Almost cried when i went into Glint’s lair and saw my old friend Ogden. Even the fight inside the lair really feels like Gw1. Thanks Anet for makin me (veteran GW1) experience Gw1 inside GW2 once again!
My favorite reference from ArenaNet is the Black beast of ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH from GW1,amazing boss name.
I just loved when you talked to the NPCs Priory members at the basement, and some of them were whispering and others were shouting, rest of them were like ’’SHHHH!!’’ hahaha, it was so funny.
I just LOVE the Priory basement!!!!!!! I wish we could go down there without having replay the story again.
Abbadon’s statue. <3
Speaking of easter eggs….. did anyone else find the ark of the covenant in the priory basement?
lolololol
Indiana Jones reference.
GW1 reference too: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Ancient_Weapon
Indiana Jones and Guild Wars in the same thread?
<3 !
Isn’t there also an Indiana Jones reference in the volcano fractal? (the skeleton with the fedora)
Gotta be! Thanks for another smile.

I really wish the library were it’s own instance instead of having to replay the story. I want to be able to just go in and browse, instead of having to listen to all that chatter again, and again, and again…
I’ve always liked that Cantha music. I think it’s Eternal Grove (?) I’m not sure.

Absolutely agreed. I’ve been helping some guildies go through it for the first time; we just had to stop due to the hour but we are about to go to the priory and I am eager to hear their first impression reactions.
I also would not change anything except one tiny detail (which might have been addressed somewhere in all the dialogue): why isn’t anyone going omg Pale Tree, she’s hurting. Sylvari RPers want to know how the Dream is feeling right now
There is actually pretty good dialogue with Traehern if you are Sylvari. I read it on the wiki, haven’t gotten the chance to play it on my own yet.
Also some random sylvari at pact base say how they feel wrong being here since its one less body between the mother tree and the dragon.
“The Problem” is that the most efficient team to run any dungeon is always pure glass cannon setups.
As it should happen.
Given the game’s focus on build variety and teamwork, this seems out of place. The most efficient group should be a mix of gear stats and builds.
Where do you get that?
Why should “all glass cannon” be the most efficient way to run every dungeon?
Where did I get that the game is focused on build variety and teamwork? Perhaps from ANet’s actions. A lot of their balance changes have been with the explicit intent of “improving build variety”. The fact they nerfed crit damage also suggests that “all glass cannon all the time” is not how they want the game to function (plus the fact they explicitly said it was the first step to reduce the dominance of glass cannon in PvE).
Teamwork has always been a very heavily stated goal in the game. If you’re questioning where I got that, I have to wonder if you actually know anything about the game.
@Tim: yeah, I noticed the lack of Retaliation in Silverwastes. A shame, because that really is a mechanic that would force a meta change for efficiency. Current speedrun groups would kill themselves against enemies with Retaliation, so the meta would change to at least bring reliable boonstripping. Mesmers would be popular again. Necros still wouldn’t.

I have to agree with the majority here. Last time I was in a zerker group, a guy nearly busted a blood vessel and came close to rage quitting because we killed a boss 2 seconds slower than the average speed clear. After the dungeon was done, all we got was a “GG” and a poof. That’s the virtual equivalent of wham, bam, “thank you ma’am”. That’s when it really hit me that all the zerker meta is doing is turning a game into work. I’m in retail and it’s the holiday season. I have all the “productivity” I could ever hope for. For that reason, I avoid all “zerker only” listings like the plague.
I prefer to play with a perverted friend of mine whom only has one level 80 and has to be carried through dungeons but has comical stories involving toys that aren’t for kids. I prefer playing with her younger sister whom has little to no emotion yet made a necromancer that wouldn’t look out of place in a My Little Pony episode… and then proceeds to nearly solo dungeons in record time with said necromancer. I prefer to play with roleplayers whom make jokes about the Flame Legion (Stay flaming, hotman!) while snickering about the undertones of Logan and Rytlock’s bromance. I prefer to play with people that occasionally say, “watch this,” and break the game in ways I can’t even imagine.
TL;DR; Yes, I could play with the zerkers, have over 3,000 gold and just about every item I could ever want. Or I could play with everyone else and have fun.
I just join the full berserker groups anyway. Not like they can inspect your gear
Players who are worried about not having zerker gear shouldn’t be.
Despite perceptions to the contrary, groups that don’t care what gear you’re using pop up all the time. And if you don’t see one, make one! A “P1 + P3, 80’s or be experienced” listing will fill up just as quickly. Even the “all welcome!” groups will fill relatively fast. Trust me on this.
Heck, I bring my condi-minion hybrid Necro into dungeons/Fractals on a semi-regular basis, quite possibly the worst spec/build the speedrunners could imagine. Never had any complaints or kicks, and we always finish within a reasonable amount of time. What’s FAR more important is whether you understand what challenges the dungeon/Fractal will throw at you, and that you are a friendly team player.
GW1 did a lot of things that GW2 flubbed on by becoming “more of an MMO”.
The RNG system was one.
The latest “lottery” is just an example of how terrible Anet’s flubbing up on their own.
In all honesty, account binding – or more specifically, binding on acquire – is the source of the flubbing up in the RNG, mind you. In GW1, “customization” existed, but NOTHING ever dropped customized – armor were crafted customized, and you could customize weapons, for a bonus to damage – but that’s all. And that’s how it should have been in GW2, too.
Take away the “bound on acquire” trait of any item that has it, and BAM, RNG system annoyances disappear.
Of course, it means that more people get what they want sooner, but why prevent that? To keep people playing longer? Sure they may, or they may not, but they’ll be increasingly frustrated the longer they play without getting the item they want until they give up, which may include leaving the game with bitterness. Not something you want – because if they leave without bitterness, they may come back.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Upon trying to log in after supper and a hockey game I found that there was another patch to download. I got a chuckle out of the patch notes
“Some improperly placed shadows were removed from terrain.”
So 35 plus files were infected by these shadows! Is this a portent of the future? Only the shadow knows for sure!
Pity the thief that tries to hide in the removed shadows.
If the shadow has been removed what will you shadowstep to when you shadowstep?
What determines if the shadow was placed properly or improperly?
So many questions….
I spent nearly an hour and a half wandering around the priory library. Definitely well done with all the lore points and references. Probably my most enjoyable story instance to date. Yes, a thank you and well done is entirely deserved.
I’m only on “Hidden Arcana” of the story so far (no spoilers) but I just have to say how nostalgic this episode in particular is making me. It is beautifully done, filled with good lore, and really has drawn me in. This is so well done.
Just figure you guys should get thanks when you do stuff so well since I know I’m one of the many that criticizes when things don’t go as hoped.
Thanks for posting this, eleshazar. It’s nice that you took the time to do so — really appreciated.
I agree with you — this Living World episode is amazing!

What I’m supposed to do with 1 gem???
What do you do with 1 cent in change? Isn’t it the same thing?
Wow, they “fixed” this and now everything is on sale? Clever strategy indeed!
No, the team rushed to update the exchange because they knew there was a sale coming and didn’t want to cause disappointment. No strategy involved, just addressing player feedback.

All of the crystal segments were silent for me. I just saw a few scenes of a guy bending down, and one where he got an egg. Then the Detective Duo used exposition to thankfully interpret what I’d been seeing.
I think that the possibility of Glint getting reincarnated through her last egg is there. It looked as if the last egg was given to the Master by someone considerably taller than him, and i assume it is Glint’s child from GW1, “Glimmer”. So, why should a single egg have such an importance? Is Glimmer dead by now? Were there other hatchlings from Glint’s eggs? I think it does not matter much, as this last egg has special importance over all others.
I assume that we will be defending the egg against Mordremoth, and that baby Glint will be given a tasty piece of Elder Dragon to feed upon afterwards, so that she can grow quickly and eventually replace one of the Elder Dragons. Do we have a piece of an Elder Dragon around somewhere by chance? Some nice tail for example.
I touched The Shiny and offended all Skritt…
I laughed a lot harder at this thread than I should have…
I refuse to play any other class other than Mesmer. On that note, I think all thieves should burn and die. I crack open a bottle of wine every time I kill one in PvP.
I know that hotjoin is terrible for competitive play, but if someone kittenes me off in a hot-match or is a really good player, I will relentlessly hunt them down—forgoing my team’s score—until they leave the arena.
I can honestly say that I have supported almost 100% of the decision ANet has made with their game. The very few things that did upset me (gem-conversion scandal) were rectified quickly. As a businessman, I respect their values.
Even though I am a gay man, a Mesmer main, and my fiance is a Necromancer, I absolutely HATE Kasmeer for one sole reason: she cheats. How is she able to just drop a portal wherever she wants, phase retreat sideways (its not a Blink, I’m sure), and drop Time Warp once every 10 seconds is beyond me. Whats worse is that I’ve seen players expect me to do the same thing. -.-
Despite my mini-rant, my Mesmer looks like a genderbent Kasmeer. So much so that my guild thinks she could be my mother/cousin/twin brother.
P.S. – I spend way too much time at the bars in Divinity’s Reach. I may have a problem.

Another one:
- Sometimes I get compliments from people in LA (like “Glorious shoulders looks great, nice character!” or “Nice choice of dyes/armor” “Where did you get that shoulder? it looks great on your character” etc and I just pretend I’m afk because I get embarrassed when I get compliments.
Sorry people! Your opinion is really important for me (and makes me smile) but I’m just too shy to answer/I don’t know how to answer a compliment
Also I’m afraid the conversation gets extended and forces me to pay attention to the game,if I’m standing in LA it is because I’m either checking my storage or inventory,or I’m reading the forums/browsing the web on my second monitor,so,I kinda pay attention to the game still and I know when people PM me,but I just pretend I’m afk for the reason I just said :PA simple “Thanks!” is generally enough. When I compliment somebody’s avatar I feel equally as awkward and embarassed if I don’t get a reply, stuff like “They probably think I’m a creep now for checking out their character” usually floats through my head.
This.
A simple thanks is enough. We’re not expecting you to re-write Hamlet

- And i really, really, really want to see more high heeled shoes in the game, especially for Asura.
Asuran orthopedists say: NO .
2k Hours in this game.
50% of the time I played solo without a guild.
Still not dungeon master.
I complain about the meta anyway and talk about it like I’m knowing everything. Best part is : people take what I say seriously and thank me for my advices.
One legendary : the torch. (booooo this man!)
I wanted a mesmer for jumping puzzle. I created a norn for this job. #wrongchoice
Staff AA? Anti-Aliasing? I’m a newb with GW2 terminologies…
LOL
Auto-Attack as in Necrotic Grasp as in the #1 skill on the staff
On topic – it is frikin amazing! it really is so much more efficient when starving for LF on a condi build
I don’t get how this still hasn’t been fixed, or that atleast someone from Anet gives us a heads up on this matter…
I get why they removed the greatest fear part, they wanted the PS to be every 10 levels. This would have put the greatest fear part at lvl 70 together with forging the pact etc, which would’ve made that PS arch way to crowded (9 steps as opposed to the usual 5/6, though the level 80 arch has 10 steps so could have kept it anyway…). Why couldn’t they make an exception to the rule and split the 70/80 story into 70/75/80? By the time a player reaches level 70 he/she should be familiar enough with the game to not be confused by the sudden change of ‘every 10 levels’ to ‘every 5 levels’. To be fair no one with a normal IQ should ever get confused by such a change, no matter when and where it happens.
What I don’t understand AT ALL is why they flipped the old 72/80 part with the 80 part. Now that part makes no sense whatsoever and confuses both old and new players alike. If we knew Anet’s reasoning behind this we could help find a solution to make it work, but as it stands we don’t so all we can say is ‘revert back to the old sequence’.
Now if Anet were to unflip the current 70/80 arch, split the story into 70/75/80 and readd the greatest fear arch, it would look something like this:
- Level 70: Forging the Pact – Fear 1 – Fear 2 – Fear 3 – Battle of FT – Fear ending
- Level 75: Temple – Looking glass/Close the Eye – Eye Beholds – Starving/Estate – Osuary/Shipment – Further into Orr
- Level 80: Order plan 1 – Plan 2 – Plan 3 – Corruption – Cathedral/Romke – Source
- Victory or Death
6 story steps for each chapter put back in the normal order so everything makes sense and we get to enjoy the greatest fear story again (which I personally consider to be the best chapter in the PS). That’s like the best of both worlds!
I really hope this gets adressed in one way or another, because currently the last part of the PS is in a really sad state.
Reaching level 80 should feel like the beginning of the game. Not the end.
The real story should begin AFTER max level, like in GW1. That was one of the things people STILL love about that game.
I really think that if the only reason they are being silent/not telling us what’s on their collective mind it might be because they don’t know whether putting the story back in order and making multiple level 80 chapters at the end is a good idea.
So far, in this thread at least, I haven’t seen people having a problem with having more level 80 chapters at the end. Especially when the alternative is to leave the story in a confusing mess.
Please please please let us know what’s on your collective mind, and if you’re even aware of the problems we have pointed out here?
