s not derail the thread.

Today I was running around Queensdale and every few minutes had to explain to a low level player why they couldn’t see Vistas and/or Skill Points on their map. They seemed to think it was a bug instead of by design and got frustrated when they were unable to obtain a Skill Point until a later level.
[sip]
The Problem: Too much of the game’s content is locked out to new players.
[sip]
Much of what is unlocked in the first 15 levels or so feels arbitrary and unnecessary.

I have been saying that for months now. About map completion and stuff, it can be easily noticed by the amount of threads in this forum about that:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/When-I-press-M-cant-see-thta-board-on-left

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/SOLVED-All-I-wanna-do-is-play
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Skill-challenges-unable-to-activate
(I could go on and on…)

Personally, when I log into a new game for the first time, I want to see a bunch of things that I will have the opportunity to learn about. I spend the first 10 minutes or so of a new game looking through the menus at skill trees and looking at the map to see what sorts of things there are to do. Being unable to use my skills and unable to see things on the map would be an overall frustrating experience that I would have to wade through to get to more interesting content.

Cannot agree more and I’m used to do the same.

I just want my natural weapon skill unlocking again. That change alone was heartbreaking.

Highlight is mine, isn’t it more clear about how it was before?

Oh another point I forgot to say… weapon skills unlocking. With the previous system it felt more rewarding and it felt like my char was really “learning” to wield and manipulate an weapon. The progress was smooth and gave some time to really “learn” each skill.

I had recently started a new char a few weeks before the path. I could unlock all my skill set in a matter of 5 mins, even before I’d reach my next level! It also helped me to lvl up with the experience gained from it. Every time a skill unlocked I would hover it and see what it’s meant to do, then I would go and use it on first mob I found and see how it worked. I was like “shinny, this skill seems cool.. what’s next..” and then went to unlock the next.

With the new system characters aren’t “learning” skills anymore, they are gaining the right to use them. What if I have already learned enough what #3 skill does? am I forced to stay bored with my actual skill set until I’m 3 levels higher? Taking it to a specific case: are mesmers forced to be denied from having an easy source of swiftness (Temporal Curtain) until they are lvl 7? Not fun for one of the slowest class in this game.

Same applies with stats and traits, before the progression was smother and it really felt your char was getting progressively stronger. Now they are given the right to become stronger. Before it was like your char was evolving and becoming stronger, now it feels like your char takes an injection of anabolic and get stronger all suddenly after a few levels.

All these “small” things takes away part of the immersion and makes it feel like a “follow the orders” game than a RPG, where you tell a story and feel like living a story. It stops being an immersive game and becomes a computer tutorial where you learn about hitting keys (Stanley? You there? :P).

Anyway, I tried to give my feedback with constructive reasons instead just complaining. I tend to use comparisons to make my point across, hehe, and I hope it worked.

I have a friend I have been trying to drag to GW2 for a while and I had mentioned to them about a expansion coming when it was first announced. Recently I went to tell them that a pre-purchase was announced. When I simply mentioned that core game was costing around $40 weeks ago and expansion is going to cost $50, and that new players are going to get the core game for free plus the expansion, while current players are going to get only the expansion for that price, their immediate reaction was like “Wth? That sux for vets”. And I even hadn’t gone into details yet like no character slot included for that price and that not much had been revealed about it so far.

I can understand that some players are big fans of the game, and have full confidence in Anet as a company. What I do not get, is that some players proudly announce how they’ve forked over $50 or more for a product that isn’t finished, has an unknown release date, and unknown contents (although what we know of the contents does not justify its price tag).

What you are basically saying is “Money has very little value to me”. And while I understand that some players know they will get the expansion eventually anyway, I don’t think that supporting this business practice is a good thing. You are basically part of the problem by supporting this pre-purchase nonsense, which is bad for us as consumers.

Agreed.

Just to add. Yes I see it’s a good price for new players and sounds fair in that case. But for us, veteran players, it sounds very disappointing and looks like what we paid for the core game was just trashed. Really VERY VERY VERY disappointed. -_-

That’s really weird, I have done story with a friend, I did their and they did mine and it never go mixed up.

If you play co-op and choose to accept story progress at the end of the story step, it will put you on the same storyline as the other player, even if it doesn’t match your own.

Sounds like a bug to me and, honestly, I don’t see any reason for this behavior. It doesn’t make sense to be put in the same story line as someone else. It just make things confused and odd. If the objective is to inform you about the progression of the people you helped, it’s already done by the HUD when you enter someone’s else instance. No use to have theirs mixed with yours.

Small Guilds, stop complaining about GHls

how about you stop posting pointless threads that will achieve absolutely nothing useful.

The hypocrisy, it is real. The small guilds crying on the forums are the vocal minority. Just like everything else you see on the forums. People that are happy with how things are running are not going to say so on the forums. That is why every post on the forum is someone crying about something. I agree with OP about GH. People that CHOOSE not to be in a large guild need to accept that they won’t have the same access as those who do.

Yes, it can be true that people are complaining and stuff. Also it’s true that small guilds won’t have the same things as easily as big guilds will, but that doesn’t mean that Guild Halls were meant to big guild only.

People can choose to not be in big guilds for countless reasons, but that should not punish them for doing so and then forcing them to be in big guilds if they want certain benefits that was meant to ANY guild of ANY size. ALL guilds can have access to the SAME things, the only difference is big guilds will get them easier and faster.

DirectX 11/12 request [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

“We want dx12!” – That’s a “we minus me”.

Make it two.

Make it three. DX12 is restricted to Win 10 as far as I know (sorry if this is wrong, it was the last I heard about it) and no, thanks, I don’t want Win 10 for now.

Also, yeah having the most up-to-date and shinny stuff always seems to be great, but have any of you defending GW2 upgraded to DX12 considered everything involved? Are any of you a programmer or game developer? As others stated here such “upgrade” would require a lot of effort and rewriting the game engine from ground up, in this case it would be a lot easier to come with a GW3 then rewriting a whole 3 year worth of content game. Have you even pondered how much work is it?

Just a thing: the newest isn’t always the best.

How would it solve the 32bits limitation issue? What about those with still 2 cores processor (yes they still exist)? Would it make any difference for them?

It’s easy to demand stuff without thinking on the whole stuff involved and what or who is affected. Like “I want it, if others will have trouble it’s their business, I don’t care”. I want chocolate too, I don’t care about DX12 :P

TP UI very slow

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: shadow.6174

shadow.6174

Hmm, that sounds like something more than TP. Hero panel shouldn’t take more than a 5 to 10 secs to open.

Actually, all files needed by the game lies in a single file: GW2.dat. Possibly that file is very fragmented and it could cause slowdowns when loading the UI, I have seen it heppening before. I haven’t had issues with it then I don’t think it’s an issue with the game. And yes, the UI graphics are loaded after you use one of them for the first time.

Maybe try to repair your game files as well defragment that file, it could help. In case you don’t know how to repair, see the instructions here: https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/28148006-Repairing-the-Game-Client.

In case of TP, maybe clearing its cache could help. TP cache lies in your Temp folder (if in Windows type %temp% in the Windows search box) in a folder called like "gw2cache-{bunch-of-numbers-here}". Just delete that folder while not in game and restart the game. I hope it helps.

shadow.6174

Well, the most of my feedback I could be giving here already was mentioned by others, no much to add actually. However I wanted to make some points…

By chance did the one behind these changes think that new players couldn’t be that new for MMOs too? Did they think that this game’s meant to be played by low QI ppl? No offense intended but with some changes it sounds like they think the players are 5 years old who just must to follow what’s said. Was this new system meant for ppl with a brain of a potato? (No offense intended). C’mon, this game was already by far simpler than several MMOs out there.

What’s the difficult about dealing with bundles? It was what gave me immersion in the game, like “shinny, I can pick up stuff and use them”. What about being transformed in other creatures? One of the things that good me hooked in the game was becoming a sylvari hoard at my very first hearts. I didn’t even wanted that heart to finish… The tooltips in game was very enough to tell what to do with bundles.. did you pick up a bundle and your skills gone? No panic, hover your skills and learn what they do, you’ll find one saying “Drop bundle”. It’s hard? “Drop bundle”? Simple that?

As others have said, it’s not about fun anymore, it’s like a job: do what we say and you’ll get a reward. The fun and immersion in this game is about making choices and taking decisions, it’s been taken away from new players. Also, it’s not a leveling experience anymore, now it’s a huge boring tutorial. Why keep teaching ppl until they reach 80? I learned about WB when I was around lvl 20 (new system teaches about it at lvl 76)! At level 5 I already knew about map completion! (and this kept me in this game too, it was nice to know I could do hearts at a specific place instead spread around map and at anytime I wanted or any level (if I did it later) as they don’t vanish when I’m highter lvl).

Taking away features isn’t the proper way to teach things. To teach things one must show and tell about things. Do parents take away any furniture like chairs, drawers, etc from a baby’s room just bc the baby isn’t ready to use them? NO. Well, one could say “the baby isn’t supposed to use them anyhow” but the adults will. Also the baby’ll get used to that stuff and it’ll be already known to them when the proper moment arrives. What does this have to do? That’s how I feel about removing things from starter areas and low level players. How a new player’ll know what a renown heart’s meant for if they can’t even “feel” what world completion’s about?

Why removing merchants, TP and gather nodes from starter areas? Ohh it’s so difficult for a new player to approach a gather node and hit F? Ok, they couldn’t have the proper tools but then… hey, the game is telling me I need a tool equipped, where’s the logical place to find such items? Merchants! Then go to the nearest merchant and there it is. No tools with that merchant? Let’s seek another, like in RL, if you don’t find a thing at a place you seek at another.

I work with development of interactive computer courses and I’m aware what level new ppl could be, but hiding and locking stuff isn’t the proper way to teach. Hint! Tooltips! Instanced tutorials! Why denying things from a whole player base just to teach some newcomers? By using hints or an instanced tutorial one could have a plenty of tools to teach newcomers without taking away any fun from everyone else. The game had a Help panel before with useful hints, it’d help me a lot to refresh my mind about some mechanics. Why taking it away? Just because that bug with an achievement couldn’t be fixed? Remove the achievement instead.

The point is, give the player the right of choice! With the new changes the game’s deciding for us, either newcomers or veterans. What hooked me in this game was the ability of make choices in the PS mainly. But being forced to go through things that I could already know or was too obvious that I wouldn’t need a tutorial takes away the whole fun.

That’s it, with this system things are being forced on us. Let’s choice when to do PS or map completion. “oh but it’s higher level than your.” Well, let us take the risk, no challenge no risk. Talking about PS… wth was wrong with the previous sequence? Why messing up with the logic? No comments about that, others has already given my point. Leveling was easier between story steps, now it’s a boring task.

Ok, I wrote a lot. I may have repeated what others have said but that’s some of my thoughts about NPE. Therefore, I’d suggest to revert these changes and go back to planing table. The idea and intention behind it is great, but the system needs to be reworked from scratch, sadly enough. (I really hope there are changes coming and not mends instead…)

Especially us Mesmers helping and porting players and what not, we get suppressed a lot. As for others trying to help I do not know if they are getting suppressed or not as much as we are. There has to be a fix for this other than logging out and back in.

That reminds me of a funny and annoying situation I was in a while back. I was helping players in a JP with portals and every time someone would thank me I would reply with “np” or just “: )” but at a moment I got suppressed by posting “: )”. Yup, a merely “: )” got me suppressed lol (it would be comical if it was not tragic, or is it the opposite?) A few minutes before that I got suppressed by posting “np” lol

Also, I get constantly suppressed when helping people with daily events. Several chat links in a row seems to trigger suppression, despite they being different links. Usually people asks for events and they I would link different WPs or PoIs but after a few I get suppressed.

I use Content Guide to find and pinpoint events to people, then usually I link events far from when I am. Due suppression, end up by having move at the event location and putting up a Commander or Mentor tag to tag it for people, that takes a while and I can even not arrive in time.

Firstly, welcome to Guild Wars 2 and glad to hear you are enjoying the game. But honestly, have you learned about how the old system was, either by this thread, wiki or something? I’m just curious to know what a real new player’s opinion would be if they see both systems.

I think usually for a new player the system doesn’t seem that bad. After all, even the worst part of this game seems to be better than other games out there in some aspects. Also, could you tell what you liked in the new system? Just curious about new players opinions.

You know what?

I’m just sick of this kitten in games, lately.

[sip]

I’m sick of being expected to beg for things we had previously and that were removed for no good reason and to the detriment of the game, as a whole.

It’s NOT OK and it is also not the job of people like me to have to try to make developers see sense, when they appear to have lost the plot entirely.

This is not why we play games.

I feel your pain and I totally agree… devs everywhere from every game or software, not this game only, seems to be messing up stuff and making things non-sense and complicated instead “progressing” or “evolving” and calling “dumb features” as “modern way”. It’s a trend nowadays unfortunately… (no offense directed to anyone btw)

It’s been theorized Anet is working on big projects behind the scenes. People are screaming out for content.

Should they drop every other project to get this fixed in four months?

And some of it was fixed right away. It was improved immediately. How come you don’t mention that?
[..]
Changes were made. Why do people ignore that? Why do people say it reflects badly on Anet when they did make changes fairly quickly.

I would very much prefer things to be fixed and working properly than very shinny new content. I’m more up for 5 very well working features than 50 brand new contents.

Also, yes the fixes has been noted but they are just a minor “mending” for a big faulty system. The changes promised are big ones but the ones delivered so far has just been minor ones that shouldn’t be there since beginning. The “fixes” done were these, just fix for things not supposed to happen. What ppl want is changes to the way it was designed, to what they intended to have but was a fail. Both “fixes”, the delivered so far and the expected ones, aren’t the same thing.

Will you ever fix it ?

If people are being overwhelmed by the mechanics, you try to inform them better, not screw over parts of the game that were just fine and then top it with a compass and a dodging tutorial.

This.

(Seriously, they think we don’t know how to use dodge?)

Well, at times it feels like some ppl doesn’t know, given how many players die several times in events with huge AoE effects clearly warning them to dodge. But well, it can be due several reasons too.. what we could say…

You aren’t paying more because the prepurchase tiers include the core game. The core game is included as a Free Bonus. I repeat: FREE BONUS. As was officially stated above, since many of you either failed to read it or failed to comprehend it.

Whether the tiers include the base game or not will not alter the prices.

That’s the thing. New players are going to get expansion for $50 and the core game “for free”. Veteran players had to pay for the core game and are going to pay the exact same value for the expansion. New players are getting core game as bonus, veterans aren’t getting any bonus if getting the basic version.

I want to be able to play my characters, not grind to get to a level that I can. I really cannot emphasize enough how much of a selling point this was to me, when I bought the game.

You can say it only effects the first twenty levels until you’re blue in the face, but it’s effected way more than that, for me.

+10 to this. I can’t get why we have to level up as fast as we can… I enjoyed my leveling process pre-NPE.

Power creep? I must be missing something. How does the New Player Experience cause level 80s to be stronger?

I don’t think they meant exactly that 80s are too strong or something, but about giving it in chunks that makes you feel “a lot stronger” than 1 level below would be.

I also noticed that there no longer is a “how many vistas, WP’s SP, etc” completed on the world map. When I hit for the map to come up .. that is missing. When I mouse over a name of an area, it no longer has a mouse popup saying how much of the area has been completed. I found this VERY useful. When did this disappear?

It’s one of the “features” related to NPE. You aren’t supposed to see your progress for world completion before you reach certain level. Knowing how many vistas, waypoints, etc you have found, or even wth is a skill point is too overwhelming for new players… [sarcasm self-test completed] :P

I would not want to see any kind of forced tutorial even with the first character.
Optional is the key word. Completely avoidable.

Well, with NPE now the whole leveling process feels like a forced tutorial where you can do things only when the game “thinks” you are able to do.

Isn’t it rather presumptuous to think so low of players? That’s like saying we should hide some road signs from new drivers…

Why not add toggles for various map symbols? I’m a veteran of many decades, and I’d love to turn on and off various map symbols.

People who struggle with too many icons on a map as large as the starter zones need more than NPE. They need special education.

The entire NPE is ridiculous. All the players know it, and I am sure deep in your hearts, most if not all of the staff know it too.

Go ahead, take a survey in the offices. See how many tick yes to the “Are there too many icons” box.

Yay, dumb NPE strikes again… Yeah, it seems some devs or someone in staff can’t see these reasons… I still can’t understand how those icons were overwhelming… contrariwise, they can be an incentive to exploring. I NEVER got overwhelmed by those at my first char and I wasn’t a MMO veteran.

2. Instead of level gating literally everything, why not just take a more reasonable route? Instead of the level gating you could simply learn things from ingame activities/tutorials. Specific ingame activities that are heavily incentivized would be a lot nicer than forcing everyone to spam the first few skills of a weapon over and over again.

Gw2 was about freedom to “play your way”. It needs to get back to what made it successful before it’s too late.

I couldn’t agree more… on past months (maybe more than a year) the most of the changes seems to be against that. I believe since that September Feature Pack (yeah I look mainly at you NPE…) things began to slowly go to the opposite direction.

The problem in games, ATM, is this trend to arbitrarily remove stuff, that people have got used to having and go back to a more primitive, punitive system.

It’s just, basic, human psychology that we expect things to be added to and for things to be made better, over time.

Not for things to be removed and made worse, again.

Even if we were satisfied with the older thing(s), at the time, as we had never experienced the improvements.

That’s not to say that you can’t, say, carefully streamline things, that were clumsily designed in the first place and/or have become overbloated over time.

Like, for example, 10 years worth of added (and never pruned) abilities, or only-one-right-answer, red herring-filled, talent trees.

But, to just remove things at random, especially good things and drive people back into the dark ages of a game (or of gaming, in general) is never going to be popular with the average person.

As human nature is to gradually evolve, not to devolve.

NPE? :P I also can’t agree more with the above. And you know what? It’s a trend not around games only, I have seen several software companies out there doing the same by locking out features previously available saying it was for “streamline’s sake”.

I’ve come to realize that I hate the pop-up windows. Not just the NPE leveling windows, but all of them by association. There are too many and why do I have to click ‘accept’ on a screen when I earn a bouncy chest if there is no choice for me to make? It seems pointless and they just become an obstacle for me.

I get it when there is a choice to be made, sure, fine. Heart rewards? OK, but they are so big and annoying, but OK. Silverwastes? yeah yeah, I got a shovel and crests. Again. It just gets annoying.

btw – is there a keyboard shortcut I don’t know about to shut down these windows without clicking?

Good point. Some of those popup windows are useless and obtrusive. What’s the point of having a popup showing you got 1 item with only Accept? Can you even not accept it? No, if you ignore it a chest will keep blinking in the corner asking you to accept it or accept it. Oh some of them can’t even be ignored though (e.g. Silverwastes event completion). Why not giving those as normal loot (directly in the inventory) and just showing a text telling you that you got a reward? Also doesn’t the right side of screen show you the items you got, clearly notable? If no choices to make then no reasons for a popup with just an accept.

Ok you could say: what if inventory is full and I can’t get the items yet? Well then make it as a chest like now but when clicking it the items go directly to inventory, if it’s full then the chest stays on the screen.

And afaik there’s no shortcut to accept it, but you can hit Esc to close some of them (chest will stay in screen if you do so).

Why not let people join whatever type of guild they want?

Well, since NPE and the big Feature Packs the signal was already coming… They have changed the ideology from “play as you wish” to “play as we think you should play” >.> Just check several changes done since that Feature Pack, NPE is the clearer example.

Ok, back on topic…

Ok guys, stop! Enough. I really would hate to see this thread trashed out due derailing and flaming posts... Read the title again: "NPE Feedback", focus on that...

Anyway...

The way to solve the problems that caused this change (iirc, that new players were overwhelmed) would be better tutorials or more helpful NPCs and early-character goals that lead to tutorials. While such things have been implemented, sort of (the dodgeroll trainers, the hint popups), the addition of locking things off to certain levels (often absurdly high) is ridiculous.

Instead of, say, only revealing vistas at a certain level, perhaps have a hint popup when a new player mouses over a vista on the map. Or include a new vista that’s very easy to get to in a new player area, and make a hint pop up once the player views it. Et cetera. Don’t lock it off, because new players will catch on that things are being restricted, and they will feel insulted.

This! Teach people by showing them things and how to learn more about them instead hiding or locking out stuff.

The change I hate the most is weapon skills. Really? You don’t think players can handle five skills they get through gradual use of a weapon? That counts as overwhelming, too?

I really, REALLY liked how weapon skills worked before. Having to unlock each progressive skill through use made me get used to the weapon and its skills’ effects as I unlocked each and every one. Then I would switch to a new weapon, unlock those skills, and in the end figure out which one I liked best, because I had adequate time to use every weapon.

With this new system, skills are unlocked instantly. There’s no telling if a new player actually bothered to get all their other weapons by the time a new skill unlocks (and they probably haven’t). Say a player only changes weapons out once they’ve unlocked all five skills. Suddenly--they have all five skills on this new weapon! And no time to get used to them gradually. Isn’t that the "overwhelming" you guys were trying to avoid in the first place...? It makes no sense to me.

Neither to me, although it seems some people liked it *shrugs*.

Anyway, here is a suggestion: why not merging both systems? What about having skills unlocked by use as before but whenever you unlock certain skill for certain weapon it would unlock it for that weapon for all characters? I’m not sure if the skills from the same weapon are the same for different professions (like greatsword #1 for a mesmer is the same for a ranger).

Let me give an example: Let’s say I play a mesmer and just got a new Scepter, I would go and fight to unlock its skills gradually as before. But then, when I unlock its skill #2 it would unlock such skill for all Scepters for all characters (and for that profession in case they are different). The thing is, the unlocking is based on the skill itself instead on levels. Tell me if something is fail with this idea, I don’t know all professions yet.

Yes, it’s noted to be even worse on Lion’s Arch (where I’m even used to have environment render issues). At times even the skill bar and chat background loads mins later I logged on.

I’ve now also found that even if I’ve been playing for hours, the first time I visit the mystic forge during the session the mystic forge UI also takes about 1 full minute to load.

Yes, it takes long to load each very first time you use one of the UI. E.g,: if you would use Trading Post or even Guild panel hours after you logged on, the first time you get on these windows they would appear with no background. I have seen it happen even with individual inventory items. Yesterday I bought an item from Laurel merchant and its icon took about 1 min to appear, even though my inventory and whole UI already was fully loaded.

  • Culling, when there are too many nearby players, to reduce the animations the game needs to display.

Yup, but if I recall right usually culling will hide minis for that reason but not uncheck that box. Currently, the mini won’t come back when switching maps (that should cancel the culling).

Guild Party Map Icon Possible Bug/Oversight

Yeah I noticed it too. I was in party with a friend and the dot was blue. They swapped chars and then their dot became yellow. It wouldn’t matter if I relog, it would always show as yellow (I crashed several times and when I came back it was the same way). I even took a screenshoot to report it on forums (and to show to my friend as my dot was still blue for them).

I also want to point out that it wasn’t a good change (if intended), that yellow dot is harder to spot than the blue one. Not to mention the known fact that it doesn’t show up when out of minimap range.

I haven’t had any chances to try the beta but from what I know you won’t be able to access it after it’s over, even any chars created for it and any data related to it is usually wiped out.

Swiftness Duration Stack Bug?

Mesmer’s Temporal Curtain Swiftness stacking issue is a bug.

In fact, not a bug but a intended feature “badly” implemented. From what I heard it was done due abuses with it during early days, but yes they forget to fix the tooltip and stuff to show its actual behavior. As you said, people has been complaining about it for a long time now.

I just want my natural weapon skill unlocking again. That change alone was heartbreaking.

Highlight is mine, isn’t it more clear about how it was before?

No, I would say there is no difference between how “clear” either were. You play the game, and you suddenly get skills added to your bar either way. Just one you got from using your weapon, which is very natural and the other you get them at set levels that limit your build until you get there. If you wanted more skills with the previous system, you went and practiced with the weapon. If you want more skill now, tough luck just keep leveling.

I won’t say that the system takes longer, or is more grindy when it comes to weapon skills necessarily. But now its just the typical you leveled, here is a new skill that almost every single MMO I played has. The natural unlocking at the beginning made the game feel new and exciting and different, even if it wasn’t actually that different at all. That was the beauty of the system.

Personally, that made me feel more like I was progressing a character than the cheesy DING! of me crossing another level off my checklist ever did.

I may have not worded well there. I wasn’t saying toward you or something, I just used your quote to highlight a thing: “natural”. Yes, the old system was more “natural” than now. Currently it feels like you “earn” the right to use skills instead “learning” how to use skills. My thoughts about it are very same as yours. My question there was more like rhetoric, hehe.

The NPE isn’t perfect., but it’s not as bad as people make out either.

Yes, I agree it’s not perfect. But also it’s not so good as you make out either.

Will you ever fix it ?

It’s funny cus their whole new thing that anet is trying to push out is dynamic events. How can they do that if a large chunk of current events that are already in game either never start or bug in the middle.

Good point… :S A lot of dumb and unnecessary changes were made while things already in game are still broken for ages…

As already mentioned, it’s not a good thing to post screenshots of exploits or even report them here. The proper way is to report them through the email provided.

Anyhow, if you want to know how to upload more than one screenshot, it’s easy. After attaching the first pic, just click Preview instead Reply. It will upload the pic but you will be back to editor and the Attachment field will be available again. Just repeat the process for each additional pic and when you are done, just click Reply.

Why does swiftness exist?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: shadow.6174

shadow.6174

  • Every class in this game has already either had permanent swiftness since launch or complained enough to get it by now. It’s effortless to maintain.

Excuse me? No, have you even played mesmer? From what I see mesmer is one of the (if not the one) slowest class in the game and has very few sources of swiftness, then no, not all classes has permanent swiftness and the options available are too few and require some trade-off (like replacing sigils or traits) to get some more swiftness.

  • If someone really wants to “move” quickly for whatever reason, that person will use a scripted movement ability or a teleport. Not only are those re-positioning abilities not actually real movement (because the server is doing the vast majority of the work for the player in that case), but it also calls into question the point of swiftness at all if it’s only viable gameplay purpose is making a player move just slightly faster from non-combat point A to non-combat point B.

And if I read it right, any method to move through scripted or automated ways would be looked as exploit then I don’t get this point.

Client crash during Karka Queen fight

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

For twice my client just froze at the second part of Karka (when it regenerates health), it becomes unresponsive but no crash, like it dropped to 1 FPS or less. When it happens I can still hear sounds but I can’t interact at all. Luckily I didn’t crash so I didn’t lose the credit for the fight. In these two times the game froze at the same part (mentioned above) what makes me to think they are related, on these two moments the fight happened at different places.

I usually play with low settings during these fights and I don’t think it’s related to the amount of people there. I have done even more crowded fights without crashes and such (even though had lag).

I believe it has something to do with Karka’s model. On these two moments the client froze so soon the Karka was fully rendered on my screen.
