After going frame by frame with the video, it appears that the assault on DR is not from Queensdale but from an area we haven’t explored yet. It looks to be directly north of CM judging by the terrain, angle of the mountains facing DR and the fact that centaurs are charging in, in one shot. Since centaur homeland is in Harathi and it’s directly next to that space above CM…. well I think that’s a pretty good chance it is. The new area may even extend all the way around DR to the north and west. So it seems at least a small part of the Woodland Cascade is being explored.

Its the area that Lake Doric was. Notice the shot at 0:52 of the bloodstone catapult firing. The glass dome of the central plaza is visable as well as the royal palace to the right of it and kormir high road the the left.

Surrender and serve me in life, or die and slave for me in death.

Hooray

I was really worried that this release would be coming out towards the latter half of the month. ANet has done really well with hitting their 2-month cadence for Living Story releases so this is a slight deviation, but I am glad it’s only two weeks off course rather than more. Really looking forward to the release, and I hope the balance patch and skirmish rewards are en route as well!

Will the Charr be cool with it though? Humans rebuilding/expanding ebonhawke right next to their territory?

If DR does get a makeover, I want a Canthan District.

That’s literally the only reason to rebuild DR. But we can build that onto Ebonhawke instead, when we expand the city to fit all the refugees.

Edit: Also to add, it is NOT unprecedented for a playable races’ home city to be destroyed and never rebuilt. The Ascalonians lost their home city to the Charr.

I’m sorry but that’s a very flawed example.
The Ascalonians lost their home city in the transition from Gw1 to Gw2. Throughout the running of GW1, the ascalonians retained control of Ascalon, they lost the city in between the two games. So unless Anet is going to release Gw3 after this episode, it’s not the same.

But yes Ascalon did get destroyed and wasn’t rebuilt, but that was in a completely different game. Gw1 was a CORPG, it was basically a singleplayer game with an interactive lobby. Also it happened in the intro of the game, it wasn’t something that happened after Ascalon was already in-game for years.

EDIT: Also, in gw1 Ascalon was not the main capital city for human players (basically all players). It was Lions Arch.

Even if it hasn’t been done before, they could do it (and I personally would love it.) Humans could start out in refugee camps outside of DR or in the ruins of DR. We have had refugees in GW2 before.

I agree that would be pretty cool.
Just not forever.

If it is then I’m definitely going to request a refund for the Royal Terrace Pass.

They would simply relocate the Royal Terrace just as they relocated all of the services of Lion’s Arch to Vigil Keep and gave us the Air Ship. The Royal Terrace could be moved to that walled town in South Queensdale or somewhere else suitable.

LA didn’t have an area that you needed to pay gems for. And LA was restored eventually, it was changed yes, but it wasn’t gone forever.
And simply relocating it won’t be enough. I could’ve gotten the airship pass, or the Lava Lounge, or even Noble’s Folly. But no, I got the Royal Terrace Pass because I like that area, I like how it looks and the fact it’s located in a beautiful capital city.
When anet changes the location it’s not longer the product I paid for.

Please for the love of sanity, destroy DR but DO NOT make us go through another city being rebuilt. Leave it destroyed!

You want one of the playable races without a capital city?
That is insane.

Even if it’s getting destroyed (there’s no guarantee of that, DR has been attacked before)
of course they’ll rebuild it. And they should, the devs can’t leave one race without a capital city, it wouldn’t make sense.

Not insane at all.
That’s how war works.

Never rebuilding what you lost, even when you win, is how war works?
Even if that was true (it isn’t) this isn’t real life. It’s a game.

Every race currently has a capital city, and it should stay that way.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against DR getting destroyed (even though I doubt it will happen). I’m just against never rebuilding it, that would be ridiculous.

When the frogloks kicked the trolls out of Grobb in EQ new troll players had to start in the Foreign Quarter of the Dark Elf city. When the trolls got it back new player frogloks had to start in a refugee camp in Rathe Mountains. That whole storyline took several years to play out and throughout there was always at least one playable race with no starting city of its own. Just saying there is precedent in the genre if not in this particular franchise…

I don’t see how something that happened in a different game has any bearing on what might happen in GW2. I mean I get what you are saying, it happened before in a game of the same genre, but EQ has a vastly different way of releasing new content and story. EQ is pumping out 29.99 to 39.99 dollar expansions like crazy, the kind of development I wish gw2 had.

Also this is a Living World S3 plot, which I doubt will take years to play out. The main plot of Guild Wars 2 is fighting the Elder Dragons, fighting White Mantle is a side plot. A very spectacular one I admit, but a side plot nonetheless.

Again I’m fine with it being destroyed, just not the “never rebuild it” part.

War destroys things, many times beyond repair.

Unless the entire land of Kryta gets sucked into a black hole, I doubt it will be damaged beyond repair.

Cities have been nuked and completely vaporized in our world, they were rebuild. Dozens of cities in europe were reduced to rubble in World War 2, they were all rebuild. I’m sure Kryta can do the same.

I’m quite curious how much the sneaky devs are giggling at us right now for how they so neatly pulled the wool over our eyes with their well timed comment about the old Lake Doric map on reddit.
Would pay for being at their office and hearing their comments to eachother.

And yet the attack is clearly coming from the exact same area where Lake Doric is (was?) located. Though the lake is probably being drained because we see a large dam being destroyed in the trailer.

So even if Anet said that we won’t go to Lake Doric (I have seen no such statement) they didn’t technically lie. If the white mantle blow up the dam and drain the lake, there technically isn’t a lake anymore.

I believe there was a post from a dev on reddit that stated we were not going to get the lake Doric map.

Where that post is?….idk

http://imgur.com/0CbSZmd

Here’s that post, with the important line marked.

Note how they aren’t saying “Lake Doric” isn’t coming, but how -that map- isn’t.

Indeed, all they said that the map we saw in the leaked pictures is not the map we get in Episode 4. Because it’s a very old and scrapped map.

They never said “We are not going to lake doric”.
We just aren’t getting the old and scrapped version we saw before.

I wonder where the new map will be located. Judging from the screenshots it lies in or at least near Kryta. Maybe we’ll finally be able to go to Lake Doric

They already said there will be no Lake Doric map.

So even if Anet said that we won’t go to Lake Doric (I have seen no such statement) they didn’t technically lie. If the white mantle blow up the dam and drain the lake, there technically isn’t a lake anymore. The area will be drastically changed and probably have another name altogether, but it will still be in the same location that originally was Lake Doric.

Finally got to watch the trailer…

…uhm. So DR’s getting trebbed with giant bloodstone crystals. That not reminiscent of anything, now is it? Not at aaaaaallll….. /sarcasm

Time to whoop some White Mantle rump.

Those crystals from gw1 were searing cauldron crystals. Completely different things. But since theyre used for bombardment it might as well be the same thing

I’m aware. I did play GW1 for 9 years. That’s why I used the term “reminiscent.” As it seems very similar to what we have seen before. Regardless of what’s actually launching the things (or what they are made out of. Do we know what the searing crystals were made out of? I don’t recall).

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

As the leader of a large active guild, I do not miss the influence system at all. Yes, they took some steps backwards with HOT and their support for guilds has been lacking lately (no new guild missions in almost 4 years), but the one thing they did get right was the guild rep and contributions system with HOT. Contribution to a guild is now much more optional and proactive (with scribing and the event token vendor).

I don’t miss influence for the reason i don’t have to ask people to rep all the time although I think I have enough of guild missions, I litterally can’t bear it anymore. When guild halls were announced and they said there was a quest to claim it with your entire guild i was under the impression that on a weekly basis we also had to defend the guild halls from mordrem invasion and that we could launch the invasion as a guild mission which would be more fun than the actual guild missions. Instead we have huge guild halls that are empty and deserted all the time and old guild missions that nobody in my guild care to do it any longer

They took influence away to kill off micro guilds. A shame imo.

Not sure I agree. There were a lot of complaints about having to rep. It seems like influence was at odds with the multi-guild system, so they changed it. I think the micro-guild affect was a side affect. More like collateral damage, than something specifically intended.

I’m not sure how anyone can definitively say why they did it unless they were there when the decision to do it was made.

Basing my conclusions based off other things GW2 does, it does seem like they removed it to kill off personal guilds so people couldn’t use it as additional storage.

They have a 10 mail limit for mail from players so people can’t use it as additional storage.

They only have an option for take all in the auction house presumably for the same reason. It’s not difficult to add an option to take items individually, as other games do.

Personal guilds allowed for a lot of extra free storage, which goes against ANet’s goal, to get people to use the gem store to buy additional storage.

Talk about confirmation bias. People have complained about many things that Anet has changed. Surely there were easier ways to get rid of the personal banking thing than changing influence to something else.

They could have simply, if they wanted, made the minimum guild size 10.

Because everyone who had personal banks before still has them. The logic doesn’t really hold up.

The downside to influence is the pressure of guilds to get people to rep. I’m happier now because it doesn’t matter if people rep. I never wanted to care about guild rep and I never had a rep policy but there were times when fewer people were repping than not repping and it could be frustrating.

If you’re going to have a multi-guild system, why make the guidls compete for rep?

Players need to learn what "DPS" means

Dawnbreaker, I suggest you to just look at some article talking abut “gaming term”. I a few second on internet I could find a few thread that explain that gaming term evolve constantly and what could stand litterally like “DPS” can quickly end with a very different meaning.

The language of gaming is constantly mutating. For instance, “lag” used to refer to delays in client/server communication, but lately we’ve heard it used as if it’s synonymous with “low framerate.” Baffling. To help clear some things up, we’ve asked regular PC Gamer writer and all-round lexical savant Richard Cobbett to create a brief glossary of PC gaming’s most important terms and their modern definitions (with a few additions of our own).

You can find the full article and a list of gaming term here :
http://www.pcgamer.com/pc-gaming-terms-and-their-true-meanings/

Asking for the gaming community to simply come back to the litteral meaning of all the actual gaming term is… well… litterally impossible. Most people adapt themself to it and I suggest you to do the same. It will be easier for you and for the peoples/players that will play with you. It’s easier to change 1 person than a thousand (especially when this thousand is already used to the fact that 1 term may have more than 1 meaning)

No core profession should be balanced around an optional elite specialization.
