Why do most players not respond to whispers?

I think it’s rude to go around whispering invites to random people. Guilds advertise in Map chat all the time, if I wanted to be in your guild I would have responded to the message. I don’t feel special because you sent me a personal message, because I know that you’re doing it to anyone you see who doesn’t have a guild tag.

In fact I created my own guild (only members are myself and my wife) in part because people kept inviting me to their guilds and it was distracting to get whispers everywhere I went. As an added bonus we have a shared bank space, but the original reason was because that whispering was so annoying.

As someone who isn’t in a guild, I can say I stopped responding after the 30th query about it…it gets annoying when just because you aren’t in a guild dozens of people a day feel the need to whisper or send random invites. It’s like door to door sales people or telemarketers…it gets annoying and something to ignore very quickly.

You’re witnessing selection bias!

People who are enjoying themselves in-game are likely to stay in-game and help others enjoy themselves too.

People who are enjoying themselves so little that they exit the game are likely to come to the forums to voice their dissatisfaction with whatever is bugging them.

Aside; my server’s been really great so far this month in-game too. It’s been a blast

ANet needs to put pasties in the gem shop for the female Asura and the Charr, as well as for the males wearing this armor. Only this way can the game be saved.

I want small flower pasties for my Sylvari

You do know what flowers are right? I always blush when I go past a flower shop. Can’t believe how brazen and disgusting some people can be. I mean right there out in the open!

My female Sylvari has a giant flower now on her shoulder with pollen floating around her and bees flying around pollinating it.

I can only describe it as….. XXX.

Forget the Asura nipples. What was ANet thinking to allow blatant plant sex in the game?

I am EXTREMELY offended by this.

GW1 monsters vs GW2 monsters

The problem is, Guild Wars 1 was instanced and Guild Wars 2 is open world. So the more interested stuff has to be in dungeons. You can’t have mixed mobs respawning in the open world, no matter what players want, because far more players will be annoyed by it than players who want it.

Take a look at the krait. Anet made the krait harder and afterwards people complained. Look at AC. Anet made the dungeon harder and people stopped running it.

In an instanced game, you could make stuff hard, because first of all, no one was ever alone. You had henchmen with you and later heroes. And so you always fought in a group against groups.

You can’t really give everyone five or six henchmen in the open world, because if you do, you could end up with 12 guys together and you have an army of sixty. It wouldn’t work. You can’t have different professions healing each other in the open world, because one guy might not be able to do much against that, and how is that fair to him. Maybe someone plays at 3 am and there’s no one around. You were never alone in Guild Wars 1.

Guild Wars 1, in the later years, was far easier than Guild Wars 2 is now. It was complete yawn mode. People don’t remember, but things usually appeared in the same place. You pretty much knew exactly there this group was going to be and pretty much knew exactly how to tackle it.

Sure there were challenging runs in Guild Wars 1 (like the Droks run). Except it’s not challenging at all with a full party once you know it and have the right build. It’s only fun/challenging with a smaller party. You’ve changed the rules of the game.

So do the same thing here. Test yourself. Take off half your armor and then try the Cursed Shore. Try to solo a veteran karka. Try to run the Grawl tunnel in Frostgorge.

The last many years of Guild Wars 1, the game was so easy as to be unplayable. Those who fondly remember the Droks run, or the hydras in the crystal desert, are remembering a point in time.

Very often there are harder creatures and groups in dungeons in this game…but people don’t want to run the hard paths. They’d much rather repeat CoF path 1.

Worth it?

Actually stock price is never a decent indicator of profit. It’s an indicator of confidence in the company and many factors other than profit can affect that.

(Reposted from a thread in the General section.)

Ever been in a convenience store and watched someone who, frankly, looks like their money would be better spent on the basic necessities rather than the state lottery buy scratch ticket after scratch ticket after scratch ticket?

I get the same sort of vaguely sick feeling every time I hear people throw money at these keys.

If people stopped doing it, maybe things would change, but as it stands right now it seems like every time they come out with a new set of chests with a “rare chance for something cool!” people can’t get their credit cards out of their wallets fast enough despite months worth of evidence showing that the odds of actually getting something are vastly skewed again them.

And lest you think this an anti-cash shop rant, I’d be more than happy to pay $10 for an outfit or a cool weapon skin I couldn’t otherwise get. But to gamble for it? No way.

(Well, ok, maybe not “more than happy to”, but certainly willing to.)

Post edited and recreated for mod approval:

So I saw the post with descriptions of all the new items including RNG chests
Can we please not have these? I would rather not see the items in the game at all than have them through wallet grabbing luck chests. Seriously. We have had enough RNG for a while. Make it stop. Even if you go through with it, make sure everything is tradeable. That’s the least you can do to the people spending gems on it.
No one likes your lucky chests. We like fixed prices or obtainability through play.

The exact description:

Get packed for the return to Southsun Cove. An assortment of souvenirs from the Southsun islands. This chest contains Southsun crafting materials and a chance to get a wide variety of items such as shoulder skins, new boosts and conveniences, and a rare chance to get new weapon skins and mini pets.

No one wants chances or rare chances in something we buy with our real life cash. If you must, make the items expensive, but let us buy the items. You know you will have people complaining after “OMG having openened 100 chests, no mini!!1!” anyway.

yeah, you’ll get scaled up to level 80 for the duration of the story.

What is the point of leveling a toon to 80 in this game than ? if you’ll get upleveled to 80 anyway !!!

A true level 80 performs multiple times better than an upscaled. Gear, traits and experience.

To make a nemesis that everyone in the game hates just do the following:

Step 1: create a cut scene with said nemesis.
Step 2: In said cut scene have said nemesis kill 1 baby quaggan
Step 3: After killing said baby quaggan, have the nemesis exclaim: “I Balance the classes in GW2”

Step 4: Watch as the player base attempts to disembowel the nemesis and make continuous death threats against her.

F&F Rewards, Why RNG?

in Flame and Frost

Posted by: Arya.9034

Arya.9034

MMOs have to make money. Either you pay monthly or you deal with little money making schemes. RNG items will garner more profit by increasing the chances that those that did not get them will buy gems in order to convert them to gold and buy the item.

If that was the case then why would Anet not just sell the jetpack or any other reward in the gem store like Braham and Rox’s weapon skins. Seems an awfully roundabout way of getting players to buy gems: farm dungeon chest > buy gems > convert to gold > buy off TP at a price not set by Anet, but the players rich enough to be able to flip them.

F&F Rewards, Why RNG?

in Flame and Frost

Posted by: Arya.9034

Arya.9034

Wondering why the F&F rewards came in the form of RNG drops as opposed to say the Southshore event (amulet, 20slot bag), Mad King Jumping Puzzle (exotic boots), Super Adventure Box (weapon skins) which rewarded players for completing the content and not just purely RNG.

With Fractals and Guild missions you are rewarded tokens for the amount of effort put in, and yes you might get lucky and receive ascended items and weapons skins too, but that’s seen more as a bonus imo.

However, with F&F Anet has changed tack and made the jetpack, mini and tonic (completely cosmetic) only obtainable via RNG. Will this be the new route Anet takes for future content rewards? (Not to mention the whole fused skins debate)

Personally I would have preferred these items rewarded on the effort put in by the player. Whether it be a token style system such as SAB or even like the early on F&F rewards which were account bound and mailed to you upon completion of certain achievements, titles, etc.

Would be interesting what everyone else thinks about this issue. Should content rewards be based entirely on RNG?

Edit: 16 jetpacks, 15 minis on TP as of right now…

GW2 expansion - 1Q Ncsoft Conference Call [merged]

Translated out of corporate speak that reads “we plan to do an expansion pack at some point but currently haven’t started but you’ll give me kitten if I say that so ill just tell you we have started and give a load of vague reasons for not having a scheduled release”.

I read it to say “we’re going to release an expansion when it’s in our best financial interest to do so.”

Edit: I personally take the fact that they aren’t rushing an expansion out the door asap as a good sign that the game is doing well.
